Hello Simon,
I just arrived in Grand Rapids, Michigan last Thursday night. Last week in Monday, I visited the Social Security Administration office to apply for my SSN. However, they told me that I didn’t need to visit, as it’s now automatic — my SSN will be sent to my address within two weeks. My host was not aware of this process. Could you please advise me whether I should just wait or try visiting another office?

What is the point of asking a question if you never read the responses.

Hello,
I am a lucky winner of the American DV lottery. I already had an interview appointment as a single person. I just got married after receiving the appointment. Will this cause any problem at the embassy?
If it is possible how can I handle it.
PS but right now I have no plan to go with madam at interview. I just want to go with genuine evidence that I got married getting interview appointment.
Kindly
April 29, 2025 at 10:12
It is important that you tell the embassy at the interview or by updating your DS260 before the interview. I recommend email the embassy to explain.
Normally, someone marrying would add their spouse to the case, because if you do not include your spouse in the DV process, it will take a long time (years) to bring the spouse through family immigration.
April 29, 2025 at 05:38
Hey Simon!
I hope I don’t bother you. You responded me a few weeks ago via mail, I could use your mailing service for my GN and SSN. I have tried to contact you again last week but haven’t heard from you again. I am not sure if my email went through.
I don’t wanna annoy you in any way, its just that my interview is coming up soon and I would need to have the service details ready.
Looking forward to hearing from you! 🙂

Hello Sir,
I sincerely apologize for the repeated questions.
They were normally displayed from newest to oldest, but now they’ve been shuffled in a confusing way on my page.
Please accept my apology. I don’t usually act like this.
You have been very helpful to me since the day I was selected and finally landed. I truly thank you for that and for all you continue to do for us even after we arrived.
I hope you understand.
Have a great day, Sir.

Hi Simon, thank you for all the help,
i try to look on the numbers and what is the right decision to make, but i really need your advice my Number is AS15XXX should keep my interview in Abu Dhabi or better change it to Amman, thank you.
April 28, 2025 at 18:46
I won’t make the decision for you.
April 28, 2025 at 12:35
Hi Simon!
For higher case number in the EU region (34K), which is expected to become current only in the last month of the Visa Bulletin and is unlikely to be scheduled for a consular interview, even considering the embassy is performing strongly and without backlog, how would you assess the opportunity for Adjustment of Status (AOS)?
If you were in my position and had a valid B1/B2 visa allowing a legal stay of up to six months in US, would you travel to US at the end of June in order to pursue green card via AOS?
April 28, 2025 at 12:41
If I were in that position, I would be in the USA much earlier than the end of June, because entering on a B1 and filing very shortly after can create problems.
April 29, 2025 at 02:27
Hi Brit,
Thanks for all the updates!
Just a follow up question for clarification – I have a B1/B2 Visa – in your opinion, when is a good time to enter the US hoping to adjust status without it as you have just said “creating a problem”? Is it even prudent to do so?
Looking forward to your response
April 29, 2025 at 09:24
In May.
April 29, 2025 at 10:42
Thanks You! 🙂
April 28, 2025 at 11:54
Hi Mr Simon,
My case number is EU252XX What do you think about my case number, and when do you think my turn will come?
April 28, 2025 at 12:40
There are three VBs left. I do NOT think you will be current in the next one, but maybe one of the others.
April 28, 2025 at 05:24
Hi Mr Simon,
I have a question about staying in US in first year of arrival less then 6 months after activation GC, can that postpone becoming citizen after 5 years in the end if someone stay less then 6 months in some of years (and doesn’t have more than 6 months of absence out of US), but in the end has in 5 years out of 60 months has 30 months and more, so more than half?
Where can I check that rule in order to be sure since me and my wife entered and stayed some period in US but some family situation back home in Europe is causing a possible delay of staying in first year more than 6 months and I would like to know more about consequences of that possible act, can you clarify me more detailed or navigate me where to check and understand this case?
Hope I explained well enough so that you understand my thoughts with this ‘calendar math issue’.
Thank you again for everything and for this topic in advance!

Hi Mr.Simon. My case number EU36k, Bishkek embassy. I don’t have any chance in Bishkek with this case number. I’m planning to change the embassy to Belgrade, Serbia. How do you think it is good embassy? What other embassy you can advice? Thank you
April 28, 2025 at 09:31
In the first half of my live session this past weekend I explain how to assess embassy performance.
April 27, 2025 at 23:26
Hi Simon, My CN is 30XXX with Paris embassy , but I’ve recently moved to Australia. It’s too late for contact KCC and change embassy ? Or I should keep Paris embassy ? I’m worried if I won’t be able to afford last minute flight in case they schedule me an interview in Paris . Thanks you
April 27, 2025 at 23:39
You can unlock and correct your address, which would then change the interview location.
April 28, 2025 at 00:45
Thanks always sir.
Sir if I win the DV 2026 of course I will fill the ds 260 so my question for you is sir, my country of residence is Ethiopia, I am Ethiopia, sir Addis Ababa embassy performance cannot be predicted each year it differs so sir would you suggest I better change my interview location for 1st time iam filling the ds 260 or shall I keep as it is ( Addis ababa)
Note: why iam asking future question is of two reason sir i) definitely this year my hope is top . I believe I will win. I don’t know why iam that much hopeful . Maybe God has that plan for me this year
Ii) in case I win sir maybe lot’s of people will ask you large number of questions and I afraid I don’t get my questions being asked on time
Thank you sir
April 28, 2025 at 09:30
Everyone who enters the lottery believes they will win. Win first, then you can plan. But if you do win, enter your details, including your address accurately.
April 27, 2025 at 15:55
Hi mr simon, you previously said
**If you have not yet been scheduled (no 2NL) you are not asking for a “transfer”, you are asking to change your selected embassy. That process ONLY involves KCC**
so if my casee number is 40k morocco and lets say morocco reached 45k in visa bulletin but interviews still 20k, i still have the ability to contact kcc asking for a transfert ? or its over and i should contact the embassies
April 27, 2025 at 23:37
No you have taken the quote out of context. If your case is in stage 4 (AV status or “current for interview processing”), KCC won’t cooperate to change the embassy.
April 27, 2025 at 10:11
Hi Mr. Simon. My case number 36k EU, BKK embassy. I’m planning to change embassy to Belgrade, Serbia. What do you think about Belgrade?
April 27, 2025 at 10:29
They are a little backlogged at this point, but your number is very risky in any case.
April 28, 2025 at 00:50
I got it. Thank you very much

Hi BritSimon,
hope you are doing well
I am Elhamuddin Ismaili from Afghanistan my Case Number is 9462, my embassy is Guangzhou China USA Consulate (GUZ) any chance for July visa Bulletine??

Maybe
April 27, 2025 at 01:49
Dear Simon, I have received my visa and am considering doing my activation trip in Guam, which is not my intended final destination, nor my green card recipient address. Are you aware of any disadvantages to choosing Guam, or anything I need to be aware of? Thanks for your help – your content has been such an invaluable resource in this journey.
April 27, 2025 at 09:20
Others have used Guam – no problems.
April 27, 2025 at 01:41
Hello Simon,
My case number has become current, and my case number is 756*. I have selected the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad for my interview. However, considering that the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan is processing cases very slowly, I am wondering: will they still schedule an interview for me, or not?
Also, can I transfer my case to another country at this stage without causing any issues for myself?
I would truly appreciate your advice and guidance on this matter. Thank you very much for your support and cooperation.
April 27, 2025 at 09:19
I don’t know whether you will be scheduled or not – it is possible as long as they keep taking interviews. Changing interview location once you are current is harder.
April 27, 2025 at 00:18
Hello Brit Simon,
Do you still offer your green card reception service?
If yes, I would like to use your service, please.
Here is some information about my situation:
It has now been four months since I entered the United States, and I am still waiting to receive the green card I won through the DV Lottery.
I logged into my USCIS account, and I see that my green card has not yet been produced.
Some discussion forums say that it can take up to six months.
The problem is that I need to return to Europe for the next few months.
I also have to leave my current home in Las Vegas within 15 days. I won’t be able to move back in. I was a tenant. So I would like to update my delivery address and use yours, if possible.
Thank you very much in advance!
April 27, 2025 at 09:16
The problem is that they may use the address they had when you entered – they don’t always respect the updated address for delivery. However, with that caveat I will email you the details.
May 2, 2025 at 23:38
Hello, in your reply of April 27, you informed me that you would e-mail me all the information to go through your green card reception service. But I never received your email. Do you no longer offer your green card reception service?
May 3, 2025 at 15:30
I have it, just reworking the wording. I will email you.
May 4, 2025 at 00:59
Alright, but since it’s been a week since I sent you the email and this is an urgent matter, I really need to use your service now — because I have to update my address with USCIS ASAP. Thank you.
May 4, 2025 at 09:03
I have emailed you with instructions.
April 26, 2025 at 21:18
Hello Simon, thank you again for all that you do. My husband and I are in the US now, it’s been 4 months, I got a job but the insurance is not good, it is too expensive for us. Can we still get an insurance plan from the “Visitors Coverage” plans?
April 27, 2025 at 00:17
I would not advise that for long term coverage. It is only a bridge until you get insurance. The reality is that health insurance is expensive.
April 26, 2025 at 16:08
Simon, thanks for the service you’re doing here.
Submitted a lottery entry from NZ (so in the OC pool)—realistically, what are my chances this May? And if I do win, what’s the case number range, roughly, that’s “good”
Thanks again!
April 27, 2025 at 00:15
OC chances are much higher than the other regions – about 15/20% chance of selection (other regions are around 1%).
A good number is under OC1500

Hello Simon
I just arrived in Grand Rapids, Michigan last week on Thursday night. This Monday i visited the Social Security Administration Office for SSN and they told me that i didn’t have to go there as they won’t assist me because now they say it’s Automatic that my SSN will be sent to my address within two weeks or so. My host was not aware of that. Can you advise if i can wait? Or visit another office?
April 26, 2025 at 10:05
In the DS260 there is a question you had to answer to determine whether the SSN would be applied for automatically. If you said yes to that option, the SSN usually arrives within 2 to 3 weeks. If not you have to go back to the SSA.
April 27, 2025 at 09:32
The DS260 has an option for them to request an SSN for you automatically. If you chose that option the SSN normally arrives about 2 to 3 weeks after entry to the USA. If not (or if it is delayed) then you go to the local SSA office.
April 26, 2025 at 00:35
Just an observation , Kampala Uganda no history of issuing DV interview and DV23 out of nowhere they issued 2 people in September who received 2NL January and not FTJ cases
Did KCC f up?
April 26, 2025 at 10:03
I don’t know.
April 27, 2025 at 04:00
Hello Sir Simon, I hope you are doing well. Sir I have a question for you today . Before two years ago I travelled to a country in the middle east by applying medical visa , I got the visa but I didn’t go to any hospital in that country simply I back home after a fortnight, why I applied the medical visa was since at that time it was the only easier visa to apply so that I may go very fast and with no more delays. Sir if I win the dv 2026 will the U.S embassy ask me more about my travel history to that country like how I was sick when applied that medical visa, which hospital I visited, proof for the physician’s prescriptions and etc .
What could be your advise in case any questions is asked me by the consular?
April 27, 2025 at 09:26
I don’t know for sure how much interest they will have in the medical aspect. I would be surprised if they asked questions about that.
April 24, 2025 at 19:29
Dear Brit
As 12200 range
I’m unemployed previous 2 years due to some family commitment.currently I’m managing my father’s business. But I have completed my high school diploma .and I have 5+ work experience.
1. Is this disadvantage for me?
2. What are the things I need to disclose to co in future interviews?
Thank you
April 24, 2025 at 19:43
1. Yes and no. If you meet the education requirement, then the work experience doesn’t matter.
2. Too vague.
April 24, 2025 at 14:45
Card Was Returned To USCIS
On April 2025, the Post Office returned your new card for Form XXXXXX, Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration, Receipt Number XXXXXXXXXXXXX, to us. We mailed your card to the address you gave us, but the Post Office could not deliver it. The tracking number assigned is UNAVAILABLE. You can use your tracking number at http://www.USPS.com in the Quick Tools > Track a Package section. We will destroy your new card if we do not receive an address update by July 2025. Please go to http://www.uscis.gov/e-request to request that we resend the card to you. If you move, go to http://www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.
Dear Simon,
I got this when i checked mu status.
What can i do in this situation?
I am currently not in USA but will be there in a month
April 24, 2025 at 15:56
Aww jeez. This is the sort of thing you want to avoid.
However, as to “what to do – their message makes that clear – just follow the instructions, but be CERTAIN that the address you give is a safe and secure place to send your GC.
April 24, 2025 at 17:08
Thank you, Simon.
I’m fairly confident that the address I provided is correct. Am I allowed to submit the same address again as a change and then report the delivery issue?
April 24, 2025 at 19:42
That would be unwise. There must have been a reason it could not be delivered. Remember, they could easily say its your fault that the GC is not delivered and then they will charge you over $500 for a replacement.
April 24, 2025 at 10:28
Hi Simon,
What can I do if I was selected in the Diversity Lottery and already received my visa?
My plan is to travel to the U.S. to start the process, but I don’t want to move permanently until everything is sorted and I have my Green Card (PRC) and Social Security Number (SSN).
I don’t know anyone in the U.S. — how can I receive my card if I don’t have a U.S. address, and USCIS doesn’t send the card abroad?
April 24, 2025 at 12:31
Most people have someone they can trust to receive the GC and SSN. However, I have setup an address where people can receive these documents and I will hold the documents then arrange to forward them within the US once you are here. That is a paid service ($80) since I am incurring costs. You do NOT have to wait for the GC to start work.
If you are interested, let me know.
April 24, 2025 at 13:48
Hi! Im interested in this service, can you let know how can I contact with you? Thanks!
April 24, 2025 at 07:07
Hello Brit. I have a question about school documents such as certification with a stamp from the Ministry of Education that must be submitted to the embassy, is there any validity, do they have to be recent or within a year from the date of the interview? flm
April 24, 2025 at 08:46
I don’t know the requirements of documents from specific countries.
April 23, 2025 at 18:50
Hello Sir,
I red here a winners saying he has probem how to confirm his appointment on websit usvisaappt.com the system is saying Case ID incorect.
I helped someone to register, he must add digit 0. I.e 2025AF00001234. If he omitted zero he won’t proceed to next page.
Regards.
April 23, 2025 at 12:12
Hi Simon, my 2-year home residency requirement from my J-1 visa will be completed by mid-July, and my case number (AS9xxx) is expected to become current in July as well. Should I start preparing documentation to confirm the completion of the 2-year residency requirement? If so, could you please let me know which documents are required?
April 23, 2025 at 17:30
I don’t know of any particular document. I would be prepared show evidence that the requirement was completed.
April 23, 2025 at 09:47
Hello britsimon
I did mention in my DS260 that i have a worked experience, but the company i previously worked with is no more operating, and I’m fine it difficult to get that supporting documents from them but im a graduate i have all my school documents including my Degree and currently have a new job will i still have to take a proof of working exprience
April 23, 2025 at 11:45
Not if you meet the education requirement, no.
April 23, 2025 at 09:30
HI BritSimon
In my DS260 i mention that i have travel to Ghana for 2 months but now I’m taking a new passport with me for my interview will they request for the old passport to see the stamp?
April 23, 2025 at 09:38
Probably not, but if you have the old passport, take it.
April 23, 2025 at 06:47
Hi Simon I made an error in the name while submitting for DV 2026. I have two first names (Mary Mariam), but I got confused, and I put one as a middle name and another as a last name. i was inquiring in the case that I am selected, will i be able to register the correct ones in the DS-260, and will i encounter any challenge because of it
April 23, 2025 at 08:47
Typically, you can make corrections, if selected. However, your mistake means you will have a significantly different name to the selectee, so I think there would be risk of denial.
April 23, 2025 at 03:52
Just a suggestion for the new DV 2026 winner s (hope I’m one of them too 😍) ,if you are conducting survey for number for regions
Atleast there should be a plan to stop DV 2025 winner to participate, the number survey of DV 2025 was so disappointing and huge variation especially AF region
Maybe let them fill a unique field that could easily filter real vs genuine cases .
April 23, 2025 at 08:45
Some people don’t even understand which year they are winners in…
April 25, 2025 at 10:08
We could filter them out by mandatory asking to register a date they filed an entry, and maybe color coded options lol 😆
April 22, 2025 at 21:23
Hi Mr Simon,
From Yaounde Cameroon! I picked up my visa and already in the USA. I got Married to my long time girl friend before securing my visa! I didn’t tell the embassy when I went for interview because it was briefed and fast! Will there be an issue Filling for my wife to join me since I was married few months before securing my visa?
April 22, 2025 at 21:30
Well you should have told them. Not doing so might be seen as suspicious. You will also wait a long time to bring your wife.
April 22, 2025 at 18:04
Hi Simon please can one reschedule his or her interview date ?if yes please how do I go by it please ?
April 22, 2025 at 21:29
Yes, you do that by contacting the embassy.
April 23, 2025 at 10:19

April 22, 2025 at 14:02
Hi Britsimon
I’m from Liberia my case number is 2025AF67k based upon the Visa bulletin show for June is 42k, do you think I have a chance of getting an interview?
April 22, 2025 at 21:29
Maybe.
April 21, 2025 at 22:24
What are the likely odds of someone from UK winning DV2026?
I believe if there are 3 million entries in the EU then it should be 1% as the chance of winning is similar to chance to getting a case number <30k out of 3million, am I right?
but what are the chances of EU being less than 3million, I see it was 2mill in 2021 but we do not have any data after that but I suspect its increased
Then I also have to consider the chances of UK hitting the 7% quota, is it likely to considering its 67mill people and this is a rare opportunity most brits wouldn't otherwise get, but on the other-hand, well off countries aren't typically hitting the quota
April 22, 2025 at 09:13
The chances each year for EU are typically around 1%. However, Western EU countries don’t typically get many entries, so I would not expect a high number – and certainly not anything that would threaten the 7% cap (cap, not quota).
April 21, 2025 at 22:13
Hi Simon,
Appreciate the time spend on helping us..
My case number is AF67 and I was allocated to Cairo embassy as I am from sudan. Knowing previous performance of the embassy (not this year though!) I moved to Freetown which is apparently a bad move. Now my question:
1-Can I move my case to another embassy again?
2-which embassies would you recommend I can pretty much fly anywhere.
Thank you!
April 22, 2025 at 08:55
1. It is possible.
2. I wouldn’t keep jumping around if I were you. Remember that not all embassies will be able to quickly approve a Sudanese case.
April 21, 2025 at 11:58
Hi Britsimon ,
I received my 2NL, and it includes both the interview date and location. I’ve noticed that some people go and register for their interview appointment after receiving the 2NL. Since my interview date is already listed in the 2NL, do I still need to register separately? I’m asking because I want to make sure I don’t miss any steps. I haven’t found any specific information about needing to register, and it seems like the interview was automatically scheduled by the KCC with no further action required on my part ?
April 21, 2025 at 13:59
In some embassies it is required to setup an account with the courier website, even though you are not needing an appointment date.
April 21, 2025 at 11:27
Hi Simon, I wanted to ask you about the DV Lottery results. In 2020, the results were postponed from May 5th to June 6th due to the coronavirus pandemic, and around 13,000 people had to work from home.
Now, in 2025, with the recent job cuts by Elon Musk (DOGE) at USCIS, (20.000 jobs) do you think the DV 2026 results might be postponed again, from May 3rd to June 4th?
Thank you .
April 21, 2025 at 13:58
No
April 21, 2025 at 10:16
Hello,
I hope you are doing well. My name is Azaam, and I am from Somalia. I am writing to ask a quick question regarding the DV Lottery process.
As you might be aware, there are recent discussions about the U.S. reinstating a travel ban on Somalia and some other countries. Since the DV 2025 results will be announced soon (in May), I would like to know: If a person from Somalia wins the DV Lottery, will the travel ban affect their ability to get a visa or enter the U.S., even if they meet all the other requirements?
I would really appreciate your guidance on this, as the uncertainty is quite stressful for many of us.
Thank you very much for your time and help!

Travel bans can affect DV winners, yes.

hi Brit,
originally from a countyr referred to Nairobi when filling the DS260,
as Nairobi is slowing down, what reason can I advance to move to an other embassy like Kigali which will not require addtionnal documents

You should have some real reason to connect you to that new country, work, family, friends…

Hi Simon, I just wanted to confirm—does the Abu Dhabi embassy refrain from sending out invitations during July and August?

Possibly – I can’t be certain if it is a policy, or a coincidence.

Hello Simon. Happy Easter 🐣 and I hope you are doing fine today. I have a request please and I pray you have a little time to help me out please 🙏
I have tried to predict when I will get my 2nl from the dv charts but i really can’t I followed your video but it is difficult for me to predict it. My case number is AF41000 and it is current right now and the embassy is Yaoundé Cameroon. Can you please help me? Thank you in advance.

You need to know the number of cases per thousand, the gap between the max case already scheduled and your number, and then consider the capacity they are taking each month.
So – what are your answers for those three factors?
April 26, 2025 at 04:46
Coupling the factors mention by Brit Simon, I think you should expect your 2nl in the middle of May.

Dear Brit
My CN AS 12200. I did some basic analysis based on available data. Between my CN and last VB(8250),there are 2260 cases in NVC and can assume 4500 People in the distribution. Based on this I can expect my number current? Thank you

This would have been my prediction all along…

Hello. I watched your live video yesterday and I agree with most of the things you said regarding the pace of Dv2025 and how it’s likely going to fall behind Dv2024 in the coming months in all significant categories : issued , ready, and total scheduled cases. I think Dv2025 is still ahead compared to Dv2024 because it has fewer 221g cases( same time last year comparison). I am more convinced now that AF will go current in the last month but it may not even reach the 22.5k issued visas that Dv2024 did due to dismal embassy performance across the region. That said, does it make sense for someone like me , AF64k from Cameroon to move to a neighboring and quite embassy and grab that last minute chance or wait for enough people below my case to move their interviews elsewhere so I can get a chance. Also, does moving one’s case to another embassy increase the risk of 221g given that the consular officers may not be familiar with the application’s certificates, qualifications, etc?

Yes 221g risk can increase at a “foreign” embassy.

Dear Brit Simon,
from 2017 to 2018 (for 1.5 years), I participated in a language course in Jordan to study Arabic (I am from Germany). I entered and stayed in the country on a tourist visa, which I renewed every three to six months. In the DS-260, I indicated that I had lived in Jordan for at least one year, which means I am required to provide a police certificate. Unfortunately, this is not possible because I was in the country on a tourist visa, and the authorities do not issue a police certificate or any official document in such cases. Will this cause any problems?
Best regards!

You will need it. However, you seem to have not read the reciprocity page, because there it says the following:
“Comments: Available to current and former residents of Jordanian citizens and foreigners regardless of the nationality or the length of stay.”

Hi Simon. I was casually going through the Ceac data for DV2022 and noticed Nairobi embassy took 715 cases in the last VB for September interviews. I was wondering if this is a technical glitch or something that actually happened. If this is indeed true and possible then embassies in AF have been seriously letting selectees down for the past years. If they can do this volume in a single month, why don’t they pause I.R cases just for one month and clear their DV backlogs ?
April 20, 2025 at 08:37
Not a glitch, that really happened. This is why I am quietly confident they will take more cases.
