There are big changes being proposed to the Green Card lottery. The changes will probably be implemented in time for the DV2021 entry period this October.
It DOES NOT affect DV2019 or DV2020 in ANY way.
You can watch the video below for a full explanation of the changes:
I would really like to hear from people whether they think this is a good or bad thing – leave me a comment below, or on the YouTube page.
The official site about the law change is here.

I selected the box under exempt from passport because i was unable to obtain my passport because my passport was delayed due to some political instability of my country back then, but i was supposed to receive the passport before the deadline also my issuance date was on September as mentioned on the passport detail, could this disqualify me?
July 20, 2020 at 21:09
Yes
June 2, 2020 at 07:56
Hi Britsimon! Is it true that dv2021 will be the last lottery? There won’t be a dv2022?
Thanks
June 2, 2020 at 19:10
No that is not true.
April 24, 2020 at 08:54
Hi britsimon!
Pls I wanna know if it’s possible to be disqualified for the dv selection even if you registered with a validated passport ??
April 24, 2020 at 14:25
Yes, if you entered twice or something like that.
February 13, 2020 at 12:20
What are the crterials used in selecting
February 13, 2020 at 18:43
The draw itself is a random selection.

Good Day Mr Brit; 2 questions please
1. What is ISCIS what information is kept there that can affect a police clearance?
2. Do i really need to go back to all the countries i have visited in the last 10years to get police clearance or I can just request it by email or better still visit the Embassy of the countries i visited?
February 3, 2020 at 18:50
1. I don’t know.
2. You read the instructions on the reciprocity page for each country. But make sure you understand which countries you need police certs for – you do NOT need them for countries you visited for short trips.

Hi Brit, I read somewhere that the health proclamation by the president had only been halted for 28 days, does this mean after that period it might be effected? Please give an in depth explanation on this
November 9, 2019 at 05:01
Possibly. It is a temporary block.

Dear Britsimon,
My husband is selected for dv2020. My question is regarding police report. I have been to South Korea for study for 2 years in 2010. My concern is that being a dependent applicant is it necessary for me to make police report from South Korea. I really hope it is not required because it is quite impossible to make one now since its been many years and now i do not have any contact there. Please suggest.
November 9, 2019 at 04:42
You have to read the instructions, including the reciprocity page. Please do that.

This year is the most boring year it seems ever. Why do they provide free place which can fill with out passport number if it is not permitted with out passport number?…….do the US gov’t filter for those who are already participated with out passport number during the entry before the random selection which will be held in may2020?
November 4, 2019 at 15:04
No. But they do filter out people who can’t be bothered to follow simple instructions.
November 1, 2019 at 13:44
Hello dear ! i can’t get a passport now and apply for dv2021 without passport information if i win and provide a passport
before interview is that possible please ?
November 2, 2019 at 15:41
No
October 22, 2019 at 09:09
Hey pls I want play dv my passport expired two month ago is it possible?
October 22, 2019 at 23:12
No
October 21, 2019 at 21:37
Hi Brit, thank you for the video! I’m just worried about these new rules. It is said that “This interim final rule is effective June 5, 2019”.
Why won’t it affect DV2020 winners if it is already effective? Could you please explain it a bit further?
October 22, 2019 at 04:30
It is about ENTERING the lottery.
October 22, 2019 at 06:33
But what if I made a mistake in my country of chargability (same region) in the ENTRY form of DV2020? It looks like “mandatory disqualification” according to these new rules. I can’t find any mention in the text that it’s not applied to the completed applications in the previous year.
I’m not a specialist in US laws therefore I may not understand something obvious about it. So may I ask you to clarify this point?
October 22, 2019 at 22:59
No – not mandatory disqualification. It would depend on the two countries involved.
February 2, 2020 at 12:25
Hello BritSimon, my bit of comment following implementation of the passport rule in DV 2021. They supposedly put the rule in place in order to curb fraud in the DV process. In my opinion this had little effect on fraud because in the DRcongo Kinshasa agents were still entering petitions even without passport information. I made a tour in lots of DV shops and that was what the practice was, unfortunately. Those agents made it clear to entrants that passport was not a disqualifying factor. This is what you could read at the shop door.
February 2, 2020 at 16:39
Well of course scammers will keep on trying to scam people. The change won’t work overnight while people still allow themselves to be lied to.
February 2, 2020 at 17:05
Thanks. I even called KCC to raise the issue. They were confident that these petitions will be caught and disqualified. We all hope so.

Haybrit britsimon, how u doing on? I following u since 2015 about dvlottery information. And, I det infinite information right. …………………having this, I want to ask one question about the dvlottery2021 APPLICATION. the us govt announced that the dvlottery2021 applicant must have valid and unexpired passport. But, here in our country, Ethiopia some agents are filling dvlottery2021 with out passport for the applicants by using the second option which is passport exemption especially with option 3. Is it possible to fill with out passport for the dvlottery2021 sir?
7. Passport
In order to submit an entry for the Diversity Visa program, you must currently possess a valid, unexpired passport from your country of nationality, unless exempt (see below). Please answer A or B.
A) Passport Information:
Name On Passport:
Last/Family name______________First Name__________Middle Name____________
no first name no middle name
Passport Number:________________________
Passport Expiration Date:
Month
mm___________________
Day
dd____________________
Year
yyyy__________________
Country/Authority of Issuance:—————————
B) Passport Exemption:
1, I am not required to submit passport information because I am:
Stateless (no nationality)
2, A national of a Communist-controlled country, and unable to obtain a passport
from my government.
3, Unable to obtain a passport, and have received an individual waiver of
the passport requirement by the Secretary of Homeland Security or Secretary of State.
I understand that if it is later determined I am not exempt from the passport requirement, I may be disqualified from the Diversity Visa program
October 12, 2019 at 19:43
Those people are NOT exempt from the requirement so they will be disqualified. The agents know this – they are just scamming people.
October 13, 2019 at 02:44
Those registering without a passport, would they be disqualified when the entry is done or after they are selected
October 13, 2019 at 15:13
During the interview which means they will lose all their money paid for fees, medicals and so on.
October 13, 2019 at 15:27
Then if that’s what is going on,then the chance’s of winning is gone be slim cause they are still making us who r qualify not have a chance,or what do u think
October 13, 2019 at 15:53
That is better than the scenario today. That is why they pick more people than available visas.
October 10, 2019 at 03:00
What is the purpose of the mailing address in the dv entry form yet KCC does not send letters? Will ones entry being disqualified if he or she doesn’t include one?
October 10, 2019 at 04:48
Just follow the instructions!
October 4, 2019 at 18:00
Hello Brit, what do you think are the winning chances for those who will successfully participate in the dv 2021 given the new passport rule?
October 4, 2019 at 23:19
Somewhat better than normal.
October 4, 2019 at 01:18
HI brit,my wife don’t want to migrate to the states with me so in registration should I do it single or include her.
October 4, 2019 at 04:40
YOu must enter as married, but she does not have to be processed if you win.
October 2, 2019 at 14:40

October 3, 2019 at 02:07
