CEAC data August 17
OK – this is a mid month data update to show the continued DV2015 progress. As we can see the EU region is marching steadily on. To me, AF is starting to look blatantly underfilled. That could be because cases are understated, and it is obvious that the some embassies, particularly in Africa, are not diligent in updating CEAC. You can see that from the in Transit cases still “unclaimed” in AF region compared to other regions – but there are also many reports of CEAC status showing outdated or incorrect status.
I cannot stress enough how important it is for all applicants with interviews scheduled in August and September to prepare properly to ensure no avoidable AP cases. If you are scheduled for an interview in August or September there is a visa number reserved for you. However, that visa slot can be lost and given to someone else if you do not get approved in the interview.
Here is the data.
Please remember you can filter the data yourself to look at the results of a specific embassy.
I will publish a new file at the end of the month. By the way – DV2016 cases are not yet loaded into CEAC – so it will probably be several months before I can show similar data extracts for DV2016.

Thousands of people manage through following the instructions. You have not said which part confuses you, but I think if you follow the instructions carefully, you will manage.

Dear Simon, sorry to ask my question here, but since “Ask Questions Here” section doesn’t work for me (due to a SQL error) I post my question here. My wife is a DV2015 winner and we had our interview on first week of July on Montreal and got AP. Since then, our CEAC has been updated 4 times and in last update which was today (24th), our status is still AP, but my 2-year-old baby’s status become “Ready”! What does that mean? As far as I’ve learned from you, “Ready” means you’ve been scheduled for an interview (which obviously we’ve already done). So I’m a little confused and can’t understand what’s going on. Any comment on this? Thanks in advance for your time and help. Erwin
August 24, 2015 at 20:11
We cannot really infer much from the updates. They could mean something, or be meaningless. As for the ready on your child’s case – again – that might simply be a mistaken update to the CEAC system by the embassy.
CEAC is not always correctly updated – it is not they system they use to control your case – so don’t put too much emotional investment into the update changes there.

hi britsimon, i am one of ur biggest fan and i have one unanswered burning question., I am granted diversity visa on june 2015 and i am obliged to travel to usa after the expiration of the medical but not the visa due to school. Do i need to do the medical again in usa as i once read such a thing on kenyan forum
August 25, 2015 at 16:23
The expiry date on the visa is the most important thing. In theory they might ask you to retake the medical after you enter the USA – but that is unlikely.

Does applying DV260 very early as I did positively affect the chances of getting an interview date early ?
I mean, if the case number is AS71xx and the Dv260 was submitted on May 2015 , another case is AS65xx but DV260 is submitted in October 2015, will this mean that chances of AS71xx are geater than those of AS65xx ? Can u pls explain ?
August 25, 2015 at 15:24
No – case number is the most important thing – so in your example, the AS65XX case would most likely be interviewed forst UNLESS both numbers because current within the same month – then there is no difference.
August 25, 2015 at 13:50
Hello BRIT , please Simon I need your advices, my interview was the 03 august ,I am in AP since this date no information. What can I do ? Can I send them a mail?
August 25, 2015 at 15:16
There is nothing you can do – you just have to wait….
August 25, 2015 at 14:44
Once again I would like to thank you warmly for all the work you are doing for helping people in DV immigration. This is really great so thanks a lot !
Do you know what is the approximate no show rate for interviews ?
August 25, 2015 at 16:21
I won’t know that until after the end of the year.
August 25, 2015 at 15:30
I completed and submitted my DS260 a week ago. Should I be getting a confirmation email soon? Does the KCC send confirmation emails at all?
August 25, 2015 at 16:36
Some people get a confirmation, some don’t. Either way – all you do now is wait – it could take 3 months or so to process your forms, and during that time they will not keep you informed….
August 25, 2015 at 17:17

August 26, 2015 at 00:33
Hi again Simon,
I have three question and I’d appreciate it if you kindly answer them as well.
(1) I ‘m just wondering how many visa numbers (dv-visas) an embassy can get each month? Is it a fixed amount of visa numbers? Let me explain my question a little bit more: Let’s suppose by the end of August, all of 30 AP cases of an embassy are cleared and the embassy has already used all of its visa slots. Could that embassy ask NVC for “30+X” visa numbers for September? or is it always a fixed number of visas (i.e. 10 visas/month) for that given embassy?
(2) Now that they’ve not scheduled any new interviews for September, how they’re gonna deal with big number of AP cases who will be cleared by the end of August and early September? Any possibility for visa shortage for Asia?
(3) Is it possible to redistribute DV- Visa numbers (slots) from one continent to another? (i.e Asia to EU). I’m asking this, because you mentioned here (in this post), “…visa slot can be lost and given to someone else…”
Thanks a lot for your time and help.
August 26, 2015 at 04:59
1. They get the visas allocated for the cases being scheduled by KCC. That is it. That could vary by month.
2. There are plenty of interviews scheduled for September. Cases came from the backlog. Asia looks on target to issue all visas in the quota.
3. Regions have quotas. There is a rule about redistribution – but that only comes in to play when a region underfills. AF might underfill this year.
August 26, 2015 at 07:20
AF will underfill that is a fact. And this was done purposely by kcc. You can not hold a number for 7 months yet you are not sure if that number will appear for an interview. Again last vb you keep the number low
August 26, 2015 at 14:46
Well, it won’t be a fact until it happens… but I know what you mean.
August 26, 2015 at 05:29
Hi, from where exactly do you get the ceac raw data?
August 26, 2015 at 06:21
The CEAC system.
August 26, 2015 at 09:35
is everyone put on temporary AP after the interview before visa issuance?
August 26, 2015 at 14:40
Not everyone, but many/most
August 26, 2015 at 15:16
Thank you! Why some people are not put some are?
Do you know how long it takes?
August 26, 2015 at 15:33
Depends on the embassy, and probably some people don’t see the update. It usually changes in a day or two.
August 26, 2015 at 22:11
and how long it takes to be contacted by the Embassy for the passport pickup after the status changes to “Issued”?
August 27, 2015 at 01:27
The embassy give you those instructions – but generally within a few days.
August 26, 2015 at 19:50
Salut britsymon j’ai gagner dv2015 après l’interview je fait le mariage combien du temps de la prosedure pour ramener ma femme a Usa
August 27, 2015 at 14:42
After we get our visa do we need to enter to USA all family together or can we go seperatly? for example my husband would go first, after couple months I would go.. it that possible?
August 27, 2015 at 14:53
The principal must enter before or with the derivatives. So – your husband can go first if he is the winner.
August 28, 2015 at 06:00
Thank you Simon 🙂
August 27, 2015 at 22:52
My friend just adjusted status in the U.S. under DV 2015. His wife and son are in Japan and Embassy said that September numbers are exhausted but Embassy will notify them if any additional numbers are released in mid-September to the end of September. Last year, do you know if there were any further numbers released in September for Asia? I assume this is betting on cancellations or denials.
August 28, 2015 at 01:19
It isn’t further numbers as such – as you say it could be denials etc. They have some of those – but not many of course.
August 28, 2015 at 02:06
Thank you Simon for your quick reply. Yes, they kept repeating that it was not likely but to stand ready if two visa numbers became available, and that it could be on the very last day, Sept 30th. You have a terrific site and the best on practical DV knowledge
August 28, 2015 at 04:38
Wow – that will be a nailbiting wait. Best of luck!
August 28, 2015 at 22:20
Wondering if you know, will an original signed I-134 be required for mother and 4 year old child as well as a certified copy of the family registry for each? Thought one original will do but the instructions seem to require an original for each.
August 28, 2015 at 22:27
I’m not sure on the family registry – because normally people have their own birth certificates. If in doubt – provide more, rather than less…
August 28, 2015 at 17:57
hello sir simon , I have spent my interview August 19 al embassy of Algiers , the consular officer my recommending completed my file with the I- 134 and proof of income for my brother or friend even if he not live in united states because my sponsor new york 17000 dollars he earns , and the consular officer my saying it ‘s not suffissant .j ‘ have a friend montreal ( canada ) that it earns 30,000 dollars a year he filled my the I -134 and also proof of income .and I have left on the file to the embassy on August 25 .
My friend new york he prorviding room and food , and my friend montreal intend to send money if I have need .Also I have a bank account.
1-is what you think it’s positive for me.
2-is that it’s the same consular officer that it will study my case.
August 28, 2015 at 18:17
Firstly, a sponsor should be a USA resident and taxpayer. It is unusual that the CO suggested someone outside of the USA.
Even your Canadian friend is not earning that much – so again it is risky.
I don’t know if the same CO will study your case. You must complete this proof quickly – there is not much time left before the year ends.
August 28, 2015 at 19:20
yes , even me I ‘ was surprised when my request , has in my interview I have give I -134 and 1040 tax form of my friend new york, but the consular officer my saying it ‘ s not suffissant it my ask what I know of other people I answered him that I have my brother in France , there I say that your brother can make you I- 134 and evidence of income , he scored on a paper (recommended I- 134 brother and income proof ) after like my brother he is not much income I said was that a friend he can do it myself I answered yes we can , and Complete the file before September 15 ??? .
1-at Embassy Algiers Consular Officer that are not required by the consular official sponsor and some require the sponsor , I do not understand why?
2-income required for the sponsor on gross income or net income .
August 28, 2015 at 19:36
1. Each case should be evaluated individually. Therefore the I-134 is not always required.
2. Gross income
August 28, 2015 at 19:35
that is the consular officer that he ask me to bring another sponsor my brother is that he lives in France or another friend .I am surprised and worried.
August 28, 2015 at 20:29
thank you sir simon my sponsor its annual gross income is 27,000 dollars it is single and the income requirements is 19,912 dollar,s why the consular officer my saying it ‘s not suffissant?
August 28, 2015 at 20:41
I don’t know – but earlier you said the income was 17000…
August 28, 2015 at 21:26
27;729 dollars annual gross income and after paying tax 17000 dollars annual net income .he is self employed taxi driver.
August 28, 2015 at 21:54
Ahh ok – well as he is self employed, he has expenses that mean his real income is much lower than 27729. So – the 17k is probably his net earnings after business expenses – so now that makes sense why the CO judged that as not enough.
August 28, 2015 at 22:29
ok , in addition i had a bank account in 9.000 dollars.i don’t know why he brought my request I- 134 to my brother in France or another friend .i ‘ had no other solution ,I added I- 134 from my friend canada because its gross annual salary about 42.000 usd .more than my brother 20;000 usd .i ‘ hope that it’ll be enough.

August 29, 2015 at 11:06
Hello mr. Simon! Hope you’re doing great. I just have a little question here and wish an answer from you, please. I had my interview 10 days ago and my visa was approved…but still I haven’t received my passport yet. Noting that all people who had their interviews with me got their passports. For the records, the status of my case indicates “issued”. Thank you very much!
August 29, 2015 at 14:42
I answered in the forum. Contact the embassy to arrange to get your passport – I am sure there is no issue.

August 31, 2015 at 07:12
Hi Brit. My case no’ is 2016AF0001……What do you think of it?
August 31, 2015 at 15:22
It could be AF1, AF100, AF1000 or AF100000.
August 31, 2015 at 19:32
hi brit i have just one question do you think that if the KCC won’t reach the quota in africa region which is 20K they will take in consideration this “no showing” cases and resolve this problem this year because this what have led to this dramatic cut off of this years ,thnx
August 31, 2015 at 19:45
I think the quota is 22k for AK.
I don’t know if they will build in understanding of the no shows – we can only wait and see….
September 4, 2015 at 06:08
I need to change my address to receive my gc is there anyway to do so online? See the first time i activated my visa tge officer sent in my info. A letter was forwarded to the new address from USCIS stating that the fees must be paid before they send the green card which ai did do. So the second trip i took my daughter to activate her visa and I enformed The officer at the P. O. E he told me it was to late for him to change mines in the system i would have to go into a Uscis office but I could of sworn i saw somewhere online where i could of either changed it online or call to change it. They have everything else accessible online :/ I don’t know if now the card might be forwarded as well but just in case to be safe
September 4, 2015 at 06:31
You should let USCIS know when you change address. You do it online at http://www.uscis.gov/addresschange
However, the change will probably not affect where your GC is sent.
September 5, 2015 at 13:04
Alright, thank you. Also my daughters passport was stamped and the expiration date for the stamp is 2017 does that mean thats when her green card expires or she can be out of the country for 2 years?
September 5, 2015 at 14:26
I don’t know precisely why they stamped 2017 – but it is not permission to be out of the country for 2 years, and it is not when her greencard expires.
