So – we now have the CEAC data and I spent a couple of hours on a LIVE session (linked below) showing that data this morning. CEAC data is useful to confirm the highest case numbers selected in each region (below), but it also normally helps us understand embassy performance each month, issuance data and so on. This data has been incredibly useful to us for a number of years and it has been a wonderful tool to help people understand their situation.
Now – in mid November we noticed that the CEAC system (which is the source of the data) had been changed adding two new fields, passport and name, as highlighted below.

We quickly realized that we could still extract data using NA / NA for the two fields, and Xarthisius extracted the data using that technique. However, it is clear that some percentage of cases are misreported at “holes”, and we now know that some cases can only be checked with the passport and name. The affected cases are all cases that have been scheduled for interview or their CEAC record touched for some update.
So – what does this mean? Well it means we will probably have a lot less data available this year. We won’t have reliable counts of how many visas are issued, how many cases get scheduled at each embassy and so on. It will be much harder to assess which embassies are backlogged and their month to month capacity. That will be very damaging since people won’t have 100% reliable data on which to decide whether they should move to another embassy. We can’t be sure exactly what data will be unavailable to us, so this story will develop over time, but at the moment my assumption is that we will be going slowly blind over the year, and we will be less and less informed as time goes on. Xarthisius can identify these cases that “go dark” but after that we won’t know anything about them.
Some countries/embassies have Telegram/whatsapp channels specific to that country/embassy and those channels can provide some useful information – so I encourage you to be involved in those groups to share information – especially for some of the larger embassies.
Now – if your case shows as a “dark hole” in Xarthisius’ site you can do the following.
1. You might be able to retrieve your CEAC data by inputting the passport number and lastname at https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx
2. In some cases they may have used your spouse’s passport for the case – so try that if you cannot get in to your case status.
3. You can also try your name in the name field and “NA” for the passport field.
4. Some people may find that even with the passport and lastname they still cannot retrieve the status from CEAC. I don’t know whether that will be fixed later or not.
By all means give me feedback and ideas about this. I don’t know exactly how the data is being updated, and it seems possible that they will make mistakes with the information.
NOW – let me be clear. Whether your case is affected or not makes ABSOLUTELY no difference to your case. It does not indicate a problem, it is just the status check system. No need to panic.
Here is the New Years Day LIVE video where I showed and discussed the CEAC data.

Hi Simon I did my interview i was given the green paper, my passport was kept and the ceac status was updated on 21st December to “refused” what could be the issue

The pause of the program. All cases are being placed on refused (221g) status. The pause is temporary, so be patient.

Hi Simon, how will I know if Ghana embassy has started sending out 2NL. Because it seems I haven’t heard anyone going for interview at Ghana embassy.
January 3, 2026 at 22:14
You might find out through Telegram channels and so on.
January 3, 2026 at 09:07
Is the data relating the numbers of 2NLs sent for each embassy until 1 January correct?
January 3, 2026 at 09:46
Not 100% correct, no. Some cases already became “dark holes” before Jan 1
January 3, 2026 at 02:18

January 3, 2026 at 09:21
It is normal
January 3, 2026 at 01:18
Just to be sure, if i’m still waiting for my turn at DV26, i.e. having only confirmation number and case number, is it somehow useful for me? I mean, I dont have the immigrant visa case number yet?
January 3, 2026 at 09:21
Sounds like you haven’t read the instructions you were given, or any of the basic questions. I suggest you start there.
January 2, 2026 at 15:18
My name is Alex mensah from Ghana Africa I’m still waiting for my faaback please thank again

Dude – you keep posting these vague questions. THe process is a lottery. Enter the lottery – you might win…
January 2, 2026 at 14:48
Brit, this is crazy
People, who already hold their green cards trough the DV lottery and applied for citizenship- now they’re interviews and even oaths have been canceled
Who can they do this when is not on the pause ?
But only for aos and new immigrant visas ?
January 2, 2026 at 19:19
People need to remain calm and be a bit patient…

Where can I find the country/embassy-specific group chats or Telegram channels? More specifically, is there one for Dublin, London or Frankfurt?
Also, how were Dublin, London and/or Frankfurt usually performing over the years? Would they be able to catch up quickly if the pause lasted 60-90 days, for instance?
January 2, 2026 at 14:03
Those embassies are very small – unlikely to have group chats that would be useful.
Yes they could all catch up quickly.
January 2, 2026 at 12:37
Well, in my case which is scheduled for an interview, the only way to retrieve my data on the CEAC was by filling my case number and last name but having passport number as NA.
All other trials resulted in no data.
January 2, 2026 at 13:09
Interesting – thanks.

Hi Simon,
I read from state department that interview dates can still continue to be scheduled for Dv candidates but unfortunately no DVs will be issued. Is that worth the interview preparation and all the money cost that goes with it? Don’t you think this will be the waste of money to prepare for something that we already know there will be no VISA ISSUED ?
January 2, 2026 at 13:06
No visa issued at that time,. but when the pause is lifted visas would then be issued to those people placed on hold. They are behaving as though the pause is temporary…
January 3, 2026 at 01:03
Yes it’s better to go for the interview now and await the visa than to reschedule and latter Posibly fail to secure an interview slot due to time constraint. Goodluck everyone.
