Today I am publishing the mid month file for February 16, 2016.
Please take a look at the file and use filters on the file to work out specifics on any country/region you are interested in – I don’t have time to do that for everyone that requests specific data to their interest. You can learn how to filter here.
To explain what the status codes mean.
The first status for every case is “AT NVC”. You can ignore the text on the case – the case has not been passed to NVC. What this status means is that the case is in one of the following situations.
- The case is not yet current.
- The case is current, BUT the DS260 has not be submitted at all, or it was submitted but not processed yet – and therefore not scheduled.
- The case is current, the form is processed, but it is waiting to be scheduled (typically because the cases have not yet been sent to the embassies yet).
“In Transit”
This status is shown for a brief period when KCC has scheduled the interview, and transferred the case to the embassy. However, the embassy has not yet updated CEAC to acknowledge they have received the case.
“READY”
This is the next status after in transit. It means the case has arrived at the embassy for interview. Sometimes a case will continue to show ready even after the interview.
“Issued”
Pretty obviously – this is the status we all want to see! The interview took place, was successful and the visa has been approved/issued.
“Refused”
This is the status no one wants to see, meaning the interview took place and the selectee was denied. A derivative can be refused, while the principal is approved. However, if the principal is refused – all the derivatives are refused also – even if the embassy fails to update CEAC.
“Administrative Processing”
This is when someone did not have all the documents at the interview OR some additional checks are needed before the case can be adjudicated. AP can last a few days or several months. The status updates during that time are meaningless.
Here is the file itself.

Hello mr brit, kindly inquiring to know how i pay the greencard fee of $165 before travelling.secondily does it also hve the latest date of paying or i can pay any time.thirdly if someone attends the interview and put under ap,does the embassy keep the passport till ap is done or?thanks sir for all your help you once helped correct some mistake on ds260 and as i talk now all our visas were approved and issued.lastly sir i know that we cant travel before the princepal applicant, and if he travels first and we fall him later,do we still hve to appear with him at the port of entry even when he travelled first or it doesnt matter him being absent at the time of our arrival in us.thanks sir.
March 30, 2016 at 05:26
1. The embassy give you instructions on how to pay online.
2. You can pay at any time – but delaying payment will delay your Green Card.
3. Sometimes they keep the passport, sometimes they return it to the applicant.
4. As long as the principal has activated he/she does not have to be present when the derivatives enter the USA.
March 30, 2016 at 08:19
Is it possible for the principal to go in a different state and the derivtives also different state or we hve to use the same port.thanks
March 30, 2016 at 08:22
Do we hve to use the same port of entry?i mean the principal and derivtives
March 30, 2016 at 15:26
No you do not.
February 24, 2016 at 17:13
HI SIMON DO YOU THINK BY SEEING EUROP GOES CURRENT THE OTHER REGIONS SUCH AS AFRIC WILL SEE THE DV PROCESS SPEED UP THUS AFRICA WILL BE CURRENT TOO BECAUSE THE PERSONNEL THAT WAS WORKING FOR EUROP (KCC)will help others region
February 24, 2016 at 18:18
It isn’t a question of personnel really, There is enough time to process all of Africa already. The real question is the quota.
February 22, 2016 at 17:44
just got my NL2..
Good luck to all
February 22, 2016 at 14:29
dear brittsimons
i am from egypt i am not current yet maybe on may !!
since may 2015 my only seen picture in my mind is dv lottery and the dream to hv a succesful interview . yr site is giving hope to people but in the contrary some other comments and bad experience from selected people who were not succesful on their interviews are giving a very bad feedback especially for africa ! so do you think that egypt luck of succeful interviews are really low on purpose from the cairo embassy ???? thats is due to the feedback you get thru yr site ??? if u can please answer my question !!!!!
February 22, 2016 at 15:06
Cairo is very lenient. There rarely deny cases there.
February 22, 2016 at 16:51
sir yr replay was such relief to me as the expenses to get ready and thru the procedures of the interview is not low . but because i trust yr answer and opinion i ll keep going and hoping ! that i ll be one of the lucky ones to get the precious immigration visas ! wish me luck . as i wish all pf the selectees and you and family
February 22, 2016 at 04:59
Hi Guvnor Simon,my CN is the highest in AF. Is there a need for me to look for the documents like certificate of good conduct and marriage certificate? Am in a quagmire.
February 22, 2016 at 06:03
You won’t know for sure until the VB published in mid July. Once that is published, and if your number is called, you will have 6 or 7 weeks to prepare. So – you can decide what will take longer than that. Needless to say, if you do get current, you MUST get your documents ready without fail. Starting AP in September for missing documents would be the end of the line.
February 21, 2016 at 22:47
Hi Simon,
Where and when can we check the status you mentioned earlier at the top. When I sign in, I just see my case number nothing else.
tnx.
February 22, 2016 at 01:17
You should see a pop up window with your embassy code, status etc.
February 23, 2016 at 02:52
Dear Simon,
my CN is AS70xx and when I login to
https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/esc/(S(jhjy0tmhqbdortsfzo5w2wuk))/Secure/StatusCheck.aspx
I only see the general information. No pop up, etc.
Page start with:
Dear IRAJ KOOHI,
You have been randomly selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program for the fiscal year 2016 (October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016). Selection does not guarantee that you will receive a visa because the number of applicants selected is greater than the number of visas available. Please print out this letter and take it with you to your visa interview.
and ends with :
2016AS000070xx
Please send me the link if it is different.
Tnx a lot.
February 23, 2016 at 03:16
You are not current – and obviously did not get a 2NL which is why you are still seeing your 1NL.
February 21, 2016 at 05:46
Thanks . I forgot to mention i am Iranian and based on my information police records from Iran are unreliable and for immigrant visa applicants are not needed.
Here is what is mentioned in travel.state.gov :
Police records are not required for immigrant visa applicants because posts cannot verify them.
Is that true practically?
February 21, 2016 at 15:35
Yes.
February 21, 2016 at 18:53
Hi mr brit…I’m back again with this question: I’m staying out site of my country(abroad) and I got already my police certificate, what about if it get expired before my interview…
February 21, 2016 at 22:16
You should not be getting the police certs so early. You might be able to use the old one, but to be safe get a new one (nearer the interview date).
February 21, 2016 at 01:06
Hi Simon
I am living in 3rd country since 6years ago continuesly and my interview will be there.
Should i get police certificate from my mother country also or certificate from current country is enough?
I want to know how important is it (getting police certificate from my mother countrt)because i don’t have time to go there and my country embassy is to slow if i ask them and it will not be ready till my interview date.
Tnx
February 21, 2016 at 02:12
Yes you need that. You NEED to read the instructions where it would have told you that and also how to get the police report.
February 20, 2016 at 20:32
Hi Mr. Simon,
Is there lowest limit in figures to provide in providing financial & resource value in figures at step 7 of the I-134 which can increase one’s chances of not being told that the financial capacity of the sponsor isn’t adequate?
February 20, 2016 at 11:35
Too much people refused from Albania… Half of all European refused… I’m a little bit scared…
February 20, 2016 at 14:53
That embassy is strict about the education (they don’t accept some schools as general education), and hey also use odd rules for the I-134 standards. Just be very careful to comply with the instructions they send shortly before the interview.
February 20, 2016 at 16:08
Do I need to provide my sponsors bank statement? They send me http://photos.state.gov/libraries/albania/388734/documents/instr-dv-eng.pdf, and there is not mentioned , and neither sponsors payslips. I think to provide for my interview my bank statement, my issued job letter with salary, to prove that I have sufficient income to not be a public charge
February 20, 2016 at 17:31
No, you have misunderstood – it is not about your job at all. It is about the sponsors income.
Tirana are VERY picky about this. You must do exactly what is asked.
You must obtain an I-134 from your sponsor. If the sponsor is married they want a second I-134 from the spouse.
Make sure they answer question 11 with a suitable “I intend” statement. One like “I intend to provide whatever financial support is needed for as long as needed”.
Your sponsor has to provide evidence about their INCOME, not savings. That is why they ask for 1040 (which will probably be 2014) and W2 (which should be available for 2015). Payslips are good to add, and get the job letter stated also.
ALL OF THAT is required.
February 20, 2016 at 17:36
Yes I know. My sponsor has provide to me all that is mentioned in the pdf, but I was thinking to add something extra, like my income, my bank statement.
February 20, 2016 at 17:38
Your bank statement would be useful, but your income is pointless. You are leaving that job when you move to America! 🙂
February 20, 2016 at 17:45
Thank you
P.s. My income will prove that all my savings are mine, provided from my job experience 🙂
February 20, 2016 at 17:51

February 17, 2016 at 17:54
hi dear mr ,britsimon
Am not get that point. total of the ready column showing 12619 and now this is CEAC update February 16 2016 and you explained ”ready” It means the case has arrived at the embassy for interview. Sometimes a case will continue to show ready even after the interview.is this figures 12619 covers all current number till last coming April.
February 17, 2016 at 18:41
It covers all cases currently in that status.
February 17, 2016 at 17:07
Hi britsimon! Two questions: 1.Does SA get current if VB covers until 1467? 2. What are the chances to be interviewed considering my CN 2016SA131x
Thanks in advance.
February 17, 2016 at 17:11
Current is when they can meet all remaining demand – so yes – if they were able to get to 1467, they would simply announce current. Now – can they get to that number – well we can’t be sure – as to your chances – you have some chance – but again – I can’t tell exactly at this time….
February 17, 2016 at 13:28
Hello BritSimon
Im in bit confused that when i filled DS i mention my degree was completed but i got some problems with my result and i did not get my certificate so Mr.BritSimon my visa verification will be next month, i want to know how far it will affect my visa at visa interview, i have no idea what to do please kindly give me your advice.
Thank you.
February 17, 2016 at 14:38
It depends what we are talking about. If the degree is a higher degree then you might still qualify based on Elementary and secondary education.
February 17, 2016 at 12:37
Hi Brit! Ihave question.

I hope you mean can you get married. If so, yes you can do that – search my site (using the search feature above) for marriage.
February 17, 2016 at 12:11

February 17, 2016 at 14:45
The article above explains how to learn how to sort the file for that answer yourself.

February 17, 2016 at 15:35
It is very simple – just filter for KDU embassy. Try again.
February 17, 2016 at 09:07
For the NVC you have indicated 23583 what does number represent?
You have also max case number 55951 what is that number also ?
and than you have 45034 what that does that mean also ?
Thanks
February 17, 2016 at 15:34
NVC is the number of cases in that status (which is described in this article).
55951 is the highest case number that assigned in Africa.
45034 is the number of winners that were announced in Africa (including derivatives).
Much of this has been explained on my FAQ – please use that!
February 17, 2016 at 08:14
Hi brit
I have one question regarding my ds 260 form
” first am filled the form as married but later since my sponser were unwilling for me am changed that address and made my status as single by unloking the first . but now am reciving an email of the first married and the second unmarried conformation of ds 260 so by which form i will expect the 2NL? By Frist married or second single?
February 17, 2016 at 08:16
They will expect you to be married – and will ask for marriage cert. If you say you are now single they will expect death certs or divorce papers.
February 17, 2016 at 13:20
Hi mr simon brit…
Today i can see CEAC data have been updated so why till now i still at NVC? What is going on please uncle say something
February 17, 2016 at 14:41
Because you are not current. READ the article above.
February 17, 2016 at 06:21
Is there any chance to re-draw to fill the quota? I think the current selection is not enough to fill the regional quota eg. EU.
February 17, 2016 at 07:27
No I don’t think so.
February 17, 2016 at 05:45
hi brit , please can you explain me about case (i) for include familly what does means ? if you married after selection you can be in case for include familly in ceac data? thank you and excuse me for my english.
February 17, 2016 at 07:26
Including family is the number of people on each case number. The winner might be single (in which case the number will be 1), or might have a family (for examplea husband, wife and 1 child would be 3 on the file).
February 17, 2016 at 05:29
Hello Simon,
So I got my 2NL for a march interview last month, I have the medical appointment for tomorrow and I already have all the required documentations too. So basically I have everything concerning my interview under control.
However, my case number is still shown as in transit and also as of last friday, the consulate in my home country has informed me that they haven’t received my case yet.
Is that reason enough for me to start freaking out or should I just simply chill and wait for my interview date?
Thanks a bunch Simon!!
February 17, 2016 at 07:23
If you freak out, will it make anything different or better? No.
Chill and wait for the interview date.
February 17, 2016 at 05:19
Hello dear Brit , I would to ask you that .. Why Jak is stil on ready .. And Many of KDU has been issue ..and what I see there JAK was not many .. But they’re stil on ready not issue .. Who the one issue this thing Pls ??? Thank you for your time and ur reply
February 17, 2016 at 07:22
KDU (Nepal) has 3801 selectees – all with number less than 7100. JAK (Indonesia) has 126 winners spread all over the number ranges (0 to 12000). So – the answer is obvious.
February 18, 2016 at 00:32
Does 3801 selectee from Nepal distributed below 7100 or they are spread over 12000 cases?
February 18, 2016 at 01:15
Below 7100
February 17, 2016 at 04:28
Hello Brit. ¿Does the number of family members affect 4,000 visas available for SA? cases added to the family members cover the entire assigned. 1385 + 1860 I hope no because I’m 2016SA96X I am very close and i think that i can die if i do not have my interview. Thanks a lot for your help for everyone
February 17, 2016 at 05:11
There are NOT 4000 visas for SA. But relax, your number is FINE. No problem.
February 17, 2016 at 01:07
thanjs for your efforts brit.
