Communicating with KCC
Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) is the centralized department that controls the running of the DV lottery process. If you need to contact them for any reason you can do so – but please remember that time spent answering your questions is time they are not spending on processing cases (yours and others) so don’t hassle them for nothing!
KCC Contact details
Email:
Their email address is [email protected].
If you email them you need to include your full name, Full case number (like 2015AF00031999) and your date of birth in Month/Day/Year format.
Phone:
Their phone number is (+USA country code) (606) 526-7500 .
You will get a recorded message but you can bypass the message by pressing zero on your phone. This saves you from having to listen to the recorded message (unless you really want to!). Again, they will always ask your three key identifying details, name, case number and date of birth. They are mostly patient and kind – but just be aware they are human and they have good days and bad days like the rest of us…
They work between 7:30 a.m. EST to 4:00 p.m. EST The time there now can be seen here

Example emails you can send to KCC
Your emails to KCC do not need to be very wordy or over polite. Just get to the point – they are busy. Always include the case identifying information – full name, Full case number (like 20204AF00031999) and your date of birth in Month/Day/Year format.
Then just write simply what you need.
For example:
“Please unlock my DS260 so that I can make some corrections”
“Please let me know whether my DS260 has been processed”.
What do their responses mean?
KCC staff tend to use some Template/Generic emails over and over rather than typing specific responses. DV experts are asked OVER and OVER again – what do these responses mean. So – here is what they mean!
Typically people are emailing to see if their DS260 has been processed yet – and for that question you will typically get one of three answers depending on how far your forms are processed.
Stage 1. Processing
“Your forms have been received and are currently processing. Allow several weeks for processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing.”
This means your forms are still being processed. Most people are waiting around 4 months for this processing – hence what we are calling the DS260 backlog. Hopefully that will increase speed – but right now – this post explains the timelines.
Stage 2. Documents required
“The Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) has completed processing of your DS-260 Diversity Visa application form and the DS-260s of all accompanying family members.
In order to continue processing your case, you must submit electronic copies of the documents ….”
There is a more complete version of that email in this article.
So this means your DS260 is processed, and they now want you to send the documents. This is a modified process implemented from the beginning of 2019. They will not schedule the interview unless you send the documents.
Stage 3. Your documents are processed and you are ready to be scheduled.
“Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation elc.”
You want to see this email. They may only send that if you ask about the status of your case, so for some people they will simply get the 2NL without this stage 3 email.
Stage 4. Right in the middle of being scheduled
There is one more message that is quite rare. It reads:-
Your case number is now current for interview processing. Once the interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check http://www.dvlottery.state.gov. If you need to make changes to your DS-260 you should contact the consular section where you will be interviewed, or bring the information about your changes to your interview appointment. Because your case is ready to be scheduled, KCC can no longer unlock your application.
You will only get this message during the period of time when the VB has been set (announced, or about to be announced) and before you see the 2NL itself. If you see that response, just wait patiently!!
Stage 5 – the 2NL itself
You can read about that 2NL here:
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/what-does-the-2nl-look-like/
Hope that helps you – and hopefully less of you will ask what these generic messages mean. I will add any others here I can think of.

Do you bother to read anything I write? Please do.
July 11, 2019 at 11:13
Dear BritSimon,
I have fairly simple question (I hope…).
Both me and my wife applied for DV2019, separately to double our chances.
We’ve filled all necessary information w/o errors or false information.
It happens that both of us are selected for further processing (filling DS 260 form).
My question to You is, should we both fill the form separately, since we got different case numbers, or we should pick just one of us to do it.
If You can’t answer to my question, I suppose I should write to KKC and hope for a straight answer.
Thank you for your time.
July 12, 2019 at 05:42
Pick the lowest – but I hope you mean DV2020 since DV2019 is almost over.
July 12, 2019 at 06:22
Yes, You are correct. It’s DV2020. “You have been randomly selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program for the fiscal year 2020 (October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020).”
Thank you for the fast response and have a great day.

Dear Brit,
Reading through your FAQ, i saw this mail below
Stage 4. Right in the middle of being scheduled

Below are my questions?
1, does this mean we can get the 2nl without receiving the stage 4 mail?
2, can we receive both mail (stage 4 and 2nl)?
July 9, 2019 at 23:22
1. Yes
2. Yes (if you ask)

October 10, 2018 at 13:56

July 23, 2018 at 18:22
Thank you
July 8, 2018 at 12:21
If I write an occupation on ds-260 do I have to prove it in the interview, and if I don’t have the papers that prove does it effects my acceptance ??
July 8, 2018 at 14:22
If you meet the education standard they don’t ask for work proof – but I hope you did not lie.
July 9, 2018 at 06:11
No I didn’t lied about that
July 4, 2018 at 17:26
Hello Brit Simon i’m Cyrille from Cameroon.I have been checking your website since i won the dv 2018 and it has indeed been of great help for people llike me with no knowledge on it by the time we won.Thank u very much for your tremendous help.I have read the concern for AF region…my CN is 45xxx..which on a normal year will get an interview in August.I called the Kcc yesterday and they told me my case has completed processing and it will be possible for me to get an interview in September but they is no guarantee..I’m keeping the faith..I know God is in control no matter how abnormal a year is Yahweh Sabaoth uses situations like this for his glory…
July 4, 2018 at 21:07
Good luck.
July 2, 2018 at 11:32
Dear Simon
I am a DV 2019 selectee.there were three fields for name(s) in the original entry. In the family name, I entered my fourth name and in the first name I entered my first name but in the middle name I entered just my third name so I didn’t enter my second name which appear in passport…does this effects my chances and if I wanna message kcc by this issue does this explanation is clear
Regards
July 2, 2018 at 11:41
Dear Kamal
I’m Mina DV2018 selectee.
It’s doesn’t matter if you wrote your middle name or not and it will not reflect your chance by anyway.
In my application I wrote my first and last name only without middle and wrote my full name in Arabic in original entry.
Don’t worry and be calm 🙂
July 2, 2018 at 17:33
Thank u man.. Appreciate it
July 2, 2018 at 13:53
ON the DS260 enter your name correctly – and use the other names used section for other versions of your name.
July 2, 2018 at 17:32
Thank u Simon
June 26, 2018 at 21:34
Hello Simon, my girlfriend was selected on the DV 2019, we got married after the results were announce, She added me on the DS 260 already, does she have to send the scanned Marriage certificate to the KCC after or before submitting the form?
June 27, 2018 at 04:04
Before creating your DS260
July 7, 2018 at 01:09
What do you mean by before creating the ds260 form?
I’m asking because I fall in this same situation asked by Emmanuel
July 7, 2018 at 15:34
It was an either or question – so I was saying it is part of the DS260 process – NOT to send to KCC
June 23, 2018 at 14:47
I was selected in the dv 2019 but now I’m married. How can I add my spouse?

June 5, 2018 at 19:29
Wish to ask if it is possible to change the location of the interview to another country after the submission of the DS-260?
Cuz’ am actually out of my country of birth and wish it to be in this country in order to limit expences.
June 5, 2018 at 19:31
Yes that is possible – but timing can be tricky. You don’t want to do that too near the date you would be scheduled. The FAQ covers the “how”.
May 25, 2018 at 23:58

May 25, 2018 at 16:28

April 21, 2018 at 07:57
Good day Brit as per the wrong data that was entered in my form ds260,I contacted KCC so they could unlock my form yesterday Friday through an email but my doubts that I wish u to clarify are
1 – how long does it take KCC to unlock the form?
2-how do I know that my email has been received by them bcos I hear an automated message was supposed to be sent to me but I haven’t received since yesterday after I sent the email
3-bcos I was eager to see the automated message I sent the email 3 times, does this pose a problem in my case for sending an email 3 times?.that’s to say assuming the form is unlocked and i ammend the mistake on the form and resubmit, do they unlock my form even after I correct and submit thinking it’s another request for it to be unlocked since the email was sent 3 times?
4-when can I begin to worry if I haven’t received any email from them telling me my form has been unlocked
5-if they don’t unlock it after the time frame in your answer to question (4),does calling them indicate the best option then???
Thanks as always brit. always a better feeling after you answer my questions
April 21, 2018 at 14:55
Would you relax!
Wait a few days.
March 28, 2018 at 20:25

March 28, 2018 at 15:51
Wait and see.
March 23, 2018 at 15:14
Hello brit I emailed KCC with [email protected] to ask if my ds260 is processed. To know if there is anything wrong and they Reply with smt saying that “The Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) has received your email. This email address, [email protected] is for case-specific Diversity Visa inquires only. If you would like to check the status of your entry, please do so at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC. This website is the definitive means of determining whether or not you were selected for possible further processing. You must see a notice that is addressed to you by name as proof of selection to process further in the DV program.
For inquiries about specific cases, please ensure that you have included your case number, first and last name, and date of birth with your inquiry. If this information is not provided or is inaccurate, KCC will be unable to process your inquiry.” And what I wrote was this ”
Is my DS260 processed.” with out subject. What does it mean or where should I check my ds260 process.
March 23, 2018 at 18:15
That was an automated reply saying they received your email. Wait for their response.
March 23, 2018 at 18:24
Thank you for your reply and effort. Thank you.
February 12, 2018 at 18:42
Good day Mr. Brit,
Hope you are doing fantastic, Actually , I have won the 2018 DV lottery but unfortunately i have three name. ( eg, William Kelly Forson ) and when entering the lottery, the arrangement of the name got me confused so currently, the name on the DV Case doesn’t tally with the name on my documents , Kindly advise if there is any means to help out. Thank you in advance for your contribution and help.
February 12, 2018 at 18:49
The names on the DS260 are the most important to match the official documents. However, name “confusion” seems very common in Ghana, and there is commonplace fraud – so that embassy in particular is likely to refuse a case where someone was “confused”, especially if other details are confused also.
January 24, 2018 at 19:55
Good day sir or ma ,I arueyingho Francis seun won d said lottery of 2001 and was denied visa that same year since then I have working to gerther all documents needed now sir I have finished from polytechnic with diploma in accounting also BSE in human resources and personal managerment ( Lagos State University )which my case file :2003AF00002206 ,sir I will be glad if I am giving second chance. Thanks.
January 24, 2018 at 20:04
The only way to get a second chance is to enter the lottery again and win a second time. The next entry period will be in October of this year – assuming the lottery is not cancelled (which seems likely).
November 23, 2017 at 03:27
Hi Brit
If I emailed kcc to ask if my ds260 has been proceesed will consular officer at the interview know about it and see my email?
May it cause deeper questions as I will look as an unpatient person?
Thank you
November 23, 2017 at 05:06
The CO will have access to any communication sent to KCC. How your impatience is perceived – I don’t know.
November 15, 2017 at 08:12
Dear sir BritSimon greeting a lot to you: Please advice : If someone is seleteed in 2018 dv program and 2nl is not yet received so can he fillup or entry dv 2019. Thank you
November 15, 2017 at 19:11
Yes, no problem.
November 10, 2017 at 14:32
EU72XX, Ukraine
November 10, 2017 at 14:36
Great – so we know your number range is current for EU on the next VB. Thanks!
November 10, 2017 at 15:06
I have EU71XX does that mean it’s too late for me as well to open my case? (I’m getting married next week)
November 10, 2017 at 17:02
Possibly. Why on earth have you left getting married so late???
November 10, 2017 at 17:10
Tough life decisions.. I know it’s bad..
November 10, 2017 at 18:33
And what can I do? Should I contact both the embassy and KCC or will it make things worse?
November 10, 2017 at 19:38
Try and unlock. If you can’t, you will then have to wait until the embassy gets the case (about 2 weeks) and then contact them.
November 15, 2017 at 10:48
Hello again – I just wanted to let you know what the embassy in Stockholm wrote back to me after my question about adding my spouse. I’m hopeful it will go smoothly but we’ll see after the interview.
“Dear Sir,
Once you are married you will need to provide a scanned copy of the marriage certificate and a copy of the bio data page in your spouse’s passport. If you intend to get married in Sweden, you need to contact the Swedish Tax agency for the official marriage certificate. Please request an extract of the population register (Personbevis) listing your name, date of birth, marital status and the name of your spouse. If the case has already been sent to Stockholm, i.e. KCC has scheduled you for an interview, you will need to send the scanned documents directly to us ( [email protected] ). We will then add your spouse to the case and revert with instructions on how your spouse can complete the mandatory application form DS-260.
If KCC still has your case at the time of marriage, you will need to contact KCC directly for instructions on how to proceed.
Sincerely,
Immigrant Visa Unit”
November 15, 2017 at 19:14
Yep – that is exactly what I tell people….
November 10, 2017 at 14:28
Dear Simon, I have asked to unlock my form as my address changed (the same city but other street), and have reply from KCC that number current for interview processing (hope to see it in upcoming VB, EU region). Your suggestion – should i contact consular section to change it or just update info during interview? Won’t it cause any problem if i’ll do it during interview? Thank you in advance.
November 10, 2017 at 14:30
Change at interview. What is your case number range/country?
November 10, 2017 at 13:59
Hi BritSimon
I have a problem of Reviewing my DS260 and it is not going to proceed so should i contact KCC
November 10, 2017 at 14:16
What is the problem – explain more clearly.
November 10, 2017 at 20:42
I can’t proceed to the Sign and Sumbit Page and KCC unlocked my form 1 day ago so that is the probelm
November 10, 2017 at 22:57
OK – so again, that is no help at all.
October 8, 2017 at 11:26
Hi,
My roll no is 67** Asia When my interview will be conducted?
Thanks
October 8, 2017 at 14:01
Wait and see.
September 26, 2017 at 09:20
Hi to all
My case number is 95** when will beinterview?
whether to write a letter to Kentucky Consular Center when they will invite me or no ?
Thanks
September 26, 2017 at 11:55
First, your number could be in any of 3 regions – so quoting the number without the region (and year) isn’t helpful.
Second. Wait and see.
September 25, 2017 at 22:42
Sorry I’m worrying u.is it advisable to do an affidavit and attach it to my documents if the CO does not correct the mistake in my name?
September 25, 2017 at 22:46
Do I need to repeat my answer a third time?
September 25, 2017 at 22:52
Thanks.I’m most grateful
September 25, 2017 at 22:38
Thanks very much. Please how do I go about it with regards to correcting my name in the interview notification. If I should send an email, how do I go about it.I’m really nervous
September 25, 2017 at 22:41
Like I said – you cannot change it now. You can only ask to update it during the interview.
Make sure you click reply when writing a follow up question.
September 25, 2017 at 22:04
I had a typographical error in my name.instead of “Sylvester” ,it came out as “Slyvester”.on the DS260,I was asked to use de name as I have on my documents of which I did and the confirmation came out as such. But when my case was scheduled, I realized, the wrong spelling of my name I encountered was the one which was used in my interview notification email.what should I do?
September 25, 2017 at 22:12
Since your interview is now scheduled, you cannot do anything except ask the CO to correct the error in your interview.

I have wrote the wrong dates for my work experience when completing the ds260, I used twice 2015 as a year for work and one was from 2016 and I have also by mistake put a wrong number of months for my length of stay in the united states for my last stay there. I wrote KCC, but I am not sure what`s the procedure for that…will I be able to correct it? I have a higher case number so I am not yet scheduled for an interview…Thank you

Yes – you ask KCC to unlock your DS260. Check the FAQ for unlocking.

Don’t use all caps, do use punctuation and make your questions clear.
Wait for your form to be unlocked.

sorry for that Mr.BritSimon
I can’t speak English very well
My questions are :
1- Can any one who have my case number and date of birth order from KCC to unlock my DS-260?
2- How can I explain to KCC don’t accept any email from others to unlock my ds-260?

1. Yes. You shouldn’t give anyone this power!
2. You can lock the case completely – but that means even you cannot unlock it.

I’m sorry sir to disturbing you and thank you for your help
August 30, 2017 at 06:13
Sir I never had an interview in the ambassey or get a denial letter from them
August 30, 2017 at 06:22
You told me (link below) that your case was denied. You told me that same thing twice. I gave my answer based on that. You then asked me the same thing over and over. YOU CAN DECIDE WHAT TO DO. Don’t ask me anything about this subject again.

Thanks for your respond , I have added places I have worked in visa form , Do I need proof to provide proof for them too during interview or not? because for one of them I do not have a proof.and its difficult for me to get that. will it work if I only prepare copy of my contract for that duration?
August 17, 2017 at 08:19
No – they most likely won’t ask for proof.

Dear Britsimon.
I did not mention my child on first entry. I was divorced. on ds 260 also I did not mention. I want to show my divorce paper but in my divorce paper is written about child so I will make change in that divorce paper. will not embassy call my street and ask whether I have child or not? Please help me with his question. After getting green card I will promise to donate. At the moment I have so many expenses. to embassy 330 dollars and 205 for medical and ticket and pocket money.
