This is important information on how to process your DV lottery win.
DV2023 winners CONGRATULATIONS on being selected for the green card lottery DV2023.
I am BritSimon and I run a blog BritSimonSays.com. The only subject that my blog deals with is helping DV lottery winners get their green cards. I don’t charge any fees, this is not my job. My wife and I received our greencards in the DV lottery in 2014, so I have been learning and studying the DV lottery since 2013. I now use all of that experience to help people like you, and since DV2013 I have helped MANY thousands of people get their dream opportunity.
Please watch the video above which will help you understand the process. Below are some important links that you should look at.

Being on F1 my room number change every semester (from application time also it changed) will it impact my application ?
My case number is AS7XXX and for DV22 it became current in Feb, can we expect it faster this year ?
May 11, 2022 at 14:00
1. No
2. We have to wait and see. Patience.
May 12, 2022 at 03:46
Thanks for the info.
Is it beneficial to start DS260 filling asap or could I wait till October ? as I was confused between CP and AOS how will the delay in my filling impact response from KCS
May 12, 2022 at 21:26
You need to decide how you will process. If choosing AOS, then completing the DS260 is not urgent. If you decide on CP, then you should submit the DS260 soon.
May 13, 2022 at 14:37
Thanks, One more doubt I do not know any one close in US, who will give me Affidavit of Support for NVC ?
May 13, 2022 at 14:51
Well that is something you need to consider.
June 1, 2022 at 23:28
Hello . My brothers sent my ds260. I am married and have a son and my wife and my son do not go with me at this time. Do I have to send the ds260 for the wife and child as well?
June 2, 2022 at 19:48
No. Just understand that it takes a long time to bring derivatives if you do not process through the lottery.
May 11, 2022 at 07:34
Hi I’ve been trying to enter all my information like a thousand times but still nothing happened it’s saying not valid and the information am providing is correct what can i do please to know my results. If i was selected or not .Thank you
May 11, 2022 at 14:06
You are most likely mistyping some information. Use the forgot confirmation number link, and COPY your confirmation number so you don’t make a mistake.
May 11, 2022 at 10:51
Dear Simon!
Now I am selected for 2023 DV Lottery, so what shall I do or what kind process I start?
May 11, 2022 at 14:11
Did you watch the video, or read the instructions?
May 11, 2022 at 12:24
Hullo Brit
Eu13xxx
I divorced my husband in 2020 & since then I have been applying the lottery on a divorce status & b4 we were married that is 2019 & we didn’t make it on our Dv interview.
1. Can I proceed with ds260 as a single person
2. Which marital status should I put in ds260
May 11, 2022 at 14:13
1. Yes, as long as you selected divorced on the entry.
2. Divorced of course.
May 11, 2022 at 12:30
I try to check my results but it kept telling me to check my confrontation numbers well. What’s going on?

May 12, 2022 at 05:54
Hi Brit,
I was a selectee for DV2023 and my case ID is 2023AS17XXX
1) I am married and have a kid but migrating alone and my wife and kid will not be joining. Is it sufficient to fill DS260 only for my self? Do I need to notify KCC to proceed my case without the wife and kid?
2)Do I need the passport details of my wife and kid at any point of the process I am traveling alone?
May 12, 2022 at 21:47
1. Completing only your DS260 will be enough.
2. No
May 12, 2022 at 17:18
Hello! I’m a winner of Dv2023 and I just completed dhe Ds260 application and after i closed it , I noticed a question on my spouse application “other name used” and i click NO but in fact before she had her maiden surname , but now she has my last name. I thought that was a question about changing name. Now i start regretting about it. What do you think , should I reopen the Ds form to cerrect it? Thank you!
May 13, 2022 at 05:59
Yes you should correct it.
May 13, 2022 at 07:09
Hi Sir ,thanks for all what you do am the winner of dv 2023 with case number AF46×× ,my question is, my number too high? Because am afraid the may not reach up to my case number like other previous yrs help me sir.
May 13, 2022 at 13:40

May 13, 2022 at 22:12
202346×××(thousands)
May 16, 2022 at 04:26
Hi Sir my case number is AF202346XXX, my question is the case number too high ?
May 18, 2022 at 19:24
It is too early to make assumptions about case numbers.
May 23, 2022 at 19:47
1- what is the best procedure for changing the interview location?
2- can we change this from the ds260 and how?
May 24, 2022 at 12:43

2. No
May 13, 2022 at 21:12
Dear Simon, thanks for the great job that you are doing. Much appreciated. My husband just got selected for the DV2023 lottery AF16XXX. We have a few questions before completing the DS260 form:
1. Our 16 year old daughter is already in the US on an F1 Visa expiring in May 2025. Considering that the visa interview might be when she is in school and cannot come back to Africa for medicals and interview, should we leave her out of the DS260 form? If we are lucky to get an interview date, pass and get the greencard, we can apply to include her once we are in the US? Will that pose problems for her and for us? She was included in the DV lottery application form
2. Given that my husband’s number is AF 16XXX. Is this a high number for Africa? We are estimating that if we are lucky, the interview date might be late spring/early summer. Would this be correct?
3. We are Kenyans but currently live in Cote D’Ivoire. In the DS260 form, shall we indicate our Kenyan or Cote D’Ivoire address? Is there a chance that we could be interviewed in Cote D’Ivoire? If yes, what do we need to do? Would this disadvantage us? Our country of chargeability is Kenya.
4. What documents should we submit alongside the DS260 form? Does the police certificate have to be from our country of chargeability or country of current residence. When are the rest of the documents submitted?
5. When is the most appropriate time to do the medicals. After we get a visa appointment date?
6. Do we have to put in a formal visa application after the case number is current on the visa bulletin and which form is used?
Thanks very much
May 15, 2022 at 19:30
1. You should list her on your DS260s but not create a DS260 for her. You will then adjust her status once you become LPRs (although that could take 2+ years.
2. Not a high number. No predictions since we have no idea of the number of selectees, highest case number selected and so on.
3. You list you actual address and interview where you live.
4. You do not submit any documents with the DS260. But go and read the instructions.
5. Yes after the 2NL. Again, read the instructions.
6. Did you even watch the video above?
May 13, 2022 at 23:28
Hello, BritSimon,
While awaiting the slow passage of time, I’ve been going back and watching some of your less-current videos. Many are still super informative, even as many things have changed.
I was watching your video this afternoon entitled “How Are Cases Processed, By Date or Case Number” https://youtu.be/DsiUALp6nOA – and I wondered how that content might be different now that KCC is no longer (at least for now) not requesting documents – and passing that responsibility on to the consulates.
I think I have that right – if not, please correct me – so I’m wondering if any of this video’s content would be substantively different if KCC isn’t dealing with documents, but only working their way through applications. Thanks for any time you have to explain things as you understand them.
May 15, 2022 at 19:59
I just posted a detailed explanation of this here: https://britsimonsays.com/processing-update-as-of-may-2022/
That is really mostly for DV2022, for DV2023 we have to wait to see what they do about the pilot program.
May 14, 2022 at 05:56
Hello Brit, thanks for always helping out. I’ve just completed my Ds-260 form. How long should i be expecting to get the confirmation notice that it has been received?
May 15, 2022 at 20:16
Patience.
May 15, 2022 at 19:44
Simon, thank you. Let me re watch the video.
May 16, 2022 at 00:04
Hello Brit,
Any info where we can see processing times for I-485 (AOS) for DV cases ? googling it is showing generic info of 8 to 13 months not specific to DV category
May 18, 2022 at 18:55
There is not a place that tracks that, but in general, DV AOS is faster than other AOS cases.
May 16, 2022 at 07:38
Hi Brit, comment to your last live sessions
KCC is not back to the documents procedure.
Once DS260 was filled for DV2023 we can read : You do not need to submit any documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center.
May 18, 2022 at 19:42
That doesn’t signify anything. It has always said that because the DS260 is used 95% of the time by non DV cases.
May 16, 2022 at 18:25
Hey Brit my case number is 2023AS19000 (approx) is it too high for Nepal ?
May 18, 2022 at 20:17
I don’t know yet.
May 16, 2022 at 23:47
Hi, I have a question about DS-260.
I’m from Japan and living in NZ for 8 years.
There is a question “Have you traveled to any countries/regions within the last five years?” on the form.
I went back Japan for my holiday.
Is it consider as travel?
May 18, 2022 at 20:23
Yes
May 17, 2022 at 09:17
Hello, BritSimon,
Thanks for the great job that you are doing. I just got selected for the DV2023 lottery and I already fill the DS260, do you think that I have a chance with my case number EU32xxx?
thank you
May 18, 2022 at 21:28
It is too early to try and predict anything.
May 18, 2022 at 01:45
Hi Simon,
I am an Oceania 2023 winner number 1912, I have already submitted my ds260 but now realize I have to change my interview location and remove one of my derivatives as she is already 22 years and generally doesn’t qualify. I have emailed KCC to open my online form so I can make changes… Is it correct? Thank you
May 19, 2022 at 04:35
You still list the 22 year old. You just don’t create a DS260 for her.
May 18, 2022 at 16:49
Hey Simon
Thanks for your fruitful assistance .
I would like to know how long it takes to get a reopen response from kcc?
May 19, 2022 at 04:47
Varies.
May 18, 2022 at 20:20
I am from Japan and living in New Zealand since 2014.
I went back to Japan for my holiday for few times.
I am just wondering is this considering as travel or not?
May 19, 2022 at 04:56
How else would you describe it?
May 18, 2022 at 22:59
Hi Brit, looking for your help/advice. I got the “Case Information you entered does not match”, though I thought it was highly unlikely I got my birthday wrong since its not a reversible number (>12) I followed your advice and inputed 365 days of the year over the last couple days into the Verify Entrant page. All of these were rejected. I contacted KCC and their response, in summary is “tough luck”. Is there anything more I can do? It seems like an issue on their side based on my testing.
May 19, 2022 at 05:02
There is a process to follow.
Watch this carefully and do not try your DS260 until you are certain of the data.
https://youtu.be/aWeJqaSXEEM
May 19, 2022 at 07:11
Hi Brit, I followed your instructions before posting here, but no luck:
* I don’t have a unique/compound surname.
* I removed the leading zeros.
* DoB is >12 so I doubt my birthday is wrong.
* I used the “Forgotten Confirmation Number” link and entered all 365 days of my birth year from the 01/01 to 31/12.
* I even tested it from different browsers to be safe.
The only thing left is that its a KCC error OR that I got both my email and birthday wrong, which is unlikely. Happy to take any further advice or engage you if you can check this programmatically to confirm I didn’t stuff something up. Let me know. Thanks in advance.
May 19, 2022 at 10:16
Hi Brit, please ignore. Found the issue. Not only did I not use my main email address but I fat fingered by password. I can only blame my carelessness to this being my 14th application! Thank you for your video and tip on how to “fish” for my mistake!
May 19, 2022 at 18:59
Glad you figured it out.
May 19, 2022 at 06:53
My case no is AS000018***
Is this high no?
May 19, 2022 at 18:32
DV2023?
Too early to be certain.
May 19, 2022 at 18:56
Hello Brit, hope you’re quite well. How about those who apply without a valid passport, for Dv2023.
May 19, 2022 at 21:13
No problem., The passport requirement was blocked.
May 20, 2022 at 13:36
hello
i would like to know what you think might have in impact on my chances
i am dv2023 selectee and the arrangement of my name in my passport is a little different from
my school certificate. and this is how is like
passport” aaa as my surname, bbb ccc as my first name ddd as my middle name
school certificate” aaa ddd as my surname bbb ccc as my first name
i used the one in passport to apply for the lottery
how do i go about this.
thanks
May 21, 2022 at 16:19
When filing the DS260 make sure you use the correct legal name. Education certificates often don’t match that exactly, which is not a problem.
May 22, 2022 at 19:55
Hello,
Thank you BritSimon for great help.
I have already submitted ds-260 for me and my family, but i found that i have made spelling mistake of addresses, so:
1. In all ds-260forms for principal applicant and family members I input correct present address in every field where it was asked. But, at last page, it was asked “Did anyone assist you filling this application” and my family members answered ‘YES’ and indicated me as spouse and as father respectively, and there they indicated my address incorrectly (all of them in their ds-260), they misspelled only two letters of street name (street number, apt, ZIP are correct) in all their ds-260 forms. Should it be considered as minor or major problem and do I have to ask KCC to re-open my case? or do I have to just inform them about it by an e-mail?
2. We submitted my sons ds-260 we filled that he is the current student of high school, but the educational year ends just after 5 days, and he will receive General educational diploma of high school. Is my statement OK, or do I have to ask KCC to re-open the case to update the education info regarding my son?
3. We have EU case, and let me know, how fast KCC replies and re-opens the case usually?
4. Is it possible to correct such errors directly at an interview or will cause re-scheduling of interview and may it cause the DV visa missed
Thank you in advance for your reply
May 22, 2022 at 22:16
1. No need to do anything.
2. It’s OK.
3. It varies according to how full their inbox is.
4. Unlocking doesn’t cause delay, but there is no need to unlock for trivial things.
June 15, 2022 at 00:19
Hello Brit. Please I’m in my final year in the University and I was hoping you’d help me with the part on education. Should I choose “University, no degree” or “University degree” and how do I fill the part asking when I ended school?
June 18, 2022 at 16:59
University, no degree
May 25, 2022 at 09:19
Hello
i have been late to check my status, when i tried to check it know , it says “session time out” how can i check my status?
May 28, 2022 at 20:33
Be more clear.
May 26, 2022 at 16:30
Hey,
Thanks for your page, it is super helpful! I would like to ask a question about previous addresses, and criminal records. So I was doing a working holiday in Australia for almost two years. I did have a home to live for few months couple of times (and hostels etc for shorter time), but my address wasn’t registered there, and all that time my residency was at my home country (where my mail went). What is your opinion, should I put those addresses in Australia, since I spent over a year there with a visa. And shall I get my criminal records from there as well, even if I wasn’t a resident?
Thanks heaps!
June 1, 2022 at 16:45
Yes and yes
May 26, 2022 at 17:58
hello
I would like to know can i change my host address at the interview?
Thanks.
June 1, 2022 at 16:46
Yes
May 26, 2022 at 20:03
Dear Simon,
I am from Africa 2023AF16xxx. We have submitted our DS260. I have a question regarding verification of the high school certificate for my husband who is the principal applicant. We currently live in Cote D’Ivoire and scheduled the interview here but my husband got high High School Certificate from Kenya. My questions are:
1. Should the certificate be verified by the Kenyan authorities, Cote D’Ivoire or both?
2. Do I, as a derivative also need to get my high school certificate verified?
3. What about the other education certificates for Bachelors and Masters for both of us, do we need those verified as well.
Thanks
Jane
June 1, 2022 at 16:50
1. Depends on local instructions. Read those.
2. No
3. Same answer as 1
May 27, 2022 at 10:23
Hello BritSimon, am a dv 2023 selectee, please, please I asked kcc to unlock my DS 260 for corrections of which I made and submitted. I just realized that the question about where you have stayed since you turned 16, I didn’t include my husband’s high school and college residence. Will that be a problem or I will have to unlock to make the necessary changes? Please answer me.. thank you in advance
June 1, 2022 at 17:02
No need to add that.
May 27, 2022 at 18:01

Hello britsimonsays First of all, thank you for your efforts, information and advice that you provide to everyone
My question is, is it possible for a person who has American citizenship, is married, has seven family members and has an annual income of $40, can he guarantee me??
Or does the number of family members make a difference in this case???
Thanks
June 1, 2022 at 17:34
The total number of family members (yours and theirs) is used to determine how much income is needed. See here:
https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
May 30, 2022 at 21:21
Please Brit, I need answers to these questions
I’m from Africa with case # 49xxx.
About the petitioner can I
1. Choose myself and what will happen when you chose that option
2. Can I use the person I chose for the permanent US address for my green card to be delivered?
3. What will be the cost if I chose self as petitioner
June 1, 2022 at 18:28
1. DV cases don’t have a petitioner – it is yourself.
2. No
May 31, 2022 at 16:55
How are you, Simon? Thank you for your interest in our questions
I would like to know what is the possibility of changing the location of the interview to a place that you do not live in now, but rather you plan to visit it in the future for tourism or training during the interview period. That is why you want to transfer it there and what is the appropriate period for the transfer request
Thanks
June 1, 2022 at 18:33
Right now they are not keen on those sort of changes. They base the choice on where you live.
June 2, 2022 at 14:32
Thanks
So, what do you advise someone who wants to change the place of his interview, because his current meeting place is not quick to work, as it puts the condition of having a guarantor in the United States of America with the possibility of the person traveling to the place he wants to transfer to
June 3, 2022 at 11:34
What is the appropriate period for sending the interview transfer letter? Is it better to send it before or after ds260 processing?
Because after processing, according to the experiences of some, the embassy will have a relationship with accepting the transfer request
June 4, 2022 at 14:26
As early as possible.
June 8, 2022 at 21:13
How are you Simon
I have a friend who is successful in dv2023 since he received the success message he was unable to open his ds because he forgot his birthdate information.
I called the kcc, but they did not help him, they just told him to make sure that the information was entered correctly, and if he did not do what you advise him, so as not to waste his opportunity.
Thanks
June 9, 2022 at 22:42
There is no question here.
June 2, 2022 at 11:25
Hi my passport posses wrong birthday which is January 14 but my exact birthday is January 16 . I filled Ds-260 with this passport with the exact birthday what should I do? Should I change passport or request Kcc to unlock change the date
June 2, 2022 at 19:59
So your passport is inaccurate?? Correct it.
June 4, 2022 at 17:37
Hi .Brit
Thank you for the help and important advice.
I have a question regarding social media
I am an Arab and I have previously posted a picture or two of Saddam Hussein (the former president of Iraq) on Facebook. My question is, does this lead to rejection, or is it considered by KCC to be freedom of expression and there is no need to worry??
Thank you again
June 4, 2022 at 18:08
It might cause problems depending on the sentiment expressed in those posts. If you believe that SH was a decent man then perhaps America is not a great place for you to live.
June 6, 2022 at 16:14
No, I just posted a picture without adding comments. I deleted those posts when I won the lottery.
Would deleting it be positive for me? Or will they recover all deleted files? And they communicate with Facebook and other security measures??.
No, Saddam has many mistakes and policies that I do not support at all. On the other hand, he also has honorable positions for us as Arabs, that’s all there is to it.
Thank you very much I care about your opinion on this case.
June 9, 2022 at 21:41
Don’t delete anything, it looks like you are trying to cover up something.
June 10, 2022 at 15:01
There is absolutely nothing to cover it up, just two pictures of Saddam Hussein and I wish I hadn’t deleted them in the first place because I am free to post and I am also free to delete it if I wanted to delete it
Only my friend convinced me to delete it in order to avoid problems.
I know what I would answer the consul with if he asked me
Thank you
June 10, 2022 at 22:18
Yes you are free to post pictures and delete them. But getting a greencard is a privilege, not a right.
June 10, 2022 at 22:33
Good. I got it
So now that this has happened, what is likely to happen? What do you expect in this case?
June 11, 2022 at 05:27
I’m not the CO.
June 9, 2022 at 18:16
Hi Brit, does the GPA of a high school diploma matters in the DV lottery 2023 education requirement?
June 9, 2022 at 22:48
Varies by country.
June 11, 2022 at 14:27
Ok.. does matter for Ghanaians?
June 11, 2022 at 14:56
I don’t know.
June 11, 2022 at 19:25
Haha I know, forgive me, I may have bothered you but I really care what you think.
If you don’t have to worry please tell me, I’m tired of thinking about it
Thank you
June 5, 2022 at 13:37
I sent a message to kccdv to open my ds and I did not receive the Auto-reply and I believed that my message did not arrive at them and I sent a total of 5 messages, on May 18th I sent two messages they replied to me on May 26 and 27 that they opened my ds but I waited until they replied to my last message on June 1 I closed my ds260 , do my messages disturb the processing of my file my case number 2 *** and my first sending of ds was on May 12 and the last on June 1

June 9, 2022 at 18:59
Hello BritSimon, I have a friend who won the DV lottery for 2023. As for me, when I won the DV lottery for 2017, I sent my sponsor the Affidavit support document, the I-134 form to file out, and resent it back to me, and I took that to my interview, and it was accepted, and the form expired on 11/30/2018. My question is, will my friend still need a US sponsor to file an affidavit support document; if yes, what is the recent affidavit form he should use? Because I show another form called I-864, but I don’t know what to recommend to him. Please, I need your help.
Thank you in advance for answering

There is a new version of the I-134. Use that.

hello brit
I am a person with two nationalities, one of which is not recognized internationally (Western Sahara) and the other is Mauritanian. I registered in the lottery with a Sahrawi passport (which is not recognized internationally) and I was one of the successful in the lottery.
My question now is when I wanted to fill in the ds, I was confused, do I put two nationalities?? (Because one of them is not recognized) Should I fill it in with the information of the Sahrawi or Mauritanian (internationally recognized) passport??
Which do you recommend for me?? The messages received in this position??
Hope you understood my question

Use the Mauritanian one.

Hello
I am one of the winners of DV 2022.
I have a small problem:
1- After my success in the American lottery, I wanted to renew my passport, because my passport is about to expire.
After I obtained my new passport, I wanted to travel to Morocco, so I printed the visa on my old passport, as it is still valid.
Will this be a problem on the day of the interview, as I printed the visa on my old passport and I have a new one?
2- After traveling, I did not change the place of residence in Ds?
Thank you

How are you
I am divorced and father of a child
I applied for a tourist visa last year when I was married.
and I showed up at DV 2022 with the marital status, i.e. married and father of a child
But this time I am divorced and I registered for DV2023 as single because I could not add my daughter’s photo in the registration form.
My question is the following :
What do you recommend ?
Can I fix my status in DS-260
Is this one of the reasons for the refusal?

You seem very confused about everything, and you are not clear at all.

Hello BritSimon, please I made an error typing the date on my national service certificate whilst filling the DS 260.The error only affected only the day, but the month and year was correct. Will that be a problem?

Hi Brit
During my original DV entry, I used my middle name as my son last name. For example, my name is mark peter Johnson and in the original entry, I used mark Peter jr for him. Will that post problem for our case if I fill his DS 260 with the same mark Peter jr considering middle name as his last name?

No problem if you use the correct legal name for the child.
