Some years ago I wrote an article explaining the lottery draw process and why we get holes in the process. Given that DV2020 has a LOT of holes, I think this is worth revisiting – so I encourage everyone to re-read that earlier article which is here.
However, I have also had many people still not understand so I have created a video with a simple to follow example to better explain the process. Please take a few minutes to look at that…

Good day sir,can my case status changed after the med exam to ready, without bringing results from hospital? Thanks
July 20, 2019 at 21:39
Did that happen?
July 21, 2019 at 05:44
Yes sir,we have med exam and will bring answers next week, and I check my status, wich is for 4 members, and they all are ready.
July 19, 2019 at 05:35
Hi sir
There are more new visas fir As region
July 18, 2019 at 15:29
Please, Mr. Brit is a human being just like us. So let respect his time. He is not a consular officer neither does he work in Kentucky. So let try and spare him with some questions he has answered severally. Good morning Mr. Brit
July 18, 2019 at 00:17
Dear Brit, in DV2017 for Egypt, 3580 visas were issued according to the ( travel.state.gov ) & in this ( https://dvcharts.xarthisius.xyz/annual.html# ) 2230 visas were issued. May you explain it, please?
July 18, 2019 at 09:42
Give me the link for the data you are comparing (travel.state.gov)
July 18, 2019 at 15:58
https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/AnnualReports/FY2017AnnualReport/FY17AnnualReport-TableVII.pdf
July 18, 2019 at 16:21
As Xarthisius pointed out you are comparing the full year official data on the pdf with the PARTIAL year (but official) data on Xarthisius’ website – because they only started posting the monthly data that Xarthisius is presenting, after the beginning of the year. You could have figured that out by looking at the months mentioned in the chart.
July 18, 2019 at 13:42
Please note that official data for DV17 starts on March 2017, i.e. it’s lacking 5 months of data. Hence the discrepancy.
July 18, 2019 at 14:53
Wow Xarthius, you spend as much time reading this stuff as I do… thanks!
July 18, 2019 at 16:06
Xarthisius, thanks so much I noticed it
July 18, 2019 at 00:15
Dear simon,
Huge thank to you, i am one of from winners of dv2019 from AF region and current,i submitted all my required decuments and ds260 then Kcc also said as i submitted all required decuments and completed ds260.as per your information they will start to send 2nl from mid of july for september date of interview ,now still now they don’t sent any info so what should i do to know what is going on? because time is about to finish
Thank you again!!!!!!
July 18, 2019 at 09:42
2NLs go out from mid July to the end of July.
July 17, 2019 at 18:40
dear BritSimon how are you ? Do KCC can re adjust interviews which are the inquiries or cases accepted by KCC ? i expect your quick answer
thank you
July 17, 2019 at 19:56
You can do pretty much nothing from now on, I think. I’ve read all of your spam posts.
1) you submitted your ds-260 in July 2018
2) your son was born in late October 2018
3) you had interview in May 2019
Your son was born after you submitted your ds-260 form. All you had to do was write an email to KCC after your son was born, unlock your ds-260 form, and add your son. You had at least 6 months to do this until your interview. If you thought unlocking ds-260 would delay or even risk your interview date you could’ve also done it when your case was transferred from KCC to the embassy. I don’t know what you were thinking.
Please stop spamming with your posts. Spamming this blog doesn’t help you get visa.
July 18, 2019 at 09:25
No. I already told you, this is in the hands of the local embassy.
July 17, 2019 at 14:16
Hi are the 2nl for september being sent those days ?
July 17, 2019 at 14:57
Exercise some Patience
July 17, 2019 at 17:46
Patience.
July 17, 2019 at 13:24
Hi brits any update about 2nl for September interview
July 17, 2019 at 17:43
No. When there is an update I will publish it.
Patience.
July 17, 2019 at 12:45
Hi Brit.
I read on forums.immigration.com that someone with CN 1** DV2020 has been requested to send scanned documents. Do you know any other case from DV2020, as this is the first one which I saw during entire DV2020 lottery.
July 17, 2019 at 17:33
Yes a few people have reported the same. That is to be expected so at least some interviews can happen in October.
July 18, 2019 at 16:21
I am a 2020 DV selectee – received the ready for scheduling email from KCC today – I had submitted documents after completing the DS260 and they confirmed all required documents were received….so now I wait on my interview date. Thanks for your help this far…this blog is a great resource!
July 18, 2019 at 16:33
Cool!
People will ask, so – please give your region and case number range.
July 18, 2019 at 17:01
I am in North America region (Bahamas) – single digit case number….so there are not many selectees.
July 18, 2019 at 18:33
Yes, NA is so smnall I never include it in my analysis. But welcome!!
July 17, 2019 at 03:29
Hi my dear Brit . How are you . as i have told you the time is going but most local lawyers in Ethiopia says they can’t to interfere on US law to debate regarding with my case and they advised me it may be better to have a US lawyer on my case . But some one has finished her case by Ethiopian lawyer before my case . so Briton what is your advise for me
July 17, 2019 at 04:12
You know my advice. I have told you numerous times.
July 16, 2019 at 23:37
Hi Sir,
I have submitted DS260 but at the education section, at the first day of university (we don’t have it in our diploma) and i made a guess because we start the university here around 10 October. And i think i wrote 10 but i forgot to check what day was 10 October of the year that i started 🙁 (and it turns out that it is Sunday in that year)
Anyway do you think it could be ok? Or i have to correct DS260? But anyway i am not sure about the correct day
July 17, 2019 at 04:19
No problem.
July 16, 2019 at 12:54
Please sir,
from your point of view ,regarding EGYPT)what is the highest case number to be likely safe?????
July 16, 2019 at 02:33
This means all the 5586 are qualified and they will not make any qualification for them
July 15, 2019 at 20:20
Hi Mr.Britsimon, 5586 had been selected from Egypt in DV 2020. You told some people would be removed because of photo or something else. My question is, did they remove them before selection ( 5586 ) or they would remove from 5586 winners
July 16, 2019 at 01:09
The 5586 is what is left after they disqualified some people before May.
July 16, 2019 at 02:20
Thanks, this means all the 5586 has chance to get visa according to the order of the case number
July 16, 2019 at 05:42
Unless the country hits the 7% limit – which seems likely.
July 15, 2019 at 17:53
Dear sehandilruksha how can i meet or contact a particular consular again with all the documents including baby’s birth certificate, documents that to prove the delivery dates ? via email they give the same response for me . During the interview the consular was ask me the baby’s birth certificate and i was response the right answer for her and i also told i have a birth certificate of my son .
July 16, 2019 at 01:02
@Sehan. DO NOT ANSWER THIS UNLESS you have clear experience with immigration matters in Ethiopia – which I highly doubt.
July 15, 2019 at 17:41
hi BritSimon do you think the embassy reconsider or reseeing of my case and reschedule the interview ? But I coudn’t get any ethiopian lawyer that works well relating with immigration cases dear BritSimon Why i give the embassy email and try you my case as i told you the refusal is due to not adding of my son @the original entry and the reason was the infant was not born during the original entry . Because i think you are an official person and ur requet may be accepted by the US embassy .
thank you ,have a good time .
July 16, 2019 at 00:59
I cannot intervene on your behalf. I have no ability to prove that your documents are genuine. You are saying that your child was born a few days after your entry – and clearly the CO does not believe you. ONLY someone with an understanding of Ethiopian procedures and processes could know how that could be proven (if at all). You need to focus on speaking to a local lawyer, you are wasting time here, and time is not on your side.
July 15, 2019 at 17:25
Dear sehandilruksha how are you ? these are the answers of ur question
1 .Due to my newly born son was born after entry and after sending ds -260 form i don’t add on the child on my case .
2 .
A).My son’s birthday was on October 29 ,2018
B).My document submission date was July 9 ,2018
C).My Interview date was on May 13 , 2019
please my dear if you have or now any mechanism to be re seeing of my case inform it again
July 16, 2019 at 00:56
@Hamid – you STILL have not mastered the art of clicking “REPLY”. Try it – it is not difficult.
But please understand that Sehan knows next to nothing about this and cannot help you.
@Sehan – if you read this PLEASE do NOT get involved in asking people detailed questions when you have no experience nor ability to help.
July 18, 2019 at 10:35
Hi Brit,
Noted with thanks.
Actually I’m so worried about that incident. That’s why I asked some questions. Sorry for your inconveniences
July 18, 2019 at 10:30
Dear Hamid,
After your baby was born, You didn’t submitted DS-260 for the baby & you didn’t updated your & your wife DS-260 as you have a child. At least you could have inform to KCC.
However in DV2017, same incident was happened to one of my friends in Sri Lanka. He was unable to add his child before going to the interview. Finally he got Visa. But in that year there was no any documents submission procedure.
Since DV 2019, documents submission is a compulsory step, It seems to have effected for refusal your Visa
Please write/email to your embassy with mentioning your real situation. As my knowledge when you are writing to embassy please get help from some lawyer/adviser just writing the email clearly.
Taking the legally action for DV lottery process is a meaningless. Aggressive behavior is disadvantage for you.
Please don’t send any email through some lawyer. But you can get advice from lawyer for writing the particular email to your embassy. Please mention the following on your email/letter.
“I though after submission my documents no need to add my child (add DS-260) to my case. Actually I didn’t know about that. Please re-consider my situation …….”
As Simon said I’m not a expert person to give advises. I wanted to know the root cause to your situation.
Really I’m sorry for your situation. Good luck
July 18, 2019 at 14:38
I have told him to contact a lawyer. That is his only chance, and you are telling him not to use a lawyer. You don’t understand the full situation, so now you are confusing him with advice opposite to mine. That is detrimental to his chances, and makes me have to work harder. FOR THE SECOND TIME, would you just stop involving yourself in other people’s cases!
July 19, 2019 at 12:29
I’m really sorry Brit. Never do that
July 15, 2019 at 16:45
Hello Mr. BRIT, I don’t know if you remember ME, but I’m The kind of “wait and see” girl… Anyway, I have received invitation from The embassy to GO to the interview in august and they told ME to prepar bank account, properties acts and a job offer… We are a family of 3, We have 20000 USD and our own apartament valued at 50.000 euro.. Do you think IT is enough? Thank you very much for your quick answer!!!
July 16, 2019 at 00:48
Honestly – I would get an I-134 if possible. Your savings are a bit low and the apartment is not useful (not liquid).
July 15, 2019 at 16:08

July 15, 2019 at 17:06
Please only email me if it is essential to keep some info private.
britsimon3 at gmail.
July 15, 2019 at 05:25
Ok BritSimon i will try by lawyer who found in Ethiopia . but what type of lawyer any lawyer can debate my case ? if you have any experience please my dear share it for me also the time is going
July 15, 2019 at 16:37
You are correct. “Time is going” – so you need to focus and use some common sense.
Pretty obviously, I don’t know any lawyers in Ethiopia – so no need to wait for my recommendation. As for the type of lawyer – well a lawyer that handles immigration matters or has dealings with the US embassy.
July 15, 2019 at 04:04
Dear BritSimon good morning ? my sponser has get lawyer @ US Boston and he has submit my case to the judje or lawyer including birth certificate of my newly born son . so dear BritSimon which one is more preferable US or Ethiopian lawyer to win my case and to re schedule my case ? i hope your positive direction too ?
July 15, 2019 at 04:33
How many times can I say the same thing…
July 15, 2019 at 02:58
dear BritSimon the embassy is @ addis abeba , Ethiopia
July 15, 2019 at 03:45
Learn to use reply.
OK – you cannot get a lawyer in the USA – you need a lawyer in Ethiopia.
July 14, 2019 at 18:46
Hi Britsimon, I entered the DV2020 lottery in October 2018 but I wasn’t selected. Please which year can I enter again?
July 14, 2019 at 18:56
Check your entry again in October – and re-enter DV2021 in October also.
July 14, 2019 at 18:24
Hi I am from Iran my 2019 case # is different, ( 2019 6B2R1H9MQKGP) There is no AS at the beginning but 6 (what does that mean?!) Would you please advise
Thanks
July 14, 2019 at 18:55
That is NOT a case number – that is a confirmation number. That is what that means.
July 15, 2019 at 05:54
Hi Shorayy,
Are you a winner DV2019? Did you check?
If not, please check your result using the below link

July 14, 2019 at 17:03
Yes it is.
July 14, 2019 at 09:01
When are they going to play the lottery this year
July 14, 2019 at 15:06
October
July 14, 2019 at 16:52
Hi my dear BritSimon how are you ? Do my sponsor can debate my case by lawyers @ US ? Thank you
July 14, 2019 at 17:00
Reply to your own posts please.
Everything through the embassy.
July 14, 2019 at 17:44
Dear BritSimon i was emailed so many times for the embassy what i have conducted the interview but they don’y give apositive response . Here what i am to say is which one is more recommended to be a good debater regarding with my case and you recommend a local lawyer but closing to the Kentucky i think a judge who found in US is good ? because this chance was deserved for my infant ,me & spouse . so my dear i have an official birth certi.of my son and i told this for the consular during intrview time . but still now they don’t reconsider my case . Do the age of the infant is specifically know to be attend during interview ? if yes how old ? because the consu. was ask the birth date of my infant
i expect your good direction
July 14, 2019 at 18:12
Which embassy interviewed you?
July 14, 2019 at 08:14
Hi,I won the 2017 dv,I couldn’t make till the end as visa numbers were exhausted,,how did they run a second draw while the first selctees weren’t done yet?
I leave in the states and tried to do adjust of status.
July 14, 2019 at 15:05
Ahhh – yes it was DV2018 (announced in 2017)
July 14, 2019 at 07:19
My wife was the principal, we went for the interview and was denied. The reason stated was that my wife was not having vocational qualification mean while my wife is a rotation nurse. The interview date was 4th December, 2018 but our immigration lawyer petitioned the home embassy in February 2019 but couldn’t head anything till now.
Is it possible we can can still make it
July 14, 2019 at 15:04
There is time, but really if they have not agreed after all these months it is not looking good. It cannot continue past September 30th.
July 14, 2019 at 04:32
Hi Simon wha is the highest case number that has been selected for Africa in the first draw Dv 2020 Thanks
July 14, 2019 at 04:53
You have asked this three times today, and I already answered.
July 14, 2019 at 12:41
hi dear BritSimon i am hamid and i am the winner of dv 2019 but during interview due my infant was born after entry and was not added the consular officer refused visas of me ,my spouse and my newly born infant . so what you advised me to appeal this ? my infant has birth certificate also the consular know it
July 14, 2019 at 13:19
hi my dear BritSimon the reason of not adding of my infant was due to lac of information about adding after entry or after fill and send ds-260 to the kcc . so BritSimon what do you help me to issue my visa
? becaue i was give 100% a perfect evidence for the consular but due to my infant was not add the consu. refused visa but as i have said my newly born child was born after entry i.e during the original entry my wife was pregnant . so my dear regarding with me i am ready to give any medical examination including DNA from me , my spouse and our son . also you can check its age just from any federal or regional vital events agency . I am still angry by this decision because the visa it is deserved for my infant , spouse and me ( the principal applicant ) . this chance may be come due to the bearing of my son . but me the pricipal applicant was trying this lottery more than 10 years . I hope i will hear your positive direction to issue visa of 2019 .
July 14, 2019 at 15:12
I don’t see what else you can do. There is no appeal process. Maybe a local lawyer would have some influence on the case.
July 15, 2019 at 05:43
Dear Hamid,
I’m sorry about your situation.
01. Did you submit DS-260 (including details of the son’s passport) that related to your son before the interview?
02. Can you tell the following dates?
A).son’s birthday
B).Your document submission date
C).Interview date
It’s better to meet that particular consular again with all the documents including baby’s birth certificate, documents that to prove the delivery dates.
Don’t give up your chance. Best of luck
July 14, 2019 at 15:11
You already asked, and I already answered. From what you are saying, They clearly don’t trust your documents.
July 14, 2019 at 03:08

July 13, 2019 at 23:06
Hi Brit,
It’s my first time to read this article and im gonna take a look at your former one.
I’m a Doctor from Sudan, but have born in Saudi Arabia. I’ve tried for 3 years now and still didn’t picked up.
Any advice regarding the applying? Deos it better to apply as originally from Sudan or I’ve to keep the country where I’ve born?
My birth certificate from Saudi Arabia but I carry Sudanese passport.
July 13, 2019 at 23:37
Keep trying – but for sure, use the country where you were born.
July 13, 2019 at 21:49
Am from Kenyan, I applied for greencard last year 2019 until now I have been checking the status but no positive feedback, is there any chance of winning or its lost by now?
July 13, 2019 at 23:26
Were you selected and submitted the DS260, or do you mean you wondered if additional winners were added?
July 13, 2019 at 20:59
Are they going to release another results on September?
July 13, 2019 at 23:24
Wow – this question is coming up a lot…. so…
https://youtu.be/sAOZz0dhk-o
July 13, 2019 at 19:53
Please are they going to do another draw?
July 13, 2019 at 20:07
Maybe.
July 13, 2019 at 22:39
I tried to enter DV lottery many time but didn’t selected, I’m from lebanon. Please advise
July 13, 2019 at 23:36
It’s a lottery. Many people enter, few get selected. Selection is RANDOM.
July 15, 2019 at 08:48
Hi Ghaleb,
I am from Lebanon too and got selected in DV2019. There is no magic formula. The whole thing is random as Simon mentioned. Keep trying each year and you might get lucky and be selected.
All the best!
July 13, 2019 at 18:27
Hello dear
My brother 21 years old won dv 2019. The interview was on May 3 2019. He went to the interview with bank statement like 9000 usd. The co asked him you said your plan in the USA is to study, so who will help you .my brother told to co first year he will work then he will study after one year work. But the co disqualified him. Then we sent the document to the embassy with sponsor affidavit of I 134. Then the embassy replied by email we refused you already and we did not ask any document. So what can we do? He has some money about 9000 usd and sponsor of affidavit and full document and good medical result. What can you advice us. Thank you
July 13, 2019 at 19:41
There is probably nothing he can do. If the embassy don’t want to reconsider him, there is no formal appeal process. He was unwise to attend the interview without the I-134 – and that error has probably cost him the Green Card. This is why I tell people to overprepare, and why I tell people to remove risk.
July 13, 2019 at 13:22
Hi Brit!
I’m a Ghanaian, i have tried this lottery for more than 3-4 years, and im still not winning ,please can you help with this, and have been trying this lottery from different personnel every year
July 13, 2019 at 17:16
Ghana has nearly 2 million entries, and less than 1200 cases from Ghana were selected – so your chances of winning are very small.
July 13, 2019 at 22:17
I was born in Saudi Arabia but I am Indian citizen what is the chances of winning lottery
July 13, 2019 at 23:28
You can enter under SA. Your chances are about once in one hundred years.
July 13, 2019 at 09:41
Hi Brit,
Please what documents will they require when going for the interview (that is in case of a single person without any derivative). Also, is the Secondary School Certificate a basic requirement and what cut-off grades is required?
In the circumstances where there are fails in your grades, can it result in your visa refusal?
Thank you.
July 13, 2019 at 17:07
1. Read the instructions for list of documents.
2. The requirements vary by country – and I do not track all the countries. You need to have the education required to enter University.
3. Yes you can be denied if you do not meet the requirement.
July 13, 2019 at 08:58
Hello Brit… so sad.. i dont win the Dv lottery 2020.
I really want to get the lottery. Do you think is there any way for me to get the chance?
July 13, 2019 at 17:03
Keep entering – maybe you will get picked one day…
July 13, 2019 at 07:22
Hi Brit!
I have a question. If there will be a second draw, wouldn’t that effect people with high case numbers? I have case number EU26XXX but my friend’s case is EU55XXX. Yesterday we were talking about your second draw probability and this question came to us. If there is another draw in October, what would the case numbers of the new selectees be? I mean the new selectees will have CN like EU60XXX or fill in the holes you were talking about and have cases like 14XXX?
July 13, 2019 at 15:01
2nd draw would start from the highest numbers in the first draw.
July 13, 2019 at 01:41
Hi my guest i am winn.dv 2019 but consu. disquali.visa due to my son was not added but my son bon aft enty . so what you advise me ?
July 13, 2019 at 02:49
They must suspect you are lying – but surely you have proof such as official birth cert and passport for the child??
July 13, 2019 at 01:19

No. You were unwise to try to change the appointment and now the year as past so there is nothing that anyone can do.

Hi Brit!
please I was interviewed on the 4th of April 2019. The co told me the embassy will call me. I checked my case and was on administrative processing. After 60 days I emailed the embassy and i was told to wait for 90 days. My case was updated on 27th of June but still on administrative processing. It’s 90 days now. Please any advice

All you can do is wait. Do you have any idea what they are checking?

Thy will ask you for more info more docs even thy have like returns transcript pics of u and your wife call records and westerunion or any other proof that u and her money for expenses etc then u will have to wait more but they wont ask for these docs at once they will ask u separate so thy can take some time which mean it wont happen so fast
