Hi Mr. Simon,
My question is on the Work, Education and Training section of the DS260.
I attended high school and got a diploma. After that I joined a university studied a few years and dropped out. After I left the university I have worked freelance for sometime (usually home tutoring students) before I became a legal proxy for my family’s business which I’m still working at fulltime. How should I write this information down, the form doesn’t have a place for such information? Keep in mind that our country doesn’t require a work permit or tax documentation for afterschool home tutoring and I can’t provide government documents for my freelance work.
How many institutes should I put in, in the section that follows 1 or 2 for the question “number of Educational Institutes Attended?
While I was working in the family business, I was also part of an incubation program, would the overlap of the timing cause any problem?
Thank you for your help

I’m not sure what questions you are asking here.
Enter your education and work experience. Don’t overthink it, just answer the questions.
May 26, 2021 at 07:17
What will happen if you don’t add all emails in ds form?
May 27, 2021 at 05:17
Why try and find out. Add an email.
July 27, 2021 at 02:49
Hello, good night!
I was selected for dv 2022 case sa21xx. I already sent ds 260, but I still don’t receive kcc mail to send documents. how long will it take to request that information by mail, depending on my case number, and your experience is a high or low case number, and I’m able to get an interview. thank you
July 27, 2021 at 06:01
Send your documents.
Too early to know how DV2022 will go.
May 27, 2021 at 14:43
1. Do you think people with case no. 2022AS00020*** has chance to be interviewed?
2. Submitting the ds260 in July instead of May will affect my case?
May 28, 2021 at 02:39
1. I don’t know – it is too early to know.
2. No
May 27, 2021 at 18:31

May 28, 2021 at 02:43
Use your own judgement.
May 28, 2021 at 03:11
Mr, Simon
I would like to thank you for your time and sharing your expertise with us.
I have a confusing regarding the address and location of the interview. Th address given in DV 2022 on October 10 2020 was India as per the passport.
Now In Canada on work permit in March 2021, So which address should I mention and location for the Interview in DS 260 form?
since many embassies are not open in Asian countries Can I select Canada as present address and choice of interview
What about Canada Police clearance certificate? Indian police clearance certificate is needed.
God bless you
May 28, 2021 at 19:59
If you are now residing in Canada you should give your current address in the DS260 – that will determine the location of the interview.
For police certs and so on you must read and follow the instructions.

Hello
Thank you in advance for all your efforts to help us.
1-I was presumed born in 1977, short order 07/12/1981; how do I write my date on the DS260? Because I only have the year 1977, no days no months.
2-Do I have to mention all my emails and my nicknames for all the sites.
3-For the DS260, once the page has been saved, it can be modified later, knowing that the registration has not yet been validated, no submited to KCC
Thanks for all.
May 30, 2021 at 21:06
1. If your DOB is uncertain choose January 1 of that year.
2. Do the best you can.
3. Yes
June 1, 2021 at 12:27
Hi!
My case number is 2021OC00007XX
I submitted initial documents and info in October 2020 and I haven’t heard anything yet about further documents to send.
1. Would it be best to email KCC?
2. If so, what would be the best thing to ask?
Thanks so much.
June 3, 2021 at 04:50
I’m not clear on what you sent in October. You should have sent your documents without being asked. I have been saying that for MONTHS.
You can try that now and see if it works, but you are at risk.

June 5, 2021 at 13:22
Hi Simon,
I am referring to the initial DS260. This is all I have submitted. And haven’t received an email from KCC asking for anything else.
Would you still recommend emailing my further documents from this link?
Thanks.
June 5, 2021 at 15:14
You have left this very late – and possibly too late, but it cannot cause any further harm to send the documents and see if they can process your documents in time.
June 2, 2021 at 16:15
Hi
I am been selected on DV2022. really grateful your FAQ and any guide.
Could you please made the guide above into some portability format such like PDF or just plain text on the blog.
It’s not easy to read document on that website during reading it will slide and animation are annoying.
June 3, 2021 at 03:23
Hi,
I have been selected for DV lottery (AS000085xx), 2022. My husband submitted I-140 in December 2020. He was also planning to submit I-485 (concurrent filing with I-140 receipt notice) soon including me as a derivative. However, after selected for the lottery we are thinking about which one to chose. We also have another problem as our OPT extension (EAD) will expire on June 2022. Could you please advise us whether it is possible to submit I-485 for DV lottery if I submit a separate I-485 for NIW (I-140). Thank you!
June 3, 2021 at 18:33
No problem
June 5, 2021 at 11:19
Good day Mr Britsimon,
I got selected for dv2022 and my case number is 2022AF00046*** although I am from Africa but I live in Asia.
1. Do I stand a chance for interview as my case number is very high
2. I live in Taiwan is my location going to have any effect in my process because I believe their will be less applicants here.
Thank you for your time and help
June 5, 2021 at 15:10
1. Maybe. In a normal year that number would not be too bad.
2. No impact.
June 8, 2021 at 09:48
Hi Brit i was selected for DV2022. I have already submitted my DS-260. Heard you say in a live youtube interaction that selectees can go ahead and submit their documents without KCC asking for it. What informs this advise please? Wont folks be risking/complicating their processing by doing so?
June 8, 2021 at 23:13
DV2021 cases had no choice. For DV2022 you can wait to be asked if you prefer, but clearly this is a major pain point as many people are now realizing.
June 9, 2021 at 12:34
Hi Britsimon,
I’m a DV2021 selectee and I’ve been wary with continuing with the process. However, I just changed my mind but worried if it’s too late. Is a June DS-260 and document submission too late? Should I even bother? Does that mean I have to send all my documents at once?
Would love to hear your take.
Thanks!
June 10, 2021 at 05:08
Too late.
June 9, 2021 at 13:29
Hello sir , I have submitted my DS260 and I’m now waiting for a reply from KCC so as to submit my supporting documents and my case number is 2022AF18xxx . I wanted to know when I will have an interview .
June 10, 2021 at 05:11
It will be months yet. Patience.
June 10, 2021 at 13:16
Dear Brit
I am contacting you to kindly ask the criteria for KCC to review my application and schedule for an interview. Is it based on numerical order (i.e. Case Number) or country of current residence or country of birth? I was born in South America but currently living in Australia from where I sent my application. Thank you in advance. Regards.
June 10, 2021 at 14:37
Case number is the most important thing.
June 10, 2021 at 14:53
Sir i have one more question , I want to know about the Police Certificate , my question is , do I have to provide a Police Certificate for all the Regions i lived in when i turned 16 or just one Police Certificate from my country of Nationality ?
June 14, 2021 at 18:10
You are absolutely right, the AS region does go up to 30k. I am 2022AS30XXX, and I feel kinda hopeless.. it’s so far back for my region . But watching your videos and reading your blogs really helps . Thank you!
June 15, 2021 at 14:12
Dear Sir
1. I am a winner for DV2022 with case number AF155XX on Ethiopia. do you think that I have a chance to get interviewed with this higher number.
2. I have completed feeling DS-260 form including my family but I didn’t send any document so far so when shall I send my document to KCC or shall I wait until they requested me.
June 16, 2021 at 04:18
1. That is a low number.
2. Wait for a few weeks at least.
June 16, 2021 at 14:35
I am 2022AS3***. I had applied for UAE Police report. They ask me To whom they should quote the letter to, so told them to ” US Department of State”.
Instead They write a letter mentioning ” issued to : Us Department of State”.
1. Will that be valid if they quote ” US Department of State” ? or it will be US Embassy or Immigration or To Whom it may Concern.
2. They mistyped the spelling of US. Eg: Insted of writing “US Department of State: , they wrote “Us Department of State”, s letter is small. Will this mistake be ok or i need to request to make new report?
Thanks Brit in advance
June 16, 2021 at 15:53
Overthinking.
June 18, 2021 at 15:05
Sorry But I could take your ans as will be “OK”.
And more question:
1: Does this UAE police report which is got from dubai police online, need to to stamped or verified by UAE Ministry of Foreing Affairs.
2: I am still residing in UAE, is it early that i requested my police report before KCC asked me for it. Does it matter to KCC ?
June 19, 2021 at 19:58
Follow the instructions on the reciprocity page. It has everything you need.
June 17, 2021 at 07:20
Hi Simon,
Many thanks for your valuable information and support.
I’m DV 2021 winner but my case is not scheduled for an interview at this stage.
I have the following questions:
1. We got a new baby just last week. Should we notify the KCC about the family change? It will take us 2 or 3 months to get a new passport the new child.
2. In the DS260 I indicated that my family will immigrate to USA with me. Due to family circumstance, we have changed the plan that my family would not like to move to USA at least in the next 2/3 years. What should I do if I scheduled for an interview?
Your response is always appreciated!
Mame
June 17, 2021 at 22:33
Given the little remaining time for DV2021 interviews AND the fact that you won’t want to take your baby with you I would (unusually) recommend you do not update your DS260 at this time. Do it instead at the interview.
June 19, 2021 at 02:56
Hi Simon,
Thanks for all what you been doing. I have a quick question on after the submission of DS260 how long does it usually take for KCC to ask for the documents? i submitted mine 4 weeks ago and have note received any email from KCC. My number is 24XX in Oceania region. Any help appreciated.
Thanks again mate.
June 19, 2021 at 20:28
DV2022? In that case your number is fairly high and they won’t rush to process your case.
June 20, 2021 at 01:02
Thanks for the honest response.
Cheers.

If you do not plan to take them as part of the DV process you don’t complete a DS260 for them and won’t need their passports.

Ok sir
Thanks !

June 27, 2021 at 12:40
Dear Mr. Simon,
For DV2021:
My case number is AS14184 and I still have not received the interview date email yet. I have submitted all required documents.

In my country police certificate is only valid for 90 days, hence, should I have to wait until KCC request it and then get it or should I get it now, what if by the time KCC requests it and be expired already?
Is it true that KCC keeping and extending it up for 2 years valid?

July 2, 2021 at 14:27
Sorry to overtype your wrong name Brit Simon,
July 3, 2021 at 16:03
2 years.
July 5, 2021 at 13:47
Hi Simon,
I got the 2NL and my interview has been scheduled for August.
I have some concern that needs your personal advice.
1. If I decide to immigrate to USA alone at this time, how long the process will take for my family to join me?
2. I have a decent job here and I want to honor my contract. Is it possible to move to USA for a shorter time period to get the residence permit and social security card, and come back home to honor my work contract (maybe less that a year)?
Your advice, as usual, is highly appreciated!
Cheers!
July 5, 2021 at 14:40
1. About 2 years, maybe a bit longer.
3. Yes.
Both questions could be answered by reading the FAQ.
July 6, 2021 at 17:27
Hello Mr Brit,
i have a concern. I am DV2021 my file number is 74k, I filled my DS260 in January and submitted my documents in February with those of my wife and my child.
since I filled in the ds260 and sent my documents, I have not received anything from the kcc, I have only received automatic messages.
So I would like to know if there will be people who will receive their letter without a first letter or you have to receive the first letter first before receiving the second? because so far I have not received anything like message or notification coming from the KCC.
I am very worried and since the fiscal year is almost over.
Please locate me.
Thank you .
July 7, 2021 at 01:45
You have almost no chance of getting an interview. The lawsuits is your only chance.
July 9, 2021 at 21:16
One of the people registered in the lottery 2022 and put his data recorded in his passport, and his date of birth was 1/2/1996
After reviewing his documents, it was found that the date of his birth with the Basic Education Certificate, the General Secondary Certificate and the University Certificate is 1/1/1996
He wants to fill out the ds260 form
What is the appropriate solution?
Does he modify the passport to match the rest of the documents?
What is the impact of changing the passport number and date of birth when filling out the ds260 form?
Or does he modify his date of birth with the aforementioned documents to match the data that has been included and become available and documented by the Kentucky Center
July 10, 2021 at 18:01
Date of birth is established by the birth certificate.
July 11, 2021 at 21:53
Good afternoon Mr. Brit. I am a winner of the 2022 visa lottery from Venezuela and my interview would be in Colombia. I am pregnant, and I would like to know several things please.
1. I am pregnant, and my baby is born on November 26, can I fill out the DS-260 soon or do I have to wait for my baby to be born? Taking into account that it takes a little longer to obtain a baby’s passport here in Venezuela, I suppose that if they give me the appointment, by that date it would be more likely to obtain the passport.
2. The extensions of my passport, my husband and my 9-year-old daughter, are ready in the Capital but I have not been able to look for it until within a month that I can travel because of my pregnancy, I must wait to have the extensions to have the dates of expiration date and thus be able to fill out the Ds-260?
3. My case number in 2022SA25xx, do I have the opportunity to get an appointment with that number or is it too high?
Thank you.!
July 13, 2021 at 05:02
1. I would submit the DS260 soon, nd then unlock and add the child once born.
2. No
3. It is too early to know.
July 11, 2021 at 23:05
Hi Simon,
GOH, case #18***. I submitted my documents in January and received an Automatic reply that KCC has received my email and is currently processing my documents. No any other messages from the KCC since then. Could they have lost the documents? Should I submit them again?
July 13, 2021 at 00:58
You don’t say your region, but if it is AS then your number is quite high and they might not have got to your documents.
July 16, 2021 at 11:24

Hi Simon,
My interview has been scheduled for mid-August. We got a new baby after the interview has been scheduled. I have informed the US consulate (where I will attend my interview) that I will attain the interview with the newborn baby. Although we applied a passport for him, it will not be ready at the time of the interview date. My concern is that:
1. Will the other family members be denied the visa on the ground that the baby does not have a passport?
2. Is it possible to request a second appointment for the baby if the passport is ready before September 30?
What will be the most likely scenario and what is your best personal advice, ?
Thanks so much!
July 18, 2021 at 03:54
1. No
2. You will have to discuss with the embassy.

July 17, 2021 at 22:21
Hi, Simon.
Thanks for all your help.
I got selected in DV-2022 with a case number SA17XX, I submitted DS-260 on June 8. I received the automatic reply with my confirmation page. Until now I have not received any email asking for sending my documents. However, when I enter to check my case status in CEAC and, then I enter my immigration visa case number it says “Invalid Immigration Visa Case Number”. Sorry to ask, but is that even normal? Is there anything that I can do?
July 17, 2021 at 22:31
Hi
The ceac for dv2022 will be available from January 1 2022….hope that helps
July 18, 2021 at 05:22
Remove the leading zeros to check CEAC.

Hir. Simon,
I have been scheduled for the diversity visa interview in mid of September at US Consulate in Mumbai, India and the “prepare for visa interview” refers to visit the consulate page for further details and any additional information.
As I reviewed the US consulate Mumbai page, the first requirement is to book an online biometric appointment registration via ustraveldocs followed by medical examination.
I am confused if a separate biometric appointment registration is required for DV visa interview or if this is not applicable for diversity visa.
I called up the consulate several times during which they asked me to put up email inquiry on this. I emailed them now over two times and they simply reply sharing the same DV page link of the “preparing for the interview”.
I request your guidance on this if biometric appointments are to be separately applied and carried out before the DV visa interview.
August 2, 2021 at 04:34
Not a biometric, no.
You do have a medical prior to the interview – you arrange it according to their directions.

I submitted my DS260 in early June 2021
My CN is AF30***
I have 2 questions
1. I put on my highest educational level that I have High school no degree (by mistake), should I ask for DS260 to be reopened or wait and tell the CO?
2. My current employer and employment status changed, should I ask KCC to reopen my DS260 or wait and tell the CO?
thanks ????

Update both at the interview.

Hello sir,
I trust you are doing good. Please will the lawsuit affect dv2022 selectees?
August 12, 2021 at 22:50
Maybe. If the lawsuit wins, there may be additional DV2021 work to be done while DV2022 cases are being processed.

The CO asked for the police cert, so regardless of what the instructions say you must supply that. Get on with it. Yes of course you could still be refused – there is no guarantee until the visa is in your hands.

Hi Brisimon,
I am a DV2021 selectee. I have a question about doing AOS. I am now in the US with tourist visa and been staying for 2 months already.
I am wondering if there is any chances I can change my status here since all cases become current now. However, my case status is yet at NVC and a lot of DV 2021 selectees in Thailand have not received 2NL and interview confirmation.
Therefore, I would like to know if I could process the case by adjusting my status in the US. Should I contact KCC about my AOS first and then wait for their confirmation if I am eligible to do this or can I make a payment, $330 for AOS first ?
Looking forward to hear from you soon
Thank you so much!

It’s probably too late to start AOS, but you could try. Best source of AOS info is here: https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2021-aos-only.342993

Dear Mr. Simon;
I was wondering if you could make a video explaining the process for a DV lottery applicant who needs to apply for an adjustment of status? I hope you will find the time to grant my request. Thank you

There is a good guide at the link below. The first post has a link to a spreadsheet with all the info you need.

Hi Brit, thanks for your help and info. DV2022OC4xx here (i have asked something before as well), my derivatives’ passport expired recently and DS260 was submitted in May with the old passport details. the passport has been renewed since than. As we approach mid August, do you think its wise that we request to unlock of DS260 to update her passport details now considering they may not respond soon and with a low case number, we may get delayed? Note we have not received any further instructions yet (understand DV2021 is priority at the moment as it approaches its year end)
await your thoughts please

No need for that. But do send in old and new passports when you send documents, and send documents without waiting to be asked.

Bula Brit, taking your advice, i went to get the police clearance but was told i need to show email request from kcc first before getting the clearance… not sure if this is always the case or if the initial email confirmation (receipt of ds 260) is sufficient? getting bit worried in terms of delay.

Hello BritSimon, I’m DV2022 selectee and my passport which I used at the entry level will expire in October. However, I’ve renewed it and that, I sent an unlock request early July to get my DS260 updated with the renewed passport.
1. Please when sending documents to KCC, should I attach a note explaining the changes which has occurred with regards to my passports?
2. What is a brief sample note to explain the above?

Hi Brit, I am a selectee for DV2021- AS30K , Received the email confirming my documents were received to KCC.I am working in a different country to eligible country and my interview Embassy is in an another country (There is no US embassy where I work) and I have to apply visa to go interviewing country. Kindly clarify below for me. Thank you very much in advance;
1) Do you have any idea as to how long will it take to receive interview confirmation email – I only received document received confirmation from KCC today. ( So that I can adjust the dates for applying visa to interviewing country)
2) Is there any document that must come through the person in USA (I meant the person whose details were entered to DS260 to receive my Green Card there in USA)
3) My wife is pregnant and expecting the baby in next month. Do we have to go to the interview with any doctors’ letter or something additional ? We filled DS-260 only for my wife and me as the child is still unborn.

Your case needs the preservation of visas. Without that, you have no chance, so wait.
August 20, 2021 at 09:38
Hi Brit, I think, I could be more specified about the email I referred to. I didn’t mean the automatic email we receive after submitting documents to KCC. There was an email from KCC saying “Congratulations! Our records indicate that your case is ready to be scheduled for an interview “

Dear Simon,
I have just attained my interview for DV2021without having passport for our youngest child. At the end of the interview, the officer told me that he can not make a decision in my application at this stage and he asked me to send them my child’s passport when it is ready. He also told me that I have to do it as soon as possible otherwise my application could be expired by the end of September.
I am a bit confused that he even congratulates me and everything is okay except that he cannot issue the visas without a passport for my child.
My question to you is that does the officer mean that my application for my youngest child will not be processed after the end of September. Or does he mean that nobody will get the visa unless we have presented a passport for our child?
What is your thoughts on that?
Thanks gain for your information!
August 20, 2021 at 04:27
I don’t know – but just get the passport!
August 20, 2021 at 13:58
Of course that is the best solution. However, there is still uncertainty whether the passport will be ready before September 30.
IF the passport will not be ready in the next three or four weeks, due you think that it is a good idea to write an email to the Visa Officer to inform that I can move into the State and my family can join me later due to the passport. What should I say to the officer? My concern is that if I did not inform them they might not even re-activate my visa application and September 30 is in the corner.
Thank you so much again!
