As I write this, it is around 2 hours before the DV2018 draw results are available on the website. So – I just want to make some points to those people are to check.
- The website to check the results is https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/.
- The checking starts at noon in the time zone for the Eastern United States. That will be evening time in EU and Africa for example.
- The servers are always overwhelmed for the first few hours – to avoid frustration – check tomorrow.
- If you have not been selected, you will see a simple message that says “not selected”.
- If you are “selected” you will see a letter explaining the selection. If you see that – you are lucky enough to have been selected – but that does not guarantee you a Green Card at this point. You have to go through some steps and the process will take between 6 to 18 months. So get ready to exercise some patience!
- If you are selected, don’t fill your DS260 in for the first few days. Take your time and learn about how to do this. I have a guide on completing the DS260 and also a guide of how the DV cases are processed.
Good luck to all!

Me too getting same error , I applied 2 one didnt get pick up and another one with same issue .” Warning: The information entered is not valid”
May 3, 2017 at 03:51
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2018-information-entered-not-valid/
May 3, 2017 at 03:56
Hi Brit, here is what its wrote in the Instruction of DV 2018 Application “Entrant photograph(s) – Recent photographs (taken within the last six months) of yourself, your spouse, and all your children. See Submitting a Digital Photograph for compositional and technical specifications. You do not need to include a photograph for a spouse or child who is already a U.S. citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident, but you will not be penalized if you do.
We cannot accept group photographs; you must submit a photograph for each individual. Your entry may be disqualified or your visa application refused if the photographs have been manipulated in any way, or do not meet the specifications explained below. Submitting the same photograph that was submitted with last year’s entry (DV-2017) will result in disqualification. See Submitting a Digital Photograph for more information.”
So if you used an old photo, you are disqualified.
May 3, 2017 at 04:19
Yes – ****OBVIOUSLY*** I know that! But that is not why the system is not letting some people check.
May 3, 2017 at 03:54
Hi, I also had the same “Warning: The information entered is not valid”
I did the copy and paste but that did not work. I also tried the “forgot confirmation number” and that said that the information is invalid, indicating that the entry was not in the system.
All very strange. Its the first time its happened to me. I also submitted 4 other household entries and they all checked OK, albeit with a “not successful” result. Its just mine thats the issue.
I have sent an email to [email protected]
I wont hold my breath.
May 3, 2017 at 04:07
BTW, my photos were 1 week old when submitted
May 3, 2017 at 04:17
Thank you. I am certain photos is not the problem.
May 3, 2017 at 04:21
That’s interesting. So – you can switch from another “not selected” entry, then check yours – and consistently you get the glitch????
May 3, 2017 at 07:21
Thats correct. The fact that the confirmation number is not valid when requested might indicate a database issue. I have written to the US Embassy in Australia with a screenshot of my initial successful entry for comment.
May 3, 2017 at 10:36
Please write an update if you hear back from KCC
May 3, 2017 at 04:08

May 3, 2017 at 04:16

May 3, 2017 at 09:03
Hola!
I have heard that not all the results come out at once. is that true? or if it says you’re not selected it wont change?
May 3, 2017 at 15:10
This year it probably won’t change.
May 3, 2017 at 10:23
Hey simon. I’m not selected but is it possible that they make a 2nd draw? If yes, when do they announce it?
May 3, 2017 at 14:46
I doubt it, this year.
May 3, 2017 at 12:48
hi brit, is there any positive news about the result?
May 3, 2017 at 13:38
Hi Brit i am a 2017 DV winner and have filled the DS 260 visa form since 28th April and tried to submit but uptill now i have difficulty to submit. when ever i try to submit after imputing my case number, date of birth and other relevant info they will sen me message in red saying that i should check my case number again and resend. but it is the same in formations i used to access the DS 260.
1. Can you tell me where the problem lies
2. has the dead line for submitting DS 260 for 2017 DV winners reached
help me i am worried
May 3, 2017 at 14:32
To access you DSS260 you use the confirmation number. The case number is different – it is the one like 2017AF00001234
May 3, 2017 at 17:04
Hello, I just checked the results and it says I was not selected, but I applied through USAFIS, I called them and they told me that every single day up until September 2018 the lottery adds more winners, is that true??? How does that work???
May 3, 2017 at 17:24
No it is not true. They are idiots. Why are you paying them???
May 3, 2017 at 23:51
Hi there. Are all selcted already or still more to come
May 3, 2017 at 23:54
All are selected – BUT some cannot see that they are selected or not.
May 4, 2017 at 02:29
Just got the not selected result. I’m a bit confused as the message said “based on the information provided”, the application was not selected to proceed. Does this mean there was something I did wrong (photo’s etc) or does simply mean I was selected etc. Eitherway, I’m still really disappointed and dv2019 can’t come soon enough.
May 4, 2017 at 02:36
Opps, meant to write ‘not selected’ instead of selected.
May 4, 2017 at 02:56
It means either not selected – or selected and then disqualified.
May 4, 2017 at 10:00
Good morning mates, please is there any single winner of dv 2018 who used the same passport pic of the dv 2017 entry ?
May 4, 2017 at 10:36
Hello brit I was selected on dv 2018 I want to know if I fill the ds 260 sent how long will take to my interview
My case number 2018AS000020**
Thanks ?
May 4, 2017 at 13:30
This is a LONG process – it will be late 2017 or early 2018
May 4, 2017 at 14:11
Hi BritSimon !!!!
I can not see my result. When I enter my confirmation number, my name and my date of birth, I am told that I am mistaken about this information. However, in order not to be mistaken I sent my page of confirmation number in my electronic box. And I am not alone in this case. My wife and four of my friends also and may be other people in the world. What should we understand by that?
May 4, 2017 at 14:40
That it WAS broken and is NOW fixed. Check again.
May 4, 2017 at 15:07

May 4, 2017 at 18:35
Hi there, After that I am selected for DV Lottery 2018 I`ve a few questions:
1. Should I first Confirm my qualifications or fill the DS260 application form.
2. Is It Ok If my SVP Range is (6.0 to < 7.0).
3. If I get married should i add my Husbands surame too?
4. I`ve noticed that I wrote my fathers name as middle name when I applied months ago… Is that a big problem?
May 4, 2017 at 18:45
1. Check first.
2. No – so you would need to pass on education.
3. Yes
4. Make sure you name is correct on the DS260. If it is – you would normally be OK.
May 4, 2017 at 19:14
I dint get selected, there is any possibility for getting selected
May 4, 2017 at 19:20
Almost certainly not.
May 5, 2017 at 17:27
Hi, your blog has been very informative to some of us who are new to the DV stuff. I have been able to gain so much from your blog. I just have one worry in mind, Will all the results for DV 2018, released all at once or monthly? Thanks for your time
May 5, 2017 at 17:34
All at once (May 2). In some years there is a second draw around September – BUT I don’t think that will happen this year.
May 5, 2017 at 17:28
I am nog selected is there a second draw only GOD KNOWS I may winñnnnnnn
May 7, 2017 at 06:59

Hi Simon,
I have been selected, and my CN: 2018AF000100XX
1- Will I get 2nd Letter to interview?/When this may happen?/what time to go be interview?
2- My husband and I, have a plan to deliver our baby around 12-Oct-2017 in Canada, it is better to move to the USA to deliver our baby their instead of Canada? (i.e. will this increase our chance to get DV-Visa as we became parents of American infant?)
May 7, 2017 at 14:10
1. Maybe around December
2. No that would not increase your chances.
May 8, 2017 at 07:22
I have been selected for DV2018. My case number is AF15XXX & Ds 260 application has been submitted on the 6th. Is it a safe number? Thank you

May 8, 2017 at 09:29
Hi BRIT
i submitted my DS-260 form.
in DS-260 form there was a question that Number of Educational Institutions Attended
i set that 1 because i thought that they mean number of educational institutions after secondary school.
Now because first i finished school and then i attended University so it should be 2.
is this a problem? if yes what should i do and how to edit the form please show me the way what to do
Thanks a lot!

May 9, 2017 at 00:34
Thank you
May 9, 2017 at 03:27
Sorry BRIT
is that problem worth to unlock my form or not
please share me your idea is that a problem?
thanks
May 9, 2017 at 04:37
Why do you think I provided a link about unlocking….
May 8, 2017 at 20:54
Please advice. In Oct 2008 I was out of Usa under J1 after I overstayed for 3yrs. Its stated on the web that I might have 10yrs ban. I have a low case number Eu00004***, do you suggest filling out Ds-260 later or rescheduling interview for 6 months later in May? 10yrs expires in Oct 2018, what are my chances?
May 9, 2017 at 00:02
That ban expiry date is too late for you. Your only chance is if they agree to waive the ban – but with an overstay of 3 years (!!) they could obviously decide you aren’t prepared to abide by immigration law, so why should they give you the Green Card.
May 9, 2017 at 08:14
Thanks for clearing that out. Do you know how the waiver works. Am I supposed to ask for it before the interview and who should I contact? Do you have any idea what could increase my chances? What would you do? Thanks for taking your time!
May 9, 2017 at 14:06
You ask the CO in the interview.
May 9, 2017 at 14:21
I sicerely appreciate your help and the fact that you are here for us. All the best to you and your family!!!
May 9, 2017 at 00:55
Hi Simon
Today I had my interview in English and I am worry if I had a misunderstanding or not.
I was checking all the documents that the Official Consular gave me after the interview:
– One of them is The Foreign Service Of the United States Of America Refusal Worksheet, But I do not understand what this document means. I remember that the Consular Officer told me that don’t worry, you don’t need to paid anything, all your documents are ok, only we have a conflict with your last F1 Visa. The Consular Officer mark me a paragraph which say: “ Section 221 (g) which prohibits the issuance of a visa to anyone whose application does not comply with the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act or Regulations issued pursuant thereto. The following remarks apply in your case:*
(221g to resolve SEVIS in system) the text between () are write in bold letters.
At the finish of the letter * Warning: If you fail to take the action requested within one year following visa denial under section 221(G) of the immigration and nationality act, section 223 (G) of the Act requires that your application be cancelled.
These letter is signed by the consular Officer.
Could you explain me what happened, please?
It is possible that this will delay the delivery of my passport?
– The other is document is the UCSIS Immigrant Fee, it is complete with my Alien Registration Number and my DOS case ID. The paper said Congratulations! You are approved to Inmigrate to the United States, You next step is to pay the $220 Ucsis Immigrant Fee…
These letter is NOT signed by the consular Officer.
We talked with the CO that the date to travel is before 18th October and my idea is to travel in September.
I know that recommend to pay before to travel, but when? In September is ok, or now? What do you recommend?
Could you said me if I could celebrate or not?
If you prefer I could sent you by email a copy of the documents.
Thanks for your help.
May 9, 2017 at 04:44
Celebrate when the visa is in your hand. The 221(g) is a temporary refusal while they sort something out – in your case it is a technicality with SEVIS – one of the systems they use. It’s probably nothing to worry about.
Pay later (just before travel).
May 9, 2017 at 08:58
Thanks Simon.
1- Have you ever seen or read about the same situation with Sevis?
2- The Visa Immigrant application is now under “Administrative Processing”. Is it possibly to receive my passport, between 60-120 days?
3- Is it normal that they give me a paper with Ucsis Fee instruction, with my Alien Registration Number and my DOS case ID?.
Thanks again.
May 9, 2017 at 14:04
1. No – but so what. Relax!
2. Probably
3. Yes
May 9, 2017 at 10:00
Hi Brit, my interview is going to be at the begning of the next Month , i just noticed that there is a spelling mistake on my wife middle name ,Her name consist of 6 names there is an extra ‘H’ letter in one of them ex:Abdallah instead of Abdalla.
Do you think this going to be a problem?
May 9, 2017 at 13:58
So you presumably wrote it incorrectly in the DV entry but correct in the DS260 – if so – no problem.
May 10, 2017 at 01:17
Hi, do you think EU000326xx will have a chance for interview? Thanks.
May 10, 2017 at 01:41
2018?
Yes
May 16, 2017 at 01:57
Hi Brit,
I was selected in DV-2015 wand submitted the DS260 but didn’t make it due to my case number 2015AS000135xx.
I didn’t win DV-2017 and just checked DV-2018 and it said not selected.
I thought because I won before but was not selected my chances would be higher in the next draws, was my assumption correct?
What are my chances in the future?
May 16, 2017 at 02:42
No your assumption is not correct. You have the same chance as anyone else.
August 3, 2017 at 17:55
Hi Mark,
What country are you from?
May 16, 2017 at 11:01
i’ve been not selected in this may so any opportunity later or in the 2end draw or i must wait to dv 2019
May 16, 2017 at 17:05
Try Dv2019
May 19, 2017 at 01:05
Why are you so convinced that there won’t be a second drawing this year, as opposed to last year? Did something happen that makes it obvious that what happened last time won’t happen again? I’m clinging onto every last bit of hope at this point, and I know the best would be to just get over it, but it’s still sad to hear you say that.
May 19, 2017 at 03:07
They draw more selectees in years when the 1st draw is a low number of selectees. This year is not a low number.
June 1, 2017 at 13:26
I think there is a second draw when the a lot of the selectees don’t complete the process, those are people that maybe doesn’t have the money, the complete papers, or something else that doesn’t allow them to get the residence.
That happens.
June 1, 2017 at 14:07
No, it is what I said. At the time of the second draw (in years when it happens) it is too soon to know how many people won’t complete the process since it is done before the processing for that year even starts.
May 25, 2017 at 19:35
Hello brit
Do you think that my number is relevant for this year?
2018SA12xxx
Thanks
May 25, 2017 at 20:04
SA12XXX doesn’t exist. Are you AS region???
May 26, 2017 at 00:57
Opps Yes 🙂

May 26, 2017 at 21:18

May 26, 2017 at 04:20
Hi brit, i am very cofused….I emailed the Embassy in ethiopia. If i fill i-864 or i-34 for DV applicants and I had also emailed you at the same time. Your advise was i-34 but the following is what they replay today…….” be aware that Affidavit Of Support(I-134) is not required for DV applicants. More information is available on https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/diversity-visa/interview/prepare-for-the-interview.html
May 31, 2017 at 13:13
Great work to u BritSimon, keep it up. I wanna know when was/is the socond draw after 2nd May, 2017. Thank you.
May 31, 2017 at 13:29

Hi Brit, thanks for making us to understand. (1)My cn is 2018AF000046xx and I submitted the DS 260 form on 11th of July. I want to know if their is possibility for October interview.(2) I played single but I have an eight years old daughter but not married and i didn’t include her and I really want her to live with me in the USA, please advise me on that
August 3, 2017 at 18:43
1. No – you submitted late so your interview would be delayed.
2. So you lied on the entry form – and then continued that lie on the DS260. But now you want the USA to ignore the fact that you lied (which is immigration fraud) and let you take your daughter to the USA??? No – that cannot happen. Read this https://britsimonsays.com/easiest-way-to-get-disqualified-from-dv-lottery/
August 8, 2017 at 13:02
Please, possibly when for interview because I live where I don’t have full access to the internet

August 14, 2017 at 23:04
Hi Brit,
My birth date in my education document is different from that of filled in DV application form, does this would be the problem?
August 14, 2017 at 23:08
Normally not, unless there is some suspicion of fraud.
August 14, 2017 at 23:11
Thank you!
August 25, 2017 at 20:30
Hello again, I hold SSN that I received in 2005 through W&T program. I need help answering the question in DS-260 Do you need a new card issued? Yes or No? Thanks for still being here for us!
August 25, 2017 at 21:56
Answer No. You will keep the old number. You can get a new card once you are a resident.
August 26, 2017 at 14:39
Thanx, that’s exactly why I was confused… I understand the number is for a lifetime, but the question asks about the card itself and I will need one since the original is with some limit. Best regards,
September 3, 2017 at 14:37
Hi Brit, when is 2019 open to fill
September 3, 2017 at 14:38
