For those just being selected, you may not yet fully understand the importance of your case number. Your number is specific to your region, each region starting from 1. So there is an 2019AF1, 2019AS1, 2019EU1 and so on. The regions go up to different maximum numbers, with 1 being the lowest in each region. The number dictates when you will be interviewed, low numbers are interviewed before high numbers. Whether your number is high or low is relative within a region to the highest numbers in that region – so it is helpful in these early days to start getting an idea of what case numbers are out there.
So – please report your case number as a reply to this thread. Give your number in slightly hidden format – ignoring the leading zeros, and hiding the last 2 or 3 digits. So case number 2019AF000012345 would be shown as 2019AF12XXX. SA and OC regions have lower ranges, so just hide the last two digits – so 2019OC000001234 becomes 2019OC12XX. Always quote your number that way on public forums.
Please also give your country you are charged to (typically country of birth).

Greetings Mr Brits my case no is AF201933xxx I have not yet received any email, I change my email address when filling my ds260 form is there any problem
April 29, 2019 at 08:06
Dear Brits,
My case number is DV2019 AS140xx
I received an email to provide scanned supporting document two weeks ago and I provided as instruction one week ago.
Do you know when do people expect to receive confirmation email from KCC?
Thank you
April 29, 2019 at 12:30
That email is not important to the process. and probably only sent when you ask for status.
May 1, 2019 at 09:04
Hi brit, i have finally received 2NL, i have a question….. my wife is planning to travel home(out of country) for 2 weeks before interview… so the police clearance certificate to be renewed I believe, but we already submitted the previous certificates to Kentucky! Is it ok to bring both of them or we have to notify or do we have cancel the trip??
May 1, 2019 at 14:20
A short trip doesn’t usually require renewal of the police cert.
May 1, 2019 at 14:27
how about medical check up is it good to do after the trip or before is acceptable?
May 1, 2019 at 14:44
There is no connection between those two things.
May 8, 2019 at 11:02
My relative case number for dv 2020 is 2020AF59XXX, does she get a chance? Country is Egypt (which often has its own bulletin)
May 8, 2019 at 17:15
Wow – Egypt at 59XXX – in a normal year that would be a VERY high number. It is too early to know about this year.
May 8, 2019 at 19:00
Hello, my friend’s case number is 2020EU51XXX, country Armenia. Does this mean almost no chance?
May 8, 2019 at 22:32
Possibly – but it is too soon to know anything.

Hi, EU 36000 for dv2020 , do you think thats a very high number? what would be the chances?
May 8, 2019 at 22:41
It is too early to know for sure. In a few weeks and months we will know more, but this is a LONG process – so no need to know everything today. Please look at the lottery guide linked above, read the FAQ, and hold off submitting your DS260 for now until you understand more.
May 8, 2019 at 20:09
How about AF33XXX, is it too high?
May 8, 2019 at 22:52
That’s probably not a bad number, but it is too early to know for sure. In a few weeks and months we will know more, but this is a LONG process – so no need to know everything today. Please look at the lottery guide linked above, read the FAQ, and hold off submitting your DS260 for now until you understand more.
May 8, 2019 at 23:54
Thanks a lot, this is what I have been told as well.
I’m working on DS260 now and have 2 concerns:
1 – I have to mention an address in the USA where I want the green card to be sent but I have no address (no family or friends in the USA). So I will put “Not known for now” but I’m affraid the system will disqualify me autoatically
2 – I need to select “Yes” or “No” on whether or not I got my vaccines based on the list USA defined. I got them all but have no proof, what I can say?
May 8, 2019 at 23:56
You should stop filling out the ds260 and read my guide. There is a link to help you complete the ds260. You do not need to rush to submit it.
May 9, 2019 at 00:14
I went through it now and it looks very helpful. Thank you for that.
Can you please tell me how I can read the tab in this link: https://britsimonsays.com/historical-visa-bulletin-numbers/
Let’s take cell C14 as an example that shows 25775, what does this number mean for September 2018?
May 9, 2019 at 00:18
That was the cutoff for that year. No case number of 25775 or above was eligible to get an interview.
May 8, 2019 at 20:22
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2020AF72XXX – from Egypt – do i have any chances?
May 8, 2019 at 22:54
That is the highest number I have seen in AF region, and as it is Egypt (which is normally limited at a low number) I am surprised. However, it is too early to know for sure. In a few weeks and months we will know more, but this is a LONG process – so no need to know everything today. Please look at the lottery guide linked above, read the FAQ, and hold off submitting your DS260 for now until you understand more.
May 8, 2019 at 22:09
Hi,
I’ve an issue with my first submission of dv lottery 2020 where I had put my sir name instead of last name under last name on the form. Will it cause a refusal??Thanks in advance
May 8, 2019 at 22:12
And I have got selected for further processing.
May 8, 2019 at 23:11
Surname and lastname are the same thing. You might not have made a mistake. However, the most important thing is to get the name correct in the DS260 – and when people do that there is normally not a problem.
May 8, 2019 at 23:10
Have you been selected?
May 9, 2019 at 21:22
Yes!
May 8, 2019 at 22:15
Also another question,I applied for Dv lottery 2020 when I was in my home country but I recently left my country for higher studies and I wanna know which address I should put on DS260 under present address?should it be the address of my home country or where I’m studying now? Thanks
May 8, 2019 at 23:26
Your PRESENT address. Today.
May 9, 2019 at 20:47

May 9, 2019 at 22:13
That is a DV2020 number – right? It is very high. It is too early to know for sure. In a few weeks and months we will know more, but this is a LONG process – so no need to know everything today. Please look at the lottery guide linked above, read the FAQ, and hold off submitting your DS260 for now until you understand more.

May 9, 2019 at 23:22
You have asked a lot of questions today – often repeated. Enough for now – you need to read the wealth of info I have created on this site and then ask only pertinent questions. You have around 1 year to wait – so no need to ask everything today.

Based on dv 2019 ,,, kcc has made the biggest mistake …… For dv 2019 probably will not be given 50000 visas because of the new procedure and the number of very few selected …… Kcc for dv decided to double the number of the selected … The goal is to issue 50000 visas …… This is a big mistake by the kcc … WHY ?? Because now people will fit “” with the new procedure “” “We will see a very large response rate compared to dv 2019 …. The new procedure is not so new” “…. Numbers big will be difficult … My opinion … This year I have seen in Albania Eu region cn 51500 … very much big
May 8, 2019 at 23:43
Do you understand the flood yet?

All numbers can be interviewed. You need to read the FAQ now. The questions you are asking are all answered there and you have AT LEAST a year to wait. Please take some time to read the FAQ and the wealth of info I have produced which is relevant to your understanding.

Hi Brit,
Thank you so much for that splendid informative content!
My case number is 2020AFxxx406xx, i know it is still early to say for sure whatsoever as to having or chance or not but just based on your past prediciton, do you think that i stand a chance for being called ?
Thanks in advance
May 9, 2019 at 02:36
I have no idea because I do not know how many cases are in front of your number.
In a few weeks and months we will know more, but this is a LONG process – so no need to know everything today. Please look at the lottery guide linked above, read the FAQ, and hold off submitting your DS260 for now until you understand more.
May 9, 2019 at 12:03
Logically speaking, are there 40 000 before me or there are hmany oles among those numbers ?
May 9, 2019 at 12:12
Many holes. How many, I don’t know.
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2020-entrants-and-winners-please-read-this/
May 9, 2019 at 02:43
Hi Brit,
I appreciate your help. I have read most of your posts to get my head around it.
For DV 2020 my number is OC22XX from Australia, which seems quite high.
I have seen in your previous graph from 2013 Australia had 1035 selected and 710 won a visa
another post you said it is ‘safe’ if you are under OC1300 and the highest you had seen was OC2600
Can you give any educated advice with my number? You would think there would be a low chance of me being interviewed in the first half of 2020?
May 9, 2019 at 04:50
Explanation here. Your number may have no chance at all but it is too soon to be certain.
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2020-entrants-and-winners-please-read-this/
May 9, 2019 at 06:45
Thanks can you confirm the highest OC case number you have experienced to ever get an interview?
May 9, 2019 at 06:49
You’re missing the point. It’s not the number, it’s the holes or how many people are before you. But by normal standards your number is far too high.
May 9, 2019 at 07:06
Thanks I read the theory of holes. I’m just checking if historically holes follow a trend at all? If they do have there ever been enough holes or low number of derivatives that interviews have indeed been offered to those above OC2200
May 9, 2019 at 11:26
No. I keep saying that. Your only chance would be some new process that had disqualified MUCH more frequently than before.
May 11, 2019 at 01:34
Hi T
I also got the same number OC20XX. As we both know not many people from Aus or NZ apply for DVlottery. There maybe lot of holes. Let’s wait and see. Do some research b4 deciding to move. US benefit and pension/hourly rate is way lower then ours. And not forgetting their expensive medical system. Children born there don’t even get government help. Unlike in aus, benefit for everything lol. Do some research b4 filling out that DS260 mate.

Hello Sir my case number is 2020AS00022XXX from AFghanistan, Is it good chance to make an interview and what is probably after how many months if yes, And sorry sir I’m disturbing you because my case is a little complicated I mentioned my wife nick name instead of actual name will it cause for rejection purpuse because in passport its real name is there due to this confusion I have not filled the DS-260 form your. help will be highly appreciated and thanks for the time which you give us to guide in proper way.
May 12, 2019 at 13:33
Why the hell would you write a nickname in an offcial application? Jeez. When you complete your DS260 use her official name and list the nickname in the “other names” field.
Your number is high, you have a long time to wait. Read the article below and learn about the process.

Thank you so much SIR. can I fill the DS260 form after 3 to 4 months because I was living as a refugee in Pakistan for decades now have to go back there to get pcc and also have to translate the required documents which takes some times and Sir due to my mistake of my wife name will our case rejects rest requiremnt is ok as I have done my graduation in engineering also have some international cisco certificates.
May 12, 2019 at 17:25
You should certainly not fill the DS260 in any sooner than that. Your number is high.

May 12, 2019 at 21:16
So 3 days ago I thought I was lucky. Now I see my number is the highest in here for Asia, it’s 29xxx
So, chances are pretty much 0. And probably they selected 200,000 people this year considering the high numbers. Great.
May 12, 2019 at 22:12
So my number is AS29xxx which is the highest I’ve seen in here for Asis… Great, that means they selected 200,000 people and my chances are basically 0.
Even in 2014 when they selected a record of 141K, only 23,000 were selected from Asia. Even considering the holes it seems like I’m among the last numbers.
3 days ago I was extatic. Now I wanna cry. FML
Can I re-apply for DV-2021 or do I have to wait till DV-2022?
May 13, 2019 at 01:47
You can apply for DV2021.
May 13, 2019 at 16:13
When are the statistics of selectees usually published (how many total selectees etc.)?
Do you think there’s a chance that they WAY over picked selectees? Because the numbers I see here are crazy high and that just seems odd that they would suddenly pick 150k selectees. (I read your thoughts about it, I’m just wondering if you don’t think it’s a bit TOO high to be explained by over picking…)
I saw your calculations of maximum numbers in 2018, you estimated AS to be around 15,000 (reported 13,000). My case number is two times higher than this and I just find it a bit hard to believe that they picked double the people from this region or any region…. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, I don’t know…
May 13, 2019 at 17:35
I think it is more likely than not that they overselected. There is one other explanation (more holes through additional pre announcement screening measures), but it would would NOT be a shock to see them massively overselect. They have done it before (without warning or logic). We have seen 140k selection years. Of course there could be a combination of the two factors I mentioned.
In reality we can spend days and weeks discussing this – but we will only be sure when we see the selectee numbers. We can use those numbers as a gut reaction, and to some extent we will be able to calculate the likely percentage of holes.
May 13, 2019 at 18:00
And when do these numbers usually become available?
May 13, 2019 at 18:20

Hello, Brit. I am from Lithuania. My case number is 2020EU495XX.
As I noticed it is very high number and understand that there are no chances of being interviewed at all. I had a conversation with an immigration lawyer here in my country and he told me that with this number nobody have ever won yet a green card or being interviewed. I just wanted your personal opinion or word for me about my number, please. I have read all your articles about it, but if it is not too difficult to answer me it would be very greatfull! Thanks!

It is too early to know for sure. Yes it is very high, but that is not the point, and someone like your lawyer that makes a “final judgement” at this point doesn’t understand what they are talking about. It is about how many cases are in front of you, not what number you have. I am certainly NOT saying you are safe or not safe, I am saying it is too soon for ANYONE to know.

And another question: Is there any problems if I submit the DS-260 form even if I have very low chance to get interviewed?

May 13, 2019 at 14:20
Another question please, if you found out that you have made a mistake on your name when filling the DS-260 how can you change it when you have already submitted your application?
May 13, 2019 at 15:50
You have to ask KCC to unlock. Read the FAQ.

May 14, 2019 at 11:13

However, i still cannot expect an interview in july? Ou 2Nl will not be sent in June?

July interview notifications will be sent out in the next two weeks to cases that were before some date processed earlier this month. You were too late for that, so you must wait.

Thank you Simon for being helpful to everyone.
Firstly, I kindly ask you to clarify following, as you are expert in this field, other than your main profession:
There are two various sources with different data with regards to statistics of diversity immigrant visa winners.
– In one source, (https://www.dhs.gov/immigration-statistics/yearbook/2017/table10), for Europe 11.367 visa have been granted through diversity visa
-In another source, 20,516 visa have been granted through diversity visa for Europe region (https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/AnnualReports/FY2017AnnualReport/FY17AnnualReport-TableVII.pdf0.
Which one is correct in estimation of potential visa limit for DV2020.
Secondly, if second source is the one which can be referred to, then I observed some tendency in period of 2008-2017. After sustainable (and even increasing number of visas each year) 3 years, sudden drop in total visa issuance in Europe happens. In 2012, sudden drop from 16,378 to 13,093 and in 2016 sudden drop from 19,811 to 15,207. If this regularity will be followed, then, DV2020 is under threat. Is it correct, in your point of view?
I know, off course nobody can guess now, but at least based on theory, can you see such threat.
Thirdly, I expect this year case numbers are very high compare to previous years. Is it possible that, total selectee number of DV22020 is less than DV2018 and at the same time, maximum case number of DV2020 is higher than DV2018.
Thank you Simon,
My wonder is due to; our case number is 2020EU45xxx
May 14, 2019 at 13:53
Both the sources are probably correct, but you are looking for an answer in the wrong place. Your number is high, but for now we don’t know how high, and looking at visas issued from previous years won’t give you an answer. You simply have to wait. ONce we know the selectee numbers for the year we will know better.
