OK – it’s that time of year again – we are two hours in to the results process and history is repeating in some obvious ways.
- First, the servers are overwhelmed with people checking. The site is crashing. This will get better in a day or two. So – try again later.
- Next, people are having session timeout problems. If this is your problem, close ALL your browser windows, start a session with one window only. If that doesn’t work, try a different browser client (like Firefox, chrome or whatever).
- Make sure you are entering the right details. This post will help.
- Some people are just realizing the entry period was restarted. There was a technical problem in early October. The entry period was restarted and any entry from before the restart is not valid. They sent emails to people to warn people to enter again. The restart was from October 18 – so make sure your entry was not from before that date.
- If you have forgotten your confirmation code – use the lost confirmation link on the ESC page. There is no other way to retrieve your confirmation code.
- I am aware of people that have been selected. So – the system appears to be working at this point, apart from being busy.
Also – people often ask “will there be a second draw” or “should I keep checking”. In some years, they select a low number of people in the first draw and “top it up” with a second draw in September/October. I don’t know whether that will happen this year or not. So – check again in late October.
For those selected – please DO NOT rush to submit your DS260. There is no need to do that and no advantage doing that. Take your time to make sure you understand the process.

March 5, 2019 at 1:00 am
Yep. Winning the lottery is not a plan. But for those selected it’s the easiest way to get a Green Card…
March 5, 2019 at 1:22 am
@teklemariam. It is NOT impossible. I perserved and never gave up. Since 1999 when it was still paper-based application until 2017 while married when wife got pre-selected and and today we are permanent residents to the U.S via The DvLottery . Had my faith and never had a negative outlook on this. furthermore we had lived in the States as International students and as Dvlottery winners. we see a major difference living here as Permanent residents.

thanks………………………
March 5, 2019 at 1:26 am
@JM I would like to say thanks verey much for your moral support ……..
March 12, 2019 at 8:57 am
Dvlottery winning is almost considered as nano thickness (.000000001) chance per one person per country which is disappointing game even if i love america more than every one love………………………………………………………………….
March 12, 2019 at 12:53 pm
Why make up silly numbers? The chance of selection varies by region, and is around 1 in 200 in Africa.
March 14, 2019 at 9:04 am
BritSimon, it is not 1 in 200 in Africa. The minimum ratio is that 1 in 2000 because every your for instance in our country which is Ethiopia around 7000000 entrant are available but the maximum number which are being selected per year are 2890-3000.So, mathematically this is almost impossible.
March 14, 2019 at 6:55 pm
No. You should leave the math to me. The chance of selection is the same by region. However, there are several “limited” countries in AF which have the same chance of selection, but then winners are limited. at some point. However, your numbers are incorrect – 2018 had 787,000 entries from Ethiopia (not 7 million) so – according to your 1 in 2000 number there would only be 400 Ethiopian winning cases (plus derivatives).

I have couple questions. “I’m a Congolese from Democratic Republic of Congo/Kinshasa. I am married customarily and religiously but not yet civilly with my Congolese wife since 2018 in Democratic Republic of Congo/Kinshasa. We have a year old daughter born in India in july 2018 and we are currently staying in India.
Questions:
1. Is there any chance for us to win?
2. And in case we win, would there be any complications to our groom status during the interview?
October 4, 2019 at 11:21 pm
1. Yes
2. Probably not.
October 5, 2019 at 5:28 am
Thanks so much boss. Last question:
“Like I said, we are Congolese (Democratic Republic of Congo) and Since April 2018 we are staying in India with my family (Congolese)”.
Q/: Is it a good idea to mention India as a resident country?
May God bless you.
October 5, 2019 at 2:04 pm
Good idea???
You tell the truth.
October 5, 2019 at 8:11 am
Another couple questions. “I’m a Congolese (Democratic Republic of Congo-eligible) but I still staying in India (Ineligible Country) today with my family.”
Q/: 1. About the mailing address and phone number. Since I’m still in india, which mailing address and phone number should I fill up, my native country address or my indian address? (I don’t have a native country phone No.)
Q/: 2. After been selected in DV-Lottery while being in India that day, should I take my DV-Lottery ID number to the United States Embassy in India to apply from India or I’ve to go back to my native country and Apply there only?
