We have many DV2020 selectees with very basic questions. Let me try and address the most frequent ones here in the hope that people will read this. If you ask a question and I give you a link to this page, it is to indicate that your question can be answered by reading this page and using some common sense. Please use the links in the title at the top of this page for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and the DV lottery guide. There is LOTS of information available on my site – so a look through the FAQ and guide will take care of most questions.
Please read the ground rules at the bottom of this page.
Current Status of the ESC page
For the first few days each year the performance of the system is bad. Too many people are checking, the site gets overwhelmed and crashes. As of today, it seems to be behaving better most of the time – BUT it could still crash or be sluggish.
The site is accurately providing results. It is not broken for basic checking. However, the “Forgot Confirmation Number link is broken. It takes your info and bounces back to the start when you submit. So – if you have not got your details from the entry last year, you will have to wait until they fix that functionality. I have NO IDEA when that will be. You have to just wait. I have received MANY requests to recover confirmation codes for people, I have NO WAY of doing that, so your emails are being ignored.
Next, as usual, I have already had many people who swear they have followed instructions and the system won’t find their result. Every single case I have been sent so far that I have check I was able to get the result first time. That means people are not paying attention. The most common ways are entering the whole name (not just the lastname before the comma), or they mix up letters/numbers in the confirmation code. The system prompts people about the latter, but people ignore that, and assume the system is broken. It is not broken. YOU are making a mistake. The links below will help both with the checking AND with accessing the DS260 for winners.
However, I do want to urge people to NOT rush to fill out the DS260. There is no advantage to rushing, and many of you can actually cause yourself a problem by submitting a DS260 without thinking it through. So – wait. Read below and take your time.
Here are two links to help those still not able to check their entry:
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/checking-esc-page-check-without-mistakes/
And here is a video to explain how to check your entry result.
And for those that cannot submit their DS260
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/ds260-case-number-doesnt-match-case-number/
And those that cannot access their DS260 because of invalid immigrant case number message click this link
Now – some questions.
Is there a deadline to submit my DS260?
There is no official deadline to submit your DS260. People will continue to submit DS260s for DV2019 cases well into 2020. Submissions as late as April, May or perhaps even June of next year will still get processed in time.
How long does it take to process the DS260?
The way DS260’s are processed was changed for DV2018. In addition there was a change to the process at the beginning of this year about ubmitting documents to KCC AFTER the DS260. So – please be careful.
The actual processing time of the DS260 is quite short – probably 3 to 4 weeks. From 2018, KCC managed to prioritize the way they process DS260s to ensure DS260s submitted for lower case numbers are processed before higher case numbers that will wait anyway for their case numbers to become current. This was a good change – because in previous years DS260 caused scheduling delays for many cases.
Does every DS260 take the same time to process?
No. There is some background checks required on each case that vary according to the situation of the selectees. The precise details of the checks are not published, but we can guess they are mainly about ensuring security of the USA. That means they communicate with agencies and foreign governments about the details you provide on the DS260. Some countries co-operate with the USA, some don’t. In countries that don’t co-operate you can expect DS260 will take longer. So, some cases are very simple, and some not so simple. If a selectee was raised in Western Europe, works in an office and has never travelled to certain high risk countries we can expect the DS260 processing (once the case is ACTUALLY processed, not queued) to be quick. If on the other hand someone has travel history around certain countries in the middle East or lists their work as “Nuclear weapons specialist”, well they can expect the US government to take longer over those checks.
So – never assume that all DS260s submitted on the same day will complete processing on the same day. There will be variations.
When will I be interviewed?
Interview timing is mainly based on your case number, and where that number is ranked within each region. If you submitted your DS260 early, but have a high case number within your region, you will wait until that case number is ready to be interviewed. So – if you are case number 10000 in AS region for example you can expect a long wait before being interviewed. However regions have their own numbering, SO that same number in AF region (where the highest case number could be a lot higher) that 10000 number would be very low. So “low or high” number is relative within the region.
Is my number safe?
At this time we are already seeing some VERY high case numbers being quoted, these high numbers are FAR beyond the numbers that we have come to consider as safe numbers. So there can only be two explanations of that.
- KCC have selected FAR too many people and high case numbers will not get interviewed. That has happened before, and is somewhat “normal” which is why being selected is not a guarantee of getting a Green Card.
- There are more holes this year because KCC implemented some new technology/rule. This is a possible, but probably over optimistic idea. As I mentioned in my last article the case numbers are not consecutive. So – it is possible to have a massive increase in holes over previous years. But until we see the selectee numbers we will not know how many holes there are.
The point is, if point 2 is not correct (and I tend to believe it is not), then this year will see cutoffs at the end of the year so selectees with high case numbers will miss out. Again, until we see the selectee numbers we cannot say for sure what is high, or what is safe. Please understand I cannot answer the “am I safe” question for many of you.
Update July 2019 – since this article was published we now have more data and I have predictions here:
When will interviews start and how will I be told of my interview date?
No DV2020 interviews will happen before October 2019. DV2020 interviews will continue until September 30th 2020. So stop packing your bags. It’s a long process. Interview scheduled are notified in monthly batches about 6 weeks before the interview month. The notification is called the 2NL.
When will KCC send the first 2NLs?
The first 2NLs (the interview notification) for DV2020 will go out in mid/late August. That will be for cases that have been processed AND are current for October, AND have submitted their documents. Then 2NLs will come in a monthly schedule, also late in each month. So – late in September for November interviews and so on.
When are the visa bulletins published?
The visa bulletins are published around the 8th to the 15th of each month. If you call KCC they will always respond that it is released on the 15th. They are not “late” until the 16th. Usually I get people lamenting “the sky is falling” and “why are they so late” around the 10th or 11th. That will happen every month – and no matter how many times I explain, people are impatient. But please understand this is very predictable – there WILL be a new VB every month, between the 8th and the 15th. Every month.
“My case number is XXXX when will I be scheduled?”
Oh man. These questions are tiring. I really expect people to use some thought process about this, and if you can’t do that, then asking me to think for you is not going to be warmly welcomed by me. I have made available more than enough information to get an idea of how scheduling works, but remember, cases are scheduled according to ALL the following three things.
- The case number. No case will EVER be scheduled until the case number is ready.
- DS260 submission. Until the DS260 is submitted AND PROCESSED, you will not be scheduled.
- Submitted documents to KCC (new process). Until your documents are submitted to KCC you will not be processed. Read about the new procedure here.
How do KCC schedule the cases?
Roughly speaking all interviews are spread out over the year, starting in October and ending the following September. KCC release numbers via the visa bulletin to say which case numbers can be interviewed. Check out this article to understand how to read the visa bulletin.
KCC will increase the number made current on each region at a pace that ensures they have enough interviews to match the embassy capacity during each month.
So – to take an example. If OC had a highest case number of 1000, we could roughly expect to see that number increase by 100 each month. It might be 75 one month and 125 the next, but you get the general idea – it is a slow progression over the year.
Will there be a second draw?
In some years it is possible that there would be a small second draw around September/October. However, it would only be a small number of cases – so chances of being in that selection are very small. However, given the high case numbers we are seeing, there is almost no chance of a second draw for DV2020.
Please learn to be self sufficient about this point. This site has LOTS of information. Please apply some common sense and think before asking a question.
You can look at the historical visa bulletin numbers from previous years to get an idea how things work. However, every year is different, so I would suggest only taking a look at DV2018 to try and anticipate when your number will be scheduled for interview. **Please** do that rather than asking me to predict your interview date. Use some judgment and common sense to allow me to spend my time on people that need help with more critical questions.
Selectees, cases and case numbers
OK – so there is some confusion about this – so let me cover it here.
When the selectee numbers are published (in the July or August visa bulletin there is a number shown for each country within each region. That number is the number of *selectees – INCLUDING derivatives*. So – if a winner was single, that is one selectee on one case number. If the winner was married and had one child, that would count as three selectees. The global quota of visas is 50,000, so if the three person family were to be approved, that is 3 out of 50,000.
Each winner gets a case number. The derivatives are on that same case number. Each region has it’s on set of case numbers – so there can be an AF1, AF2, AS1, AS2, EU1 and EU2 ands so on. So when you tell me your case number is case number 12345 – it is meaningless. I need the year and region.
As I explain in this post about holes theory – the case numbers assigned have “holes” (or gaps between them). So – case number 2019EU20000 does NOT have 19999 cases in front of them. The number will be less. However, there may be less case numbers – but each case has the selectee and derivatives.
To understand your “place in the line”, you have to understand the density of cases, number of derivatives on each case, how many cases will respond, how many will be approved and so on. There is a lot to understand. I wrote a series of articles a couple of years ago – and all can be understood by reading those – start with density analysis, and use the links at the bottom of that article to get to the others. The analysis was specific to DV2016 – but the principles are the same.
In the first few months of the new program year we don’t have much data. In January we get access to the CEAC data and then we will understand a lot more. The CEAC data is all the case status info for every case – but again we will not have DV2020 CEAC data until January 2020. In the meantime, you can see excellent visualizations of the DV2018 and 2019 data at the site maintained by a smart guy call Xarthisius. The site illustrates well the density, response rate and so on, which are things you will hear me explain (and can read about on my site).
How many visas can be issued for DV2020? How about XXX country?
According to the published information, there are 50,000 visas available globally. However, the visas are allocated through a quota system to each region. They are NOT allocated by country. However, no one country can receive more than 7% of the global allocation. – so regions have an allocation of the 50,000 global quota. This is explained in more detail here.
Can DV2019 be stopped by Trump/Republicans/Aliens?
This was fully detailed in this post from August 2017. Since then, Trump and the Republicans have continued to achieve almost nothing, and there has been no credible progress toward immigration law changes. Please read that article, and don’t ask me the same questions again until an actual real law is passed.
GROUND RULES for BritSimonSays.com
I don’t work for the government, I don’t get paid for this. I work for a living and I sleep sometimes. So – I expect people to respect my time. That means the following “rules” exist on my site.
- Read the DV lottery guide. It includes a link to my guide on how to complete the DS260, an overall rough idea of the process and so on.
- READ the FAQ (frequently asked questions). If you ask me a question that is covered in the FAQ, you are wasting my time. Please help me help you and others that need help
- Learn how to use the search feature and translation features of this site.
- Post your questions in English. Like many of you, I am multilingual but English is a common language – and most Americans ONLY speak English, and mostly, not very well 😉
- If asking multiple questions, number your questions and consider how I can answer the question. Consider how I can answer with a simple yes or no or short answer – you will find I ALWAYS answer questions like that, because you considered how to make the answer easy for me to give. Give me enough detail to answer the question without making me read about your life history for 10 minutes. I do ignore some rambling questions that send me to sleep…
- Do NOT post “are you sure” type questions – I simply HATE that. It is a huge waste of my time to have to deal with that type of follow up. Read my answer 10 times if you need, but unless you are CONVINCED I misunderstood or answered incorrectly, don’t ask me the same thing I just answered.
- Post your question once and wait for a reply. Sometimes your post won’t show up on the public page until I approve it. That doesn’t mean you should post the same question 5 more times. Just wait.
- If following up to a question you already asked – use “REPLY” to keep the questions in context. I see an administrators view of the questions – I don’t always see that one question is close to your previous question, but I am able to jump to the thread if you use reply.
- Don’t expect me to know everything about life in all the countries around the world. You may not have left country A – but you should consider that the world does not all work the same way as country A.
- Tell the truth. Don’t lie to me. I hate it – and it is pointless. This process requires honesty. So do I.
- Keep your data private. Your case number should be quoted with region and year, but you don’t need to give me, or anyone else, a precise number. Give a range by “X-ing out” the last few digits. So – if your number is 2019AF000012345, you can quote your number as 2019AF12XXX. That tells me you are about the 12000 to 13000 range in AF region in 2019.
- Every year I get a few characters that drive me nuts. There is the person that asks every single question that pops into their head. If someone is making use of the info here, that should not be necessary. Take some responsibility for your own case. Second I get some smartasses that get uppity with me over one thing or another. I could argue for England, I enjoy a good argument, but this isn’t the place for that and I am too busy. I will not hesitate to delete messages I find annoying or damaging to other people’s chances. Some people are amazed when I do that – but this is my blog. If you want to argue because you think you know better, just find somewhere else to do that. I’m not interested in feeding your ego, and I don’t care if you think I am arrogant, mean, a tyrant or whatever. Really – I don’t care, so those “accusations” don’t hurt me.
- This space reserved for any other rules I think of, whenever I think of them.

August 7, 2019 at 13:56
No problem. Just add all derivatives on your DS260 and create DS260s for them.
August 7, 2019 at 15:39
How to create DS260s for them. And also my case number of 2020AF00001XXX is higher or lower.
August 7, 2019 at 17:06
Use the add applicant functionality in the DS260. That number is low.
August 7, 2019 at 07:13
Hi Sir,
Thanks for all of your assistance for DV processing .
My question is, does your sponsor change of location / Address matter in your 260 filling ?
ex, your sponsor first lived at area F which was used to complete the 260 and later the sponsor moved in to new apartment . With new Address . Should the 260 Address be filling Address be change to the Current Address too ?
August 7, 2019 at 14:02
Yes because the GC will be sent to the USA address in your DS260.
August 11, 2019 at 13:47
Thanks sir, I am reading about your unlock process to change the Address .
August 8, 2019 at 10:51
I don’t have a question. I just wanted to say thank you for all the work you do here and all the knowledge you share with us, and your continued patience even with the most basic questions because people are too lazy to even read your articles properly. I’m still not giving up hope for a 2020 second draw, or for next year, or the year after… you get the idea. 😉
Keep up the awesome work and thanks again!

August 8, 2019 at 18:55
Dear Sir,
May I start to fill ds 260 for 2020 or when I should do that? Please….
August 8, 2019 at 20:34
Whenever you want.
August 10, 2019 at 08:53
Do I submit my documents or cause I submit my ds260 for dv 2020 on may 26
August 10, 2019 at 15:00
Wait to be asked.
August 29, 2019 at 16:55
Hello! Without wishing to create ambiguity, I will advise you to send your documents because you will receive the ok. All those who made it received me especially after 2 working days some the same day. I’m 2020af53 ***. Finally you lose nothing by doing so we will not blame you for that. cordially !
August 29, 2019 at 20:04
@Giovanni. Why do that? The case number means the OP will be waiting many months anyway – submitting documents now won’t change that – but the documents would be older.
August 10, 2019 at 15:31
Okey thank Britsimon…… I will wait coz my case number is 2020AF00072+++
August 10, 2019 at 15:34
And I don’t know went will I be interviewed or my will be current
August 12, 2019 at 19:18
Hi britsimon! CN DV2020 AF69*** Egypt, Can I fill DS260 form even if my children’s passport is expired?
August 12, 2019 at 19:52
Yes – but there is no need to rush – you won’t get an interview until late in the process and there is some risk that you may not get an interview at all. So – I suggest you do NOT submit the DS260 yet. Wait a few months and see how things move.
August 12, 2019 at 20:39
Ok, thank you britsimonsays
August 12, 2019 at 22:26
Hello Brit, I am new here and thanks for coming here.
Please my wife is selected in the Dv 2020 and her case number is 2020AF34*****.
She completed her University degree last year . My question is since I am a derivative and my current job status doesn’t pay that high thereby leading to a low saving, could my wife and I be denied VISA. And my second question is we married in 2017 and lost most of our stuff due to flood such as photos and other valuables but the marriage certificate was safe… Can we go and take another photos for our interview when the said that arrives or we can only submit our matrmarr certificate ?.
Thank you Brit

If there is a second draw for DV 2020, that mean all winners will be scheduled for interview? And when will we know it will be a second draw?
REPLY
August 13, 2019 at 14:11
There might be a second draw in September. That does not mean everyone will be scheduled – it might vary by region.
August 13, 2019 at 05:05
Hello Brit. My wife is the principal and I am the derivative with case number 2020AF34****. We lost our photos due to flood except the MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE.
My question is : Can we take new photos since we lost the old ones to show to the Consulate when our interview date is at hand ?.
Second question : my savings is very low so can I let’ a sponsor file the 1-134 forms for me as i will also take my bank statement with me to show the consular.
Thank you Brit.
August 13, 2019 at 14:08
1. Do the best you can.
2. Yes
August 13, 2019 at 05:06
Hi Simon
Do you know how the new Trump rules for getting the green card will affect the DV lottery winners ?
August 13, 2019 at 06:11
Hi Simin
I have Just watched your video on YouTube which you have posted 30 min ago and its sufficiently answered my question,
Thanks and have a good day!

August 13, 2019 at 08:33
Hi Sir
I submited my DS-260 form in june for dv2020 and my case number AF00020XXX. My worry is My birth date. I register the dv 12/MM/YY and on submiting the form i put my original date which is 02/MM/YY but all my info on the form is correct. My question is will the KCC be able to access my form and get back to me sir?
August 13, 2019 at 13:40
You corrected it on the ds260 – right? If so, it should be OK
August 14, 2019 at 08:40
Thanks alot Sir … But what i meant was that, to access the DS-260 form inorder to fill my personal info i use this date 12/mm/yy and the TAPTCHAT code, which i use to register the dv2020, wrong date ’12’ which was a mistake but on submitting i use my original date that is 02/mm/yy TAPTCHAT code, and all my info on the form correct, CN 2020AF00020XXX, cameroon, so very worried if the kcc wiil be able to access and process my form and get back to me Sir….? Or do i need to write to them for the correction Sir…?
August 14, 2019 at 10:16
Your DS260 needs to have the correct date of birth, even if the original entry did not. So correct that if that is the case.
August 14, 2019 at 10:52
Ok, Thanks alot Sir, i put i fill the form with my orignal birth date ,i greatly appreciate your help… Thanks for your kind attention….
August 14, 2019 at 23:02
Once again Sir, I have gone through most of your articles but could not undertand the meaning of 2NL, and I wish to know when my case will be schedule, I submitted my DS-260 form since 16th June my CN2020AFAF20XXX THANKS. . .
August 15, 2019 at 04:18
Nonesense. Read the FAQ (you clearly have not).
August 15, 2019 at 05:39
OK Sir thanks. …
August 15, 2019 at 19:21
Hi Brit,
Just a quick one, I made a mistake during the registration last year, i enter my year of birth as 1992 instead of 1990. What i have on my documents is 1990.
Can i change it to the year of birth on my documents or i should swear Affidavit and change the one on my document to tally the one i used for the registration last year.
August 15, 2019 at 19:47
Change it on your DS260 to make sure that is accurate.
August 16, 2019 at 02:08
Hii ?
My case number is 2020AF00024xxx in Egypt and I was born in United Arab Emirates
Many people told me that it would be a problem for me because my case number is Af not AS and my case number dependent on my birth country !
Is that true ?? If yes what should I do??
Thank you?
August 16, 2019 at 03:41
Yes it is a problem. At the time of the entry, were you married to someone from Africa? If not, disqualification is certain.
August 16, 2019 at 06:01
No i’m single i’m still 19 years old
Why disqualification? What did the problem that I did ?
I’m sure that I submitted all the data true and I have Egyptian nationality only, since 2012 I live in Egypt ….and I also wrote that I was born in UAE
So where is the problem?
Thank you for your answer:)
August 16, 2019 at 07:00
The problem is that you must have selected to charge to Egypt – but that was incorrect. Disqualification is certain.
August 17, 2019 at 10:04
Even if my parents were born in Egypt ?
August 17, 2019 at 20:54
Yes. Certain.
August 17, 2019 at 21:34
But there is law that says if the child was born in a country that the parents were not residence (UAE) and the parents were born in the country of chargeability (Egypt) so I think maybe it will be ok …or what do you think?
Some people told me in Egypt the consulars are easy with people and beacause I’m still young girl 20 they will agree ( but of course they will not)?
August 16, 2019 at 13:09
Hi hi Brit, thank you for your endless help . God bless you !
i have a question , I m selected dv2020, I will marry next month September 2019 . Is it possible to include my wife in the ds 260 form?
The second question is my wife has not got her passport at present time . Does it matter for her and me?
August 16, 2019 at 13:12
Wait until you are married then submit the DS260s for both of you. Get the passport too.
August 17, 2019 at 10:53
hello . my husband case no is 2020AS0002xxxx. my son turns 21 in November 2019. Do we need to inform about it to KCC ? Thank you in advance.
August 17, 2019 at 20:52
Watch this. Because you listed your case number incorrectly, I cannot tell how long you have before you will be scheduled.
https://youtu.be/2DnNEQDNWt0
August 18, 2019 at 15:28
sorry for my mistake my hudband case no is 2020AS00029xxx
August 18, 2019 at 16:05
OK – then it is likely your son will not be able to go with you. Calculate the age out date, but if your case does not become current in time, your son will not get a visa. It’s very hard to bring an adult child – so you need to think through whether you still want to go.
August 18, 2019 at 09:00
Dear Mr. Brit,
Thank you a lot for the great help you provide, I won the DV 2020. In regards to the document submitting by email (the new procedure), you said in the last youtube live video that they sent the email to high numbers, do you have any idea what is the case number they reach in Asia (send the document submitting email too)?
August 18, 2019 at 14:32
No – I am not tracking that. It doesn’t matter – they are not sending them in number order.
August 18, 2019 at 16:45
Hi Brit,
I ask u a question n up to now I have not seen my reply. here is 8
Is 8 truth that I am hearing the up coming DV 2021 require a valid passport?
Is it the applicant require to submit their passport doing the entry,or both of us since we are couples?
Pls help me I don’t want to loose this chance.
August 18, 2019 at 17:04
That rule is now effective. Whether they have time to amend the lottery system or not for DV2021, I don’t know. We will only see when the instructions are published.
August 18, 2019 at 17:23
Hi Mr.Simon, i was wondering if you could help me with this questions
1. My CN is 2020SA000204X, when could be the limit for me to send the DS-260?
2. If i go to the USA for vacation, aftet i send my ds-260, that could affect my entry?
August 18, 2019 at 17:42
1. There is no limit. You can delay to the point you want – but I would not suggest you delay much past April of next year.
2. No.
August 19, 2019 at 14:11
Sir
I have completed bachelors level at the end of 2018
And currently I’m neither studying nor engaged in any job
Will it be a problem?

August 19, 2019 at 16:07
No
August 19, 2019 at 16:56
Thank you sir ?

Hi
I have a question…
I’m a dv 2020 winner (single)
My father’s name has middle name in his citizenship
Also, in my birth certificate, his middle is included (in father’s name)
However in my other documents like; citizenship, passport and academic certificates there is no middle name
But we have verification from ward that the person with and without middle name is the same person
Also, in ds260 form i have written his name as per my birth certificate (i.e. with middle name). is it ok?
And there is no problem in my name…
So I’m afraid that it will cause the rejection of visa or any other big issues
I want your advice ?

I’m confused with the long story.
Simple answer. Your legal name should be what is on your passport and birth cert. Other versions of your name could be in the other names used section.

Hi my dear sir,
I have been selected in dv lottery 2020 and my case number is 20202AS00013xxx.

August 20, 2019 at 09:23
Heloo dear
Further to below email and my personal visit at your office still the below issue is not solved and I couldn’t process the DS -260 and this is to remind you and kindly assist me to solve the below issues
with kind regards
I have been randomly selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant Visa program for the fiscal year of 2020.
I was filling out DS-260 online, but couldn’t be able to finish it at that time. When I went back to finish filling the application, I got locked out and couldn’t be able to sign in again. It says ” the case number entered is currently unavailable. Please try again later or contact the Kentucky Consular Center…” I have been trying to login several times, but I see the same error message.
Would you please find out what is going on, and help me out and unlock it, so I can finish the DS- 260 application online
Thank you

You visited my office? In California? Wow, I don’t remember seeing you!
The DS260 has been erroring for a number of people. Wait a few days and try again.

Hi my dear sir,
I have been selected in dv lottery 2020 and I have submitted my ds 260 form in month of May.
In my ds 260 form,in section of US address,I just write the where I would like to live or intend to live in USA.
But didn’t write the name of person and email address.
So my dear sir,
Would it affect my interview and USA visa
August 22, 2019 at 03:47
No.
August 22, 2019 at 15:03
Hi sir,
Thanks by advance for your help and your precious time
I am a bit worried and here is why :
I have been selected for the DV 2020 but me and my boyfriend didn’t really get the importance of getting married BEFORE the interview, we thought it would be easier for us to marry afterwards as we are both studying and wanted to make it special.
But as we recently heard about the difficulty of getting a green card for my future husband, I asked to unlock my case and we rushed to find a date to marry but we could only get a date in end of October !
So as I think I have a low case number 2020EU00005XXX in France, I am worried about loosing the advantage of this case number because I will resubmit my unlock form only in October/November… is this possible ?
We don’t mind a delay, we are just scared of loosing our low case number…
Thanks a lot for your help !
August 22, 2019 at 16:45
There are two ways to delay your case. Don’t submit the DS260 OR don’t submit the documents when requested. Do one of those two things until after you are married.
August 23, 2019 at 04:53
Thanks for your answer !
Actually, we already did that, we just wanted to ask :
Could we loose the advantage of our low case number by resubmitting the unlocked Ds-260 form only in November 2019 after we got married ?
Is there a chance in some way that we don’t get an interview because of that (late submitting) or it will just cause delay ?
Thanks a lot !
August 23, 2019 at 05:59
It’s no problem. Relax.
August 23, 2019 at 10:00
Haha thanks we will then !

Hi brit! My CN is 2020SA2041, i submitted my ds260 on Wednesday 21 and the 26th i received an email of KCC to send the documents.
1. If i send the documents as soon as possible my interview could be earlier that march?
2. Should i wait to submit the documents?
3. If so, when should i submit them?
4. The police certificates must be in English if they are from Colombia and Venezuela?
Thank you very much!
August 27, 2019 at 16:44
1. Much earlier than March.
2. That’s up to you!
3. See 2.
4. They will probably be in Spanish – so then you present the original AND a translation IF you are interviewing somewhere other than a Spanish speaking country.

Hi sir,
I have been selected in dv lottery 2020 and my case number is 2020AS0000100x.
My interview is going to held in month of October.
I made a mistake in my ds 260 form. In section of institute. I have done my higher secondery education from college and secondary education from school.
In ds form I just put the number of institute one mean the name of my college but not put the name of school in my ds form.
So my dear sir plz help me.
What can I do?
Would it effect interview?
Or I must unlock my ds form?
Thank u

Hi britsimon my CN is DV2020 AF00069*** Egypt, I enterd USA by tourist Visa, now I have case but it is pending and my husband won DV2020. My question is how long should I wait to know is my cn ok or not for schedule an interview? Can I submit DS260 now?
Thank you
August 27, 2019 at 19:28
Your number is high, and it’s in Egypt. So – there is some risk, because Egypt could hit the 7% limit. However, that could happen VERY late in the year – so you won’t know for sure until it is too late to hold your DS260 back. So – wait a few months, but at some point you will have to decide whether to gamble and submit your DS260.
August 27, 2019 at 19:41
Thank you for your help
August 28, 2019 at 04:49

August 28, 2019 at 07:28
hi Brit. when i was 20 yrs of age, my father illegally reduced my age and acquired the National ID card for me . i years after i decided go fr a new and legal birth certificate to match the dates which is on my ID card and on my academic certificates which i did with a valid court delclaration attached . its this birth certificate i used to make my passport since 2018 ,play the lottery2019\2020 and won and fill the DS 260 .every infomormation from my ID, passport, academics to DS260 is line with the new and legal Birth certificate. could there be any problem along the line prior to the above explained?
August 28, 2019 at 13:38
I don’t know.
August 28, 2019 at 14:04
is there any new update about second letter sir has it started for 2020??
August 28, 2019 at 15:44
There are so few interviews for October that I only received ONE report of the 2NLs being sent for the first batch. I don’t announce the 2NLs being sent until I have corroboration. So – I think some 2NLs have been sent, but I will wait until the end of the month for more to go out.
August 28, 2019 at 19:08
thank u soo much for the reply sir..

So my dear sir,
Is my case number high?
Is there any chance to get interview?
In which month I have maximum chance to get interview?
Thanks
August 28, 2019 at 16:13
Your number is fine. Interview early 2020
August 28, 2019 at 16:23
My case number
Is 2020AF00072xxx…… Not yet ask to submit documents don’t know if I have chance to be interviewed cause of my case no
August 28, 2019 at 16:58
Your number is high, so you will wait until almost a year to know your chance. With what we know at this time, I think you have a chance. But “wait and see” is the best answer.

Hi,
2020
August 28, 2019 at 22:30
Dear Britsimon,
Thank you for your endless help on this website, you have been helpful just reading your narratives.!
I had got to know that I was selected for further processing and managed to lodged the DS-260 form online. case number granted (2020AS0002****)
I was born in UAE, from Sudanese parents. currently residing/holding Australian Citizenship.
I do understand that I have got abit of waiting times to do before I can be scheduled an interview her in Australia.
I was just wondering, since I had chosen the country of birth is UAE and citizenship is Australian, would there be any concerns in terms of country of chargeability.
Bare in mind that, neither of my parents had UAE citizenship. And I am single with no children.
Many Thanks
August 28, 2019 at 23:30
No concerns. Place of birth is what is important.
August 29, 2019 at 00:53
So Simon
I went to the officials again in my country for police cert and still did not get it, there is a political crisis now and its very difficult to get such documents, I was so nervous and went ahead to submit other documents then explained I will submit police as soon as it is available because the only place the embassy instruction says I can get it from is not easy at the moment, am sure the embassy is aware of it too. Then after a day, KCC mailed and said they have reviewed my DS260 and documents and everything is OK, I should wait till the Visa bulletin is out, the rest info is same as u have been saying. Now my worry, do I still submit police cert when it is available or I take it only on interview date, thanks
August 29, 2019 at 01:19
You can decide that for yourself. I don’t think it matters one way or the other.
August 29, 2019 at 15:12
Hi Simon,
Thanks for all the advise you give in the DV Lottery process.
My wife has been selected for DV2020 and she case number 2020AF00006*** .
i have few things i need clarification on before we ca submit our DS260 forms:
1. I live in Kenya but my wife and I have previously lived in South Africa and stayed there for about 6 years but it is proving difficult to get police clearance from there. Any advice how we can proceed with application without the PC?
2. Together with my wife have two minor children. However, I have other two children outside marriage, one is legally recognized on me but not on my wife. another child is not legally registered (recognized) on me. Should add the children on my application or not? if i put them what about on my wife’s application?
3. I had also entered the DV lottery 2020 but was not select for further processing. while i was completing the initial entry application i had not put those two children outside marriage, would this entry made previously make any connection or impact to the Visa application (DS260) that I am going to submit through my wife?
Thank you in advance
August 29, 2019 at 19:24
1. No. You need the SA police cert. Make sure you are following instructions from the reciprocity page and document the steps you are taking. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/SouthAfrica.html
2. You were obliged to list those children during your entry. Your wife should ALSO have listed those children as they are her step children (assuming you were married prior to the DV entry). Since from what you are saying I don’t think she did that, you are facing disqualification.
3. See 2.
August 30, 2019 at 11:38
Hello again Simon,
Thanks for your answers. i just have one more on the issue of children. I understand my wife should have listed the outside marriage children as step children but in fact she was not aware of them by then. So i guess, i can be disqualified but for her she can have a waiver as she wasn’t aware of the situation and she is the principal applicant in this case. Thanks once again for your advice.
August 30, 2019 at 14:04
She won’t get a waiver! Do you think they will just “trust” that she did not know about the children??? Of course not.
August 29, 2019 at 15:29
