Hi Brit,
Thank you for the hard work you do towards everybody here.
We need more people like you today.
Unfortunately I did not read your forum before I submitted my DS-260. I found out I was selected yesterday (little late I know) and was rushed to submit by several friends because they told me -you have to do it quickly or you will lose. your spot-; now reading from you and rest of the people looks like I probably screwed it.
My case is 2021SA42XX, did it completely blew out my chances or it’s just too early to know?
Hope you are fine and safe
Hi Brit, the word ” wacky year” broke my heart..im als a DV 2021 Winner with a case no of AS 1299* Just thought that travel ban will affect only frst three months..and it will process with in next 9 months…
Thank you Sir. Your advices are really appreciated. I am just concerned I read in some news today that green card visas are put on hold till January 2021. What do you advice? Is this going to affect all USA visa issuance ? I just received a letter yesterday asking me to forward my documents to KCC. Will this be affected but the current news?
Many thanks in advance
Hi my name is taibou I have been issued a visa in March but I didn’t travel to the USA until the pandemic came now my visa will expires in August I am wondering to lose my visa will there be a way to extend the visa or what should I do please
Hello from Mongolia. I have been selected for further processing in the DV 2021. My case number is AS00007XXX. My passport has expired in June, 2020 and I got new passport with new number. Also I changed my email address. Would it be better to inform KCC about these changes before submitting DS 260? Your answer would be highly appreciated.
I am really confused about all these situations related immigrant ban extension, what do you think do I need to hold on submitting DS-260 form and wait? Or better file first and send documents, and then wait for interview time to be scheduled? Please give advice. My CN is AS00007XXX.
Hi simon ,
I have question I won a do lottery 2021 with case number 44k and I’am from Morocco
In regards to the DS-260, on the ‘Education section’, I have a high school diploma and specialized technician diploma in the box the highest level of education what I put the high school diploma or specialized technician diploma (Vocations school)
Hey , I have selected I start filling out DS-260 . My only problem is that my mum date of birth on my birthday is going while filling the DS-260 I puted her real birth day.
Is that going to affect my case?
Thank you..
Dear sir,
I forgot to specify my case number AF000007xx is selection for DV2021 is there a possibility to be called for interviews this year? Can I start applying for police certificate because I have to get that from two countries or is it too early to do that?
Hello sir,
In regards to the DS-260, on the ‘Parents section’, my mother’s maiden name is on my birth certificate instead of the surname after she got married to my dad. Is it ok if I use her marital surname?
or should I use her maiden name that’s on my birth certificate?
I hope you’re well? Greatly appreciate all the work that’s gone into your site. It’s been a huge help!
We’ve been selected for DV2021 EU17XXX. I am currently a serving member of the Army Reserve in our home country. Naturally I will have to fill in info of my weapons training from this. Would you think this might go against our application proceeding? Would it be best to retire from the army before submitting?
The weapons training won’t be a problem, although at interview they may ask for proof that you are free to leave the military. I would NOT recommend retiring before the interview.
Hello. Please I won the 2021 lottery with a case number of AF53XXX. I’m yet to fill and submit my DS 260 form. When I was filling my spouse details during the lottery, I entered for example A as his city of birth. But we’ve realized that the city he told me is different from what is on his birth certificate. Please should I now use the city of birth on his birth certificate which is different from what I entered when I applied for the lottery? Can this disqualify us?
Hi simon ,
I won a dv lottery 2021 with case number of AF44000
1- When will the interview be scheduled?
2- I work as a self-employed contractor and I do not have an address. Upon completing a form DS260,They asks for a work address. What should I do in this case?
Hey Simon, been selected 2021, but looking at my selection letter I see ‘chargeability’ as New Zealand – where I now live/have citizenship – but this is not my country of birth. Looking back on my original E-DV application I selected ‘Austria’ as my country of birth (correct), but I selected NZ as country of eligibility – did I make a school boy error??
Hello Birt,
I have an E2 visa and live in the US with my wife having a spouse visa. I am selected for DV-2021 and the case number is AS10300’s. If I prefer to do AOS, do I need to file just the I-485 but not the DS260? Could you let me know what other documents I need to file to USCIS?
Your answers would be highly appreciated!
At the link below you will find a spreadsheet linked from the first post in that thread that details everything you need to know. Sm1smom is a DV AOS expert.
Hi Simon,
Ive been selected for the DV2020, case number 2020EU13xxx.
I have specified London as my preferred interview location in the application, as Im currently living in the UK. However, they scheduled my interview wrongly for Frankfurt (I assume its because I am a German citizen).
Shortly after requesting for my interview location to be changed to London, the embassies closed due to COVID. I have contacted the embassy in London already, but they couldnt give me any information other than that they are closed and are currently unable to provide any useful information.
Do you think my case will be processed once the lockdown/situation is over?
Im a bit worried it will just be forgotten or dismissed, for whatever reason. Any ideas what to expect?
My future plans depend on the outcome, so I was wondering if you think I should still be hopeful about it being successfully processed?
Hi Simon,
Thanks for your reply, but does this mean applications are being processed as normal and interviews are taking place currently?
Sorry if this might sound stupid but my understanding based on website information is that there are no immigrant visas being issued at the moment? Am I wrong?
That’s why I did not chase this up any further with the KCC and embassy, as I thought the whole visa immigration has come to a halt…
No interviews are happening or even being scheduled because the embassies are closed. So – I don’t know when embassies will reopen and what will happen once they do.
I wish i had come across this page earlier. i just got informed of your page Brit. what advice will you give me as i filled my DS260 form already and have a case number of AF85XXX. Do i stand a chance?
Good Day Simon. Thanks for all the help you have been rendering. I won The DV2021 and filled my DS260 form already but i have certain worries which will need your help.
1. I omitted my elementary school information in the Ds260 for. Will i be penalized for that or i will need to show proof at the interview?
2. Also, i won with AF85XXX and have filled the form already. Does it mean i will wait till they get to my case number or i can be called at random from October to come up for my interview. Asking this so i can tart preparing all my documents.
3.For my parents, i could barely fill my dad’s info and I also made a mistake in filling my mother’s surname. Will i be persecuted for that as well?
4. Lastly, My highest level of education is the higher national diploma(professional diploma) and for current school institution, i included my former university since i was studying there but dropped few months ago due to financial constraints. I will like to know if i made a mistake with ths.
Hello Simon,
Thank you for your helpful advices about dv program.
My case number is 2021EU00006XXXX, after results I have been married now I’m pregnant and expecting to give birth in December. In Ds 260 form there is no option for pregnant in the part of family. Should I continue with my ds form and documents and add later the baby?
hello Simon
In 2018 my uncle gave me an invitation to build a non-immigrant file to go the USA,but the VISA was not approved.
the consular officer did not mention the reasons yet the file was well assembled.
I’m a happy winner of the DV2021 (AF55XXX)
1)what will I answer in the section “Do you once apply for an American VISA? ”
2)If yes, what to say about the reasons for the refusal?
3)Is my case number high? What solution would you give me?DS 260 is not yet complete
Hi Simon,
This site has been a wealth of knowledge, thank you so much. I found out yesterday that I have been selected for further processing, which is very exciting. I know that there is no huge rush to complete my DS-260, so I have started to request some of the documentation that will be required as part of the application process (confirmation of my high school completion).
After watching your Youtube videos I understand that it is possibly too early to tell regarding the case numbers, but mine appears to be rather high (2021OC00003XXX) so do you suggest holding off until about September to submit my DS-260 obligations ?
Hi Kristy,
I am also within OC region and gave a case number 29XX – I have seen some others in OC with high case numbers (3250+) – holding out to see how many have been selected as BritS has said, looks like there may be higher % of hole due to new passport rule (fingers crossed!)
The rate of holes is NOT about the new passport rule. The increased hole rate was observed in DV2020 – and that was before the passport rule. So – in some regions I expect an increase of denials at interview due to the new passport rule, but I don’t think that will be much impact in OC.
Hello!
On the DS260, for the question ‘full name in native alphabet’, do I write my full name that I’ve already entered, or just select ‘does not apply’? I’m from New Zealand and my name is just the standard English format the form asks for.
Thanks!
i won the DV2021 with my kid because i am divorced but in the lottery i made a mistake with my kid date of birth, the original one is 20/06/2015 but when i applied for the lottery i submit with 2016 instead of 2015, is that a big problem and may affect my eligibility and what to write on the DS-260 to continue with the mistaken date of birth or can i write the correct one and is it safe to correct without rendering my CN ineligible?
I have been selected for the DV2021 lottery. I have been doing some research on how to accurately fill out the DS260 form when I came across your blog. There are a few questions that I will like to ask?
1. My case number is 2021SA4XXX; would this be considered a high or low case number.
2. Also, would I be encouraged to go ahead and file as soon as possible based on whether it is a high-case or low-case?
3. I have been wrestling with the permanent address section asking for the intended living address when you arrive in the USA. Should I have an address with the contact person for this section, or can I list a tentative rented house or apartment?
4. Also, below ask if this is where I will like the (GC) to go? Can I place my husband’s UPS mailbox address that he has in the USA and have the green cards sent there?
5. Finally, we are a family of five, and my current job status is one that meets the job zone 4 in the O*Net database, which I intend to follow through with. Do I need to apply for sponsorship, or would my husband and I have time enough to prove that we can support ourselves before the time of the interview?
1. High. So high I would suggest you wait for a while before submitting the DS260 to see if you have a chance or not.
2. No. See 1
3. You should list someone you can trust to receive the GC if you are able to proceed.
4. Can’t be a mailbox.
5. You should consider getting an I-134. But there is plenty of time for all of that planning…
Thanks for the speedy reply,
1. in response to question 1 are you saying that the number is so high that I may not stand the chance of receiving an interview?
2. How would I know where my odds stand if that were the case?
Hi Brit! Thank you for the info. Been selected for DV2021 and very excited. Would you consider AF36*** a safe CN? It may be early to predict but when can i expect an interview?
In the event that your interview is due when your unexpired passport isn’t qualified for renewal yet, but also wouldn’t meet the requirement of an applicant having to submit an unexpired passport which will still be valid for 6 months beyond your intended date of entry in the U.S.A as stated by the embassy, would it affect your chances of you being issued the visa.
2) If the answer is yes, what can be done in dealing or avoiding such a situation.
European selectee here too. Case number 2021EU000065XX. Would like to stay in touch if you want as you are the first one from Europe I have came across
Hi Brit!
I hope you are doing fine. Thank you for all your help. I have few questions below:-
1. Where can I find info about how many South Africans used DV quota so far?
2. People who filled original DV entries on day 1 will get low rank numbers is a fact/myth?
3. By when we will know how many people they selected for DV 2021?
Many thanks,
~Murali
Dear Sir,
First of all thank you for all your patience.Secondly, from my understanding when any country was issued with 55K DV’s starting from 1999 (e.g. India) I feel they will automatically become ineligible. Am I correct?
Thank you!
Hi Brit, what will be your advice for a case number 2021AF73XXX. I have read and understood the process and planning to get some few things like vaccinations and police reports before I submit next year. I understand your video perfectly and thanks for the details but can i go ahead and submit and just wait till they are ready to call me for an interview?
The number is high, so although you should not wait until current, you should not rush to submit either. Wait a few weeks so we can see how many selectees there are.
Dear Brit,
My case # is 2021AF74XXX.
I already submitted DS260. My 2 kids passport will expire in July. Is it ok to request KCC to unlock DS and update my kids passport details after getting new passports? Please advice.
Thank you sir,
Murali
My case # is 2021AF74XXX. I have few questions sir.
1. Once If i unlock DS260, I must re- submit it again after revisions, am I correct?
2. Do I need to submit police clearances ONLY at the time of interview or also to KCC when submitting my docs? The reason I’m asking this is because I need to organize them from 4 different countries and it’s a time consuming process.
3. In relation to my case # sir, when VB shows CURRENT, Is it a good or bad thing for me?
1. Yes
2. Both at interview and also to KCC. But your case number is very high meaning you have to wait around a year anyway, so why worry about rushing???
3. It would be a good thing, but the VB at the moment is for DV2020, NOT DV2021.
I got selected for the DV2021, im from Venezuela and my passport expired last February. There is an agreement with US Government (based on Venezuela politics current situation) that expired passports from Venezuela would be accepted for up to 5 years after expired date, by any chance, do you know if this apply to the DV process also?
Thank you for taking the time to share all of this precious information with us. The process can be overwhelming, so it’s very appreciated to have someone take the time to talk us through this in a calm and detailed manner.
I consider myself extremely lucky that I have been selected for 2021. I’m not sure what to think of the case number I’ve been assigned (2021EU00035XXX), which seems to be very high given what I’ve read in your past articles and comment sections in the last couple of days.
I will follow the process and commit to it 100%, because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to relocate to the US. I do wonder though : are there case numbers you would consider so high it would be nearly 100% impossible to have an interview ? Just so I know how to better adjust my expectations. I try to do this calmy and not taking anything for granted, but it would be good to know if it’s totally useless from the start.
I’ve now watched all three videos you’ve uploaded for DV2021 winners, and I’m taking the core message of slow down, don’t rush, and don’t make mistakes to heart. My case number – 2021AS00029XXX – also seems likely to be fairly high, so I understand that there is no benefit to rushing regardless.
I’m fairly comfortable that I did not make any mistakes in my original application. The only issue that you mentioned that applies to me is that I did not enter my country of birth as my country of chargeability – but that is because I was born in the UK, so I used my wife’s country of birth (Hong Kong) as that is how we were eligible. We were married before we entered and she is a derivative on my application under her married name, so as far as I understand this was appropriate and correct.
After watching the ‘How to Process your Case’ video, I do have one question I was hoping you could help me with. I understand that submitting the DS-260 is viewed as a declaration of intent to emigrate and therefore not to be completed lightly. What I’d like to understand is the potential implications of submitting this form in the context of the problems that I may encounter in the future that you mentioned in the video.
If we submit the DS-260 form but then either our application fails for some reason, or we decide not to proceed for economic reasons (ie covid-19 fallout), a change in personal circumstances, or any other cause – would this prevent us from entering the DV lottery again in following years, or cause problems for us visiting the USA as a tourist in the future?
We’ve been discussing this opportunity at some length since we found out that we were selected, and at this point we do wish to proceed – but as you said in one of your videos, life does happen. My wife has family in the States and I have friends, so as frequent visitors via the ESTA scheme I’m slightly concerned by the potential to cause us problems in the future should we either choose not to proceed following the point at which we submit the DS-260, or our application fails for some reason.
Thanks again for all the advice so far. This blog is already proving to be an invaluable resource, and it’s incredibly kind of you to spend so much time providing assistance and advice to anonymous strangers hoping for success.
Because you took your wife’s chargeability, you BOTH have to be treated as principal applicants. The embassy might not understand that, but if they do – they should ask for education proof from both of you.
Then impact on future DV/NIV applications:
No impact on future DV.
For NIV applications (not ESTA) there could be increased suspicion that you will try and overstay or whatever, so it makes denial of an NIV slightly more likely.
Thanks Simon – the proof of education isn’t an issue, we both completed the equivalent of a high school education in the UK and HK respectively before going onto University. I still have my A-level certificates (which are finally coming in handy!) and my wife is working on obtaining the same.
I doubt we’ll need to apply for any other NIV in the future unless something happens to the ESTA scheme so that’s reassuring to hear. If we ever do apply for any NIV hopefully our ties to the UK and record of never overstaying on many, many other visits will help. I also spent a year studying in VA whilst at University on a J1 Visa and didn’t overstay, so there’s also precedent there.
Thanks again, appreciate your thoughts. Looking forward to your next video!
Hi BritSimon
Please could you advise me.
I was selected for further processing for the DV lottery. My passport is expiring in August 2020. I can fill out the DS-260 form now with the current passport to get in quickly, but my fear is the expiry will be an issue later down the line. Else I can apply for a new passport now and wait about a month for it to arrive before completing the DS-260 form. My fear is that if I wait a month, it will be too long and I will miss my spot. Quite the quandary, what do you recommend? I phoned the call centre and they said that if I bring in a different passport to the one I declare on the DS-260 I will be disqualified, is that true?
Thank you
Kate
It’s not complicated and the answer from the call center was complete BS.
YOu don’t “miss your spot”. Cases are processed by case number, and people that submit late will go to the front of the line once their DS260 and documents are processed. . I had asked you yesterday about your case number, because if your case number is high, there is absolutely no advantage in rushing to submit.
Dear Brit,
Thank for your information! My wife won DV-2021. Her case number is 2021AS000141XX. My question are:
1) is it a low or high case number?
2) Should I start fulfilling DS260 form now or wait a bit?
3) During entering the DV-2021 lottery, we have only two children. However, my wife is going to give a birth to our third baby at the end of July. Is it possible for us to list another child in DS260?
4) It is difficult to ask someone in US to be our sponsorship or I may have to pay a lot if someone agrees because we don’t have relatives in US to sponsor us. Do we need to have a sponsor? Can we sponsor ourself?
Thank you so much! I am looking forward to seeing your kind response.
Hi Mr Simon.. your advice will be highly appreciated.. am a winner as a couple with one kid,..at the moment we are not in good terms with my wife and am preparing for divorce ..
Will this have anegative impact on the case ..please advise me
Hi Brit! I won the DV 2020 with an error on my date of birth. During the time of submitting my information when I played and my wife played, the information about my date of birth was mistakenly typed March 28, 1969 instead of March 28, 1967. My wife date of birth is April 7, 1969. So her year was mistakenly placed on my information that was submitting to KCC that I won on. But as soon as I observed it, I wrote KCC informing them of the error before I started my DS 260 form and so far I submitted all of the documentation to KCC and awaiting 2NL . Is it going to cause us problems during our interview? The date of birth that I am presently using is March 28, 1969.
Hi Brit!I know maybe I won’t find or have an answer because I really don’t know what to ask for.I came across your blog today , only to wonder:How is it possible that nobody cares about dv2020 anymore?!We were lucky to be selected last May.How is it possible nobody from the administration body or Senat or I don’t know, nobody fights for dv2020 and for our deadline September 30??This is such unfair.I know life isn’t fair at all,but why??I have a lot of questions on my own. Why??It wasn’t absolutely our fault. It was a global pandemic. We didn’t do nothing to deserve it.Why there’s nothing to do?Why they can’t put our cases aside or something like that. They just said that dv2021 won’t have any affection. And why we should have?I know,I feel it,I can see it that he’s going to extend again on June 11.And this destroyed me totally inside.I was almost touching my dream and now all is gone.I’m sorry to tell this here but I know you always supported me and I have a big thanks for you.I wish better days come to my life and I wish I was never selected.I lived a nightmare these 13 months.I’m not gonna try never again the american lottery.Just it wasn’t meant to be unfortunately ?
God bless you Brit. You’ll always have my respect!
Of course DV2020 continues, and people do care, and people are fighting. I do not agree that an extension of the ban is a done deal. Possible, but not certain. However, the fact that embassies are closed is a far bigger problem. You ask Why. Well the families of the hundreds of thousands of people that have died through COVID would probably ask the same question. The 40 Million people unemployed in the USA probably ask why too. It sucks. It’s not fair. But that is life. Unfair sometimes.
Hi Brit, thanks for the advice. But I did not do the correction of my age on the DS 260 form before submitting! Can I make the correction now on my DS260? Or late to do so? Thanks so much and my appreciation! Hi
You rushed your DS260. Email KCC and unlock and fix it, but before you resubmit, learn what the heck you are supposed to do to make sure you don’t make more mistakes.
For people from banned countries a wise thing would be to wait until November. If Trump loses the election, then it is likely that Biden will remove the bans.
Does a step child included on the DV lottery entry form prior to winning, also stand a chance of being issued the DV visa together with the primary applicant and spouse or his inclusion on the entry does not in anyway give him the chance to be considered for the visa since he’s certainly not the natural child of the primary applicant, but rather that of the spouse (derivative).
Thanks for the reply. But I would like to further ask if in such instances, it would be requested of the spouse (derivative) to prove with document showing whether he/she has full custody of the child in question or has sought the consent of the child’s other biological parent in allowing for the processing of the child’s visa by his/her step parent (primary applicant)? Or is it automatic that once it’s been established that the spouse (derivative) is equally a biological parent to the child, the child’s visa can be processed for even when such a document isn’t readily available.
Hi Brit, I would like to know if a spouse who happens to be a derivative, is required to present any document covering his or her initial marital status, if he or she has ever been divorced before finally settling down with the primary applicant or that is a requirement solely for the primary applicant to submit documents pertaining to his/her present and past marital status upon winning the lottery.
Hello Britsimon! I have filled the first 4 pages of the DS260 but now I am trying to sign in to continue but everytime I try I insert the last name, confirmation number, case number and I follow all instructions but unfortunately i get the same message every time which is YOUR REQUEST CANNOT BE PROCESSED AT THIS TIME. I am just wondering if someone else has the same problem. I am worried
Hey brit my husband was born in saudi arabia but doesn’t have a birth certificate here. I am the winner and he is embloyed here and doesn’t wanna go, he want to stay here in saudi and be my sponser in US my questions are..
1. Can i go by my self and my husband stay here in saudi?
2. Can he be my sponser in saudi as he is an embloyed man that can send me money monthly?
Hi. Thank you Brit for all the info you are providing! Just curious about your opinion – is there chance to see a second draw this September? Thank you!
Hi Brit,
My mother was chosen for DV21 and I’m under 21 so I also qualify. I’m currently under F-1 in the States though. Does that mean I have to go home and process the GC case there or can I do AOS?
You should decide whether you are adjusting status or not, if you are, then the DS260 is not required, but is optional. You would not file it yet, but might once your number gets closer.
Hi Brit, I came to know recently that I got selected for Dv lottery 2020 and have time till september 30. Am I eligible to process further? Am i late to process or how’s the chance? Please reply
As my case number is like on line 2600s. Some consultant said u have possibility. Does it make any difference ? Can you please share your experiences in my case ? Hoping for reply. Thanks
Hai Buddy, how many time u check your results before getting to know recently u were selected?
Did u check previous and was negative and later check it was positive for u?
July 8, 2020 at 02:40
Hi Brit,
Thank you for the hard work you do towards everybody here.
July 8, 2020 at 03:40
It’s too early to know. It’s also going to be a wacky year. So, be patient and see what we earn over the coming weeks.
July 8, 2020 at 07:16
Hi Brit, the word ” wacky year” broke my heart..im als a DV 2021 Winner with a case no of AS 1299* Just thought that travel ban will affect only frst three months..and it will process with in next 9 months…
July 3, 2020 at 18:36
Hi brit. I am currently in USA under F1 Visa and I won dv lottery 2021. What should I do? Should I consult with lawyer or I should fill DS 260 ?
July 3, 2020 at 20:31
Everything you need to know about adjustment of status is provided here:

June 24, 2020 at 20:30
Thank you
June 24, 2020 at 16:59
Thank you Sir.
June 24, 2020 at 20:03
Slow down your process and wait until we know more.
June 22, 2020 at 21:23
Hi my name is taibou I have been issued a visa in March but I didn’t travel to the USA until the pandemic came now my visa will expires in August I am wondering to lose my visa will there be a way to extend the visa or what should I do please
June 22, 2020 at 21:30
The visa can be extended after it expires, BUT you would be wise to travel if you can.
June 22, 2020 at 15:39
Hello from Mongolia. I have been selected for further processing in the DV 2021. My case number is AS00007XXX. My passport has expired in June, 2020 and I got new passport with new number. Also I changed my email address. Would it be better to inform KCC about these changes before submitting DS 260? Your answer would be highly appreciated.
June 22, 2020 at 19:30
No – just include them on the DS260. You should provide both old and new scans for the passport.
June 23, 2020 at 06:32
I forgot to ask about my case number? Is this a good number? When do you think I can start completing the online form?
June 23, 2020 at 13:25
It’s OK. You can start as soon as you want

Thanks a million! You are so helpful!
June 25, 2020 at 05:40
Dear Brit,
I am really confused about all these situations related immigrant ban extension, what do you think do I need to hold on submitting DS-260 form and wait? Or better file first and send documents, and then wait for interview time to be scheduled? Please give advice. My CN is AS00007XXX.
June 25, 2020 at 17:39
Please don’t ask me the same questions over and over.
June 21, 2020 at 13:15
Hi simon ,
I have question I won a do lottery 2021 with case number 44k and I’am from Morocco
In regards to the DS-260, on the ‘Education section’, I have a high school diploma and specialized technician diploma in the box the highest level of education what I put the high school diploma or specialized technician diploma (Vocations school)
June 21, 2020 at 19:36
Just pick a choice. It’s not an important question.
June 21, 2020 at 05:31
Hey , I have selected I start filling out DS-260 . My only problem is that my mum date of birth on my birthday is going while filling the DS-260 I puted her real birth day.
Is that going to affect my case?
Thank you..
June 21, 2020 at 18:32
No
June 20, 2020 at 02:49
Hello Sir,
My case number AF000007xx. I have already filled DS260 and sent it. Is that case number good? When am I like to be scheduled for interviews?
June 20, 2020 at 03:27
Yeah good number. Send documents soon if you want an early interview.
June 20, 2020 at 05:50
Dear sir,
I forgot to specify my case number AF000007xx is selection for DV2021 is there a possibility to be called for interviews this year? Can I start applying for police certificate because I have to get that from two countries or is it too early to do that?
June 20, 2020 at 17:30
If you complete your DS260 quickly and accurately, then send documents soon – yes you could get an interview later this year.
June 19, 2020 at 18:33
Hello sir,
In regards to the DS-260, on the ‘Parents section’, my mother’s maiden name is on my birth certificate instead of the surname after she got married to my dad. Is it ok if I use her marital surname?
or should I use her maiden name that’s on my birth certificate?
Cheers!
?
June 19, 2020 at 20:06
Either way is fine.
June 17, 2020 at 14:32
Hi Simon,
I hope you’re well? Greatly appreciate all the work that’s gone into your site. It’s been a huge help!
We’ve been selected for DV2021 EU17XXX. I am currently a serving member of the Army Reserve in our home country. Naturally I will have to fill in info of my weapons training from this. Would you think this might go against our application proceeding? Would it be best to retire from the army before submitting?
Thanks so much in advance.
June 17, 2020 at 18:43
The weapons training won’t be a problem, although at interview they may ask for proof that you are free to leave the military. I would NOT recommend retiring before the interview.
June 17, 2020 at 06:58
June 17, 2020 at 17:25
As long as both places are within the same country it won’t be a problem.
June 18, 2020 at 07:48
Hi simon ,
I won a dv lottery 2021 with case number of AF44000
1- When will the interview be scheduled?
2- I work as a self-employed contractor and I do not have an address. Upon completing a form DS260,They asks for a work address. What should I do in this case?
June 18, 2020 at 19:27
1. early/mid 2021
2. If you work from home, list that.
June 17, 2020 at 00:53
Hey Simon, been selected 2021, but looking at my selection letter I see ‘chargeability’ as New Zealand – where I now live/have citizenship – but this is not my country of birth. Looking back on my original E-DV application I selected ‘Austria’ as my country of birth (correct), but I selected NZ as country of eligibility – did I make a school boy error??
June 17, 2020 at 02:48
If you are not married to a Kiwi, and you have an OC number you are certain to be disqualified. 🙁
June 17, 2020 at 00:34
Hello Birt,
I have an E2 visa and live in the US with my wife having a spouse visa. I am selected for DV-2021 and the case number is AS10300’s. If I prefer to do AOS, do I need to file just the I-485 but not the DS260? Could you let me know what other documents I need to file to USCIS?
Your answers would be highly appreciated!
June 17, 2020 at 02:43
At the link below you will find a spreadsheet linked from the first post in that thread that details everything you need to know. Sm1smom is a DV AOS expert.

June 16, 2020 at 16:41
Hi Simon,
Ive been selected for the DV2020, case number 2020EU13xxx.
Many thanks,
Nina
June 16, 2020 at 19:20
I have no idea what to expect. This has never happened before…
June 16, 2020 at 19:55
Hi Simon,
Thanks for your reply, but does this mean applications are being processed as normal and interviews are taking place currently?
Sorry if this might sound stupid but my understanding based on website information is that there are no immigrant visas being issued at the moment? Am I wrong?
That’s why I did not chase this up any further with the KCC and embassy, as I thought the whole visa immigration has come to a halt…
June 16, 2020 at 22:43
No interviews are happening or even being scheduled because the embassies are closed. So – I don’t know when embassies will reopen and what will happen once they do.
June 15, 2020 at 14:52
I wish i had come across this page earlier. i just got informed of your page Brit. what advice will you give me as i filled my DS260 form already and have a case number of AF85XXX. Do i stand a chance?
June 15, 2020 at 22:50
It is too early to be certain – but there is certainly risk.
June 15, 2020 at 14:19
Good Day Simon.
I will like to know if i made a mistake with ths.
please i need your help with this.
June 15, 2020 at 22:47
1, No problem
2. It’s a very high number – which means you are at risk.
3. No
4. No problem
June 15, 2020 at 11:58
Hello Simon,
Thank you for your helpful advices about dv program.
My case number is 2021EU00006XXXX, after results I have been married now I’m pregnant and expecting to give birth in December. In Ds 260 form there is no option for pregnant in the part of family. Should I continue with my ds form and documents and add later the baby?
June 15, 2020 at 22:34
Yes
June 15, 2020 at 10:02
June 15, 2020 at 19:11
1. “Yes”
2. If you don’t know – say you don’t know.
3. Your case number is fairly high, all you can do is wait
June 15, 2020 at 05:00
Hi Simon,
This site has been a wealth of knowledge, thank you so much.
June 15, 2020 at 05:10
Yes – don’t submit until we know more.
June 16, 2020 at 00:27
Hi Kristy,
I am also within OC region and gave a case number 29XX – I have seen some others in OC with high case numbers (3250+) – holding out to see how many have been selected as BritS has said, looks like there may be higher % of hole due to new passport rule (fingers crossed!)
June 16, 2020 at 17:34
The rate of holes is NOT about the new passport rule. The increased hole rate was observed in DV2020 – and that was before the passport rule. So – in some regions I expect an increase of denials at interview due to the new passport rule, but I don’t think that will be much impact in OC.
June 16, 2020 at 18:25
Do you mean people who did not submit with a passport are part of the selectees fir DV2021 and might only be denied at interview.
June 16, 2020 at 19:24
Yes. Those people have the right to “argue their decision”. It will be a costly mistake…
June 14, 2020 at 23:17
Hello!
On the DS260, for the question ‘full name in native alphabet’, do I write my full name that I’ve already entered, or just select ‘does not apply’? I’m from New Zealand and my name is just the standard English format the form asks for.
Thanks!
June 15, 2020 at 03:19
No need to write anything
June 14, 2020 at 14:02
hello sir,
i won the DV2021 with my kid because i am divorced but in the lottery i made a mistake with my kid date of birth, the original one is 20/06/2015 but when i applied for the lottery i submit with 2016 instead of 2015, is that a big problem and may affect my eligibility and what to write on the DS-260 to continue with the mistaken date of birth or can i write the correct one and is it safe to correct without rendering my CN ineligible?
June 14, 2020 at 18:50
Not a problem. Enter it correctly in the DS260.
June 14, 2020 at 08:28
Hi Brit good morning can I send for you my confirmation you check for me pls am so stress from 6th June 2020 am checking and results invalid why?
June 13, 2020 at 23:39
Hi BritSimon,
I have been selected for the DV2021 lottery.
June 14, 2020 at 00:58
June 15, 2020 at 00:13
Hi BritSimon,
Thanks for the speedy reply,
1. in response to question 1 are you saying that the number is so high that I may not stand the chance of receiving an interview?
2. How would I know where my odds stand if that were the case?
June 15, 2020 at 03:22
1. Yes
2. We will know a little more in a few weeks. There is no point in you rushing into anything – this is a long process.

June 13, 2020 at 18:18
Your level of intelligence is on a whole different level Brit ?
June 13, 2020 at 19:05
Ha. That could mean a level below or a level above other people! Who knows, huh. 🙂
June 13, 2020 at 13:21
Hello Brit I have a question on filling personal information on ds260 : is this how they are supposed to appear
Surnames
1.AAA
Given names
2. JJJ OOO
Full name in native alphabet
3. AAA JJJ OOO
June 13, 2020 at 17:50
Normally, in most languages/countries name would be like this:-
3. JJJ OOO AAA
But you do what makes sense in your country.
June 13, 2020 at 12:13
Hi Brit! Thank you for the info. Been selected for DV2021 and very excited. Would you consider AF36*** a safe CN? It may be early to predict but when can i expect an interview?
June 13, 2020 at 17:42
Judging by previous years, yes that sounds safe – but before we predict anything we need more information. So wait a few weeks.
https://britsimonsays.com/explaining-dv2021-case-numbers/
June 11, 2020 at 21:56
In the event that your interview is due when your unexpired passport isn’t qualified for renewal yet, but also wouldn’t meet the requirement of an applicant having to submit an unexpired passport which will still be valid for 6 months beyond your intended date of entry in the U.S.A as stated by the embassy, would it affect your chances of you being issued the visa.
2) If the answer is yes, what can be done in dealing or avoiding such a situation.
June 12, 2020 at 01:39
No problem. You simply renew and show proof of the old passport as well as show the new one.
June 11, 2020 at 14:39
Hi Smon
I have been selected for 2021, my case number is 2021EU000022XX. Can I start the process od DS 260 application. And is it a good number?
June 12, 2020 at 00:23
Yes & Yes
June 18, 2020 at 18:50
Dear Simon,
Thank you for your words of wisdom. God bless you!
June 12, 2020 at 17:55
European selectee here too. Case number 2021EU000065XX. Would like to stay in touch if you want as you are the first one from Europe I have came across
June 19, 2020 at 17:47
Many thanks,
~Murali
June 19, 2020 at 20:02
1. Why do you need that? There is no quota per country.
2. Myth
3. In the next visa bulletin or two.
June 20, 2020 at 07:10
Dear Sir,
First of all thank you for all your patience.Secondly, from my understanding when any country was issued with 55K DV’s starting from 1999 (e.g. India) I feel they will automatically become ineligible. Am I correct?
Thank you!
June 20, 2020 at 17:32
No – you are on the right lines. Countries with more than 50k immigrants in all classes are excluded.
June 11, 2020 at 09:39
Hi Brit, what will be your advice for a case number 2021AF73XXX. I have read and understood the process and planning to get some few things like vaccinations and police reports before I submit next year. I understand your video perfectly and thanks for the details but can i go ahead and submit and just wait till they are ready to call me for an interview?
June 11, 2020 at 22:17
The number is high, so although you should not wait until current, you should not rush to submit either. Wait a few weeks so we can see how many selectees there are.
June 15, 2020 at 21:18
Dear Brit,
My case # is 2021AF74XXX.
I already submitted DS260. My 2 kids passport will expire in July. Is it ok to request KCC to unlock DS and update my kids passport details after getting new passports? Please advice.
Thank you sir,
Murali
June 16, 2020 at 00:13
Yes.
June 16, 2020 at 07:38
Thank you sir, Will request KCC to unlock my DS260.
June 17, 2020 at 16:58
Dear Simon,
My case # is 2021AF74XXX.
Thank you sir,
You are a life saver!
June 17, 2020 at 19:00
1. Yes
2. Both at interview and also to KCC. But your case number is very high meaning you have to wait around a year anyway, so why worry about rushing???
3. It would be a good thing, but the VB at the moment is for DV2020, NOT DV2021.
June 10, 2020 at 15:52
Hello BritSimon
I got selected for the DV2021, im from Venezuela and my passport expired last February. There is an agreement with US Government (based on Venezuela politics current situation) that expired passports from Venezuela would be accepted for up to 5 years after expired date, by any chance, do you know if this apply to the DV process also?
Regards
Miguel
June 11, 2020 at 00:42
I believe so, yes.
June 10, 2020 at 15:09
Thank you for taking the time to share all of this precious information with us.
June 11, 2020 at 00:30
It ios too early to know how high that number really is. I recommend not submitting your DS260 yet until we know more in a month or two.
June 10, 2020 at 12:33
Hi Simon,
I’ve now watched all three videos you’ve uploaded for DV2021 winners, and I’m taking the core message of slow down, don’t rush, and don’t make mistakes to heart.
Guy
June 11, 2020 at 00:08
OK – some points.
June 11, 2020 at 00:54
Thanks Simon – the proof of education isn’t an issue, we both completed the equivalent of a high school education in the UK and HK respectively before going onto University.
June 11, 2020 at 01:44
Sounds good.
June 10, 2020 at 05:12
Hi BritSimon
Thank you
Kate
June 10, 2020 at 22:21
It’s not complicated and the answer from the call center was complete BS.
YOu don’t “miss your spot”. Cases are processed by case number, and people that submit late will go to the front of the line once their DS260 and documents are processed. . I had asked you yesterday about your case number, because if your case number is high, there is absolutely no advantage in rushing to submit.
So again – what is your case number with region?
June 9, 2020 at 12:52
Dear Brit,
Thank for your information!
June 9, 2020 at 19:46
1. Middle.
2. No need to rush. Read more before completing the form.
3. Yes – for that I would say wait until the birth to complete the DS260 – just because it is a little easier to complete the form for all at the same time.

Hi Mr Simon.. your advice will be highly appreciated.. am a winner as a couple with one kid,..at the moment we are not in good terms with my wife and am preparing for divorce ..
Will this have anegative impact on the case ..please advise me
June 10, 2020 at 23:04
Not really.
June 9, 2020 at 12:45

@EU23K.

No problem. Just make sure it is correct in the DS260
June 9, 2020 at 21:25
Hi Brit, thanks for the advice. But I did not do the correction of my age on the DS 260 form before submitting! Can I make the correction now on my DS260? Or late to do so? Thanks so much and my appreciation! Hi
June 9, 2020 at 22:12
You rushed your DS260. Email KCC and unlock and fix it, but before you resubmit, learn what the heck you are supposed to do to make sure you don’t make more mistakes.
June 9, 2020 at 08:43
Same issue with the signing of the DS260, with respect to removing the redundant zeros from the case number.
2021OC2xxx worked as per the advice of previous years.

Thanks for confirming.

Hi Brit I am from Eritrea and won the lottery for 2021. Can you please advice what is the status for Eritrea citizens?
June 9, 2020 at 15:12
For people from banned countries a wise thing would be to wait until November.

June 9, 2020 at 15:07
Stepchild is fine.
June 10, 2020 at 02:28
Thanks for the reply.
June 10, 2020 at 03:40
Yes the embassy may ask for custody/consent paperwork.
June 8, 2020 at 21:23
Hi Brit, I would like to know if a spouse who happens to be a derivative, is required to present any document covering his or her initial marital status, if he or she has ever been divorced before finally settling down with the primary applicant or that is a requirement solely for the primary applicant to submit documents pertaining to his/her present and past marital status upon winning the lottery.
June 8, 2020 at 22:13
If either was previously married both applicants have to submit divorce documents.

June 8, 2020 at 22:04
Others are getting the same thing. Relax and wait a few days.

June 8, 2020 at 21:17
It is too early to know that. Ask in November.
June 8, 2020 at 17:50
Please, is it there a chance for a second draw? How many times do I need to check my results especially if I’m not selected?
June 8, 2020 at 21:06
Check once more in November.

I have a friend of mine who is Libyan citizen and won the lottery for 2021. Can you please advice what is the status for Libyan citizens?
June 8, 2020 at 21:04
Banned. If Trump loses in November things will hopefully change in January to remove the ban.

Hi Brit,
My mother was chosen for DV21 and I’m under 21 so I also qualify. I’m currently under F-1 in the States though. Does that mean I have to go home and process the GC case there or can I do AOS?
June 8, 2020 at 15:46
Going home would be fastest/best.
July 3, 2020 at 12:20
Hi Brit. I am currently in states with f1 Visa and I won dv 2021. Should I fill DS260 or not
July 3, 2020 at 14:24
You should decide whether you are adjusting status or not, if you are, then the DS260 is not required, but is optional. You would not file it yet, but might once your number gets closer.
June 8, 2020 at 05:13
Visa soon to expire (next month)….no international flight yet…. Embassy still closed…
June 8, 2020 at 01:51
Hi Brit, I came to know recently that I got selected for Dv lottery 2020 and have time till september 30. Am I eligible to process further? Am i late to process or how’s the chance? Please reply
June 8, 2020 at 02:34
It is probably too late to start the process now.
June 10, 2020 at 02:58
As my case number is like on line 2600s. Some consultant said u have possibility. Does it make any difference ? Can you please share your experiences in my case ? Hoping for reply. Thanks
June 10, 2020 at 03:44
Doesn’t make any difference. The embassies are closed, there is a huge backlog of cases that submitted months ago and you are very late.
June 10, 2020 at 15:06
Hai Buddy, how many time u check your results before getting to know recently u were selected?
Did u check previous and was negative and later check it was positive for u?
