The new lottery process for DV2022 starts today! Many people will get the fantastic news and begin their lesson in “patience” today. Existing winners will know what I mean.
By the way – speaking of being patient, the ESC website will certainly have some performance problems for the first few hours. If that happens, you can get frustrated and keep trying OR try again after a few hours. I would take the second option!
The entry checking site will open at noon EDT today (May 8, 2021), and of course the site will be unbearably busy and unstable for a few hours because everyone will try and check at the same time. Happens every year.
So if the site doesn’t respond, just wait a few hours. The link for checking is here https://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC
I created a video to introduce new winners – I hope it helps!
Also for those that stuggle to check their case accurately – check out this video:

Congrats Britsimon for the good work you have been doing. This year has been our year again. My wife won DV2022 with AF35XX. My concern is: The surname of her birth certificate and school certificates is different from her passport and submission entry. On submission entry and her passport she use my name as surname (husband name after legally married). We have been married more than 8 years and have 3 kids.
Will this be a problem during interview?
By the way we need to pray so that Embassies can resume to work and process visa normally after this COVID 19 effects.

May 11, 2021 at 10:56
That being said, on filling ds260, there is no need to fill other names section. What I suppose to do is just to fill Surname and Given names as per letter. My thinking, on other names sections, I should fill in her original surname, First name and Middle name as per her birth certificate and schools certificates.
Please advise If I am correct.
May 11, 2021 at 16:52
The DS260 should have her current legal name AND the other names section should be used if needed. For instance, If she married and took your name, her birth cert and education documents would show her maiden name, but her current legal name should be the new married name (and that should be in the passport). KIn gthat case the new name is the legal name and the previous name should be in the other names section. So – make sure you are thinking about this correctly.
May 11, 2021 at 17:59
Thank you.Well understand.Situations as of now is,Passport have legal husband name.Birth and Education maiden name.
May 10, 2021 at 13:18
hello, i am the winner of dv 2021, CN: EU5500, if i do not receive an appointment at the embassy by 30 September, can i apply for dv 2023?
May 10, 2021 at 14:22
Of course you can
May 11, 2021 at 00:15
Yes of course.
May 10, 2021 at 14:27
Is GCE O level enough for education?
May 10, 2021 at 16:18
May 11, 2021 at 00:18
That depends on the education system for the country you are in…
May 10, 2021 at 17:01
I won the DV 2022 but when the fill the DV lottery I am married but don’t have a child. But now my wife is pregnant, she will give birth after 2 months, so shall I wait and fill my DS-260 after my new baby is born.
May 11, 2021 at 00:25
May 12, 2021 at 16:55
I have also the same scenario and I saw people with similar cases in the group. Thanks Simon for explanation. So, it is better to wait until birth and submitted latter (DS-260).
May 10, 2021 at 17:50
I got selected my case number AS21xxx
Is it a bad number?
May 11, 2021 at 00:26
It might be a little high. It is too soon to be certain – so wait and see when we know more.
May 11, 2021 at 07:41
So, shall I hold DS 260 form? My wife is also expecting to deliver by nov21.
May 11, 2021 at 15:47
Then yes. You could submit after the birth, and make no difference to your interview date because the case number means you will be waiting anyway. So by that time you will know more about numbers and you can include the baby from the outset. Much simpler.
May 10, 2021 at 20:35
I was lucky for DV 2022, I got selected,
among the documents there police certificate of each country i had lived in ,I studied in India for 4 years
1.India only provide police certificate to current residents, it’s been almost 5 years since I left India
What can I do about this issue.
May 11, 2021 at 00:36
What does the reciprocity page for India say?
May 10, 2021 at 21:56
HI I’ve been checking the lottery entrance status and the error message keeps popping up since yesterday. I already watched your video and you were really specific about writing down the right information, and i have been doing that EXACTLY. Ive been copying and pasting the info.
May 11, 2021 at 00:40
Use the forgot confirmation number link to check your details.
May 10, 2021 at 22:09
An Australian DV2022 winner here (000018xx). I’m a bit panicked at the moment and needed some advice before submitting the ds260. On the DV application and all my official government documents (passport, drivers licence, warrant card, federal security clearance) I have one middle name listed. When checking my birth certificate last night, I realised I had a second middle name which I have forgotten about and never ever used which is not present on any other official document. What should I do? This is the sixth time I’vec applied for the DV lottery and the first time I’ve won and I’m worried it may get denied. Thanks.
May 11, 2021 at 00:41
That’s not a problem, you simply list the additional name in the DS260
May 10, 2021 at 23:32
Yesterday I checked the DV Lottery-2022 results, and found out that I had been selected.
Unfortunately, this joy is somewhat darkened by the fact that I misunderstood the field “Passport”. I put in the info about my internal passport, not the travel international one which is needed, apparently.
What are the chances for my application and me to make it to the interview, and get a visa, hence, a green card?
Is there ANY way they let me proceed?
May 11, 2021 at 03:13
You obviously have some risk of being disqualified – but you may only find out at interview.
May 11, 2021 at 00:31
Is it possible to check your results for the first time and not win and check for the second time and win?
May 11, 2021 at 03:09
Yes – after some months. Possible but VERY unlikely. It only happens in some years where they add a second draw.
May 11, 2021 at 01:32
Thanks for all this useful info.
ive been selected for the dv lottery 2022 (OC13XX). I wanted to ask based on past years if this number would be successful for an interview?
Also, my passport is due to expire this year. Should I wait till I get a new passport before entering those details. Or input my old passport and bring the new passport along to the consulate if I’m lucky enough for an interview?
May 11, 2021 at 03:06
In a normal year that number would be OK.
You have time to wait anyway so renew the passport keeping a copy of the old one.
May 11, 2021 at 03:15
Hi Simon. Thanks for your response. So it’s okay to hold off on submitting my application?
May 11, 2021 at 05:14
May 12, 2021 at 05:25
Hi Simon. If I fill out the DS-260 with my new passport details will that affect my entry? or should I fill out with my expiring passport (which I entered into the initial lottery) and then bring both passports to the interview?
May 12, 2021 at 16:57
When you complete the DS260 you complete it with up to date information at that time. So if you have a new passport, you use that, but send old and new passports when you send in documents or at the interview.
May 12, 2021 at 02:23
This is exactly the same situation as me, Christopher! My passport is expiring this year AND my case number is OC13XX too! How funny – thanks for getting my questions answered for me 🙂
May 12, 2021 at 04:09
Oh that’s amazing! Let’s get connected! What’s the best way? 🙂
May 12, 2021 at 21:26
Chris, do you have instagram? Message me on there (since I don’t really mind who has that) and then I’ll give you my email address. Does that work? @katefarinax
May 12, 2021 at 06:40
I am dv2021 winner will CN 32*** but up to now I have not submitted my ds260. Is there any problem with that ? and I am planing to submit it on Friday May 14, 2021, if I submitted it on Friday you think how long with it take for my case to be ready for interview ?
I look forward hearing from you soon?
May 12, 2021 at 17:05
Every case it at risk right now because they clearly are not scheduling enough cases to issue enough visas. So – you can submit the DS260 if you want, as long as you understand the risks are high that you will not get a Greencard.
By the way, if you do submit, you should join Curtis Morrisons lawsuit.
May 11, 2021 at 04:32
Hi, i applied to my Sudanese cousin who was born in Yemen. At the time of the application back in October Yemen was disqualfied from entry. So, we put Sudan as her country of eligability. Now that she won the DV of thsi May, we are asking about the chances of her getting the visa as her case is AF and not AS, knowing the following
1. she is a single mom with no Sudanese kids (will having minor kids excempt her from being disqulaified)
2. both of her parents are Sudanese who were residing in Yemen for a short duration of a few years and back to sudan afterwards.
awaiting your positive feedback
May 11, 2021 at 05:13
It is a pity that you were advising your cousin. You got everything wrong. Yemen was NOT banned from the lottery, and neither of your points gave her the ability to apply as Sudanese. She will be disqualified, and there is no fix.
May 11, 2021 at 06:55
2. Can I still apply if I was not born in a qualifying country?
There are two circumstances in which you still might be eligible to apply. First, if your derivative spouse was born in an eligible country, you may claim chargeability to that country. As your eligibility is based on your spouse, you will only be issued an immigrant visa if your spouse is also eligible for and issued an immigrant visa. Both of you must enter the United States together using your DVs. Similarly, your minor dependent child can be “charged” to a parent’s country of birth.
Second, you can be “charged” to the country of birth of either of your parents as long as neither of your parents was born in or a resident of your country of birth at the time of your birth. People are not generally considered residents of a country in which they were not born or legally naturalized, if they were only visiting, studying in the country temporarily, or stationed temporarily for business or professional reasons on behalf of a company or government of a country other than the one in which you were born.
If you claim alternate chargeability through either of the above, you must provide an explanation on the E-DV Entry Form, in question #6.
Listing an incorrect country of eligibility or chargeability (i.e., one to which you cannot establish a valid claim)
May 11, 2021 at 15:22
Yes I understand what it says in the instructions. However, the instructions don’t cover the precise wording of the law, nor the exact implementation. Yemen was not banned, so the exception listed about parents country does not apply.
Feel free to tell your cousin to apply and spend the money. You already advised her badly, you may as well waste her money too. Sorry to be blunt, but why you went down that path is beyond me.
May 11, 2021 at 06:57
This is the criteria
Having her parents or minor
Can u pls elaborate for both
May 11, 2021 at 15:29
I have articles in the FAQ that explain this. Read them.
May 11, 2021 at 16:03
yemen was under the former president Trump muslim ban at that time
May 11, 2021 at 19:02
That is not banned from the lottery entry! Like I said – you were incorrect, and advised your cousin badly.
May 11, 2021 at 06:20
Just to seek some clarification, because I’m hearing different things from different people. A friend who was from Sydney was in the late 800s informed me she submitted her application straight away and it took her 11 months to get an interview.
I’m also from sydney and my number is (OC13xx) for the 2022 lottery. What’s the longest I should wait before submitting the DS-260?
May 11, 2021 at 06:31
You could wait a few months if you want. Submitting now won’t speed up your case.
May 11, 2021 at 06:46
Hi! Australian 2022 selectee here after trying for the past 2 years. I am incredibly excited and I feel very blessed for such an opportunity. My case number is OC8XX – I hate to ask because I know it gets so repetitive but should I be confident with that case number? I’m also thinking of submitting my DS-260 within the next week or so, is that a good or a bad idea or doesn’t really matter? Look forward to hearing from you. I really appreciate the work you do, it’s beyond incredible so thank you.
May 11, 2021 at 15:15
Number is fine, yes you can submit soon if you want an “early” interview – early meaning early 2022 in your number range.
May 11, 2021 at 08:15
I am a DV 2022 winner, I can’t start filling DS260 form because the website is unavailable, whenn will it open ? Thanks
May 11, 2021 at 15:52
A few days time most likely. It’s simply overworked.
May 11, 2021 at 15:09
I have check my but I still get the message error not valid why I don’t understand
May 11, 2021 at 17:35
There is a video above that should help.
May 11, 2021 at 15:41
So sad to loose the opportunity in DV 2020 and not also seleted for DV 2022. God time is the best, wish u guys good luck to all DV 2022
May 11, 2021 at 16:53
hello, I am trying to check my status, I enter all the data correctly, but every time the system wrote: The information entered is not valid. What can I do? thank for helping
May 11, 2021 at 20:27
You need to be more clear about which system you are checking and so on.
May 12, 2021 at 00:30
what do you mean which system? I am checking DV 2022 and enter the information about it. thank you
May 12, 2021 at 04:32
OK – so watch the second video above.
May 12, 2021 at 17:36
thank you so much for help.
May 11, 2021 at 17:08
Hi Brit ,will there be a second draw on dv 2022 or I wait next application?
May 11, 2021 at 20:27
It is too early to know. But we will know more before the October entry period.
May 11, 2021 at 19:14
Hello! What do you think about case number 13200 from Nepal, do i still have some chances?
May 11, 2021 at 21:18
Nepal numbers seem to go higher this year than previous years. It would be complete speculation to assume what that means – so it is too soon to ask or answer your question.
May 11, 2021 at 19:33
I told you earlier that I was selected in DV2022 yet having a running application for DV2021. I have been trying to access my DV2021 Ds260 but I am failing to access it. I have tried several times since Sunday but I get a similar message of “your request cannot be processed at this time”.
Is there a problem I should be worries about?
May 11, 2021 at 21:21
May 11, 2021 at 22:53
I’m a DV2022. I’m really concerned about something and wanted your opinion. More than 30 years ago as a juvenile (16-17 years of age), I got into trouble with the Police on three occassions. It was for minor stuff like throwing eggs at end of school celebrations as well as scratching a seat. All offences resulted in no convictions being recorded. As an adult, I have not had any negative interactions with police and have held high government security clearances etc. If these incidents from the late 1980’s are listed on my national police check, will I be automatically disqualified?
May 11, 2021 at 23:01
Worrying for nothing.
May 11, 2021 at 23:17
I’m (OC13xx) I live in Sydney.
Are my odds better for an interview because the consulates are running fairly smoothly here/Melbourne?
May 11, 2021 at 23:21
Yes of course.
May 11, 2021 at 23:46
My case number is 2022AS18*** i was porn in yemen is this is a good number?
May 12, 2021 at 04:31
It is too soon to know anything.
May 12, 2021 at 00:41
HI brit am a 2022 winner,I didn’t add my wife and kids when I registered because they won’t be going with Me.secondly I didn’t complete my senior high education but have a journalist certificate and a journalist now and have been to the US severally. Is my qualification OK to secure the and since my family won’t be going with Me do I need to send the marriage certificate,we been married for 6 years
May 12, 2021 at 04:33
You failed to follow the very clear instructions that said you had to include your derivatives. You will be disqualified. There is no way to fix this.
May 12, 2021 at 06:29
Hi Britt I am a DV 2021 winner…. My passport is expiring in August so I got a new one this May…. should I change my passport details in my DS-260…. my DS-260 is currently unlocked as I had to add my new born daughter
May 12, 2021 at 17:01
If it is unlocked, yes change the passport details.
May 12, 2021 at 06:55
Good luck for us dv2022 hope we won’t have a though year like the other dv s
May 12, 2021 at 09:34
While filling curtismorisson lawsuit, I was asked to enter my case number. Sould I enter it with the leading zeros or without them?
Ex: 2021AF000072**** or 2021AF72***
May 13, 2021 at 03:16
I don’t know – ask them.
May 12, 2021 at 10:03
At what point in the year will we know wherever our case numbers are good or not so good? Mine is within 20K for Europe.
May 13, 2021 at 03:19
20K EU is not high
May 12, 2021 at 12:45
Hi britsimon, what does draw selection means?,does it means reselection to those who were not selected or all those who applied including the selected ones?
May 13, 2021 at 03:26
I don’t understand your question.
May 12, 2021 at 17:36
You said that you didn’t understand the case number I wrote.
Once again I am a winner of the DV 2021 from Africa. My case # is 2021af0007677. I want to know if I will get schedule for interview? The bulletin has gone current and I can’t see any specific cutoff number.
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
May 13, 2021 at 04:27
Ok so that is a low number, if your documents are processed, and your embassy is working, you might get an interview. I suggest you consider the lawsuit though.
May 12, 2021 at 20:57
Hello Simon, thanks for all the good work you’ve been putting in for all the winners throughout the years.
To all the DV2022 selectees, congrats! 🙂
@Simon In your yt video about case numbers you said It’s VERY LIKELY that EU selectees under 20.000 CN will be scheduled for interviews, and that with those numbers you don’t have to panic that you will not get your GC (at least for the reason of having a too high CN – therefore not getting an interview in time before sept.30)
Can I, in your respected opinion, officially stop with worrying about my number and be optimistic or do I stop celebrating being selected and bite my nails until the very last quarter of the game? 🙂
Thanks in advance
May 13, 2021 at 05:17
It’s too early to assume there will be a victory – the visa is safe once its in your hands.
May 13, 2021 at 05:00
I have been trying my luck ten tears in a row is it that im not lucky in winning the lottery ir im not doing something right.
May 13, 2021 at 05:23
The chance of select is about once in 200 years.
May 13, 2021 at 05:50
You are doing a really amazing job to help people globally understand about DV Lottery, including myself.
I applied for dv2022 after thoroughly watching your videos last year.
I am a university graduate in computer engineering from Russia and have worked in United States as a Principal Cybersecurity Architect with no criminal record. I was born in Africa where I am eligible. But I am a Canadian citizen living here for the past 17 years and the only passport I have is Canadian. I included my wife and daughter as well.
I was not selected.
Could the photographs been the problem? I used a professional photographer who has a studio and knows very well about green card photo sizes.
May 14, 2021 at 00:05
It is a lottery – very few people are lucky enough to be selected – about 1 in 200.
So – you should not assume there was a problem – you probably just did not get selected – like 199 people out of each 200.
May 13, 2021 at 08:32
I am very sorry sir. I mistakenly wrote the number. The case # is 2021AF00076772.
And furthermore, I don’t understand the lawsuit issue. Kindly explain the lawsuit issue to me in detail. Who are we paying that amount of money to?
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
May 14, 2021 at 00:15
Please read my article from yesterday or watch the video on that article.
May 14, 2021 at 05:14
Hi, I was just wondering if there was any deadline with regard to completing the DS-260. My problem is that I’m awaiting the arrival of some documents which are vital with regard to completing the DS-260 accurately. If I were to provide some information now which would later turn out to be incorrect, I don’t want to jeopardise my chances. The docs will take about two weeks?. What should I do?
May 14, 2021 at 06:18
DV2022? You could wait months with no harm.
May 15, 2021 at 01:16
Hello dear SIMON, thank you for your work.svp I am a winner of the 2020 American lottery dv with a case number 50 *** the procedure had not yet been completed, I have now won the 2022 dv lottery with all my family , the woman and my son, please remember that I have dual nationality, 1- Do you know the cases where families have dual nationality and have had visas, 2- I can establish the nationality and passport of my choice between the two to my child where only the passport of the country that I used to play, 3-On our marriage certificate obtained before the games there is the nationality of the country whose passport I did not use but I have this nationality , is this a problem for us?
May 15, 2021 at 04:21
2. Choose which passport to use.
May 15, 2021 at 08:30
Hey BritSimon, nice blog.
My brother is married with no kids and moved to his wife’s country before they got married. His country of origin is eligible. However, he claimed eligibility based on his wife’s country of birth (where they both currently reside) and she will be accompanying him should they get a visa. Seeing that he is eligible through his country of birth but also through his accompanying spouse’s country of birth. Did he royally screw up on the application or no?, it’s worth mentioning that his country of chargeability on the letter is listed as his country of birth
May 15, 2021 at 16:00
You are a little confused in how you are saying this.
I think you mean he entered his birth country accurately, but in the next question chose his wife’s country of birth to charge to.
This was clarified back in 2015 and is called “elective cross charging”. I wrote about it here – https://britsimonsays.com/country-of-chargeability-for-dv-lottery/
May 16, 2021 at 05:49
Upon reading on that sneaky cross charging, I realized that both countries belong to the same region and according to other repliers and your response, you mentioned that such selection or mistake doesn’t make a difference since you didn’t gain anything you are not entitled to in the first place.
May 16, 2021 at 14:50
That is correct – although it doesn’t harm to for armed with the information in case the CO doesn’t know.
May 16, 2021 at 19:53
Awesome, thank you for your responses and wide knowledge. I will definitely reach out again if my family need further info.
May 15, 2021 at 12:38
Hi brit dv 2022 have low number than dv 2021 did you see high case numbers specially AF region ?
May 15, 2021 at 16:51
I have seen some high numbers but it is too soon to assume anything.
May 17, 2021 at 00:44
Hi Mr Simon
My spouse got selected in the DV 2022 lottery. Our case number is 2022OC000005xx.
Subsequently, we have submitted the DS-260 form. I understand that KCC takes approximately 3-4 weeks to respond.
However, do you think there will be delays in processing the DS-260 due to the pandemic? and;
Do you think there are chances of delays in interview as well?
May 17, 2021 at 17:26
There are certainly chances of delays. If you read about DV2021 cases it’s chaos right now. That won’t all get fixed overnight.
May 17, 2021 at 15:17
Is the Presidential Proclamation on Health Care no. 9945, enforced or might be anytime soon?
It basically states that applicants for an immigrant visa need to establish financial ability to obtain health insurance within 30 days of entering the US during their embassy interview with specific instructions on how the interviewer will question the applicant about it.
I read about it being halted temporarily but not fully repealed.
May 17, 2021 at 19:23
No longer a concern.
May 17, 2021 at 16:00
Hello Dear BRIT, please I was devist dv2020 with case number 50 *** my file could not be completed but I had had my kcc documents processed but never been to the embassy: 1- Must I necessarily mention the same information in my ds260? because i have dual nationality and nationality of country i didn t use passport to play games and won there is a serious error and i would like to give it up and only use one nationality now for dv2022 selection. please
May 17, 2021 at 16:15
I think that I was not very clear in my question. I had once submitted an application for entry into the USA by the dv lottery 2020, with the mention of dual nationality and now I see that a nationality has an error, 1- Must I always maintain the same information when I submit my first visa application, or put the correct information now, I remind you that the passport that I used to play the game and win before (2020) and now (2022) are the same and his nationality is the right one. or should I first proceed with the cancellation of this bad nationality that I had made in the old request? Thank you very much dear. I am very worried
May 17, 2021 at 19:35
I think yuou are overthinking this. Just tell the truth, if you have dual nationality, that is the truth.
May 17, 2021 at 18:47
Good luck to the selectees
May 18, 2021 at 14:30
I’m a 2022OC1XXX winner.
I’ve filled out the DS-260 but when I go to sign and send the form it keeps showing a red flag in my case number even though this is correct. I’ve tried calling a few times and have sent an email.
Would you know if this is normal? Or where I could find out about troubleshooting this?
May 18, 2021 at 14:33
Remove the leading zeros.
May 20, 2021 at 22:18
hi our guide, please for a devist who had submitted a request to the kcc but was not interviewed because his file number was high and no interview, if the embassy of his country will have information on his old request ?

My spouse was selected for the DV 2022 and our case number is in a two digits (2022AF000000XX). Now her current passport expires on June 30, 2021 and didn’t carry my surname during the application process coz we were not married until Nov. 1, 2020. Furthermore, we are awaiting a baby in a month. What do you advice us to do in this case?
May 21, 2021 at 02:48
It’s a great number, but I would personally wait until the baby is born and then submit DS260s for each of you.

Thank you for your kind help and support,
Regarding experience certificates Authentication ,Do I have to authenticate all experience certificates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? If I have experience certificates that cannot be authenticate by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, do I mention them in DS-260, knowing that I have a master’s degree.

Experience certificates are not normally needed.

OC2022 dv winner
I wanted to ask. 1. Do I need to bring along a certified copy of my old passport to my consulate interview, or will a photocopied version of this be suffice? 2. Will a postal manager/somebody who works at the post office be adequate for someone to certify the passport?
May 22, 2021 at 01:53
1. The original and a copy ideally.
2. A passport is an official document, why does it need to be certified?
May 22, 2021 at 02:00
I’m from Sydney. This is my first time renewing my passport. I’ve heard they cut the passport to make it invalid. If this is the case will it still be adequate identification?
May 22, 2021 at 02:15
They cut a small corner – the passport is still intact.

HI brit can I use the same picture twice for registration and also if I don’t send my original educational certificate but a copy will I be refused
May 25, 2021 at 02:00
The instructions answer the photo question.
The copy of the education document would normally be OK except if there is a fraud concern.
