OK – this is early days of DV2021, so it is too soon to know everything, but to help people understand about case numbers I put this video together.

Hi Brit!
How do you know which EU Region you are in?
If a case number for example is EU202100011234 (just making something up), does that mean its EU Region 1 or ?
June 9, 2020 at 17:40
There are 6 regions – AF, AS, EU, OC, SA, NA.
So, there is only one EU region.
June 9, 2020 at 11:09
Mr brit
my O level and 2 years higher national diploma in computing equal to us associate degree sufficient for the dvlottery requirement ?
i did not do my A level
June 9, 2020 at 17:56
It depends on your country requirements.
June 11, 2020 at 16:19
As LEVEL uk EQUAL TO A Level??
June 12, 2020 at 00:34
Ask google.
June 9, 2020 at 11:47
hullo Brit
1. Am a DV 2021 winner AF****5k
on the initial entry each played the lottery alone
Can I add my wife in the add applicant & she joins me later
June 9, 2020 at 19:39
That depends.
If you married since the original entry – then yes – no problem. You told the truth so all is good.
If on the other hand you were already married at the time of entry but you lied on the form to say you were single, then no you will be disqualified.
June 9, 2020 at 19:01
Hi Simon, I learned a lot from your videos thanks a lot. From your experience would you consider AS116xx safe? Would it depend on how many visas Iran and Nepal take?
June 9, 2020 at 21:53
For DV2021? That’s probably a good number.
June 10, 2020 at 03:41
Thank you sir! Yes its for DV2021. That’s a bit of a relief. But what I learned from your blog posts and comments for earlier years case numbers was that the numbers above AS10000 has a higher chance of not getting an interview.
June 10, 2020 at 03:51
AS highest numbers are about 35k this year. Things change year to year.
June 10, 2020 at 07:28
Thanks a lot for clarifying sir!
June 16, 2020 at 06:22
Is AS31xxx a high number?
June 16, 2020 at 18:19
Yes
June 10, 2020 at 21:38
What’s the dv lottery winners by counties
June 11, 2020 at 01:06
Not published yet.
June 9, 2020 at 20:02
Hi Brit. Thanks for your advice on these platform.
My wife has been selected case AF****5.
We don’t have passport for our 3 children. The govt office’s have been closed due to current pandemic. Should I go ahead with filling D’s 260. Then unlock after I get passport for the children
June 9, 2020 at 20:16
You can do that if you like, or just wait. Submitting now might end up with a slightly faster interview, but that doesn’t really make a difference.
June 9, 2020 at 20:37
I am trying to fill out the form DS-260 for a relative whose name was just selected for DV 2021 and he resides outside of US. After the submission of the first part of the form the message reads: Your request can’t be processed at this time. Am I doing something wrong? His AS number is close to 9,000. Also, should I fill out the form as a third party individual?
June 9, 2020 at 22:02
Try this.

June 9, 2020 at 21:25
Hi Brit and thanks.
I am from Iran and my case number is 2021As18***. Do I have a chance to interview. and furthermore to the Trump ban law can I have opportunity to have visa?
June 9, 2020 at 22:11
You will have to wait and see what happens with cases and the ban. If Trump loses in November you might get a chance.
June 9, 2020 at 21:44
Please sir Brits, after being selected from the random draw, is one going to receive any package from the state department?
June 9, 2020 at 22:21
No. You follow the instructions to process online.
June 9, 2020 at 22:46
Hello sir.
What do you think about cn AF432XX for dv2021
Is there any chances to have an interview before the end of the process?
June 9, 2020 at 22:54
Probably.
June 10, 2020 at 00:45
Dear Simon, I noticed something odd about 2021 results. A lot of people can’t get their results, & they showed screen shots of success entry process showing the confirmation, last name & birth year . I can send it to you if you want
June 10, 2020 at 03:25
Send me a couple then. britsimon3 at gmail
June 10, 2020 at 04:59
Hello brit what will happen for dv 2020 remaining cases?
June 10, 2020 at 05:01
Impossible to guess. Wait and see.
June 12, 2020 at 14:55
Buddhiman lama> ur case number? I’m also winner 2020 bt I haven’t get interview n any response so plz can I contact with you ? Give me your any Viber imo number .
June 10, 2020 at 08:21
I have the same issue with my sisters case. Everything is correct but it keeps saying “information not valid”.. I am sending it to you sir.
June 10, 2020 at 23:16
@Christian, your sisters one also has a problem and cannot be checked. Yousif sent me three earlier and they are all uncheckable too. I don’t know the scale of the problem yet, but there are clearly some cases that cannot be checked.
June 10, 2020 at 14:35
Hi Simon, I did send an email to you
June 11, 2020 at 00:20
Yep – and we have talked. For the benefit of others there are three accurate entries that Yousif provided that cannot be checked.
June 11, 2020 at 09:38
Hi Brit!Do you mind if I suggest you something according to my cousin experience? She was trying for 2 days to check the result but she couldn’t.It said “Information not valid”.Then she asked me if I could check for her. After trying for a couple of times,I got reminded that last year in a forum for dv lottery I saw that someone had made a mistake in the principal application on October. In the place of last name, had put the name and viceversa. When I tried with my cousin’s confirmation number, year of birth and her NAME,it came out the result “Not have been selected”.So I would suggest you to try the same thing with these cases who can’t have the result out.I know it’s weird but it worked out.She applied by herself, for her and her husband and are a family of six.Maybe she was confused when she did this mistake ??♀️
June 11, 2020 at 22:16
People need to enter the name BEFORE THE COMMA on the confirmation.
June 10, 2020 at 07:23
Hi Britsimon, Amazing Site. Extremely informative. I saw you did a post in 2018 about possible safe zones before certain case numbers per region. Do you plan to do the same again for 2021? Our number is 2021EU23K – do you feel this is within a safe zone?
June 10, 2020 at 23:05
I will do some analysis once we have data.
EU23k can’t be bad. Watch the video.
June 11, 2020 at 16:59
Thanks BritSimon, watched the video, great explanation of how it comes together. As you said, its time to wait and see, itll be 2021 before the CN is potentially current. Your website is a real goldmine of information. Thank you!
June 10, 2020 at 07:45
Hello my friend won the DV 2021 and has her husband and Child as Derivatives. But her husband’s passport has expired he has applied for renewal. Is it possible to fill the DS 260 using the expired one while waiting for renewal?
June 10, 2020 at 15:27
Helping Brit to answer this. As long as you have a valid passport during the interview, you can fill in the DS260 and make sure you go with both passports (expired one and current one) in the interview.
June 10, 2020 at 23:08
No. Wait for the new one. No need to rush.
June 10, 2020 at 10:31
Hi simon,
My husband is a DV2021 winner. I would like to seek your advice, I am 8 months pregnant and my baby will be arriving early next month. So Should I wait for the baby and submit my DS-260 form or submit the form and add the baby once born. My case number is OC000009XX
June 10, 2020 at 23:28
I would wait and enter once the baby is born. No advantage to rushing.
June 10, 2020 at 11:28
Hy Brit, my case number is AF70XXX.
please i have a chance to be selectes
June 10, 2020 at 23:40
YEAR!
June 10, 2020 at 11:28
is it true some people were selected initially then were deselected when checked again on DV 2021?
June 10, 2020 at 23:40
No – that sounds like BS
June 10, 2020 at 18:22
Hello, Simon. I’d just like your predictions/thoughts on the 2021 DV lottery. My case number is EU37xxx. With the highest case number in the EU region so far being around 50,000 and the lowest I’ve encountered so far being in the 4000 range, do you think I’d have a chance for an interview, judging from past experiences? Thanks!
June 11, 2020 at 00:50
It is too early to know. Numbers in themselves don’t mean anything. It’s number of selectees and cases that is important.
June 10, 2020 at 20:08
Hi Simon, thanks a lot for your help. My number 2021EU35xxx (Kazakhstan). Is it safe to get the interview?
June 11, 2020 at 00:58
I cannot say safe or not yet. Wait a month or two when we will have more info.
June 10, 2020 at 22:58
Hi Simon,
In the video you mentioned that “the last year there was a very dramatic change to the security procedures that increased massively the number of holes”. Do you mind elaborating on that? I know that for DV-2021 you had to add your passport information which was new (if I’m not mistaken). Is that what you are talking about?
June 11, 2020 at 01:12
No – there were additional screening measures that knocked out more cases. I can’t provide more detail than that, but I have described it in detail in January.
June 11, 2020 at 00:24
Hello hope you are fine, I got the number 2021SA000028XX and I am from Venezuela. Do you think I got high chance to get de visa? Thank you!
June 11, 2020 at 01:42
Well there is some risk as that is a high number, but we don’t know yet how many selectees have been chose – so wait for a month or two.
June 11, 2020 at 02:43
Hello,
My case number is OC13XX. The last few years, OC region has gone to ‘current’, but I’m still worried that my number is high – is there a chance I will still be interviewed?
Thanks
June 11, 2020 at 03:07
Sorry I just watched the video in full and realise this is a dumb question. Ignore me!
Thank you so much for the work you’re doing – you make a confusing and stressful process a lot easier, and I truly appreciate it!
June 11, 2020 at 03:10
It’s not high at all.
June 11, 2020 at 05:24
Hi Simon, thanks a lot for your help. My number 2021AF31xxx (Ethiopia). Is it safe to get the interview? And I am a refugee from Eritrea so is there any problem for the interview? Can I correct my name
June 11, 2020 at 17:48
1. Probably a good number – too early to know for sure.
2. If you are somehow affected by the travel ban you should delay your DS260 until the presidential election. If Trump loses it is a pretty safe bet that travel bans will be removed in 2021.
3. Yes
Please number questions.
June 11, 2020 at 05:37
Hi Brit
What is the risk of telling the case number for my friends?
I’m not clear on it?
June 11, 2020 at 17:55
In the past people have experienced problems from “friends” that are jealous. Those friends have got the case number, might know your DOB and full name, so then they can gain access to your DS260 and enter incorrect information there to try and mess you up.
June 11, 2020 at 20:03
Thanks Brit
But to gain an access to the DS-260
It also ask to fill the confirmation number
So if he don’t have it then he can’t access by only the case number and DOB??
June 12, 2020 at 01:01
Who knows what info you will share.
June 11, 2020 at 05:39
Sir
To know that the highest or lowest case number
Mine is AF10*** How is it?
When will be possible interview?
And chances of getting the visa?
June 11, 2020 at 17:59
YEAR?
June 11, 2020 at 20:08
Year?
Means
Is it highest case number?
No chance of getting the visa?
June 11, 2020 at 22:10
Man he’s asking you if you’re a winner of 2020 or 2021.Calm down!
June 12, 2020 at 11:07
Tnx for your support
June 12, 2020 at 11:06
Ooopps great apologies Mr. Brit

June 12, 2020 at 11:58

June 11, 2020 at 05:54
SIR my case number is AS26XX. DO I HAVE A HOPE
June 11, 2020 at 07:04
Hi Brit, won the dv 2021 with case number af5***. I have served in the Cameroon military for 10 years but without any secondary or high school certificate. Am i qualify by working expirence.
June 11, 2020 at 21:42
Military experience is very unlikely to qualify you unless you reached a high rank.
June 11, 2020 at 07:55
Hi Mr.Brit,
really appreciate your effort to help us
can i ask what is the meaning of “current“
I found As last year Current from June!
Thanks
Sir
June 11, 2020 at 21:59
Current means there are enough visas for all remaining cases. It’s covered in the FAQ. Please read that!
June 11, 2020 at 18:44
Dear Simon, if I got email from KCC that I have submitted all required documents, my case number would be current.
June 12, 2020 at 00:49
No – current is to do with your case number. Please read the FAQ
June 12, 2020 at 02:46
Hi Simon, thanks a lot for your help.
1- If case number 2021AS33xxx . Is it safe to get the interview? I know it’s too early to know but from last year’s experience is it good?
2- Also I noticed current status many times last years does that means all numbers made their interviews even high numbers ?
June 12, 2020 at 03:20
1. No its high.
2. Yes but each year is different. In a few weeks we will know more.
June 12, 2020 at 03:27
Hello Mr. Simon,
Recently, I came across your YouTube video channel and blogs. They are very informative and easy to understand, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for your great guidance.
We are family of 3. Myself, my wife and 2 years old son. Our high level details are as below –
1. We qualify for DV as far as education is concerned.
2. We qualify for DV as far as work experience is concerned.
3. Wife and I held Indian nationality in past.
4. We are now Canadian citizens.
5. Wife born in Kuwait, so we entered in DV-2021 and wife got selected.
6. Case number/rank is AS177XX.
Question –
Being Canadian citizens we can easily get TN-1 non-immigrant US visa. We wish to keep this option open in future.
Considering our case number do you think we have any chance of getting diversity visa(Green Card)? If we submit DS-260(expression of intention to immigrate to US) and unfortunately do not get DV(GC) then we may jeopardize our chances of getting TN-1(non-immigrant) visa in future.
Do you think we should go ahead and submit DS-260 and try our luck for GC? Please guide.
Thanks again!
June 12, 2020 at 04:20
There is no need to submit now. Just wait until we know more about case numbers.
June 12, 2020 at 21:05
Thank you!
1. Will it be too late to submit DS-260 if wait until we get DV numbers for January 2021?
2. Even after being selected for DV-2021, can we submit entry for DV-2022 too in coming October?
June 12, 2020 at 21:12
Sorry, I found the answer for my 2nd question in FAQ. Please answer 1st question. Thanks!
Putting answer from FAQ here for reference –
People ask various questions about entering DV-2017 or future lotteries – here are some example questions :-
“Can I apply for DV-2017 without it affecting my previous DV-2016 win (as I am waiting for interview)?”
No Problem. You can apply for DV-2017 with no impact to the DV-2016 you are already processing.
“I won a previous year but was not able to process my case, will that improve my chances of being selected for DV-2017?”
No – there is no connection – the draw is random. You have no better, or no worse chance of selection.
“I was interviewed and refused in a previous DV lottery – can I apply again for DV-2017?”
Yes you can. You must of course overcome whatever caused the refusal last time.
June 12, 2020 at 21:17
Sorry again, I found answer for my question 1st too in FAQ. Thanks!
From FAQ –
Question – What is the deadline to submit the DS260?
Answer – There is no formal deadline. People will be submitting their forms far into the DV year. The only concern is that at some point it would be too late to get the form processed. However, the speed of processing varies by case, so I cannot put a finite date on the last time to submit. I would suggest treating May of the DV year (almost 1 full year after the results are announced), but I have seen cases submitted in June still get through.
So – it is perfectly fine to delay submission of the DS260, and in some cases it can be advantageous to do so (for instance where people cannot emigrate before completing college etc) .
June 12, 2020 at 22:13
The FAQ is amazing huh.
June 12, 2020 at 22:05
1. No
2. Yes
June 13, 2020 at 02:56
Yes Sir! FAQ is amazing. This website is an encyclopedia of DV Lottery. I would like to help you in maintaining this website or whatever help you need with. I am also a software professional. Thanks again.
June 12, 2020 at 08:30
Hi Simon, thanks a lot for your help. My number 2021AF00058xxx (somalia). Is it safe to get the interview?
June 12, 2020 at 11:24
Watch the video.
June 12, 2020 at 17:04
Thanks a lot Brit. I get a lot of knowledge about DV. You completely guide us. Thanks again.
June 13, 2020 at 04:40
@Hopeful2021.
Hello Mr.Brit kindly help;I entered the dv2021 but now I can’t check my status because I lost my confirmation number.I went ahead and tried to retrieve it,but it says invalid entry.Have watched the links you gave, tried all means but it still says invalid. What might be the issue?please help.Thank you
June 13, 2020 at 05:07
I cannot guess what might be the issue – but most likely you are entering something wrong. That is the only method to retrieve the confirmation number.
June 13, 2020 at 14:24
Hello Simon my case number is AF85k should I fill the forms now? Should I wait and see?
June 13, 2020 at 17:56
Wait and see. No advantage in rushing.
June 13, 2020 at 06:51
Hi brit,
Very informative information there u making the process alot easier. Am sure my number is high AF82*** from Kenya are there really any chances of getting to the interviews?
June 13, 2020 at 17:16
At this point we don’t know how many selectees there are – so it is impossible to answer until we know more.
June 14, 2020 at 06:57
Sure, what was the highest case number in AF in dv 2020 and in dv 2019 were all case numbers interviewed?
June 14, 2020 at 16:18
Same answer. This year is this year.
June 13, 2020 at 11:51
IAM TOGOLESE AFRICA MY CASE NUMBER IS 2021AF00064XXX CAN I GET INTERVIEW
June 13, 2020 at 17:42

June 14, 2020 at 07:50
HI Brit,
Please i would like to know if there would be a second draw this year.
June 14, 2020 at 16:19
Check in November
June 14, 2020 at 12:13
Hi, we got a SA case number 43xx. Is that look bad for my chances?
June 14, 2020 at 18:45
It is too early to be sure, but yes it is a high number.
June 14, 2020 at 12:34
hello
My case number is AS14xxx does it have any chance for interview?
im from iran
as i see pervious visa bulutin i think most of asian curent about 11000
it meanes that we do not have chance ?
June 14, 2020 at 18:46
You are impacted by the travel ban right now – so you should hope Trump loses the election which would probably give you a chance to process your case next year.
June 14, 2020 at 14:38
Hi Brit, I have submitted my DS 260 form and my case number is AF26XXX. I want to make changes. I sent the email as u instructed, I received response from KCC about receiving my email but nothing about unlocking my DS 260 form. What’s your advice or do you think they will grant my request later?
June 14, 2020 at 18:55
Wait.
June 14, 2020 at 17:20
hey brit,
i am a selectee of DV 2021 from Nepal and got a confirmation number As00007XXX. what are my chances of getting my case processed? And how long do you think will i have to wait? When should i fill and submit my DS 260?
June 14, 2020 at 19:13
It’s fine – just a matter of being patienct. Fill in your DS260 over the coming weeks.
June 14, 2020 at 18:56
Im sorry for bothering, my number is SA 19xx.
I’ve read all your articles and watched all your videos (and I know, wait and see :), and this number is very high for SA but considering high numbers of selectees this year (4k+ for SA) and many holes do you think this is a good number?
Thanks for everything and sorry for bothering.
June 14, 2020 at 19:27
It is too early to be sure.
June 15, 2020 at 02:57
hey Brit,
thank you so much for your nice videos. Could you please let me know whether or not this case number
is risky? is it high?
I wanna know roughly when my interview would be. (I live in Germany but I am coming from Asia)
Case number: 2021AS00017XXX
June 15, 2020 at 03:38
As the video above explains, it is too early to know. Wait a few weeks.
June 15, 2020 at 07:15
Thanks for the video.
Are these fall-away estimates for holes, applications not being pursued and denials ballpark accurate or merely illustrative?
The reason I ask is my case number is around 1600 for Oceania. The DV statistics for Oceania between 2008 and 2017 seem to teeter around 550 to 850 visas issued per year/program. If approximately 45% of case numbers make it to the end, then presumably I’d be looking at about 720 case numbers before me (1,600 x 0.45). These leaves some possibility of me making the cut (putting aside the other criteria for a moment).
However, if there is an average of 2 people/derivatives per case number, that would be approximately 1,440 people in front of me (720 x 2), leaving little likelihood of receiving a visa based off historic issuance numbers for Oceania. Or have I got this math all wrong?
If it is a priority system, is there any reason why I would care about the number of case numbers higher than mine?
June 15, 2020 at 17:23
Your math is somewhat wrong. My explanation for OC is going to turn out to be very accurate.
Of the CASES in OC about 75% will be holes. So – you probably have about 400 cases in front of you, approximately 800 people. Not all of those people will apply or be approved, so your number is pretty safe.
There is a quota for each region – this year OC will take a MAX of about 800/850 visas including derivatives.
June 16, 2020 at 06:19
Thanks for the feedback!
June 15, 2020 at 13:07
Hello Mr. Brit
I have one question please
On my eDV I fill out my spouse’s birth date
November 24,1998
But her birth certificate says
November 24,1997
Is there any problem that can cause?
June 15, 2020 at 22:37
Correct the DS260.
June 16, 2020 at 04:47
Thanks so much Mr Brit
But as an option the birth certificate is on process…. So can she correct on it to November 24,1998? Since we can
June 16, 2020 at 05:44
Sorry ? Mr Brit.. Just I will correct it on the DS-260 form if it hasn’t any problem
June 16, 2020 at 18:06
I don’t understand what you are saying.
June 15, 2020 at 15:52
Hello Brit,
Very much appreciation for your nice videos and detailed informations. I had been searching a lot to find the answer to my question but I could not get a clear answer. I would be grateful if you help me with that:
1- My case number is around 2021AS00016XXX. I live in Europe at the moment but I am originally from Iran. As far as I found some info online, the case numbers for Iranians end roughly around 10000. Do you have any explanation for that? Am I considered in EU region since living in EU?
2- The time of my interview is scheduled in Frankfurt embassy. Is there any relation between interview time and which embassy is selected for you? (for example for most of Iranian living in Iran Yerevan or Ankara would be selected which are normally crowded)
I am very thankful again and sorry for my long question.
Regards,
Hassan
June 15, 2020 at 22:54
1. No you are considered AS region. Cases for Nepal and Iran get cutoff early because they have so many entries/selectees. Read the holes theory article to understand better.
2. It still goes by number within the region.
As you should be aware, your case is affected by the travel ban. So – I would suggest you wait before doing anything to see the election results. If Trump loses you may have a chance.
June 15, 2020 at 18:34

Great blog here! thanks so much for the valuable info. am 2021AF70xxx. Despite the high case number am very much hopeful.
Let’s wait and see the number of selectees. This year a lot of people will get rejected in africa because they just ignored the passport requirement. (i have seen a bunch of people on SM asking how to proceed with an entry with a dummy passport number).

Hi Mr Brit! I am a winner of the DV 2021. In the initial entry, I included my husband and my husband’s 2 kids (my step children). My question is will I need to provide adoption papers for my step children?
June 16, 2020 at 00:13
No – the marriage papers are what cover step children.

Hi Mr brit,
1 -based on whatdo they decide the percentage of selectees (with derivatives) in every region, example is there a fix quota for every region?
2- what is the criteria do they put when they chose a lot of cases in every region, is it because they are a lot of holes and they need a certain number of selectees?
3- could we say that when we see high case numbers that we have a low density? 4_based on what during the draw of selectees they stop taking more cases.
Thank you sir

1. There is a quota for visas available to be issued, so based on that they “over select” knowing some won’t continue the process, some will get denied and so on.
2. We don’t know their exact criteria. In some years they select too few, and on other years they select too many.
3. No – high case numbers could mean low density OR high number of selectees. So when we see the selectee counts we will know (as described in the video).
4. They stop when they think they have “enough”.

Hi Simon, my case number is 32XX in Oceania for 2021, do you think this is too high?

Maybe. It is too early to know for sure.
