Hi Brit i have question that medical check up is after or before interview? Thanks.
November 27, 2019 at 23:53
Before.
September 20, 2019 at 09:37
Thanks britsimmon for answering my query
Am back with another query for my friend
She entered the embassy back in June 29 and her husband was awarded the visa and she was placed on Adminitaruon processing
The man who did the application for her said that he send her 7 questions answers on the same day but her case was never updated
1. Is that a normal case for not having any update or do you think that he cheated them?
And never send the email to the embassy !!
They don’t know him other than he does application services and he filled their application under his email
2. Can she send the answers again using her email which is not registered in the winning case !!
Awaiting ur feedback
September 20, 2019 at 22:30
1. How could I know? But I regularly tell people to do things for themselves – so when you don’t follow my advice – what can I say…
2. Yes
September 20, 2019 at 22:41
Do you think that if she send the document with less than 10 days , her case will be processed
Also did you have cases where ppl didn’t get any case update and still get awarded the visa
September 20, 2019 at 23:15
All you can do is wait patiently.
September 17, 2019 at 14:52
Hi brit,
I was interviewed on 20th Aug. At the time CO requested us to bring the new sponsor’s IRS & I 134. i submited that docs on 22nd Aug. Still my case is AP. I called embassy several times. They said same answer that my file with the officer. 2019 dv programme closes in 8 days.Is there any chances to get visa?
September 17, 2019 at 20:41
I don’t know.
September 17, 2019 at 11:27
Hi Simon,
First of all I would like to say
thanks a million for your continuous help and guidance
I have a case that I want to discuss with you with a few questions.
My cousin was interviewed on the 2nd September for his case number AF466** . the visa officer told him that he was awarded the visa, UNFOTUNATELY the next day after the interview, the embassy called him and informed him that he was placed in ADMINISTRATION PROCESSING (AP)
they asked him to fill the 7 questions and send the reply asap. He did that on the same day. On the 5th of September, his case was updated, and it was updated again on the 15th. Again with the same AP:( .
knowing that the 2019 is about to finish in 13 days; I have a couple of questions here
1. what are his chances of him getting a visa
2. will the fact that he was told that the visa was approved and then changed to AP give him a better standing that the ppl who were AP from the start ?
3. have you done visa scraping recently to know the number of available visa for the program ?
4. any reason of why the visa officer changed his mind?
5. and my last question is from the previous years, does all AP cases turned issued before the DV year closes or some ppl lose their chances in the VISA.
Appreciate your soonest feedback as he is in a state of depression.
September 17, 2019 at 20:28
1. I don’t know.
2. No.
3. There are PLENTY of visas available.
4. I don’t know.
5. Some people lose their chance every year…
September 16, 2019 at 07:30
Hi Brit!
DV-2019. Case EU303**. Got my visa last week. Gonna think my number was biggest. Thank you for your help!
September 9, 2019 at 19:57
Hi Brit,
I have a couple of doubts regarding what happens after the interview at the embassy. If my visa gets issued, I will have up to 6 months to enter the US. My questions are the following:
1) If I enter the US within the 6 months do I become “Permanent Resident” once crossed the border or when I receive the green card itself at the American address I provided?
2) If I enter the US after the 6 months visa expiration date what happens? I suppose I would lose the right for the green card, right? In this case would I be able to enter anyway the US with a tourist visa? Or even to apply again in the future for other visas or again for the green card?
September 9, 2019 at 21:47
1. Upon entry.
2. You would not be allowed to board the plane with the expired visa.
September 3, 2019 at 09:11
Hi Brit, my visa got approved the 29th of august, do I need to enter the United States before the 30th of september or I can enter the United States before my visa get expired that is in february.
September 3, 2019 at 16:40
Before the visa expiry date.
September 3, 2019 at 03:00
Hi, thanks for all you are doing in this forum, as formal expertise in the matter is very scarce outside of USCIS (sometimes it seams that even inside one).
Given your vast experience in the matter I would appreciate your opinion on my case.
I am on f-1 visa, OPT, now and plan to extend that to STEM OPT in January 2020, while my current employer is committed to apply for H1-B at about the same time.
Meanwhile my wife, F-2 visa holder, has been selected in DV2020 with a CN EU51XXX.
We have not filed DS260 yet as I am afraid that would form an immigration intent and may affect OPT extension procedure. However we plan to do so as early as extension is granted to follow the AOS path.
My question is, in your opinion, how risky it is to gamble with AOS (given the case number, timeline) and potentially jeopardize H1-B, and current F1 status, as I would have to bounce back in either of those in case AOS fails or get denied?
Based on your experience in this situation what are the risks and downsides of the following sequence of actions in my case:
1) Apply for OPT extension (October 2019),
2) Get extension (January, 2020),
3) Apply for H1-B (April 2020),
4) Submit DV2020 selectee DS260 (April 2020),
5) Apply for AOS (as number becomes current, but not later than end of May 2020, since 4 month review process)
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards
September 3, 2019 at 03:12
You’re a bit confused about some things. Step 4 is not strictly necessary. I do recommend AOS cases file the DS260, but it can certainly wait.
5. In step 5 you say “not later than end of May”. Well if you are not current by that time, you can’t file. There is no “4 month” timeline for review. You can file early, but the case number has to have appeared in the VB. You will have to wait and have your I-485 ready to go as you see your number getting close. You could then pay your AOS DV fee, and file. DV cases can move fast, since FOs know the urgency.

Thanks a lot… will be digesting it now 🙂
August 29, 2019 at 06:34
Dear Brit Simon,
Good day to you.
I had DV2019 interview last week and during the interview, the officer congratulated me and told that Visa Approved and gave a letter to collect the passport next week.
By the time I go to the interview, the status was READY
After 2 days time after the interview status now changed to ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING
Is this normal or am I at a risk of something?
tks
August 29, 2019 at 17:40
Read the FAQ please.
August 26, 2019 at 17:25
Hi Britsimon,
first of all, I would like to thank you for all your great articles and for your patience in answering every question you are asked. Your hard work with this blog was very helpful with all my process with the dvlottery visa.
I have my interview at the consulate in Switzerland scheduled in 2 weeks from now, but unfortunately I am not able to attend the interview on that day. My questions are:
1) is it possible to reschedule the visa interview?
2) how can I eventually reschedule the interview?
3) in your opinion is it too risky, with 1 month left, to reschedule the interview? Is it possible that we won’t get a second appointment at the consulate?
Thank you.
August 26, 2019 at 19:47
1. Possible, yes – but there is some risk that they don’t schedule it when you want – and then you could lose your chance. .
2. You would discuss with the embassy.
3. Yes that is risky. Personally, I would not do that.
August 24, 2019 at 17:11
Hi, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your effort in creating this amazing blog, in which you have shared the necessary information and knowledge to help us navigate through this rather complicated process. I did the AoS procedure as I have been working in US for sometimes, and you have pointed us to another amazing forum by Sm1smom, they have also done an extremely good job in guiding people. I have attended my interview just two days ago and things went smoothly, expecting to receive green card in the next few weeks. Thanks so much again for your effort in sharing the info, and thanks to the community here for sharing your experiences!
August 24, 2019 at 17:49
Glad to hear it went well.
August 21, 2019 at 04:12
I submitted my DS260 and I am preparing documents for it once interview date is assigned. What does deportation paper mean if I am only a F1 student who changed from F2 to F1 while here in U.S.? Would that fit under the deportation required documents?
August 21, 2019 at 22:15
I don’t know anything about that.
August 21, 2019 at 02:50
Dear Brit Simon,
I have already obtained documents (to submit during interview) addressed to
H.E. The Ambassador,
is this OK?
OR,
Do I need to address the documents to
The Visa Officer,
Thank you.
August 21, 2019 at 03:01
It doesn’t matter.
August 21, 2019 at 03:47
Thank you
August 16, 2019 at 04:38
HI Brit
Thank you so much for your prompt reply.
I did my interview in the month of August 2019, however due to my medical report needed further test to complete, hence it would only would be ready on September 25, 2019.
If assuming everything else okay, based on your experience, do you think the embassy be able to obtain the visa on time from KCC and issue it to me prior the end of the DV-2019 on September 30, 2019?
Thank you.
August 16, 2019 at 06:56
I don’t know. It’s risky.
October 1, 2019 at 08:13
Hi Brit
I would like to inform you that finally I got my visa prior the end of the program. I was lucky that the consular took 3 working days to process my visa upon receiving the medical report and visa still available at that time.
My medical report was being delayed, due to the pending results for my sputum culture tests, which took 8 weeks to complete, in order to rule out that I was free from TB infection. So for those who had an lung infection before and with an unclear X-ray, will likely to be required for such tests and leading to delay for the report.
Meanwhile I would like to thank you for the valuable information that you put up on internet, may it be your blog or you tube for the DV visas, which were extremely helpful and comprehensible, that definitely helping me in getting the visa.
Once again, thank you so much.
October 1, 2019 at 13:41
I’m glad to hear you made it!
August 15, 2019 at 15:21
Hi Brit
Good day to you.
I just read the Visa Bulletin September 2019 a moment ago and it enclosed a statement saying that “DV visa availability through the very end of FY-2019 cannot be taken for granted. Numbers could be exhausted prior to September 30.” Could it meant that the DV visa could still be exhausted prior the end of the program, especially for those in the end of the month. I am very concerned, because my medical report would only be ready on September 25 and deliver directly to embassy. At first, I was relieved after watching your DV-2019 final days earlier, saying that visa would not be run out for all regions. But now I am worry after reading the Bulletin. I am in the region of Asia. Do you think my case would be proceed on the 25 or visa might be run out by then?
Please advise.
Thank you.
August 15, 2019 at 17:31
Globally, visas won’t run out – but some countries could reach cap. Egypt is one such country, and Nepal might also hit the capo. BUT was your interview scheduled for September or an earlier month? If it was in September then the visa is ALREADY allocated to your case. But if it was in an earlier month, the visa was allocated for that month only and the embassy would have to obtain a new visa allocation from KCC. Whilst visas might not run out – there is still a very short time for that request to be made.
August 15, 2019 at 12:40
Dear Mr. Simon,
When we receive I-134 from a U.S. person, we submit the form and supporting documents to Embassy during the interview.
1. What will happen, if that person does not meet the required capacity OR some how black-listed for some reason? (Because we do not know the exact internal details of the person who submit I-134, even we know them on regular basis)
2. Is there any way that we can cross check or verify the details, prior to submit to Embassy?
Thank you.
August 15, 2019 at 17:16
You are overthinking.
If the person is KNOWN to you, AND meets the income requirements AND provides the supporting documents – then it will be accepted.

August 13, 2019 at 12:31
Dear Mr. Simon,
during last month, in the Travel.state.gov website, they have mentioned about the SPONSOR related comment. In that they said, “personal assets” or “job offer” or “i-134”.
But seems like that section has been modified or removed from the website.
**Do you remember the WEB LINK in the official website, which shows that DV applicants can use their “assets / savings” OR “job offer” to sponsor themselves OR ELSE I-134? (I could not find it any where)**
Thank you.
August 13, 2019 at 13:58
I explained it here:

August 8, 2019 at 18:50
Hi Brit
Is it normal for the main applicant reference ( 2019AF28142 01 NBO ) to show issued while the derivative ( 2019AF28142 02 NBO) who is me, his wife to still show AP on CEAC 3 days after the interview and the CO congratulated us both and hasn’t not requested any additional document since ?
Further to that the pop up box on CEAC says that your visa hasn’t been issued and you will be notified on the collection process based on the instructions of your place of interview
Thanks
Amber
August 8, 2019 at 20:33
It’s normal in your case. So – be patient.
August 11, 2019 at 11:09
thanks Brit

I had an Interview on 17th June . Then The Case was Put under the Administrative processing . Last week i got A call from The Embassy tosubmit My Passport . Its been A week that My Case is Still on AP. Can The Visa be granted After They request for The Passport or They are Still processing The visa? How long does it Take to Process?
August 8, 2019 at 20:21
Timing varies. You just have to remain patient.
August 7, 2019 at 19:11
Totally off topic – but are you aware there’s a bug in this site that sometimes (most of the times actually) one can not see his post until about 24 hours later? I reckon this makes people write duplicate posts…
August 8, 2019 at 00:41
That is for moderation. It’s not a bug.
August 8, 2019 at 03:24
So how come it sometimes appears right away?
August 8, 2019 at 04:57
Once I approve a person to post – they are shown immediately.
August 7, 2019 at 19:10
Hi Brit, I’m from Europe and I have my interview on the 27th of august, I don’t have a sponsor in the usa or I job offer I only have some money around 20k and 20k my wife, should I be worried that my visa will be denied cause I became a financial burden? thank you so much for your advise
August 8, 2019 at 00:41
I can’t say there is no risk, there is some. That is why I recommend an I-134.
August 8, 2019 at 08:06
sorry my ignorance but what exactly is a I-134? and how to get it?

August 6, 2019 at 22:56
Hi BritSimon,
My interview was on mid June but I completed medical on July 30. My passport was kept with the CO since my interview date. Ceac page reported READY until July 30, then AP until August 05 and now when I just checked ceac page I found that my status is changed to ISSUED.
Should I start celebrating??
August 6, 2019 at 23:27
I would recommend you wait until it’s in your hands.
August 7, 2019 at 04:49
Ofcourse.
I have waited 14 months And 99% of the time, I waited patiently.
…Now waiting patiently again, until it’s in my hand.
August 7, 2019 at 13:51
LOL – well done!!!!!
August 6, 2019 at 18:21
Dear Brit Simon,
I read the FAQ link for I-134
Still I need to confirm this from you
According to FAQ & state website, they ask to bring the I-134 & supporting Docs to the interview. **BUT** inside the “I-134 Instruction PDF”, it says “Where to File”. In that section, it gives a link. that link does not guide properly. That was my confusion.
Pls see the below Image extracted from “I-134 Instruction File” & this is the referred link ( http://www.uscis.gov/I-134 )
http://prntscr.com/op76bv
When I read this, I feel like I-134 need to be filed with USCIS
Pls advice & Thank you.
August 6, 2019 at 18:27
You obviously didn’t read my link well. If you had you would have seen this –
“The original signed I-134 plus supporting documents is presented by the selectee at the interview IF requested. ”
That is clear isn’t it? I am about to update that to say original or scanned/emailed copy.
August 6, 2019 at 19:41
Thank you
August 6, 2019 at 15:25
Dear Brit Simon,
Good Day and Wish you Good Health.
My question regarding I-134
1. If I get a I-134 from a person in US, what he should do
a. Fill the -134 Form
b. Get copies of Bank statements and/or employment details or tax details fro self employed
** c. next step, NOT CLEAR to me. Where he need to send or file these docs?
Can you explain pls.
Thank you.

August 6, 2019 at 00:58
Only a citizen can sponsor a sibling.
August 5, 2019 at 11:28
Hi Brit, on my DS260 I wrote that I’ve to the US 2 times, but since I completed the form I’ve traveled once more. My interview is scheduled for 18th of September and when I received the email from the embassy they advised I review the DS 260 and ask them to unlock if necessary. So, should I unlock or could this be explained at the interview? I don’t want to take any chances, that’s why I’m asking, even though I think I know your answer (that I shouldn’t unlock my DS260). Thank you so much.
August 5, 2019 at 19:07
No need to unlock.
August 5, 2019 at 07:14
Hello,
We have received out 2nl for September 18. I am worried about one of the applicants being aged out(turned 21 on 30 June; EU29***). Could you please refer me to the article of yours I can read about this or help me to calculate? I have been told that the Embassies use some type of formula is that true?
Thank you very much for the help you provide.
August 5, 2019 at 16:44
You’ll be fine.
https://britsimonsays.com/child-turn-21-can-heshe-get-visa/
August 5, 2019 at 16:47
By the way, given the limited time before the end of the month I strongly suggest you learn about CSPA and print out the information I provide in the link I gave for the interview. Embassies and COs often don’t understand the rule as well as they should – so giving them referenced guidance on how they should apply the rule may be critical to make sure you are approved before the end of the year.
August 3, 2019 at 13:52
Brit one of my friends has smoked weed times ago and he is scared of medical exam , will he be delayed if any result tells them ??
August 3, 2019 at 15:51
Possibly – if they think he is a habitual drug user.
August 4, 2019 at 02:10
so if they think they will do him a special drugs test or what .
August 4, 2019 at 14:28
I don’t know.
August 11, 2019 at 06:29
Yeah kineung he will have to go for further drug screening and doc will determine
August 2, 2019 at 15:47
Hi BritSmion, I would like to ask one question regarding the documentation for interview. I changed my name in around 10 years ago. I was wondering if I need to provide any documentation to prove I have changed name?
I had submitted all the required documentation with my new name, KCC have replied they received my documentation and I have a interview scheduled next week.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
August 2, 2019 at 17:17
Yes you should take that proof to the interview.
August 2, 2019 at 14:23
Hi Brit, I did my interview June 4, 2019 and I was place on Administrative process to do DNA with my two children and the kits was sent from the US to the embassy near Monrovia and the kits was received by E. Page but, send then I have not heard from the embassy and time is running out.
August 2, 2019 at 14:54
All you can do is be patient.
August 2, 2019 at 13:33
nice job !
August 2, 2019 at 13:20
Does anyone know what they do in medical examination what kind of tests they do ?
August 2, 2019 at 14:53
It’s a normal medical. Nothing to be concerned about.
August 2, 2019 at 10:18
Hi Brit. Can the embassy tell and insist me to retire from my present (military) job to approve visa when visa issuance is not a guaranteed process at any stage? What can I do in such an instance? Because I am placed in AP for more than a month probably due to this reason. Thanks in advance.
August 2, 2019 at 14:42
It is not for them to tell you what to do. But they can decide whether or not to give you a visa.
August 2, 2019 at 09:14
Dear Brit,
you have done a good job, thank you so much as we are now preparing for interview. May God complete the good work which he have started in our lives.
Q1, In my country police clearance is valid for a year and i got mine in December 2018, so its within the period of the process but do you think i should update it be the interview in September?
August 2, 2019 at 14:31
Did you watch the video where I addressed that EXACT question???
August 2, 2019 at 05:28
Simon
I’m a principal member of lottery dv 2020, i played as couple with no child but my wife is pregnant now don’t know if only if we can be call on interview, can they grant us visa provided she put to birth or not
August 2, 2019 at 04:27
Heyy BritSimon, my case at ceac was READY for 6 weeks after my interview. It Was b/c of medical. When I complete my medical on July 31, it turned to AP on Aug 01.
Is it a good thing? Should I hope something?
Thanks,
August 2, 2019 at 05:41
You cannot assume anything from that update.
August 2, 2019 at 02:27
What you think about us embassy kabul that more cases still are in administration process. do they will fast in August,.
August 2, 2019 at 05:41
The security process cannot be rushed.
August 2, 2019 at 00:33
Hi Brit! Please I have been placed on administrative processing for than 90 days and I have not heard anything from the embassy. What can I do because time is running out
August 2, 2019 at 05:39
Just wait, that’s all.
August 1, 2019 at 22:30
Thanks a lot mr. Brit
