The government want to re-implement the passport rule which would require you to have a valid unexpired passport to enter the lottery. There is a public comment period about to start, so it is not 100% for sure yet, but clearly they want to bring it back if they can.

Sorry but even poor Africans can afford this.
A passport in Africa costs about 70 dollars and is valid for 6 years, around 12 dollars a year for a passport that a person will have to pay for anyway if they win.
If said person can’t afford 12 bucks a year then said person has bigger problems than coming to America or not

I support the passport rule. It will massively reduce fraud and increase chances of those who will apply in the lottery
