Bonjour Britsimmons
Merci.

Hi Simon – thanks for the work you are doing, it is super helpful.
My case number is EU57xxx, live in London so assume that’s where I’ll get an interview if I get one.
Based on your advice in FAQ and CN analysis I am not submitting DS260 until at least we get more clarity on the number of selectees in July/August.
What I am trying to understand is if the embassy choice also impacts the chances of getting an interview for high case numbers, and given mine is London – if it impacts any of the logic for high case numbers you described in the FAQ “When should I submit my DS260”.
Thank you
May 10, 2023 at 23:06
Embassies can ruin the process by restricting the amount of interviews they accept. But that is a small number of embassies, for the rest, such as LOndon, it doesn’t really impact the cases in a positive or negative way. Your strategy about the DS260 is wise, but might cause some delay later if you do get current.
May 11, 2023 at 05:51
Thank you
May 12, 2023 at 14:01
Why not submit a ds260 anyhow regardless of the case number? what is there to lose?
May 12, 2023 at 20:19
Some people don’t want to declare immigrant intent which can cause problems on future non immigrant interviews.
May 10, 2023 at 18:01
Hi Simon,
My case number is 2024EU00041xxx
I have a quick question regarding to an article from 2019 that I have read on your site. In that article you advised people to wait a little bit with completing the DS260 until the amount of selectees was published since case numbers were high that year. I realize that submitting the DS260 form effects my chances of getting a visa in the future in case my number won’t make it in time. Do you think it’s safe to wait a little bit given my ‘higher case number’ and see if it was over selected or would you recommend me to complete the DS260 as soon as possible?
I’d like to hear your opinion on this.
Thank you.
May 10, 2023 at 23:08
Highest EU numbers are 65K+ – yours in in the first two thirds numerically at least. So – complete the DS260 soon.
May 11, 2023 at 01:13
Hi Britsimon,
In light of your response to this, what is your suggestion for AF selectees with case numbers higher than 100000? To send DS-260 soon or to wait a bit?
May 11, 2023 at 08:51
AF processing tends to take longer, so people might want to submit anyway. Each person can decide whether the immigrant intent risk is a concern to them.
May 10, 2023 at 18:11
Oceania 40xx
May 12, 2023 at 09:05
Oceania has high CN mine is 70xx
May 12, 2023 at 20:12
7000 range. For OC – that’s incredible.
May 10, 2023 at 23:44
Hi Simon, my case number is 2024EU57xxx. Any estimates on when an interview might be scheduled? Thank you kindly.
May 10, 2023 at 23:46
Nope.
May 10, 2023 at 23:59
Hi Simon, Can I have my interview in Nigeria since I live in Nigeria but my county of eligibility is Cameron. 2) since Nigeria can’t play dv lottery will there be visa available here?
May 11, 2023 at 08:46
1. Technically, yes you can do that and people have done that in recent past. HOWEVER – right now the Nigeria US embassy has not accepted a single case from DV2023. Visas can be processed there, but the embassy won’t do it. That could change tomorrow, but if I were in your position, I would give an address in Cameroon.
May 11, 2023 at 01:23
My case number is 2024SA32XX

May 16, 2023 at 23:35
Youโre welcome! What is the highest CN youโve heard for SA?
May 17, 2023 at 00:15
I haven’t heard enough to form an opinion.
May 11, 2023 at 13:32
Hi Simon. many thanks for the explanation. my case number is EU55XXX and I’m currently in the US on a G1 visa. considering my number is relatively high should i not apply for ds260 (i see it is recommended but not necessary) if i’m doing the AOS process? I wouldn’t want it to affect the possibility of a visa renewal in the future or getting other non immigrant visas but i don’t know if the AOS process does that anyway. I’m not sure what my next step should be… any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
May 12, 2023 at 17:14
As you are going AOS, there is no need for you to file DS260 at this time – it is optional for AOS cases.
May 11, 2023 at 15:09
I know 5 winners (including myself), case numbers are EU39K-EU41K. Seems Hole % will be higher this year.
May 12, 2023 at 17:16
Yep
May 11, 2023 at 15:58
Hi Simon, Iโve done a silly thing and gone against what you PREACH which is to take your time when completing the DS-260. I stupidly did not place my whole work history in, only noted of jobs when I stepped into management roles.
Shall I unlock to complete this in correctly?
CN: 2024OC5XX
May 12, 2023 at 17:16
You were on my live Q&A I think – No need to update.
May 11, 2023 at 16:33
My case number is 2024EU50xxx. It seems that there is a chance considering higher numbers this year. Fingers crossed.
May 11, 2023 at 17:11
Hi Simon
My case number is 2024AS00020XXX
I’m from the West Bank so I’m chargeable to Jordan but we process through Jerusalem Embassy. I have a valid B1/2 visa too.
Should I fill the DS260 now or wait until we know how many selectees there are ??
May 12, 2023 at 17:19
You number is probably not high.
May 11, 2023 at 17:26
Hi Simon,
I am sending you a message from Iran.
my case number is 2024AS16xxx. Is there any chance for interview?
May 12, 2023 at 17:19
Probably – we will see.
May 13, 2023 at 17:12
Hi Simon and thanks you for the effort you are doing to guide us on dv program,
Please while filling the ds260 form Iโm abit confused at the Questionaire :
โPresent and previous address โ
I am currently in Dubai,UAE for 2years now but my home country is Cameroon and I will choose Yaoundรฉ embassy to proceed my dv process. Now should I put my Dubai address as present and my home address as previous since I left home 2years ago though will be going back home when my interview appointment is emailed to me. Please be grateful to get your feedback Brit,Thanks for your time.
May 13, 2023 at 19:08
Just the truth.
May 11, 2023 at 18:21
Hi Simon,
Iโm 2024OC21XX. Do you think I have a strong chance of getting through seeing as there are some 4XXX case numbers out there?
If so, is there anything you recommend in terms of when to submit the DS-260? Also, does it make a difference in terms of processing whether I am interviewed in London (where Iโll be allocated) or Auckland (where I hope to be transferred to)?
Thanks so much!
May 12, 2023 at 17:21
We don’t know enough yet to make educated guesses – but yeah your number probably isn’t bad. No difference between the embassies.
May 11, 2023 at 19:09
Hello Sir,
is passport required in ds-260. I am from Afghanistan it will take sometime for me get a passport.
May 12, 2023 at 17:22
No – you can use another official ID
May 12, 2023 at 19:16
Ok thank you sir,
May 12, 2023 at 04:42
Hey brit, just saw your video, keep up the good work! love people who are passionate about what they do.
My case number would be EU202400029XXX, I see that people have some higher numbers but this one is still pretty high for Europe. I filled out my DV260 already just in case but was just wondering if you think I actually have a chance of getting an Interview ?
Thank you so much in advance
May 12, 2023 at 18:35
I don’t think 2024EU29000 will be as high as the same number this year…
May 12, 2023 at 05:07
2024OC25xx is my case number which seems high but I will check back later in the year as there seems to be no benefit to returning forms early.
May 12, 2023 at 18:36
That is a reasonable plan – we will know more in July/August.
May 12, 2023 at 07:51
Hi Simon.
My Case Number is 2024AF72XXX and I wanted to do my interview in Saudi Arabia. Is there a high chance that I get to be interviewed?
Thank you.
May 12, 2023 at 18:37
I have no way to calculate that chance.
May 12, 2023 at 13:09
Hello Simon your information is so helpful
My case number is 2024AF60xxx waiting to know how many selectees to know my next move. I’m from Kenya and from your blogs and videos i have noted nairobi is really underperfoming.
May 12, 2023 at 13:44
My case number is AF74K which is a very high number I believe.
Do you think it’s wise to submit the DS260 now or waituntil later to get more analysis on the numbers. Since my embassy will be Riyadh and I am seeing alot of complain there from DV2023
May 12, 2023 at 20:18
Your choice.
May 12, 2023 at 13:58
Hi,
I got case number 17133 in Asia.
Do I have a chance?
Thanks
May 12, 2023 at 20:18
Maybe
May 13, 2023 at 02:17
Hi, Brit Simons. You videos are amazing me very informative. I havenโt submitted anything yet because my Case number is 2024CN68** and my strategy is to wait out and see the number of selectees. Does submitting the DS260 application faster improve the chances of getting processed faster?
May 13, 2023 at 09:56
Yes – they open the DS260s in the order that they are submitted.
Could you clarify the region of your number – CN is not a region.
May 13, 2023 at 21:30
Oh my apologies. Oceania
May 13, 2023 at 22:30
Wow – that is about the highest OC number I have heard – which may not be a good thing. Make sure you watch the video to understand.
May 16, 2023 at 07:53
Is your number OC68**?? I only ask because I havenโt heard above 4900
May 17, 2023 at 08:31
There are many selectees here especially in Fiji. I know four other people who were selected in the 6xxx range all with accompanying applicants.
May 13, 2023 at 03:53
My case number is 2024EU18XXX, and it looks like, based on what is said in the video, I should feel relatively safe taking the high hole percentage. I’m wondering also about such factors as Ukraine situation, where most men are just not allowed to leave the country, and I guess some of those applicants are still going to be invited for interviews. Another factor is russians, for them it’s quite hard to get to embassy for the interview. Maybe I’ve missed the point in your videos, but how these cases are going to be sorted out eventually to free the place for others? Those people will still fill the DS-260, though they won’t be able to come to interview with a high probability.
May 13, 2023 at 10:04
Whilst the war in Ukraine is having some impacts, both Russian and Ukraine issuances are moving quite well. That means the plan put in place by the government to make interviews available to those winners somehow is working. So – winners from those countries, whilst impacted to some extent, are not being impacted as badly as those in some countries in Africa.

Hi Simon, I really need your help, am confused on how to fill the Ds 260 form since am from Nigeria and my husband is from Cameroon where will I fill as my country where am born. I will really appreciate if you can treat this. Explain to me how to fill it I don’t want to make mistake
May 13, 2023 at 15:00
You were born where you were born. Just tell the truth.
May 14, 2023 at 00:38
Am born in Nigeria , so I should record Nigeria.
May 14, 2023 at 12:19
Are you struggling to understand the term “the truth”?
May 13, 2023 at 22:22
Hi Brit
can you help me out here…..am married but my husband is in the UK and during the time for 2024 entry i registered as single, but on my passport am married,
my question is if am filling my d260 should i include my husband’s name in it but definately he will not travel with me or i should fill it without him appeared on my form
thus it have effect on the day of interview since my passport details says am marrried but i won as single and applied as single
thank you
May 13, 2023 at 22:53
You should not complete the DS260 at all. You will certainly be disqualified, so all you are doing is wasting your time and money if you proceed. The instructions were absolutely clear – you were required to include your husband and enter your marital status truthfully. Your lie will not be excused.
May 13, 2023 at 23:27
Hi Brit,
1. Are internships categorized as work experience when filling the ds-260?
2.Secondly, my spouse has been travelling to the USA consistently since 2011 for some work conferences. He stays for a maximum of 2weeks each year and returns to Ghana. Would he need a police certificate from America since he hasn’t stayed there for 6months in a row ever?
Thankyou.
May 14, 2023 at 12:15
1. No
2. No. There are no police certs needed for the USA.
May 14, 2023 at 08:01
Hi Simon, first of all thank you so much for your site which is incredible.
We have been selected for the DV last week and are filling the DS-260. Filling an adress where to receive the green card is requested but we do not know anyone in the US. We currently live in France. Do you recommend to use a commercial mail, or to state unknown in the adress or any other option ?
Many thanks for your help !!
Kind regards,
Amira

It must be a real residential address, so perhaps that could be a friend of a friend that you could trust.
May 14, 2023 at 17:36
Many thanks for your reply
May 14, 2023 at 15:50
I am a dual citizenship and was selected because of the country I was born (Argentina) but I am currently an F-1 with my other nationality passport (peru). Do I qualify for adjustment of status?
May 15, 2023 at 08:07
As long as you have never been out of status, yes.
May 14, 2023 at 16:34
Hey Simon! My case is EU43XXX. I live in Belarus. As I can see interviews for my country are scheduled in Warsaw embassy, Poland. I’ve submitted my DV lottery entry from TBILISI, Georgia because I lived there last year. Now I’m in Belarus but ceac ds-260 form offers to schedule the interview there, in Tbilisi embassy. For me, it’s even better, because I don’t need to get a Schengen visa to get to Warsaw, but I don’t know how the consulate will react to this. What do you recommend?
May 15, 2023 at 08:09
I recommend yoga.
Be more clear in your questions.
May 21, 2023 at 10:17
Fair enough) Forgot to add some details, sorry. Let me rephrase the question.
I am a citizen of Belarus, like my whole family. Winners from our country are sent for an interview in Warsaw. I filled out the form for participation in the lottery while in Georgia and our possible interview was assigned to the embassy in Georgia. We would like to have an interview in Warsaw, and when filling out the ds-260, we chose the box where we indicated that we want to interview in Warsaw.
The question is:
Should I email kcc and ask them to move my possible interview to Warsaw, or a simple selection in ds is enough?
May 21, 2023 at 10:27
You can email and ask them whether they have noted your embassy selection and have assigned you there. They wil often override what you choose and schedule according to address.
May 22, 2023 at 01:59
Thanks!
May 14, 2023 at 19:21
Hi Simon,
My case number is 2024AF69XXX, and I have chosen Cairo, Egypt as my desired interview location, considering mine is a high case number, I’ve seen people recommending the Sierra Leone’s US consulate as they say processing there is faster, should I contact the KCC to unlock my DS (which I submitted 2 days ago) to change the interview location or it doesn’t matter where I choose to be interviewed?
Thanks you for everything you’re doing and for the great content you’re creating.
May 15, 2023 at 08:14
KCC will choose your embassy based on current address. You don’t just pick wherever you think is better.
May 17, 2023 at 19:03
I am in Sudan, with the current war we have here we no longer have a US embassy as all of the US personnel were evacuated 3 weeks ago.
And the whole situation is going worse by the hour, so all of us would have to choose other countries for interviews.
May 18, 2023 at 11:19
I see. There are accommodations that will be in place in due course for that scenario – so pick the embassy you want for now and see what happens next year since you have a long time to wait anyway.
May 15, 2023 at 04:59
Hi Simon,

Hi Simon,
I mentioned earlier my case number for Oceanic of 49##.
I have a question regarding my daughters photo that I used on the DV application. I have looked at the photo I used after getting picked and realise there is shadow and itโs not perfect I guess.
Wondering if I get an interview if this will come back to bite or will the process moving forward avoid this?
Sorry and thanks
May 15, 2023 at 16:48
That won’t cause any problem.
By the way – I have heard from an OC67XX now.
May 15, 2023 at 23:42
Many numbers higher than me or just that one?
May 15, 2023 at 23:49
Just that one – which might indicate it is an outlier but at this time I would not expect to have heard from every case, especially as we are probably talking about 75 – 80 % holes (as a guess).
May 17, 2023 at 04:52
Hi Simon,
Thank you for you hard work. It is super helpful.
I watched you video, I understand that the High CN might be due to hole because they removed passport requirements.
1) Assuming we have about 75% holes can we say that if someone has EU35k as CN, there is topically around 8K really CN.
So about 16k selected before that person.
2) I am currently based in US, plan to do AOS, given the time it takes, do you think if my number becomes current in August 2024, will I have enough time do get the GC before end of September? When they say you have to end of September is it whit processing time of as long as you submit you I484 before end of FY your are good?
May 18, 2023 at 10:36
1. That is a correct understanding – although we don’t know the numbers yet.
2. Your case must be complete by the September 30 deadline, but they rush DV cases, so yes, if your number became current in August 2024 you would use the early filing policy, meaning you would file in June and that would be enough time to complete the process.
May 16, 2023 at 13:19
Hi Simon
I got a case number of 2024 AF48XXX.
In ethiopia. Addis Abababa.
I have two questions:
1. How high you think is this number? And
2. How is addis ababa doing this year? And is there hope that they will improve next year?
May 16, 2023 at 15:23
1. No
2. They are backlogged this year – I don’t know whether they will fix that.
May 18, 2023 at 05:34
question 1, you said No, do you mean itโs not a high number?
Thanks
May 18, 2023 at 14:23
I don’t think its a particularly high number.
May 16, 2023 at 23:16
Hi,
I have AS20xxx for 2024.
Does it make sense to think about it this way – 50% holes, and than 50% of applicants fail at the visa attempt, so divide 20k by 4 to know how many case numbers are actually infront of me.
Than, each winner is 2 persons, or visas on average. So if I have 2024AS20xxx, I actually have 5k applications infront of me, or 10k visas. Asia will get 25% of visas, which is 25% of 55k, which is roughly 14k visas. As we said I am effectively number 10k in line, so I will get an interview?
Does that make sense?
Thanks
May 17, 2023 at 00:15
Well a number of problems.
1. We don’t know the holes rate, but it is likely to be higher than 50%. It will be stepped, impacted by winners from Nepal and Iran.
2. No show and refusal rate won’t be as high as 50%.
3. Asia has a quota of less than 9000 visas.
May 17, 2023 at 03:33
Asia has less than 9000? Only around 16% of total visas?
So lets say 60% holes and 30% no show and refusals? So 2024AS17xxx, has 4760 in front of it after removing holes and no shows/refusals. And on AVG each application gets 2 visas. So 9500 visas in front of it. More than 500 above the quota for Asia. So 2024AS17xxx is very borderline. But on your AMA video you answered to someone with 2024AS17xxx that he obviously has a good chance. Sounds like 17k is actually very borderline, no? Even with 35% no show/refusals 2024AS17xxx doesnโt make it if quota is less than 9000
May 17, 2023 at 04:02
on dv2022 asia got 11k issued visas from what I saw. Why do you think Asia will have less than 9k on 2024? Is the quota published somewhere?
thanks
May 18, 2023 at 10:13
The law describes how the quote must be calculated taking into account population, migration numbers and so on. So the quota is not calculated, but the data needed for the calculation is published and available. It is complicated, but I and others have calculated it.
The reason that DV2022 had higher numbers was another part of the same section of law that allows unused visas from one region to be distributed to the other regions. That happened in DV2022, and quite frankly, they lost control of the process. They actually exceeded the 55000 visas, which was a sign of the lack of control.
May 18, 2023 at 10:09
Again, you are making assumptions about the holes rate which don’t really make sense. You can do the math in any way you want to make predictions, but you are just wasting your time when you don’t have the key piece of information.
May 16, 2023 at 23:51
What are the lowest numbers you heard for Asia? I did not see anything lower than 17xx in several blogs and forums. Is it possible this yearโs numbers arenโt strting at zero?
Thanks

May 17, 2023 at 05:10
Dear Britsimon;
I am Mohammad Dawod Reazaee, an Afghan national and the winner of US develottery 2024, and my case number is 33xxx. unfortunately U.S doesn’t have embassy in Afghanistan, so most of Afghan winner select U.S embassy in Islamabad for interview, but someones says that the US embassy in Islamabad has a large number of visitors for processing P1, P2 and SIV cases, the develottery (green card) applicants with these case numbers are expected not to obtain an appointment within the allocated processing time period. I would like to know it is correct or not? if it is correct, what should I do ? unfortunately in Afghanistan isn’t open any embassy.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
May 18, 2023 at 10:38
That is the situation at this time. Of course we don not know what will happen by the time your number is current.
May 18, 2023 at 15:39
Hi Simon!
DV2024 / EU31xxx
First of all, thank you… again.
1. My wife was a DV2021 selectee – Goh plaintiff. Now I’m getting the opportunity.
I assume we can harmlessly proceed with the DS forms for DV2024, but what if we get an okay for DV2021 meanwhile?
2. Although our current passports are not expiring soon we must change them latest February 2024 because my country changed it’s name and that’s the deadline when all citizens must change their passports – could this be a concern?
3. Should we use the current passport numbers and unlock the form later during the year when we get the new ones, or an update wouldn’t be necessary?

1. Both applications can continue at the same time.
2. No problem. Keep documentation about the old passports.
3. Update is not strictly necessary.

Hi Simon,
since we can only speculate at the moment, assuming that the number of selectees, which has always been more or less similar from year to year, has not changed by many, could the fact that it also comes to CN EU00077xxx in Europe be due to a huge volume of applications from Ukraine and Eastern Europe in general because of the war?
This, combined with stricter control of applications, could have caused a hole rate of, for example, 75% in the first part of the series and 85% since the effect of surplus states begins.
What do you think?
Thank you!

Hi Simon,
Once again thanks for all the great info you provide.
I am 2024OC25XX.
I currently live and work in USA. I believe I qualify for AOS. I’m currently here in USA on an E3 visa (non immigrant treaty visa for Australians), which expires on 6th March 2024. I have been told by my employer that an AOS could take up to 12 months to Adjudicate once I submit I-485, and no International travel would be allowed during this time. Also, I understand that there is risk at renewing the E3 after I submit I-485. I know I have to maintain my E3 visa to be able to adjust status, so need to do this in Feb before it expires. All of this is a big issue as I’m employed as an International Airline Pilot and required to cross boarders all the time.
My company advise me to apply for overseas processing in Sydney. They say I can get it all done in about a month once I have the interview date. I haven’t submitted DS260 yet, not sure I even need to if I choose the AOS route? Just trying to decide which option is best.
Does 12 months sound reasonable to Adjudicate AOS? Seems very long.
Will I automatically be given an Interview in Sydney if I choose the overseas processing method as I applied for the DV on my Australian passport?
I am also British and Irish Citizen and would prefer to go there, if I go for overseas processing.
I heard London was a good Embassy, Dublin not so much, haven’t heard anything about Sydney yet.
Any ideas/info regarding processing times? Maybe I should wait to see how many case numbers are published before submitting DS260 or I-485? Sorry for the long questions, but it’s complicated.
Kind regards,
Thomas.

I understand your concern. You have been given some incorrect info. The AOS length of time for DV cases is NOT 12 months, but can take 2 to 4 months quite easily.
So – if not being able to travel is a problem for that timeline, then yes, CP becomes a reasonable choice. You only have to be “in country” for about 3 weeks for most cases (allow a week before the interview for the medical, and a good week+ for the return of the passport).
You tell KCC which country you want to process in, and they accept the choice based on close connections to that country.
Sydney is good, London is good, Dublin has a lower track record (smaller number of cases) but might be OK.

Hi Brit,
Thank you so much for the feedback! You have been very helpful indeed.
AOS might be the better option for me after all. Especially if it’s only a 2-4 month process.
Does AOS require a DS 260 to be submitted as well? Or is it just a case of submitting I-485 once your case number comes up on the Visa Bulletin board? I’m a little unsure. If so, maybe I should just submit the I-485 once I have renewed my E3 visa in late February. Remove any risk of loosing E3 status.
Is it worth writing to KCC to check most suitable option for me, given my E3 status?

For AOS, the DS260 is optional. We believe that filing the DS260 might speed up the process later, but we can’t be certain – so don’t create any problems by filing that early if you are doing AOS.
KCC won’t advise about ANY matter for DV – that is not their role.
The best page for DV related AOS advice is linked below. On the first post in that thread there is a spreadsheet with all the information your could possibly need.

I am one of the winner 2024 with high case numbers AS3****. I am currently working in Singapore and country origin from Burma.
I have summitted D-260 form with my old passport which will be expired on 23rd Oct 2024 as we have some difficulties to renew passport at Myanmar embassy( Singapore ). Would that be okay if i don’t inform/update new passport number to KCC when i get new number>>>
Another thing is ,my work permit going to expire this July 2023 and not sure able to extend another year due to my company have some quota issue. If there any chance that i have to go back my home town, can i come back and interview in Singapore since i already chosen this location in D-260 Form>>

1. Yes – you can simply show the new passport at the interview.

Hi Brit,
My name is Sara Alata a winner of 2024 dv lottery. When I applied for the lottery I mistakenly entered my DOB as dd/mm/yy while it should be as mm/dd/yy, my question is how to correct this mistake?
May 20, 2023 at 22:14
Make sure it is correct in the ds260. That’s all.

Hi Brit, while filling DS260 I forgot to enter my kid’s IDs for youtube accounts. I noticed this just after confirming forms. Do you think it is critically important thing and I should ask KCC for unlock DS?
Greetings
May 21, 2023 at 16:42
No need to unlock for that (especially since this is a derivative child).

My brother will turn 21 years old in June 2023 and the dv lottery 2024 start in 1 October 2023.
And also in what month you think they will go for interview?Maybe in December?
Thank you so much Gid Bless You.
May 21, 2023 at 22:36
October/November depending on DS260 processing.
May 21, 2023 at 22:35
Yes, probably. Your brother will be protected for a period of time – so as long as your fathers number is current before about November he will be covered.
