Please watch the video below to learn some important points about entering the video.
Some important points:
- The lottery registration will open on October 2 to November 5.
- Anyone can enter – including previous winners (including DV2020 winners).
- The countries ineligible is the same as last year PLUS Guatemala.
- The main applicant will need a passport to enter (unexpired on the date of entry). This doesn’t apply to a spouse (unless they are also entering, nor any children.
- This lottery will be the best chance in years because there will be fewer entries, more disqualifications and more visas available.
- I will be making a video about an actual entry within a few hours of opening.

Hi Brit! First of all thanks a lot for all your work! I have a question about the upcoming DV2022. I’m currently living in a South American country, but have dual citizenship of a EU country (passport included) my question is: can I apply from SA with the EU passport? (as long as the country is eligible) I’m asking because I’ve been applying from SA for the past 5 years but the SA selectee numbers are really low compared to the EU ones, and was wondering if I could do this to increase my chances.
And if selected, will I have to travel to the EU country for the interviews, or I can do them in the country I’m currently living in?
Again, thanks a lot!!
June 27, 2020 at 05:02
You apply based on place of birth.
July 1, 2020 at 16:13
Thanks a lot for the clarification!
November 6, 2019 at 08:07
Hi Sir Simon,
In our country there is an agency that makes people play without a passport they use another solution but that does not concern the presence of the passport.
After many research I realize in fact that the passport is mandatory and that if selected and you do not present the passport is the DISQUALIFICATION assured!
So, I wonder is that the fact of making false entries will not overload the number of selected
November 6, 2019 at 13:43
It might mean higher refused numbers in that country.
October 31, 2019 at 18:59
Hi Brit my passport has 10 numbers but can only type 9 numbers on the application page, what should I do? thanks
October 31, 2019 at 23:41
Drop the first character.
November 5, 2019 at 14:46
Hi Brit, where did you get that info? I called KCC and they said type the first 9 numbers
November 6, 2019 at 03:38
Either way would work. My way is better.
November 6, 2019 at 15:19
Hi Brit, Why your way is better?
November 7, 2019 at 01:46
Simple logic. But as I already said – either way would work.
October 30, 2019 at 12:56

October 31, 2019 at 15:59

October 24, 2019 at 17:10
My name was misspelled on the entry what can I do?
October 24, 2019 at 17:28
For now, nothing. If you are selected you can correct that in the next step.

Hello Brit,
I lived in China 2002 to 2007 where I studied my undergraduate course. Currently I am back home and don’t know any contact in China. Do I need to obtain a police clearance from China? I’ve left there since 2007
October 17, 2019 at 03:07
Yes – read the reciprocity page for China for instructions.
October 16, 2019 at 06:39

October 15, 2019 at 17:39
It may be still available. You need your personal details to access it through the CEAC system.
October 15, 2019 at 22:17
I tried accessing it but was told that the case number is for an ended program year. I need an information from it. Is there a way forward?

Hi Brit,
I have been hearing on utube that the public charge rule have been blocked and it will not going to take place on October 15. Is this news tru?
October 13, 2019 at 15:11
Trumps change has been temporarily blocked, but that does not change the situation for DV cases as they have to still prove they will not become a public charge.
October 14, 2019 at 00:52
Is form I-134 still mandatory ?
October 14, 2019 at 02:39
Nothing changed.

October 8, 2019 at 18:23
Hello mr Simon, thank you for your assistance. My wife and our two years old son got selected for dv2020. (1) How many years will it take me to join them in US after she files for me. We’re legally married but I was not in the initial entry so she will not mention me in ds260 form.

October 7, 2019 at 15:12
Hello sir,
I would like to know if it is alright to fill anything in the dv lottery with something that isnāt english? Not to lie or cheat or anything like that but for something like the address I live in which doesnāt really have an english way to write it in. So would I be disqualified if I write it in another language or if I give similar meaning to it in english? My home address doesnāt have an accurate number but it only has a name probably due to it being a small city. So Iām really not quite sure how to fill it up or if it is that important..
October 8, 2019 at 04:59
It will be OK
October 3, 2019 at 15:48
Dear Sir,
Thanks a lot just to make it clear i will list the kid in (mine and my wife) DS260 but will not create or submit ds260 for the kid himself if we will not take him with us to the US
Thanks again
October 3, 2019 at 12:38
I won this year 2020 but im from somalia so its not sure 2 get visa. Can i apply gor 2021 too??
October 3, 2019 at 20:52
Yes
October 3, 2019 at 09:21
morning britt, what i am trying to say is that at the end of the interview we were giving a note that says’ dear principle applicant, your case has been disqualified because you couldn’t proved relationship with the person added. But the note didn’t mention anything about Barr, can you please interpret this for me. because i want to know if it is possible for me us to play dv 2021. or are we barr form entering the US?
October 3, 2019 at 15:59
OK – so the reason for the refusal is clear – but I do not know whether they barred you or not. It would normally only be done if your deception was particularly grave.
October 3, 2019 at 05:26
Am married and we have a child but i don’t have documents to prove that in some government services as NHIF,HUDUMA NUMBER,CENSUS was taken as married my question is it wise to apply as married or single?
October 3, 2019 at 15:43
You are either married or you aren’t. If you are, apply as married. If not, apply as single.
October 3, 2019 at 15:48
Not legally married
October 3, 2019 at 05:16
Got it thanks so if they will not travel with me how i will exclude them on the DS260 ?????
Regards,
Moooooooo
October 3, 2019 at 05:14
Dear Sir,
Assumptions as below
1- i have listed the spouse children’s in entry Application of dv2020
2- then i have been selected
3- the father of the children will never allow them to travel
4- how i can exempt them from my DS260 in case they are now my derivatives
Appreciate your detailed response, and sorry for my poor english.
Regards,
Mooooooo
October 3, 2019 at 15:42
You said you did NOT list them in the entry!!! That is crucial – so be CLEAR.
If you DID include them then you list them on YOUR DS260s (both of you) but do NOT create/complete/submit their DS260s. THat is it.
October 3, 2019 at 05:10
Yes Sir am not arguing with you about but my point if i have been selected and i already mention them how i will take them if there is no approval from their original father, again in the ds260 should i list them in my derivatives or that time i can exempt them
Thanks for your detailed answer
Mooooo
October 3, 2019 at 05:11
Again, it is not important whether they will travel with you or not. You were REQUIRED to list all children. The instructions are really clear and you ignored the instructions.
October 3, 2019 at 04:39
Dear Mr Brit,
1- Based on your above answer there is no way to carry on with my DS260 of 2020 as i did not mention my wife child
2- in 2021 i have to mention him but again in the DS260 if i have been selected should i take him to the interview , in fact his father will never allow us to take him as step son not common in my country
Pleas make it clear
Thanks in advance
Moooooooo
October 3, 2019 at 05:02
Dear Mr Simon,
It is important for me i need to understand why i have to mention the child in the Entry application however i will will not take him to the US in case i have been selected as derivative on my DS260 please can you explain more about this point .
Thanks
Moooooo
October 3, 2019 at 05:05
It’s described Precisely in the instructions. This should not be a surprise to you!!
“Number of children ā List the name, date of birth, gender, city/town of birth, and country of birth
for all living unmarried children under 21 years of age, regardless of whether they are living with
you or intend to accompany or follow to join you, should you immigrate to the United States.
Submit individual photographs of each of your children using the same technical specifications as
your own photograph”
October 3, 2019 at 05:08
“all living step-children who are unmarried and under the age of 21 on the date of your
electronic entry, even if you are no longer legally married to the childās parent, and even if
the child does not currently reside with you and/or will not immigrate with you. ”
“Failure to list all children who are eligible will result in disqualification of the principal applicant
and refusal of all visa applications in the case at the time of the visa interview. ”
Couldn’t be more clear could it?
October 3, 2019 at 04:14
Dear Brit,
1- We have to list the child and inform on the entry application of 2021 and upload his picture
2- what if we already won the dv2020 already and we did not mentioned this child is that could disqualify us i meant in the DS260 should we mention him despite we will not take him during the travel if we got the visa sorry but i need more clarification regarding to this point
Regards,
Mooooooo
October 3, 2019 at 04:32
If you don’t mention the child in the entry you will be disqualified.
October 2, 2019 at 23:40
Hi sir, I want to be part of the 2021 lottery, I’m a high school graduate with Wace certificates. but the form I have here have a question like; high school degree, high school no degree, some vocational training, college degree . which one should I choose?
October 3, 2019 at 04:21
High school. no degree
October 2, 2019 at 22:21
Dear Brit,
My spouse been married before and she have a kid from her previous marriage relation but this child living with his father and noway to travel with us to US no matter happened so should i mention this kid in my DV-2021 application as well as getting his picture or it is ok to not mentioning him because i told you he will never allowed to travel by his father
Regards,
Mooooooo
October 3, 2019 at 04:09
You both have to list that child.
October 2, 2019 at 20:50
Hi Brit, my brother has a green card but he is not a citizen yet. He has a house in the US and he is working. Can he sign my I-134 form.
October 3, 2019 at 04:03
Yes
October 2, 2019 at 19:26
Hello Simon, please tell me what’s going on .. today, at the end of applying for dv 2021, when I pressed “submit” the whole site crashed down, with the classic notification “oops, this page is broken ..” and I didn’t get a confirmation number. Then I refreshed the page, but I had to fill out the whole form again, from the beginng. And I’ve got a confirmation number, the application was successful. So far my concern- whether the system will recognize this as a multiple entry, so I will end up the process as disqualified? Thank you.
Nancy
October 3, 2019 at 03:50
It’s fine.
October 2, 2019 at 19:08
Hello sir
Let’s assume that someone applied with valid passport and got selected by the time of the interview the passport expired and got new one is the CO would ask him about the passport he applied with.
Thank you sir
October 3, 2019 at 03:48
Yes, so you keep proof.
October 2, 2019 at 18:30
Hello Brit! I have a diploma certificate. At the highest level of education on DV lottery form, what should I select of choose?
October 3, 2019 at 03:47
Use some judgement.
October 2, 2019 at 18:28
Hi Simon
Why would a couple be denied a lottery visa because of
1 section 212(a)(5) which prohibits the issuance of a visa to anyone who does not meet labour certification requirements and qualifications for certain immigrants.
2 No waiver available for the grounds of ineligibility
Plz explain this cuz i don’t understand
The principal applicant meet the high school requirements
And the couple never travel to the US before.
Tnx in advance
October 3, 2019 at 03:47
THat error is used for failing to follow the process correctly, not meeting requirements and so on. Normally the CO writes or explains the reason.
October 2, 2019 at 17:28
Hi Mr Brit, I’m Nelson case number AF69***. I appreciate the help you’ve been rendering. Please I wish to know 1,the total number of selectees for dv2020. 2, the number of holes. 3, how many numbers have been called already. WILL I GET A CHANCE FOR AN INTERVIEW AND WHEN CAN I SUBMIT MY FORM. THANKS
October 3, 2019 at 03:42
I have written other articles about that – click the archive link above and take a look.
October 10, 2019 at 07:58
Thanks Brit…
October 2, 2019 at 17:07
Hi Britsimon
For entering 2021 do we need internal (National) passport or foreign passport? I notice that national ID is filled in English
October 3, 2019 at 02:21

October 5, 2019 at 09:46
Hi Brit, please I wish to know on which website can I monitor case numbers that are current now. I’m a dv2020 selectee thanks for your quick reply

October 2, 2019 at 16:53
Hello BritSimon,
There is a strange and interesting phenomenon š lol lol . Straight 30 minutes after the DV lottery 2021 opens, there is no DoS and no traffic of extremely huge proportions on the site….The passport requirement has worked its magic. Beautiful
October 3, 2019 at 02:19
Yup.
October 2, 2019 at 15:23
Thank you Brits!! I’m at U.S can I play for my friends ??
October 3, 2019 at 02:11
Yes
October 2, 2019 at 14:18
* does this means we are barr from dv lottery and from entering the USA or she and i we can play again*
October 2, 2019 at 14:03
hi britt, 2018 my wife and i got denied because the c.o officer said we couldn’t prove that our relationship was real after she added me after she won when in fact we are legally married does this mean that we been barr for dv program or entering the US can we try again this year.
October 3, 2019 at 02:04
I don’t know in your particular case. Try again.
October 2, 2019 at 05:05
Hi brit if i get form i-134 for my friend in the US is it possible the CO can ask me bank statement or only need that form
October 3, 2019 at 01:46
Generally that form is enough.
October 1, 2019 at 14:51
Pretty strange that the DV website hasn’t updated yet… Last year it showed the upcoming registration dates quite some time in advance…
October 2, 2019 at 03:23
Oh man. NOTHING unusual. The instructions are already posted.
October 2, 2019 at 15:52
Oh man, I’m talking about the dvlottery.state.gov site, not the one with the instructions. it IS unusual as in two previous DVs they updated this site with the dates well ahead of the opening time. I’m not implying it has any meaning, just different.
October 3, 2019 at 02:14
What proof do you have that it is different? To my recollection this is what they always do. Why create a mystery when there is none?
