Please watch the video below to learn some important points about entering the video.
Some important points:
- The lottery registration will open on October 2 to November 5.
- Anyone can enter – including previous winners (including DV2020 winners).
- The countries ineligible is the same as last year PLUS Guatemala.
- The main applicant will need a passport to enter (unexpired on the date of entry). This doesn’t apply to a spouse (unless they are also entering, nor any children.
- This lottery will be the best chance in years because there will be fewer entries, more disqualifications and more visas available.
- I will be making a video about an actual entry within a few hours of opening.

Hi Sir,
Regarding to the passport, is it ok if the passport valid till second half of the next year (2020)? and what would happen if I register with current passport number and later on I change to new passport number ? would it affect the chance or being exclude ?
Thank you,
October 1, 2019 at 13:48
All OK. Just keep proof of the current passport.
October 1, 2019 at 10:47
Dear britsimon,
I am from Nepal. I want to join for dv 2021.but one confusing things is that due to the political changes most of the places of Nepal’s parmanent address has changed in new naming . When entering dv process it is better to use previous address or new one?because in national ID and passport we have previous address and birth certificate and marriage certificate has with a new naming permanent address. Hearing your kindly reply.
October 1, 2019 at 13:47
New address.
October 1, 2019 at 15:11
Thank you sir for your great support and quick response.

Hi Brit,
I was born Ghana and migrated to the Netherlands. Currently I hold a Netherlands Passport and residing in the UK as a EU citizen. My question is which country should I claim eligibility?
Both Ghana and Netherlands are eligible
Thanks in advance.
October 1, 2019 at 13:43
Country of birth!
October 1, 2019 at 07:21
Hi Brit,
This’s regarding the including the details of children. The official procedure is you must include all living unmarried children under 21 years of age. I understand that part.
I’ve 2 children OVER 21. In the DV lottery form it want to mention number of children. Then the answer must be “0”
Am I correct?
Then in DS-260 under the part of “Family Information:Children” it asked about Do you have any children. So then the answer must be “No”
Am I correct?
Then that means I don’t want to mention about my 2 children OVER 21 in any where or any document?
Thanks !!!
October 1, 2019 at 13:39
1. Yes
2. Correct.
October 1, 2019 at 03:08
Hi BritSimon,
I just arrived to USA. I was wondering how I can pay the fee for green card. Can I pay in cash? or send me the link for online pay’t.
Thanks,
October 1, 2019 at 04:00
You were given instructions to pay online – USCIS Elis.
October 1, 2019 at 13:41
I wasn’t given instructions(yellow paper) during the interview because I had to complete medical requirements. That’s why I asked u.
Thanks again.
October 1, 2019 at 14:29
No. You were given instructions when you got your visa. NOT during the interview.
October 2, 2019 at 22:33
My visa was sent via DHL. Nobody talked to me. So, BritSimon or anyone else, please show me the way.
Thanks,
October 3, 2019 at 04:12
Patience is one way. Talking to DHL is another.
September 30, 2019 at 14:57
Hello kind sir, I have been following your blog quite recently and it’s extremely helpful. So thank you so much. I’m still new to the whole dv thing. So I have a question. My family want to apply for the 2021DV but I doubt I’ll be counted in their applicant considering I am 19, right? We both might apply differently but my father isn’t very good at writing in english and considering I don’t have confidence in my english enough to fill the applicant without making any mistakes.. (I don’t want to ruin my father chance with a mistake of mine either) So my kindly father suggested we check an agent to fill the information for us with a small fee. I know in the video you said it lowers our chances if we depend on an agent. But what is worrying me the most is the thing you said about immigration fraud. Would paying an agent to fill it for us with our details be considered as immigration fraud? Would it affect the interview later if we actually happen to be picked? I hope I didn’t waste your time with my questions.. Thanks in advance.
October 1, 2019 at 03:09
Your english is fine to fill in this simple form. I would advise against using an agent.
September 30, 2019 at 08:57
Bello Simon, if i play as single now, win the lottery and later get married to my girlfriend. Can she be included in the Visa procession? Or can i travel with her to the US?
October 1, 2019 at 02:52
Yes
September 30, 2019 at 04:31
Hi Simon,
I am currently in USA under F1 visa and will be graduating in May 2020. I will be applying for F1 OPT this year. Will applying for DV hurt my chances of OPT, telling that it shows immigration intent? Also now that passport number is required, there will be proof that (kinda) that I have immigration intent since I applied for DV.
September 30, 2019 at 13:41
No.
Entering the lottery is not considered immigrant intent.
September 29, 2019 at 09:59
Hello sir. Am from sierra leone but am in liberia with my sierra leonean passport. Can I enter the october dv with the sierra leonean passport.
September 29, 2019 at 15:31
Yes
September 29, 2019 at 08:04
Hi Brit, I heard that a federal lawsuit has been filed to challenge the nex decision of passeport requirement prior the entry.
What are the chances of this decision been removed before or in between the entry period?
September 29, 2019 at 15:30
I don’t know. Some of the statements by the plaintiffs are clearly incorrect and will be easily shown to be so.
October 2, 2019 at 16:34
ok thanks
September 29, 2019 at 06:37
Hi.
Myself and my wife will apply. Both of us are eligible since we were born in Jordan. My baby (10 months old) was born in Canada and he is Canadian and Jordanian national. Which information about the baby to be used?
September 29, 2019 at 15:22
Canadian.
September 28, 2019 at 16:28
why u been so rood to people, u don’t know what u says before ! by his case number u told us his interview is be net November/December/but he got an email for November/3/2019/ also before this comment I asked u this question u reply us (Either One) what is that mean! me or my sister! that’s why i get confused ?♀️ I try to double check! if u not sure what u saying to people Stop ?✋?don’t get people confused also if u not happy with what u doing don’t do it✋?stopped?
September 28, 2019 at 16:55
Wow.
First, “either one” is VERY clear when you are asking between two choices such as you or your sister. Either one was a clear answer.
Second, I think you are trying to say I am rude, not “rood”. I was not rude to you, but reserve the right to be rude whenever I want!
Third, you finally say you have no income, which means the whole thing was obviously a waste of my time. How can you provide financial sponsorship with no income??? It’s not hard really is it?
Jeez. Some people.
September 28, 2019 at 17:09
Go google what is that mean Either one ?? Yes u are very rude with most of the people they asking you!??♀️ all your information it’s not correct, and most of the time you make people Sad because of ur negative answer, that is my last reply for u i don’t want waste my time to make u correct and to teach you be nice with people, every one in the world is professional in something , don’t be selfish and don’t think every one is stupid, respect ✊ ur self first ??
September 28, 2019 at 17:22
LOL. I speak English pretty well. No need to google that!
So now ALL of my information is not correct and MOST of the time I make people sad.
What a tantrum.
October 1, 2019 at 01:27
Sir,
It is kind of people angry because you are giving us free information without asking nothing. You destroyer their mark et so it is undestandable. They used To lie.
Thank you for all
September 27, 2019 at 21:36
Hello Sir, i hope u have a blessing day, I’m a U.S citizen, my husband he is one of the Dv winner for 2020,we done all steps his interview on Nov/03/19 ,we have to do form I-134 before his interview?if yes can i fill out the I-134 form for him ? because since last December I’m out of country for temporary I don’t have any income in U.S.A,and in his application I’m the Beneficiary, if I’m not qualify to do that, my sister she is a US citizen she can do that for him?is not cost any problems for his case?! Thank you so much for you best advice ??We appreciated ur time and reply.
September 28, 2019 at 04:35
Either one.
September 28, 2019 at 11:17
But I’m out side of the USA for now, I don’t have any income! It’s ok? Could you please tel me how come? Because I’m his wife and U.S citizen? Im confuse ,thanks dear ??
September 28, 2019 at 15:12
Then if you don’t have income, pretty obviously, you cannot sponsor anyone. It’s not rocket science.
September 27, 2019 at 15:36
Thanks so much Brit.
September 27, 2019 at 06:16
can he apply for married or single
September 27, 2019 at 23:32
Who? What are you talking about?
September 27, 2019 at 02:06
Hi Simmon. I lost my passport and I reported it in INTERPOL police station. Currently, I’m in process of getting new one, but in my country Venezuela this process lasts for months. What should I do?
September 27, 2019 at 23:29
If you don’t have a passport, you can’t enter the lottery.
September 26, 2019 at 22:00
Hi Britsimon,
This is really great. With the introduction of the requirement for a passport for the applicant, there will now be total elimination of agents who buy people’s data and mass register them with the same email account. I was denied for DV2018 after 3 interviews and 2 denial letters because the first CO insisted I entered twice, with the second CO unable to overturn the previous decision. My fingers are cross for DV2021
September 28, 2019 at 12:39
Hi Brit,I want to get some information straight from u.
1.is expired passport accepted?
For eg:I get my passport July 29,2014 and it get expire July 29,2019 can I still play?
September 28, 2019 at 15:17
No.
September 26, 2019 at 17:31
hello Simon,
My sister asked me a question yesterday which I wanted to ask you. Her passport expired in January 2017 and was extended in the same year for 3 years. It was extended until January 2020. there is one stamp in one of the pages of the passport from the embassy and it states that the passport was extended until January 2020. Do you think it is valid for DV 2021 application?
September 27, 2019 at 00:16
Yes
September 26, 2019 at 17:21
What if my husband has a new passport can we apply it??and I don’t have a passport..thanks
September 27, 2019 at 00:15
He can apply.
September 27, 2019 at 09:58
Hi brit, thank so much for the information given us,I want to use this chance as my best chance of winning in the dv 2021are n my wife.but I have two question on mind plz help me
1.i work out station, which is very Faraway,I am married,is it possible to play I alone n fill in the form with my requirement because my wife is not close to me,and still fill in the form as marriage despite she is not close to me n her photo will not be taken at that moment?
2.should I leave the job a week to go n come to town n wait for the day for us both to play together?
September 27, 2019 at 23:35
1. NO!!!! You must enter as married.
2. Yes.
September 26, 2019 at 14:22
Hi Brit. First I want to thank you for the videos you send online lately. They have really been of great help. But I saw on the instruction booklet page 4 number 13 on the last paragraph about marital status in the case where a spouse is an American citizen or a lawful permanent resident. How does it work with the other when applying for DV?
September 28, 2019 at 04:46
You enter, but no need to list the citizen spouse.
September 26, 2019 at 08:18
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
September 25, 2019 at 23:13
Mr BritSimon thank you so much for those videos, My question is! I have a 9 and 2 yrs old daughter´s with my girlfriend…though not legally married to her. Can I include them in my application for dv2021?
September 26, 2019 at 04:01
You MUST include them.
September 25, 2019 at 20:47
Hey Brit. My country Kenya is currently transitioning from the ordinary passport to the new electronic passport. Apparently for the ones who have already obtained the new passports ,the passport number is different. My question is since my old passport has not expired and I can still travel with it until March 2020 which is the epassport deadline, should I replace it and apply for the greencard using the new generation epassport or can I use my current one which has not expired to apply. Its probably an irrelevant question but I feel I need clarity on the issue.
September 26, 2019 at 03:57
Just an unexpired passport. That’s all.
September 25, 2019 at 17:28
Hello Mr Brit, i am married and my husband will apply (stating that he has a wife, me). Can I also apply on my own and specify that i had a husband, himself? Would that double our chances, or that’s not allowed? Thank you
September 26, 2019 at 03:43
Yes, each can apply.
September 25, 2019 at 07:59
My wife get her unexpired passport in her single name
Can she apply with it though she going to apply in her married name.
Exp: sing named on passport:Mary Johnson, Marry name: Mary J Williams
Is it acceptable?
September 26, 2019 at 00:32
Yes.
September 29, 2019 at 10:07
Pardon me Simon
I really need to get this clear because it suits my own question too.
I think what he is saying is that he is married to Mary Johnson
And Mary Johnson in the name stated in the Passport
Now she is no longer Mary Johnson but Mary J Williams.
What he is asking now is
Can Mary Johnson apply and include the husband, as Mary J Williams even though the Passport and maybe other qualifying documents are Mary Johnson?
Or can she still apply as Mary Johnson and still include her husband as Xxxxxx Williams?
It will Look Like
Applicant:
Mary J Williams (PP NAME: Mary Johnson)
Derivative: xxxxxxx Williams
Or
Applicant:
Mary Johnson (PP NAME: Mary Johnson)
Derivative: xxxxxx Williams
Pls Simon explain in detail
September 29, 2019 at 15:34
Either way is OK if the name used is the legal name of the applicant. Former names can also be shown in the DS260. That is crystal clear.
September 24, 2019 at 23:48
Hi,
1- Me and my wife can we apply differently the Dv lottery 2021, or I be the main applicant an I include her?
2- both of us we have the passport, if it is allowed to apply differently and the same time we include each other, do you thing the chances of winning will be higher?
September 25, 2019 at 02:51
1. Each one can apply, listing the other as a derivative. So – two applications in total.
2. Two entries is two chances.
September 24, 2019 at 12:09
Hey Brit.
As passport is required for entry of DV 2021 my question’s if you enter and later on your passport is stolen what’ll happen on your interviewday?
Secondely if u enter the DV as a parent but
U didin’t enter with ur children because they live with the mother who’s ur ex wife, what’ll u do to include them and can u do interview with them is that possible?
Thanks
September 24, 2019 at 13:22
To avoid all of that just snap and keep a copy in your email , you can print if it happens.
Include your children go and snap them and also if you did not legally divorced with your wife yet include her. Failure to do so is disqualification at the interview.
September 25, 2019 at 02:33
Sounds like you are planning to lie/cheat. Don’t.
September 24, 2019 at 11:09
Hi BritSimon
Dv lottery winner 2020AF62xxxx, I entered 2020 lottery as single and I have already returned DS 260 form as single. I would like to enter 2021 dv lottery as married (to include both my husband and my two children) because I am now living with my husband and two children, and are in the process of legalizing our marriage. Though we were married under customary marriage, I failed to include both my husband and children during the early entry (2020 dv lottery) because there was some issues and we were not living together, the issue are now sorted.
Could this lead to disqualification in case I become the winner of 2021 lottery, for I do not what unlock the DS 260 to include my husband?
September 25, 2019 at 02:29
Your DV2020 case should be disqualified because you lied. I assume you know that. If you tell the truth in DV2021 and get selected again, you might be OK – but lying to the US government is a pretty foolish thing to do.
September 24, 2019 at 06:58
Hai Bristimon,I get some questions
I observed the visa status check is down, and pop up window that shows either refused administrative processing, or issued don’t display.
What is going on?
For the Dv 2021,In 2016 i got Married to my for wife who won 2016,and we both went for an interview and was place under AP.
We both never came out of AP till September 30.Now am divorce with her since 2017,and am happily married to another person.
I want my wife and I to play .
Will this old travelling history affect my chances at interview when selected?
My new wife get her unexpired passport in her single name
Can she apply with it though she going to apply in her married name.
Exp: sing named on passport:Mary Johnson, Marry name: Mary J Williams
Is it acceptable?
September 25, 2019 at 02:06
1, I don’t know.
2. Travelling history??? You mean suspicious marriage history? Yes it might.
3. Yes.
September 24, 2019 at 03:51
Hi Simon,
Will entrants from the banned countries who live in USA have higher chance of winning since their native who live in banned countries will not be able to process if they were selected? In other words each country has a share of visa numbers so if they cant be processed will they give more chance for ones who live in the US.
Thank you,
September 24, 2019 at 04:37
No – countries are not allocated visas.
September 24, 2019 at 03:37
Hi sir. Me and my former wife was due for an interview in 2016, we never went for the interveiw. Now that am married to different person, how should I play this october dv.
September 24, 2019 at 04:36
With the truth.
September 24, 2019 at 09:27
Hi sir. I agree with you to play with the truth, but there is no where on the form to explain what I told you. In october dv. Should I select married or divorced?
September 25, 2019 at 02:19
The truth would mean married – correct? It really is not hard.
The. Truth.
September 23, 2019 at 19:59
If you are married and you are filling up the application as a married person do you need a passport for your spouse or kid?
September 23, 2019 at 20:23
No. But if your spouse ALSO wants to enter – they would need their own passport for THAT entry.
September 23, 2019 at 20:38
Thank you
September 23, 2019 at 19:43
Hi Brit!
My passport will be expired on may 2020.
I watched your video and you mentioned that the passport details must be correct during the application time and interview.
Am i able to apply the lottery this year?
Thank you!
September 23, 2019 at 20:23
Yes. Enter with the current passport. Renew later, but keep proof of the current passport.
September 23, 2019 at 16:53
Hi Mr.Simon,
Currently i’m following my associate degree and hope to complete in next july. but my country asks a bachelors degree because i’m not met by G.C.E Advanced Level. so can i apply for the program? because currently i’m not completed my Associate.
Thanks
September 23, 2019 at 20:14
You ca apply since you only have to meet the requirement by the time of interview which would be a LONG time from now.
September 24, 2019 at 00:44
So is it okay to add high school no degree? when filling the application?
September 24, 2019 at 04:34
Yes
September 24, 2019 at 09:18
If you are from Sri Lanka, completing all three core subjects in G.C.E A/L is a MUST to proceed the further processing/Interview, even though you are selected from draw.
September 23, 2019 at 16:43
Does the embassy only request for DNA test for your kids when they are in doubt or once your your kids are added for the DV processing, you are required to have a DNA test.
September 23, 2019 at 18:55
Hi Brit, have a quick question and hope you will kindly reply. I have two kids and both of them are us citizens by birth. In my lottery application, do I list zero for number of eligible children. Thanks!
September 23, 2019 at 19:14
Correct.
September 23, 2019 at 20:54
Thanks
September 23, 2019 at 20:13
It is rare to need DNA, so cases where it is needed.
September 23, 2019 at 13:26
Please my wife has filled for me and our children but since June this year we had a letter indicating that our application has been received, we have not hear from them.
Please how long does it takes?
Thanks
September 23, 2019 at 19:46
It depends on your case number.
September 23, 2019 at 10:21
I have a question i have a wife but we don’t have any document to prove that also we have a child can i fill as married during entry? But it’s know to parents and relatives and we stay together
September 23, 2019 at 19:33
You must be able to prove a legal marriage. If you can’t because you never performed a legally recognized marriage, then enter as single. You can marry if selected. You must BOTh list your child.
September 23, 2019 at 02:26
I saw in ur youtube video that u erased the background of the photo to have a white background. Do u think that altering the image’s lighting using photoshop to get a white background is acceptable?
September 23, 2019 at 02:39
Yes, if it is VERY minimal as I did.
September 23, 2019 at 01:54
Does the passport condition goes for all the entries in a application or just for the main application? I mean a main applicant with his/her family. Thanks.
September 23, 2019 at 02:15
Nust the applicant.
September 23, 2019 at 00:32
Why should previous winner apply for the visa lottery again
September 23, 2019 at 01:07
Why not?
September 23, 2019 at 01:11
The way I look at it they should not apply again because they have own. They should live chances to those who haven’t own
September 23, 2019 at 01:12
Each person can do what is best for him or herself.
September 23, 2019 at 01:17
Thank you Brit
September 30, 2019 at 21:17
Hi Brit, I just finished watching you Vedio on public charge and I have a question to ask you concerning my case. I a 2020 dv lottery. I m student in the US on J 1 Visa I m done with my masters degree and i m working on a doctorate degree. I will be done with my doctorate degree in 2021. I have a part time job which has something like 20-30$ annually. My wife has a masters degree from Africa and have only one son. Do we still need to fill I-134 form with all those qualification and income?
October 1, 2019 at 03:34
You’re smart. Why would you create a risk? Get an I-134.
October 1, 2019 at 03:45
I don’t understand you well. Are you saying that I still need to get an I-134 form
September 22, 2019 at 23:28
Hey Mr.BritSimon,i have 2 questions please even i red the instruction but still I’m confused 1-Dv winner for 2020 is need a sponsor in USA? 2- before the interview they have to do medical exam or after interview? Thank you for all ur hard working .
September 23, 2019 at 00:03
1. A financial sponsor possibly. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
2. Before interview.

September 22, 2019 at 20:11
Hey Brit…is someone who is in USA for studies but is from the selected countries still able to apply for the lottery?
September 22, 2019 at 20:25
Yes
September 22, 2019 at 19:37
Hi Simon,
Is civil marriage acceptable for the dv lottery?
September 22, 2019 at 19:49
If it is legal marriage in your country, yes.
September 22, 2019 at 18:14
Hi Brit.
What you mean when you say that’s going tobe more disqualifications?
September 22, 2019 at 19:17
Did you watch the video? Passports are required this year – some will try to cheat the system and be disqualified. Also there were more disqualifications in DV2020 so they are using tighter checks.
September 22, 2019 at 17:33
Hello Brit,
Me and my wife are from France. Her parents are from Comoros (Born & Citizenship). Does she have more chances to be selected using her parents path ? Thank you
September 22, 2019 at 19:46
No. Far less chance, and a lot more risk. Enter France.
September 22, 2019 at 17:25
Hi Brit, do you think I still have hope of been call for my DNA result cuz I have less than a week for the dv 2019 to be close?
September 22, 2019 at 19:44
There is hope until the last day.
September 22, 2019 at 17:05
Does applying for dv2021 with the passport details makes it less likely to get a tourist visa after that?
September 22, 2019 at 19:43
No
September 22, 2019 at 16:28
I pray I will have more wins for my family and friends since new requirement has been introduced
September 22, 2019 at 16:18
Thanks Simon. With passport requirement, only genuine one can apply! Great move.
