Once you receive your interview notification (the 2NL) you may be required to create an online account with a courier service that the embassies use to manage their communications with appointment holders. Id this registration is required, it will be communicated to you, or described in the embassy spefic instructions.
I regularly get questions on how to register, even though it is a very simple process. In general I think people just don’t pay attention to the choices, and they see messages like “there are no appointments available” or something similar. Because the embassies don’t all use the same system, I have avoided creating instructions before, but after one more question this morning, I have caved in. 🙂
So – in order to try and guide you, if you need that help, please read below.
Not all the systems will be identical. But one of the common courier systems is at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/
In their system you first of all choose the country/language you want.
Once you have chosen your country/language, on the next page you will scroll down until you see the link to REGISTER as arrowed below. Select that link.
You then see the sign up button and will choose the option shown below, or something with similar wording.
The next page is where people go wrong. There are a list of options, several of which will take the use to a place to try and book an appointment. As a DV case you ALREADY HAVE your 2NL which shows you appointment. You only need to create an account.
For some reason people sometimes don’t read all the available options, and miss the one that I have highlighted below. It mentions Diversity Lottery, so I would think that would be most obvious to people, but I am surprised that I still get questions.
So choose the option that mentions Diversity Lottery (or DV lottery) and from there it should be straightforward.
You only need one account for the family. So complete the details as required and you will be all set.
That’s it! Not complicated at all!

Hi Brit,
My sister in law, 2024AF00107XXX interviewed 9/11 in Nairobi, visa issued on CEAC.
Everyone with a case number higher than 2024AF100K for Nairobi was not able to register. It keeps saying that the case number is “invalid”.
We contact technical support listed on the website without a response.
Do you think it is a good idea to ask the embassy of the possibility of picking up the visas in person at the embassy?
September 15, 2024 at 07:58
Maybe. Ask the embassy.

Hello, I have an interview date for 2025 and during the registration of the appointment I made a mistake in my wife’s last name, I wrote only one, not two last names as it is in the passport. does it pose any problem?
Also, is it too late to prepare the documents because the email for October 7th arrived today?
September 9, 2024 at 14:53
Ideally your DS260 should have the correct name. If that is not the case, you might be able to correct that at the interview.
You will have to do your best with arranging for documents and medicals. If anything is missing, your case will simply be “on hold” (221g) while you provide missing documents.

Dear Simon, What if I’ve mistakenly chosen the first option “I have received a Consular interview appointment date from the National Visa Center (NVC), Kentucky Consular Center (KCC), or the Consular Section and I have been instructed to register my appointment on this site”, instead of the forth one about DV on the website https://ais.usvisa-info.com while registering the account? Will I face any problems with getting a visa?

No

Hi @ Britsimon,
I have created an account for interview appointment for dv 2024 and received a mail stating an account has been created and a unique identification number is also given, but didn’t create for my family, Is there a problem for our interview appointment?
Your information is always much appreciated.
August 29, 2024 at 16:20
No problem

Can one use the “Other Travel Document” option on the DS-260 form if you don’t have a passport yet and submit the ds260 form and do your passport in a later day?
August 27, 2024 at 12:45
Yes

Hi dear Brit
I am a 2024 dv lottery winner and I have been scheduled for interview on september 9th,,,
I am the principal applicant and my wife and my son are in my file as well.
I want to know if it is possible that I attend the interview alone and do not apply for my son and my wife for green card?
In fact I want to be the only person who gets the green card.
August 17, 2024 at 09:45
Yes that is possible.

August 15, 2024 at 09:10
It depends on how Addis performs for DV2025. In DV2024 they did not reach that number because they didn’t take enough interviews.

August 13, 2024 at 20:45
Hi BritSimon,
Does US embassy in Sierra Leone request for an affidavit of support from DV winners?
Or is it a must to have it?
August 13, 2024 at 22:58
I don’t know about SL specifically, but it is a wise idea to obtain one if possible.
August 13, 2024 at 19:25
I have tried on several attempts to register my appointment but my country isn’t displaying.

It looks like I messed up the registration, the only applicant I added was myself not my wife and the child.
Problem?
August 12, 2024 at 16:20
You mean in registering for the embassy appointment?? Not the original entry – right?
In that case its fine.
August 14, 2024 at 02:30
Yes, registering for the embassy appointment.
There is a menu to add participants – no hurt to add my wife and child I guess?
I received confirmation about the appointments time and date, but now only my name stands as an applicant, and we are all going at the interview.
Thanks!
August 14, 2024 at 09:32
No problem.
August 12, 2024 at 14:16
Hello BritSimon!
Before i received notification about your post on this topic, I have chosen the ‘I need to register my appointment’ and not the last ‘DV’ option. Added spouse and child using ‘add another applicant’, and afterwards received an email informing me that I have ‘successfully registered my DV appointment’ with three of us listed as applicants. Would that be ok, or it might cause some kind of issues?
August 12, 2024 at 14:20
No problem.
August 12, 2024 at 14:28
