Could you please advise me,
Do I have to translate my native documents such as school transcripts and degrees etc..in my home country or in the country where I’am going to have the interview (country of residence).Thank you in advance dear Britt.
June 13, 2016 at 01:59
Documents need to be translated into English OR the official language of the interviewing embassy.
June 13, 2016 at 11:28
So it does not matter where I’am going to do the translation as long as it is an accredited translator?
June 13, 2016 at 14:04

Hai, Today attended interview in sri lanka. Quite simple . The consular said all r ok except not enough affidavit of support . Asked us to find joint sponsor. Finally he said Congrats both of us. But he requested to send mail with affadavit of support with supportive documents from joint sponsor.
They gave yellow page document with required documents.
1. Can we find sponsor from another States . I already submitted a sponsor from New York with 27000 usd.
2. now i found my relative from taxas . Can i send his documents as my joint sponsor ?
3. After sent documents from sponsor who are n Texas , can we stay at new york ?? Because we put first sponsor mailing address n ds 260 form.
Thanks in advance.
June 14, 2016 at 13:32
The sponsor can live anywhere – and you somewhere else.
June 15, 2016 at 03:56
Hi brit ,
Thank you for your response. If I get another joint sponsor as requested by embassy at interview , wil it affect / change ds 260 form ?
They requested to send only the sponsor’s documents by mail. They keep every things with them. can you please send in detail. Thank you.

Hello Mr Simon my husband is a principal applicant and we (2 children) are livng in another country under student visa. Or interview is 1st of july. We are not allowd to work here but we do some work. It seems like we are most likely to be asked how we live here as a student. What if we tell the truth about working illegally? I am so concerned
June 18, 2016 at 03:59
You won’t be asked, but if you are, tell the truth.
June 19, 2016 at 13:32
Thank you very much for your great help. I have another question. I realizd i didnt include my previous address. I went to Denmark to sudy for 5 months i thought it’s unnecessary since i wasnt there for 6 months now i realized i should ve . Do know if they already found out i was in Denmark when i have nterview. My interview is already scheduled .
June 19, 2016 at 17:08
I don’t know whether they will know about that, but it was foolish to leave it off. Mention it in your interview.
June 19, 2016 at 18:04
Because of this mistake do you think i might be asked to submit a police clearence?
June 21, 2016 at 13:39
hi simon, how can i get my comfrimation # if i lost it? pls help me.
June 21, 2016 at 15:04
There is a link for lost confirmation number on the ESC site. Use that.
June 24, 2016 at 18:46
Us embassy in seoul on the insyruction it says passports, appointment letter and medical examination should be ready before the interview. Without these items you will not be accepted. Does mean if we dont have to hzvr one of these our interview wont tske place? We cant manage to complete mediicals before the interview. We really want be in our interview. I thought they put us on AP after the interview?
June 24, 2016 at 19:35
That depends o the policy of the embassy.

July 3, 2016 at 23:16

July 6, 2016 at 16:58
Hi when we fill the DS-260 form. My husband’s father’s name is not correct. There is exchanges of two alphabets. Is that will be a problem?
July 6, 2016 at 17:45
Yes it could be a problem. Unlock and fix it.
July 6, 2016 at 17:22
Hello again thanks for the first reply. Just the last question. Can you give me the exact website to check the interview date?
July 6, 2016 at 17:44
It’s the dv lottery ESC page.
July 7, 2016 at 07:10
Thanks, you are really helping me out. How could I unlock it??
July 7, 2016 at 14:39
Use the search icon (magnifying glass) above. Type “Unlock”
July 10, 2016 at 00:30
We have an interview in the coming days and the main winner is the mother does not have a high school diploma but have a certificate of experience kindergarten teachers and a certificate of training, but also in the ds 260 was introduced in the job titles preschool teachers What is the solution of the problem and thank
July 10, 2016 at 00:49
It has been writing mistake in the job title mentor preschool teacher instead of kindergarten teacher all this in the DS260
July 10, 2016 at 01:33
You simply have to discuss with the CO.
July 19, 2016 at 06:27
My interview was yesterday, they said i am qualified but i need to provide original signed form i-134 with tax return for the sponsor, and send them for visa.
does that mean i will be rejected or it is normal and they will give me visa if i sent the documents.
really i feel frustrated,
July 19, 2016 at 14:17
It’s a pity you didn’t have that with you (as I always recommend!). What embassy was that?
It means they are giving you a chance to rectify the mistake by providing the I-134. You will be on AP (Administrative processing) until you provide it. It would be best to get that to them ASAP – so move fast!
July 20, 2016 at 07:41
July 31, 2016 at 17:12
Finally i got my visa ???,, thank you very much Brit for your advice which helped us very much to get the visa

With respect to the information published under Visa section on marriage, which I quote below. I would like to have some clarification.
Available for marriages entered into under civil law from the Principal Registrar of Marriages, C/O Registrar General’s Office, P.O. Box 118, Accra, Ghana. There is a fee for this service. Most marriages are performed under customary law, and written records are kept only if the couple chooses to register the marriage with the local council. Persons married under customary law who subsequently wish to marry under civil law must obtain a civil marriage certificate which reflects the words “married under native customary law” in the space provided for “condition.” Polygamous marriage is permissible under the customary law of some groups, but not under civil law.
My case is, I married my wife under customary marriage a year before blessing our marriage in the church due to some requirements in the church process, and then obtained a marriage certificate.
When filling visa application form, I will like to know which date to use as marriage date ( customary marriage date, which is without certificate) or (church wedding date, which came with certificate)
July 20, 2016 at 22:43
If both dates are before the DV lottery win, it doesn’t matter which date you choose. But, if the date is important, I would use the customary date.

My family and I were interview yesterday and everything went smooth. So, at the end the interviewer told us your case approved for my entire (wife, 2 kids and I). After one hour from our interview, we received text message and email told us your case status updated and the cards ordered but my wife case number not updated and at the same time, we did not receive any confirmation for my wife either on email or text message. I checked my case online for me and my kids and all cases updated. On the other hand, my wife nothing updated. Please, could you explain why my wife still not showed up any update and what your advice I can do is. I am waiting to hear from you.
August 12, 2016 at 14:47
Don’t stress about it. Give it some time.
August 12, 2016 at 05:19

August 12, 2016 at 16:24

August 17, 2016 at 03:13
Following to my explanation above before 4 days ago about my wife update her status. Today, I received letters from USCIS (I-797, Notice of Action) approved our application of permanent residence for me and 2 kids except my wife. However, I am the principal applicant for DV lottery 2016 and my wife and kids accompanied. My question; is it possible approved my application for me and my kids without my wife? And the 2nd question; What should I do to know about my wife application? Please, I am waiting to your advice and suggestion because you are expert and I trust for your opinion.
August 17, 2016 at 04:27
Give USCIS a call…
August 17, 2016 at 06:04
Asked for what?
August 17, 2016 at 14:00
Ask the same things you asked me – ask about her case. They have access to the case and should be able to explain the status.
August 17, 2016 at 18:46
Thanks a lot Simon
August 17, 2016 at 18:49
I called them as your advice and told me my wife case is pending. Do you know why only pending?
August 18, 2016 at 03:25
No. The idea was to call and ask THEM the questions. I cannot access your case – I cannot tell you anything. You have to ask them!
August 19, 2016 at 12:24
As a winner of dv lottery, i do not have a sponsor in d USA. I have several places to live in USA. My father at home is ready to finance and support. Can he do the Affidavit of support for me?
August 19, 2016 at 17:29
No, it must be completed by a US resident. Read the link for other ideas OR get someone in the USA…
August 23, 2016 at 16:10

My sister in law just sent me her 6 pages documents of 2015 taxes that has inscription form 1040A.
She also attached another 11 pages forms of W2 etc, all on taxes. I noticed that the information (figures total) is more than required in poverty form I-864p. She promised to fill I-134 and mail to me.
Please are these documents enough for tender at the interview?
September 2, 2016 at 15:09
Yes – but also a copy of her ID
September 22, 2016 at 19:32
hi MR BRITS .THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELPS . I’M A DV 2017 WINNER. I HAVE A MASTER DEGREE.I WANT TO KNOW THAT DOES IT NECESSARY TO TRANSLATE AND BRING MY UNIVERSITY DEGREE DOCUMENTS TO THE VISA INTERVIEW???(ADDITIONAL TO 12 YEAR SCHOOL DIPLOMA DOCUMENTS)
September 23, 2016 at 00:28
Documents presented should be in the local language of the embassy or in English.
September 27, 2016 at 09:20
Hello Brit in the second letter we are not told of the documents to present during the interview. How do we check on the documents needed as I’m told by someone from the 2016 batch that he was not asked for an affidavit of support. I am a little bit confused. Please help.
September 27, 2016 at 14:38
Did you watch the video???
October 7, 2016 at 22:07
Hi BRIT,I hope every thing with u is OK
My question is if I am winner of DV lottery,I have been making my hens meat on casual work in a INDIAN COMPANY. Am from a third world country(KENYA)and here this INDIAN they only pay sach people in cash and is a little even you can’t save,we call it hand to mouth in AMERICAN they call it CHEQUE to CHEQUE.
I don’t have an account will they ask for it or it is just the letter from my employer for work experience at my interview
October 7, 2016 at 22:27
You may need someone to support you.
November 7, 2016 at 23:23
Hi Brit My housband and I won the DV 2017. Within 7 weeks after we submitted our Ds260 he died and he was the principal applicant. In this case what do I do? Is there any chance for me
November 7, 2016 at 23:45
No, I’m sorry to say that you cannot process your case as you “derived” benefit though his selection.
November 8, 2016 at 04:59
Hi Brit, why it’s that, when the principal applicate die in the process of the dv program and he/she was selected, but not with standing with in members of the family. And everyone played as family, for example married couple. And the dv lottery program is saying that, if anything happens to that principal applicate the program can’t continue. Then what about the rest of the family members like children and wife. Why they can’t continue? and they was all parts of that submission for that year. I will really like to understand this particular issue, Thanks very much.
November 8, 2016 at 05:48
They don’t apply as a family. Each person applies as an individual and lists derivatives. If the selectee dies, it’s over. This is standard US immigration law.
December 22, 2016 at 23:37
I am from LPZ – Bolivia and my interview will be in February 2017.
I think the way to send the documentation and pay the fee is different here, but there isn’t any kind of information for a DV visa in the consulate here.
The PDF document for Additional Embassy or Consulate Instruccions says: “All applicants who are scheduled for an interview must send the required documents at least five (5) business days in advance of the appointment date”
And it sends me to https://ais.usvisa-info.com/ , but with my case number I can’t register my interview.
I am trying to contact to the consulate here, but people there can’t give me any kind of usefull information
Have you know that in some countries the documents have to be send 5 days before through DHL?
I don’t know if my documentation I have to send through DHL or carry it directly to my interview.
What would be your advice?
December 23, 2016 at 00:20
Register ion the usvisa-info site – it’s a courier service. You don’t need an appointment through that service, just an account.
Contact the embassy by email. Ask them if they want documents sent in advance. Do what they say. If they don’t say anything, take the printed email to the interview.
January 1, 2017 at 04:18
Why would a DV winner.need an affidavit of Support? I know winners from Nairobi who were never asked for it. They ask only of where you are going to stay. Has anyone from Nairobi been asked for a sponsor?
January 1, 2017 at 15:27
Yes, it has happened, although typically they satisfy the requirement by establishing the relationship to the host.
January 2, 2017 at 17:37
Hi, I have to have been selected further processing for 2017. The problem I am having now when I was in secondary school I used my surname and first name which is on my secondary school certificate with my picture. But when I travelled to the UK for tertiary I included my middle name on my application forms to tally with my passport. Now I am due to go for interview my secondary school certificate has the 2 names with my picture without my middle name what can I do. The winning applicant name has all the 3 names
January 2, 2017 at 18:30
There is nothing to “do”. The education documents just need to be shown as yours.
January 4, 2017 at 18:59
I hear the Embassy doesn’t accept affidavit any more
January 4, 2017 at 19:09
Which embassy? Which type of affidavit?
January 4, 2017 at 19:47
American Embassy in Ghana. To swear an affidavit to include a middle name for the secondary school certificate
January 4, 2017 at 21:05
OK that would not be a surprise. An affidavit in Ghana (where fraud levels are high) is pretty much worthless. The interview process itself is just as convincing (and legally powerful).
January 3, 2017 at 19:10
Hi, I have been selected and my interview date is in February 2017. Please I have all my document ready except a sponsor. My question is can this affect my chance as I don’t have a sponsor (petitioner).
January 3, 2017 at 20:09
My recommendation is always to put some preparation into showing how you will not become a public charge. That could be by staying with a family member, having significant savings or having an I-134 (sponsor). If you choose to have NONE of that, you are increasing your risk. That is up to you.
January 3, 2017 at 21:17
Please is it late to look for a sponsor now as my interview is in February.
January 3, 2017 at 21:34
Of course it is not too late. You may be asked about a sponsor at the interview. You don’t have to provide details prior to the interview.
January 4, 2017 at 03:07
Thanks a lot you are a God sent.
January 4, 2017 at 04:11
I think, till I have my been to the interview this page is where I will be sleeping.
I have read your “article” on “All about public charge, affidavit of support, I-134” (There are several African countries where the “host” system serves to satisfy the requirements.). Now i have somebody in US who will be hosting me and my family if I should sail thru with the interview (I have indicated this host on the DS-260). Please do I still need him to send an “affidavit of support”. If YES and the host is not ready to send me his “affidavit of support”, can I fall on another relative who is ever ready to assist me with that (“affidavit of support”). Please tell how to go about it.
January 4, 2017 at 06:09
Whether they accept a host or not depends on which embassy. They will be interested in how you know the host. AI-134 is an alternative. Get one if you want to be safer.
