The Supreme Court has upheld the travel ban. They were split 5-4 on “party lines”, meaning Justice Gorsuch (appointed by Trump) delivered him his victory. That is the final verdict and means the terms of the travel ban as currently in place will continue as long as this administration wants, or Congress changes the law. That is a blow to people from the banned countries, and effectively destroys the hopes of thousands of DV selectees in DV2018 and DV2019.
So – if you are affected by the travel ban (and do not have dual citizenship) you should not even interview unless you feel you have some sort of exception that applies to you.

Hi Simon,
I have been selected for DV lottery fiscal year 2018 , I am from Africa but physically presented in USA. My number is 42, not current. And the KCC said there are no more numbers will be released for fiscal year 2018. Is there chance to get a green card or Should I forget about it?
Thank you in advance!
August 8, 2018 at 17:32
Forget it.
August 5, 2018 at 12:37
Dear Brit Simon,
On the DS260, there is a place to update “present employment”
I am doing BUSINESS, so I selected “BUSINESS”.
After that, need to update “Name of the employer or school”
In that I input “Self Employed”
is that enough?
Do I need to mention any business name in that field?
Pls help.
Thank you in advance
August 5, 2018 at 14:40
That is OK.
September 8, 2018 at 16:52
What’s your case number? do not need to know the whole number just the first two digits mine is As11xxx
August 4, 2018 at 13:03
Hi Brit. The information you give here is very helpful. Please can you create a page where people can report cases of rejected documents during the interview.
E,g if original documents are missing just before interview, or are not clear to read, partially destroyed etc.
Thanks
August 4, 2018 at 13:33
There are a few documents you need. Those documents should be genuine and in good condition. What is hard to understand about that?
July 29, 2018 at 08:35
On the same passport issue, I am also DV 2019 winner and my passport expires in November 2019. I submitted DS260 in May using my current passport number and I am intending to renew the passport by end of 2018. Should I unlock DS 260 and enter the new passport details once received or I can carry both to the interview once I am scheduled without making any changes to DS260. My case no AF33xxx and most likely I will be scheduled for interview in June.
July 29, 2018 at 13:38
Unlock and correct – you have plenty of time – and unlocking doesn’t cause delays.
July 29, 2018 at 04:18
Dear Brit Simon,
I am a DV2019 winner.
My Passport expire August 2019.
I plan to renew the passport, before I submit my DS260. So the Passport number & validity period will be differ from my DV Lottery Application (Old passport Number) to DS260 (new passport number).
Will that be a problem?
Thank you in advance.

July 15, 2018 at 16:18
Hi, Mr Saimon
I’m dv winner for the year 2018,i received the second letter for interview, my problem ,when I filled the form
ds260 I forgot to mention that I had been living in other country for eight months this was very early,is’t wise to request unlock my form on the date of interview to correct it or ignore .
Thank you.
July 15, 2018 at 17:18
You cannot correct the DS260 now – so deal with it at the interview.
July 14, 2018 at 07:32
It’s frustrating to know you’re going to be granted an interview just to wake up one morning and realizing that you’re not going to be granted that interview. Where do i start from? I pray the Good Lord select me in dv 2020 .

Hi Brit, hope all is fine at ur end.
It is me again, main applicant, wife, dual national, me and four kids from banned country.
1- Can she apply alone for the visa or she has to include all the f us in her application?
2- If she had to include us in the application, will it be all or non case or she may get a visa while others get rejected?
3- Is it true that even if congress sees a shift in power towards democrats, a possible dismissal of Mr. Trump’s executive order would face a veto from Mr. PResident?
4- OUR CASE # 2019AS4XXX, so do you think it is wiser to submit our DS260by Feb next year so hoping sone modifications of the ban could be more inevitable by the time we get scheduled for the interview?
July 13, 2018 at 14:48
1. She can apply alone.
2. She could be approved.
3. That’s just too hypothetical to spend my time on.
4. Your choice.
July 12, 2018 at 23:38
Greetings Simon,
I was selected for the 2019 DV process, I’m currently living in the US with my spouse as an international student F1 and F2 accordingly, we were born in Venezuela which is one of the ban countries in the list, what would you recommend should I still apply for this process? Or it would be a waste of time due to Venezuela current situation with this administration?
By this time I have gathered all paperwork and still filling DS 260 form.
Thank you in advance for your help and constant support.
Regards and God bless.
JL
July 13, 2018 at 00:15
The ban on Venezuelans only affects a very small number of people.
July 16, 2018 at 03:41
Thank you very much Simon, for your answer I know Ithat it is hard to run your life and at the same time help everybody on your website, thank you again for your time I really appreciate it.
I’ll continue with my DV2019 process.
God bless.

Simon I’m selected 2019 and from band country but I do have Malaysian Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T) – a 10-year renewable pass for highly qualified expatriates to continue residing and working in Malaysia – to provide greater diversity to the nation’s talent pool.
is that enough for me to proceed

Hello brit
I am from one of the effected countries and I had my interview in the second of July, the consular officer took my passport and after two days the embassy emailed and asked me to to complete DS-5535
And said my case is still undergoing administrative processing,I completed the form and sent today but i checked the Ceac website many times since the interview and it shows refused
1-Is it okay to show refused while still undergoing AP
2- Do you think I have a good chance of receiving a waiver as I am Living outside my country for more than 5 years and I am a student and i want to finish my education in the United States
3-Is taking my passport by the consular officer who interviewed me shows approval for my visa As many people from the banned countries rejected at the time of interview
Thank you
July 10, 2018 at 00:37
1. No. It means they have refused your case.
2. No – you were not entitled to a waiver.
3. No.
July 10, 2018 at 08:05
If my case refused, why the embassy still request more info and ask me to complete the form also they said still undergoing AP,if i am refused why they don’t just give my passport back
July 10, 2018 at 11:49
Ask them.

What an idiotic comment. This case is ALREADY refused.
July 9, 2018 at 00:51
Hi Simon, Can any banned countries still have an interview date set and reserved visa for their case even though they will get refused? I mean, do all still receive an email for interview and decide to go to interview or not by themselves? If yes, then it is really less likely to redistribute to visas from AS, right?
July 9, 2018 at 00:57
Please read my recent articles that explain that.
July 8, 2018 at 23:55
Hello brit fore sure they are going to send 2ls this month but is it going to be the last time ever this year
2: is there any way hope for AF 35***?
3: i have asked them via email and they said that my forms have been received and pending further embassy review for the continuation of my visa!! Does that confirm that i m gonna be scheduled ??

hi Simone
I had my interview on 26th of may and I was refused because of travel ban, I had bonafide and the officer took everything he needed and yesterday I had an update and my status changed to AP, does this mean that there is still hope or should i forget about it at all?
July 7, 2018 at 15:17
You should not have wasted your money. Bonafide relationships don’t help now.
July 6, 2018 at 06:57
H Simon
My interview in July will be deferred due to medical test for two extra months. Really disappointed. If the interview is held in mid or late September, is there a chance visa still available for AS region? Thanks!

Hi Simon
I was originally scheduled for interview this month, but now it will be deferred due to additional medical test for two months. Very disappointed indeed! If things go smooth, we might only have a chance for interview in mid or late September.
1. Do you think quota for AS region will still be available by then?
2. In view of short remaining time before 30 Sep, will embassy usually be willing to make the process faster?
Thanks!
July 5, 2018 at 23:39
1. Yes
2. I don’t know.
July 4, 2018 at 21:26
Hello Mr. Brit,
Is KCC going to release more candidates for DV2019 from travel-banned countries given that many would not be able to land in the USA?
This way people already residing in the United States can have a chance!
July 4, 2018 at 21:40
I don’t know.
July 4, 2018 at 16:14
Hi Brit, how travel ban and AF scheduling can influence EU? will some redistribution happen? EU is to a low case number.

Hi Simon,
I’m a DV2019 winner (2019OC6XX) who submitted my DS-260 early June. When would be a reasonable timeframe to expect an interview? Curious to know whether previous years have been a long wait as I’m juggling current job opportunities.
Cheers for the great work you put into this website.

Hi Brit,
Thank you very much Brit for the time and effort you put on for educating thousands of us. I have one question Brit. I am selected for DV2019. I am from military in my home country and is there any bearing on this for my visa processing when I have to divulge my work/occupation details? (I know about separate documentation I have to submit for military personnel – Which I have no problem of) Thanks.

Hi, Simon
I had GC (AOS) interview on 28/06 in San Antonio.Everything was good (in my oppinion). Just general questions.
I am checking my status of my case on USCIS site and it’s still the same like it was 3 month ago (we recieved your case).
Have you heard something about outdate information of their web-site?
From your experience, when will I get mail or emal with “card approved / mails / etc”??
Thank you

Hello Brit,
I am confused by your answer above. Can you please confirm that the final VB for 2018 will be released in mid August? I thought there was left only one more VB, which is supposed to be announced in mid July for scheduling the final interviews to be held in September. The final VB will be online in mid July or mid August?
Thanks so much

June 30, 2018 at 20:45

July 1, 2018 at 01:40
No. But it’s simple. Not meeting requirements, failing to follow instructions, lying.
July 1, 2018 at 07:44
Filling mistakes?
July 1, 2018 at 14:27
Well that would come under failing to follow instructions.

Is there possiblity to change or remove the ban up to next year?
June 30, 2018 at 15:10
I can’t predict what will happen in the next year.
June 30, 2018 at 07:46
Mr. Simon
Another question: my friend who is originated from a banned country has told me that he is planning to acquire another nationality from not-banned country but he is facing some critical problem while he’s to start the process: THE INCONSISTENCY OF THE PLACEs OF BIRTH OF THE TWO countries/PASSPORTS!
For example he had Somali nationality in the first place and his passport shows that he was born in Gaalkacyo ( a city in the middle Somalia). Then now he’s processing to gain Ethiopian passport but the concerned office told him that they will never accept to put in his information a place out of Ethiopia!
And if he put in an Ethiopian place of birth then he’s to contradict his original Somali Passport!
So what tips you have for my friend ?
June 30, 2018 at 15:12
Tips? Stop committing fraud – that’s my top tip.
July 6, 2018 at 08:51
Sucha stories and ideas are one of the reasons of the travel ban. Documents form africa are not credible because of fraud.
July 6, 2018 at 14:14
Well the ban is because of racism/bigotry, but yes, I agree with the concern of record keeping standards.
June 30, 2018 at 03:35
