There is a lot of speculation about the tweet Trump posted yesterday, but right now that is all it is – just a tweet. We need to wait for the executive order to understand what impacts there could be. But it is very likely to be challenged, since he is clearly trying to distract from the awful handling of the pandemic crisis by his administration.
So – watch the video for a few of my thoughts – but please remember it is a tweet, not a law…

Hi,Mr Brit! I’ve a 130 petition for my spouse ,it was approved on September 2019 and I just submit my ds260 and document! So is there any chance to get scheduled for interview sooner!?

I only answer DV DV related questions.

Hi Brit, I wish you are well
Here in Albania, some of people who had interviewed in March-April for the lottery have started registering a date interview for July and August and another part cannot register a date is this normal? Can we register a date interview for ourselves without receiving an email from the embassy with date of the interview?
April 24, 2020 at 04:28
Brit
I Wish you still have some time for Sofia.
I have Sofia too, my youngest (confined now for 38 days with her siblings.)
Keep well, and helping so many.
A so great job !

We are all at home, and although I am very busy, there are many opportunities to see each other throughout the day.

What Mr. Trump Wants to do to us at this time? Schools, conferences, and visitations part of this ban?
Thanks in advance

This is for IMMIGRANT applications.
April 24, 2020 at 04:23
Hello Brit
I do not know how or where do you find the energy to answer to all these/those questions.
…
As you give to many, I have put some tiny coins to support this website as you do a huge amount of work to inform, reassure, and educate many many people.
I wished to leave a short message, as you mentioned under “Donate “, but I didn’t see anywhere to write the comment.
No worry!
I have my youngest daughter named Sofia too, as yours. Sounds very nice.
Hopefully she is doing fine under these times of incredible challenges.
Thanks a lot for your deep commitment to really help others.
Best
F.M.

Simon, will KCC process those dv_cases which already become current and need to be schedule interview date for them or those dv_case which Embassy cancelled there interview date.
Or they process it after EO ban (after july)

April 23, 2020 at 06:06
Does this ban stop KCC to process cases and send confirmation emails because if they process remaining cases and make region current hopefully in next bulletin that would mean more hope we would wait only opening of embassies and expiring ban?2.Do you think KCC will start processing cases in may? thnx Brit

Hi Brit, found this source with more details and it seems like the DV is affected by the EO, can you verify this? There’s also sources that say there’s no further details known yet.
Thanks!
April 23, 2020 at 04:44
“Decisions on green card (“immigrant visa”) applications filed from abroad (“consular processing”) will be delayed for at least 60 days.“
“The Diversity Visa program would be effectively terminated.“
Scary lines…;’(
April 23, 2020 at 05:52
That’s a really dumb assumption.
April 23, 2020 at 05:39
That article is obviously written by someone who did not read the Executive Order properly. It is only a “suspension and limitation on ENTRY” into the US. So the processing of DV2020 seems like it will continue as normal (subject to embassy reopening). However the 6 months you have to enter after receiving the visa will it seems be valid after the 60 day suspension. Especially as Doctors, Nurses and Healthcare professionals are exempt they can’t stop DV lottery processing as probably many lottery winners fall into that category.

Hi Brit, I was looking at the news at http://www.whitehouse.gov. (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/president-donald-j-trump-honoring-commitment-protect-american-workers-temporarily-pausing-immigration/).
According to it, “President Trump is suspending new immigrant visas to put American communities and workers first as we move toward safely reopening the economy.”.
Does it mean that if I already have the DV1 visa on my passport, I am not affected? Is there a way to read the fine print of the EO?
April 23, 2020 at 00:46
Sorry, found it https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspending-entry-immigrants-present-risk-u-s-labor-market-economic-recovery-following-covid-19-outbreak/
April 23, 2020 at 00:49
According to the EO,
“Sec. 2. Scope of Suspension and Limitation on Entry. (a) The suspension and limitation on entry pursuant to section 1 of this proclamation shall apply only to aliens who:
(i) are outside the United States on the effective date of this proclamation;
(ii) do not have an immigrant visa that is valid on the effective date of this proclamation; and
(iii) do not have an official travel document other than a visa (such as a transportation letter, an appropriate boarding foil, or an advance parole document) that is valid on the effective date of this proclamation or issued on any date thereafter that permits him or her to travel to the United States and seek entry or admission.”
I already have a DV visa, but havent traveled to the USA yet. So this means I am not affected right?
Really appreciate your advice on this. 🙂
April 23, 2020 at 05:47

Hi Simon, Never imagined that the tweet will turn into an EO so quickly! ? Btw I had my stamped visa on my passport but I didn’t pay the immigration fees yet as Covid was ahead of us and sheltered me in my place. Do you think it will make any difference if I pay the 220$ fees as soon as possible?
Thanks for your guidance and devoted time through this long journey. Stay safe
April 23, 2020 at 05:32
You are not affected then.

April 23, 2020 at 00:02
Hi Brit Simon,
Firstly, thank you for all that you do. I have been following along for a while but this is my first comment/ query. I have made every attempt to search your site and applicable government sites so I truly apologise if any of this is repeated; it is not for lack of searching I assure you.
In this video, you mentioned that if your visa expires in May (which funnily enough ours does), you would be better off trying to renew as close to September as possible so you have 6months to enter (medical expiry wise). I may have misunderstood, but a couple of questions on that:
1. My understanding is that we absolutely must enter by Sept 30th so regardless of renewing now or in September, we will need to enter by Sept 30th, have I misunderstood this?
2.Being that there is now more concern that they won’t get through the numbers for dv2020 due to delays, if I wanted to request a visa renewal in a couple of months, will we be at the end of the queue and therefore unlikely to be granted a renewal or do we get ahead of dv2020 numbers that are yet to be called up?
I do fully understand that the “immigration ban” is not yet law and if that ban comes in and is still present by September 30th, or the hault on visa services is still in place, then no one will be getting in but I guess I’m asking more around the order of who gets priority once visa services are reopened.
We are still weighing up flying in from Australia on the 8th of May as we had scheduled to activate, come back and relocate later (within the 12months that we are allowed to be out of the country). Our preference would absolutely be to activate closer to September but at this stage, we don’t know:
a) how likely we are to be able to obtain a renewal given the above concerns and based on the fact that they could take the stance that we could technically have entered at our originally scheduled date and therefore adhering to the expiry date was in our control and
b) if we will even be let in if we fly May 8th. We can only find places to request permission from our country of Origin; Australia. We can not find any thing clear in writing or any such online form to request entry to the US under the existing covid-19 related travel restrictions- (not talking about the immigrant ban in this scenario, more about travel restrictions of who they will let in considering we are not yet officially permanent residents).
I apologise for the length of this query. It has just been so hard to find the clear info we need to be able to make this decision so any clarification or links to official rulings would be greatly appreciated as we have been going in circles for over a week now.
Thanks very much in advance,
Leah.
April 23, 2020 at 05:36
1. Yes you misunderstood. People will be issued DV2020 visas up until September 30th. Those visas will be valid for 6 months after the medical, so some will enter the USA in 2021.
2. I don’t know for certain how that will work.
Given the uncertainties, a quick activation trip in May would probably be the safest idea. You’ll need to look into whether that is possible or not in your country yourself.
April 22, 2020 at 23:58
So it seems yesterday was a better day than today ,everyday becomes worse every single day boom another bad cruel news it doesnt give you time to get used with a bad news it fills you with renewed crushed hopes and another slap on the face , what the fuck is this life about man ,no light for us at the end of tunnel ,every day that passes its darker and darker ,it is unbelievable how many catastrophic things happened to us in such short time ,you just cant believe your eyes how much damage is being done to us every day ,sometimes I wish things to remain this bad not to become worse and worse every day ,.We had enough, this years lottery is a curse that destroyed our life and hopes.
April 23, 2020 at 05:31
I’m sorry you are experiencing this. But some will make it this year – not enough, but some.

April 22, 2020 at 23:19
Will it really affect DV lottery winners?
..”Rounding out the other large groups of people who come to the U.S. each year but apparently would not be affected are the 10,000 immigrants who arrive each year on visas for people who have invested between $900,000 and $1.8 million in a U.S. business, and another 50,000 people who come to the U.S. through a diversity lottery program for immigrants from countries who don’t send many immigrants to the U.S.
Under a cap set by the Trump administration in 2019, the U.S. is also slated to receive up to 18,000 refugees in 2020.”

April 23, 2020 at 04:55
It’s a tweet.
April 22, 2020 at 23:01
hi,
Do you think KCC/embassies will continue processing documents and interviews od DV2020 winners because they basically are not granting greencards at the end of the interview but 6 months temporary visas?
I have read this today on news
“An administration official familiar with the plans, however, said the order will apply to foreigners seeking employment-based green cards and relatives of green card holders who are not citizens. Americans wishing to bring immediate family will still be able to do so, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity before the plan was announced. About 1 million green cards were granted in the 2019 fiscal year, about half to spouses, children and parents of U.S. citizens.”
April 23, 2020 at 04:55
Let’s wait rather than speculating.
April 22, 2020 at 22:37
Simon even if he signs that order next days, do you think KCC will continue working (after the covid19 situation) and the order wouldnt affect us who are waiting for an interview because we dont take greencards/permanent residency at embassy , we take 6 months visas which in fact are not permanent residency ?
This 6 months visa we take in embassy is not considered permanent residency/greencard, so will it affect us if he signs the order based in what im pointing?
April 23, 2020 at 04:53
The immigrant visa itself does not make you a resident. You have to enter the USA to become a resident.
As for what will happen – let’s wait to know something more.
April 22, 2020 at 20:32
Hello Brit. Can i do my greencard immigration due to the travel ban? (I‘m from germany)
Some people say yes, because of the temporary I-551 in the passport. Some say no because it don‘t have the stamp on it yet. I‘m really confused.
April 23, 2020 at 04:48
The immigrant visa does NOT overcome the ban.
https://britsimonsays.com/extending-an-immigrant-visa-for-unavoidable-reasons/
April 22, 2020 at 17:19
Thank you for this video, it is super helpful.
I just wanted to clarify, I currently have my immigrant visa was supposed to fly to the US a few weeks ago but flights from Aus were cancelled and we now have strict restrictions on leaving the country.
If I was to apply for my visa to be reissued in June when this one expires, I know I have until Sept 30 for it to be processed in Aus but just clarifying that if the medical (and therefore reissued visa) is valid until Dec 1, I would still be able to enter USA for the first time after September provided the temporary immigrant visa is still valid?
Thank you!
April 23, 2020 at 04:44
Yes
April 22, 2020 at 16:06

Dear brit due to immigration ban visa bulletin also stoped for 60 days or it will be published on april?
April 23, 2020 at 04:42
There is no reason to stop the VB.
April 22, 2020 at 14:32
Hi Brit,
With this EO, what will happen to the approved interviewees, who have not received their passports from the embassies?
April 23, 2020 at 04:41
Wait and see.
April 23, 2020 at 17:32
Thanks.
On 22nd April 2020, the CEAC status has been changed from “Administrative Processing” to “Ready” for my approved case. Is there anything to worry? Will I have to face for another interview?
April 23, 2020 at 18:17
I don’t know.
April 22, 2020 at 13:52
1 hour ago Trump posted that TODAY he’s going to sign his EO prohibiting immigration into USA. What does it mean? No VB will be published and no interviews will be held? Or everything will continue working and we just will not be able to travel for 2 months?
April 22, 2020 at 14:37
i have the same question of you.
i think after he publish the green card ban we will see the VB.
we have just to hope that the process will continue and it is a question of border closed.
eu39
April 22, 2020 at 14:53
I don’t think so. This is not a travel ban, is more than that. He wants to reduce the number of immigrants, which he can achieve by eliminating some of us (all remaining unprocessed cases). This is what I think of.
April 23, 2020 at 04:42
This is NOT about DV.
April 23, 2020 at 04:41
Please watch the video.
April 22, 2020 at 12:08
Hello Brit
Will the executive order to suspend immigrants affect those already with visas and have paid $220 for Green Card?
Your thoughts!
April 22, 2020 at 13:38
I am in the same boat ( with visa and about to travel). Waiting for the EO since I dont want to head there with my family and find out that I cant enter the country. Hope this thing gets sorted out soon.
April 22, 2020 at 13:39
I think the 220 USD was the immigration fee not the GC fee. Maybe you are in the same situation as us that we paid all the fees and only entering to the US remained.
I don’t think so there is an answer for your (our) question. At least until official statement.
April 23, 2020 at 04:40
Well I answered, based on what we have seen before with similar bans.
April 23, 2020 at 04:39
Most likely not.
April 23, 2020 at 05:10
Hi Brit, thanks for the answer. Could you please tell us what could go wrong? As in if I travel to the US with my DV visa?
April 22, 2020 at 11:19
Hello Brit,
First, I would like to Thank you for the video you shared and i appreciate your concern.
Secondly, I have seen some people posting that the ban will be for 60days. If this is the case, how will it affect DV 2020? Any chance for visas.
April 23, 2020 at 04:38
Please watch the video.
April 22, 2020 at 11:17
DV2020 will be GONE after the EO takes effect.
That will least for about 60 days so I don’t think we will see any VB till then, and can be extended.
Peace !
April 22, 2020 at 10:42
Hi Brit!
When he will sign this executive order , could a court block it ?
I don’t understand how it works and if the court could block it before or after the sign.
Thanks
April 23, 2020 at 04:38
The video addresses that. They can’t block an EO before it’s issued.
April 22, 2020 at 10:35
Hey BrirSimon… thanks for helping out as always. I have few questions, if you could help:
*1)*
If embassies open in say July but (worst case scenario) Trump presses the-immigrants-steal-job mantra and extends the ban beyond September of 2020 (assuming it is uncontested) won’t the old visa be renewed too… will that mean those who had already been issued visa, paid immigration fee and all but had their tickets cancelled by airlines in the last minute are not entitled to renewal of visa ? So far I assume the EO (if signed) halts the issue of NEW VISA but I want to know your opinion on impact of this EO on extension of issued but unused visas.
*2)*
How do you expect the interviews to be? The Public Charge Policy had a huge change in February and some new methods (like the questionnaire) were introduced. Now it is obvious that many people lost the job and there is a possibility of crisis in US economy… will the interview be done considering these factors and made more rigid? or will it be like it was before February?
*3)*
Even though airport opens say 1-2 days before my visa expiration date and I chose not to travel then and go for visa renewal in the month of September… will the interviewer find it common or will it be considered as my negligence ? (it depends but what is your opinion in general) Also what if it expires when the pandemic and travel restriction is going and I go to renew in the September, won’t it be too late ?
Thank you BritSimon. Stay safe. Take care. I hope the pandemic gets over soon and US too handles and overcome the situation.
April 23, 2020 at 04:37
1.THe EO probably won’t apply to immigrant visas already issued.
2. I don’t know.
3. I can’t predict what will happen in that case.
You are asking me to predict the unpredictable.
April 22, 2020 at 09:59
Hi Brit, sorry if this has already been answered, I’ve watched the latest videos but am still a bit confused: I’m a DV2020 winner, already have the visa attached to my passport, already have the plain tickets bought for June, and my visa expires in mid July. You’ve previously said that if we ask for a visa extension/renewal, we might get it but it can only last until September 30 (end of fiscal year). But it this latest video you mentioned not to rush with asking for an extension and that we wait until the economy gets better, perhaps in early 2021.
Terribly sorry if I’m missing something here – but:
1. Am I correct in assuming that (as it is right now) – I can only extend my visa until September 30, 2020? And that the law would need to be changed for that to be extended and that’s unlikely to happen at this point?
2. Supposing this EO goes through and it only lasts the initial 60 days and is not extended (i.e. would end June 22), would you agree it would be the best approach for me to enter the US in July/August or early September?
Thank you!
April 23, 2020 at 01:32
1. You are mixing things up. A visa can be extended within the fiscal year – i.e. before September 30. But the validity can be several months after that.
2. No. You need to also consider the economy of the USA – and whether it will be recovered by then.
April 22, 2020 at 09:47
hi
if the new immigration ban takes effect, does it affect who already has a dv green card since 2 years but am out of USA now. can I get back? or will they refuse entry to me? thank you
April 22, 2020 at 10:23
the ban cannot affect you if you are already a green card holder, but I heard on aljeezira that it will affect people who seek permanent residence status and some work visas, but not all work visas
April 23, 2020 at 01:29
No affect to existing LPRs
April 23, 2020 at 09:04
Thank you what a relief .
April 22, 2020 at 09:18
So I guess all of this nightmare will be over at the very least by the end of June. Is there any possibility that the VB might go current in Aug/Sep? Since there‘s not many cases left (EU) which would have to be proceed with effort.
Case: EU49xxx
April 23, 2020 at 01:28
None of us can speculate about that with accuracy.
April 22, 2020 at 05:36
If by this new executive order Visa Expires in May, will this be counted as unavoidable-reasons or will it just expire…and visa be cancelled? also what will happen to those successful interviewees who havenot received their passport from embassies.? also I want to appreciate you for giving valuable videos for people like me..Thank you
April 22, 2020 at 05:51
Well at this point it would be best to say what if released in the EO…
April 22, 2020 at 06:27
So we can say EO is unavoidable-reasons?
April 23, 2020 at 01:27
Well it is likely that any ban would NOT include people who already have an immigrant visa.
April 22, 2020 at 04:55
Hi BritSimon, you were previously saying that Sept 30 deadline is governed by law and cannot change. In this new circumstance of EO, can this deadline be pushed as well?
April 22, 2020 at 05:01
No. An executive order is not a law.
April 22, 2020 at 04:52
I dont think you should answer for that guy because this blog is realated about dv lottery now.we are join because of this?Ignore them.
April 22, 2020 at 04:22
Hi Brit,
I am dv2020 winner and already received my visa which expires on July 3 and as I understood from your previous blogs and videos, DV2020 cases should be settled by Sept 2020 same FY.
Now, with reference to your this latest video does it mean that i can still renew my visa probably apply for renewal on Aug and get visa extension for another 6 months (max) that would allow me visit USA in 2021 ! correct me if am i wrong.
can i say that visa process should be completed within sept 30 and extension can go beyond that in special circumstances like Covid19
April 22, 2020 at 04:27
https://britsimonsays.com/extending-an-immigrant-visa-for-unavoidable-reasons/
April 22, 2020 at 06:00
So it means that renewal process should be completed before sept 30 but visa can have validity beyond sept 30 !
In my case, what would you suggest? As visa expires in early july should i proceed to apply for renewal mid Aug ??
April 23, 2020 at 01:25
@n2020 – you can decide the best timing. Just don’t leave it too late.
April 22, 2020 at 15:38
Hi Brit hope u safe we’ll let me be straight: my DV interview in Liberia was on the 5 of January i was put on AP after with no docs request after 3 months.on 5 March 2020 the embassy sent me an email asking me that they were ready to move forward with my case, so I should submit a passport valid for more than 6 months. After setting an appointment which was scheduled on April 14. On thé the 25 thy resent me an email telling me all visa appointment were canceled and told me they will contact me once they resume . but I’m a bit worry due to this 60 day ban , do u think when the embassy start operating after the travel ban we will be first served because we had mad appointment already ?
April 23, 2020 at 04:43
I don’t know that you will be the “first served”.

It’s not just a random tweet – he will try and implement it – but it’s clearly designed to distract – not help.

“Awful handling of pandemic crisis by Trump administration”
Really, is that a personal opinion, fake news agenda or a fact?
If you have facts, please lay it out, we’d love to hear, or is this blog some kind of a tool to manipulate vulnerable newcoming immigrants’ political views?
What you’re doing about this DV lottery program is greatly admired by people like us and your personal political views should not be used as a tool to manipulate people’s perception about this great country and it’s duly elected president unless you’re morally indifferent and have a financial interest supported by some democRATS.

Well firstly – let me make this clear. This is my blog – and I even called it BritSimonSays – not KemalSays. So – I will voice my opinions any time I want – and I don’t need or seek your approval. Clear?
Now – just in case you have an ounce of intelligence and an ability to apply some critical thinking- allow me to educate you.
1. The fact that pandemics were a possibility was known. Obama established the Global Health Security and Biodefense unit, responsible for pandemic preparedness, in 2015. Trump disbanded that team in 2018 – despite being fully briefed and warned about where that would leave us.
2. The administration was warned in early January about the pandemic and failed to act to deal with the problem. The borders were partially closed to Chinese nationals (as other countries did) and then the administration downplayed the “hoax” pandemic throughout all of February and early March. Trump even held rallies when a deadly pandemic was spreading!
3. Mixed messaging by the administration and republicans served to confuse people about the seriousness, to the extent that there are STILL some morons who think the virus itself doesn’t exist or that it is similar to seasonal flu.
4. The government failed to properly used it’s available tools such as the DPA. Those laws would have allowed the Federal government to control the procurement and supplchain of critical PPE needed by the medical teams. Doctors and nurses have died through the lack of that PPE.
5. The lack of testing is why we are all sitting at home. Other countries (such as S Korea for example) managed to implement faster more complete testing early on – and that was a great advantage to them. Again, the DPA could have been used, and central control would have been better but Trump flip flopped about whether he was in charge or whether the states were. It’s APRIL and we still don’t have anywhere near enough testing!
You can’t argue ANY of these points. They are facts, and they are well understood. Really – only a complete fool would buy the BS being said by Trump and Co on this – and as we know Trump’s base (about 35% of the population) is under educated (comment based in data, not opinion) and frankly not able to figure out what they are being told is nonsense. If you want to believe the nonsense that is your choice – but please don’t pretend these things are incorrect simply because Trump and Foxnews said so….
And don’t do that smartarse “democRAT” thing. If you have a logical argument – make it – but don’t be a Trump brainwashed idiot.

I doubt if the guy who sent that message lives in America because if he did he would have known exactly how Trump downplayed the threat of the virus and politicized it when it was highly unnecessary to do so
Brits you are doing a great job and there are thousands who admire what you do and appreciate your support
I am a beneficiary of your intelligence and benevolence and please do not be discouraged by people like that guy
April 22, 2020 at 04:41
Oh don’t worry – I am not discouraged by people like that. I’m not at all bothered by fools.
April 22, 2020 at 04:56
That is good to know
God bless you Brits

Yes, Trump did awful job on preventing and stopping pandemics. At two Asian country which are closed to US does great job on prevent or stop pandemics very well, Taiwan prevents it very well and Korea stops it by large amount of test. Even John Hopkins U predicted this Jan that Taiwan would be the 2nd worst country given it is so closed to 1st worst country, China. So, US gov absolutely known it and saw these two country did since Jan but they blow the opportunity and willing to risk people’s life not to take active solution and investigation.
Now, Trump try to make people fight against immigrant and said those immigrant steal jobs in US. But how can it ease and help 22m jobless people by stop those EB and DV immigrant, less than 400k in total? 400k/22m is only 1.8%!!!

I’ve been utterly saddened by the EO news this morning, but this response just brought a smile to my face. So well put. Your work and your personal voice, in which this blog differs from institutional outlets, is very appreciated Simon. I might register the KemalSays URL just to make sure it never happens : )
