There has been some recent debate about the actual number of visas available for the DV2020 program (and beyond) due to the NACARA program. Watch the video below for full details!
Charles Oppenheim (the U.S. Department of State (DOS) Chief of the Visa Control and Reporting Division) apparently provides comments and “predictions” most months after the VB is released about trends.
Here is an excerpt from his comments on the recent VB – where he seems to have confirmed the long discussed assumption that NACARA near or at it’s end of life, which is probably why the wording has changed. So it does indeed seem we are at 55k global quota, or very close to that, ALTHOUGH, I actually think that has been the case (less overtly) for a few years anyway (as we have discussed from time to time). But that being said there have been recent years where the brakes were applied and we did NOT hit the 55k, so I am not sure we fully get the inner workings of the way they apply the limits yet.
“Since 1999, 5,000 DV numbers were offset to support the NACARA program. As there are very few remaining NACARA matters, going into 2020, the vast majority of these previously diverted 5,000 numbers will once again be available for usage under the DV program. “

Dear BritSimon!
With due respect I would like to ask few questions please kindly reply.
1. In the case of EU and its particular countries and AF and its particular countries the higher case numbers have got chance to be interviewed ,as previous histotry shows, but in the case of Nepal the lower cases for instance upto 6000/7000 cases only got second letter (but mine is as202013###), What could be the reason and in 2020 is it same or diffetent?
2. NEXT, during filling the form of Ds 260 form my wife wasn’t pregnant(it’s real) if she gives birth before interview and at that time even we didn’t the fill the baby in ds260 form , does the baby get chance to go US with us or can it go after we reach the US? or what is the provision regarding this matter?
September 12, 2019 at 04:09
1. Click the archive link about and read my articles from July.
2. Read the FAQ about adding a newborn to the case.
September 12, 2019 at 00:04
Dear Sir, regards from Venezuela, CN SA36XX… Is that a low number for my region? I already send DS260 on June and required documents 2 days ago, got the confirmation of received and processing. Any thoughts and advice will be much appreciated, thanks
September 12, 2019 at 01:26
No your number is one of the highest. So – you will wait some months, well into next year before interviewing.
September 10, 2019 at 09:08
Dear Brit!
I am one of the selectees dv 2020 from Asia(Nepal). My case number is2020AS13×××. I think it is high case and not posdible to face interview so can I fill the dv for 2021?in case if I am called for interview and during interview does it matter?
September 10, 2019 at 20:03
The case number is not bad, but there is no harm in entering DV2021
September 9, 2019 at 15:16
Hi !!
case number 2020AS13××× , is there possibility of being interviewed? and what does current mean in dv lottery ? can we be called for interview even if case no. is high from “current” process? Please share the ideas.

September 5, 2019 at 03:34
Thank you for your time and reply to all these questions.
My case No AS17*** I have issues with my qualification. I have done my G.C.S.E O/L passing 7 subjects and other diplomas and Higher diploma in software Engineering. The US embassy website in Sri lanka says G.C.E A/L. Now can I apply with my existing qualifications or what if I do my qualifications evaluated by http://www.wes.org ( WES is an education evaluation organisation in US ) and apply with that so that It compares my qualifications with US qualifications ???
Thank you
September 5, 2019 at 03:42
I don’t know whether your Higher diploma will be considered equivilent to A levels. So – if you want you could get an evaluation. You could also contact the embassy and ask their input – but be much more clear about the qualifications you hold.
September 9, 2019 at 17:07
Hi Shakeel,
In sri lanka, they required minimum G.C.E Advanced Level with 3 passes or bachelors degree. Hope this will helps you.

It’s based on your case number…
September 4, 2019 at 13:52
Dear BritSimon,
I am one of the selectees of dv lottery 2020 from Nepal(Asia). I have already submitted Ds 260 form and received confirmation through email but I want to know whether the following case number will be scheduled for interview or not. Or what is the possibility of being interviewed having such case number and is it high case number ?
September 4, 2019 at 22:37
So…. am I supposed to guess the number?
August 20, 2019 at 18:52
I u saying that we should go back on the ds260 page and unlock to spell out the name correctly instead of initial?
Because doing the time of the dv entry she play with Roseline M.Johnson, and her passport carry Roseline M Johnson, and other document the same way,so I we going to Chang those documents by spelling the entire middle name out, instead of initial?
August 20, 2019 at 20:22
You need to decide based on your understanding of her name. To me, it is odd that her passport does not have the full name – but again, that is up to you to decide.
September 4, 2019 at 23:07
Hello Brit, thank you for all the information. 2020 Selectee here and wanted to ask you some questions.Case No:AF21*** From Kenya
1- why sending in the first entry me and my wasn’t married but now we have gotten married, will there be any issue wrong with such steps?
2-My husband is a forigner but on a tourist visa here is it possible to go with me at the U.S embassy for interview on a tourist visa here in Kenya?
3.Its Compursary for my forigner husband to get police good conduct clearance from his Country and Kenya before proceeding for interview with me?
Best regards, hope to get your reapond as soon as possible..God bless you for such a good job Brits.
September 5, 2019 at 01:53
1. No problem.
2. I don’t know.
3. Read the instructions please. He will need a police cert.
August 20, 2019 at 18:26
Am I going to unlock on the ds260 form n correct?
Am I also going to Chang the passport by spelling the full name out 2?
Because doing the time of the dv entry she play with Roseline M Johnson.as I told u
August 20, 2019 at 18:40
The M stands for something – right??? If it does spell it out on the DS260.
August 20, 2019 at 18:59
O Brit,I just saw ur reply, yes the M stand for something which is Myres,if I do so In the ds260,what about the passport that is valid n it carry Roseline M Johnson, should I go n reprent.
August 20, 2019 at 17:41
Hi Brit,
Thank so much for ur best gardline activities in our ever day life.
My wife and I is a winner of the 2020dv despite she is the applicant, but we play together n won.
We have gotten marriage snice in 2018.
Her name was Roseline myres while living with her parents.but we got married and she have to carry my name,
Now here is my question:
Doing the time of our weeding her name was change from Roseline Myres to Roseline M.Johnson, which is on our wedding document, and that is her name from since them,we also fill in the ds260 and all other ligal document carry that name which is passport, police cert and so on as Roseline M.Johnson, except brithcert, and her high school document which carry her father name
My concern is,is there a problem because since we did not spell the Myres out but we abbrivated it by the letters M.
August 20, 2019 at 17:59
Jeez. What a long way to ask about the initial.
The name should be entered in full. Unlock and correct.
August 20, 2019 at 15:59
So, it seems we are aprox. 83.884 selectees for DV2020. Does it make any sense to compare that number with past years? Will it give us any clue about regions or CN’s?
Thanks for the “greencardictionary” 😉
August 20, 2019 at 16:05
We can compare to previous years, although the procedures have changed this year. The new document procedure is now in place for the first full year, AND there has been a new security process that has disqualified many more entries than before (prior to the May announcement). So – the selectee numbers are the same, but the case numbers are very different and the results will be different.
August 19, 2019 at 20:56

August 12, 2019 at 13:23
Dear Britt ….. I was selected DV2020SA37 ** but I have been living in the USA for 10 months and I have a visa extension in process, how should I process my visa, … should I fill out the DS-260? Thank you
August 12, 2019 at 13:36
You can decide whether to process in your home country (CP) or in the USA (AOS). There are pros and cons to both. Your number is quite high, so I would NOT recommend you submit your DS260 yet – first learn about the two methods, timing and so on. Be REALLY sure before you submit the DS260.
Click the link below and study the spreadsheet linked from the first post.

August 12, 2019 at 14:31
Mr. Britt is that I cannot necessarily return to my country from here, I have a visa extension process, ….. if I ask for asylum since I am Venezuelan, asylum could negatively affect the visa lottery process?
August 12, 2019 at 19:18
You cannot adjust status if you have been out of status for even one day. So be very careful. It may be more sensible to wait in a third country – but you should consult an attorney about asylum options. It IS possible to adjust status on a DV case through asylum BUT you will be tight on time since your number is high.
August 15, 2019 at 12:58
Hi Brit! What do you think about the vb for September? Why so low number? Thank you

Hi Simon
We have reached the tendency of sending the required papers to the number 8000 Egypt does this mean that the first publication will be to this number
August 10, 2019 at 15:01
Not necessarily.
August 8, 2019 at 12:32
Greetings Brit and well done for all your efforts and time,
Last year, I played the DV2020 almost in Nov. So my case is 20202GXXX, from Africa region, ghana. I have not won. Qu1: Does a person have more chance playing early? Qu2: Why 2020 (2G) XXX instead of 2020( AF) XXX.
Thanks
August 8, 2019 at 20:20
1. No. Date does not matter.
2. Confirmation codes don’t have regions. Only case numbers (for winners) have regions.
August 7, 2019 at 15:06
Hi Brit, i have been filling out my form for the last three days, now while reviewing my answers it got me disconnected, and once i want to connect back the system keeps telling me “your request cannot be processed at this time”!! Is this something i should worry about or just of the possible momentary bugs??
August 7, 2019 at 16:57
No need to worry.
August 6, 2019 at 22:09
Hi Simon!! I’m 2020SA0022xx I’m Venezuelan but currently living in Chile. I already had the email for submitting documents, my interview will be here in Santiago, do I need to translate my documents?
August 6, 2019 at 23:26
Documents should be in English OR the official language of the country where the interview will be held.
August 17, 2019 at 20:45
Hi i am living in Chile…. May you give me your cellphone number? Add me [email protected]
August 6, 2019 at 11:55
Great informative video and blog, a question I have not come across, if you can assist please. Is there an age cut off for a person to be accepted? In none of the documents could I find a cut off age?
Your response will be most appreciated.
August 6, 2019 at 17:49
No age limit.
August 6, 2019 at 11:39

August 5, 2019 at 23:23
Hi Brit,
I got selected for DV2020 and I am in the living in the US. Do I just need to file the I485 or do I need to fill the DS260 first as well ?
August 6, 2019 at 00:56
AOS cases are processed through the I-485 – however, I do recommend people file the DS260 at some point, purely to make sure KCC open a file and there are no delays later.
August 5, 2019 at 14:27
Dear Britsimon
Highly appreciating what you were doing so far. You are highly with full of sympathy. I would like to ask your help
I am a DV 2020 selectee. My Case number is 2020AF000261xx. Brit, I didn’t submit my DS-260 yet. Is there any problem? I mean, is there a possibility to miss out an interview day because of being late as my CN seem to be current in a nearby time. I have such thought as I guss that KCC will reply to my DS-260 within 60-90 days. Am I wrong? If I am planning to submit on August 15, 2019, what can you say? Please help
Thank you very much
August 5, 2019 at 19:12
It’s no problem. Even if you became current before your DS260 was processed and documents submitted, you would simply have an interview in the first available later month.
August 5, 2019 at 20:47
Hi Brit. ..just a little concern about those with low case numbers yet have not been asked to submit docs meanwhile others of even higher ranges have been asked to. Could it be because they filled the ds260 earlier without including social media account coz if that could be the case then maybe one may have to unlock solely for that. Please permit me express this though. Thank you for your reply
August 6, 2019 at 00:48
Why are you concerned? It’s normal.
August 5, 2019 at 12:59
Hi Brit,
Does KCC consider the previous entry details when checking the DS260?
Eg: Do they consider the DV 2017 entry details when checking the DV 2020 , DS-260 form ?
Thanks
August 5, 2019 at 19:11
The could do that, yes.
August 5, 2019 at 08:14
Please, I’m David Owusu Baffour from Ghana. I was a selectee for Dv Lottery 2018 with case number 2018AF18294. I attended the interview on 4th April, 2018. The Consular during the interview told me i qualify but they will have to verify my Professional certificate at the Nursing and Midwifery Council Accra, Ghana. He collected six of my original documents including my passport, I asked him when the results could be ready and he said” latest by August”.I waited until July, 2019, I didn’t hear from the embassy. I mailed them, no reply. I called them via the customer care line uncountable, always their response is that” they don’t know much about the visa issuance especially the Immigrant visa, and that I should tell them the problem at hand so that they escalate it the highest authority, for which I did. I waited for feedback but never heard from them until the programme ended on 28th September, 2019. I went there myself times with a document that was presented to me after the interview by the consular” temporarily refusal”. I never heard from them whiles my original documents, ie nursing certificate
Birth certificate
Course certificate
High school certificate
High school summary of results
Passport
were in their custody. I didn’t know what to do unti something prompted me to book appointment as if I want to visit US. I got the opportunity to talk to a consular but told me he is new to the case, hence, I should give him some few days. I left and came back home waiting for the feedback. This took 40 days but didn’t here from them, so I booked another appointment. This time, 10 days after booking the appointment, they called me only to go to DHL to pick up my documents without a visa. I think this is a total cheat by the consular. Please I need your comments on this. Because they kept my passport and other original documents in their custody for almost one and a half years without telling me anything, and even after all these , no reason was given as to why they didn’t give me the visa. Please my contact is +233244430629/ +233205002227
August 5, 2019 at 17:12
I’m not sure what you want me to say. I don’t know why your case was held on AP, but it is a matter of law that there was NO POSSIBLE WAY to have approved your case after September 30th, 2018. So I don’t know why you waited so long to ask for your documents. I’m sorry that happened to you, but there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. It is best to move on.
August 5, 2019 at 05:14
Hi Simon,
My DV code or number provided it doesn’t even work or not being recognized by the system ???
August 5, 2019 at 16:42
With such a vague post, I cannot help.
August 4, 2019 at 23:25
How confidence should we be that there is chance enough even for pple with very high number in AS region? i understood that there is a bigger chance that would be there a second drw and the case will be going to be current but still i am not convinced if they are going to issue visas for all pple received the letter.
August 4, 2019 at 23:50
Well wait and see then. This is a long process. A lot could happen. Be patient and in time we will know more.
August 5, 2019 at 12:22

August 4, 2019 at 22:29

August 4, 2019 at 17:40
Thanks for this opportunity .Iam marriage and have four kids Iam jobless is time for me . thanks.0548476568
August 4, 2019 at 17:17
From when the second letter will be issue for edv 2020
August 4, 2019 at 17:25
Oh Man. How many times have you asked this?
One last time. DV2020 interviews will start in October. 2NLs for October interviews will be sent in mid to late August. YOUR case will NOT be in October because your case number (nearly 6000, Nepal) will be delayed for a few months. You can read the visa bulletin as the year progresses to see when your number will be ready.
Now please pay me the respect to read all the information I provide and apply some logical thinking. Thanks.
August 4, 2019 at 17:45

Clear enough, thank you
August 4, 2019 at 14:37
