The “May” bulletin has been released. It includes details of case numbers that are current for June interviews. There are three months remaining after this bulletin to be scheduled.
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. I know I am going to get a lot of people who will ask me this exact question – so let me say that again. 2NLs will be sent in about one or two weeks time – that means the latter part of the month. The schedule is that VBs are published between the 8th and the 15th of each month, and 2NLs go out from the 15th to the end of the month (most typically around the 20th to 24th). This is the same every month, so there is no need to ask me.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.

Dear Brit.
Can you please give me some advice regarding the following questions:
1.- Once I get my DV approved in the consular interview, should my derivatives and I do the first entrance to USA together? or can we do it by separate? this is because after the interview I´m traveling to Asia and I (principal applicant) will need to expend one night in Miami during my trip…what do you recommend in this case?
2.- Once we get to the USA, how is the process to request the green card and the social security card? will they send these docs by mail to the address previously indicated? or will they do a personal delivery?
3.- In case all the docs related to green card will be delivered in person, can my wife (with a written authorization) receive my documents?
Thanks in advance for your kindly support.
July 7, 2018 at 19:40
1. You can enter the USA and activate before them – they must enter with you or AFTER you.
2. The GC is sent automatically. The SSN might be sent automatically – depending on what option you selted about that in your DS260.
3. Read this: https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-begin-using-more-secure-mail-delivery-service
July 7, 2018 at 23:15
With regard to the 2nd question, in the section of the DS-260 form related to the SSN Information, this was my answer
“Do you want the Social Security Administration to issue a Social Security number and a card? YES”
Will they send my SSN automatically??
July 7, 2018 at 23:17
They should. Sometimes it doesn’t work as it should (i.e. the card doesn’t arrive after 2 to 3 weeks), and in those cases you have to go to the ssa office.
July 5, 2018 at 06:02
Dear Mr simon.
My case number is 2018AF00040209.
I have not receive my appointment letter yet.
Since, I summited my Ds260 form in September 11, 2018. I want to know when my letter will come.
July 5, 2018 at 14:16
I don’t know. Wait and see.
June 15, 2018 at 14:35
Dear Juan, thanks for your kindly support.
But, I still cannot get the idea, and why is related this situation with the criminal records?
Also, I would like to ask if during the interview can I modify the UU.EE address for a new one
Thanks in advance for your prompt response
June 15, 2018 at 14:41
It is NOT the criminal records.
You can change the address at the interview.
June 15, 2018 at 13:37
Hello Britt
My case is number SA13XX and I have my appointment in the embassy scheduled for the first days of July.
I have noticed that the embassy is making changes regarding the period of validity of the provisional visa stamped after the interview , e.g: in some cases the period of validity stamped is 1 month after the interview, and in other cases is 6 month after the interview date.
Can you please clarify this differences in the period of validity of the provisional visas? this becasue I think that is not enough time just 1 month to do the arrangement to move to US.
Looking for your prompt response and thanks in advance for your kindly support.
Best Regards.
June 15, 2018 at 14:15
That is because of the date of the criminal récords.
June 15, 2018 at 14:33
The visa expiry date is *in all cases* 6 months after the medical. So – if people don’t listen to what they are instructed, and book their medical early, then they shorten their available time to move to the USA.
It is NOT to do with police certs.
June 15, 2018 at 15:37
Brit I have a friend than he did his médica exam one month before the interview and he receive his visa this week and expire august 8. So the only thing that has meaning is that his criminal récord was issued 9 august 2017.
The doctor in caracas dont do the examen at lease you show the 2nl
June 15, 2018 at 15:58
It is not based on criminal records.
June 10, 2018 at 14:42
Dear MR BRIT,
I have selected 2019 DV Lottery,My Case Number is AS12XXX. Will I get chance ?
If I get a chanace when will should I apply USCIS?
How to read cut – off number (I have noticed that 2018 cut-off number for June 2018 ASIA is :
ASIA: 7,800
Except:
Nepal 5,900
Is ASIA Cut-OFF number is 7800+5900=13700
or
7800
or
7800 – 5900 =1900
can you help me how to get figure.
June 10, 2018 at 15:06
The current VB has nothing to do with your case. You have to wait around a year.
June 7, 2018 at 15:32
Hello everybody
My case is number SA13XX and I have my appointment in the embassy scheduled for the first days of July.
Dear Britt I´m so concern about my interview because I´m from Venezuela and due to the social-political situation in the country I have not been able to get the passport of one of my new derivative (one daughter born in last march)
So I have the following questions for you:
.- As I understand, if I attend to the interview without the passport of my daughter the case could passed to AP status by the consular officer; and then the officer will ask me to send the missing documentation in a specific date.
In that case, during this period of time (between the interview and the new date to submit the missing docs) the rest of family members passports would be kept in the embassy?
Looking for your prompt response and thanks in advance for your kindly support.
Best Regards.
June 7, 2018 at 15:40
You will need to consider when you are likely to get the passport and plan around that. If you think the passport could take a long time, I would suggest you ask the CO to issue the visas for the rest of the family. If not, and if September 30 passes (or visas run out) your whole family will miss out. If just one child is delayed, that can be solved later (although it might take time).
Other than that – you can discuss this with the CO and arrange things the best way possible.
June 7, 2018 at 15:51
Thanks a lot for your prompt response
June 7, 2018 at 13:39
Hi Brit, I am really sorry if you have answered this before but I don’t know where to look to avoid troubling you:
Cases that show as “Ready” in the CEAC data (more specifically in the xarthisius website with the 2018 FY summary), does this represent cases that have not been scheduled by embassies yet? or do they stay like that even if scheduled and until they change to AP/issued/refused after the interview? Thanks!

Your friend is incorrect.
April 26, 2018 at 03:37
when will albania and ukraine reach the limit? Do you have an estimate?or Are there any countries from the limit(cap) level? Do you think the derivatives will decrease after 20300?

Hi Simon ,hope u r doing great
My case number is AS123XX
Till now i havent filled up DS 260
Will i get VISA and when i should fill up?
Thank u
April 25, 2018 at 16:09
You can safely delay submission of the DS260 until late next month. There is a chance that number will become current.
April 25, 2018 at 15:14
Hi sir, my query is this, after getting the visa, is that compulsory to the main winner( husband ) to travel before the beneficiaries ( wife and child) to do so? Or the beneficiaries can also move to USA before the main winner?Thx
April 25, 2018 at 16:00
The winner must enter WITH or before the beneficiaries.
April 25, 2018 at 12:53
Hello Mr, when current for the continent of Asia in any month of the coming months

AF33XXX is safe, Be patient.
April 23, 2018 at 19:18
There is a famous says that state YOU SHOULD WAIT AND SEE
April 23, 2018 at 17:05
Hi Brit,
Can you explain a bit more what happens when the visa bulletin becomes “current”? I know that you explained in another article that it means all the case numbers are called because they believe they have enough visa left. However, I am wondering how are they processed and what are the chances for higher case number? Are they still processed by first case numbers or does it depends on each embassy?
I am EU33XXX from France so wondering if the fact that I will be taking my interview from the embassy in Paris might help if visa becomes current as not many people are from France.
Thank you,
Eleonore
April 23, 2018 at 18:06
The region will not go current for EU. There are too many selectees. Your number is very much at risk, and it is not helped by being from one country or another.
April 23, 2018 at 19:10
Ok thanks. You are 100% sure it will not go current then?
April 23, 2018 at 19:29
Yes.
April 23, 2018 at 19:32
ok thanks
April 23, 2018 at 16:43

Good morning brit
SA again ?
1.- I just playing with the number and I saw for March a 52% no show, past months were the same but April is 62.4% no show I added issued ap and ready for that fórmula
Do you think that will increase a little bit because of that?
2.- about the pace. I understand what did you say about that but I saw previous years that the pace was bigger than 175 montly for SA.
For example dv2017 in may in SA attended at 232 case number for 530 visas just in one month.
3.- nacara’s visas (5000) can be used for dv2018?
Thanks
April 20, 2018 at 13:58
1. I don’t think so.
2. Case numbers are not interviews. In previous years backlog was a factor.
3. We don’t know – but even if some were used, it would make a very small difference for SA.
April 20, 2018 at 15:23
2.- im not talking about case numbers. May was the first month in current in dv2017. So
may 3 2017 19 visas was issued
May 4 2017 32 visas
May 5 2017 38 visas
May 9 2017 25 visas
May 10 2017 50 visas
In these 5 day of may 2017 gave more visas than any month of dv2018.
That is my doubt with respect at embassy capacity
Visas per embassy in may 2017
Bgn 8
Bgt 8
Bns 7

April 20, 2018 at 15:49
Why are you talking about capacity?? The 175 per month will get us to the quota. That’s it. They don’t want to do everything all in one month, even if they could.
April 20, 2018 at 13:19
@Icky, thank you for replying.
My case number is not current for May or June VB
If they kept the same rate in July VB which is + 2000 rank numbers for Egypt then my interview will never be scheduled 🙁
April 20, 2018 at 14:15
WOULD YOU STOP! Your told me your case number is 18XXX. You were just told there are ***THREE*** VBs left. You aren’t listening to anyone and just whining on about how life is so unfair when actually your case number is fine. Stop your negative BS!
April 20, 2018 at 16:55
@ramy
be patience and your case number is fine
i know man his CN (AF205xx) and worry bit but we he didn’t lose the hope
we hope to increase next month
but really your case number is very safe
so don’t waste your time and mr simon time
sorry mr simon but DV it was a dream for all winner so they are compressed bit
April 20, 2018 at 18:30
Yes, i wrote that on the behalf of someone else but later i said what if my case # is 25,000?
It’s weird if you think that way,
If my case # is fine why i’m complaining?
Are you here to help people or accusing them being rude and mock at them?
Anyway, i’m not whining on anything, i was trying to find any hope in your comments or someone else but it seems that i got to face it and tell my family that i did win the lottery but i will never have an interview because KCC or whoever put the rules are using people like puppets to serve their own needs.
Thank you and i won’t post any negative comments anymore.
April 20, 2018 at 18:36
Yes, I established and pay for this website, spent countless hours learning about DV, and spend hours each day, 7 days a week ALL so that I can mock people and be rude to them.
Sheesh.
I hope you will now stop these silly comments, sit back and “wait and see”.
April 19, 2018 at 06:30
Really we love Mr. Brit as much we love our chance in getting Dv visa ?
April 19, 2018 at 05:26
Hey Brit. Just wanted to thank you for your work on this. My number is over 2,000 in SA so let’s just say it is highly unlikely. Nevertheless, one can only hope. Anyway, thank you again, you have incredible patience to answer some of these questions.
April 19, 2018 at 05:54
Thanks for the kind words.
April 18, 2018 at 18:27
Hi Simon,
Just letting you know our “check for update” e-mail was sent today, so I think the 2NL’s are going out. 🙂
Now, when we log in to check, the 1NL is still visible with no 2NL yet. I believe I remember reading that it can take a few hours to actually show the 2NL, even if the e-mail has been sent, correct?
I figure it’ll show up soon.
April 18, 2018 at 18:37
Yes, exactly right. Some people waited a LONG time for the ESC page to show the letter, but at least the email you have reassures you that it is coming!
April 18, 2018 at 18:41
It’s there now. 🙂 So 2NL’s are DEFINITELY going out. We have an interview bright and early on June 7. Fingers crossed! 🙂
April 19, 2018 at 11:56
What’s your case number
April 18, 2018 at 14:24
ILeftMyHeartInSF, i’m not lashing out at anybody.
I only want to say my point of view peacefully and i believe i have the right to say it whether you liked it or not.
Regarding the lottery, we all had an equal chance to enter the lottery.
We all had an equal chance to win.
To win you need a miracle but for egyptians you need another miracle to be able to go to the interview.
That’s ofcourse inequality and unfair.
By the way regarding June VB, all african selectees up to 28,300 their letter said your GC was not guaranteed too but they will be interviewed unlike egyptians because 10.000 selectees were excluded because they need another miracle.
Again, i’m not upset at Simon and it’s ridiculous if you think i’m.
It’s my point of view and if you don’t like it then just ignore it.
April 18, 2018 at 14:46
For the last time. EVERYONE is in the same boat. There are rules. There are quotas. Plenty of people will miss out because of quotas, Some Egyptians will not be invited because already enough Egyptians have been invited to reach the MAXIMUM visas that a country can receive. So Egyptians get more visas than almost every other country and you say Egyptians are treated badly. Think about it.
April 18, 2018 at 14:50
Oh and let me also add, if Cairo had the same refusal rate as other countries, (say France, Germany, South Africa), there would be no limit hit. Cairo is incredibly lenient – approves cases more easily than any other country apart from Nepal, and that creates the problem. But no doubt you will ignore that fact too.
April 19, 2018 at 08:46
for Cairo, according to Ceac sheet for 2018 , we have up to now
1675 visa issued
43 visa Refused
422 visa Ready
61 visa AP
So the Total = 2201 visa – 43 Refused = 2158
So we still have 3 VB with approx. 1350 visa will be issued
So dear ramy please be patience , believe me you will have chance , be optimistic.
Thanks Simon & please accept the feeling of the people here (they are compressed) & waiting the dreams.
April 19, 2018 at 14:10
Their feelings don’t excuse rudeness.
April 20, 2018 at 13:06
Hi Simon,
Isn’t that your own words?
“Feel free to disagree with me and form your own opinion.”
That what i did, i disagree with you thinking that it’s unfair to apply for the lottery in the past 10 years then after i win my case # is excluded just because i’m an egyptian.
If enough egyptians were invited to reach the maximum visas that a country can receive then they should exclude Egypt from entering the lottery starting from next year.
What i see is more than 10.000 lottery rank numbers will not go to the interview which is a very huge gap if compared with Ethiopia and Nepal.
That’s my own opinion … is that rudeness?
“but please do show some sensitivity for the many people who want and deserve this opportunity just as much as you do – and perhaps are behind you in the line.”
I already prepared and translated all the needed documents last month, now i realize that i wasted my time for nothing.
I told my family that i won the lottery and they were so happy … now what i should tell them?
I haven’t seen any sensitivty in your words and now you accuse me that i was rude … thank you.
April 20, 2018 at 13:16
Oh my.
To keep arguing with me in MY blog, ignoring my polite explanation, over and over again, causing me to waste my time. That’s rude.
I get that you are upset. I *OBVIOUSLY* understand that, and how important this is to you, and everyone else that gets this chance. We don’t know where the numbers will end – a lot of this is you freaking out for perhaps no reason. So – CALM DOWN, stop wasting my time and if you have another opinion you are entitled to it, but no where did I say “Feel free to disagree with me and form your own opinion, and keep going on with emotional and incorrect statements even when I have carefully explained why you are incorrect”. So – ENOUGH now.
April 20, 2018 at 12:27
Hi heem,
Simon said July VB will be the last, how come you said that there are 3 VB left?
April 20, 2018 at 13:03
Thera are three VB left. In May for July interviews, in June for August interviews and in July for Semptember interviews.
April 20, 2018 at 13:20

Do you even know the concept of the DV Lottery? Do you know why it was created and how it works? Do you realize i is not due but given based on a particular set of attributes? There is nothing unfair to Egyptians. If anything, it’s the other way around so do your research instead of throwing a cyber tantrum. Why not addressing your concern to the people implementing the rules? I mean what is Simon supposed to do anyway?! There are and will ALWAYS be more selected than visa issued… common sense and logic. A lot have received their 2NL yet won’t have an interview. Pretty sure it is mentioned both on 1NL 2NL this blog and every other site that is DV lottery related so why the surprise? We can’t all win… it’s a damn lottery
I understand your point of view but your delivery was poor

@ramy: I just have one question for you. Was it Simon or was it YOU who told your family you won when all you have is 1NL?! Not even the 2NL! So can you stop already your pity party or your frustration fest? It’s called DV Lottery so until you’re at the POE, nothing is safe and you haven’t won anything… I mean, what are the odds? Your situation is worse than millions yet you probably are the most virulent about it. We are all in the same boat so ENOUGH ALREADY or log off… there’s a life with OR without a GC…

Awesome!
April 17, 2018 at 23:50
It was just an example.
I have no idea about that.
I just want to know what would you feel.
Obviously you don’t want to answer however i can assure you that you will not think that way if you were in that situation.
Anyway goodluck for everybody that won but unfortunately for thousands of egyptians , ppl from Ethiopia and Nepal it was just an illusion.
April 18, 2018 at 02:09
I don’t think you are paying attention. I *did* answer! I explained that I was ALREADY ruled out of the program because of a similar reason you are complaining about! You at least had the right to enter and every year thousands of your countrymen get this incredible opportunity. There was no illusion here – the rules are published for all to understand, and the 7% limit is made public. A simple glance at historical bulletins would have explained all you needed to know. You were given a letter saying you were selected, but that very letter said your GC was not guaranteed. You have NO RIGHT to complain and say it was an “illusion”. Thousands of people from Egypt, Ethiopia and Nepal get their visas this way!

Ramy… Why lash out at Simon? 1st this is a LOTTERY. aka millions play. Hundreds housands are selected. Tens of thousands get their GC. So you’re not entitled to one. You’re given an opportunity to a great privilege. Do you realize how manydon’t even get to this point?! A selection is not a promise . A lottery is not safe. There rules are clear. You just being upset at a stranger who writes a useful blog to help people .Do you see how ridiculous this looks? Do better. We’re many in your case. Some even worse because they can’t even participate in the draw…
April 17, 2018 at 23:35
Okay, you know this information however all other egyptians that were applying for the past 10-15 years and never won have no idea about that.
They just apply and pray to win then after they win they are excluded?
Let me tell you something.
Suppose you are an English man who lives in NY(not police song of course)
Then you won 10.000.000 lottery, after that they tell you SORRY too many english men won the lottery already we will give you NOTHING.
What will you feel?
April 17, 2018 at 23:40
Do you understand that British people are not allowed to enter the lottery because too many British people already emigrate to the USA? So your hypothetical question is a bit of a joke.
Stop complaining about this. The lottery is a privilege, not a right.
April 18, 2018 at 06:51
This is how I explain the situation to my friends:
– “Hey, you won 1.000.000 $. But you will be able to have it in 1 year.”
11 months later :
– “Finally, it’s cancelled, sorry.”
Worst feeling ever 😐
April 18, 2018 at 09:23
Not even because at no point whatsoever does it say you will get it. Rather it says welcome to the next round, based on your turn and the information provided, You might get your GC. it’s individuals like you who jumped the gun and believed it was a done deal before even getting to the embassy. You did that to yourself, not them. Just like getting the visa in visa passport doesn’t even guarantee residency but the discretion of the CBP officer you will talk to at the POE… THATS WHY IT IS CALLED A LOTTERY PEOPLE
April 18, 2018 at 14:30
That’s odd. Your letter must have been different to everyone elses. Their letter said you have been selected for further processing for a $1M, but that $1M is not guaranteed.
April 17, 2018 at 23:11
Oh,that is inequality because they slow down selectees from Egypt as you already wrote above to be able to select thousands from other african countries.
How many egyptians with issued visas this year?
less than 1000??
April 17, 2018 at 23:23
Egypt has taken the largest chunk of AF region for YEARS, with a high number of selectees and very easy screening by Cairo, so let’s not assume they are hampered through some sort of inequality – please! That is nonsense.
April 17, 2018 at 22:48
Hi,
I have a question regarding Egypt please.
Suppose July VB will be the last for this year and it will be as follows:
AFRICA 30,500
Except:
Egypt: 20,200
Does it mean that anybody from Egypt with CN above 20,200 will never be interviewed?
April 17, 2018 at 22:49
That is what that would mean, yes.
April 17, 2018 at 16:14
Oh Targ you just brought the wait and see to my Email and depressed me again man
