The VB was late again, but I think this was more to do with other categories than DV. And interestingly, the official published date shown of this VB is the eigth – this exact pattern has been the case for three months running – late VB, normal official release date.
Good jump in AF, OC and SA regions. “OK” in EU and AS. KCC switched to sending out documents emails to many cases, so to some extent they have pulled back the speed of the VB in countries like in EU where people respond faster than AF region. OC and SA regions are so “hole dominated” that their continued bigger jumps is completely understandable.
Region | All DV Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed Separately | |
---|---|---|
AFRICA | 19,000 | Except: Egypt 10,000 |
ASIA | 8,200 | Except: Iran 5,100 Nepal 6,500 |
EUROPE | 10,300 | |
NORTH AMERICA (BAHAMAS) | 8 | |
OCEANIA | 1,200 | |
SOUTH AMERICA, and the CARIBBEAN | 1,075 |
This is only the FOURTH VB so there are EIGHT more to go, so no one should be worried about the numbers – everything is going just fine right now. Really.
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. This is the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month, and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs sent in two main batches, some early (around the 15th to 20th) and then some in the later part of the month. I would expect the 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month. The end of the month really means THE END OF THE MONTH. Please don’t waste my time later this month asking about 2NLs. Please. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.

Hi sir, i submitted my documents last month (12/06/19) , it’s for f4 category, when should I expect to get an interview? Rest of the world
January 10, 2020 at 00:07
I only answer DV lottery based questions.
December 27, 2019 at 07:32
Hello sir my interview is scheduled in jan 22…should I show 2019 income tax file or 2018 tax file of sponser in interview?
December 27, 2019 at 09:31
What is your CN number ?
December 27, 2019 at 13:31
As 64**
December 28, 2019 at 20:42
It is unlikely that you will have 2019 documents by then, so you should 2018 1040/W2 and then more recent payslips and of course, photo ID.

Dear Brit,
My wife is a principle applicant from AS and have received the interview date in late January 2020. The medical checkup was conducted on 20 Dec and she is required to do more sputum test due to chest x-ray findings to rule out TB and the physician said there will be spent at least 2 months for the sputum culture.
My questions are:
1. Will she be rescheduled for a new interview date?
2. How to check the new interview appointment date?
3. If the result has no TB, will she be able to have chance for visa approved since the delay of interview date?
4. if the result has TB requiring for 6 month treatment, will she able to ask for a new interview schedule after completion of successful treatment and before the end of DV lottery 2020 fiscal year?
December 23, 2019 at 17:47
1. Typically not. The interview will go ahead as scheduled unless you change it. If you keep the interview you will be on AP until the medical results are available.
2. That would be up to you to check with the embassy.
3. Yes
4. Yes – but only before 30 September 2020.
December 24, 2019 at 00:14
Dear Brit,
In addition to my question 1, the physician from IOM told her that he will send an email about her case to the embassy to reschedule the interview normally within the next two months counting from the original interview date according to the sputum culture duration. He told her that the IOM will hand her a new interview appointment letter from the embassy.
Could you clarify me:
– Should she email the embassy about her case since the embassy will arrange the case for us?
– Is it better to wait for the result of medical test release and have a new interview schedule?
December 24, 2019 at 00:29
Some physicians do that as IOM mentioned. Really they should mind their own business, but they feel the need to interfere. So – in your case IOM will reschedule. You ca decide whether/how to contact the embassy.

December 19, 2019 at 14:47
Hello brit.I’m DV2020 winner. my case number is Af69*** from Egypt. you think I have the chance of interview .if yes when will the interviewed
December 19, 2019 at 20:28
Your number is somewhat risky particularly as you are from Egypt – so all you can do is wait and see what happens.
December 19, 2019 at 20:49
Thank you
December 19, 2019 at 07:07
hi brit simon do you think Africa will be current this year seeing the progress is slow the january number is very low do you think there is a reason for the number being low while the case number for Africa are very high
December 19, 2019 at 19:25
Wait and see.
December 18, 2019 at 20:10
Hello brit.my case number is Af73166.Do you think I have the chance of interview .if yes when will the interview be
December 18, 2019 at 21:12
It is hard to be 100% certain – but if you do get current it will obviously be in the last month or two.
December 18, 2019 at 16:58
Hello Brit
I’m eagerly waiting for The VB for February 2020. Why has it taken too long. Any reason for that Sir?
December 17, 2019 at 15:31
Hello Brit,
I have submitted DS 260 for my self & my wife.
Since Our baby was born on last October, I have requested to unlock our DS 260.
Still I didn’t apply any DS 260 for our baby & for our DS 260.
Document submission mail was received.
When I was applied I was single.
I got married in January 2019.
My baby was born in Oct 2019.
Is it ok, if I submit all DS 260 (including our baby) in end of this month.
Still I didn’t inform to KCC about our new born baby
Please advice
Thanks
Sehan
December 17, 2019 at 17:00
Yes, no problem. Use the add applicant function to create DS260s for your spouse and child.
December 18, 2019 at 14:17
Thank you very much for your advice sir.
December 17, 2019 at 02:44
Dear Sir,
I have submitted required documents to kcc in last wednesday. But still i didn’t received a automated confirmation. Is it normal?
December 17, 2019 at 03:35
It’s normal for 100% of your case.
December 17, 2019 at 02:31
Hi brit
What is your guess in the next visa bulletin
December 17, 2019 at 03:35
It will be published very soon – so surely you can wait…
December 17, 2019 at 02:02
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2020AS6XXX, which is “Current” in December VISA Bulletin. I have submitted DS260 on July 2019 and sent the documents requested by KCC through email in the end of November. Further I have received the email from KCC nothing that our records indicate that you have submitted all required documentation to the KCC in the beginning of December. In that case, when do you think my interview will be scheduled?
December 17, 2019 at 02:13
You might get a 2NL in December for Feb interview, or perhaps a month later.
December 17, 2019 at 02:23
Thank you for quick response. 1) Should I contact KCC for now? 2) Are there any possibility that the interview will be scheduled in January?
December 17, 2019 at 03:34
1. No need. Just wait.,
2. No
December 16, 2019 at 21:26
Hey, my case number is EU35XXX and I know that I’ve to wait, but do you think I have any real chances of interview? To take into account that in this year case numbers are very high in this region. On the other hand, you’ve written that different people need different time to be checked out. I was intern in US Embassy 5 months ago, worked there for 7 months. If like the previous year there will be current do you think that my interview will be scheduled faster? Like, they can have any information about me from Embassy anyways
December 16, 2019 at 21:44
Your number is fine. Patience is all you need. Your internship makes no difference.
December 16, 2019 at 17:40
Hi Brit
Kindly advice, i applied for an e-passport yet i used my old passport for my ds 260 should i attach both when sending the documents?
December 16, 2019 at 20:28
I don’t have experience of an e-passport – so use your own judgement.
December 17, 2019 at 10:50
By e passport i meant the new generation passport since the old ones were being phased out. So i was wondering if it was ok to use just the new one?
December 17, 2019 at 16:52
So only one is valid – so use that!
December 16, 2019 at 06:01
Hi Sir,
Sir, if a case number is like this ” 2020AS26500″ or near to this number so then, When he will be interviewed?
Thank you Sir, ☺
December 16, 2019 at 06:35
Summer 2020.
December 16, 2019 at 03:50
Hi Brit,
I usually go through your all articles about DV. As I understood, current in VB means all the case numbers will be interviewed for that particular region. Am I correct?
Thanks!
December 16, 2019 at 06:33
All numbers “can” be interviewed. Not “will”.
December 15, 2019 at 04:53

December 14, 2019 at 00:10
Hi, thank I do what you told me ( write to KCC) they reply me to send documents. I sent it, I missed one document and write a lettre where am explaining why I don’t have it
They send me the message like “ Thank you for submitting your Diversity Visa documents to the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC). After reviewing your documents, KCC has determined that you have not sent the required documents for review. Please review the required documents listed below and verify that you have submitted all required documents. ” how can I do ? I don’t understand why they send again this massage
December 14, 2019 at 00:49
What is the ocument and what is your explanation of why you don’t have it.
December 14, 2019 at 02:16
Police certificate
Right now am not in my country that why I can not obtain the document
December 14, 2019 at 05:14
Jeez. Do you want help???
WHAT COUNTRY?
December 14, 2019 at 13:41
Am from D.R.Congo, am planning to come back home at the end of this month so What can I do right now ? There refused my explanation ? And must submit that document ?
December 14, 2019 at 15:39
The instructions were clear that you had to send a complete set of documents. There is an alternative procedure on the reciprocity page for DRC and they expected you to have read those instructions. So you should have followed that procedure – BUT you may as well wait now.
December 14, 2019 at 14:00
Hi Ben
Regardless of you being in DRC or not you can get the cashier judiciary (Police clearance).
I did mine a month ago, and am not leaving in DRC currently.
You need to contact peoples (if you have) in Kinshasa and you will get it in less than 10 days.
This is an opportunity for you so don’t waist it, get everything that is asked from you.
Should you need any assistance regarding how I did get mine, Il will be willing to help.
All the best ?
December 14, 2019 at 15:44
Exactly.
December 16, 2019 at 16:09
Hi Simon!
Thank you for your help/assistance.
I have a questions that is bordering me.
My CN is current for January (2020AF17***) however I have not submitted the documents as I am still waiting for my birth certificate, it’s quite a very long process, as I need to get a court document that can help me to apply for the birth certificate. I am not leaving in my country( this even makes it so difficult)
All the other documents for me(except my birth certificate) and for my derivatives are ready.
I have been waiting for the document from the court for 2 months now.
I am hoping that I can have it most probably next month.
1. Should I still wait before I submit until all documents required are ready?
2. Assuming I get my birth certificate in January and submit the documents immediately, will KCC goes back to my case number and schedule and interview for me?
3. If yes to question 2, when(month) can the interview be scheduled?
Thank you ?
December 16, 2019 at 17:06
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. 2 to 3 months after your submission.
December 16, 2019 at 17:21
Thank you Brit!?
December 13, 2019 at 07:33
Hey BritSimon.
AS32XXX
Your initial predictions gave me hope. But recently you mentioned in one of your recent videos that the refusal rate has been low in DV2020.
AS is moving 2.1K per VB. Given that the end of the dv2020 year seems to be around max AS28XXX
Should I still be hopeful?
December 13, 2019 at 22:15
I have not said in ANY of my videos that the refusal rate for DV2020 has been low. I have speculated that it MAY be low.
You cannot calculate the VB progress by simple math based on progress to date. The density will change dramatically, so pace could and will pick up, especially if the travel ban remains in force.
December 13, 2019 at 07:00
Hi Brit. My case number is 2020AF271XX. I already sent my documents on oct 23 2019. When do you think will be my interview?
December 13, 2019 at 07:29
February.
December 14, 2019 at 14:33
Thank You
December 20, 2019 at 20:55
Hello Brit,
I completed DS-260 in june sent documents to KCC on the 11th of October and received ready to interview email on 21st November…my CN is current for January but up to now I haven’t received the 2NL. Please is this normal?
December 20, 2019 at 21:56
Yes.
You will not be interviewed in January – maybe February.
December 12, 2019 at 17:54
Hey Sir Brit, my case number is 2020AF12XXX and i am current in January but i haven’t received 2NL and when am i supposed to do medicals?
Don’t know how to go about it from here… When should i expect 2NL and details on where to do medicals?
December 12, 2019 at 23:34
You will do medicals once you receive a 2NL. You probably were late in providing documents, and that caused a delay.
December 13, 2019 at 01:01
Hi Britsimon,
This website has been fantastic, thank you kindly for your services.
I was wondering if you might be able to shed some light on my current situation, my case number is up in January for Oceania and I have been scheduled for my interview in Sydney this coming January.
When I log into the ESC, I am told to follow the instructions at http://www.dvselectee.state.gov to prepare for my interview – when, however, I click this link it is broken.
I touched base with the consulate in Australia to notify them of this issue and asked if there is a checklist floating around or an alternate link to this website. They have told me when they receive my case from the KCC I will be emailed a checklist. Just wondering if you happen to know how this process works? I thought I was not scheduled with the consulate until KCC had sent off my file? On the ESC 2NL it also advises that KCC have finished processing and all correspondence should be through the Syd. Consulate.
December 13, 2019 at 01:08
Simple google search…

December 12, 2019 at 11:38
Hello Britsimon, Kindly advice, I used three names for the DV entry but most of my documents including my passport bare two names for example For the entry I used John Doe Doe..but for the documents I have John Doe. my question is how can this affect my case processing and visa issuance.?
December 12, 2019 at 23:29
These sorts of mistakes can often be forgiven IF there are no suspicions of deliberate fraud.
December 11, 2019 at 19:01
Hi brit ,how are u? My cn is AF 62***, do u think that i will have a chance to get an interview
December 12, 2019 at 23:08
Probably.
December 11, 2019 at 18:55
Dear Sir,
My case number is 2020AS3XXX. I’ve already sent all the documents and submitted DS-260 a month ago, and after four days I got an email stating that all the required documents have been received successfully. However, still I didn’t get any interview date, and found in the bulletin that my case number has been passed. When would I receive the email notifying my interview?
December 12, 2019 at 23:07
Probably later this month for a February interview.
January 7, 2020 at 09:58
Here is also same problem
