The latest visa bulletin was just published, and as many had hoped there has been some movement in the numbers. Good movement for AF region, but a small increase for EU. Those were the two regions I had expected to move, and I had thought the other regions might not move at all. Surprisingly though, AS has jumped to 15000 and OC and SA have stayed at the same numbers.
So that certainly shows the impact of the travel ban in AS region. So many of the selectees in AS region are impacted by the ban, that high case numbers will probably benefit unless the ban is removed.
EU only increasing by 750 is also a bit of a surprise, I did expect more, but I would again remind everyone that we are only seeing the 4th of 12 visa bulletins for the year. So much can happen over the coming months.

Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, can normally expect their 2NL in the next 2 to 3 weeks from now. This is supposed to be the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month, and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs in daily batches, but we seem to be moving to a more normal procedure where almost all the 2NLs are sent before the end of the month, with just a handful being sent earlier this month. I would normally expect all the interview 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month, but we can see recently they are exceeding that to try and get as many interviews in as possible. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month, and even the first few days of the following month during exceptional times. One quick point, the 2NLs tend to come out in an approximate alphabetical order, based on the city name of the embassy. So, Addis and Accra tend to be early, and an embassy such as Yaounde would be later. As ever, just be patient…
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.

Hi Simon,
I have filled my DS 260 in May and my case number is below 6k in Addis Ababa location. I didn’t receive my 2NL. Are you aware that Addis location started interview for DV 2026 at all?
Thanks!
December 2, 2025 at 13:52
They started as far as I understand but have not reached high numbers yet. Be patient.
December 1, 2025 at 17:20
Hi Simon,
DV2026 Addis Ababa location, my case number is below 6k and didn’t receive my 2NL or interview date. I emailed KCC and sent me a standard email that I will get a notification if my interview scheduled. Given my case number being low, I was expecting an earlier interview. Did interview start at Addis location at all?
Thanks!
December 1, 2025 at 18:24
We don’t have exact data at this time, but the rumor is that very few interviews.
November 30, 2025 at 14:31
Hello,
My case number is 2026EU41XXX. Do you recommend submitting the DS-260 now, or should I wait a few months before submitting it?
Thank you!
November 30, 2025 at 14:50
The main reason to not submit a ds260 is if you are concerned about non immigrant visa refusals in the future. If that is not a concern, then file now.
If it is a concern, the decision is harder, but you will still probably submit later anyway, so you might as well do that earlier rather than later.
November 28, 2025 at 04:39
Hi Simon, thank you for your work! You previously said if you have a very high EU number (>60k) it’s probably not worth applying. Does the high progression in Africa change your mind on this? Is it possible that Africa spaces will be reallocated to Europe and Europe could go current?
November 28, 2025 at 12:23
I have said a number of times that EU could benefit from unused visas from AF and AS region – but it is FAR too soon to be sure about what will happen – we can only wait and see.
November 25, 2025 at 06:31
The 4262 selected from South America, are around 2000 to 2300 cases, include holes?
November 25, 2025 at 07:11
You are confused.
THe 4262 is the people selected. Those people are on real case numbers. Holes are case numbers that are gaps between actual real cases. So if there are 2300 real cases for example, and if those cases go up to 4300, then the 2000 cases are the holes.
November 25, 2025 at 07:29
Very grateful for your explanation. So in the case of South America I have true information that there are cases around 4700, in that situation there would be around 2400 cases that are holes, in short there would be more holes than real cases , would that increase the probability that it becomes current?
November 25, 2025 at 09:25
Well there are still 4262 people. The fact that there are more holes just means the case number for selectees goes to a higher number. That doesn’t change the number of selectees – which is still a lot more people than the quota for SA which is about 1500. So there is risk. We have to wait and see.
November 25, 2025 at 19:22
Would there be a possibility that this quota of 1,500 would increase due to the travel ban?
November 25, 2025 at 19:27
Yes – that is something I have discussed several times in my videos. BUT that is not a “safe” outcome – we have to wait and see.
November 22, 2025 at 01:35
Hello, marriage after winning but before ds260 with 2 days, is that bad? We were engaged before dv lottery in 2024.
November 22, 2025 at 09:48
No, not bad. But do prepare to show evidence that the relationship existed prior to the win.
November 21, 2025 at 02:32
Hello, my case number is 2026AF173XX and I still haven’t received my 2NL even though I submitted my DS-260 in July 2025.
Should I keep waiting?
November 21, 2025 at 09:06
Yes. Do you have any other choice?
November 20, 2025 at 13:08
Hi Simon, is the case number SA36XX for dv 2026 considered high? Do you think I have a chance? Thankss
November 20, 2025 at 13:33
Yes that is quite high. You have to wait and see whether they will make that number current.
November 21, 2025 at 20:17
Would a 42XX case number have possibilities in case SA becomes curren?
November 21, 2025 at 22:13
If SA gets current, yes.
November 20, 2025 at 04:34
Hello, my case number is 2026AF173XX and I still haven’t received my 2NL even though I submitted my DS-260 in July 2025.
Should I keep waiting?”
November 20, 2025 at 08:35
Do you have any alternative?
November 21, 2025 at 02:36
The process depends on the KCC, so there isn’t really an alternative. I just need to wait for my 2NL.
November 19, 2025 at 09:15
What is your expectation for South America? With about 2000 to 2300 real cases of the 4262 selectees between main and derivatives, Do you consider the high probability of being current for the last two visa bulletins of the dv2026 ?
November 19, 2025 at 11:41
It is too soon to be certain – so let’s wait and see….
November 18, 2025 at 11:53
Hello Simon,
I am AS20K what you think? It seems you are very optmistic about Asia going high for DV2026. My concern is do I need to wait until the last visa bulettins for my number or Asia might keep being crazy and jump high and even go current in the next few months?
November 18, 2025 at 15:03
You just need to relax and wait.
November 17, 2025 at 11:27
Any chances for AS22*** to go current?
November 17, 2025 at 11:52
Yep
November 16, 2025 at 09:19
Hi BritSimon, with the way VB for AF has moved, AF47K i can only think March or April is a reality unless they halt the movement. I had a few unlocks to correct socials mainly and add those i had left out. Last unlock was 21 October to add other names used for some spelling variations on o and a level certificates. Based on this, if we are to go current March or April, am i at risk of still being unprocessed coz of that late unlock?
November 16, 2025 at 11:18
No
November 14, 2025 at 18:38
SA29**. Was very optimistic until I saw the cutoff last year at 2,825. Now I’m also nervous at it being stuck at 1,850 so far this year. Thoughts on chances? In an earlier video you mentioned SA possibly going current? DS-260 already submitted, so fingers crossed! Thanks so much for your fantastic analyses!!
November 14, 2025 at 19:55
Relax. Month 4 of 12.
November 14, 2025 at 18:09
The low increase for Europe worries me, I’m assuming a case number just over 35k is looking highly unlikely to be one current at this rate
November 14, 2025 at 19:54
You can’t really guess the final number simply by months 1 to 4.
November 14, 2025 at 16:29
Hi Simon,
2026EU209XX. Same comment as someone’s: What do you advise, shall I submit my DS260 or wait a little bit more? I also see there in Europe case numbers went only from 7750 to 8500, what’s your thoughts?
Thank you!
November 14, 2025 at 16:55
Same answer I gave the other person. Your number is not bad.
November 14, 2025 at 16:23
Hi Simon,
On one hand, I’m very happy that our number has become current in Asia, but on the other hand, we didn’t expect it to become current this early, which might not give us enough time to move to the US the way we had planned (schools, work, and so on in our home country before leaving).
Do you think it would be wise to delay the interview, or is that too risky? Our embassy usually doesn’t have any issues, and I really wouldn’t want to risk the process in any way.
November 14, 2025 at 16:53
Given the current administration, take your earliest opportunity. You can always enter the USA to activate your status and leave again.
November 14, 2025 at 14:59
Hello,
2026EU280XX. What do you advise, shall I submit my DS260 or wait a little bit more?
Thank you!
November 14, 2025 at 15:25
At that number range, you have some chance, BUT you won’t be sure until June/July. However, you can’t wait until then to submit the DS260, because there wouldn’t then be time to get processed. So – you are going to have to decide what to do without being certain of the outcome.
November 14, 2025 at 14:26
That’s some serious movement for Africa there, could the ban had an effect on this movement? I did calculate, an estimate of 13 000 af selectees are affected by the ban. Im hoping they wont stall till april.
November 14, 2025 at 14:29
Yes I think the ban has an impact. It means that some people will have not submitted their DS260, so the VB number increase doesn’t yield as many cases as we would normally expect – that then sends the VB higher.
November 14, 2025 at 13:29
I am currently in the USA on an F-1 visa and hold Nepali citizenship. My case number is AS13xxx. In the Visa Bulletin, the AS (All South Asia) category shows a 15,000, but for Nepal, it is only 6,000. Can I proceed with Adjustment of Status (AOS) using the AS regional number, or do I have to wait until my Nepal-specific case number reaches 13,000 for AOS ?
November 14, 2025 at 14:01
You have to wait for Nepal if that is where you were born.
November 14, 2025 at 13:12
Give I’m AS18***. Do you think it is worth I start the process to submit DS260? I’m currently in the US under a student visa and don’t want issues.
November 14, 2025 at 13:24
That number seems highly likely to go current – so you can submit the DS260. BUT have you decided to process abroad? Have you considered AOS?
November 14, 2025 at 14:06
I have but honestly got really confused as to what would be the best route. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions? When would someone prefer one over the other?
November 14, 2025 at 14:23
AOS has some advantages, and can be a little more stressful with high case numbers – but it will probably be a good choice for you. At the link below you will find lots of good info on AOS including a comparison between AOS and CP.
https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2026-aos-adjustment-of-status-process-only.352867/
November 14, 2025 at 16:40
Why would be more stressful? Does it make any difference if I’ll submit in California (Bay Area)?
November 14, 2025 at 16:57
The interview timelines are more stressful. That can happen anywhere, including the Bay area.
November 15, 2025 at 16:03
Thanks for the details! Assuming that number will become current relatively late in the year, is it enough to submit I-485 before Sep 30, or do we need to get it processed and have our interview before then?
Additionally, do you think it is ok if we fill out the forms ourselves, or would you recommend having an immigration lawyer help us with it? We are borderline with being fine with the amount this would cost (the lawyer’s help), but on the other hand, don’t want to risk it, so wondering based on your experience, what would you recommend? Again, we really appreciate your help and answers!
November 15, 2025 at 17:56
If you follow the link I gave you, you won’t need a lawyer. BUT you must be approved before October 1 2026.
November 15, 2025 at 19:05
Got it! Last question: if my number become current late in the year (say may/june), would you say it is risky to go with either AOS/CP, as once I submit the forms I’m marked as one with immigration intent and I can risk my student visa (which I still need since I have several years left for my degree)?
November 16, 2025 at 11:03
There is always an element of risk, but generally speaking DV AOS cases move fast and are rarely timed out.
November 14, 2025 at 12:33
Hi Simon,
DV2026 Addis location and my number is below 17,000 I still haven’t received my 2NL . I turned my ds 260 in May 2025 and emailed KC and they responded back in August that everything is current for me . Any cause for concern ? Or just be patient ?
November 14, 2025 at 12:39
Just patience.
