The first VB for DV 2020 has been released. The numbers are lower than my predictions in every region – but people should not panic or worry about that – it simply shows the amount of effort they had put into closing out DV2019 and the numbers will rise over the coming months.

Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. This is the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month, and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs sent in two main batches, some early (around the 15th to 20th) and then some in the later part of the month. I would expect the 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month. The end of the month really means THE END OF THE MONTH. Please don’t waste my time later this month asking about 2NLs. Please. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.

Hi, please share yours too. Mine is below 12500.
August 20, 2019 at 03:33
Hi Santosh,
Mine is below 6000.
May i join on your facebook.
August 20, 2019 at 04:11
Hi I m also from Nepal and I also the selectee and my CN also is under 6000. So can make separate group to discuss in these topic on Facebook
August 20, 2019 at 05:49
I created…DV 2020 winner….search in Facebook….
September 2, 2019 at 02:34
Hi Kiran
Kiran did you get a email from kcc yesterday
August 21, 2019 at 02:07
I m from nepal with CN 13k i think 13k CN is highest CN from nepal
August 25, 2019 at 19:12
No….there are CN above 24k from Nepal..
August 15, 2019 at 15:15
Thank you so much for your hard work ?? Hope the number will progress fast the next month ? . I have a question, for eu region the cut off is 2100 meanwhile in albania cn 3100 has received the email to submit docs. Does it mean that even the cn 3100 has received email to submit doc will not have the interview in October?
August 15, 2019 at 16:33
yes he wont get an interview in October simply because his CN is below the cut off for Europe.
And about the documents mail , Simon said in the video that KCC is sending the documents mail to more higher numbers beyond the current cutoff in order to prepare themselves for the next months and avoid the mess of the previous year.
August 15, 2019 at 17:18
What was the mess of the last year
August 15, 2019 at 17:38
I have been writing about that for months – if you are interested, check the archive above.
August 22, 2019 at 19:31
Hi Mr. Simon how is everything?!
Thank you for all the hard work we really apprciate it!
My number is current for oct. interview Iam the Principal and my husband is derivative Since we want to delay the interview we will process the d260 like 3rd week of nov.
I have a question;
1.Will there be a problem for delaying so many months not to process the ds260?
2.Since my Husband is the derevative does he needs to submit his military cert so we know if we need to translate it ?
Thank you vey much!
August 22, 2019 at 21:02
1. No problem.
2. Yes
August 15, 2019 at 17:27
No. They ask for documents ahead of time – that does NOT mean those cases will be interviewed earlier than their number is current (on the VB).
August 20, 2019 at 14:52
Hi Brit…
Are they requesting for documents via an email?
If so, do you have a sample Email of that kind??
August 15, 2019 at 15:37
Hahaa hopefully it progresses fast for real. Coz at this paste with the very high case numbers it’s…….
August 15, 2019 at 16:09
So now..
can we say that there will be no second draw? or its to early to know?
August 15, 2019 at 17:32
Too early to know.
August 15, 2019 at 19:12
We will wait and see what happens in the next few months , like until January . We hope really that the VB will have big numbers by then .
August 15, 2019 at 16:25
If you please when i will recive the next letter
August 15, 2019 at 17:33
How am I supposed to answer that vague question?
August 15, 2019 at 16:38
Simon , i think that there may be a link between the low CN for this month and the upcoming Trump immigration rules , may be KCC is giving themselves some time to see whether the new rules gonna affect the process or not !!!
August 15, 2019 at 17:40
No.
August 15, 2019 at 19:00
If my cn is on a Visa Bulletin but I didn’t send my documents, Do I losed my chances of my interview or it can be reschedule?
Thanks
August 15, 2019 at 19:47
No you did not lose your chance. Watch the video.
August 15, 2019 at 20:30
i was so optimistic for this dv2020 🙁
August 16, 2019 at 00:22
HI Brit, I was ask to do DNA with my two children which I did register for today. if my children are negative will that failed the process? or what will be the step?
August 16, 2019 at 03:35
The fact that you are asking the question tells me that you are hiding something. I can’t try and guess the outcome when you are not being honest.
August 16, 2019 at 08:20
How could YOUR children get negative to the DNA ? If they are really yours , you have nothing to worry about . Unless …….!
August 16, 2019 at 05:23
After watching your youtube clip, thought I’d let you know our situation to add to your tool box of data. I am OC17XX. Completed d260 in June, KCC asked for our supporting docs end of July which we sent and were approved two days later 8/08/19. We were hoping we may somehow get an early interview by some weird anomaly due to the fast admin of our case, but not seeming likely. They’ve probably just improved their admin process :/
August 16, 2019 at 06:59
There is NO possible way to be interviewed before your number is current.
August 16, 2019 at 08:21
Thanks for your posts I’ve been following them religiously. Just FYI I am DV2020 OC22XX and I have already been asked for documents, you noted that the highest you heard was around OC1000, so they are even further ahead. Not sure that translates to anything though
August 16, 2019 at 13:02
Thanks. Did you submit the DS259 very early?
August 16, 2019 at 22:56
Yes I submitted DS260 on May 8th the day of selection
September 3, 2019 at 05:32
Hi Brit,
Should I be concerned that the two above posts re: OC cases have said they have been asked for their documents be sent even though their OCXXXX case number is higher than my husbands and he has not yet been asked for his documents?
September 3, 2019 at 16:09
In a word, no.
August 16, 2019 at 13:28
hi Brit, i am told that this year dv lottery will require passport be participation how truth is it? if true , will Africa be included
August 16, 2019 at 14:24

August 16, 2019 at 14:57
Hi sir!
I was selected for dv2020 but my case number seems to high and I’m really confused about
My CN is EU55XXX (Albania)
Do I have a chance?
Thank you
August 16, 2019 at 20:55
Yes.
August 16, 2019 at 18:37
Hello Brit
Please understand me about visa bulletin, for October if we plus all regions equal 6,302 case published without Iran, nepal and Egypt, my case number is 2020as14xxx that my case is current after three months? Right?
August 16, 2019 at 21:06
Couldn’t be more wrong.
Read the FAQ.
August 16, 2019 at 20:31
wow so little number
do you still think higher numbers can get a chance?
EU35XXX?
August 16, 2019 at 21:08
Nothing changed.
August 17, 2019 at 07:55
i REALLY hope so 🙁
August 16, 2019 at 23:39
Hi Mari,
My CN is AF67××× And I still have hope to be current ??
August 16, 2019 at 22:36
Hello Britsimon thanks for the updates you continue to give us. I have a worry concerning the changes, in 2021 DV program that principal applicants must submit valid passport, why this short notice?. In my country Cameroon it a very long process to obtain a passport and is very costly for an average Cameroonain, with these changes it means many applicants will not apply for 2021. Can you help me with the State Department email address so I address some issues to them thanks
.
August 17, 2019 at 04:17
They are giving several months notice. If that is too short notice – they don’t really care. Googe the email.
August 20, 2019 at 10:18
Yimnai alekeh just start your passport process
August 17, 2019 at 00:48
Hi Simon, no questions from me today 🙂 I just wanted to let you know that I am DV2020 SA36XX, which is really high, and I have already been asked for the documents. I submitted my DS260 maybe a month ago. Not sure if this means I’ll have a chance of being interviewed or not, but I’m hopeful!
August 20, 2019 at 19:55
that’s amazing great news for you Claudia! can I ask you where are you from in SA? I’m SA34XX
August 17, 2019 at 07:06
Hi
I am a dv lottery winner 2019 went for interview on 4 June 2019 with my husband.but we were placed on administrative processing for 60days..last week the DHL called our passport with my husband…do we have a chance of getting a visa
August 17, 2019 at 17:51
Yes, you have a chance. If you are asking because they asked for your passports – then that is a good sign. They do not need your passports to refuse you.
August 17, 2019 at 21:04
I featured this on a Q& Q LIVEstream this morning. – https://youtu.be/u4jA1wrjeWU
about the 17:50 mark.
August 17, 2019 at 09:33
Hi Brit,
1.Please i just wish to know if it is possible for someone to book a flight and go to a different destination other than the address found on the DS260.That is to say the person who will received you at the airport and accommodate you is different from the addres in which your Green card will be sent to.In that case the addres on the Ds260 remains but you book a plane to a different destination and when the Green card Comes your relative living on the address collect and send to you.Hope it doesn’t pose any danger?
2.Is it still possible to change the US address during the interview?
August 17, 2019 at 20:56
1. You live anywhere. No problem.
2. Yes.
August 17, 2019 at 10:38
Sir, The result of DV announced only month of May or latter of it do?
August 17, 2019 at 20:53
Sometimes more winners are released in October.
August 17, 2019 at 11:40
Hello Sir!Firstly thank you for your great job and everything we learn from you.My only question is : Is it weird that they are only 2100 cases on 1st visa bulletin? As we expected more?I am from Albania,my case number is EU236XX.People here are saying that if there will be only 2000-2500 cases in every VB,it will be closed at 20-28k.Your opinion please Sir?
Thank you in advance!
August 17, 2019 at 20:48
Those people don’t understand how it all works. The numbers will speed up later. Your number is fine.

What’s your case number? Mine is 12500.
August 18, 2019 at 14:41
So read the article above that explains it.
August 18, 2019 at 14:44
What is your case number?
August 18, 2019 at 16:41
Hi my CN is 4200 , when can i receive the email to submit docs ?

August 18, 2019 at 18:36
Interesting, thank you for helping us…
I’m EU36XXX, you think I have any chances?
August 18, 2019 at 18:59
Yes
August 18, 2019 at 19:15
Hi Brit, am 2020 dv winner with cn AF 16**,
I have sent my ds 260 and was asked to submit my documents which I did. on 16 /08/2019 and received automatic reply same day.
From the above analysis, will I be scheduled for October 2019 interview.
Thanks for your continuous guidance .
August 18, 2019 at 20:03
Probably, yes.
August 18, 2019 at 19:25
well, we see low numbers in first VB, in that case “Holes theory” cracks down. Could you give some comment about that?
August 18, 2019 at 20:08
It does not “crack down” the holes theory at all. By the way, in science a “theory” is something that is accepted as certain but we keep testing to reprove the assumption. There is 100% certain evidence that shows the holes theory is true year after year. The only difference this year is a dramatic increase in the amount of holes, but frankly it is OBVIOUS to anyone with any logical ability at all to understand that there are holes, and many more than usual. Just study the selectee numbers and the high case numbers. It’s not rocket science.
I have actually given comments in the article above and the attached video.
August 20, 2019 at 16:11
Yes, I’m understanding the theory but if there have a lot of “Holes” why in this case VB shows low CN. It doesn’t make sense.
In another hand that could be just many selectees that year and that why CN are very high. Just thinking.
August 20, 2019 at 17:57
So in fact NO – you do NOT understand the holes point. You are adding 1 = 1 and coming up with 5. Instead you should read what I have explained.
We KNOW the number of selectees. Exactly.
August 20, 2019 at 18:09
Ok, VB shows CN, not the number of selectees, right? And this 2100 for october (For EU for example) may be will be only few people (selectee) for interview.
Sorry but that I have understand watching your vid for “Holes theory”.
Please correct me, if I get wrong.
August 20, 2019 at 18:29
Yes – the VB is case numbers. So there are very few cases that will be scheduled. I have my assumption about why that is in the article above AND the video.
August 18, 2019 at 19:30
How long does it take the KCC to process the DS260 forms? And when can I expect an email regarding the completion of processing my ds260? My case number is EU31xxx and submitted my ds260 on May 12th. Thanks!
August 18, 2019 at 20:08
The time varies, but you obviously have to wait anyway because of your case number.
August 18, 2019 at 21:39
Hi Mr. Brit, I so much appreciate your effort here more Grace, it has cleared many of my doubts,
Please I’m 2020 and I submitted my ds260 form before my passport came out, and so I did not fill the passport number and other things, please I wish to ask if I can go with the number during my interview and its necessary that I open the form and fill it? thanks for your response in advance
August 19, 2019 at 00:08
It is best to unlock and correct the form as long as you are not already scheduled, or expect to be scheduled very soon.
August 18, 2019 at 22:19
Hi Brit
Sorry, will there be a second draw in DV 2020?
August 19, 2019 at 00:12
Maybe.
August 19, 2019 at 02:40
Hi Brit,
Thank you for your help at all times.
Do you think this year’s VB will go up dramatically?
Or will it rise similarly to the previous years?
August 19, 2019 at 03:44
Faster.
August 19, 2019 at 05:03
Hi Simon!
We have been scheduled for the interview in the beggining of the october.
We have 2NL. They did it, almost right away after visa bulletin has been realeased.
However, we wanted to be in october but they did not send us a doc request but we had very low case 4xx, we just did it by ourselfs around july 20th, and they sent as an approval after 3 days.
August 19, 2019 at 11:55
Hi brit i’m af29 …DV2019 My family and I had our interview on July 25th and we got our visa on the 12th this little delay is due to the fact that our medical results were not ready yet, i wanted to thank you because you were for us a great help God bless you.
August 19, 2019 at 12:55
I’m glad that worked out in the end.
August 19, 2019 at 13:54
Hi Brit,
I am from Nepal. I have on doubt, hope you will clear me . I submitted my DS260 form as +2runnig because while I was submitting DS260 form my results wasn’t published… So does it affect in my 2Nl…And my case number is 55**
August 19, 2019 at 16:08
It won’t affect your 2NL
August 22, 2019 at 08:25

August 19, 2019 at 15:23
Do every case number receive the 2NL which is mentioned in the visa bulletin?
August 19, 2019 at 15:54
Only those that have submitted their DS260 and documents.
August 20, 2019 at 02:27
I have already submitted both and also got reply from kcc that my doc is valid
I am dv 2020 selective from nepal case around 5**
So they send the 2NL either first week of the visa bulletin or the end of the month
So when will i expect my 2NL
August 20, 2019 at 03:42
The article above has your answer.
August 27, 2019 at 03:04
still Haven’t received the 2NL
August 20, 2019 at 15:04
Hi Brit…
Are they requesting for documents via an email?
If so, do you have a sample Email of that kind??
August 19, 2019 at 20:24
Hi Brit.
I’m EU 34XXX… I figured out in May that I’m selected this year.
I have girlfriend since Februar and we wanted to get married even before we figured out I’m selected.
We plan to do our wedding in December this year or Januar 2020… Will this be fine? We were together before the lottery results…
August 20, 2019 at 13:48
All fine.
August 19, 2019 at 22:58
Hi brit
I am planning to make my activation trip next week. But I want to marry with my girlfriend before to leave.I would like to know if that won’t have any concerns. Should I leave and come back later to marry her. We have one child but weren’t married. The child was added on my ds260 because she’s born after the selection
Thank you for your help.
August 19, 2019 at 23:36
No problem to marry now.
August 20, 2019 at 11:25
Thank you brit.
August 20, 2019 at 05:28
Good evening admin. How are you? I have 2 questions to ask you 1: how to take appointment to bring the I-134 form that was asked to me during my interview. Because there in the site http://www.ais.usa.com the available dates are the 17, 19 … September and it was too far for me to bring this form that was asked since August 08. Is there not a way to choose your own date? 2: the form that my sponsor sent me is missing pages 6 and 7 because she says I will not need it because the form was filled by herself and not by a lawyer or a preparer so no information to fill there. My question is, will it not bother me? Thank you for wanting to answer me
August 20, 2019 at 12:50
1. I don’t know. You need to get that form to the embassy – that’s all. Get a move on!
2. I don’t know whether they will question that or not.
August 20, 2019 at 13:24
Hi Brit,
I have two concerns today.
I need to know if it is risky for me to marry my fiancee right now and unlock the DS-260 and add her as wife. On the original entry and on the DS, I am single.
1.Should forego marrying now and face the interview alone then marry her later or should I get the marriage certificate with her and go to the interview with her?
2. On I-134, does the sponsor need some kind of authority say a lawyer to sign it before sending me or just her signature is enough?
3. She has a family of 4 in her house, sponsoring me will be five under her roof, does how much does she have to earn annually, above the poverty line to sponsor me.
Sorry for the many questions.
I thank you for your selfless spirit! Looking forward to hearing from you?
I am DV 2020AF10xxx?
August 20, 2019 at 13:44
1. If your relationship is genuine – then get married asap and add her.
2. Just signed.

Hopefully there are people like you Brit !

All my consideration
August 20, 2019 at 14:47
Congratulations!
August 20, 2019 at 15:21
Hi Brit ,i just would like to hear what do you think about this video (https://www.facebook.com/travelgov/videos/1809827799117763/) DV2020 telling that a high case number does not have nothing to do with the chance of getting a visa .
August 21, 2019 at 12:58
Hello Sir.I have a question. My friend here in Albania, winner of DV2020 with cn EU334*** has already received the email for documents,he sent the documents and also received the email they’re correctly. How it’s possible because of his high CN??
Thank you in advance!
August 21, 2019 at 12:59
Sorry,cn EU334**
August 21, 2019 at 18:31
Not true. That’s impossible… Why would someone in September ask 34k case number for documents? No one from 15k+ will receive any emails until next year… Year will be current and that CN is fine, but that’s not true what you are saying…
August 22, 2019 at 04:23
@Richard. You don’t know what is or isn’t true.

They don’t have to send the documents in number order.

I told him he has to wait because it’s to early. His number is so far from VB but he sent anyway. It was weird to me that he was asked for the documents with that high CN comparing with the first VB with only 2100 cn.Could it be a mistake or they’re asking for documents randomly?
Thank you for your time Brit. You’re doing such a great job here!

There is not a set order to the requesting of documents. It’s not a problem, although I would recommend you refresh your police cert nearer the interview, which will be next year.

Hello
Thanks for your reply. If interview is in mid 2020. Do we need to inform our child is turn 21 in November 2019 to KCC ? As I told you that our case number is AS00029xxx (BURMA).
August 29, 2019 at 17:32
No need to inform them – they already know the birthdate of your child. Depending on when you become current, your child may be able to get a Green Card with you. Read the link below.
