The first Visa Bulletin for DV2026 has been released. For those of you new to visa buletins please read the article linked at the end of this post which will explain how to read the visa bulletin. Now – the numbers have started with very high numbers across all the regions. This will be interpreted as a sign that the visa bulletin will move very fast this year – but I can tell you that this early high start does NOT tell us anything about later progress. The first 2 or 3 visa bulletins are just “guesses” on the part of the government, they have no feedback from the embassies to know how they should be spreading their workload out. However, some of you may want to compare this to other years and you can do so at my link here showing historical visa bulletin numbers.
A BIG surprise for me is not seeing the selectee per country information in this visa bulletin. That is normally published in this visa bulletin or the one before it. However, I suspect they took it out at the last minute before publication when they realized the numbers are flawed due to the errors they have made in the selection process. Those errors have been pointed out in my lawsuit against the government which already caused a public admission of the errors for DV2025 at the end of last week. You can watch my recent videos about the lawsuit if you want to know more about that! In any case, it seems like we will have to wait another month for the selectee numbers – which sucks!

Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, can normally expect their 2NL in the next 2 to 3 weeks from now. This is supposed to be the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month, and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs in daily batches, but we seem to be moving to a more normal procedure where almost all the 2NLs are sent before the end of the month, with just a handful being sent earlier this month. I would normally expect all the interview 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month, but we can see recently they are exceeding that to try and get as many interviews in as possible. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month, and even the first few days of the following month during exceptional times.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.

What is your opinion regarding the fact that the DoS has not published the number of those selected by region? Are they hiding something?
September 4, 2025 at 12:22
Well my lawsuit pointed out that they screwed up the country selections for UK and Cuba – so they are probably deciding what to do about that.
August 28, 2025 at 10:43
Good day.. I am asking about dv 25 interviews, I am 26 k, do I still have chance to receive the letter for interviewing or it’s over for this year ? Actual interview case number is 23960 ! ! Thanks
August 28, 2025 at 15:25
I think almost every embassy has moved on the DV2026, so the chance of more interviews for DV2025 is very low.
August 15, 2025 at 12:27
Hi Brit Simon, thank you so much for your advice and website – great resource. Question I’ve been wondering about: Do we know when the US govt actually sets selection numbers and criteria for a DV lottery, and therefore whether these decisions for the DV 2026 lottery would have been made under a Biden (Nov 24 – Jan 25) or Trump (Jan 25 – May 25) administration? I understand that selection itself is random and computer-generated, but surely there are human inputs on total number of selectees by country and these could be influenced by the views of an administration?
August 15, 2025 at 12:45
There are no inputs on the country selections – it is simply a matter of more entries for a country means more selectees.
August 15, 2025 at 15:13
Thanks for the quick reply. Still would be great to understand if DV 2026 selections were made under Biden or Trump administration? Wouldn’t the administration decide total number of selectees per region?
August 15, 2025 at 18:03
Forget the Trump or Biden thing. The process is run according to a formula.
August 18, 2025 at 06:04
Hi Simon I’m DV25 winner my case is current AF53k my interview location is Dakar but I don’t received 2NL yet any chance of receiving it?
August 18, 2025 at 08:31
It is unlikely you will get an interview now – they have started scheduling DV2026 cases.
August 15, 2025 at 10:49
In ds 260 I didn´t indicate that I attended a university which I didn’t finish, I only attended a couple of years, but I mentioned that I had the High School’s diploma and I attended another university where I got my bachelor’s degree. My question is: Could the fact of not having mentioned the university that I did not complete be a cause for denial of the diversity visa?
August 15, 2025 at 11:08
No.
Please stop repeating this question – I have answered you several times on this point.
August 14, 2025 at 09:56
Based on your experience and based on the first visa bulletin for SA, do you consider that SA will be current until the middle of the fiscal year for dv 2026 or later?
August 14, 2025 at 10:03
I don’t know.
August 14, 2025 at 10:10
IN DS 260 DO NOT INDICATE THAT I ATTEND A UNIVERSITY THAT I DO NOT FINISH, BUT I DO INDICATE THAT I ATTEND SCHOOL AND ANOTHER UNIVERSITY WITH A DEGREE, SO I MEET THE HIGH SCHOOL REQUIREMENT. COULD THIS BE A CAUSE FOR DENIAL OF THE DIVERSITY VISA?
August 14, 2025 at 10:15
You meet the requirement you say – so why are you worried? And why all caps???
August 14, 2025 at 10:58
I ask this because you had suggested that I should unlock the ds 260 and correct it, but I would prefer to avoid delays in the processing of the ds260 or losing my 2NL
August 14, 2025 at 12:19
In this latest message you seem to be saying you detailed your education that meets the requirement. If that is the case, then you are fine.
August 14, 2025 at 00:55
Hii, my case number is 2026AS46** and from mongolia. Our principal applicant has high school diploma, but the Mongolian high school education program used to be 10 years. So does this meet the lottery requirements? And should I expect 2nl in august and september.
August 14, 2025 at 08:51
The education level needed is the level at which you can enter a University to study for a bachelors degree. In some education systems that needs a further 2 years of secondary school. As I understand it, education in Mongolia was not compulsory to that point, so depending on when the selectee went through schooling, he/she might not meet the education requirement.
It is also possible to qualify through work experience. I suggest you read the link below and make a realistic assessment. If you attend the interview and cannot meet the requirements, the case will be denied and fees are lost.

Hello, dear family member Brit. I have a file number of 21xxx in the European region for the 2026 fiscal year. This might not be the right question, but based on your experience, do I have a chance of getting an interview with this file number? Take care, please.
August 13, 2025 at 19:12
Probably, but unfortunately we don’t know the number of selectees for DV2026, so that leaves us guessing for another month…
August 13, 2025 at 15:04
Larger numbers in all regions, but a huge jump in Asia. Any guesses as to why specifically there?
August 13, 2025 at 15:37
Well in general I think slow DS260 processing means they could be generous with the first VB. But for Asia in particular, many of the AS cases are under a travel ban, so many people will be no shows…
August 14, 2025 at 10:02
If we carefully analyze these high and unusual numbers they are only for AS, SA, NA and OC, because in some cases they double the first visa bulletin from previous years, in the case of EU and AF they are within the usual with a slight increase
August 14, 2025 at 10:05
I know. I published a video about that yesterday….
August 13, 2025 at 12:22
I’m 21 year derivative. born in may 28 2004. According to chat gpt i age out in december as cbse gave 7 months period as (213 grace days….). And what i want to know is
1. does the visa bulletin that comes in the months of december my dead line or the one called december visa buletin( that comes in like october) my dead line.
2. Do i just have to get placed in that VB list ? Case number is AS67xx nepal. ds is already fillled way back in may.
August 13, 2025 at 15:35
1. The one published in October
2. Yes your case number has to be under the Nepal number in that VB.
August 14, 2025 at 11:29
then do i have to have interview in the protected period or the case just needs to be current ?
August 14, 2025 at 12:21
Needs to be current. The interview can be later.
August 12, 2025 at 21:31
Hi BritSimon,
Thank you for your service to the DV community. The first visa bulletin for DV2026 is quite surprising for me. My case number is around AS61xx (Nepal) for DV2026, and I submitted my DS-260 in mid-July. I had expected my interview to be around April–June 2026, but now it seems it could be earlier, which is a bit problematic for me.
1. Can I reschedule the interview date after receiving the 2NL from KCC?
2. If yes, do you think rescheduling to May 2026 carries a risk of visa exhaustion for DV2026?
August 13, 2025 at 07:17
1. Yes, you will have to arrange that with the embassy.
2. No
August 12, 2025 at 13:57
Hi Brit, what about Morocco,
August 12, 2025 at 14:11
What about it? Make your question clear.
August 12, 2025 at 11:22
Oh wow, why the huge jump in Asia? as AS17*** this makes me slightly more hopeful! If I have the option to do AOS, is it faster/better than the embassy process?
August 12, 2025 at 11:42
What we will probably see is some months of small or no increases, so don’t celebrate the number too soon.
There are pros and cons of AOS, it isn’t a black and white answer.
August 12, 2025 at 10:07
Hey Simon. Thanks for the info. I just want to maks sure I understood currently, the ‘CURRENT’ status. If my number is EU34xxx, which is high, and the status is CURRENT. (usually it’s after april?) so it means i got a chance to be called for the interview, irrelevant of the order/number i have? (ds260 is filled)
August 12, 2025 at 10:29
Yes. Your chances then depend on DS260 processing and embassy capacity.
August 12, 2025 at 09:56
Dv2026 will start on a high note. Hopefully it won’t slow down and we hope kcc will process cases in time.
August 12, 2025 at 10:33
Well yes, but DS260 processing might be the reason we are seeing high starting numbers, so don’t count your chickens too soon.
August 12, 2025 at 11:51
How long does it take to process ds260? Your best estimate? Ty
August 12, 2025 at 11:59
That is the million dollar question.
First, not all DS260s are processed in the same time. Some take a few weeks, some take many months. The backlog of unprocessed cases can also cause “wait time” and we can’t distinguish wait time from processing time. However, usually my April/May there is no backlog, so DS260s submitted very late would often be processed extremely fast (i.e. 1 to 2 weeks). But in DV2025, we saw a number of late submitted DS260s that failed to get processed in time to get those cases scheduled. So – there is a chance that something in the system has changed that alters the DS260 processing experience.
As a clue toward that, if very few DS260s are processed, the Visa Bulletin moves faster because less schedulable cases are yielded from normal VB movement. What have we just seen – extremely high starting numbers in the VB – is that because of low DS260 completion numbers – maybe.
Long story short – your experience in DS260 is your experience – my best estimate doesn’t matter.
August 12, 2025 at 12:22
Would submission in early september still be considered safe?
August 12, 2025 at 13:12
Normally, yes. For someone with extensive middle east travel/work history, along with nuclear weapons expertise, maybe not.
August 12, 2025 at 09:10
As EU35xxx this gives me some hope that my number will go current at all!
August 12, 2025 at 09:24
LOL. You have fallen into the trap I see…
August 12, 2025 at 09:04
Is this for 2026dvlottery
August 12, 2025 at 09:07
Yes – just like it says the the very first sentence in the article….
August 14, 2025 at 11:08
There is no legal provision in the INA that requires the visa bulletin to show how many visas are selected per country.
The objective of the visa bulletin is to publish only cut-off dates or priority ranges by region.
Due to the lawsuit presented, I consider that such results will not be shown in any bulletin.
August 14, 2025 at 12:20
Maybe, but nevertheless they have done so consistently for every year over the last 20+ years.
August 12, 2025 at 11:17
So what about those with DV 2025AF79k
August 12, 2025 at 11:40
Those people have lost their chance.
