So here are the numbers for May interviews. Pretty good progress for all regions. AF moved less than last month – but overall the position is good.
|All DV Chargeability Areas Except|
Those Listed Separately
|AFRICA||45,175||Except: Egypt 39,000|
|ASIA||18,450||Except: Iran 11,550|
|NORTH AMERICA (BAHAMAS)||17|
and the CARIBBEAN
However, those of you that have read the VB will notice the following text under the numbers.
The May rank cut-off movements for all DV regions continue to be greater than might ordinarily have been expected, in order to generate applicant demand under the respective annual limits. This is because fewer DV applicants are actively pursuing final action on their cases at consular posts abroad, and the volume of USCIS adjustment cases remains low. If large numbers of applicants eventually do begin to have their cases brought to final action, rank cut-off date movements will necessarily slow or stop, and retrogression would become a possibility. At this time, it is not possible to say when such action might be required, but late summer would be the most likely time.
That is a pretty good explanation of what is happening (faster progression than would otherwise be possible) because many people have not sent in their documents in a satisfactory manner. The note warns than if people suddenly do that in large numbers the VB numbers will slow or could even “retrogress”, meaning go backwards. It is ESSENTIAL then to make certain that you have sent in your documents. And those cases that are now current can do that (since KCC have been saying they cannot check the document status until the case is current).
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. This is the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month (although more recently it has been published a few days later – around the 17th/18th), and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs sent in two main batches, some early (around the 15th to 20th) and then some in the later part of the month. I would expect the 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month. The end of the month really means THE END OF THE MONTH. Please don’t waste my time later this month asking about 2NLs. Please. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.

I have a question related to one of my police certificate.
I lived in Spain from 2008 to 2015. I have police certificate from March, 2016. Do I need to have a police certificate with recent date? After 2016 I only went to Spain as a tourist, short term stay.
Thank you very much for helping.
March 16, 2020 at 16:12
Yes – get a new police cert.
March 16, 2020 at 11:51
dear mr simon.
at this point EU398xx can be consider 99 % safe?
with the covid-19 permission obviusly.
March 16, 2020 at 16:16
Embassies are closing around the world.
Scheduled interviews are being cancelled and will need to be rescheduled – which will cause limited interview availability later.
The virus is causing many US based businesses and agencies to send staff home, so I would be surprised if KCC did not reduce staff at this time.
The estimates are for the virus impact to get much worse, not better.
So I am not sure of anything!
March 17, 2020 at 17:23
Thank you so much for your hard work. I have a rather silly question. Given the current circumstances of Embassies being closed down, what are your thoughts on how interviews are going to be rescheduled? I wonder if the postponed interviews will be moved down in the waiting list? Which, basically, means that those unlucky ones will be re-scheduled only in the end of visa interviews routine.
March 17, 2020 at 20:07
No – it won’t work like that. They will reduce their available capacity, so that KCC don’t overload the appointments. THat will give some time to catch up.
March 16, 2020 at 12:40

March 16, 2020 at 23:43
For AOS you do some different things. But in any case you cannot file before you see your case current on the VB. AOS steps laid out here:

I have been living in India Since 2008 till now:
2008-2010: State 1
2014-2020: State 1
When I applied for PCC in State 1; they are quoting the date from 2014 to till date. I discuss with them, they are telling that we can issue certificate from 2014 only as you are staying at that address since 2014.
Indian police are not understanding not willing to co-operate.
What shall I do now.
March 17, 2020 at 17:57
I have no experience with India PCs – so use your own judgement.

Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing.

March 21, 2020 at 16:19

March 19, 2020 at 16:01
The US Embassy of my country in Asia has made an announcement few days ago that they will cancel all routine visa appointments until further notice.
My CN becomes current in May but I got 2NL just now for my interview. Shall I still move forward and stick to the plan unless KCC or the embassy inform me on cancellation/postponement if in an unlikely case? Anything I should worry? Thank you so much.
March 19, 2020 at 20:48
The embassy will contact you to cancel the appointment.
March 20, 2020 at 03:31
Hope you fine
Will you please can share your case no and country details for me. b/c i,m the same situation but did not receive my 2nl or any notice about closing of usa embassy in my country.

March 20, 2020 at 04:27
Sorry for coming back to you with my ask again, my case # is AF36XXX, and received the congratulation message for the document submission in the first week of March, when shall I expect to receive the 2NL? when will be my interview?
Thanks and regards,
March 20, 2020 at 05:34
Document submission? Do you mean document processing completed, or simply received?
March 20, 2020 at 16:53
“Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing…….”
This was what I received on 16 March 2020 when I wrote to the KCC to ask why I was not scheduled for an interview.
Please advise if I should write to them again.
Thanks and regards
March 20, 2020 at 21:21
No need. That is a good email, but since your documents were complete only in March it means you should not expect a 2NL until next month at the earliest. That would be for June interviews, BUT cancellations from prior months may take preference.
March 21, 2020 at 07:51
Thank you very much for the time you are taking to help us. Remain safe and well
March 20, 2020 at 08:02

March 21, 2020 at 16:21
March 21, 2020 at 11:23
hope you are fine especially these days…
I’m EU25XXX. KCC confirmed my documents on March 12th saying Congrats! The Embassy here has stopped all procedures until April 3rd, perhaps they will go beyond that and nobody knows. Should l expect a 2NL for May interview or perhaps June. I know that is a “stupid” question but l’m just asking for your opinion.
Thanks and best wishes
March 21, 2020 at 16:24
You should be able to guess that I have no way to answer that.
March 21, 2020 at 12:04
Hi Mr Brit, I received the congratulatory message for documents received yesterday and below it was attached this message below….

I’m sorry, but daily questions from you with no effort being made by you is frustrating!
Click the archive link above and spend some time reading some of my recent articles. The answers you need are there. Also read the FAQ. That will answer your question for tomorrow and so on.
I am too busy to be an automated answer machine for someone that won’t even take a few minutes to read the information I have already given.

Am sorry my dear friend, our DV mentor. May God continue to bless and enrich you with more wisdom
March 25, 2020 at 16:33
Do you think DV process will resume once Trump has open the government in Easter eve as he promised today? I need your personal opinion and thoughts. Please don’t say WAIT AND SEE. I need your thought. I’ll not treat it as fact because true fafac no one knows. Brit what’s your thoughts in DV process for the remainder of the year? Thank you
March 25, 2020 at 19:02
Trump didn’t promise – nor is he in a position to do so. He says a lot of stupid things – this was one of those.
As for what will happen next. I don’t know. Be patient and observe.
April 7, 2020 at 13:41
HI Brit please I want you to know this, what are the steps to take when you win the DV lottery

Hello sir any possibility to publish visa bulletin in next three months by increasing in number of cases.
April 23, 2020 at 14:51
Wait and see.
May 14, 2020 at 06:35
We can expect 2 NL are being published on 15 or 16 th of May.
Am I correct?
May 14, 2020 at 18:03
Could be a few days later.
May 14, 2020 at 18:17
You mean the 2nd NLs or just the visa bulletin?
May 14, 2020 at 18:37
To be clear – the VB would normally be published “around” the 15th (can be as late as the 20/21).
2NLs are sent in two batches – one very quickly after the the VB, and the second batch by the end of the month.
June 8, 2020 at 09:38
Hello Mr Brit,
My aunt’s Husband (both are Sudan National) won the DV lottery of the year 2021 he has no first degree relatives in the states and he doesn’t have another nationality and he never visited the US. His wife has 2 sisters in the US (an asylee and a green card holder) they have 2 kids a 3 year old and a 5 year old. Do they have a chance of getting a diversity visa?
June 8, 2020 at 16:43
The presidential election is in November. If Trump loses, Biden will probably remove the bans early next year. So – wait until November.
