brit can I schedule my medical before getting my 2nl ?
December 31, 2017 at 22:22
You can, but it’s a bad idea because the visa will expire 6 months after the date of your medical. PATIENCE.

Happy new year
Affidavit of sponsor need original or scan ?
January 1, 2018 at 11:11
I read a update from the department of state mentioning that they do longer need originals to be mailed from the USA unless the embassy specifically asks for it but I need Simon’s clarification here. Said information is here. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/ink-signature-no-longer-required-on-affidavits-of-support.html
January 1, 2018 at 16:38
Theoretically a scanned form should be acceptable since the new guidance. However, an individual CO may still insist on an original form, so that is safer.

Hi Brit, Happy New Year! I’ve checked visa status through CEAC, it says at NVC with the following note below – “Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents. Once NVC has received all the required items, they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete.” As I understand it’s standard wording for all cases that is not current as we haven’t received any instructions from NVC?
January 1, 2018 at 14:13
every case is “AT NVC”. You can ignore the text on the case – the case has not been passed to NVC. What this status means is that the case is in one of the following situations.
The case is not yet current.
The case is current, BUT the DS260 has not be submitted at all, or it was submitted but not processed yet – and therefore not scheduled.
The case is current, the form is processed, but it is waiting to be scheduled (typically because the cases have not yet been sent to the embassies yet).
PLEASE IGNORE the NVC information that appears – it is a standard message and DOES NOT APPLY to DV cases

Hi Brit, I’ve noticed in one question that person has already scheduled interview for July? Is it possible if case number is not current?
January 1, 2018 at 16:41
No that is not possible. That person is mistaken.
January 1, 2018 at 10:38
Hi Simon;
HAPPY new year!
Q1. On my ds 260 form on family information section it saying that “sure name at birth” immediately before mother’s given names…whom sure name put over there…mother or dv winner?
Q2. On my original entry my dugther (she’s derivative) birthday errorly say AUgust 1, 2015 but correction had been take on ds 260 form as AUgust 1,2014 do you think any impact through process?
Thanks in advance!!
January 1, 2018 at 16:40
1. I don’t know what question you are answering (i.e. is it about you or your mother?). Think about that, and answer appropriately.
2. No
January 1, 2018 at 16:09
brisimon bad news I was checked today ceac data after I put my case number I found immigrant application visa REFUSED?What does means it is denial or……?
January 1, 2018 at 16:16
You have previously told me that your number is 43xxx (43 THOUSAND) – so I suspect you have checked the wrong number in CEAC – or you had previously told me the wrong number.
January 1, 2018 at 16:22
Dear Simon,
Happy New Year 2018. With the mail of CEAC I get confused and think all these process are fake. I am the selectee (not sure now) for 2018 and I complete the Ds-260 on June 2017 and waiting to receive a notification (e-mail) or page update (Letter 2nL). Now the CEAC Talking about new six steps and the second step is Fee payment, while we understand we will start the payment during the interview in embassy. Please help me to understand what is really going on? Best wishes, Abdul Hadi

Hello Simon
I was selected in DV2018 and submitted my DS-260 back in May.
My case number is quite high and realistically I do not think my application will become current.
However in submitting the DS-260 I have technically indicated a desire to immigrate to the USA.
My concern is that this may cause problems for me when travelling to the USA as a visitor/tourist.
Do you foresee this being an issue for me now, or in the future?
I am from a visa waiver country (only require an ESTA).
Keep up the good work!
John
January 1, 2018 at 19:23
I can’t see the future, but yes, some people have experienced problems because they submitted a DS260.
What is your case number/region?
January 1, 2018 at 20:35
Thanks for your prompt reply. My case number is: 2018OC000016XX. Going by your historical visa bulletin numbers I am not very hopeful of success, but I do hope that the act of submitting a DS-260 would not preclude me from travelling to the USA as a regular visa waiver visitor/tourist.
January 1, 2018 at 21:33
Ahh yes, you are right to be concerned about not reaching your number. If you had asked, I would have suggested not submitting the DS260 for now – but you cannot withdraw it so there is nothing you can do. Generally for visa waiver this is not a problem.
January 3, 2018 at 07:51
Hi BritSimon. Thanks for all your dedication to answering our questions! I have a similar question to John – I’m not expecting to get an interview (on OC number) but didn’t do my homework to realise this and submitted my DS-260 pretty much straight away last year. I am wanting to travel to America in March for a conference – should I be worried about getting a tourist entrance/visa on ESTA?
Thanks
January 3, 2018 at 16:45
No. It generally doesn’t cause a problem for ESTA, or previously issued visitor visas.
January 1, 2018 at 20:37
Dear Brit, I am reding your post “DV2018 CEAC data help needed”, and whem I intent check my case number in this page “ceac.state.gov”, I put the datas and a note appears with the following information:
“Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents. Once NVC has received all the required items, they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete. You can also find these instructions online at http://nvc.state.gov (English) and http://nvc.state.gov/espanol (Spanish). You will find contact information for NVC at http://nvc.state.gov/ask. ”
Brit What means this note? Previously I entered that page and could see the status of my DS 260, the last status was “In KCC”
Please, if you Know abou this, help me to understand
Thanks
January 1, 2018 at 21:31
That is fully explained in the post you read. Go back and read it to the end.

January 1, 2018 at 23:40
Hi Brit,
I’m a DV lottery 2018 selectee studying in the US for almost 2 years. Do I need a police certificate from the US, my native country or both? I read I may need to get one from the US as “the country of current residence (if different from nationality) if they resided there for more than 6 months”.
Please guide me accordingly…thanks
January 1, 2018 at 23:52
No police certs for USA. As for other countries – read and follow the instructions.
January 2, 2018 at 00:50
Dear Simon,
Thanks for your continuous support for before, during and after the DV process. Now After I got my envelop and it is mentioned on it that after paying the UCIS GC fees then it will be sent to either:
1- the US mailing address I provided in DS-260/interview
2- Or if I want to change it I can do so at the first POE in the US.
3- Or I can change it from my profile when I created my profile at UCIS website,
Now I did that, and it is there that I have the option to change my mailing address in my profile at UCIS for the GC.
my question, is it a common practice to send the GC to the new address that I have changed in my UCIS profile even after I enter the US?
Thank you

Hello Brit, I am an international student in South Korea, I appointed Seoul for the interview. My case number is eu15xxx, guess interview will be on may. My worry is about police records that I have to take from homecountry and Korea (since I lived here more than 6 months) both. I have been caught by police in September and November 2017 twice one for parking drunk and second driving motorbike drunk with accident thanks God no one have been injured.Police did not arrest me, and I freely can come and go from country. Now I am waiting for a fine only. Do you think there might be problem during the interview to get the green card approval?
January 2, 2018 at 05:07
You might have a problem since both problems involved drinking. They might decide you have a drinking problem and will not obey laws.
January 2, 2018 at 05:59
Hi Brit,
I have relocated to another country for over a month now and i maybe here till my interview is scheduled. (CN 2018AF27xxx).I have two questions.
1. Should i unlock my form to change my current address, and can this affect my interview location?.I am the derivative,my spouse is the principal applicant and she is still in my home country where we would like to have our interview.
2. In regard to police certificate i had read that you only need to get it in a foreign country if your stay exceeds six months, does this mean if i will not have completed six months by the time am scheduled i would not be required to get a PCC from current country am residing?. just for clarity please.
Thanks for your continued support for dreamers.
January 2, 2018 at 06:59
1. Leave the address as is.
2. The instruction, as you have described is clear.
January 2, 2018 at 07:31
Thank you.
January 2, 2018 at 09:02
Hi BritSimon,
Thank you so much for all the information and help you´ve been providing. I have already contributed with 1265 captchas and I´m looking forward to the information that it will provide to us.
I have a question. I have been selected in the DV2018 and completed the DS260 on May 2, for me, my husband and daughter (at the time I only had one). I had another daughter in August in the US. Although she does not need to be added as a member of the family who is going to be immigrating, I thought I should still update my information on my application and mention that I have 2 daughters instead of 1. Is this correct? If yes, I was trying to edit my application, but since I had already completed it, it is not allowing me to edit it. What should I do?
Thanks in advance,
January 2, 2018 at 15:30
Thank you for the effort of solving captchas!
Yes you have understood well. As your newborn daughter is already a citizen, she won’t need a DS260 BUT you should add her to the DS260 of both parents. To do that you have to ask KCC to unlock your DS260.
How to unlock is here:
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/how-do-i-unlock-my-ds260/

January 2, 2018 at 17:30
Hi Brit, happy new year to you.
my problem is this: we are three in our family, me, my wife and the new baby. We have 2 different sponsors from 2 different states of US. The both have filled out 2 forms I134. My question is this: can i present these 2 affidavits during my interview cause only their 2 incomes can support us? Thank you
January 2, 2018 at 22:06
No – only one. An I-134 is only useful if that single form shows enough income for the combined family size. Read this https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
January 2, 2018 at 17:58
Good day Sir, my husband and I filled in our ds260 form in December after they have pass by our number which is AF201800008xxx. I jus wanna knw how long can it take the kcc to process the form?
Thank you sir!
January 2, 2018 at 22:04
It varies from a few weeks to 3 or 4 months.
January 2, 2018 at 18:28
I noticed that the highest number in CEAC for Africa CN 52580, you keep the same number of security for Africa 45000
January 2, 2018 at 20:04
Good afternoon!
Dear Simon, I have one question.
I have residency visa in UEA for 3 years but I’m not living there, every month I’m flying there for my business for 2-4 days, should I take police certificate and certificate that they I am not married?
Thanks
January 2, 2018 at 21:59
That is up to you. You might be challenged to provide the police cert, and it will cause a delay if you don’t have it.
January 2, 2018 at 20:20
Good afternoon!
I noticed that the highest number in CEAC for Africa CN 52580, you keep the same number of security for Africa 45000
January 2, 2018 at 21:58
Thanks for that highest number. Once I have the full data I will analyze it – but that is MUCH more complex than simply knowing the highest number.
January 2, 2018 at 20:57
Hi Brit, you’ve mentioned in your article that you need help with solving captchas. Can you please explain what is required from our side to solve captchas. How it works.
January 2, 2018 at 21:56
You log in to the following site. https://dvcharts.xarthisius.xyz/scraper.html
The system shows a “code” called a CAPTCHA, and you type the letters you see. Behind the scenes the system uses your data entry to get one case number each time you solve a captcha. It’s a bit boring – but in 20 or 30 minutes you can enter a lot and help the effort. Some people are doing an AMAZING effort.
January 3, 2018 at 14:49
How do you log in? With no previous registration?
January 3, 2018 at 14:55
You just enter a name you want to use.
January 2, 2018 at 21:49

January 2, 2018 at 22:16
Dear Simon,
my son is still in 10th grade and I plan to keep him in my home country until he finishes high school then move perm. to the US to pursue his university education. he is 15 now, if he goes for the first entry for the DV GC then gets back a week after, does he still have to go every six months? or is there a special condition for under 21 and school students? thank you
January 2, 2018 at 22:23
Nothing special for people under 21 – although the absences can be up to 1 year. You might want to get a re-entry permist which would increase that to 2 years.
January 2, 2018 at 23:13
Hi brit ,
Are you working as a lawyer in U.S. , if so how can I contact you ??
January 2, 2018 at 23:36
No I am not a lawyer – but you did just contact me! 🙂
January 3, 2018 at 00:28
Hello dear brit Sir,
Thank you so much for your kind information.
I have a question about the food stamp and Medicaid. Are DV winners eligible for Medicaid and food stamp or not.
Thank you so much in advance.
January 3, 2018 at 00:59
A citizenship application can be affected by relying on public assistance programs – so be careful with any such program. Frankly you are supposed to go to the USA with a plan to not need public assistance.
January 3, 2018 at 01:08
Hi brit , my interview was on the 6th of Dec I was temporarily refused and CO wrote on my paper 90 days plus they will get back to me, how long should I wait ? And secondly I was put on A P it nearly a month now will they get back to me as they promise? If yes when?
January 3, 2018 at 06:05
AP times vary greatly – so I cannot predict it at all.
January 3, 2018 at 01:13
Brits what is the difference between additional processing and administrative processing
January 3, 2018 at 06:06
I don’t know what you mean by “additional processing “
January 3, 2018 at 15:11
I said my temporary refusal paper is written ADDITIONAL PROCESSING
January 3, 2018 at 15:53
You didn’t say that, but in that case it means the same thing.
January 4, 2018 at 04:52

Hi simon,
I got my visa almost a month ago from Nepal. For some reason i cannot go to the address i had submitted. Is it possible to fly to some other state instead of the one i had submitted in my application? What will happen to my cards that are directed to the initial address can i change it too?
Thanks
January 3, 2018 at 06:09
Go where you want. Upon entry at the POE (airport) make CERTAIN you change the address.
January 3, 2018 at 13:23
Thanks Simon. So, my cards will be directed to the changed address from the POE?
January 3, 2018 at 16:21
Normally, yes.
January 3, 2018 at 09:43
Dear Mr. Simon,
Trust this note finds you well. Today I did more than 500 CAPTCHA. Can I ask a question, what is the connection between these Captcha and the one, which appears in CEAC (VISA STATUS CHECK)? If we enter all CAPTCHA we will know our case status, am I write? Best Wishes, Abdul Hadi
January 3, 2018 at 16:44
Xarthisius has created a solution that shows you the captcha being asked by the CEAC page. When you solve the captcha, the CEAC page validates your entry and displays the CEAC status for one case. You can check your own case directly on the CEAC page, but by the community collaboration we are gathering ALL the data for all the regions, and improving our understanding of the cases in DV2018.
January 4, 2018 at 11:32
Thank you Simon. I solved about 1200 now. regards, Abdul Hadi

Hi Brit, it’s me again konate, i have 2 sponsors. the first sponsor’s income is $ 29,000 and he is an active duty; the second’s income is $ 22,000 and she is a US sailor. As you can see each of them has not got enought income to support ma family of three persons. Tha’s why i would like to make a joint sponsoring but i don’t know how to do it. my interview is for january 09, 2018. i have already read about public charge and affidavit; i134; but i didn’t understood all ; i come from a french country cote d’ivoire. please help in showing me how to make a joint sponsoring with my 2 sponsors. thank you
January 3, 2018 at 16:38
I already said – you cannot have a joint sponsoring. A sponsor that does not meet the requirements is not able to be a sponsor.

Hi,
I am Jordanian living in the UAE. In May I have received the confirmation for fiscal year 2018, then I filled up the needed forms for me and family members and submitted them online in 12th Sep.
Confirmation also received from Online Immigrant and Alien Application DS-260.
the question is, when can I expect the interview?
Thanks
January 3, 2018 at 16:36
Scheduling depends on your case number, which is something you did not mention.

Hi Brit,
I Need your help. I have filled up and submitted DS 260 form and waiting for my second letter to come. We have supplied the current address detail where we are living at the moment. Unfortunately we are moving to a different address in few week time. Do I need to update the new address in DS 260 form. My case number is AS49xx and I am waiting for my second letter.
Thanks in advance
January 3, 2018 at 16:19
You should change the address when you have moved, if you can.
January 3, 2018 at 15:05
Hello Brit
Thanks for the terrific work. I’m glad I was able to solve some CAPTCHAs. It’s an opportunity to help the forum that has helped many of us so so much. I’m a 2018 Winner CN 2018AF00029XXX
1. Does the CO, Nairobi require Sponsor’s Letter? Could you have information about this?
2. Does the US Address put in the DS260, has to be similar to your Sponsor’s Address?
3. Can you use a CN to find out contact information of a Selectee? I met a person who gave me their CN but for some reason I didn’t get their Contact info. I now checked the CEAC Website and they have been ISSUED a Visa. I wanted to find out the due process about this CO, where I will also be attending my interview.
4. This is for the other readers/Selectees! Is anyone here using Nairobi as their CO, Ugandans especially? Please reply this, so we can get in touch…
Thanks for the great work.

Are Support Letters only for those with Families? Or what is Listed under “Affidavit of Support Basics” as “family-based visa categories”?

January 3, 2018 at 16:13
1. Normally a host relationship, but having an I-134 is always safest.
2. No – it could be a different address, but remember the address you give is where the GC will be sent – so be sure it is a real address and there is someone who will hold your GC safely.
3. No
January 4, 2018 at 05:20
Hi julius..see this frm Brits article..
There are several African countries where the “host” system serves to satisfy the requirements. If the selectee is planning to stay with a host, they could be asked what is the relationship between host and selectee. If there is a good relationship (family, or close friend) the Consular Officer is allowed to use their discretion to take that as evidence that the selectee will not become a public charge.
Kenya is one of them. Get a host…preferably family, relative or close family frnd…someone who can host you in US..fill their deyails in your DS269 n their address…am Jackie..2018AF51***…barikiwa

Hello Brit. Thanks for your continuous advise.
I was selected for greencard last year 2017.
In October last year i submited my Ds-260. I do not have a passport yet as there is still a scarcity of passports in my Country.
1.Can i go for the Interview without a a passport?
2.How longer can i postpone my interview date incase i receive the 2NL..so that i buy more time as i wait for my passport?
3.Should i buy the time now by Unlocking My Ds-260 before its processed?

1. Yes, but you will need the passport to be able to travel.
2. You would have to contact the embassy to delay, once scheduled.
3. Too late. Unlocking now won’t stop the scheduling once your case number is current.

Hi Brit Simon, our sponsor already sent us the i134 by mail, he typed the whole formnwith with a black ink pen but he made one mistake. In the field Relationship to sponsor he wrote (notice the crossing of “Brother in law”)
B̶r̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶l̶a̶w̶
Sister in law
But my mom is actually his step-sister. Will there be any problem at the interview or should we tell him to resend that page over again by mail as we have enough time until the interview? Thank you and have a very successful 2018.
January 3, 2018 at 20:36
He actually crossed out brother in law then wrote sister in law but I don’t know what was going on his head instead of writing step sister.
January 3, 2018 at 21:13
I don’t think that will cause a problem as is – people get confused about these terms.

Hello Brit,
My girlfriend has been selected in May. She immediately filled her ds260. At this time, she was living in Switzerland.
2 months after, she moved to Paris France.
Does she has to inform someone (KCC?) Of the country change ?
Thank you!
January 3, 2018 at 23:02
Yes. She needs to unlock her DS260 and change the current address. Then she should resubmit the DS260 and email KCC to update the embassy to paris.
January 4, 2018 at 05:02
Even if she first filled the ds260 choosing Paris embassy? (As we are french)
January 4, 2018 at 05:57
Yes, because that would have been ignored previously.
