Hi I checked the FAQ thoroughly but didn’t find an answer.
My case number IS 2017OC00000XXX. Having a low number, will they skip me entirely if I delay my DS-260 submission until September 2016 for example? Would I risk missing my window of opportunity or the period in which they announce on the visa bulletin? What’s the latest I can submit do you think to absolutely safely not miss out?
Also, I have almost finished a U.S. undergrad degree, is it enough to show this transcript instead of my Australian high school certificate?
Many thanks Simon!
May 9, 2016 at 16:25
No they won’t skip you.
Take degree AND HS documents.

Hi Brit
I won a green card with good case number, but im Syrian resident living in Armenia and Im Armenian resident,is there any chance of denial?
I have filled the lottery application from Yerevan.
May 9, 2016 at 16:24
There is always a chance of denial. You can only consider it certain once the visa is ion your hands.
May 10, 2016 at 04:40
Harout don’t be paranoid because u are syrian.just collect all the supporting documents and u should be ok
May 9, 2016 at 11:00
Hi Brit what kind of background checks does the embassy undertake also in the ds260 if you lost one of your parents should you change in the ds260 also if your wife changed jobs should you also change the ds260
May 9, 2016 at 15:08
Background checks vary – I’m not going to go into details.
Neither change you mention would require a DS260 update, although you could if you want.
May 9, 2016 at 11:01
Hi Brit,
thanks for this useful website and the work you put into it.
I won the DV2016 and my cutoff number is AS80xx, which is below the cutoff number of June 2016 Vsa bulletin just issued (AS:10550) I have a question regarding the interview date. Will the interviews always take place in the same month as cut off date, i.e. in my case in July? Or more likely I could be scheduled for August or even September depending on the workload of the embassy?
If at the interview, some supporting documents are missing, like police records, (it takes up to 8 weeks to get this). Can I submit it after the interview, certainly before September 30, 16.
I am grateful for an answer
Best regards,
Kitty
May 9, 2016 at 15:07
Interview will be in July.
You can submit missing documents later, but that introduces a risk – so do all you can to get the documents in time.

Hi mr Brit
thankz one more time at first
1….i am Somalian citizen and i don’t want to go interview to Nairobi because they are not faithful our education so how about if i submit my DS260 as my address in Somalia (they will automatically choose Nairobi) then can i soon email to KCC requesting a transfer to Djibouti . if yes how it will take if no what is the solution?
2… when medical examination needed to go i mean time to go authorized hospitals not time to go interview
3….is it must to take into interview the petitioner full info or documents? if yes why?
4….what is the main problem of interview location transfer ? could they ask you why you choosed and address there ?
May 9, 2016 at 14:27
1. That would be introducing a risk. I would not recommend it, especially for the reason you give.
2. You have to have a medical with a physician authorized by the embassy where you interview.
3. For public charge concerns, yes.
4. Yes it is a risk I several ways.
May 9, 2016 at 16:16
My interview will be in the mid of June in Egypt. Some people informed me that the Egyptian quota of the DV lottery visas will be exhausted before June.
Based on the VB and other data of DV2016, Is that true? Did that happen in the 2015 or 2014 that the Egyptian quota exhausted in June?
May 9, 2016 at 19:01
No it is not true.

Dear simon
i won 2017 as a single and got randomly selected. I was engaged may 2015. Now i am stucked with my choices. Get married and send ds260 or send ds260 and then get married and ad my wife!!! I would like u tell me what would be the best way and i will have more chances. I need to know what is ur suggestion based on ur experience Your assistance is appreciated in advanced.
May 9, 2016 at 17:44
dear Simon
It would be much appreciated if u can just give me a response on this.
thanks again
May 9, 2016 at 18:59
I’m pretty sure I already responded.
Either way will work – just make a decision.
May 9, 2016 at 17:00
Hello again
My dv country of chargeability is Saudi Arabia.
My birth certificate was issued in Egypt and it stats that i was born in Saudi Arabia, also my Egyptian passport stats that i was born in SA.
Is that good or do I need to issue a birth certificate from SA? Knowing that I don’t know if it is possible or not.
May 9, 2016 at 17:33
A birth cert from SA would probably be better, but others have passed with similar issues due to how SA handles things.

Hi Simon ,
First and foremost, great to find such a fantastic information hub for DV related inquiries – thank you for all your effort and time .
My question is the following – my elderly parents ( both in their early 60s, university educated and currently retired ) just became selectees of DV2017. Both of them are currently residing in the country which by DV definition is EU ( but geographically located in Asia ) and have very modest income from their pensions. Myself and my brother are residing in Western Europe and I therefore would appreciate info/opinion on :
1. Is there a realistic chance for them to get visa considering their age and lack of funds ( we do not have any relatives in the US though I could spend a month or so there to assist them in getting settled providing the visa is granted )
2. Is there any way for myself and my brother to support their application ( in terms of sponsorship even if neither of us is US citizen ).
3 . Will they be expected to provide health insurance arrangements at the interview
I d be grateful for all the relevant information on the matter,
Thanks and regards,
JC
May 9, 2016 at 22:49
1. They might get approved. The real question is whether they really could deal with emigrating and all that entails.
2. Not really, no.
3. Not at the interview, but given their age they would have to be able to get insurance to live there.
So – the question is, for a retired couple without much savings, how would they survive in the USA. They can be retired where they are with friends and family around them or they can move to an expensive country with little help and probably have to work for a living for years to come.
May 9, 2016 at 22:21
Dear Brit
I’d kindly to ask for an instruction on how to fill out education field on DS260—
In my home country 12 years are accomplished as follow : 6 yrs(elementary school) 3 yrs.(Junior high) and 3 yrs.(high school, upon which I obtained my high school diploma)
Should I report a breakdown of the three institutes or just last 3 years of high school?
Many thanks!
May 9, 2016 at 22:40
List junior high and High school, most recent first.
May 9, 2016 at 22:50
thank you.
Also’ if may I please,— what should I fill in ‘course of study’ ‘ for both high and junior high..? (I’m not sure what does it exactly mean)
May 9, 2016 at 22:58
General education.
May 9, 2016 at 23:28
thank you again, one more question please before submitting the DS260…
I areside in the US right now, am holder of A-2 visa.
I’d like however to ask for a CP in my home country ,in case I’m current.
Just to verify – I am entitled to do that, correct?
May 9, 2016 at 23:52

May 10, 2016 at 01:14
Regardless of what you choose they will base it on your address.
May 10, 2016 at 03:49
Simon I have checked and cannot find any postings on the below. For police certificates, should they be provincial or federal. Eg obtained from each province lived in in Canada or from the Federal level. Also, how long is a police clearance certificate valid for, for purposes here?

May 10, 2016 at 08:36
Hi Brit,
Hope all is well with you !
Today i had my interview , it was very good , but since i had put a work experience of 1 year in a company in 2011 and the CO requested me to provide some prove such us ( HR Verification or employment contract).
I think he put me on AP because he provides me a Yellow card that certify your case is in AP.
But the confusion is that he kept my passport with his self and told me that provide us the( HR Verification or employment contract) as soon as possible before 30 September.
Additionally he kept my High School Diploma with his self the Original One.
Can you please tell me whether my case is in AP or not ?
If Yes why he kept my passport at embassy ?
I will drop the ( HR Verification or employment contract) on Thursday .
Please advice .
Thank you Sir !!!!!!!
May 10, 2016 at 13:35
It sounds like AP (221(g). Hurry up and get them the required document.

May 10, 2016 at 08:57
Hi britsimon, thank you so much for this blog and helps. I have been selected from Afghanistan but I have issue with my husband details since he has applied two times for visit visa but refused that he is not eligible the second time most probably the question about his relative lives in US was not matching with first application as first time application was filled by his friend on his behalf and for rectifying the issue has sent many emails to embassy but no reply received.
As there is a question in DV application about refusal of US visa, do you think they will again consider the same issue or I am the main applicant which my data is accurate.
May 10, 2016 at 13:33
I don’t think it will be an issue at all.
May 10, 2016 at 12:08
One Last question .
if i will drop off the requested documents on Thursday 12 May 2016 When i can expect my Visa issuance .???
Thank you much for your all support . it was very helpful for me.
Thanks again .

Hello
I’am A Syrian Citzen living in Syria
I have a couple of questions
first I asked for my interview to be in Lebanon and when I checked the supporting documents for the Lebanese American consulate and they didn’t ask for exemption of the military services
but in the Syrian consulate they ask for it
so is it needed ?
due to the Syrian crisis it is next to impossible to get an exemption but I can get a yearly postpone official letter saying that I have postponed my military service till next year due to Studying/being abroad
I don’t know If u get what am trying to say :S but what do u think of my situation
and at the interview before meeting the co if they asked me for my documents and I gave them the yearly letter that states that I have legally postponed my military service for one year and they didn’t accept it and I didn’t get to meet the CO do I still have to pay the 330$ ?
thanks you for this awesome site.
may the gods bless you.
May 10, 2016 at 13:28
I understand the question – but I cannot give you a certain answer. You will pay the $330 to have an interview and at the interview you will have to produce whatever the CO expects.
May 10, 2016 at 13:05

Hi Simon,
My wife is the winner in dv2017 and i have some inquiring about our case:
1- she is pregnant and spouse to give birth in next December what about this case .we didn’t fill ds260 yet..
2- me and my wife has previous marriage before shall I have to present devorce certificate for me as well however I’m not the princibale applicant??
3- my previous wife was deforced by court after we make some cases against each other in court utill she get devorced.is that cases seems as a crimes however its clear now and not recorded after we get divorce.shall I mentions that in form however nothing recorded against me ??
Thank you
May 10, 2016 at 15:45
My answer to q1 would depend on your case number.
2. Both need to show divorce papers.
3. Tell the truth.
May 10, 2016 at 14:16
Hi Brit
I received the package today and I accidentally opened the envelope thinking that it has the passport inside it.
Do you think I should contact the embassy and have it sealed ? or should I seal it back to where it was ? I didn’t even know what is inside it
I know this is not smart by any mean – but I am sure there should be a solution
Thanks,
May 10, 2016 at 14:35
Take it back to the embassy.
May 10, 2016 at 15:04
Do you mean just go there and let them know at the gates or do I need an appointment ?
May 10, 2016 at 15:35
I don’t know how your embassy will do it. You need to sort it out with them.
May 12, 2016 at 12:48
So I sent an email to the embassy and as of now I didn’t get any response. However, I went yesterday to the embassy and told them what happened at the gates- Few minutes later, they let me in and changed the envelope and resealed it – Phew !!
If someone had a similar situation ( hope not ) – just go to the embassy. They are not responsive to email no matter how specific you are with your case.
May 12, 2016 at 13:22
Some embassies respond via email or phone, some don’t. Glad you got it sorted out.
May 10, 2016 at 14:27
Hi
Your blog has been an absolute gold find! And has really helped calm my nerves – that form is a monster to fill out!
I often travel for work and given my number is 2017OC000007XX if im lucky to get an interview i thought it might be in Feb next year? I may be overseas for work then, do you know if you can postpone an interview, until say the following month – and will that actually effect my chances?
Appreciate any answer, couldn’t see it in the FAQ.
May 10, 2016 at 15:44
You get about 6 weeks notice for your interview. It is best to make yourself available for that appointment. If you want to delay your scheduling, hold back the DS260 for some months and thereby cause a summer interview.
May 10, 2016 at 15:40
hi brit,i get first letter for dv but i have address line mistake because of line one and line 2. is there any chance to get second letter from us
May 10, 2016 at 15:45
Of course.
May 10, 2016 at 15:53
Hey brit
If I submitted my ds260 with my old passport number then I had a new one what should I do ?? Unlock my ds260 and put the new passport number or take my two passports ( old and new ) to the interveiw ??
May 10, 2016 at 15:54
Unlock if you have time. But take both to the interview.
May 10, 2016 at 16:12

Hi Brit
I won the lottery for year 2016 from Asia case number 2016AS00011XXX but am originally from Africa and I born in Africa but am resident in ASia , I hear that this mistake will disqualify me in the interview , any info please in this ?
May 10, 2016 at 18:37
Yes it sounds like you have made a disqualifying mistake.
May 10, 2016 at 17:53
Hi, case number 2016AS1139x. Passport expiring in December 2016 but now that the AS number has jumped quite high and maybe a possibility of getting current next month, do you 1. Recommend I unlock DS260 asap and get passport renewed now and change DS260 in next day. Or 2. Renew passport, do not unlock DS260 and bring both to interview? I’m worried that between now and next month if I do get current, they may take longer to review DS260 and risky. Thanks.
May 10, 2016 at 18:36
Don’t unlock. Renew your passport and take both to the interview.
May 10, 2016 at 18:23
Hi Brit,
I play the DV with my wife and we won together.
We went for interview today and we were put under AP.
what do we do now?
May 10, 2016 at 18:34
Were you asked to provide any document? If so, provide it.
If not, just wait. AP times vary from a few days to a few months….
May 10, 2016 at 19:43
Hey brit
1 – What is the safe time to unlock ds260 and re submit before interview ?
2- and how much does it take usually to confirm a submitted ds260 ?
Thank you
May 10, 2016 at 20:27
1. The interview will not be scheduled while the form is unprocessed. Unlocking stops processing – so IF they allow you to unlock (they won’t once scheduled) you can be sure it is safe to unlock.
2. https://britsimonsays.com/dv2017-basic-questions/
May 10, 2016 at 20:13
Hello Brit, i have one question for you i was one of 2017 DV Selectees and i have sumbitted my DS260 form on 07-MAY and i need to update my sponsor is it ok to unlock it now or to wiat till the interview date so i can update and tell the CO? or it will affect my application.
THANKS.
May 10, 2016 at 20:25
You have MONTHS to wait – so there is no harm in unlocking, but as time goes on you will probably realize you have made other mistakes so why not wait a while and correct a little later.
May 10, 2016 at 22:19
so in the correct way you mean i should wait till the interview?
May 10, 2016 at 20:38
hi britsimons i am an winner of lottery dv2017 , i am from albania and my surname is Çu** , but in ds 260 i have made Cuko because american language doesnt support Ç , can this give me an problem , and i question write full name in native language i have made full name with Ç . is this all right ? thank you for your support
May 10, 2016 at 20:46
It’s OK.
May 10, 2016 at 23:04
Hello Simon. First I want to say thank you for your awesome work and webbpage, helps out a ALOT!
I have a quick question about a DS-260 question here.
This is how it goes : Have you ever been in the U.S.?
wich I answered yes (been there once) i enterted dates and how long I stayed.
next question is (this is where I get confused): Have you ever been issued a U.S. Visa?
wich I said NO. As I went there throug the ESTA online system. Does that count as a visa or not. If I picked yes, I got a whole list of visas and needed to pick one. but did not find any ESTA or similar.
next question is if I have been refused a visa.
Same goes there I picked No.
May 10, 2016 at 23:49
ESTA is part of the visa WAIVER program. So you did not have a visa.
May 10, 2016 at 23:39
Would it be an issue if I do not declare that I am also a citizen or hold another passport of the country I reside in for the last 16 years? I am using the Asian Passport I was born in to apply but did not put that I am also a citizen or hold a passport of another. In this case Uk and interview in London.
May 10, 2016 at 23:46
Why hide anything?
May 11, 2016 at 05:36
It is because it is illegal for Asian country I was born in to have dual citizenship which I have kept on top of the U.K. Citizenship. UK does allow dual citizenship and I did not declare the UK citizenship. Would this pose an issue and if so should I unlock and declare or just go for interview and bring 2 passports in case they ask. Case number maybe current next month.
May 11, 2016 at 05:54
I would advise you do not try and hide anything from the US Embassy.
May 11, 2016 at 03:55
Hi Do you have any information on the O1 visas and the success rate of applicants who are not in the film/entertainment industry?
May 11, 2016 at 05:18
No idea.
May 11, 2016 at 04:12
Hi this blog has really help to improve my understanding of dv related issues, however, wanted some clarification in relation to my own case; won the dv 2016 and filled in the ds 260 4th NOV 2015 and got my confirmation, then discovered in APril that i had a minor mistake wit my countrys zipcode to which i requested kcc to reopen my ds 260 to correct, which they replied within a day, i did the corrections and resubmitted after it was open same late april, then i printed the new confirmation page which is required at the interview; my QUESTION is if this is going to affect the processing of my case since am current foe july interviews? CAN THIS RESUBMIT BE A PROBLEM TO MY CASE?
May 11, 2016 at 05:16
No issue.
May 11, 2016 at 04:30
Dear Brit ,
Greetings !
I had papered my all required documents , but i made a mistake in my DS-260 , i had mention that i was working in a company for 1 year but basically i have worked there for 2 Years Days and Months are same but only instate of 2012 i filled 2011 .
And when i checked my Work Experience Certificate it is 2012 .
and the CO requested my that document .
Dose it will be any problem . or i should write a letter that certify it was a mistake .? along with requested documents and drop it to Embassy Drop Box.
Please advice .
Thank you Sir
May 11, 2016 at 05:15
A letter to certify it was a mistake has no weight – there is no point. Just wait for the CO to decide.
May 11, 2016 at 04:59
Dear Brit
Hoping you can provide some guidance.
I had gone in for my interview yesterday the 10th of May. My application was denied on the basis I selected incorrect FSC.
Basically I was born in South Africa(1988) But for the past 16 years I have been an Australian citizen. This was the information I supplied on the original application.
My argument was that why would I apply as a south African when I am Australian.
His reply was that it was stated on the application, which I dont remember seen as I would of then applied as a South African(even though Im not)
What sucks the most is that my application got through all of the previous phases with that information and only after they took my payment(plus medical exam expenses etc) do they tell me I am unsuccessful due to selecting the wrong country to charge. I had gone through all my paper work with a embassy counselor prior to making payment, she had asked bout my birthplace and all. after that I was told to take a seat and the 2nd counselor called me up made me swear all info was correct and then told me why it had been denied.
My question is if I was to choose to fight this case (as I am Australian) what steps could I take and who would you recommend I contact.
Any help is appreciated.
Clyde
May 11, 2016 at 05:13
You gained an advantage by being chosen in the OC region. The chances of selection are around 5 to 10 times greater in OC region than AF region (where you should have been registered). The instructions are clear. Chargeability is based on country of birth regardless of nationality.
There is no appeal process, and even if there were, your case has no basis for an appeal. There is no possibility to fight the case. It is over. I’m sorry. If you had asked me about this I would have been 100% certain of the denial.
There are some exceptions to the chargeability rules (via marriage or parents country of birth), but those exceptions are “picky” and your chance to make that case (if you had grounds to do so) was at the interview.
May 11, 2016 at 06:41
my interview in Saudi Arabia next month but i have American daughter was porn in USA but we didn’t pay the fees because the insurance paid it , Is this be a logic reason to refuse our visa
May 11, 2016 at 15:29
If the bill was paid it should not be an issue.
May 12, 2016 at 03:21
it paid but by insurance not us
May 11, 2016 at 07:29
Dear Brit,
I am DV winner 2017 and currently I am trying to fill DS-260 form. I have some questions about “Present and previous address information”. How I understood in this section need mentioned only those places where I lived since 16 year old? If “Yes”, so for example if I lived from my date of birth till 19 years old in one place, I have add this information and my “starting living day” will be my born day?
Should I mentioned that I lived in USA for 3 months in summer during “Work and Travel program”?
My living places:
1992.01 (I born) – 2011.09 – one place
2011.09 – present (second place)
And in 2014.06 – 2014.09 I was in USA.
Thank you.
May 11, 2016 at 14:14
Yes, the dates as you list above.
May 11, 2016 at 16:48
But if I do not remember the address where I stayed?
May 11, 2016 at 16:54
Use your best judgment.
May 11, 2016 at 17:55
In section “Work/Education/Training information” should I add information that I worked in USA with J-1 visa?
Or it is enough to fill informationn about USA visa in section “Previous U.S. Travel?
May 11, 2016 at 18:34
Add it in both places. That is important information (that they already will know) so you must be explicit about that.

Dear Birt,
I am an Iraqi citizen staying in Qatar. I just got my case number AS7XXX, I am well aware that it is a high number. My question is since I live in Qatar and only few people apply through Qatar and at the same time only few people apply from Iraq will i get my interview earlier than anticipated at the consulate at Qatar or what ever happens they will follow case numbers even if there not so many people at Qatar consulate.
thanks and looking forward for your answer.
May 11, 2016 at 14:01
No, the interviews are in rank order.

Hi Simon
My wife has been selected for further processing. We are busy completing the DS-260, and isn’t 100% sure what to answer for:
“In which occupation do you intend to work in the US” (options are Medical/health or Homemaker)
and
“Are you a health care worker seeking to perform such work in the U.S. but have not yet received certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing a schools or from an equivalent approved independent credentialing organization?”
My wife is a Physio Therapist, but can’t work as a Physio Therapist in the USA without completing her Masters degree (as it is a 4 year degree in South Africa, and a 5 year degree in the USA).
Technically she will not need to work in the USA (as I will earn enough to support us both), but I’m scared that the emphasis lies on the main applicant to prove that he/she will be able to support him/herself (and not become a burden on the state).
Any advise will be much appreciated.
Regards
Pierre

Her answer on those questions won’t matter one way or the other – so answer the truth. Financial ability is measured on the couple.

Hi Brit, at what time i can schedule an appointment to have my photograph and fingerprints captured at one of the Visa Application Centers (VAC), before receiving my 2NL or after receiving 2NL.
THANKS.
May 11, 2016 at 15:48
I assume you are doing AoS in the USA. If so – they send you an appointment once your I-485 is filed.
May 11, 2016 at 17:23
No am right now staying in Hyderabad,India but consular office in New Delhi instructions is saying this: Step 1: Complete the DS260 form online at https://ceac.state.gov/ceac if you have not already done so. If your appointment was scheduled through the National Visa Center (NVC), you may have already completed this form. If your petition did not go through the National Visa Center (NVC) process (for example, you filed your petition overseas), your invoice ID number will be the principal applicant’s date of birth (Format: DD‐MMM‐YYYY). Please ensure your name, passport number, and date of birth on the DS‐260 correspond to that of your current passport.
Step 2: Print the DS‐260 form confirmation page.
Step 3: Visit http://www.ustraveldocs.com. Follow instructions to create, log in, and schedule an appointment to have your photograph and fingerprints captured at one of the Visa Application Centers (VAC) in India at least one day prior to the visa interview. Appointments for the VAC cannot be scheduled for the same day as your visa interview.

Hi Simon. Hope everything is well. Can I have your help? I’m qualified for DV 2017 and I’m compiling DS-260. Under section “Have you ever been refused a U.S. Visa, been refused admission to the United States, or withdrawn your application for admission at the port of entry?” I applied for B1-B2 visa (some time ago), but I was refused under section 214B. Will this penalized me? How can I explain this in DS-260?
Thank you in advance
May 11, 2016 at 15:47
Section 214B means you failed to show you did not intend to emigrate to the USA when asking for the B1. The DV is a immigrant process so that consideration is not applicable. In other words, it will not be an issue.

Hi again Simon. Once again, thank you very much for this webbpage, it is amazing. So far all my documents are coming a long nicely!
I have one question for you (again) <3
Me and my fiancee are probably getting married during the interveiw times… I will MOST likley have my interview scheduled by then. We know we can contact the embassy and KCC for help regarding this.
But do you know if she needs to collect as muc documents as I do?
Education, work, birth certifacte, police register, etc etc.
OR does she just need to a medical?
Note – I was the one that won the lottery, so she will basicly just "tag along"
May 11, 2016 at 15:42
Depending on your case number and wedding plans you might want to delay your case (by not submitting your DS260) to make sure she is on your case. It is more difficult to include spouses nearer the interview time.
She won’t need education proof but will need everything else.
May 11, 2016 at 15:45
I see. I’ve already sumbitted my DS-260 sadly.
May 11, 2016 at 15:49
We have already planned the date and everything.. maybe if I contact the embassy they will understand :/
I need to write to KCC aswell I guess.
May 11, 2016 at 16:30
It is not a case of them “understanding”. You control the process yourself. I can help you plan, but you have to answer my questions.
May 11, 2016 at 15:50
Depending on your case number (what is it?) and your wedding plans (when is that?) you could decide what to do.
May 11, 2016 at 17:44
Case number is 10800
Wedding is 16th november
May 11, 2016 at 18:33
OK – so 2017EU108XX. That case number could be scheduled for an interview as early as October or November. October interviews are scheduled and sent by KCC to the embassy in August, November interviews are sent in September. Adding a spouse once the interview is scheduled is a bad idea if you can avoid it, because KCC allocate a visa slot to each case as they schedule it. The embassy has very little control over that (especially in an embassy that has few DV cases).
Adding a spouse after interview, but before entry to the USA is technically possible, but the embassies often don’t want to do it. They will tell you to sponsor your new spouse through family based sponsorship. To do that takes two years AFTER you have emigrated and settled in the USA (since you need to commit to financially support your spouse). That method is also more expensive and more complex. In short, don’t do that unless you have NO choice.
You have a choice – 2 choices actually.
1. Delay your own case until after the wedding. That means unlocking your DS260 and leaving it unlocked for several months and try to get a February/March interview.
2. Bring the wedding plans forward – get married now and add your spouse well before August (you need a month or so of processing for the spouse addition).
Really – choose to do one or other of those things. Any other way is not going to work so well. I have been through the planning exercise for many others in the same situation, the 2 choices are the only ones that make sense and work well.
May 11, 2016 at 21:11
Thanks for the information. We’ll probably go by suggestions 2. We’ll make a tiny wedding, and make a proper big one when we feel up for that.
ONE last question. Does she ALSO needs to fill out an DS-260 form?
May 11, 2016 at 21:56
Once you are married, yes.
May 12, 2016 at 01:00
Okey. Thank you. Would this mean she’ll get her own case number / Interview time. Or do we go together to my interview?
May 12, 2016 at 02:22
Together, both under your number.
May 12, 2016 at 11:12
Thank you. That would be all. You’ve been a great help, I owe you!
May 11, 2016 at 17:27
Dear Brit,
1. My Case number is 2017OC000004XX. When do you think my interview will be? Should I send my Ds-260 form ASAP or I can delay? I am currently working in Oman and want to do my interview here. Any idea about the US embassy in Muscat?
2.. I am born in Iran but citizen of Australia since 2014. I am not sure why I am assigned in Oceana category not the Asia. I think I had selected Australia for eligibility. Is it fine to be in a category rather than the place of born?
3. My current work is in a university governed by Military but I work as a lecturer (civilian) but I have the title of the officer, although I do nothing related to Military and just do teaching engineering subjects. Is it considered as I am serving in the Military in DS-260 form? If yes, does it affect my application? and also I am not sure if my employer will issue me a certificate?
4. Military service is compulsory in Iran and I have not done it yet legally because of continuing education till getting my PhD. I have to serve in the Military in Iran from April 2017 and if I go Iran after this date I wont be able to exit the country until I serve in the Military for 2 years. Accordingly, is there anything that may cause any issue to my application.
Thank you very much
May 11, 2016 at 17:34
Are you married to someone born in OC region? If not, I’m sorry to say you will certainly be disqualified at interview. You would be wasting your time and money to continue.
On the eDV entry the instructions are very clear. You must choose the country of chargeability based on your country of birth. You clearly chose a country in the OC region and because of that received an unfair advantage. That is certain disqualification – a similar case in Sydney was disqualified only yesterday. There is no way to fix the problem.
May 11, 2016 at 17:45
Dear Brit
Thanks for your reply. I applied to lottery by one of these websites. It was initially Iran, but they said I can put Australia as I have got the citizenship!!!!! They sent my application themselves :((
May 11, 2016 at 18:21
Great shame.
May 11, 2016 at 18:43
By knowing this, can I submit application for the next round?
May 11, 2016 at 19:16
Yes – it re-opens in October. Please use the official entry page. It is free, simple, and the rules are made more clear there.
May 11, 2016 at 18:29
