Dear Mr. Simon,
I have one question, I won the dv2020 and as you know there are alot of uncertainties about whether you will get the green card or not. I was wondering if it is possible when I get the green card that I travel to US and pick it up with the social security number for month or so. After that get back to my home country and finish up everything (like sell my car and properties for couple of months) then move to America.
August 27, 2019 at 14:44
Yes that’s fine – covered in the FAQ.

Hello Brit
I am back here to thank you immensely for the good work you are doing voluntarily. Not many people will devote 10-20 hours weekly at no cost just to assist to answering and guiding people throughout the DV journey. I appreciate everything you have and continue to do for people you dont even know across the globe.
Anyways, I finally relocatd with my family to the US in April this year after we had visited in 2018 to begin the process for the GC and went back to Ghana to put loose ends together.
I was an Engineer back home in an O&G and wasn’t doing bad. With all the uncertainties unknowns and fears we left with positive attitude. Well wishers were concerned especially moving with family (wife & 2 daughters)
To cut a long story short, I finally got a job as an Engineer and started almost a month ago. Its been great so far. Adapting and learning as much as possible. My daughters have started school and my wife is preparing to write GRE to go back to school.
We couldn’t have made it without you Brit. Thank you for availing yourself to be used by God to help many.
I have donated my widows mite to help in this noble course
Thank you.
August 27, 2019 at 14:49
Thank you for letting me know how it is going. It’s a tough journey, and you will, no doubt, have some challenges, but it’s worth it. Your daughters will live a good life.
Thanks again for the widows mite. It was very generous. At the weekend my daughter said she wants to buy a video camera so that she and I can create some youtube videos to help more people like your family. So your donation gives us a good start towards that! 🙂

I’m worried you didn’t get the mail to send the scanned documents. What should I do? 2020SA20XX. Thank you
August 27, 2019 at 14:53
Just wait. The DV2020 year hasn’t even started yet – there is no need to worry!
August 28, 2019 at 11:01
When did you submit your ds260?
August 27, 2019 at 04:40
My CN is 2020-AS-45XX. Nepal.
I filled up DS-260 in May and unlocked it and re-submitted in July. On July 19, I received a mail to submit the documents and because I was out of the city, it took me about 10 days to send the required documents. After few days of submitting required documents, I again received a mail from KCC stating that I had submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application.
Q1 ) I am currently pursing my senior year at college and it will complete at around mid-September in 2020. From your past data analysis experience, when will I get the visa interview and how long will the VISA last for? I have hunched that I might receive it on May/June and the VISA might expire on October/November. Is my prediction correct?
Q2) Also it appears that I need to change the name and address of sponsor. Can I do that in the Embassy during the interview or should I unlock again. ( I don’t want to unlock anymore as my documents and DS-260 is verified by KCC.) Will it be possible to change at the Embassy right before the interview?
Q3) For I-134, I have talked to a few of my relatives and family friends, and they are willing to do it and send the required documents too but they are not sure where to submit the form. I have informed them that the form is available in the USCIS website but I am also confused about one thing. Does a form downloaded and filled with signature of the sponsor directly send to me without a stamp or signature of the USCIS authorized employee work ? I mean, how will USCIS know that a particular person has signed an I-134 for me? Please help me in this one.
August 27, 2019 at 16:02
1. No you are not correct – the interview will be MUCH faster than you expect – and therefore you should have DELAYED your process by NOT submitting your DS260 or documents. You would have been better to ask me before you did that! Now you will have a headache because unless you can get KCC to delay, your studies will be affected. You may have to re-arrange your interview to make sure the 6 months validity is after the September study date.
2. At the embassy is fine.
3. They download it – they send it to you with supporting documents. That’s it. read the FAQ.
August 28, 2019 at 05:33
In that case, from your intuition, when should I be expecting my interview? Cause I will be having a semester break in April and that usually last for 1 month. I can visit US, enter the port and return to complete my studies. Can it be before April or at April.
August 28, 2019 at 13:35
Possibly.
August 27, 2019 at 04:45

August 28, 2019 at 23:29
Help with what?
August 27, 2019 at 05:27
Hi Brit, my case number is 176xxx from Asia. What is you say about it. I mean any chance to get interview scheduled. Thanks

August 27, 2019 at 06:35
Hi Brit,
I have a question that made me very very worried: I know that the name in the DS 260 should match the exact name on the passport. But in my country when the woman gets married they change her last name on the passport by adding wife of last name of the husband. The other thing they don’t add that in English,, they write in French (Epouse….).
I ignored that and I just put the first name and last name and ignored the name as showing the passport because it does not make sense and is in French not even in English, they could know wife of….I did submit my DS 260 but I am very worried that the KCC will deny my application. Please I need your help.
August 27, 2019 at 16:37
Use the legal name from the passport, and use the “other names” section of the DS260. If you need to correct it, unlock the DS260.
August 27, 2019 at 17:20
Thank you so much Brit for your prompt reply. God bless you! You meant to put in the Surname: last name of the wife without “wife of last name of the husband” (which does not match with the passport) and in the other name just put ” wife of last name of the husband”. Or the opposite, put in the surname the last name of the wife with “wife of last name of the husband” as it shows in the passport and in the other name put “wife of last name of the husband”. BTW, the last name on the birth certificate is just the last name of the wife does not have the husband’s last name. I hope I made it clear and not complicated.
August 27, 2019 at 18:43
If the name changed after marriage, that is the new legal name. That should be in the DS260 and the passport will be changed to match that.
The other names is for the “maiden” name (before marriage) and other names used.
August 27, 2019 at 19:47
You are the best!!! I hope all things in your life go easy and smooth as you make things easy for our process. GOD BLESS YOU!
August 27, 2019 at 10:30

August 27, 2019 at 12:49

August 27, 2019 at 16:40
1. You can go whereever you want.
2. Arrive BEFORE the expiration date (and allow for flight delays). If I were you I would get a new medical.
August 27, 2019 at 16:56
Thank You Brit …Don’t u think visas will be fully issued till I recheck my medical……
August 27, 2019 at 17:16
You need to discuss with the embassy – but obviously you need to do something quickly!
August 27, 2019 at 17:37
Ok Thank U Sirr…
August 27, 2019 at 14:14
Mr.Brit , so my visa packet was returned with all documents ( copy of passport, marriage Certificate , my bachelor, Proof of Relationship ( a lot )
so when enter POE , Do i need to bring all of it? or i take out the copies and only bring the Visa packet?
August 27, 2019 at 16:46
Come on Thomas. You can use some common sense.
August 27, 2019 at 16:15
Hi Brit will require a police report from my wife?
August 27, 2019 at 16:56
Read the instructions please.
August 27, 2019 at 16:24
Hello Brit,
My birth certificate is both in english and my national language but it is hand written and some letter is not clear what should i do? can i notarized and send them ?
August 27, 2019 at 16:56
Can you get a replacement copy? You should use your own judgement.
August 27, 2019 at 17:10
Hi Britsimonsays thank for your kind information.
Now My question is ds 260 form single and ds 260 form couple or principal applicant and add applicant have same mail or different mail for summit the Document?
August 27, 2019 at 17:22
Same email
August 27, 2019 at 17:39
Hi Simon,
I have filled ds260 form and mentioned middle name as one name only while as per the passport it is showing two names, does it make a trouble? Do I need to contact KCC to unlock my ds260 to amend it?
August 27, 2019 at 18:43
Ideally have the DS260 match the passport.
August 27, 2019 at 18:48
Hi Britt, may be this question will annoy you, but you are the only reliable source I can get an idea about this. I am bearing the no AS7XXX and submitted the DS260 (still was not asked for documents) .
There’s a problem in my name. As the name is too long the full name was not written in the passport (had used 2 initials to denote the first two names and then the full name) basically now in birth certificate I have the full name but in passport bit shorten one.
With your experience could you please tell me..
1. will this cause to reject my case during the process of documents are reviewed?
2. Shall I submit an affidavit/s along with my supporting documents?
3. OR is that better to send an email to KCC mentioning this ?
Kindly assist me on this. Thank you!
August 27, 2019 at 19:32
1. No
2. No
3. I think that would make it worse.
If the DS260 is inaccurate, unlock and change your DS260 to be accurate.
August 28, 2019 at 05:38
In DS260, I entered the name exactly as it is in the passport (shorten one) so hope that’s fine.
Thanks a lot Brit. Your input helps us a lot to be in the correct path throughout this journey.
August 27, 2019 at 18:48

August 27, 2019 at 20:02
Hi Brit,
The question about the social media in the DS260. They ask for the ID (Username) of the social media exp Facebook or Linkedin. Do they mean by the ID or the user name, the full name of the person as it shows on Facebook or the email used for Facebook. I need your help please.
August 27, 2019 at 20:59
Username is usually like a nickname.
August 27, 2019 at 22:10
Many thanks to you!!!
August 28, 2019 at 00:02

August 28, 2019 at 00:09
Not for October to December because we don’t have the CEAC data for DV2020.
August 28, 2019 at 00:42

August 28, 2019 at 23:34

August 28, 2019 at 05:39
Dear Brit Can I travel to a state my sponsor is not residing and after activating my visaI will travel to him with 1 or 2 day……

August 28, 2019 at 07:53
Hi brit,
I had a question that I have been wanting to ask for a very long time. So my question is I am 21 years old and currently doing my bachelors in software engineering I am in my 2nd year and I believe my interview will not be until april next year which will be my 3rd year into the BSE and I will still have 1 more year left to complete my program. So with the new public charge rule will this be a problem cause I want to finish my bachelors b4 I leave the country and also will me not having any job experience in my field of employment be a problem. Also I have an affidavit of support from my sister.
August 28, 2019 at 13:40
No problem. JUst be aware of the expiry date of the visa. You will have to enter the USA to activate. Read the FAQ.
August 31, 2019 at 21:10
Hi brit
I was reading an article and it said that we will have to satisfy this condition age, health, family status, financial status and education. At the moment I meet age health education and family status requirement since I already have an affidavit but I do not satisfy the financial as I am still a student. So do u think I will be refused my visa due to me not meeting the financial requirements.

August 28, 2019 at 10:25
Hi Simon,
I have done a number of calculations with the data available over time from UCIS computing the probability year per year of winning the lottery and being selected.
I would like to send it to you and we can perhaps re-use the same scheme for different nations and put it all in a db on your site.
Let me know where I can send you the data/link.
Best,
Prince
August 28, 2019 at 13:44
I’ll take a look. Britsimon3 at gmail

August 29, 2019 at 21:31

August 28, 2019 at 11:12
Hello Britsimon,
A question regarding activation and entry into the USA for the first time. DV 2020 OC4XX. I have gone through the FAQs so could possibly have missed the answer to this and I read your information regarding entry for the first time and the activation process.
However, I still have a question:
Do all derivatives have to travel with the principal applicant on the first time of entry into the USA or can the PA enter, activate his/her own GC and then the derivatives travel later? I’m assuming the derivatives are also bound by the 6 month expiration period printed in their passports? So have to travel within the 6 months but not necessarily at the same time as the PA?
Thanks,
Maureen
August 28, 2019 at 13:46
The derivatives can travel after the principal, but must enter before their visa expiry date.
August 28, 2019 at 13:55
Hey Brit,
Hope all is well with you .
Am a dv2020 winner with CN AF28XX, I submitted my ds260, kcc requested for documents which i sent but sent two emails where on the first email i received response that they were received. however on the send email (police certificates) i didn’t receive any response. Should i inquire or wait patiently. Please advise, thanks
August 28, 2019 at 15:42

August 29, 2019 at 02:48
Hello Brit

And this travel does will effect my applications of SSN and Green Card ?
Appreciate once again your responses all over ?
August 29, 2019 at 03:19
THat’s no problem. THe absence won’t stop the SSN process.
August 29, 2019 at 03:20
Thank you Brit for your prompt reply
My status is updated to Issues after Missing Documents Submission
My Question is
1) Is the Passport will sent to me with Visa?
2) after How long they will send?
3) How long I can stay in my country After Visa issued?
4) They will send any documents to My sponsor in USA?
Thanks for usual support
August 29, 2019 at 17:24
1. If they approve the case, yes.
2. It varies
3. The visa will have an expiry date calculated as 6 months after your medical.
4. No
August 29, 2019 at 05:04
Hi brit
My husband won the dv2020, he already sent his ds260 and KCC ask him to send the docs but the problem is we don’t have our baby passport yet, and the baby will not travel with him but will join him before 30sep2021 so my questions are
1) must he fill the baby ds260 already or wait for her passport?
2) when sending his support docs must the baby birth certificate be included?
3) when going to the interview must he bring only his docs or both docs even though the baby is not travelling yet.
Is case number is very low 2020AF4#
August 29, 2019 at 17:30
You seem confused about dates – please read the FAQ to get a better understanding. If you do not include the baby in the DV process it becomes more expensive and MUCH slower to bring the child later.
1. You can submit before you get the passport, but you should have the passport by the time of interview. Your child would normally attend the interview with you.
2. Yes
3. All documents. As I mentioned – I don’t think you understand correctly about delaying the travelling date for the child.
August 29, 2019 at 08:07
Hey Top Q I am a 2019 dv winner. I already gor my visa. I am thinking of doing the same enter the US for a week or so then leave to go back later and settle in the US. I have a 1-year old baby boy and tons of apprehensions and fears regarding moving to the US with a baby. If you don t mind I would really appreciate your help or anybody else’s help on information about immigrating with kids.
Thanks Simon for letting me request help through your website.
August 29, 2019 at 17:59
What are your fears?
August 29, 2019 at 09:30
Hi Brit..
1 . If married cuple , he can face to interview alone ? (If wife didnt like to go USA )
2 . they will denial his visa and wife’one ?
August 29, 2019 at 18:00
1. Yes (as long as he is the principal selectee).
2. No
August 29, 2019 at 09:44
Morning Sir,
When the embassy put cases on AP will they return visas the same day of interview did or they resend them back to KCC at the end of the month
August 29, 2019 at 18:00
End of the month.
August 29, 2019 at 09:51
Dear Simon, i am 2020DV selectee from Russia.
In the recent years Kremlin has sent out US diplomats from Moscow embassy, in your opinion does it affect the speed of processing of cases in Moscow? in 2020 my employer plans to send me to Europe for some time, so due to diplomats send-off shall I ask KCC to change my interview location?
Thank you!
August 29, 2019 at 18:01
It should not affect your case. Having the interview somewhere else could cause delays anyway as they won’t recognize your documents.
August 29, 2019 at 11:36
Hi, Brits,
With great difficulty i got PCC from QATAR…
They mis-spelled my name in it?…rest all information like passport, date of birth, id numbers and all are perfect..can I submit this…because if i go a head with correction it will take another week…and we all know time is slipping…please advise…
August 29, 2019 at 18:02
You have not told me why you say time is slipping? Case number and year/region?
August 29, 2019 at 21:26
AS14XXX, Am done with my interview, CO said all good just need PCC From birth country…i only received PCC after interview date..as expected CO asked for it, so my case is AP for now..
August 30, 2019 at 02:53
So give them what you have and at the same time start arranging a replacement. They might approve despite the mistake, and if not you won’t have lost time.
August 30, 2019 at 03:04
Many thanks….on it…
August 29, 2019 at 13:09
Good evening sir. Soon registrations for the Lottery 2021. Yesterday I learned the registration method to change ie you must provide the passport number when registering. Is it true ?
August 29, 2019 at 18:37

August 30, 2019 at 09:36
Can you send me article consernat DV2021?

August 29, 2019 at 14:56
Hello Sir Brit,
I am from Nepal and my Case No. is AS 948*. I have heard from people having Case No. 4500 that they were asked to submit documents online despite the cutoff score for Nepal is 1000 for October 2019. Since I have to get police report from another country where I used to stay for more than 5 years so should I hurry to get the police report or should I wait till next year. I am asking this question because the police report certificate has a validity period.
August 29, 2019 at 19:10
You can start that police cert process early.
August 29, 2019 at 15:10
Hi Brit,
Hope you are well. I have been told aome useful advice by youself earlier however my case isnt over yet.
I was interviewed on11th june 2019 and my case went into AP, the consular officer told that he need more clarrification on my work experience and kept my passport, education certificates and employer letters, i dont have high school but got a bachelors degree from a foreign university. However since 60 days passed i inquired through an email on the progress of my case and pls find the reply below.
Thank you for your email inquiry,
Our office is waiting for certain clearances to further process your case. We understand your difficulty because of the delay in the processing. The timing for these clearances are generally based on the history of the case. Our office will contact you as soon as your case gets the clearance.
Mu questions are,
1-what kind of clearance is he waiting for ?
2- my name starts with mohammed as my first name , has it hit their database of any blacklisted name ?if so wts the procedure for them to take it forward?
3- when does the ceac website gets updated ? Any specific day or time ?
4- will i miss my chance if it passes september 30th?
5- “office” as he related above in his email, does it mean the local office or washington?
Apologize for the long comment. Thanks in advance for ur reply
August 29, 2019 at 19:13
1. I can’t tell exactly, but probably security related.
2. It is not just based on a single name. There are millions of Mohanned’s. Anyway – they have their procedure and you can’t speed it up. So just be patient.
3. Varies.
4. Yes
5. Local.
August 29, 2019 at 15:21
Respected Dear Sir,
I m winner of dv lottery .I have private business of 30 years can it be counted as work experience…but I have imported tools from China through my freind licence…I don’t have my own business licence… does it have any law problem…
Regards,
Durkhani
August 29, 2019 at 19:25
Yes that is work experience. No problem.
August 29, 2019 at 15:58
Hi Brits,
Thanks for all the help you are giving… If you made mistake(s) on your DV entry lets say those you classify as “serious” won’t KCC disqualify you after you submit your DS 260 form with the corrections?
Thanks
August 29, 2019 at 20:02
KCC never disqualify cases. That is up to the embassy.

Hi Simon,
I passed my interview last Tuesday with success. All my family got visa and thanks very much for your useful assistance. We are waiting for our passeports with visas But after checking the visa status it shows AP instead of issues. Is this common/normal? Is it possible for the CO to change is décision?

I would like to thank Mr Brit Simon for his useful information about this long process.I wanna say without you, our efforts would have been in vain but to the glory of God it’s has been successful. She had her interview in Accra on 6th August 2019 and by grace of God, she went for her Visa today. My advise for those who are yet to interviewed is to just take Mr Simon informations and every articles written by him serious. Brethren just take simple instructions and you are cool to go.Mr Simon, may the good Lord bless you and grant your heart desires. I’m more than grateful.

Good evening britsimon and everybody in this page
Please, I have a concern, I would like your opinion.
I had played the lottery in 2017 as a bride, right now I was preparing my wedding which unfortunately did not succeed!
My interview took place on August 27, I explained the situation to the consul and the visa was granted to me.
Only I got it back today and I see that my marital status is still married.
I asked them why it did not change yet I told them I was single during the interview they said that the status is not a problem, not to worry.
I would like to know please;
– Will this situation not be a problem for you when entering the USA, a the POE?
– I planned to get married before my departure and then proceed to family reunification. Is it still possible?
Your opinions will help me! Thank you in advance.
Notice that for my ex fiancé i didn’t submit the ds-260 and that before submitted mine in october 2018, i inform the kcc for this problem.
Someone tell me that if i didnt submit anything for my ex fiancé, it means that they don’t have any information for her in her data base so that i can married my actual boyfriend before my travel

It sounds like you have not been at all truthful with them, and I suspect I am only hearing half the truth now. If you have told them you are married, they would expect to see divorce papers. The previous husband was on your entry. You really have created a mess and I cannot help you continue with a case built on lies.

I was honest with them during my interview.
they asked me who was the one I played with as a husband and I told them that this is my old boyfriend with whom we planned to get married but it did not succeed.
in front of the 3 wickets I was honest.
I did not present any act of marriage or divorce, I simply told them that we planned to get married and we anticipated when I played. They were understanding!
I asked you this problem here and you told me to tell them the truth during the interview. This is what I did!
my only problem is if the fact that they have maintained my status as married will not be a problem later please

Honestly – I have no idea what to tell you. Speak to the embassy.

Hi brit
I dont have words to appricate how helpful your site is! I have followed all your steps and now seems that it coms to an end. I was in adminstrative processing for about one month and now my status is issued it says your visa is printed it will be soon mailed or ready for pick up. My last question but not least how much time does it take after this?
Thanks alot
