Hi Brit,
After applying for Dv Lotery, Do we should have to check sevaral times to know are we select. ( ex: for 2015 Entrant Status Check) when i check my status on 10 th may 2016 – ‘i have not selected’. Is there any possibility to i will select? (so, i have to again & again until 30 september 2015? )
October 31, 2015 at 14:35
(so, i have to again & again until 30 september 2016? )
October 31, 2015 at 15:15
It is doubtful that any further winners will be selected at this point.
November 1, 2015 at 02:41
dear brit, i mean not the further winner. is same year early month loser have chance to win back on same year later month? before end the selecting period. or green card is 1 time selecting lottery?
November 1, 2015 at 18:00
The selection is one time.
October 28, 2015 at 19:02
my mum won the lottery and visa approved
i am in 3rd grade high school can i leave from school now and start in us in december?
thank you
October 28, 2015 at 22:36
As soon as you are resident in the US you are entitled to enroll in school – even if that is mid term.
October 29, 2015 at 11:26
soo there is any problem for me that i have left high school here in october
thank you so much
October 29, 2015 at 18:36
No
October 28, 2015 at 14:40
Hi BritSimon, Thank you very much for many valuable information. I have trouble understanding the number still. Is 2016AS00009XXX good number? Is it too late to complete DS260 now? Thank you very much
October 28, 2015 at 14:46
That number is quite high. The 2015 final cutoff for Asia was 7650, so your number has some risk.
It is not too late to submit the DS260.
October 29, 2015 at 14:10
Thank you very much. Does it make a difference that I’m in the US so I will be going through adjustment of status? Will that make it better or worse or no different? thank you very much. Your site has been very helpful
October 29, 2015 at 18:33
It is a different process. Pros and cons.
October 29, 2015 at 18:45
Hi. Is there a link that I can read about adjustment of status? Is my number 2016AS00009XXX still risky under AOS?
Thank you again for your help.
October 29, 2015 at 20:39
Yes your number is risky. You cannot file for AoS until your number becomes current. In the latest lottery that just finished, your number would not have become current… you would not have been able to process your AoS.
Link below explains all. Check the spreadsheet linked from the very first post in that thread.
http://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2016-aos-only.326148/
October 29, 2015 at 22:42
This has been very helpful. Thank you very much.
October 23, 2015 at 01:28
hi simon please when registering the entry,i misspelt my name, instead of adisi i made it asisi could it affect me in any way,or could it be better i re rgister?
October 23, 2015 at 02:22
Do not re-register. It might affect you, but at most embassies that mistake could be forgiven. You have to get selected first though…
October 15, 2015 at 16:51
hi BRIT,
I did application to my son and put by mistake photo with horizontal/vertical resolution was 90 pixel instead of 300.The system accept it but later I have seen its resolution was less.
October 15, 2015 at 17:24
You may be OK. You might be confusing dpi with image size.
Either way, I assume we are talking about a DV2017 entry – and in that case the application is submitted and there is nothing you can change. If selected you can resolve the issue later.
October 10, 2015 at 17:43
Hi Britt the dvlottery.state.gov submission field is not available on their website and im in Ghana whats wrong?
October 10, 2015 at 18:53
I just checked – it is working. Close all your browser windows and try again.
October 8, 2015 at 16:40
Hey! Great information you’ve got here. Thanks a lot!
I would like to apply this year to the DV lottery, but I heard that if applicants have a higher education diploma such as a master degree or a phd they won’t be accepted. So everyone keep “advising” that we only say that we studied 2 years after high school.
Do you know anything about this?
Thanks in advance!
-K
October 8, 2015 at 18:13
The people advising that must be idiots. There is no such restriction – America doesn’t deny Green Cards to well educated people!
October 7, 2015 at 15:13
hello sir, am a winner for the 2016 dv lottery and my case number is 5342..when will i be interviewed
October 7, 2015 at 15:58
I keep answering you, and you keep posting the same question.
So, last time I will ask… Your region and DS260 date?
October 5, 2015 at 20:02
Hi Simon i just submitted my DS-260, Online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application on October 3 so what next?
October 5, 2015 at 20:06
Next you wait 3 or 4 months and IF your case number is current at that time you will get a 2NL (interview notice).
October 5, 2015 at 11:09
sir my case no. is 391 n i fulfill my form in june 16 when did i get my second letter,,
October 5, 2015 at 15:56
Probably in about 4 weeks.
October 4, 2015 at 09:18
Simon
I took a professional photo for the photo submission. With correct specs etc. Can I upload straight on the entry form or must I crop? Cus I tried the systems photo tool and my pix was bigger so I cropped but then it became pixelated but the specs are correct. So shud I crop or not?
October 4, 2015 at 11:08
Think you sir.
October 4, 2015 at 17:23
Using the official photo tool to crop should not pixelate it. If the file size is small enough and it meets the requirement you can use it.
October 5, 2015 at 10:33
Dear Simon Which one is best Sponsor letter n Recommendation letter for interview?
October 5, 2015 at 15:59
Up to you.
September 29, 2015 at 23:16
Hi BritSimon – first thank you for all these invaluable informations your are providing !
My CN is AF00020XXX, I unlocked my ds 260 this monday (sept 28) and i want you know the latest date in which I have to submit it again so it dosen’t impact my interview date (that i estimate to be in jan or feb), any idea ?
the second thing, in my country we have this kind of education system (each set in separate institute): 6 years primary + 3 years preparatory + 4 years secondary. in the end of the 4 years secondary education I received the “high school diploma”. so should I list all of them or just the last 4 years secondary in the ds 260.
check this link http://tirana.usembassy.gov/dv.html : “Education: Applicants must have completed a full-time high school education that is at least equivalent to a U.S. high school education (4 years, full-time, general studies)”
thanks 🙂
September 30, 2015 at 02:33
Whether your uinlock affects your case or not depends on the changes made. At the end of the day if you need the changes, who cares about the timeline?
List the 3 and 4 at least – all if you like.
Tirana is strict and does not apply the rules correctly. If you are interviewing there you will need additional things like meeting their I-134 requirements.
September 29, 2015 at 13:37
Hello, Britsimon! I am not sure if my number is safe – it’s EU00023XXX. So I don’t really know if I will get the invintation for the interview, because the number seems to be too high. So, my question is: “Am I allowed to participate in DV-2017 regardless of later possibility of getting 2NL?”
Thank you!
September 27, 2015 at 16:52
Dear Britsimon, I submit my DS 260, and have a confirmation. but I never received any mails from KCC, Neither for being selected in the lottery, nor for submitting my DS 260. is that Normal??
September 27, 2015 at 17:15
Generally, there are no emails until the 2NL (interview appointment)
September 27, 2015 at 14:25
Hi sir can we be refused visa if entered edv as married as we had a white wedding ceremony at church and customary wedding in family long before original edv, but registered the marriage at marriage department of the country as a late marriage declaration after dv win?
September 27, 2015 at 14:37
Generally that would be OK – unless the embassy is very strict or suspects fraud.
September 27, 2015 at 14:45
Thanks mr Simon for the quick reply, we have a lot of evidence including 4kids, wedding photos, family pictures.. live together
September 27, 2015 at 15:48
Great!
September 27, 2015 at 11:00
Hi mr Simon, i filled the forms Ds260 for me main applicant and the rest of my family, i first submitted the form of my youngest son followed by the olders and my spouse and then me, After i submitted my form all our forms where locked and we can only see it on review mode. But my question is i received an email from the DoS an non reply email saying your application has been received, but the problem is it is saying name provided: the name of my youngest son, my name as the main applicant and other derivatives doesn’t appear in the email, is that normal??
would like to know whether it a common issue, and also want whether it wont affect my application as main applicate
Many thanks
September 27, 2015 at 14:25
Often, a child that was not born in time to be on the original entry is left off subsequent letters, but that is no problem.
September 27, 2015 at 03:51
Hi Britsimon
I am from Nepal. My case No. is 2016AS74x. When did I get the 2nd letter?
September 27, 2015 at 14:40
If you filed your DS260 early enough, 2NLs will be coming out on Monday or Tuesday.
September 29, 2015 at 07:29
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY.
I FILLED DS-260 FORM IN JUNE 10. BUT I DIDN’T GET SECOUND LETTER.
September 29, 2015 at 13:04
Yes that was too late for October interviews. You might be in the next batch (2NLs out today or tomorrow)
September 26, 2015 at 22:35
HI SIR, I’M 2016 DV WINNER. My CN 2016AF000084xx, I Submit my DS 260 in May 15th, in my Educational section, I mentioned my University degree and a later diploma only. Just now i realized from your page that I need to mention my High school in DS 260, so since I didn’t should I unlock to Correct, Or I can Just Bring my High school Certificate with my university Certificate to the Enter View??
one more question, when should I expect my 2nl?? Thank you for your time.
September 26, 2015 at 22:40
I would guess that your interview has been scheduled for November, and because of that it is probably too late to correct the DS260. Therefore you will have to take the proof to the interview.
September 26, 2015 at 22:56
Thank you Sir so much for your reply, One last question, High School and university Certificate is Enough, or I should Bring also my Primary and prep school Certificates??. Thank you sir for everything you do for us
September 26, 2015 at 23:52
Take everything to show progression. If they don’t want it all – fine – but at least you have it available.
September 27, 2015 at 10:20

September 26, 2015 at 14:19
Once you hear 2NLs have gone to everyone else but you have not got it you would be right to worry. They have not gone out yet – simple explanation! More patience required!
September 24, 2015 at 08:53
Sorry Simon I didn’t mention that My CN start with 2016 (2016AF00xxx). and I want to know my chance of having 2NL if I choosed brazil for my interview in DS260. i did summitted my ds26 yesterday. i m a cameroonain by nationality.
September 24, 2015 at 15:09
You will get your interview – but it will be delayed because of your late submission. The embassy chosen makes no difference.
September 23, 2015 at 16:16
would like also to know whether is a comon issue
September 23, 2015 at 16:15
whos the CO?, so you think it wont affect my application?
September 23, 2015 at 21:20
CO is who interviews you.
September 23, 2015 at 15:17
ok thx so much for your quick reply Simon, but do you think my name as main applicant as the one for my husband will reflect later on?
September 23, 2015 at 15:19
This is going to be up to the CO to decide….
September 22, 2015 at 06:15
Hi mr Simon, i filled the forms Ds260 for me main applicant and the rest of my family, i first submitted the form of my youngest son followed by the olders and my spouse and then me, After i submitted my form all our forms where locked and8 we can only see it on review mode. But my question is i received an email from the DoS an non reply email saying your application has been received, but the problem is it is saying : name provided: the name of my youngest son, my name as the main applicant and other derivatives doesn’t appear in the email, is that normal??
Thanks.
September 22, 2015 at 13:09
I think that is normal, yes.
September 18, 2015 at 23:32
Please can you sell your dv lottery to someone if selected
September 18, 2015 at 23:34
No.
September 18, 2015 at 15:41
I want to know what to write in the middle name ??
September 18, 2015 at 16:26
Your middle name if you have one!
September 18, 2015 at 08:52
Hi there, one question, in the DV application form what you have to declare if you don’t have any degree but you’re considering as ”skilled worker” according to OneTCenter?
September 18, 2015 at 13:59
You list your education and work experience completely. Then in the interview you have to make a case based on your work experience – that takes planning and preparation. Read the link below
https://britsimonsays.com/education-or-work-experience-qualifying-for-the-dv-lottery/
September 19, 2015 at 10:28
I meant what to choose in the application form as there is no such option except the education experience.
Anyway, when the appl. form is open on Oct. 1st, I will put ”High School Diploma” and then if I selected I will make a case based on work experience, correct?
September 19, 2015 at 16:14
Yes that would be fine.
September 17, 2015 at 16:41
can i start with the process
September 17, 2015 at 09:14
Hi I am from GHANA and my CN is 2016AF000016XX. I have not submitted yet the DS260. Am I too late to submit DS260 because i was waiting for my high school certificate
September 17, 2015 at 13:44
No it is not too late.
September 15, 2015 at 01:18
Hi I am from Nepal and my CN is 2016AS00047XX. How much probability do you see for such a high no ? I have not submitted yet the DS260. Am I too late to submit DS260?
September 15, 2015 at 03:05
You will be current. Submit your forms, you are not too late.
September 13, 2015 at 01:09
Hi Simon,
My case# 2016AS000046**
Country- Nepal.
Due to TPS given to Nepalese, does it affect less chance for my case # for dv?
September 13, 2015 at 01:23
No affect at all.
September 10, 2015 at 13:01
Dear Simon my second letter came but did i pass in interview or not? How many present pass in interview ?
September 10, 2015 at 13:23
Most people are approved – it depends on you and how well you completed the forms etc.
September 9, 2015 at 15:10
I am selectee From Africa and my case number is 2016Af000014xx and already we have submitted my ds260 application in July 11, 2015.
We haven’t received 2NL from KCC and I doubt there will be a second draw??
Do I am late fill DS 260?
When will received 2NL from KCC???
When will be interview???
September 9, 2015 at 17:05
Your DS260 was submitted late and will take around 3 months to process. So you will most likely get a December interview.
August 28, 2015 at 09:40
Hi Brit 🙂 I am a little worried. My case number is EU00022XXX. Do I have any chance of getting a green card?
August 28, 2015 at 09:41
Also, where can I check the status of my case? Thanks so much in advance!
August 28, 2015 at 13:12
You can’t. You just wait…
August 28, 2015 at 13:12
EU will go current – so relax.
August 25, 2015 at 20:47
Dear Simon,
Kindly i need your help & advice
in the main application on October 2014 I wrote my name as : ADEL EZZAT LABEEB it means my family name is LABEEB when my passport renewed my name became ADEL EZZAT LABEEB HANA based on Egyptian System.
in DS260 the surname should be LABEEB ( as application ) or HANA ( as passport )?
note: in my passport now I have visa by name ADEL EZZAT LABEEB HANA
August 25, 2015 at 22:00
The usual advice is to make sure the DS260 has your accurate legal name. That is normally what is on the birth certificate and matches the passport. If there is a difference then it should be in the alias section of the DS260 also.
August 25, 2015 at 23:10
Hello Simon,
I am also facing quite a dillema regarding my name. As we know the heading at page 1 of the ds-260 reads something like: enter your names exactly as they’re written in your passport or travel document. So, I did as prompted and entered Ivan Ivanov (that’s not my real name though) exactly as in my travel passport. But in all my documents intended for internal use including the national ID card and birth certificate my name readslike Ivan Ivanovich Ivanov. Ivanovich is a patronimic, which is neither middle name, nor alias. What would you suggest I do: add it as an alias or just leave my name as it is, i.e. Ivan Ivanov and try and explain the difference to the CO if any questions arise at the interview?
Thanking you in advance.
August 26, 2015 at 05:03
Enter your legal name accurately on the DS260 and any other versions as aliases.
August 26, 2015 at 20:03
Thank you.
August 25, 2015 at 14:27
Wow! What an informative page. Great job Brit. My question is that I was home schooled due to lack of funds and poverty at a young age but in the later years joined some secretarial college as well as received other educational certificates including a General Education Diploma following online exams from the USA. I am currently undergoing a certificate couse at a University here of which I intend to receive a degree. I also have ten years of work experience at an international organization. My question is, since I do not have the traditional primary and secondary education papers do I reduce my chances of being qualified for the visa. By the way I am a winner of a the 2016 Diversity Visa. I checked late so get a case number of 52*** Africa region. How bad is that and when do I expect an interview.
Thanks so much again and be blessed
August 25, 2015 at 15:16
The home schooling will almost certainly mean you cannot qualify based on education. So – what is your work experience. Read this page https://britsimonsays.com/education-or-work-experience-qualifying-for-the-dv-lottery/
Regarding your case number – it is a bit high. Firstly that means you have to wait almost a year before interview, and there is a chance that you won’t get an interview. It is too early to be certain.
August 25, 2015 at 15:26
hello my cn is 2016AF2xxx i’m asking abut the 2NL
August 25, 2015 at 16:36
2NLs have not yet gone out – they will probably send them this week.
August 26, 2015 at 10:14
Thanks for your response Brian,
I have been working as Monitoring Journalist for over ten years. My job entails working collaboratively, to monitor media from a specified region or on a specified topic and to contribute to the production and delivery of a consistent and reliable service of news, information and insight on that region or topic from the world’s media. To maintain, develop and disseminate expert knowledge of the relevant region or topic. To ensure, as required, that output meets my organizations purpose, stakeholder requirements and editorial standards. My duties also entail monitoring select, prioritizing, editing and where necessary, translate material from media sources including multimedia content. To also maintain and develop expert knowledge of a target region, or of the specialist topic; and to act as a point of reference both internally and for customers.
To keep abreast of media developments globally.
To anticipate developments in the target area and to contribute to forward planning of key monitoring events.
Is this job description good enough to qualify me in the job part since qualification on education part seems negative for me due to the home schooling part.
August 26, 2015 at 14:37
You should have read my work experience article. Do that, and perhaps you will find your job aligns to this?

August 25, 2015 at 16:27
Up to you. You could try to apply for a re-entry permit which can give you permission to leave the USA for up to 2 years. So, you would need to activate the GC, be there long enough to apply for the re-entry permit (including biometrics appointment) and then leave. That period would be a few weeks.
August 20, 2015 at 13:53
Hello Simon,
I want to change this part of DS-260 (to a different state),
“Permanent Address
Please provide the following information on where you intend to live after arrival in the United States.”
Should I unlock DS-260? or it is better to keep the old address and state the new address in the interview.
Best Regards
August 20, 2015 at 14:59
If you are not scheduled for interview you can unlock. That will not cause a delay.
August 20, 2015 at 16:22
Thanks so much,.
My interview has not been scheduled yet.
But the DS-260 has been processed and sent to the embassy for further processing.
However, I need your advice on whether I should unlock and change the destination state or keep the old state and submit the full address in the new state at the interview.
August 21, 2015 at 01:03
It really is your choice – and it is fine either way….
August 17, 2015 at 13:39

Email KCC to unlock your DS260 form and update it.
August 14, 2015 at 15:19
Hello Simon,
Have two questions:
1- What should I show in the interview, a- Certificate of Bank Balance OR b- Bank statement for the past six months.
2- If I want to change this part of DS-260
“Permanent Address
Please provide the following information on where you intend to live after arrival in the United States.”
Should I unlock DS-260? or it is better to keep the old address and state the new address in the interview.
Best Regards
August 19, 2015 at 08:56
Hello Simon,
a kind reminder
August 14, 2015 at 08:33
Dear BritSimon
Thank you for your suggestion. your suggestion is always supporting me to take a decision. I wanted to confirm with you about my worry. Because i believe you.
Thank you.
August 14, 2015 at 05:34
Dear Britsimon
1- I am from NEPAL. I lived and worked QATAR from 1/2/2008 to 31/1/2014 with my old passport and I did not return again there. i made new passport after leaving QATAR at February 2014 . In my new passport there is no QATAR visa and QATAR ID NO. Because of this reason As per QATAR CEID police, They can not put new passport details in my POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE which i made in may 30, 2015. QATAR CEID POLICE mentioned in PCC my living duration, old Passport and QATAR ID NO which i used to worked in QATAR and photo which i used for QATAR ID not my sent New photo. I am really worry in this case. I went to Consultancy in NEPAL. Consultancy told no need to worry and to show OLD passport to CO interview. But I need your suggestion in this issue.
2- My name is not same in my OLD PASSPORT and NEW PASSPORT. like IN old PASSPORT and QATAR PCC MY Name – Mr. SharHu. and New passport and academy Certificate DS-260 Application my name- Mr. Shru. And In DS-260 application i added old passport name as other used name. Now Consultancy of NEPAL is telling to take a approved letter from CIVIL court addressing both name person is same. it will not make any problem. Is consultancy right?
3- Today i got information about PCC ,” US embssay in UK” website this information–“” Foreign police certificates are valid indefinitely, unless you have returned to reside in that country or has been arrested since the issuance of the certificate””. AND “US embassy of RIGA. LATVIA” website this information– “”Police clearance letters are valid for 12 months from the date of issuance. You are not required to renew a police clearance letter from your previous country of residence if you have not travelled to that country after the date of the issuance of such letter””. This means my PCC will not expired. ?
4- you gave me suggestion before, my interview will be in November Probably. MY Case NO. 2016AS20**.
I am waiting for your kind suggestion.
Thank you.

Thank you.

Dear BritSimon
I need your great suggestion. I got police clearance certificate from Qatar. They mentioned my living duration clearly there from 1/2/2008 to 31/1/2014. And Qatar living visa ID Number also and old passport details which I used while I was living in QATAR . I made new passport in February 2014. In my old passport and new passport , in my given name there is one alphabet is different. Like old passport my Given Name Mr. sharHu and New passport my Given name is Mr. Sharu. So in my Qatar police clearance certificate my Given Name is Mr. SharHu. But New passport My given name is Mr. Sharu. While I requested to Qatar embassy and QATAR ceid told me they are unable to do so because I did not used new passport.
1- So my Question is if I show my old passport to CO interview if he asks me this question about the my name it will favour me or not. For your information in my new passport there is old passport No also. And I have also letter from civil administration office Mr. SharHu an Mr. Sharu is same person. I am in tension because of this problem.
2- if I did not travel any country after issuing police clearance certificate, (like till 31/1/2014 i stayed Qatar and my PCC is issued in may 2015) my police clearance certificate will be expired or not?
Thank you.

Only the CO can decide both these issues. You don’t tell me when you expect to interview, so I cannot comment on the age of the police cert, but surely getting a new police cert would solve both these concerns – no?
