The July visa bulletin contains the data on how many selectees have been notified for DV2017. It’s a LOW number – 10,000 less than DV2016. So, considering DV2016 has just gone current, it seems certain (at first glance) that DV2017 will be current for all regions also – so that takes away a worry that has plagued the DV lottery over recent years. There is no need for “high case numbers” to be worried (apart from maybe a few cases in Nepal).
To be clear, there will be enough visas in DV2017 for all. There is no country (other than Nepal) that can hit the 7% country limit at these levels.
Regional breakdown (plus 2016 numbers):
AF – 38500 (45034)
EU – 28500 (27011)
AS – 13499 (15002)
SA – 1954 (3000)
OC – 1450 (1500)
These numbers represent winners and family members.
This low number should reduce DS260 backlog times.
The country breakdown can be seen at
One last point. 84000 is a low number of selectees. There may be a plan to release a few more selectees later in the year (sometimes referred to as a 2nd draw), but it is not certain. If it happens it may be something like 5000 to 10000 more winners in the world (so a small number compared with the initial draw). Now, I do not know if that will happen! It has happened in some previous years, but we can’t be certain. So – for those not selected they can check again around October.

Hi Simon;
I am trying to understand visa bulletin, but I could not. My CN is 2017AS000028## when do you think it will interview? , I am so worried because the police record it will take long time to get.
June 9, 2016 at 03:09
The current VB has nothing to do V2017. You will be current for interview later this year – plenty of time to read and learn. 🙂

June 9, 2016 at 02:30
Finally current . 690X nepal 😀 hoping that will get chance for interview before visa get exhausted .
June 9, 2016 at 03:58
Hi Simon,
I have gone thru link given above, in the statistical breakdown of 2017 it is written UNITED ARAB EMIRATES 97. what does it mean? 97 visa will be issued or it is the case number which will be visa issued till 97 and the rest numbers will be cut off
June 9, 2016 at 04:06
97 people selected for further processing.
June 9, 2016 at 06:20

June 11, 2016 at 00:11
https://britsimonsays.com/read-visa-bulletin/
The 7100 is DV2016. We don’t know about DV2017 yet – that is 1 year away!
June 11, 2016 at 01:50
Thank you so much for your wonderful support !!! I am surprised how do you handel this one.
June 9, 2016 at 09:42
Hi Britsimon
i really want to know if it is possible that you checked your dv result for the first time and it was negative
and then you check after some days or months and be positive
June 9, 2016 at 14:27
Read the article above!
June 9, 2016 at 11:10
Brit I freakin love you :D!

Hi Simon,
Firstly I want to thank you for this resource! After 4 years of participating in the lottery, I have been accepted for further processing for the 2017 fiscal year, and I was incredibly lost and confused until I stumbled onto this page! So thank you for taking it upon yourself to create this amazing resource to assist others in their quest for US residency.
I secondly want to applaud you for your incredibly high tolerance of stupidity and laziness. I originally came to this page to learn everything I could but now it’s a wonderful source of amusement (by this of course I mean the comments, from others, and your responses especially the thinly veiled sarcastic ones). I have no questions for you because I have actually spent the time to read all of your articles and frequently asked questions and I’m satisfied with the high level of content and will simply be patient and wait to hear about my interview date without demanding that you tell me when it’s likely I’ll be interviewed without trying to find this answer for myself, because obviously you have enough time to answer this question for every individual accepted for further processing 😉
I did just want to add something, although it’s likely already somewhere on this site (although it’s unlikely people would read it anyway).
It comes directly from the travel.state.gov website in relation to the visa bulletin, and while it outlines the 2016 bulletin, I’m sure it will be applicable once the 2017 bulletin results commence.
You can subscribe to the Visa Bulletin list via email, which may prevent some people from bombarding you with questions about the visa bulletin since they can receive it themselves at the same time. Apologies if this is listed somewhere. I will copy paste the information below just in case.

Thanks for the morning chuckle. If you ever do need to ask a question, I will try to keep my sarcasm under control for you! 😉
June 9, 2016 at 17:50
I couldn’t agree with you more on all of your points listed above. As humans, we are quick to criticize and bad talk and hit people over the head when anything goes badly, and not according to our expectations. However, as quick as we are to condemn, we are just as slow to issue words of gratitude and appreciation. So again, I have to agree with your post.
Simon, thanks a million for your patience and effort. This site is hugely beneficial to all, whether they admit it or not. It has definitely benefitted me tremendously, and again for that, I thank you sir!
June 9, 2016 at 18:27
You guys are making me tearful.
June 9, 2016 at 15:12
Dear Brits, my mom did not go through high school but has a vocational certificate in catering/ cuisine. She’s in West Africa. Will her not having a West African Examination Council certificate be a reason for her visa denial?
June 9, 2016 at 16:20
If she does not meet the requirements (education OR work experience) she will be denied.
June 9, 2016 at 17:30
Hi brit i just got confused as for nepal you just mentioned that it is different than other country so as my case no is AS 49xx so do i need to worry or not please get me the answer as i am worried
June 10, 2016 at 07:32
you are safe jagat….. don’t worry….
June 9, 2016 at 17:46
Brit sir another question is the case number is serially given to the regionwise or country wise i mean to say if someone has his case number AS 3245 so this is the selection number from his country or from his region asia
June 9, 2016 at 19:00
Region.
June 9, 2016 at 19:31

Because the dv lottery have lot of expensive and I don’t want to spend money that the of the day I be deny because of participating in the war. Please I need your advice
June 9, 2016 at 21:08
This is not something I am certain about – so I can’t give a definitive answer.
June 10, 2016 at 00:28
Hi
is that number (83000) talks about winners and their relatives or it just about winners only?
you said “there will be enough visas in DV2017 for all. There is no country (other than Nepal) that can hit the 7% country limit at these levels.” but if we count winners with their families in cases who comes from countries like iran, i think they are much more than 7 percent.
(sorry about my bad english)
June 10, 2016 at 01:00
As well as your quote of what I said, I also said “These numbers represent winners and family members.”
June 10, 2016 at 00:33
OK thanks brit, I was worring about it
June 10, 2016 at 08:53

June 10, 2016 at 13:51
So, your entry and DS260 dates differ from the documents you will show. Yes of course that is a problem. The DS260 needs to be correct as a minimum. Unlock and correct it.
June 10, 2016 at 09:38

June 11, 2016 at 01:30
Hi Brit
I have some queries to you. I’d be greatful if you reply to my questions.
1. My sponser resides in california. I will also be going there. Is there any chances of rejecting visa during interview thinking I can’t afford my exenses?
2. I have one year study gap after my high school. Does it affect on the visa procedure?
3. Since the minimum requirement is high school graduate, I have two work experience ( during the gap year and present work) , What if i unlock my ds260 and remove the work experience? Does it affect in the visa?
June 11, 2016 at 03:49
1. Yes, but that is why you have a sponsor.
2. No
3. You should leave the work detail in the form.
June 11, 2016 at 06:10
Hi Brit.
Thank you for your reply earlier. I have one more question. As you said earlier that it may be problamatic as my sponser are from california.
My sponser lives in Cypress, California. She earns around 70$ per hour. Whereas her husband earns 70$+ per hour. They have two kids. Isn’t it enough sum to support me as sponser in California for visa procedure?
I do have relatives willing to sponser me in texas too.where would you suggest me?

Hello Brist
I`m Ethiopian asylum seeker in UK and waiting for interview. And now i`m waiting for my interview. But now i won DV 2017 lottery. my question is that, can i start my process here in UK without telling/informing US Embassy in London/UK. so i need your help please !!!
June 11, 2016 at 14:23
Yes you can start your process – no need to inform the UK embassy.
October 20, 2016 at 06:56
Hi Brist Simon
Last time I told you that I live in UK as Asylum seekers but now tnxs to God I get my residence permit.
I have some questions.
1. Is there any thing i should fullfill any other documents?
2. Is there any effect change home address to your case (I will move to London soon ) and how can I make amendments?
October 20, 2016 at 17:41

June 11, 2016 at 21:11

June 12, 2016 at 02:40
how do you find out the maximum case number for the oc region 2017?
June 12, 2016 at 05:02
It will be around 900 to 950
June 12, 2016 at 03:21
I don’t see Macau in the statistical breakdown, which is odd (Macau was on the breakdown in previous years), do you know why?
June 12, 2016 at 05:01
No one was able to pick Macau in the eDV this year. People from Macau SAR were eligible, but were told to apply charging to Portugal. So – that’s where they are!
June 12, 2016 at 05:48
Do you think by calling KCC they would tell me among those 36 selectees how many are from Macau? Do you think they will release the data of Macau some time in the future?
June 12, 2016 at 06:32
No and no. Why is it so important to you?
June 12, 2016 at 07:20
well just thought i would compare data from different years… not that i would get anything out of it
June 12, 2016 at 07:25
With such low numbers, there is nothing to be learnt.
June 12, 2016 at 13:27
Hi brit i just confused as for nepal you just mentioned that it is different than other country so as my case no is 2017AS 73**so do i need to worry or not please get me the answer as i am worried
What is starting and ending case no for asia
June 12, 2016 at 13:50
Yours is probably one of the highest case numbers for Nepal, so yes there is some risk. However, no one can say with certainty.
June 13, 2016 at 00:28
Thank you.
June 12, 2016 at 14:36
hi briittt!!my visa has been approved ..thank u so much for u effort ..thank u so much.cheers!!!
will post my interview stories in ur blog soon.
June 12, 2016 at 14:59
Great!
June 12, 2016 at 15:27
Hi Brit,
I am from Nepal. Is i-134 needed for nepal too?
June 12, 2016 at 15:39
It could be (any CO can ask) but typically in KDU embassy they expect you to have a host.
June 12, 2016 at 23:51
Hi Brit !
My wife is a winner of the DV 2017 with CN : 2017AF00001XXX and we filled out the form on May 19 My worrys is that when filling the DS260 my wife did not have her passport , so we selected the ” OTHER TRAVEL DOCUMENT ” and now she will have her passport next week.
My questions:
Is it necessarily must unlock the DS260 and correct the type of travel document ? or is it that we can not unlock but just going out with the passport at the interview ?
Another question, whether to unlock , do it will not delay our interview date ? And if so when will we have an appointment?
Thank you so much…
June 13, 2016 at 01:56
It is better to unlock and add it, and that should not delay your interview. But even if it does – so what?
June 18, 2016 at 11:41
Hello brit
Thank you for responding so quickly
Another concern I have, who is sponsoring me is a Gambian and a Guinean I am, he’s just the best friend of my sister and they both live in the USA. The sponsor and I used to discuss by imo and sometimes sending me money.
Now what I would like to know : Did I justify our relationship with ” Best friend of my sister ?” And all the evidence I have to justify our relationship is just a receipt of money transfer between him and me ,as the USD1000 for the embassy fee he shall send them to me and I’ll have that evidence but i don’t know if it’s sufficient.
And tell me , is that this kind of relationship is not that they refuse us visa?
Thank you and sorry to take you your time
June 18, 2016 at 14:57
That seems fine.
June 13, 2016 at 11:59
HELLO BRIT
at first thank you for your help
i’am dv lottery 2017 winner i have submitted my ds260 and at the postal zone/zip code for my present address i have filled it using the Zip code of my university ,which is the only zip code we have in our country (sudan) , and at the mailing address i answered NO for the question (is your mailing address the same as your present address) and re write postal ZIP code of my university again
so i just want to make sure if this may make any kind of problem ?
thank you in advance
June 13, 2016 at 14:03
It should be your present address – even if that address has no zip code.
June 13, 2016 at 14:31
Yes i filled it using my present address
But i used my university zip code
So is this a problem ?
June 13, 2016 at 15:17
No
June 13, 2016 at 19:43
even though i had the option to just choose doesn’t apply for the postal code?
and is it something that worth worrying about ?
thank you again
and sorry for the too much questions i have asked
June 13, 2016 at 20:12
Relax. You are stressing over nothing.
June 13, 2016 at 22:47
Dear simon
I am the dv lottery winner everything is ok I got my visa and I will travel to usa on august my question is how to apply for my fiance visa? knowing that I have only the official document (marriage certificate) without celebrate our wedding, and how long I will wait for ?
I did the marriage certificat after my visa dv lottery.
thank you in advance.
June 13, 2016 at 22:51
Once you are legally married and have entered the USA you can sponsor your spouse. It will take about 2 years.
June 13, 2016 at 23:01
What are the documents they need?
June 14, 2016 at 00:07
It’s a family based application – I don’t advise on that type of case.
June 13, 2016 at 23:08
Can you please tell me the total number of A P in this 2016 program?
June 14, 2016 at 00:06
There are many – but the last data we have is the April 1 CEAC file. Feel free to check that.
June 14, 2016 at 01:38
Hiee brit.my case no is 59## from nepal.i have to correct my ds260.Will my second letter be delayed if i correct my ds260?
June 14, 2016 at 03:31

June 14, 2016 at 08:58
Yeah..2017.
June 14, 2016 at 14:32
Will kcc have the record of previous (unedited) ds260 if i unlock and edit my ds260?
June 14, 2016 at 14:52
Yes.
June 14, 2016 at 15:21
Dear sir
No more ceac data for 2016?
June 14, 2016 at 18:11
Probably not.
June 14, 2016 at 19:28
hi dear today was my interview they returned our passports back to us and they give me a paper in wich its writing RETURNED TO USCIS-KS …further action in your case has been suspended under section 221(g). and they said to me we will call you later maybe in 1 month.. i think its game over..what do you think dear simon but they still keep my orirginal baccalaureat
June 14, 2016 at 21:13
It’s not “game over” – 221(g) is Administrative processing (AP). They need to do further checks, perhaps on your education documents, or perhaps for other reasons. AP times vary from case to case – it is extremely difficult to predict how long it will take.
June 14, 2016 at 21:46
thank you so much dear simon so they will call me later as they told me even if they returned passports to us.just to let you know i have some defficulties with my hearing i mean i can not hear very good last 4 years and the co asks me about it and i said that i have this problem last years do you think it cause refuse but all documents are good and my health too.sorry for disturbing you dear simon but it is hard to believe that it was just a dream

June 15, 2016 at 01:01
Nothing at all to do with your case.
June 15, 2016 at 00:34
Hi brit.

June 15, 2016 at 00:59
There are MUCH fewer selectees in all countries this year. That’s all.

Hi Mr Brit. I’m selected for dv 2017.i left my country 10 years ago. I’m staying in south africa.i got my police clearance already. Do you think it will be a problem to keep it till my interview next year? Or should I apply for another one .
June 15, 2016 at 13:57
Get a new one nearer the interview.
June 15, 2016 at 17:48
Mr Brit. The police clearance it’s from my country. And I’d never been there since 2007.sorry to ask you again. Is it necessary to get another one?
June 15, 2016 at 20:48
It is safer to get another one.
June 16, 2016 at 03:10
Thank you for your response
June 15, 2016 at 13:33
The police clearance it’s for my country
