The new Visa Bulletin was released, giving the numbers which will be current for August interviews. If your DS260 has been processed, and you are now current, then you should be getting your interview notification soon, but it depends on your embassy. It is important to understand this VB ONLY affects DV2023, and not DV2024 cases.
The regions stayed the same, the only movement we see is in some of the “except” countries. That certainly demonstrates what I have been saying – that the numbers already current provide enough cases to be interviewed. However, there is one more VB to be released, which might see some region changes, but it should be clear that we will see some regional cutoffs at the end (i.e. regions will not all be current as we have seen in recent lotteries).
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, can normally expect their 2NL in the next 2 to 3 weeks from now. This is supposed to be the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month, and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs in daily batches, but we seem to be moving to a more normal procedure where almost all the 2NLs are sent before the end of the month, with just a hadful being sent earlier this month. I would normally expect all the interview 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month, but we can see recently they are exceeding that to try and get as many interviews in as possible. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month, and even the first few days of the following month during exceptional times.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So, for example – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from a few countries, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.

Hi, my name is Salifu Hamidu from Ghana dv 2023 winner. I haven’t received my interview date yet. I would like to know if I still stand a chance to be called for interview.
August 25, 2023 at 11:16
Sadly no. DV2023 scheduling is over.
July 26, 2023 at 04:12
Hello mister Simon, my case number is 2023AF53XXX and my embassy is in Abu Dhabi. I didn’t get my 2NL yet, do I still have a chance to move on. Thank you
July 26, 2023 at 18:39
I can’t be sure, but there is obviously risk that you won’t get an interview.
July 25, 2023 at 15:01
Hello dear Brits,
I have a question.
What’s your advice this particular case.
Have a friend of mine who has been selected in 2024 DV lottery. However he has used a third name (as a second first name) in the entry which is not on his passport (a sort of nickname).
-so when filling the DS-260, does he have to complete with names as it is in his passport ?
-does he have to leave it the way it is with that third name?
I believe he will have to explain himself at the interview if ever his case will be processed.
I need your advice on that one.
Kind regards
July 25, 2023 at 16:38
He should complete the DS260 with his correct legal name, AND use the section for “other names”.
July 15, 2023 at 00:18
Hello Simon,
Hope you are well.
I contacted/emailed KCC to check on the status of my 2023 case after it had been current for two months (since May) and I was informed my DS-260 had already been proccessed and that my case is ready for intervewing.
My embassy(Kigali), has not set in any 2NLs since March where it stopped at 57001 case numbers. From xarthisius’ site, it seems they have processed all those cases apart from a few 221gs.
Is it normal or even okey to contact the embassy for some information about possible scheduling timelines? I am sure by this time the embassys know if they’ll be aable to take on more cases or not. I was supposed to travel this summer but I’ve held off just incase I get a 2NL.
Thanks, Always.

Some people received interview notifications last Friday and today. We are nearing the end of chances for scheduling. Your chance up to now has been based on how the embassy is operating, it is also now about the short supply of visas.
July 14, 2023 at 20:04
Hey Simon, my case number became current in June, but I haven’t gotten any interview notification yet. I’m from Egypt and my case number is within the 22 thousand range, and I’ve sent my DS Form relatively quickly, but I’ve been waiting for my interview for a month and a half now. What’s going on? And is there still hope because I’m beginning to lose faith in my winning chances as we’re approaching august and finally september.
July 17, 2023 at 19:20

Dear Britsimon
I need your explanation, please. After staying asleep for months without proceeding the 20K CN, now the ADD added only two cases- 2023AF32849 & 2023AF34314 to the CEAC database.
But, when I check these two CNs at the previous months CSV files, one CN is from ABD and the other is from FTN. What is going on?
Thankyou.
July 8, 2023 at 22:08
Transfers probably.
July 9, 2023 at 03:58
But, how can an embassy which never schedule an interview for months for CN beyond 20K, now send 2NL for 34K CN?
Is this an ordinary situation?
Thankyou.
July 9, 2023 at 08:44
I mean even if it’s a transfer.
July 9, 2023 at 11:39
If it is a transfer, then the cases were ALREADY scheduled somewhere else and then moved embassy.
July 8, 2023 at 01:27
Hi Brit,dv2023 winner, interview programmed for August, please can I make my medical one month before the interview? Thanks for your help 🙏
July 8, 2023 at 16:26
Yes, but understand that the visa expiry date will be set for the medical date plus 6 months. So your early medical will reduce the validity time of the visa.
July 5, 2023 at 03:57
Hi Simon,
I read that there is an annual quota of 55k DV. When I checked on DVcharts, the total number of people whose visas were issued and who received ready/in-transit is 59k. Our interview is on August 25. If 55K visas are issued by this date, will our interview be invalid? I couldn’t find an example in previous years. What is your opinion?
July 5, 2023 at 14:29
Each person being given a 2NL has visas allocated to that case for the interview month. So – you don’t really need to worry (apart from Algeria).
July 4, 2023 at 17:30
Dear Britsimon
Will there be a time or means to findout the totall number of dv2023 selectees from every country who do not get the chance of receiving 2NL?
Thankyou
July 5, 2023 at 14:24
No.
June 30, 2023 at 22:20
Hi Brit, i did not submit a ds260 for my daughter who’s a US citizen by birth.
1. But i’m wondering if she should accompany us during our interview.
2. Also, would it be prudent to carry along some of her documents like her birth certificate etc just in case questions about her pop up?
I’m asking because of that man who said the CO requested a DNA test for him and his daughter during your ‘LIVE’ today.
July 1, 2023 at 13:36
1. Won’t impact your case either way.
2. Yes, for sure.
June 28, 2023 at 09:55
Hi BritSimon. My passport will expire on 9 May 2024. I have an interview on 10 August 2023 in the Yerevan U.S. embassy. Do I must to get my new passport or continue and register for an interview appointment with my current passport?
June 28, 2023 at 10:21
You would not need to get a new passport for the interview, BUT it might be easier to get it prior to the interview than trying to replace it once you are in the USA. Your choice.
June 26, 2023 at 06:15
Hello Brit. I got a 2NL on 16th of June for early August interview in Luanda-Angola 2023AF5004*. However, until today, when I check the status on CEAC webpage, it says “In Transit. – Your case is in transit to the Consular Section. Your interview date was provided to you by the National Visa Center.” Also, the new batch of 2NLs for Luanda Embassy were not reflected on the last 2 weeks of Xarthisius data.
1- Does it mean I am still in the AV queue, and the confirmation for the KCC scheduled interview will only be valid when the Embassy accepts it?
2- What if it still shows “In Transit” until August on the day of the interview?
June 26, 2023 at 08:46
1. No it simply means the embassy have been slow to update the status – which is no problem.
2. It won’t, but that wouldn’t be a problem if it did. Patience.
June 26, 2023 at 03:19
This means for someone in Addiss or Nairobi if his/her CN is not below 20K, being selected only, is just useless and waste of time, I’m very angry about those joking embassies. May this missery be changed for DV2024.
Anyway thanks Britsimon for everything
June 25, 2023 at 12:03
What will happen to your case if a fiscal year ends while your status is at ‘Ready’?
June 25, 2023 at 14:14
It stays in that status and you lose your chance.
June 25, 2023 at 11:58
Let me add one more Q,
The last CN for that received 2NL for Nairobi embassy is 2023AF57776 which is very close to the Africas highest CN of 63502. So how is it that this embassy is performing badly?
Thanks.
June 25, 2023 at 14:32
Well, they just accepted 151 cases two days ago which brings the total for the year for 699 cases. So that recent batch of 2NLs is a welcome relief at least for those cases, but it is obvious that they have created a backlog too large to clear up in the remaining time. When you consider all the selectees that would expect to interview there (Kenyans and some surrounding embassies), there are probably 1000 to 2000 cases remaining in the queue. If you check the data it is obvious that they have not scheduled all the cases below 2023AF57776, and in fact that was probably a transfer.
June 25, 2023 at 11:03
Dear Britsimon
What is the ‘submitDate’ colomn on the ‘all cases database’ of the 2023CEAC data?
Thankyou!
June 25, 2023 at 14:33
The day the person entered the lottery draw.
June 24, 2023 at 17:14
Hello Simon,
Thank you for the endless hours you put in to help guide people through this process. Three questions from me:
1. When the VB comes out in July for August (and Sept), I presume the Sept numbers noted in there are set in stone and have no possibility of change the following month? ie what we see come out in July for the August VB that has forward September numbers is the last chance for 2023 people. No point thinking it could change the next month given it it is the year end wash-up?
2. With a number in the 2100s in the Oceania pool, the chances of it lifting to there from 1650 or going current look slim given what I have come to understand with the visas left globally. Would that be your reading of it? It requires a crystal ball, so probably an impossible question of you. Is there the possibility of other continents’ allotment going to OC?
3. If it did lift in numbers and this number was valid to get a 2NL on the way, Auckland appears to be pretty slow on processing so not sure they would even get them done by 30 Sept. Is their processing rate usual in your opinion?
Thank you again for your efforts. You are a good human!
June 24, 2023 at 23:28
1. No it won’t change. The VB published in July is it.
2. There could be a change, but seeing it jump to 2100 range seems very unlikely – but the government have been known to do some odd things.
3. It’s fine – that would not be the concern. Getting current is the whole ball game.
June 25, 2023 at 00:10
Thank you Simon for taking the time to reply. Go well.
June 24, 2023 at 16:48
Hello britsimon. Will kcc send 2nls in the month of July or dv 2023 is done and dusted.
June 24, 2023 at 17:10
I expect there will be a small number of 2NLs sent in July for September interviews, but at this point we are pretty close to the end of available visas.
June 22, 2023 at 17:08
Dear Britsimon
Can you tell me highest case number for 2023AS
Thankyou
June 23, 2023 at 00:29
About 27K
June 27, 2023 at 19:09
so do you think september would go up to 27k?
June 28, 2023 at 07:12
No.
June 21, 2023 at 05:47
Hi Brits, why has it taken too long for xarthius report to update this month
June 21, 2023 at 14:36
He updates every Friday.
I think you mean why KCC didn’t send 2NLs fast – well that is because the VB came earlier than usual.
June 20, 2023 at 08:51
Hi, dv23 winner and visa received for my wife and I. On the additional sheet provided together with the envelope to present the arrival immigration and customs office, it list documents to provide to the customs officers. These documents are almost the same we provided at the consulate during our interview. Unfortunately, we didn’t do photocopies of police Certs and we also weren’t given back the original. Do we need to request for new ones and travel along with or not providing them won’t cause a fuss
June 21, 2023 at 14:26
No.
June 20, 2023 at 06:49
Hello Brit,
I have one question please regarding I-134.
On the Embassy instructions it is written that the Sponsor and her spouse must fill separate I-134 forms for the beneficiary.
Since I have read from you that Household size should include sponsor/family AND the selectee/derivatives, my question is whether the Income evaluated to be greater than that shown on the Federal Poverty Guidelines, is the income based on the primary sponsor’s income, or based on the total beetween the primary sponsor and her spouse’s income, since they both fill the form?
Thank in advance!
June 21, 2023 at 14:24
The embassy may be using the form incorrectly. You should have one I-134, and the income should be the sponsors joint income.
June 20, 2023 at 04:52
Case 2. This has just come up 2024
The applicant played at a internet cafe and won. Because she didn’t have the confrimation. The cafe attendent upon knowing that the lady won. When a and added him self to her case as husband with out her approval. Now he is on the case as beneficiary against her will. The ds260 has not yet been submitted. But he has added.
Q1. What can the lady do about this?
Q2. Can that addition be deleted.
Thanks in advance
June 21, 2023 at 14:21
1. Submit her own case, removing his details. Email KCC and explain what has happened.
2. The extra DS260 cannot be deleted.
June 23, 2023 at 02:28
Thanks so kindly
June 20, 2023 at 04:41
Hi brit.
Kindly advise with these information that my friends are face with.
Case 1; DV2023 the applicant played with his wife and no children because 2 of the children were above the age. and the one that was 20 yrs was not living with him at the time of entry.
During the filling of the ds260 he answer yes to the question do you have child or children. And listed his children and their date of birth.
When the 2nd NL came, the last child name was mension on it as a derivative. Even though There were no DS 260 submitted for him.
Q1 should he appear at the interview?
Q2. What how he say if the question is asked why he was not play with?
June 20, 2023 at 04:43
His interview is on July 2 at the Monrovia embassy
June 21, 2023 at 14:20
1. Only if he wants to waste the fees. He will be disqualified.
2. There is no acceptable excuse
June 17, 2023 at 10:04
Hi Sir,
1.Should I add an IT course/Program I did for 6 months to my DS260 to top up mine high school diploma?
2.At the time of filling your DS260 you were unemployed but you become employed after filling it, is it important to unlock to correct it?
3.Is it that important to add your nickname to DS260 the personal section? Especially when you use it on most of your social media platforms?
Thank you for all your efforts 🙏waiting for the reply
June 16, 2023 at 19:21
Hello Brit.
First of all thank you very much for all your dedication on the DV process. You not only inform us, but you also give us emotional support on this long waited process.
I finally got my 2NL today for early August interview 2023AF5004* Luanda Embassy in Angola.
1- I have a Derivative Child with my first partner. Is a Signed and Notarized Letter by the child’s mother authorizing the child to obtain the Immigrant Visa and move to the US with the father, attached with a copy of a government issued ID sufficient or do i need a court document giving me custody of the child? We verbally share custody of the child, but we never went to court for that.
2- My current Wife will not be able to attend the interview on the scheduled date. Do i need to advise the embassy prior to the interview date, or i should tell the at the interview?
3- My current Wife’s Child from her first relationship will be interviewing with me on the scheduled date, however, his mother won’t. With your vast experience on DV, do you think that will be a problem?
June 16, 2023 at 21:08
1. I don’t know procedures in your country, so do your own checks locally.
2. Either way.
3. Possibly. It’s odd.
June 15, 2023 at 17:17
Hi,Mr.Brits,
Could you kindly explain us why there are no 2NLs since July Visa Bulletin has been released,it is somehow stopped.
Does it mean that they are waiting untill all July interviews are done to find out exact remaining quantity of visas?
Thanks in advance.
June 15, 2023 at 19:19
The VB was published early so KCC were not as ready as they would normally be – however, your initial statement is incorrect – because there have been 2NLs sent after the VB was published.
Be patient.
June 15, 2023 at 06:36
hi Mr., Brit
in DV 2023 the winners number was 5529 from Egypt is that number for case or individual, I mean this number count only the main applicant or the applicant and derivatives. thanks
June 15, 2023 at 09:19
Includes derivatives. As does the 55000.
June 14, 2023 at 12:29
Hi BritSimon,
Thank you for your effort on this blog, I am a dv selectee for 2024 but when I look at the VB especially this month of August 2023, the current case number is 63500. Do you think that people with a high case number (lets say AF80K) will get a chance at this point?
Additionally, when you say backlog, do the embassy still work on those backlogs even though it past the fiscal year?
Thank you
June 15, 2023 at 09:11
1. You are wasting your time comparing case numbers without knowing selectee numbers.
2. About backlogs – no. DV2023 will end on September 30, 2023
June 13, 2023 at 21:45
What is the situation with the Colombo embassy do you think they are doing a good job at the moment
June 14, 2023 at 08:58
Not great, no. They are backlogged.
June 13, 2023 at 08:16
problemHi Brit,2023AF46XXX from Cameroon,I have been current since April but up to now,NO 2NL, what can be the problem sir, please help 🙏🙏
June 14, 2023 at 08:36
They are taking cases in order of when the cases became AV. Cameroon are somewhat backlogged, so all you can do is hope.
June 13, 2023 at 07:38
Hi brits,am from Nairobi and there is something I don’t understand.my case is already current and I contacted kcc and they told me that my ds260 is already processed.bt now I can see that some cases which are higher than my case have been scheduled and I am yet to be scheduled.what could be the problem.
June 14, 2023 at 08:26
Nairobi is limiting the number of interviews it takes and is taking them in the order that the cases qualified for interview. In some cases that means a higher number could have qualified before a lower number.
They will likely NOT interview all cases for DV2023 – many will be left without visas.
June 13, 2023 at 01:31
Why it is been afew days
June 10, 2023 at 16:19
Hi Brit,2023AF46XXX from Cameroon,I have been current since April but up to now,NO 2NL, what can be the problem sir, please help 🙏🙏
June 10, 2023 at 18:53
Hi Simon,
Is there any way to find out whether my DS260 is processed, or I should just wait for the 2NL?
My case was current for July but I haven’t received anything so far. My embassy is Sydney.
June 12, 2023 at 08:56
The only way to check is email KCC, but pretty much all DS260s are processed.
June 13, 2023 at 01:30
Hi Mr Simon,
The Xirustiathis does not show any data.
June 10, 2023 at 09:56
Dear Britsimon
Can you tell me highest case number for 2023AF
Thankyou
June 10, 2023 at 12:22
The highest case number selected is 2023AF63502 – and it is the ONLY case that is not current.
June 9, 2023 at 15:58
Hi Simon, many thanks for your precious efforts
I am a 2024 dv winner from Algeria and I am currently studying in Austria. when filing out my DS260 I choose the Algiers embassy, and I have heard that Kcc will send, automatically, the file to the embassy of the place of residence and because I am not sure about staying in Austria until the end of September 2024, I have no idea what I should do.
June 9, 2023 at 18:53
Considering your case number would be a good start. So – what range is it (with region)?
June 9, 2023 at 10:59
Hello Simon,
I’ve noticed that 2NL’s are released (or atleast this year), later in the day on Fridays. Is this coincidental or that’s how it is?
June 9, 2023 at 12:26
I haven’t studied that – I don’t think it is significant.
June 9, 2023 at 04:14
Hi Mr Simon,
I am current. But I still did not get 2NL. My Embasy is Pakistan. I should interview in July.
What should I do ?
June 9, 2023 at 12:20
Unfortunately Pakistan embassy is not giving enough interviews each month, so have become backlogged. I don’t know if they intend to try to clear the backlog in the last two months of scheduling. All you can do is wait and hope.
June 9, 2023 at 02:19
Hi Mr Simon,
I am current my interview will be in July but I still did not get my invitation yet. I am in Afghanistan. My interview is in Pakistan.
June 9, 2023 at 12:19
Unfortunately Pakistan embassy is not giving enough interviews each month, so have become backlogged. I don’t know if they intend to try to clear the backlog in the last two months of scheduling.
June 10, 2023 at 09:40
Hello Mr. Simon, first of all, thank you for your useful information. I won the 2023 lottery from Iran in Asia Case about 10,500, it has been available for about a month, but I have not received the second letter. My embassy is in Abu Dhabi. Is there any result if I change it?
June 10, 2023 at 12:21
You can’t easily change your embassy. AD are making some progress on the backlog, so you might get a chance.
June 10, 2023 at 12:43
Thank you,ls there any way to see Abu Dhabi backlog?
June 10, 2023 at 13:49
Watch the live video I just published as I cover that there.
