August 15, 2017 at 14:17
Hello Mr Brit, I’m from Gaza Strip, but based on the law and regulation I was suppose to submit under Egypt and I submitted my application 1st of July for DV2018 with case number 2018AF6xxx so I was wondering, how would my application go, I’m kinda feel I’ll take more time than usual, I kinda don’t understand the VB and the cut off part.
Thank you.
August 15, 2017 at 15:33
If you are charged to Egypt, you will have to wait until the number for Egypt on the VB is higher than your number. Right now it is 2350 for October, so you will wait some months.

August 15, 2017 at 14:36
Hellı brit, there is a lack of information about my job carrier which was just about 29 days in a company I want to write it down but I’m afraid it’s gonna cause delay my interview. Do you think that will cause or affect it ?
Second question is changing a major info in ds 260 could cause delaying on interview other than changing a few minor info such as adding additional address and job info as I stated above ?
Waiting for the help
Thanks
Case number 2018eu38xx
Resubmit June 2
August 15, 2017 at 15:30
You are over concerned about delay. You should be concerned about accuracy.
August 15, 2017 at 15:09
hello Brit, my wife and myself submitted Ds 260 form with all doc ready. now we are not able to complete all the money for Visa fees. can my wife go ahead for the interview as she is the principal applicant and get her visa to travel and i join her later after applying for my interview to be sit? pls comment Sir
August 15, 2017 at 15:28
That will make a simple process into a 2 year nightmare. I suggest saving for the fees if at all possible.
August 15, 2017 at 16:11
Hello Brit
1. I read the reciprocity page.Having stayed in China on student visa i require the police certificate.
I called the Chinese embassy in my home country to find out how they can facilitate in securing police certificate. Unfortunately they say cannot be of any help and that I contact the police department in China . It seems quite herculean to get this police report for the 3 year period I stayed there. Kindly advice, is there any other alternative for the police certificate from China?
2. I answered YES (for myself and derivatives) to the question in the DS260 relating to “Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law?”
Am I wrong to have answered YES? If so Whats your advice
Thank you
August 15, 2017 at 16:14
1. My only advice is to follow the reciprocity page instructions EXACTLY.
2. No is more accurate. But it doesn’t matter.
August 16, 2017 at 19:18

Hi Brit,
We have arrived to the US on the 14th of July, however my wife – the main DV applicant – did not receive the green card till now. Although, me and the kids have received ours two weeks ago.
Where should we check for her green card?
Thanks for your support
August 15, 2017 at 18:08
You could call USCIS.
September 1, 2017 at 21:34
Hi Brit,
So far, I have been in contact with the USCIS for the past couple of weeks; on the 25th of August they said that my wife’s card was shipped on the 15th and was delivered on the 19th and refused to provide a tracking number and the customer support advised that we should ask the neighbors if they got it by mistake, finally yesterday they gave me the USPS tracking number and after checking with the post office they confirmed it was delivered on the 19th of August (the post man have scanned the bar code on the envelope in front of our house) and advised to check with the neighbors as well.
September 1, 2017 at 21:35
I have checked with almost all neighbors with negative feedback.
What do you suggest to do, knowing that the USCIS advised today to apply for I-90 form (issue a replacement card)?
Please note that we need to fly back on the 7th of September.
Appreciate your support.
M.Faisal
September 1, 2017 at 22:31
So – they delivered the card. They have correct proof they delivered the card. You are probably going to have to request (and pay for) the card again.

Hello dear Simon,
I am DV 2018 selectee,
I have a question regarding TAL, should I be worried if I am working as a subcontractor on a cyber american based company?
I read that TAL is for high-tech workers and people who worked at cyber companies and such, but what if the company is actually an american company? I am a software developer.
What should I prepare to the interview to avoid any delays?
Thanks in advance!
August 15, 2017 at 18:23
Just to make it clear – I am not working in the USA, I work in the country where I live now which is of course not USA, it is just that I work for an american cyber high-tech company (also, I am not doing any cyber at all, just developing an app)
August 15, 2017 at 19:51
As a software developer, you should understand that your reference is ambiguous.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TAL
August 15, 2017 at 20:05
You’re right :), TAL = Technology Alert List (that might cause delays to high-tech employees), now with that clarification, what is your opinion regarding my question? 🙂
Working for a cyber company that its HQ is in USA and is basically an american company, and what properations can be made prior to the interview(maybe docs like CV).
I am also not directly employed but through subcontractor.
Thanks again!
August 15, 2017 at 21:25
I have not heard of delays on DV cases for that reason – but I suppose it is possible.
August 15, 2017 at 19:43
Hi! I applied to dv lottery from Europe but I live in an African country so I gave my address here. My case number 2018EU7xxx. My interview will be in Africa so should I follow European Visa bulletin or African Visa bulletin?
August 15, 2017 at 20:00
EU
August 15, 2017 at 20:13
Hi I’m a dv winner and my image for the edv entry is an old one I’ve grown fat now but I can prove beyond reasonable doubt that I’m the one in the image since my school certificate has a similar picture.
1. Can this ruin my chances even if I show this evidence to the consular
August 15, 2017 at 21:27
It depends how much you have changed. If the change is dramatic the CO could refuse you.
August 15, 2017 at 20:34
Hey Brit, I have a question related to the ‘sponsor’.
My wife (winner) has a very close girl-friend in USA wich already came forward as sponsor for her brother (dv2017 winner), so when she learned about my wifes winning asked a close friend in usa if could be our sponsor, and the guy promptly said yes, no problem (had done it years ago also).
Our concern is that the consular would not really like the fact that we have no relation with this sponsor at all.
Could that be a problem to us during the interview?
EU cn 12XXX.
August 15, 2017 at 21:29
Yes. If you have no relationship with this person, the obvious concern is why they would support you, a stranger, financially.
August 15, 2017 at 21:30
HELLO BRIT SIMON: I wanted to ask you about the green card sponsor, I have set the sponsor but I wanna know if I can change it in the interview. And I wanna know about this number 2018EU35000 *** how much time or months I have for Waiting. Thank you very much
August 15, 2017 at 21:34
Yes you can change at the interview.
You will wait until next summer.
August 16, 2017 at 00:29
Hi Simon
My baby was born in UK and has dual citizenship ( British by birth place and Polish by both parents).
Can i use British passport for the DS 260 form and whole Visa process , even though it’s not from the country of eligibility?
at the moment baby only has Polish ID card.
Thanks in advance.
August 16, 2017 at 00:48
Yes
August 16, 2017 at 08:54
Thanks a lot for your help.
Really helpful as I’m struggling to find any information about dual citizenship of dependant. It’s only for applicants..
August 16, 2017 at 22:14
Just one more question Simon. Is it written somewhere or based on your experience. i couldn’t find it anywhere and really confused .
August 16, 2017 at 23:02
Both.
August 16, 2017 at 01:29
Hello BritSimon,
This is the first time I have written to you. Since I discovered your website, I am really impressed by your analyzes.
I have just one question for you.
After sending the 2NLs for the month of October, can we really say that the process of processing the DS260 really changed? If so, how to explain that some people who are current have not received their second letter.
Thank you
August 16, 2017 at 01:40
I contacted KCC and yes it has changed.
Some won’t get the interviews because not all DS260’s process at the same speed.
For instance, just to illustrate the point – An accountant from Sweden who has never lived anywhere else, is easier to background check than someone from a Iran who has traveled in the middle East extensively working as a Nuclear Scientist. Common sense really.
August 16, 2017 at 02:40
Thank you very much for the time you take to respond to the messages. I do not spend a day without consulting your website. This is really a reference. I’ll tell you about my case another time
August 16, 2017 at 04:21
Thanks for taking a moment to say that…
August 16, 2017 at 03:58
Hello dear Simon, thank you so much for your useful information.
I am DV 2018 winner. I would like to ask a question, if it is possible please kindly response.
I have some one in the united state who want to fill affidavit of support for me, right know he dose not have enough money in the bank. although he has 3 houses in the united state. I mean he dose not have money in the bank and he invest all of money for buying the houses.
If he mentioned the value of his houses in affidavit of support, is it ok or it is important that he should have money in the bank. I am asking this question because the requirement of I-134 bank statement is need it but he dose not have money in the bank right now.
August 16, 2017 at 04:19
The money he has in the bank is unimportant. What matters is his income. Just that.

hi brit
Like 2018 interview dates are out can i request KCCDV for earlier date for interview since my case number is 2018OCXXX928 and for our region the cut off is 185.This is because my daughter will age out. Please need your suggestion
Thanks
August 16, 2017 at 04:18
No, you cannot be interviewed before your number is current. You are not entitled to an early interview for ANY reason. If your daughter ages out (after applying the protection of the CSPA), then she ages out. That is the law.
August 16, 2017 at 07:10
Hey Brit when will be the visa bulleting for November will start ? I mean when will the kcc post the cut number for the November ?
August 16, 2017 at 07:32
8th to the 15th
August 16, 2017 at 07:53
Dear Brit
A friend in the US agreed to write a welcome letter for me to use during my DV interview. I was wondering which type of questions I can anticipate as to the nature of our relationship and how best to answer them. Will they ask me very personal details about the host to show the nature of my relationship with the host?
August 16, 2017 at 15:23
They might – but since this is a friend, there should be no problem.
August 16, 2017 at 08:17
Case Number: 2018AF00014xxx
Principal Applicant Name: XXXX, XXX
Preference Category: DV DIVERSITY
Foreign State Chargeability: GHANA
Post: PARIS
Hi brit !
The above was part of the 1nl i received. Am full Ghanaian and havent been to Paris before. I read one of the comments here which the person chose Malaysia as place of interview but was given different place. Am scared it might happen to me though i selected Ghana as place of interview. Secondly base on my case number , do u think i might get interview on November since i submitted the ds260 form on 26 May.
August 16, 2017 at 15:20
If your current address is in Ghana, you’ll get Ghana.
AS for when – wait and see.
August 16, 2017 at 09:04
Hello simon !
What relationship should i have with the sponsor ?
Thanks in advance
August 16, 2017 at 09:16
Dear Brit,
My brother from NEPAL is DV winner of 2018, he along with is spouse stays in australia since last 2 years in student visa, my brother has applied EDV from australia, while applying they have selected country of chargibility mistakenly as Australia instead of Nepal however all other information has been inputed correctly, His number for DS-260 was 2018OCXX instead of 2018ASXX, what is the chances of visa approval in this case, He along with his spouse’s family are not passport holder or PR in Australia.
August 16, 2017 at 09:35
DEAR BRIT.
i’m from djibouti resident in china and i got selected for dv2108 and i didn’t get any notifications yet but for some reasons i’m planning to go back djibouti so i’m wondering if they can accept me there instead of china because i’m suppose to take the interview in china?
August 16, 2017 at 15:26
Unlock your DS260, change the address and after resubmission send an email to KCC asking to change the embassy.
August 16, 2017 at 09:53
Dear Brit! If my sponsor has income of $6,000 per month is it enough to be a sponsor for a family of four?dérivative and 3 members? Or i should look for a new sponsor to fill affidavit form
August 16, 2017 at 15:04
That is enough.
August 16, 2017 at 12:17

2-Is the welcome letter related to this issue?
Thanks a lot
August 16, 2017 at 15:24
1. No
2. No
August 16, 2017 at 15:26
That’s great 🙂
Thank you sir
August 16, 2017 at 15:37
Hi Brit!
Thanks for the wealth of info. Its made the journey a lot less daunting!
I won the 2018 draw through using cross chargebility – So I am aware that both Myself (principle) and my wife now have to meet all requirements. (we can’t meet the work ones so are both going for the education ones)
The tricky part – I have high school and a Bachelors degree (so no problem) but my wife does not have high school, but DOES have a Bachelors degree.
I have read what you mentioned about this being a “grey area” and wanted to mention something about it as well as ask a question –
The question is – have you encountered anyone who has actually been granted their visa despite only having a bachelors degree and NOT high school?
I had a casual email exchange with a nice immigration lawyer (He helped a friend get work visas and move) who said basically that as long as you have one or the other, you ARE fine.
Just thought I would mention what the lawyer told me in case you or anyone else here find that information helpful.
Thanks again for the site!
August 16, 2017 at 22:12
The lawyer probably doesn’t know what he/she is talking about. The reality is that there is a risk – the grey area. The only way to know for sure is at the interview.
August 17, 2017 at 08:25
To the interview we go! Thanks for the reply 🙂
August 16, 2017 at 17:08
Hi, a DVL selectee from Iran. The interview got canceled due to the travel ban and no new interview get scheduled. Time running out and neither consulate nor KCC respond.
I need immediate help please.
August 16, 2017 at 22:07
KCC will have passed your case to the embassy. So – there is nothing that KCC can do. So – you must speak to the embassy.
Under the terms of the travel ban, you should still be interviewed. If you have a bone fide relationship with someone in the USA, you could be granted a visa. However, you should understand this. Even if you are interviewed, as an Iranian you are highly likely to be put on AP for additional background checks after the interview. Those checks take around 5 months for Iranians – and there is not enough time to get those checks completed. That means that you will probably not get your visa and your medical and interview fees will not be refunded. So think carefully whether you want to take that risk.
August 16, 2017 at 17:44
hey there dear Brit
i just received an email from U.S embassy in Yerevan where i got interviewed on 25th of May. under the title “Executive Order Exemption”
here is the whole detail :
Dear applicant,
Please be informed that the administrative processing on your file has been completed. However, some of your documents may have expired. Please check that your medical examinations are still valid. Please submit these updated documents along with two new photos (5×5) and any listed in the 221(g) Additional Information sheet.
The Executive Order provides exemptions for individuals who are able to demonstrate a bona fide relationship to an individual, academic institution, or employment in the United States and who are otherwise qualified for the visa category for which they have applied. Individuals exempt from the E.O. may be issued a visa if all other requirements are met. Bona fide family relationships are restricted to close family members, to include a parent (including parent-in-law), spouse, fiancé(e), child, adult son or daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sibling, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces, and first cousins. For all relationships, half or step status is included.
If you have already been found eligible for a visa and have a qualifying relationship, please send the shenasnameh for yourself and your qualifying relative(s).
ATTENTION: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN A VISA BE ISSUED OR AN ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS OCCUR IN YOUR CASE AFTER SEPTEMBER 30, 2017.
VERY IMPORTANT: BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED NUMBER OF VISAS THAT MAY BE ISSUED UNDER THIS PROGRAM, VISAS MAY CEASE TO BE AVAILABLE EVEN BEFORE THIS DATE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE THE CLOSER TO SEPTEMBER 30 AN APPLICATION OR RE-APPLICATION IS MADE.
Sincerely,

Hello Simon,
I hope you’re doing fine… I’m helping my cousin filling up the form DS260 (He is petitioning his father to come to the US). After completing all the information, I go to review section, and then Preparer’s information.
On the preparer’s information part, it was already filled up with information (his case was filed up since few years ago), and that we need to make a change, but there is no edit button on the part.
Is that possible to edit Preparer’s information as now it is not the previous attorney who filled up the form?
Thank you so much Simon,
Gold iSak
August 16, 2017 at 21:22
Hi Simon,
Apparently, I could edit it now…
THe problem is that i haven’t clicked on button “Sign and Submit” yet…
After I tried, i could make a change on Preparer’s part…
My bad…
THank you SImon,

I am a DV 2018 selectee, also Spanish like your wife and also have a Brit husband in the software industry who would hopefully be moving with me should everything go according to plan.
Apologies if you have discussed this before but I have not been able to find this information elsewhere on your site. My question is around finding employment once you move to the US. I am likely to be transferred by my current employer but my husband might struggle. Any tips or posts I could read? What would the best approach be?
Thanks a million.

The software industry is very active. Most experienced software engineers will not have a problem finding work. Since your job will determine where you locate – your husband can find suitable work in that region. It really isn’t worth trying to line up a job before the move – employers want to know you are in the area. Plus if you transfer (and start work immediately) you husband will have tons of things to do to get established anyway – so he can be looking for a job at the same time.

Hello,
I am a DV 2017 winner, case 2017EU26xxx. I am on H1B visa currently, residing in Lon Angeles and therefore doing the AoS process. I became current in April, submitted all of the documents in May, received submission acceptance May 16th, got scheduled for bio-metrics and last thing that happened is that I have completed bio-metrics appointment June 22nd. No change of case statuses online since, and have not received any letters since. Do you have any idea when should I expect the invitation letter for an interview? I am in Los Angeles area, and I emailed KCC yesterday for the status update. I am starting to get anxious. Any advise and help would be more than appreciated!
Thank you!

KCC won’t know ANYTHING about your case. That is not how it works. Your case is at a field office (FO). You need to make an infopass appointment at that FO – and prepare for that infopass. There is an infopass checklist on my FAQ. Read that.

Hello Aleksandra, I will be doing AOS as well and would like to know how your process goes. Can we communicate by email?
Thank you.

Hello Brits, warm regards. Am a dv 2018 winner. My son’s passport came out with an error. He was given a wrong date of birth. I wrote and u advised me to use my passport info against him for the meantime, while waiting to make the correction.
I successfully submitted my form and dat of other derivatives but when it came to his turn, de submission did not go despite several attempts. I kept getting a reply that the passport information does not match with that earlier provided when it’s thesame info.
1) Can i use his info in the present passport for the meantime in filling the form while hoping to unlock and correct when the right one comes out?
2) If by the time i want to unlock when KKC is already processing and it’s impossible. Will that be a problem? How will i handle the situation then?
Tnks in advance Mr Brits for ur usual prompt response.

Read this.

Tnks Brits. But my issue is not about the case number. I talked of the passport number.
It’s surprising because it is the same passport number i used at the beginning which i entered when about to submit. So i wonder why i keep getting an info that the passport number does not match when i had earlier used it to complete and submit my own form.
That was why i sought to know from u whether i could use his info on the present passport and submit while waiting for the new one.
Sorry u didn’t understand me as the problem is not about case number but passport number. I had no problem submitting my own form wit the passport infos. However, but now having it when using same passport info to submit for my son.
Thanks

Other people have done that – so I think you should try again and careful note what exactly is the message.

Simon please help me with a doubt I have: I have made several trips as a tourist to USA. In 2004 I spent 5 months there, having permission to stay for 6 months, I went the following year for 5 days and then I made another trip for 15 days. Do you think that for having stayed 5 months in 2004 could affect me in the interview?
