hi
i have hypothetical questions please. If someone is issued a visa and the envelope is given to him, he has 6 months before the visa expires, my questions:
1- can he do anything before the 6 months period passes to extend or what can he do?
2- if he did not go will his visa be revoked?and if so will it be available for someone else in the 2017 dv? i mean like the cases wrote to u earlier and they were out of visas is it possible to call them up after sep and tell them there is one available?
thanks
September 13, 2017 at 14:34
1. No extension is possible.
2. No, it would be wasted.

Dear mr Simon, I entered USA 2 year ago and got green card. I was one of the Diversity Visa Lottery winners of 2015. But I just worried a lot and couldn’t sleep well since I came to USA for something that i did a mistake on my original entry of DV that didn’t include my only one child born from unmarried girlfriend . The child was born without marriage. And because of many complicated reasons such as we never live together in same country and have been living separately for more than 6 years, I never seen them for almost about 6 years and not had any single photograph to attach on the initial entry. Generally we never meet and seen each other for those six years . But now last week, I got a message about their whereabouts after my brother searching for them for long time went to the very remote village where there is no any means of communication system like most of African Villages. Dear Sir now i thinking to marry her legally and want to start processing for them, my son is now 8, even though it might have a great risk and may take long time.
September 13, 2017 at 15:21
The risk is your deportation since you fraudulently acquired your Green Card.
September 13, 2017 at 16:38
Dear sir
but you Can’t call it a fraud. Fraud is a criminal activity to get money illegally and / or for personal gain. All my documents are original and never cheated . I never did a fraud . We are human and make a mistake and I couldn’t include him on my da260 form bcoz it’s clearly mentioned that not listing on the original entry and filled on the ds260 is automatically denial of a visa during interview. But remember it only said during the visa denial during interview. Nothing is mentioned anyolace that I will be deported if I request for my son after processing and waiting long time. It’s a lottery selecting from millions.
Thanks
September 13, 2017 at 16:44
Utter nonsense. The forms (eDV and DS260) make it clear you are to add your children. You had TWO opportunities to tell the truth. Then you sat through the interview and lied by saying nothing about your son. You lied all that time, you know you did. You did it to get a GC. That is clearly immigration fraud. There is no other way to describe it.
Maybe you think I am being harsh – but I am just telling you how it is. Telling the truth is not optional.
September 13, 2017 at 16:48
So your brother found this woman a week ago, that you now want to marry after not seeing her for 6 years. Are you in the USA now?
September 13, 2017 at 18:51
“So your brother found this woman a week ago, that you now want to marry after not seeing her for 6 years. Are you in the USA now?”
Yes sir.but right now I just came back to my home country to see my son accordingly after long time. I am going to marry her after 6 years because have no option . i want my son to be with me and the reason why that time we separated was just because we had nothing to support our life . We were very poor. Life in Africa is such a very miserable to support a family especially if you don’t have any job. she had left me together with my son to her parents place /village before I left my country to search for a job . Sir if you ever been in Africa, you would understand my pain. I just did a mistake and truly I know that . That’s why I never have a good sleep since I came USA. To the worst I already had sold everything what I had before I entered USA. I have no future if they deport me for this reason. I am really in shock and trouble now. I wish my son to come to me to attend a good school daily to succeed for his future life.
September 13, 2017 at 18:56
Well here is the thing. Your story makes sense – but does not alter the fact that you deliberately lied. The law is unforgiving. You are in very difficult position – but it is of your own decisions.
So – you can talk to a lawyer of course – but you will be taking a big risk. Nothing I say will make that risk better or worse.
September 13, 2017 at 19:11
Thank you mr Simon . I will try and know god will help me . I will tell you my final condition whether good or not. Good bless you sir. Be blessed always.
September 13, 2017 at 14:42
Sir A) . Do you think it is possible to fixes this issue? According to whats in my heart, i never committed a fraud to get a green card while leave him ignored not including on the initial entry , i just had a very difficult situation ?
B). Can i hire and discuss this with a lawyer if there is any hope according to your knowledge ?
I am just crying and praying to God to fix it.
Stay Blessed and pray for me please
September 13, 2017 at 15:25
A. Lying on immigration forms is fraud. You knew you were lying. But you wanted the Green Card, so yes – you DID commit fraud to get the Green Card, and you knew it.
B. You can hire a lawyer if you wish. They love to earn money from cases like this. I don’t think the outcome will change though if you tell the truth.
September 13, 2017 at 15:17
Hello Brit,
Just have some little worry. I earlier wrote to you about the problem of names before i filled my ds260 but its still a worry.
1. My name is Julius Ohanza, Julius (given name) and Ohanza (surname). from my edv i had to write Ohanza(surname) and Julis as the given name. But printing the 1NL my name appear Ohanza, Julius. after filling the ds260, my confirmation shows Ohanza,Julius. I am really worried about this since my order of names on my documents is Ohanza Julius but on the 1NL and Confirmation form it appears Ohanza, Julius. Will this difference have an effect on my application for visa. Please i count on your frankness as usual.
Thanks
September 13, 2017 at 15:27
The name format on the 1NL is <>, which matches what you said.
September 13, 2017 at 16:44
Two weeks back ,some one from Iran posted a message he got it from his embassy ,in that message he has been asked to proof bonafide relationship .But tody i have imformed that some peole have been interviewed without such question ,my question is , what is going on with peole from those 6 cuontries (affected by the traval ban )?
September 13, 2017 at 16:57
People under the ban need to demonstrate a relationship to a US based family member or entity.

Hi Brit
Wife is principal applicant. She has degree & post-grad, but no high-school (home-schooled). As such, she’s looking to qualify based on skilled work experience (SVP Range 7.0 to < 8.0).
Aiming for a portfolio including:
– Role & description of duties
– Aligned ONET Job spec
– Affidavit from company directors
– Affidavit from senior colleague
– Affidavit from previous employer
– Relevant short course certificate
Anything you'd consider adding to the above?
September 13, 2017 at 16:56
Salary/earnings level.
And some pixie dust.
September 13, 2017 at 17:00
Hi brit my case number is current on october bulletin for eu. But i resubmitted my ds form amid august. The changes were a)living adress of my spouse and additional work info of mine. Do you think those changes would cause any delay on my case ?
September 13, 2017 at 17:24
Wait and see.
September 13, 2017 at 18:42
hello Brit, hope you are doing fine. i still have some worries after filling the ds260 form.
1. my name is Shella Eboue. when i receive my 1NL, it read “Dear Shella Eboue” but at the bottom my name is written “Eboue, Shella”. After filling the Ds260 form my name still came out as “Eboue, Shella”. this format above is also on my confirmation. this order of name is different with that on all my personal documents which is “Shella Eboue”(name as of birth certificate and orhers). Could this change of order pose a problem?
2. From all indication it is surely because my first name “Shella” is my given name. Would i need an attestation of names to show that “Shella Eboue” and “Eboue Shella” is the same person?
3. Should i unlock the ds260 form to put my surname as ” Shella Eboue” to conform with the other documents? Although the 1NL will still be different. kindly advice me on what to do please. thanks
September 13, 2017 at 19:00
1. No problem. The comma indicates they are listing your name as lastname, firstname
2. No
3. Don’t change anything – it is already correct.
September 13, 2017 at 18:45
Hello brit thanx in advance a friend of mine has a problem he is Afdv2017 he filled ds260 late he passed the interview this monday his visa Is approved but he is under administrative check , it takes up to 1 month but the deadline of 30sept is near so is he in any danger of not getting his visa or the deadline wont touch him now that his visa is approved
September 13, 2017 at 18:58
He is only safe once the visa is in his hand.
September 13, 2017 at 18:45
Dear Brit Simon, greetings. How would you best answer the question for wanting to live and work in the Unites States?
September 13, 2017 at 18:57
My answer is my answer – you must give your own. The truth always works.
September 13, 2017 at 20:41
Hi Brit
I have a doubt, I am a winner of the DV2018, for the region of SA, according to my case number, I estimate that my interview will be scheduled from April 2018, and I already sent my request DS260 to the KCC, however, now I have just received an offer of job in another country.
my doubt is if I will accept this new job, that would affect my DS 260, in view that I should change my residence address and my work information, additionally my wife and daughter stay in our country of origin, which you recommend.
The interview will be scheduled in which of the two countries, since I will be in one country and my wife in another. The KCC can not see with an evil eye that my family is separated?
Wife is principal applicant.
September 13, 2017 at 22:10
The interview will be held in your wife’s country. You will need to be there. The work shouldn’t be a problem.
September 14, 2017 at 00:15
But I must make changes to my work and home address in my application DS-260
now if my wife and daughter are going to live with me to the new country, what should I do
September 14, 2017 at 02:46
Change the DS260s once they move.
September 13, 2017 at 21:49
Hi BritSimon,
I plan to marry about jan/Feb and also I guess at this time I will become current. From october till Christmas I go with my fiance to work abroad. Then we come back to home country and want to go together for an interview.
I submitted single ds 260 early May. Can I request opening it at the beginning of Oct because of address change, and leave it open for few months till I get marry, then add wife, and submit once we will be married? Wont it be suspicious for KCC that I reopen ds 260 and left it for Such a long time? EU9XXX, What do you suggest to solve this situation?
Many thanks
September 13, 2017 at 22:23
You unlocking your form won’t stop them scheduling your interview. So – you need to hurry up and get married immediately.
September 13, 2017 at 22:56
Ok, thanks, so just to confirm – they are scheduling for interview cases with ds 260 once submitted, then reopen and never submitted again?
September 14, 2017 at 02:44
No – that is not correct. Unlocking doesn’t normally affect anything
September 14, 2017 at 03:23

We do not have 25 thousand dollars, at best we will have 10-12 thousand dollars before leaving, I can show job listings for my work and show my portfolio, I will say that I am ready for any job. How else can I prove that I will not use welfare? Thank you very match!
September 14, 2017 at 13:03
It depends on the embassy, but should should realize that money is not a large amount, so you will need to get incomes asap.

September 14, 2017 at 16:20
This is the 4th question TODAY from you and the 40th in the last month – all of which are answered if you bother to read the FAQ.
I’m fed up with you just asking questions that pop into your head without bothering to read any of the articles I have asked you to read.
I have warned you. I’m done. No more.
September 14, 2017 at 16:24

Thanks for you answer Brit. Do you Know until what number of case was called for DV2017 in the SA region?
September 15, 2017 at 02:09
2017SA1958
September 15, 2017 at 02:33
Sorry but. Do you Know until what number of case was called for DV2016 in the SA region?
Thx
September 15, 2017 at 04:56
Not off the top of my head. But every year is different, especially since there is a new country now in SA – so you can’t gauge anything from 2016 numbers.
September 14, 2017 at 18:15
Hi britsimon. Thanks for ur huge support in the field of edv lottery. I appreciate your help and support. If u have some time by chance, i have one scenario over here.
A person won edv lottery but he/she was already been filed petition for green card from his/her parents. The person is over 21 and you better know it takes longer to get green card through parents. Luckly the person won dv lottery and now going to be current in some months.
1. So does that petition filed by parents causes problem to his/her edv process. He /she had already a case pending (petition filed by parents) before edv.
2. Or does he/she need to withdraw the previous petition filed by parents?
3. Or the person should not process edv lottery and wait for previous pending case.?
Thanks in advance.
September 15, 2017 at 02:11
This person should consult their lawyer. I am not a lawyer so I will not address the family case.
1. A person can have two petitions running
2. Not to my knowledge.
3. Their call.
September 14, 2017 at 20:25
I am winner of dv lottery 2017 from Yemen and now i am infect by trump order and the visa will be end on 30 September.
What do you thing we will get a visa or not ?
September 15, 2017 at 02:13

Hello Simon,
During the Interview, can the CO approve the visas, based only in a Valid I-134 Form
together with proof of Assets (I’m owner of 2 Apartments that cost about 80000 $, one Car).
But I don’t have 25000 $ in Deposit Bank
(For Me, my wife an a little child)
I’m asking for the Tirana Embassy
Thanks a lot
September 14, 2017 at 22:47
hello brit
how do i check my interview status. after filling the ds260 form
September 15, 2017 at 04:44
You don’t you just wait.
September 15, 2017 at 02:20
Tirana will want to see an I-134 filled out by someone in the USA.
September 14, 2017 at 22:57
Hello Brit, I got recently a vrdl positive, if I will receive the respective treatment taking care of the illness before going to the medical and I explain this to the physician at the medical interview, Could this be a problem o deny my process of DV 2018? Thank you for your answer.
September 15, 2017 at 04:50
I’m not a doctor, but I assume that if it is treated you should be OK.
September 15, 2017 at 01:31
Hi Brit
I just wanted to ask about the change of address
In July when i entered the US i gave another new address at the airport where i’m going to stay different from the one on the DS260(like i changed the address) but in some few days ago when i check my Ds260 still showing the same old address.
1. Was wondering how it didn’t change
2. Where do i have to change my addresses when i’m moving to another state or new place
3. Do i have to unlock my Ds260 and change?
4. My temporary visa for 6 months is going to expire in November. how do i renew it?
September 15, 2017 at 04:54
1. They probably don’t change the application form.
2. Google USCIS change of address.
3. No.
4. You don’t. It is now endorsed – so it is good for 12 months after entry. By then, you will have your GC.
September 15, 2017 at 15:08
ok Thanks a lot
But i would like to travel to Belgium where it require a Visa and my GreenCard is out yet. what do i do?
September 15, 2017 at 16:51
The GC does not give you access to other countries – it is only for the USA. So – use your passport and obtain a visa for Belgium if needed.
September 15, 2017 at 02:50
Hi brit.
1. If in my initial DV lottery application i filled highest level of education as high school diploma, should i do the same for my DS260 form though i have attended college?
2. I need to be sure please. I want to qualify through the simplest route of ‘high school education. ‘ please advice. Be blessed.
September 15, 2017 at 04:57
1. Tell the truth. It’s that easy.
2. Isn’t a question.
September 15, 2017 at 11:05
Hi Brit I’m from Ghana
I made mistake with the spelling of my dads name in the DS 260 but I applied as a single applicant
Is it a big deal?
September 15, 2017 at 13:30
No
September 15, 2017 at 11:07
Hi abrir how are you! Finally yesterday, we went to the interview, we are 4 people but the official only received 3 files. we interviewed the 3 all was well, check in FBI all good but since last Friday there were changes in the lottery, but he did not approve the cases yesterday. but said he’s going to discuss our case with a superior to see what he could achieve. in the case of the missing file he would request it and upon receiving it I would call the interview to the other member of my family. I have high hopes since everything was delayed by errors that they committed with our documents. The officer was quite receptive and showed some hope. we trust in God that everything will turn out well.
September 15, 2017 at 13:27
Let me know what happens. Other AoS cases (several people) have been told there are no more visas. 🙁
September 15, 2017 at 13:43
Yes, sure!!! You Know what; the official said something about that but the good news for us is he didn’t said: are not aproved in the moment. he called me last Saturday and he did know in that day that dv lollety had changes i suppose is about the cut off of visas. i was there on saturday by infopass appoinment before he called me and they told me my files was on transit since last friday but the official said at the interview that files had recieved on tuesday last week so when i was there on saturday they already gotten the files. so rare
September 15, 2017 at 13:44
I hope it works out for you…
September 15, 2017 at 14:12
Amen!
September 15, 2017 at 11:16
I really want to know how ppl got to win a green card and on what web page they entered as I have been entering since 2001 on the official web page through the government where you don’t pay a fee. I’m in South Africa. What am I doing incorrectly for not receiving my visa? What must I do? The first time I applied was back when I was in the US and my work visa exp, thus I had to come back and have been trying to get back the correct way, but nobody is willing to assist. If you could inform me, pls
September 15, 2017 at 13:26
It’s a lottery. The chance of winning is once in every 200 years of applying. So – this shouldn’t be something you plan around. ONLY use the official site.
September 15, 2017 at 11:47
Hi brits.my husband works under a company abroad.does he need to produce apolice certificate ?
Is recommendation from the company enough?

Hello Brit,
Im a winner of DV2018. I submitted my DS260 in June 2017. However, since this time there was a change in my job. From October 2017 I will work in a new position in my current company (i don’t change my empoyer). Do you think it is necessary to unlock and make changes in DS260?
Thank you!

Hi BritSimons,
Preamble: DV 2018 Selectee, AF Region, Country: Ghana
I have a university degree which had a different training institution from the awarding institution. On my certificate the the awarding institution clearly states the institution of training. However, the name of the training institution has changed since graduation and the transcript bears the new name.
1. Would this present a new layer of risk for my case?
2. How can I adequately prepare to defend this? Is it with additional documents or words would just be enough?
September 15, 2017 at 13:46
1, Maybe.
2. You may meet the requirement with High school. Other than that, I don’t know. Use your own judgement.
September 15, 2017 at 13:55
I stated in DS 260 under name of institution as OLD NAME – NEW NAME. Actually, when you search in the national accreditation boards database with the old name, the new name is what is presented.

@Cogxwell, don’t sweat it_u talking about the change from Polytechnic to Technical University_nothing gonna happen….same certificate.
September 15, 2017 at 14:36
Nope, I attended a private university college whose name has changed, but to which the awarding body (an accredited public university) referred to an old name. So my Degree bears the old name whiles the transcript bears the new name. It has nothing to do with polytechnic
September 15, 2017 at 14:43
Ok @Cogxwell_then it good you used your judgement with that…you can explain to the CO during your interview…but don’t worry it won’t cause anything
September 15, 2017 at 14:26
I have stated Name of Institution in DS 260 as New Name – Old name. Does this help?
September 15, 2017 at 14:38
@Cogxwell, it wasn’t neccessary since they know that there is a change from Polytechnic to technical University_so don’t worry..every information entered should have the same on all certificates

Hi Simon. I andy two kids are winners of dv2018, can 4xxx and current for November interview. But I submitted my ds260 only due to sponsor/ affidavit support problem. And the kids are incomplete still. So I planned to make our interview separately by assuming the kids case can continue after 6-8 months I entered in USA. Up to that they will wait with their mother and I comeback after activate my visa.
What do you think? Is it possible? Can we interview separately? Or what can I do brother ? Thank you
September 15, 2017 at 14:02
Your plan won’t work. UNLOCK NOW, and add the children. If you don’t process with the children it will take around 2 yeasrs after you enter the USA to sponsor the children.

Hi.On my ds-260 page i have next information:
Summary Information
Before we can process your Diversity Visa application, each applicant in your case must complete Form DS-260, the Online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application. To access the online form, click on the link to the right of an applicant’s name below, under the “IV Application” heading.
If a person in your family is not listed below, click the “Add Applicant” button to add him or her. Derivative applicants for the DV program include spouses or children under the age of 21 who meet the requirements of U.S. immigration law. Filling out an application does not guarantee that an individual will qualify as a derivative in your case. This can only be decided by a consular officer at your visa interview.
If you have any questions, please contact the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) by email ([email protected]) or by phone (Public Inquiry Phone Number 606-526-7500 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT Monday – Friday).
What does it mean? Im the only applicant….
September 15, 2017 at 14:24
If you are the only applicant – just ignore that message.

Hi Simon, I am a dv2018 winner. As between 1996 and 1997 I lived for 14 months in US, should I get a police certificate from there as well? I am asking you this because if I am not wrong you already said that for the time spent in US we the winners of dvlottery don’t have to produce this certificate, but I am maybe wrong.
Thanks for letting me know.
September 15, 2017 at 15:08
No police cert for USA.

Hy Brit,
Please,I am a DV2017 & DV2018 winner,I had my interview for 2017 win but the consular officer was unable to determine my identity due to another win which was registered by someone without my knowing with difference with my date of birth and place of birth,I got to know on my interview day,The difference are as follows;
DV2017
Name:Appiah, Jerry Jay
Date of Birth:10/02/1990
Place of Birth:London Town
DV2018
Name: Appiah, Jerry Jay
Date of Birth:08/02/1990
Place of Birth:Israel
Please,my question is can I proceed with the DV2018 with my correct details which I used for DV2017 win to fill my Ds260 since I registered that draw on my own and that is my true identity.During my interview the consular officer asked me if I had any documents older to prove my true identity for my Visa because I am on A.P now
Please, kindly help me with your advice either to proceed with the DV2018 and if so will the consular section determine my identity if I present more supporting documents on my true identity (DV2017 win)and have my Visa approved.
Thank you.

DV2017 visas have run out. So – that isn’t an option.
You say the 2018 case was registered without you knowing and you only just found out the details/differences when the CO pointed out the 2nd case when you attended your DV2017 interview – right??
But you describe yourself as a 2017 and 2018 winner, and you are asking about whether it is safe to process the 2018 win (that you previously had no knowledge of). Do you think I am stupid? Do you think the COs are stupid?
