Hi,
I had my interview for DV on 6-Feb and I got 221g form which requires extra administrative processing for my case.
Do we know an average response time? They say it may take several weeks or months.
I had interview in Amsterdam.
Thanks
February 17, 2018 at 00:41
There is no “average”. It varies.
February 24, 2018 at 01:34
Hi,
I had my interview for DV on 7-Feb and I got 221g form which requires extra administrative processing for my case. Everyday waiting for a call and also check my case status daily still under administrative processing until today moved to refused. What means that. What my next steps. Please I need your help
February 24, 2018 at 03:58
That means your case has been refused for some reason. There is no appeal process. The decision will not be reversed.
February 24, 2018 at 13:51
I still have right to send a letter of reconsideration to know ?.
February 24, 2018 at 14:46
You can do that if you wish.
February 16, 2018 at 22:32
Why Africa’s publication numbers are slow this year
February 17, 2018 at 00:41
I have explained that in several previous articles. Please take some time to read them.
February 17, 2018 at 02:25

February 17, 2018 at 06:35

February 17, 2018 at 06:37
That is normal in most embassies. Nepal has been very lenient up to now.
February 17, 2018 at 06:21
I am Syrian living in Sudan and I specified the location of the interview in Khartoum Sudan.
Now I entered my ds260 form and find that my case is currently at Cairo, I didn’t receive my 2NL yet.
I emailed kcc about this issue
Can I do any thing at this moment?
February 17, 2018 at 06:38
No – just wait.
February 17, 2018 at 08:52
I attended my interview on the 13 November in Ghana alone though my wife is a beneficiary,on the Ds 260 forms I stated she will come later,in the course of the interview the CO realised I have stayed in another country for 8 months hence asked me to get a police report from that country which I did after a month.I took the police clearance to the appropriate quarters as directed by the embassy.after two weeks of delivery,I got a call from the embassy asking that I get them a police clearance from the country asked and come with my wife but before that I should fill another form for my wife,I told the caller that I took the document asked to the office last two weeks and on the Ds 260 too I stated my wife will join later.I sent the new docs on the 21st December and the attendant gave me website to create an account and I did,two weeks later I was there again and she told the visa hasn’t come and I should use ceac to check and till date it’s always at administrative process.Mr brit I want to find out from you if
1.I should still take my wife to the embassy though I stated later in the forms
2.will it be appropriate to call the embassy to know what is happening
3.For how long should I wait for the administrative process to change to issued
4.for how long will it take a beneficiary to join in the state.thank you Mr Brit
February 17, 2018 at 14:35
1. Do as the embassy tells you.
2. Yes, although they may just say “wait”.
3. It varies – I cannot predict it.
4. If it is not through DV – around 2 years.

Ababu Hagos
Hello, I have been given the Visa already, but there is one problem with my birth city. The birth city in the immigrant data summary is different from the birth city in my passport. The birth city in my passport and the birth city in my DS-260 form is the same .what am I going to do with it?
February 17, 2018 at 14:43
Doesn’t matter.
February 17, 2018 at 15:58
Please for how long a dv beneficiary take to join in the state
February 17, 2018 at 18:37
Like I answered before – at least 2 years.
February 17, 2018 at 18:40

I am Ernest, from Liberia.
This is my case # 38131, I not send in any D’s 260 yet but I have my wife, my son who play with me and my setp son never play with me

So that the CO can have problem with us?
Thank you
February 17, 2018 at 18:44
Atre you saying you did not list your step son in the original entry? Were you already married before the entry?
February 17, 2018 at 20:19
I am from Nepal and My case number is 51** I want to unlock my ds260..will it cause delay in getting second letter??
February 17, 2018 at 21:17
No.
February 18, 2018 at 02:49
I want to unlock it because my sponsor is my uncle and he is currently living in Virginia and I want to stay with him(if I get the visa)…and I mistakenly fill some other place name in ds260 where I would like to receive my green card…so what should I do?? Is it really important to unlock it??
February 18, 2018 at 05:00
It is up to you. The address given is where the GC will be sent.
February 18, 2018 at 08:46

February 17, 2018 at 22:23
Hi Britsimon – my wife and I were selected in the DV lottery Oceana region and our case number is 20xx. Looking at the historical data the case numbers have never gone higher than 1600 for Oceana. Does that mean we likely have zero chance of getting to stage 2?
February 17, 2018 at 23:01
Pretty much, yes. I can think of NO reason why cases at your level would get an interview.
February 17, 2018 at 23:05
Hello,i have a us tourist visa still valid ,do i need to submit it during my dv lottery interview?Thank you
February 18, 2018 at 02:12

February 18, 2018 at 09:33
Hello Brit
Thanks so much for your continuous guidance. I have been reading questions and your comments every single day and I bet you they are all spot on.
Brit if you can recall, I asked about police certificate around August 2017 and I followed all the directions you gave. I have the police certificates from China where I stayed for about 3 years and some months
The Chinese gave me police certificate for my first stint which is from 2009 to 2012 when I studied for my Master Degree but did not gave any for my second stint August 2013-January 2014 (Approx. 5 months) by which time I was offered PHD but abandoned because I was offered a job back in my country.
The question: Is this going to cause any problem? I have been scheduled for interview in March
BTW, I have been following all your instructions and I believe its gonna be well
Thanks in advance
February 18, 2018 at 16:21
No problem. I’m sure the interview will be uneventful.
February 18, 2018 at 10:38
I am a Greek-Australian.
I have a birth certificate that only shows my mothers name, it does not show my fathers name. He was never put on the birth certifcate. Will this cause any issues with my Green Card interview in Sydney?
If this were to cause an issue, I do have a document showing that I gave a power of attorney to handle my fathers estate when he passed a couple of years ago to his wife which indicates that he is indeed my father and the document also states my mothers name. It is a legal document that is translated from Greek into English. Would this suffice? My police record from Greece shows my parents name as well as an additional measure; though would that also help in case the missing name of my father on my birth certificate were to cause problems during the visa interview?
February 18, 2018 at 16:19
As long as the birth cert you have is the “long form” type that has space to show both parents names, then that is fine. The parentage is only important for sponsorship later.
I assume you have a regional number that corresponds with your country of birth – right?
February 21, 2018 at 09:29
Regional Number? I have an Australian birth certificate with the relevant rego numbers on it, and it has space for both my parents; just that my father has a ‘dash’ in the relevant area. My mothers name is there however.
I do have a legal document in Greece that shows that I had to handle my fathers deceased estate that lists both my parents names – I guess I could use that if any questions were raised about my missing fathers name using that translated legal document?
February 21, 2018 at 15:07
I was askinhg about your DV lottery number. 2018EUXXX or 2018OCXXX
February 21, 2018 at 22:58
2018OCXXX 🙂
February 21, 2018 at 23:00
The DV rego number starts with 2018OC…
February 21, 2018 at 23:03
Good – that matches your place of birth – so you didn’t make a mistake.
February 21, 2018 at 23:40
Cheers mate! appreciated. Keep up the awesome work!
February 18, 2018 at 11:16
Hello sir, my wife is the principal applicant and I and our children are derivatives.
1- If we go for the interview and get our visas and sealed envelopes, is it in any way possible for me, derivative, to travel first before my wife, principal appl, and children follow before their visas expire?
2- AF4681X – is our number risky or normal?
February 18, 2018 at 16:16
1. No. The principal must enter WITH or BEFORE the derivatives.
2. Some risk.
February 18, 2018 at 17:54
Thank you, but is 46600 still your safe opinion for Africa?
February 18, 2018 at 19:37
You have to realize that predictions this far out cannot be considered *precise*. Wait and see.
February 18, 2018 at 11:35
Good day Mr Brit.
If you get into the US and activate your GC and return to ur home country for some arrangements, for how long (maximum) can u stay before returning to the US with no problem?
Thanks

Hello Simon
A friend of mine just found out that he missed his interview date on the 6th of February 2018.
He submitted his DS 260 and everything but is rather unfortunate that he just missed the date for the interview. Is there anything he can do for him to be rescheduled again for the interview.
Thanks
February 18, 2018 at 16:25
He can contact the embassy.
February 18, 2018 at 17:56
Thanks
Will let him do that as soon as possible
February 18, 2018 at 16:44
Is it necessary to create a new account on USCIS webpage to pay for the green card to be produced or it can be done without an account? If necessary in which link it’s done?
February 18, 2018 at 16:49
When you get the visa, you are provided with instructions.
February 18, 2018 at 19:43
Khartoum/ Sudan
It’s been six months since I completed my DS 260 form and i didn’t receive an email from KKC for interview..
February 19, 2018 at 00:43
Is your case number current?
February 18, 2018 at 20:37
Hi brit can aperson who denied visa after some months approved his visa is it possible????????
Thank you very much
February 19, 2018 at 00:45
Unless it is a “section 221(g)” denial (which is AP), the answer is NO.
February 19, 2018 at 05:42
Hi Brit sir.when will be the 2nl of April interview 2018 sent? I am waiting eagerly.
February 19, 2018 at 06:40
Early this week (but not Monday)
February 19, 2018 at 09:00
I am a single mother (Never married/wedded) with sole custody of a 8 year old daughter, He has my family name on his international passport and birth certificate and his fathers name is not in any of the documents. The man that got me pregnant abandoned us when i was three months pregnant and has never been there for us.
Please I would like to hear or get a suggestion from someone with a similar situation in the past on the below questions.
What kind of document would I need to satisfy sole custody at visa interview?
Is/are there documents that I need to provide to show that I’m a single mother who has not been married and how would the embassy react to it?
Would the embassy be asking questions about my daughter’s father, even when he has not been part of us? And as I write this, I don’t even know his whereabout neither does he know mine. We’ve lost contact ever since I became pregnant.
Your recommended advice/suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
February 19, 2018 at 15:13
If the birth cert shows only you as the parent – that won’t be a problem.
February 19, 2018 at 15:37
So i need no additional documents to prove that. Thank you very much for the clarification sir
February 20, 2018 at 06:45
Joan just Brit told you, as long as the birth certificate indicates ”xxx” or ”no names” of the father you do not need any other document to show that. My sister had the same issue and nothing was asked about the child’s father.
February 19, 2018 at 09:36
Hi Simon,
I am preparing my documents for my interview and I have a question. My high school was not in an English speaking country so I had to get my documents translated. And because I am currently living in another country, I got them translated in my hometown and they sent me a scanned version of it. Would that be okay to use the scanned version of the translation or do I need to have the original translation copy?
February 19, 2018 at 15:12
Either should be OK, but getting the originals removes the concern.

February 19, 2018 at 16:38
Good afternoon, I am a participant of DV-2018, I have a couple of questions: case 16XX I am a principal applicant
1 .- reviewing the DV-260 I realized that I have several transcription errors, also inverted the surnames of my husband’s parents, that will affect the time of the interview or I must unlock and correct.
2.- My husband has two children out of wedlock, for information requirements were included in the 260, my question is: they must attend the interview as participants with us for the visa, since in 260 there is a question that says: they will immigrate with you and they said yes, or for the reason that they are minors, inconveniences will arise. It will be that I have to unblock and place them not to immigrate.
Thank you for your information.
Abrir en Google Traductor
February 20, 2018 at 02:16
1. Unlock and correct.
2. If he has custody and wants them to get GCs he should submit a DS260 for them – otherwise just leaving them on his DS260 is enough (and yours too as they are your step children). I assume he included them on the original entry.
February 21, 2018 at 20:33
Good afternoon, with regard to the second answer, do not put them in the main inscription or in my 260 only in my husband’s and it was for not omitting information, the only thing is that in that part they ask if they were immigrated and they said yes. What is the most advisable they live with their mothers and we do not have their custody
February 21, 2018 at 21:58
Again. They should be on BOTH YOUR DS260s.
They only need a DS260 of their own if they are emigrating.
February 19, 2018 at 19:19
Hi Brits and thank you for your valuable support for us.
I am a DV2018 selectee with CN 2018AS00027XX from Yemen.I have unlocked the DS-260 to wait and see the Travel Ban latest decision on June.but today I surprised when I go to the entry check website and login and see there is an email dated one month ago with interview appointment for me and my derivatives on the end of March at Djibouti. My questions are:
1-Why you think I got the appointment letter although my DS-260 is unlocked and re-opened?
2-Because many Yemeni people stuck in Djibouti because of travel ban,Can I change the interview date to late June and location to Egypt because low travel expenses.
Please your advice to avoid travel expenses to Djibouti and refusal because the current travel ban.
Many thanks
Akram
February 20, 2018 at 02:12
1. Once a case is processed, unlocking does not stop scheduling.
2. You can do that by talking to both embassies (first Egypt to secure an appointment, and then Djibouti to send the case to Egypt). However, unless you have dual citizenship your visa will not be approved. So – if I were you I would make an appoint for late in the year (August/September), and ONLY attend if the ban is lifted by that time.
February 20, 2018 at 10:12
Many thanks Brits and I will do what you advise.
February 28, 2018 at 16:29
Hi Brits again and many thanks for your advice.
I emailed the Egypt and accept to transfer my case to them after I sent/emailed them some documents they requested.Today I received an email from them that they received my file by post and schedule an interview on March 7 2018 and I replied to them to reschedule it to August 2018.
My questions are:
1-What they mean regarding received my file by post?
2-Do I still need to email Embassy in Djibouti to transfer the case to Cairo?
3-Today when I checked my entry status at dvlottery website the interview appointment letter in Djibouti still there not changed to Cairo and also in ceas website shown my case in Djibouti. So does it need some time to update?
4-My ds-260 still reopened/unlocked to update some details,No effect on that?
Great Thanks,
Akram
February 28, 2018 at 16:39
1. I don’t know.
2. No
3. It won’t update for some time.
4. No
February 28, 2018 at 20:20
Thanks Brits.
March 1, 2018 at 21:01
Hi Brit and appreciate your help.
I got an email from embassy Cairo when I asked them to reschedule my interview to August 2018 as below:
Please note that we may not schedule you for an interview in August now, you may contact us end of July and we will see if we have available appointments, we will schedule your case, if not then you may apply in future programs.
Please your valuable advice Brit.
Best Regards,
Akram
March 1, 2018 at 21:16
I almost always recommend people do not reschedule unless absolutely necessary. The response above shows why.
They are warning you that you can ask in July to reschedule, but they are not guaranteeing you will get an appointment. You’ll have to try in July.
February 19, 2018 at 21:13
Hi Brit,
in regards to the marriage certificate and birth certificates, do we need to to obtain freshly dated certificates or will the old originally issued certificates be fine?
Thanks
February 20, 2018 at 02:05
Whatever is normal in your country.
February 20, 2018 at 00:11
Hi Brits!
I am asking about the possibility of asking for a visa extension.is it possible? I am a 2017 DV lottery winner. I have been granted the visa recently after one year of waiting. My visa will expire on March 20th; I can’t travel before this date. Thank you
February 20, 2018 at 02:03
No that is not possible. If you do not enter by March 20th, your GC will be gone.
February 20, 2018 at 04:02
Hello Mr. Brit!
I’m a Green Card winner from Tajikistan with the case number 2018EU30***. The problem is that my second child was born last week, and he is not on my DS form. Could you please advise me what to do? My case number is very high, do you think I have to contact KCC to unlock my DS-260 form and add my newborn child or wait until the interview and add him on the day of interview? Do you think that with the high case number and requesting to unlock it, I’ll still have chance to be invited to the interview???
Thank you.

Dear sir
When should I ask to my sponcer for submit the I-134 if my interview in 2nd week of march
February 20, 2018 at 04:42
As long as you have it to take to the interview you can choose when.
February 20, 2018 at 07:40
Dear Brits,
I appreciate your help … I do read most of your comments and answers to immigrants … I appreciate that …
Brits, my case number is 2018AF16xxx and I will be interviewed next week … But my father’s name on my birth certificate is Mohamed and My father’s name on all other documents including my passport and ds-260 is Mohammed …. Does it have some kind of problem? … Does it has to be changed?
February 20, 2018 at 14:35
No problem.
February 20, 2018 at 07:49
Hi Dear 2018, I am a lucky man! If I am full 9 months old, do the results come through Mollie or number?
thank you
February 20, 2018 at 14:36
I have no idea what you are talking about.
February 20, 2018 at 09:02
Dear BritSimon,
Thank you for all the valuable information you have been providing.
I just wanted to clear a doubt before I go for the interview.
I’m the principal applicant and won the lottery for 2018 and my number is current already and ready for interview next month.
My doubt is about the country of eligibility. As I said my country is eligible and I’m the winner and principal applicant, whereas my wife and my children are holding different passport than mine and their passport belongs to Philippines (which is not the eligible country for dv lottery).
My question is, does it make any problem for the visa issuance because of my wife’s and children’s country or passport?
Thank you once again.
February 20, 2018 at 14:42
No problem.
February 20, 2018 at 15:53
Thank you for your prompt response!!
February 20, 2018 at 09:18
Hi Simon,
my marriage certificate as well as my wife’s police records and school diploma are neither in my home country Language (I am the selectee) nor in English.
1. Should we translate them into my home country Language or in English?
2. Should we need a certified translator and/or a public notary for it?
Thanks Simon for your continued help on this matter.
Fausto
February 20, 2018 at 14:43
1. English is more useful
2. No, just someone who can attest to being competent in translation. Read the FAQ.
February 20, 2018 at 09:56
Hello mr. BritSimon,
I have been waiting the AP (with DS 5535) result since October 2017. Is there anyone who already got issued visa in similar circumstances? Anyone who has waited 3 or more mouths? Because it seems thart people get AP result after short- few days/weeks term or get it never… (
Thanks!
February 20, 2018 at 14:44
Yes – some are issued after months of waiting.
February 20, 2018 at 10:19
Hello Brit. My ceac check status shows: in transit today. My cn is for April interviews. Does this mean maybe today dhe 2nl will be sent? At the dv site as right now is the first letter, you have been randomly selected
February 20, 2018 at 14:44
The 2NL will be sent in the next few days.
February 20, 2018 at 15:13
It changed to : ready, a couple hours ago. So I think the wait is almost over. Thanks for your responses.
February 22, 2018 at 13:44
Mine also went current but the ceac still indicate at KCC, don’t know why ooooh
February 20, 2018 at 12:11
Hey brit, my interview is set for the 6 of march, my husband is the principal applicant but up to now the west African examination has not release his high school documents yet…we have only one week in between..what can we do sir?
February 20, 2018 at 12:27
Tell the embassy you belong to reschedule your Interview date
February 20, 2018 at 12:46
Think twice, we have already done our midical which should be 3weeks before the interview…is there any risk?
February 20, 2018 at 13:15
3 weeks before the interview?? you’re sure about that ??
February 20, 2018 at 13:18
Yes ham, that’s what they told us..what u think?
February 20, 2018 at 14:52
Please listen to my response – not others.
February 20, 2018 at 13:28
Didn’t realise it was thingtwicesays.com now. Grace – you can possibly bring in missing documents after the interview, but i’m only guessing too. Wait for the real expert’s advice.
February 20, 2018 at 13:32
Thanks Mike, I’m wating
February 20, 2018 at 14:49
Please leave the answering to me. Thanks.

Attend the interview – and discuss with the embassy. Take any documentation you have to show he passed High School. If they insist on seeing HS documents, your case will simply wait until that is provided.

Ok. Thank you so much sir!

Not so much a question about the DV specifically but related to it. I assume you chose where to live in the US based on your existing job (or your wife’s?). Regardless, given absolute freedom to select a city or a state, where would you live now? We are considering various factors and we still haven’t come to a decision but we do want a city that feels as European as possible (excuse the irony). Places like NYC and SF mange to do that but at such a high cost.
Thanks for your input.

Hi guys, as much as I like to share information, I will limit my help to my compiled data (minimum wages, population density, etc) Brittsimon knows all the things much more than me, please don’t email me asking cut off number, and all other information related to dv and requirement, Britt is the person not me, if you ask that
Thanks

I think I have written before, I moved for better weather. The UK winter weather made my wife “S.A.D”. Other than that, we had a nice life in the UK, and it’s very nice here. SF East Bay.
So – choose a place like this.
1. Can you find plenty of work in your field there.
2. Don’t choose a place because it has cheap housing. By all means factor the cost of living – BUT cheap places are cheap for a reason.
3. Make sure the weather/recreation is what you will enjoy. Americans get less vacation time but take lots of weekend breaks. So – for example, we could be on a beach is 45 minutes or can be snow skiing in 2.5 hours.
European feel – Portland, Oregon is nice. Austin, TX is cool. Some areas in the Carolina’s are beautiful.
If you are in Technology – Silicon Valley.

Hi Britt, sorry for asking a sensitive issues, where in US has less racial tension? I try to google a lot, but so far that I found is west coast (california) but how about midwest?
Thanks
February 20, 2018 at 17:20
Big cosmopolitan cities tend to have less race issues. Generally, race is still an issue in Southern states, and there are still rural areas where anything other than white will stick out like a sore thumb. The real issue with race tends to be connected with economic disadvantage – so if you choose an area with low incomes, high crime rates and so on – don’t be surprised if those problems skew against people of color. To avoid that, choose more cosmopolitan (more expensive) areas where the opportunities exist for anyone willing to work hard.
February 20, 2018 at 17:25
Nah, thanks, I have the same thought, but can’t confirm, living in cosmo will have less racie problem due to more modern thought and more people in that area, do you agree with that Britt?
February 20, 2018 at 17:55
Isn’t that what I just said?
February 20, 2018 at 19:30
Right, thanks Britt

Hello Sir,
I have a unobtainable birth certificate and it is in english. so, do I need to bring a notary certified copy of it in the interview?
Thanks
February 20, 2018 at 18:54
Copy yes. Notarized – only if that is the normal for your embassy.

Hi brit
I hv entered to us on feb 16. I m currently living in my sponsor’s house.
The question is- when will i rcv my green card? n should i need to visit social security office to get ssn or it will be sent along with green card to my address?
February 20, 2018 at 19:20
The GC could take up to 3 or 4 months. The SSN may arrive in 2 to 3 weeks IF you selected that option in your DS260.
February 20, 2018 at 20:04
Birt if the green card take that long how would we find a job or rent an apartment! or we still can do that with just our visa an SSN?
February 20, 2018 at 20:50
Yes, the visa and SSN are enough.
February 20, 2018 at 19:23
Ceac site not working i think 2nl started to be sent
February 20, 2018 at 19:58
Hi Brit
Interview was a success, and visas were delivered this week. So much excitement! We’re planning an activation trip in the new few months.
A few questions regarding the issuing of Green Card and SSN, my apologies if these are dealt with elsewhere:
1) After arrival can we really simply wait, and these will eventually be automatically processed and delivered to the address specified?
2) On the DS260 we put our country’s embassy as a placeholder for the physical address, and obviously this isn’t suitable. We also forgot to update it at the interview. When we update the address at POE, is it likely this is where the SSN and GC will be delivered to, or would it be advisable to follow up with SSA / USCIS?
February 20, 2018 at 20:02
1. Yes – but if you don’t get the SSN after 2 to 3 weeks – go to the SSA office.
2. You MUST update that at the POE. Make sure that is done. If you don’t, your GC will probably get sent to that embassy.

If both husband and wife both was selected based on seperate aplication do they need to have seperate interview or they can cancel one application later on
And if main applicant provide police clearance still he need to submit a police clearance for wife or spouse ?
February 21, 2018 at 06:27
They would typically just choose one of the applications and process that one (choosing the case with the best chance of success)
February 21, 2018 at 08:19
Hi,

February 21, 2018 at 15:09

February 21, 2018 at 15:45
Brit, if you are scheduled an interview with one of your beneficiaries file incomplete, is the any problems?
February 21, 2018 at 16:05
That would depend how “incomplete” it is.
If you want clear answers, ask clear questions.
