Hi Simon,
Hope all is well. I had my interview today and the consular asked us a few questions and he handed us a green token and told us to collect our passports on Monday at 2 pm.
1. what does this mean? does it mean our visas are approved?
2. Where can i check the status of the interview or my visa?
Kindly advise.
Thank you.
Aqib
June 7, 2018 at 14:14
1. Probably. You could have asked that there!!
2. CEAC or Wait until Monday.

Hello Brit,
Please my wife now has won the DV lottery. At the time of entry she was single and without a child and as of now we do not have a child between the two of us yet. In December 2017 we got married but I had a child born in 2012 in a previous relationship (not marriage) who now becomes her step son. On the DS 260 she is supposed to indicate if she has children and the tip says including step children. Even though at the point of entry she had no child, now my son is her step son. Should she indicate him now even though it wasnt so at the entry? she has added me as an applicant and ofcourse in my form i will indicate i have a son. even though he is not migrating with us now until a later time. Once he is not traveling with us now is she supposed to add him (step son) as applicant too now?
June 7, 2018 at 14:17
She adds the step son she acquired since entering the lottery.
June 8, 2018 at 06:55
In her DS260 as well as mine we have both mentioned my son who happens to be her stepson now and completed and sent the form.
My son is not travelling with us now but later, probably about four years from now. Must we fill a DS 260 for him too now? My son does not have a passport or documentations now so will it affect us if we don’t fill the DS 260 for him especially when he is not travelling with us?
June 8, 2018 at 14:20
No DS260 since you are not applying for a GC for him.
June 7, 2018 at 11:19

June 7, 2018 at 11:39
Hello Brit, Please my wife cannot access the email address she used for the dv lottery at the point of entry, however can she use a different email address that she just created for the DS 260? Or will it be a problem?
June 7, 2018 at 14:18
No problem.
June 7, 2018 at 13:28
Dear Brit,
My mother in law has changed her name (given name) in the past.
Should I declare this somewhere in the DS260? If yes, where to write it?
Thank you.
June 7, 2018 at 14:23
No need.
June 7, 2018 at 15:21
Hi Mr. Simon,
Will there be addition to the redraw for 2019 Lottery?
Thank You.
June 7, 2018 at 15:41

June 7, 2018 at 22:23
I will be waiting with great hopes ??
Thanks for answer.
June 7, 2018 at 16:04
hi brit i downloaded from this site https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/list-of-posts.html instructions from the US Embassy in Senegal and the Ivory Coast, in the institutions we speak of affidavit I-864 and W-2 for Côte d’Ivoire. I would like to know what affidavit I-864 is and what W-2 is.
June 7, 2018 at 16:27
I’m not going to answer 10 questions a day from you when you won’t even read the info I have directed you towards. Respect my time. Read the FAQ.
June 7, 2018 at 16:06
Hlo Mr brit!i hv a question for u please am current for july interview but when cheking the latest csv-file for july 2NLs it doesn’t show my case number…please sir tell me what that means…thanks for ur reply
June 7, 2018 at 16:28
It means you have not been scheduled. There are many others in the same position – generally at certain embassies. Which region/embassy are you?
June 7, 2018 at 16:41
In african region
Lome Togo
And the case number is 2018Af29***
June 7, 2018 at 16:52
My sister was selected in the dv lottery…but she mentioned her boyfriend as a spouse initially in the form can this be corrected??? Or what are the consequences??
June 7, 2018 at 17:12
There is some risk, but the best solution is to marry before the interview. In that case some people have been approved.
June 7, 2018 at 17:07
Hi Simon,
I am a gay male from Serbia who wrote yesterday. Thanks for your reply.
What could you recommend to serve as a proof of a genuine relationship apart from photos, trips and some gifts and letters? I already told you that we don’t share a bank account or live together and that we are not even sooo open about our relationship (gay issues in our country).
June 7, 2018 at 17:15
Use your imagination.
June 7, 2018 at 18:01
Dear Brit,
In the “mother’s surname at birth”, I should put my mother’s maiden surname, right?
Thank you.
June 7, 2018 at 18:09
Yes
June 7, 2018 at 18:27
Hi Brit,
I would ask you share me your experience regarding to my case, I did interview in middle of April, and we went ander AP because of two things
First my wife’s medical test was not completed and until now not completed, we expect we get result my mid of June.
Second was more check about me.
By May the sent me email asked for my passport and my medical test of my wife. I replied them that my wife medical test not completed and it will take till mid of june. I asked tjier advice should I send all passport of just for me and my children. They replied me they asked to send all passports now.
Now they have our passports since mid of May but there is now news from them even they didn’t answer my last email.
In here I need you share me your experience do I have chance to get Visa? Is there any possibility make our visa rejected ?
Thanks in advance
June 7, 2018 at 18:37
Until the visa is in your hand, nothing is guaranteed. I can’t predict the outcome for your specific case.
June 7, 2018 at 18:58
Dear Brit,
Thanks for your comment.
June 7, 2018 at 18:55
Hi Brit, we had interview on 3rd may, nothing happened negative , we were told processing could take 3-4 weeks, one week after interview we were asked to answer some supplementary questions ( later I learned these are DS 5535 questions). Still we are in AP status. Is it a negative sign for our case? Usually how many weeks are needed for processing time? interview took place in Moldova where I live, I am from Turkey. could it be since I am from a Muslim country?thanks
June 7, 2018 at 19:44
I cannot say how long your case will take. The DS5535 is relatively new.
June 7, 2018 at 19:32
Greetings Brit Simon,
First, I would express my gratitude for what you are doing here.
When I come to my question, me and my wife are traditional married, we don’t have legal documents right now. We applied as a married and been selected for dv2019. Currently, we are out of our home country to attend our postgraduate program. This summer we’ll back home to married legally. I would like to know how will affect the interview and chance of getting visa, applied as married without legal document? We are going to fill ds260 after legally married.
Thanks a lot
June 7, 2018 at 19:45
In similar cases in the past, the legal marriage got the cases approved.
June 7, 2018 at 19:33
Hi simon
I did 2 days ago my interview Everything gone right. No Special questions from the consular. (Naples) And the end she told me i can not give you right now the visa. Youll get it in a week. I checked right after i left the ambassy the status. It was AP. What do you think? Thanks
June 7, 2018 at 19:46
I think you should wait.
June 7, 2018 at 19:37
Hello Simon,
I would like to ask you if there is anything we need to know regarding the POE, when we will arrive in the USA? Did they ever deny the entrance/visa to anyone for any reason?
Thanks in advance!
June 7, 2018 at 19:46
It’s not another interview – it’s just paperwork. Nothing to worry about.
June 7, 2018 at 19:56
hi Mr Simon,
we were granted Visas for DV1 for me and my son he is 15 and a half now. I went alone and now I have my GC with me, earlier last month i took him to activate his visa, and all is ok, and we left back home cause he still has school and i have my work to take care of before we move by end of this year.
yesterday I received a letter from immigration office in the city asking my son for biometrics and he has to be there on june 12th, and he is back home. My question:
– Will they allow him to enter the US if he is alone – he is 15 and a half?
– If he did not go can we re-schedule afterwards?
thank you
June 7, 2018 at 20:05
1. Yes
2. I don’t know. Contact USCIS to discuss.
June 7, 2018 at 21:09
Hi Brit,
Is there any problem if I put as my future address in US (and the address where the GC will be mailed) a different address from my sponsor (different cities)?
Thank you.
June 7, 2018 at 21:21
No
June 7, 2018 at 21:34
Dear Brit,
Regarding vaccinations, what should I answer to the question “do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law”?
I only have documentation for the vaccinations I have received here but I don’t know if they are in accordance with US vaccinations.
Should I check Yes or No to the above question?
Thank you.
June 7, 2018 at 22:03
“No”
June 7, 2018 at 21:58
Yes contact the yaounde embassy about it. They probably don’t understand the grading system in Cameroon.
June 7, 2018 at 23:00
hi Simon,
hope you well.
DV winner 2018, all passed, travelling mid June,
my wife EU citizen and my daughter is British citizen, both after the interview been issued a special visa sticker on their passports for a year.
Q; do I still have to apply for a ESTA under Visa Waiver for them to travel to US? worried if Airline will ask for it?
thank you in advance for your reply.
June 7, 2018 at 23:05
Why would you need a visa WAIVER if you have a VISA???
June 7, 2018 at 23:13
agree that no need for that but, worried if airline stuff would ask for it?
June 7, 2018 at 23:35
If they do – you can explain.
June 7, 2018 at 23:24

June 7, 2018 at 23:36
About 1 year from now – but there is a chance they process it anyway…
June 8, 2018 at 04:45
Brit
How recent should be the affidavit of support?
1. Can I have it send 2 to 3 months before my interview?
June 8, 2018 at 05:07
Why get it that early?
June 8, 2018 at 06:56
My sponsor is traveling to AF and I don’t want to take a risk of not having an AOS as I’m not sure if he can fill for me the form while he’s in AF.
June 8, 2018 at 14:19
Well it will have to do then.
June 8, 2018 at 04:00
Hi Simon,
thanks for all your help.
I am currently praying for EU to move a bit faster, 2018EU27xxx — I am considering switching from adjustment of status to consular processing, in case my number becomes current in September, I really don’t want it all to go down cause AoS takes too long.
A) Do you think that’s wise?
B) If I wanted to switch should I contact KCC to unlock my DS260?
C) If I don’t switch, is there anything you can do at the USCIS office to make sure they speed it up?
Thanks so much!!
June 8, 2018 at 05:14
If you wanted to switch you would have to do that immediately otherwise your DS260 would not be processed in time. However, if you submit the DS260, but then don’t go current, you will have declared immigrant intent, possibly causing problems for future non immigrant visas.
DV AOS cases can be pushed faster than other cases, but there is still some risk.
June 8, 2018 at 04:26
Hello, thanks for answering my previous question. On ds260 question is your mother address same as your father I selected no by mistake and I tried to correct it but the question is not showing any more how can I fix that, also when submitted the dv lottery form on November entered last name Aly and it’s written Ali in the passport can I just enter it on ds260 as passport or should I contact uscis for correction, thanks
June 8, 2018 at 05:09
You can ask KCC to unlock the DS260 to make corrections.
June 8, 2018 at 07:03
Dear Brit,
On the work experience section I need to fill current and previous jobs for the last 10 years.
I’ve been in the same company for around 12 years but I have changed positions within.
Can I put previous positions in the same company as previous employments? Or positions are not counted as previous employments?
Thank you.
June 8, 2018 at 14:18
Just one employment with the latest position.
June 8, 2018 at 14:23
In the current employment section or in previous employment?
Thanks.
June 8, 2018 at 14:37
You are currently employed there – right???
June 8, 2018 at 14:50
Yes. But what to put in the previous employment (I have more than 10 years in the current employment)?
Sorry for bothering you but I’m just trying to be as accurate as possible.
Thank you a lot.
June 8, 2018 at 14:53
You have no previous employment since you have covered the 10 years.
June 8, 2018 at 17:07
Hi again Brit,
Just to clarify, I have around 12 years at this company but before that I was working in another company (more than 12 years before) at which I worked for around 7 years. Should I add this employment at the previous employment although it is more than 10 years ago?
So between the current employment (12 years) and the university, there is this old employment. Please help.
Thank you.
June 8, 2018 at 17:48
Really – use your own judgement based on what the form is asking for.
June 8, 2018 at 10:08
Hello brit from nepal im winner of edv 2018 and my visa has been issued. Now mine family and relatives want me to get married .I tried to convience them that now i cant take my wife with me . It will take 2 more years with different process. but still they want me to get married and are ok for another process they suggested me to get married now and as soon as i get my GC start process for my wife so that i dont have to come back Nepal to get married . BUT…………
I have interviewed as single and in my interview CO asked me that are you planning to get married and I replied CO after 1 or 2years sir .
SO….
1) Is there any risk to get married after visa is issued and that sort of interview brits ?
Thank u n your family members for all support to edv winners god bless your family.
June 8, 2018 at 14:07
No risk
June 9, 2018 at 06:10
Im worried because After such a direct question of CO to me i told not now brits. So im afraid that i may have lied to them .
June 8, 2018 at 10:09
Hi Simon,
sorry to bother you with a probably silly questions but important to me:
1. what’s the difference between a case put in Adjustment of Status (AoS) vs put it in Administrative Prosessing (AP)?
2. which “status” could take longer to get finally the green card
3. I am asking you this in case my number will be current in September: as far as you you, there is a way to speed up the process at year end to get all numbers in AoS or AP done?
Thanks and kind regards,
Fausto
June 8, 2018 at 14:06
1. AOS is a different process for people in the USA
2. Too silly.
3. Again – the question makes no sense.
June 8, 2018 at 11:01

June 8, 2018 at 17:49
It means your interview date is scheduled.
June 8, 2018 at 17:58
Thanks so much for your helpful articles on ‘After the Interview’ but I’ve still got two quick queries after checking the FAQs.
I’m travelling to the US in July, within good time of my medical expiring (I had my interview and got approved in March).
1) Do I need to bring any other documents apart from the sealed envelope I received when I got my passport back? I’m just wondering if I should bring my police certs, etc.
2) Also is it advisable to pay the GC fee in advance of flying or can I do it at the airport?
Huge Thanks and sincere apologies if I’m duplicating any earlier queries.
June 8, 2018 at 21:12
1. No.
2. It’s paid online – either before traveling or once you are in the USA.
June 8, 2018 at 18:03
i read one of the question on this blog that someone ask what is the right choice YES or NO on vactinaction proof acording to us law in ds260, and you said NO is the right one to put, but i put YES.I taught i will have it after the medical exam.Is it a big problem or not?
June 8, 2018 at 21:16
No
June 8, 2018 at 18:56

June 9, 2018 at 01:38
hlo simon
1 What is the difference between affidavit of support i134 and welcome letter?? or is it the same?
2. Do we need both documents on the day of interview?
June 9, 2018 at 03:25
1. The I-134 is the official way to explain a sponsors income etc. A welcome letter is something used in Nepal instead of the I-134
June 9, 2018 at 02:10
Hi Simon

You can unlock and correct. Read the FAQ for unlocking
June 9, 2018 at 02:21
Hi Brit
Filling out my DS260 form, I made a mistake. I do have a bachelor degree from my country but I mistakenly ticked off the option OTHER. Would that be a problem? Is there any way to go back and do edit?

June 9, 2018 at 09:11
Hi mr. Brits simon,
When i recieved my visa there is this paper that has photo which is attached to yellow envelop…that has my alias name…
My alias name in ds 260 was MUTHONI HENERY MACHARIA but in that paper they have written like this MUTHONI HENRY MACHARIA. instead of writting the name henry like this HENERY.
But all others names are correctly…
In my visa and passport…
Those alias names i only use them in my high school certificate.
So my question is will that name henry be a problem…because it’s supposd to be HENERY
June 9, 2018 at 14:25
Contact the embassy and get it corrected.
June 9, 2018 at 11:02
Hi Brit,
My girlfriend uploaded an old photo for DV-2019 and was selected. That photo had already been used in her B1/B2 visa issued two years before. Now she has replaced her passport with a new clean one that does not contain that US visa. That is the first time when she participates in the lottery.
What is the chance that at the interview she will be disqualified due to an outdated photo? Is it probable that the visa officer will check her DV application photo against her old visa application photo recorded in the CBP database? The visa office location is Moscow, Russia.
Sincerely,
Maksim
June 9, 2018 at 14:18
Chances of refusal for that are low.
June 9, 2018 at 12:24
Hi BritSimon
I am unable to check my DV-2019 lottery status . My last name part as per the confirmation email has a hyphen ‘-‘ before the comma ( since i did not have one , i don’t remember putting it as ‘LNU’ . I tried entering that and it gives me an error seeing details did not match .
I have tried contacting KCC but no luck . Do you think there will be a checkbox like there is one for DV-2018 if someone does not have a last name ?
Is there any other way i can check my status ?
Thanks
Sam

Excuse Me I did not see the answer of the previous question that’s why I rested it. I have another question. The check sheet of the US embassy in Abidjan asks for affidavit 864, if I send affidavit 134 in its place it is a problem?
