Hi brit I want to invite my mum but I forgot her birthday that I put on the ds 260 do you think it will affect me
February 6, 2020 at 20:24
I don’t know.
February 3, 2020 at 20:09
Dear Brit .
My CN is AS29***. From Afghanistan and send all documents to KCC. I send my ID twice due to some errors in translation. Recently i read in the DOS site the following:
The tazkera must first be authenticated by the Ministry of Interior before an English translation may be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
So Have I certify that document from Ministry of Foreign affairs while I don’t live in Afghanistan for more than 40 years ? If yes, have i send it again or send the whole documents to KCC or just keep it and show it to CO ? Have I explain to KCC the situation?
February 3, 2020 at 20:22
You should be following (precisely) the reciprocity page for that country. If you were doing so, you would not have this concern.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Afghanistan.html
February 3, 2020 at 21:28
So what is your advice Mr.Brit ? Have i email kcc the whole documents again?
February 3, 2020 at 22:33
I don’t know. I’m telling you how to find instructions on how to get the documents in order.
February 3, 2020 at 16:21
Hi Mr.Brit do you think the number of visas in Europe will be many this year ,but the KCC will not be able to interview everyone.
February 3, 2020 at 18:57
KCC schedule, embassies interview.
I don’t know yet – there is a backlog issue – I expect that to be resolved before the end of the year – but only time will tell.
February 3, 2020 at 18:16
Hello Sir, Positive latent tuberculosis case can affect the dv visa ?
February 3, 2020 at 19:04
Did you read the FAQ?
February 3, 2020 at 18:46
Dear sir Simon ! Many thanks indeed for your precious support!
My sponsor just sent me the 134 form . But at the part of INTEND to make specific contribution………..
He has detailed below like this : i will provide housing (room and board) and all other living expenses including BUT not limited to food and entertainment for as long as they will become self-sufficient.
Do you think it is correct because to me it seems a bit risky?
Do you have any professional suggestion of yours or it is just OK.
God bless you Sir !
February 3, 2020 at 19:07
That is perfect.
February 3, 2020 at 19:50
Hi simon. My CN is 2020729xx. I have 2 troubling questions.
1. My marriage certificate is not ready yet. But on process. Can I start to fill 2NL form?
2. My secondary school certificate got lost and I don’t have a copy. On the day of the interview am I required to produce a hardcopy original/photocopy of the certificate.
February 3, 2020 at 20:01
1. You mean the DS260??? Yes
2. Yes.
February 3, 2020 at 20:49
For now my government is not issuing secondary certificate replacement. But
they can send a copy to the embassy. What can I present at the interview? But I still have my result slip(original).
February 3, 2020 at 21:01
The school leaving certificate is issued by ministry of education. Anyone can change marks in school transcript. You can get the certificate from the government department.
February 3, 2020 at 20:01
I am a dv2020 lottery winner from Egypt, my case no is AF60xxx, until now i did not submit my ds260 just waiting to see if there will be chance that my no. will be current. i did not submit the ds260 to not show immigration intent incase i apply for a b1/b2 visa when mine expires soon. do you think this number might have a chance knowing that i am from Egypt. should i submit the ds260 now or wait a bit? will it affect the regular b1/b2 visa in the future?
thanks
February 3, 2020 at 20:12
You won’t know for sure about your case number before you have to submit your DS260/documents. You might have a chance – but I cannot be certain.
Yes – submitting the DS260 could affect future non immigrant visa applications.
February 3, 2020 at 20:17
Dear,
Greetings,
I’m gadir form Sudan, I was born in UAE, but I only have the Sudanese passport, my interview had been appointed on 9th of March, would I be effected with travel ban or not, please advise me whether to get to the interview or not , because I just don’t want to waste my money and time ?
Thanks
February 3, 2020 at 20:24
To my current understanding you should not be subject to the ban. You could email the embassy to check with them.
February 3, 2020 at 20:20
Is there a way to know where my case no. Is among other winners of Egypt? I am AF60xxx is there a way to know where i stand among the other 5k plus winners?
February 3, 2020 at 20:33
Not with certainty.
February 3, 2020 at 20:29
Trump abolishes immigrant visas for 6 countries, including Kyrgyzstan belonging to the Dv lottery – Eu region.
Will the EU region benefit from this news, given that 1200 are selected from that country
February 3, 2020 at 21:10
Yes.

February 4, 2020 at 01:20
Hi Simon,
My OC number is current, i am gathering all my paperwork at the moment.
I lived in the US on the J1 visa in 2017/2018.
Apparently I am required to submit a police clearance certificate for Australia as well as US, because I lived there for over a year.
What is the quickest way to obtain the US police certificate from outside the US?
Thanks in advance!
February 4, 2020 at 01:40
You do NOT need a police cert for the USA.
February 4, 2020 at 06:13
Sir I don’t have another sponsor whose income is more and with genue relationship. So sir if I send mail to embassy explaining we will not take new born baby now and after we settle their in USA only I will take my new born baby, will embassy give visas again to us which was cancelled while processing new born baby visa
February 4, 2020 at 17:28
No I don’t think that will work. They KNOW you aren’t going to want to leave a baby for long before bringing the child. Do as I already advised.
February 4, 2020 at 06:35
Dear Mr.Brit
My girl friend is winner of dv 2020 ( case no AS 14***) .then we married last january 2020.after we filled ds 260 . we are lives in different address ( she lives in her house and i live in my house). we have over 6 year affair before married. we have lot of photo memories since 6 years.
my questions are
01. different address will be issue on interview?
02. what is the your suggestion for me ?
thanks
February 4, 2020 at 17:59
1. Possibly.
2. Stop referring to this person as your girlfriend.
February 4, 2020 at 07:37
Hi Brit
In a situation where my wife is pregnant (let’s say about 8 months) and we both decide that we’ll have the baby in the USA after we’ve activated our GC, do you think this would cause trouble for us at the POE?
What would you advise, we have the baby at our home country or could we make the process easy and just have the baby in the states?
Thanks
February 4, 2020 at 18:02
You will find that some airlines will not let a pregnant person fly in the last month or two.
As for the rest of the question – if you do have the baby in the USA, make CERTAIN that you pay for the costs.
February 4, 2020 at 09:09
Dear Britt,
My interview is on 17th of March and according to the instruction email,i have to send my documents AT LEAST 2 weeks before the interview.
All my documents are ready, including my sponsor documents, and i was thinking to send them next week.
Is it ok or you think its too early?
Thank you in advance
February 4, 2020 at 18:03
You can decide.
February 4, 2020 at 12:54
Hi Brit
My cn is 2020EU44xxx i completed the ds260 but i havent got any message that my documents have been received should I email them after 6 weeks??
February 4, 2020 at 19:09
Yes
February 4, 2020 at 15:02
hi im sara , i an eritrean citizen who live in kenya and i have intyerview on march 14,2020 for dv lottory .does the travel ban affect my case.
February 4, 2020 at 19:10
Yes. If you do not have a second citizenship/passport or some other reason for a waiver, it is likely you will be refused.
February 4, 2020 at 18:04
Just to be sure, on the day of interview I have to bring only the most recent graduation certificate? I have a 4 year bachelors of science degree so I assume I would not need to provide my high school diploma in addition to that?
February 4, 2020 at 22:29
GOOD Day Mr BritSimon
i want to first start by thanking you for you for all your time and all the answers of the questions we have be asking you. please my case
2020AF0002948XX when can i be call for interview ,As i have send all my Documents and i have Received Congratulations! Our records indicate that you have submitted all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center. my question is that now they have travel ban in some African country will i still have a interview by April or before April and from the VB ,africa have to be in 31000 by march.thanks
February 4, 2020 at 23:10
You just asked a few days ago. Assuming you are not from a banned country, nothing has changed.
February 5, 2020 at 05:33
Hi Simon, I was just wondering if you have any insight into how KCC are processing documents?
1. Do they prioritize according to CN or are they reviewed in order of date submitted?
2. On average, is the 3-6 week period communicated in the auto-reply email accurate?
I am current in March with AF30xxx and was really hoping I’d be ready for a May interview, but haven’t received confirmation that my documents are ok from KCC yet.
Thanks for all the amazing assistance you’ve been so far for me through your blog. It’s been invaluable!
February 5, 2020 at 19:30
1. We don’t know exactly. KCC have told some people they are prioritizing by case number order.
2. No.
February 6, 2020 at 15:42
Just an update on the above for you – submitted docs on Monday and received the email today (Thurs) that they’ve been processed, so it’s true that some cases are being processed pretty quickly.
February 7, 2020 at 00:54
Stating what KCC told me about the processing: “Documents are processed in numerical order, based on lottery rank number. Once KCC has processed your documents, we will let you know if anything is missing or if we have received everything needed”
February 7, 2020 at 02:43
We know, with 100% certainty, that the statement is not true.
February 7, 2020 at 05:38
The statement comes directly from Kcc after I emailed them about my status. I’ve sent the documents November 17th still no reply besides the automated message. My case number is EU31Xxx which is not current yet anyways, but just sharing the message I got from KCC which might help you with your analyse 🙂
February 7, 2020 at 05:50
Yes I understand they are saying that, and I’m not doubting that they said it. But we have evidence that it is not true in all cases.
February 5, 2020 at 06:34
Hi Simon,
I have mistakenly added a baby on form ds-260 as a derivative. How can I remove. Should I write to KCC? Can they remove ?
February 5, 2020 at 19:31
No one can remove that once added.
February 6, 2020 at 07:44
Thank you Sir,
so it means we are all disqualified from program?
February 6, 2020 at 19:50
Why on earth did you jump to that conclusion???
February 5, 2020 at 07:30
Hi Brit my question is that if the travel restriction applies to all 6 countries why does the government go out of their way to specify that Sudan and Tanzania are only countries affected by dv.
February 5, 2020 at 19:45
That is explained in the proclamation. It is because those two countries have made efforts to improve their processes, but Trump & Co still believe DV is the riskiest source of immigration.
February 5, 2020 at 08:00
Hello, Brett.
I have a question when I fill out the ds260 form last May when i asked if I got a visa rejection before I answered no but I have a tourist visa for America in 2017 will this affect the day of the interview?
February 5, 2020 at 19:46
Not normally as long as they don’t believe you were trying to conceal something.
February 5, 2020 at 08:32
Dear Brit ,
My question is : should we send marriage certificate documents in both my and my wife’s name on it ? (as it is same for both of us i only sent it naming only my name and surname (principal applicant) on it not mentioning my wife’s name)
Should i send it again ? (same marriage certificate with different name on it)
Sorry it may seem stupid question but i heard it that i should send it like this.
Thanks in advance 🙂
February 5, 2020 at 19:47
Use some judgement based on what is normal procedure in your country.
February 5, 2020 at 09:07
Hi Brit, I unlocked my DS260 in sept and after submitting Ds 260 they asked for further document which I sent and got a received mail also in 1 day. In sept document were sent in old format and without marriage certificate. Again I unlocked my Ds 260 one week ago in jan to add my travel history and submitted in the same day. After one week of submission of Ds260 they again sent Congratulations document received and are ready to be schedule for interview mail. Now my only concern is about marriage certificate which was not needed in September when i sent document but now it is needed which I haven’t sent anything after 2nd submission of DS260.
So just a little concern.
Thanks
AS14K
February 5, 2020 at 19:48
Ideally – resend the entire package.
February 5, 2020 at 09:41
my case no. is AF60xxx, which is considered relatively a high no., however i am from Egypt and i am afraid that citizens from my country will consume the 7% quota of the visas. do i have a chance, i did not submit my ds260 yet to not come out empty handed at the end and ruin my chances for a b1/b2 visa in the future, please advise.
February 5, 2020 at 19:51
You already asked this – I already answered. Please be respectful of my time.

hi Brit
I had an interview yesterday and i answered all my questions truthfully. i have a great bank statement and i gave all the documents they requested for. but somehow the CO is not fully convinced, in the end of the interview he told me that they will do additional review and then the embassy will call you and he returned my passport to me. i know it is AP condition but he didnt say it clearly nor gave me any refusal form. the visa status check is still as it is “ready”. am confused it is an AP condition then why he gave my passport back? if it is a refusal why didnt he say it then? what do you think it is ?
thanks,
February 5, 2020 at 10:04
forgot to mention that am a civil engineer with 3 and half years of experience, Bahraini citizen and single
February 5, 2020 at 19:52
You need to be patient and await the outcome. I cannot predict the COs decision.
February 5, 2020 at 10:42
Hi brit I just read an article that says in albania police curt goes to embassy but I got it from the post and sent it by my self as a pdf document
Maybe Does this affects why my ds260 comfirmation its taking more than 6 weeks and please what should I do???
Thanks
February 5, 2020 at 11:44
Yesterday I sent an email to kcc to comfirm my doc have been received they sent an email that your email have been received……
February 5, 2020 at 20:02
Wait.
February 5, 2020 at 10:52
Hi Simon,
OC3XX
I submitted my ds-260 c. 10 days ago but never received a confirmation of receipt.
Should I have received an acknowledgement of sorts?
Thanks
February 5, 2020 at 20:02
10 days is no time at all. Wait.
February 5, 2020 at 10:55
Hello Brit,
i have a question regarding the proclamation 9546. i m living in one of the countries which were banned recently, also i have a russian id, i sent the scans to kcc, and i m thinking to get a russian international passport. i m presuming that interview will be held in april. should i unlock the ds260 and add my new russian passport? or i can bring it with me to the interview and ask to put visa to my new passport from another eligible country?
February 5, 2020 at 20:03
Adding it to the documents would be a wise idea.
February 5, 2020 at 14:47
hi simon
i would like to know how i go about adding my newborn to my own and my wifes application done in november 2019? my boy was born on 23 January 2020 and we want to add him to our applications as dependants alongside his 3-year old sister.
thanks
February 5, 2020 at 21:26
If you read the FAQ you will find an article that handles that exact scenario.
February 5, 2020 at 14:59

February 5, 2020 at 16:09
HI Brit,
Thanks for all your hard work in providing useful DV applicants with guides and instructions. I have a few questions for your attention:
1. How do we fill in the Sponsor/Petitioner in the DS 260? I noticed within the comments that a few people have done that. I recently checked my DS 260 but do not see that option to fill it in. I downloaded the sample DS 260 form here: https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/DS-260-Exemplar.pdf and noticed there’s a section on the left side menu called “Petitioner”, placed between “Work/Education/Training” and “Security and Background”. However, when I log in to my DS 260 form, that section is missing for me.
2. Regardless, I have a I-134 form filled up by a friend. Is that sufficient, or do I need to somehow still fill that up in the DS 260?
Thanks in advanced for your answers.
February 5, 2020 at 21:29
1. A DV case is self petitioned. You do give a US address which is where the GC will be sent.
2. That will be sufficient.
February 5, 2020 at 16:22
Hi Simon. did SB 1 return residence visa will affect with new ban , i’m from sudan and am planning to go to US after 21 February 2020
February 5, 2020 at 21:30
No.
February 5, 2020 at 16:34
Hello Mr. Britsimon
Many greetings u n your family.
I am Dv 2020 winner and my case number is AF252xx w/c is current now,
However, i was late to fill my DS-260 form b/c there was spelling error in my passport which i had to correct it but the process is difficult in our country and it takes too much, fortunately i got my new passport last monday thanks to the Almighty God. The last couple of days i was in rush to fill the form and w/c i have almost completed but I didn’t submitt it because i get confused with some questions And i hope u will help me to understand..
1.I started to work in a governmental institution 3 years back and 7 months later i took exam for postgraduate study and won to start the study. So in the previous employment i wrote it. But in the mean time my freind told me that for every previous work u hve to prove that u are no more their staff and show the clearance and sometimes the KCC may even ask them directly and if they found that u r staff it may cause disqualification, and it is not possible to resign now because they sponsored me(that means i am still their staff) and if i resign during the process i will not be able to continue the education. So i dont knw what to do.
2. Question says, are u a health care worker seeking to perform such work in the USA but have not yet received certification from US EXAM BOARDS.
I am certified health care worker based on my country criteria and i hve 2 years experience.
So is it problem if i say yes
And mention in the box that i am planning to take the usa certification exam to continue training and my profession.
3. My sponsor is greencard holder and he is my close freind who went america 2 yrs back. He is a single with a last year income of more than 30,000 USD is it safe.
4.do we need to submitt document to prove that our education level meets the qualification or they will ask to do so during the interview.
5. The fifth and the last question, in average how long will it take the kcc to process The DS-260 form b/s all other required douments are in my hand and i hope to submitt it this week with the ds-260 form..
Pls sir for your experience help me…
Thanks for ur kindly and constant support and guidance for us in this long journey.
May Almighty God bless u and ur family .
Hve good time
February 5, 2020 at 22:12
You somehow managed to type a lot and not be clear.
1. Are you saying that you worked in the USA illegally? Are you still in the USA? If so, you cannot process through AOS, but could still process in your home country.
2. No problem to say yes. If you had read my guide you would already know that.
3. Again – read the FAQ.
4. At interview. Again – covered in the guides.
5. It varies.
Please help me help you and others. Be clear and concise and put in some effort to read the FAQ ad so on.
February 6, 2020 at 04:02
Thank u for your quick answers.
Question number 1. I mean in my home country.
I am postgraduate student sponsored by instituition w/c means i am their staff, so is it problem being active staff.
i mean do the kcc communicate the home countary companies.
do i need to resign from my work
February 6, 2020 at 05:49
I have no idea why you are concerned. Stop listening to idiots.
February 5, 2020 at 17:26
What is the latest deadline to leave for the US after obtaining the visa? September 2020?
February 5, 2020 at 18:27
Also, when are the last possible interviews? September?
Thanks.
February 5, 2020 at 22:15
Yes.
February 5, 2020 at 22:15
There is an expiry date on each visa – which is 6 months after the date of the medical. That will mean some cases enter after September 2020.
February 5, 2020 at 19:18
Dear Brit,
I was working in one company for 1 year and then i left that company because health problems. I didn’t worked for 3 months, now I’m better and started working again in same company.
New contract, new everything, just same company.
Should I list it as one present job in ds260 or I should put previous work 1 year and present work from new date even it’s same company??
Thanks! 🙂
February 5, 2020 at 22:17
Just list it one time.
February 5, 2020 at 20:59
Hi Brit,
I had my interview few days ago and the CO approved my visa and congratulated but the next day I checked my visa status,it was “Ready” but now it’s “Administrative Processing” and I haven all the documents to the CO and I asked CO if he needed any document from me and said I had come for the interview absolutely prepared”.In the end the CO said he didn’t need any documents from me when I asked. Is this normal to put me on AP the next day after my interview and can this status change to “Issued”after several days???

February 5, 2020 at 21:50
Hi Simon what impact Will the ban of Sudan, Tanzania and Eritrea affect the out come of winners in 2021 DV lottery? in Africa?
February 5, 2020 at 22:23
Less people can process their cases… the impact of that is obvious.
February 5, 2020 at 22:09
Hi mr.Simon
I am originally sudanese but i was born in Saudi Arabia, i have applied in Saudi Arabia and i have been accepted for the dv lottery 2020. So according to the recent ban, so to which i will belong Saudi Arabia or Sudan i mean would i be included in this ban ?
Thank You in advance.
February 6, 2020 at 01:24
Hello ?

Your country of birth should mean that you escape the ban.

Hello brit I’m a high school final year student and I live in Sierra Leone (Freetown) I have two questions to ask.
1. I applied for the 2021 dv lottery, but by the time the result will be out for (wassce 2020) which is around September 2020 the dv result would have already come out, so are they not going to disqualify me from continuing the interview process because I need to prove educational requirement.
2. I want to know also if I’m allowed to use sat certificate as an educational requirement for the dv lottery interview in my country Sierra Leone
February 6, 2020 at 05:50
Get selected. Then ask.
February 6, 2020 at 06:36
the travel ban has been extended, and today china is struck by a very serious virus, i want to know if china is likely to be one day on this travel ban list?
Countries that are banned from travel will participate in the 2021 draw?

I don’t have a crystal ball.
People from banned countries will still be selected in DV2021.

Hello, Brett.
I have a question that I have rejected a tourist visa in 2017, but when I fill out the DS260 form when I ask if I got a visa rejection before, I replied no, do I open d260 and tell them that I had received a visa rejection before or not?
Note that my number is AF00052XXX

Since you have time to wait anyway – yes.

Dear Brit, with case number 2020AF00026***, I’ve got two questions.
1. Is it mandatory to take printed I-864 with me during the interview or can I just give the address of the sponsor so that the CO can check all necessary things through the address?
2. If taking printed I-864 is mandatory, then can my sponsor email me scanned I-864 so that I can print it and take it during the interview?

DV cases do NOT use the I-864. They use the I-134 ONLY.

Hi Brit,
my interview it is supposed to be in April as my confirmation arrived yesterday, but today I discover that my mother changed our surname with only one letter. This fact was not declare on DS260 and now I am very worried what should I do! It is neccesary to reopen Ds260 or I can bring on the interview date the statement issued from the state institution?
Thank you in advance

You should unlock your DS260 to add the name on the “other names used” section.

Thank you for your reply Brit, but I was probably not well explained. My surname was Sino (this was not declared on DS260) and since 2005 at that time I was 16 years old, my surname is Sina. All my documents are with this new surname. If I unlock now my Ds260 it will be a delay on my interview date? you for sure do not know but your opinion it counts to me!
thank you

I cannot say whether it will delay or not because I don’t know if you are about to be scheduled. But you need to think about this in the right way. Would you rather be delayed or denied?
