Hello Brit,
I am DV2021 selectee (AS62xx) and recently completed my DS260. Regarding the next step of submitting supporting documents to KCC, should I precede on submitting the electronic files (ie birth certificates, police certificates, etc.) to KCC’s email or wait for KCC’s email notification on request of documents.
Thank you!
October 12, 2020 at 22:01
Wait to be asked. There is no need to rush at the moment – so be patient.

Good day Brit, Firstly thank you for posting information about DV lottery. I have just submitted the application for 2022 DV lottery 2 days ago and realised that I chose vocational education over high school education.I don’t have work experience related to my study in vocational education but my high school education is American high school education standard which is GCE Advanced Level from Cambridge courses in England and I finished in Nepal as I’m from Nepal. Will there be any chance for me to get qualified. Thank you
Kind regards
October 13, 2020 at 13:27
Selection is random – nothing to do with what you select on the form for education level.
If selected you will be able to meet the education criteria.

You don’t have a bachelors degree. Choose High school.

Hello, I’m about to enter the application for DV2022 with my wife listed as derivative. I of course have a photo of her, fulling the required specifications BUT: when she will enter her application can she use the photo we have used of her in my application where sje is listed as a derivative? (A similar argument applies for me as I would be not submitting the application for me but I would be a derivative in her form).
Thanks in advance.

Hi britsimon. I’m dv2020 winner in group 5 and still hoping to get the visa from 9095. Can i apply for dv2022? Many thanks in advance.
October 12, 2020 at 23:00
Yes
October 12, 2020 at 22:03
Yes she can use the same photo for her own application.
October 11, 2020 at 22:58
Hi Brit. I submitted my entry to the dv-Lotery. Unfortunately, i had a mistake on my name. One letter was missing. Is there a way i can delete this aplication? will this be a problem in case I win? Can I submit a new application with my correct name on it? or will it be taken as a duplicated?
October 12, 2020 at 22:04
Do not add another application. If you are selected you will correct the mistake later.
October 12, 2020 at 00:13
Hello Simon,
I’m the DV winner of 2021 Asia, I used a photo which wasn’t 600×600 and now I’m selected.
Will I get disqualified for this?
October 12, 2020 at 22:40
It can be larger than 600×600 no problem. Their system would have rejected it automatically if the size was wrong.
October 12, 2020 at 03:17

Thanks,
October 12, 2020 at 22:45
You can charge to your spouse’s country of birth, but your spouse will also have to meet the education/work experience requirement.
October 12, 2020 at 03:53
I am Somali citizen but I was born in Saudi Arabia and I don’t have Saudi citizenship. Is Saudi Arabia my country of charge ability or Somalia?
October 12, 2020 at 23:00
Saudi Arabia. You must have proof of your place of birth, such as a birth certificate.
October 12, 2020 at 04:44

October 13, 2020 at 13:20
No need.
October 12, 2020 at 05:04
Hello Mr Simon,
My case is a little bit completed, i am a 2021 dv lottery winner with a case number of 39k,(i don’t have the education requirements but have more than 5 years experience as a market research analyst and marketing manager with foreign companies and i am a business owner/manager for more than 10 years) i am currently in the USA on b2 status along with my wife and daughter, we are stuck here because of the pandemic and the borders closure. I filled the ds260 forms couple weeks ago.my questions are:
1- can i apply for adjustment of status even if my case number isn’t current yet?
2- is it better for us to go through the consular processing or adjustment of status? (If borders open soon)
3- my wife is having a baby soon and i had to apply for Medicaid for here because i couldn’t find any insurance that cover maternity for visitors, would it affect our application?
October 12, 2020 at 23:56
First – your case number is meaningless without the region.
1. No.
2. Why are you asking about soon – your case number is MONTHS away.
3. It can cause a problem, yes. You should have left the USA rather than using public insurance for which you have not contributed. Visitors insurance or travel insurance was available to you with a simple search – and it’s pretty hard to justify why you are still in the country in October – even with the difficulties caused by the pandemic. The reality is you were looking for a way to stay in the USA and adjust status – you asked about that in June – but how are you going to justify staying in the USA until mid 2021?
October 13, 2020 at 03:25
Hi Brit, my sister is an American citizen and she never stops drumming it in my ears that under no circumstances shouid i be a public charge or apply for any Medicaid from the US govt. She said when it comes to the time when one wants to become a US citizen after 5 years, the US govt will never grant the citizenship cos of public charge like this fellow has done. Once you apply for help from the govt, you are finished.
October 13, 2020 at 05:04
Thank you for your reply,
– My case number is AF39xxx
– I had travel insurance from the date i came, and i kept renewing it till July but it don’t cover maternity. I tried to reach all private insurance providers but none of them accepted to cover maternity for visitors, if you know any insurance that can do that please let me know, even if it’s for $2000 a month
– i am still in here because my country’s borders (Algeria) are closed since March 15th. The thing i can provide proofs either from the us embassy in Algeria website or the Algerian embassy in NYC.
– Yes i did asked about that before (haven’t seen your answer) to see what options do i have not to find a way to stay, i spent more than $70k since we arrived 10 months ago.
October 13, 2020 at 13:15
You have an odd concept of insurance. You can’t call them when you are already having the health event and ask them to pay for that health event. You had to have proper health or travel insurance in place before the pregnancy. The only exception to that is ACA plans (that cover pre-existing conditions), but as you are not supposed to be staying here, I am not sure if you can get that.
A quick web search shows the Algerian embassy don’t agree with your statement. https://algerianembassy.org/press/covid-19-9-536-algerians-repatriated-until-30-july.html
October 13, 2020 at 17:43
I appreciate your reply, i tried all insurance providers and they were enable to cover the maternity because we are just visitors. And about the rapatriement flights, we are one of a lot people who weren’t contacted nor considered.
What is your best advice to us, that we can save our dv lottery case otherwise our future non immigration visas?
Thank you in advance
October 13, 2020 at 21:29
I’m sorry, but I don’t have any particular advice. You will have to decide what you can do.
October 12, 2020 at 05:19
Hi simon
What type of training required to qualify for for work experience ? Vocational or on job training ?
October 12, 2020 at 23:57
Not all work experience is conditional upon having compeleted training.
October 12, 2020 at 07:17
Hi Simon ! Thankyou for precious effort!
Just an information to share with you and dv2020 visa holders. My cousin is dv2020 visa holder Entry Subject to PP10014 no married no children. She gave a try flew and was refused to enter in New York airport. The officer there were shocked and said how did other airports have let you come till here and didnt stop you. She was refused to enter and came back. So all dv2020 visa holders dont waste money ! I am a subject to PP10014 too. Lets wait until US citizens splash out that orange head in election! God bless you Simon!
Many thanks indeed !
October 12, 2020 at 13:08
Thanks for sharing her experience. This is very useful to know especially for those “stubborns”. I wonder if her visa was cancelled or something, I hope it was not. Can you tell us more about it? Thank you
October 13, 2020 at 00:02
Thanks for letting us know the experience. As I suspected, the airlines didn’t check or understand the annotations, but she got unlucky with finding a Border Patrol officer who was “awake”. Still no harm done, apart from wasted time and money. But yes agreed, others should just wait.
October 12, 2020 at 07:37
Hello Mr. Simon, your page have a lot of information that was very helpful, so thank you for that. I have some questions, my passport have 4 names, what I should use for the middle name for the dv application ? the fathers’ or all the names between the first and last ? second one, can the background in pictures edited of course without any changes to face ? the last question here we should use the photo tool provided by the official website (travel.state.gove) before download it to the dv application page( although all parameters of the photo are available) or it is only a guide?
thank you a lot for your help to all of us
October 13, 2020 at 00:03
1. Name should match the passport.
2. Very minor edits to the background, nothing more.
3. It’s a useful tool, but you don’t have to use it.
October 12, 2020 at 07:59
Hello I was born in Saudi Arabia but I’m not a Citizen, I am an Eritrean citizen. Both countries are eligible, which country should I use for eligibility?
October 13, 2020 at 00:04
Where you were BORN.
October 12, 2020 at 09:34
I am applying for a Diversity Visa 2022 this year. The online application asks for “Last/Family Name”, “First Name”, and “Middle Name”, in Question 1(Name) and Question 7(Passport).
I am a Malaysian citizen and hold a Malaysian passport. The biodata page of all Malaysian passports
(i) have only a single field titled “Name” in the Visual Inspection Zone (VIZ), and
(ii) different parts of the name are only separated by a single chevron (i.e., <) in the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ).
For example, if my first name is JOHN and my last name is DOE, then the VIZ and MRZ zones in my Malaysian passport's biodata page will look like:
(i) [VIZ] NAME: JOHN DOE
(ii) [MRZ] P<MYSJOHN<DOE<<<<<
Question:
Assuming my first name is JOHN and my last name is DOE, how should I fill in the "Last/Family Name", "First Name", and "Middle Name", for Question 1(Name) and Question 7(Passport) in the DV-2022 online application?
Your quick response is much appreciated. Thank you very much for your help.
October 13, 2020 at 00:05
Lastname: Doe
Firstname: John
Middle name: CHECK the box for no middle name.

Hi Simon,
Hope this message finds you in good health,
Just need some clarity on the below
2021AF44xxx.
1. Bank Statements:-
a. What is the minimum value that is required to be in the statement for a family of four (2 Adults, 2 Children 3 years and 6 years)?
b. Can I use Primary Applicant Bank Statement plus all derivatives bank statements within the interview to prove that our family will not be a public charge?
c. I have a policy of funds maturing next year would it be an issue to the embassy if they see a large amount being deposited in my in account a few weeks before a planned interview?
d. Can I also provide the value of our property (Registered in my name and my wife’s) in our utility bill with regards to proof of additional funds?
2. Marriage Certificates:-
a. Currently we have applied to Home affairs for our unabridged marriage certificate, however due to covid and South African (SA) home affairs not being in 100% operational there has been delays. I am hoping at the time of our interview we will have this document from our SA home affairs, but if unable to obtain an unabridged-marriage certificate will an abridged marriage certificate be sufficient?
b. Our children’s birth certificate, current abridged marriage certificate and our utility bill will both show that my wife and I are married as official documents.
Thank you in advance for your continued support and assistance.
October 13, 2020 at 00:08
1. a. At least $25/30k. An I-134 is much safer.
b. Yes
c. They might find that suspicious, so be prepared to prove where the money came from.
d. No
2. a. Yes
b. There is no question here.
October 12, 2020 at 10:33
Hi brit, is there any chance to success the lawsuit? because trump has not expanded the visa ban after 31 decamber 2021. so if we attempt to sue the ban before 31st december , there is a great chance of the lawsuit to be failed. Am I right? how do you explain it? please.
October 13, 2020 at 00:09
It is too early to speculate.
October 12, 2020 at 10:53
Hi Simon, My son is 20 years old and eligible to apply for the DV lottery. I will include him in my application, and the father will also include him, as he is still dependent. Can i submit for him a separate entry for himself?

Hello Brit,

I just realized that in my original entry, i mistakenly uploaded a picture of my One year old daughter and the background was not white. For my picture and that of my wife, the background was white.
Can this cause me problems and what can i do?
October 13, 2020 at 02:56
No problem. It’s just the child.
October 13, 2020 at 04:45
Thanks Brit. Please just to clarify,
1. Do you mean it’s my child that will have a problem?
2. And that my wife and myself will have no problem?
3. If the child will have a problem, what can we do please. Can we recall her Ds 260. so it does not affect our entire case?
October 13, 2020 at 13:07
What part of NO PROBLEM was confusing to you?

Hello Sir,
I am a DV2021 winner with number EU12K. My wife and I live in US. She is a student here on F1 visa, and so I am on F2 visa.
We basically want to do adjustment of status, but I realized that the Visa Bulletin numbers move slowly compared to the recent years. (EU cutoff number is 4800 for November.)
We’re wondering if we could send our application early enough to complete the whole process as I know that AoS takes longer.
October 13, 2020 at 03:08
Yes you will have plengty of time. DV AOS goes much faster than normal AOS.
October 12, 2020 at 17:46
Hi Simon,
I am DV-2021 EU14XXX case, and I was wondering if you think I could benefit from participating in Charles Kuck’s lawsuit? What are the potential downsides besides spending $1000?
Thank you for your help!

No downsides other than the $1k

October 12, 2020 at 18:43
Good afternoon Sir ,
What does it mean in a CEAC data chart the yellow rectangle (no response) especially in the early case number (low case numbers) ? It does mean these kind of cases submit ds260 or submit their documents but KCC did not response?
Thank you Sir for your clarification.
October 13, 2020 at 03:15
Possibly, or they did not send the DS260 or documents.

Hi Simon. I have great uncertainty. I am a winner of dvlottery 2021. When I filled out my application in October 2019 I was in Panama that I had applied for refuge since June. But when filling out my application I did not say that I lived in Panama but that I lived in Cuba. I already filled out my ds260 and there if I put that I live in Panama since June 2019. I have doubts that I will be disqualified for this mistake that I made because I did not put the truth at the time I filled out my application to participate. Thank you if you can advise me and health and success in your life.
October 13, 2020 at 13:05
Worrying over nothing.
October 13, 2020 at 04:24
Hello simon,
I am filing the ds260 form for me and my spouse where i am the principal applicant but due to some busy schedule i have to tick on ‘spouse to be immigrate at later date’ in the principal applicant form but in the accompany form of my spouse there is also the option for spouse where i have written my details but again at the end it asked wheather the spouse is immigrating with applicant or not so the case is i am the principal applicant and the form is of accompany but the spouse details are mine .
October 13, 2020 at 13:06

Hi Brit Simon,
I was a selectee of the DV2021 lottery, though I have a high case number AF74xxx.
I previously studied and lived in the US for 6 years, I had a credit card which ended up being sent to collections once I moved back. I am now making monthly payments through a credit service to pay off my balance however I will probably completely pay it off by some time next year (unless my financial situation improves by then, in which case it could be sooner).
My questions is could the fact that I have debt that I am currently repaying (less than $1500) affect my chances of moving forward with the process? Because I did insert my social security card number when submitting the DS-260 form, I am assuming they may have access to this information. Just wondering if they will use this in the elimination criteria.
Thanks in advance!
October 13, 2020 at 13:22
It does not affect the DV process.

Hello simon,
I want my spouse to join me later after i immigrate to USA so in that case i have selected in the spouse information of ds260 form that spouse is not immigrating with me but she is immigrating in later date. Beside this, when i opened the accompany form there is also option about either spouse is immigrating with the accompany, as i am the principal applicant i have done my part but for spouse section what should i tick on like immigrating with me or immigrating at later date as i want my spouse to immigrate in later date being a principal applicant.
Thank you in advance. I adore that you make most of the DV applicant journey easy.

Overthinking before the selection! It is a lottery not a plan.

Who is the principal applicant? Her? Or you?

I am the principal applicant simon.

So you can enter without her – but just understand that if you don’t include a spouse or child in the DV process, the other process (once you are in the USA) is slow (about 2 years) and more complex/expensive.

Hi Brit, thank you for all the great content you are creating and all the excellent information.
I have a question regarding the ”Name” in the DV application. Let’s say my Full Name is John Dennis Smith.
It is considered a mistake if I filled out:
Last/Family Name: Smith
First Name: John
Middle Name: Dennis
On the passport or on the ID, is true that both ”John” and ”Dennis” are under ”First Name”
So, I added my second ”First Name” in the ”Middle Name” section… is that a big mistake, that can get me disqualified if I win?
Thank you for your time! 🙂

Last/Family Name: Smith
First Name: John
Middle Name: Dennis
This is correct.

Hello Sir,
I filled dv 2022 form yesterday.
I inserted a photo of mine which I used it for dv 2021.
Is there any chance of correcting it?
What should I do?

Nothing you can do.
However, up to now I have NOT seen any cases of disqualification for that mistake.

Questions like this make me scratch my head. What does marital status have to do with number of children. NOTHING!
Answer the questions truthfully. Really.
