You could email KCC to see if they are satisfied with your documents.

June 7, 2019 at 07:53
Hello Brit,
My wife is the winner. Her case is on 39k. The issue is while the dv lottery registration for our daughter (1years old) we indiacated my Fathers name (it should be my name). I have corrected it in DS260. Do u think It may be a serious problem if we re will be called to interview? Its so stupid mistake I guess i did it in rush last October…
June 7, 2019 at 14:44
Not a big problem at all.
April 22, 2019 at 14:44
Hi
I’m from Sierra Leone, West Africa. My wife won the 2018 DV with case number 2019AF0002XXXX but yet to fill and submit the DS260 and we weren’t married by then. Now she wants to fill the form including me. Is it okay she include me since we are married now and is it not too late to submit the DS260 for this case number?
Thanks in advance
April 22, 2019 at 20:52
It’s OK but she needs to do that ASAP.
April 23, 2019 at 07:14
Tnx Brit,
So is there any deadline for submission of the DS260 referencing the 2018 winners?
April 23, 2019 at 13:30
Because of the new procedure and backlogs people should not be waiting to submit the DS260.
April 23, 2019 at 15:49
hi brits !! i was sent scaned documents to kcc and confirmed…..but the the birth date certificate was not interpreted to english because of not knowing. It is in amharic….. i was sent documetns which is transleted, still not accepted……then is there a problem on only untranslated birth date certicate ?
April 23, 2019 at 16:40
The email asks for translations. So follow instructions.
May 6, 2019 at 09:31
I would be too much grateful if i get clear answer of these questions.
May 7, 2019 at 00:14
Hi Brit,
What document are needed to complete DS 260 ?
Thank you
May 7, 2019 at 05:29
Follow the guide completely.
May 7, 2019 at 19:25
Hi Brit,
In the DV application my first and last name are correct but there is a mistake in middle name. Is that an issue?
May 7, 2019 at 20:57
You can enter the correct name in the DS260 – and if you do that, it should not create a problem.
May 8, 2019 at 11:42
Thank you for your clarification and thanks God that your are there to answer us.
I will elaborate, in our passports our names are written as (My name Nabil, father name Radha , grand father name Mohammad) all as Given Name then (Family name Al-Nakib).
I the DV application form some how I put My name, Grand father name and family name!
I.e in my passport it is Nabil Radha Mohammad Al-Nakib
In the DV form I put Nabil Mohammad Saleh Al-Nakib.
Should I just submit the DS 260 with correct info or reach KCC and explain to them to correct.
God bless you and your family.
May 8, 2019 at 17:28
I already answered you. Re-read what I said.
May 9, 2019 at 02:57

Hi there! As for yesterday the check status for DV 2020 is available but of course yesterday the site was responding sooo slow so I decided to let it go and check it today….but now I see that the https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC/ is basically down; it’s not just is responding slow, “the site can’t be reached”. Should i just wait another couple of hours? does this happened before?

May 9, 2019 at 01:10
hi Brit, we are one of the lucky ones. But, I have a medical condition. I am recently diagnosed with TB and under medication now. I need to take medicine for four more months until I get clearance from the medical office. Do I have to wait until that time to kick off the process or can we start soon?
May 9, 2019 at 01:20
The DV process is slow. The EARLIEST interviews will start in October, and interviews will be spread over a full year after October (until September 30, 2020), ordered by case number. So – you have plenty of time to take your treatment and get the all clear. Read the lottery guide above.
May 9, 2019 at 12:24
Thank you Brit… But, it seems like Lottery Guide link is broken. It’s saying that “TOTO, WE ARE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE…” A server error occured and unexplained things are happening around us. Close
May 9, 2019 at 12:29
Sounds like they are having a problem – be patient and try again later. Read the FAQ and other info while you wait.
May 9, 2019 at 03:21
Hi brit
I lost my passport when last week. I finished the all process except interview. i will get interview when the end of May.
1. Is that a porblem to get interview with replacement passport?
2. Can i get embassy for interview with replacement passport without police clearance? Because of the previous passport number attached with the replacement passport.
May 9, 2019 at 04:48
1. No.
2. That’s OK.
May 9, 2019 at 23:13
I BritishSimon. as a winner, i started the DS 260. I found a problem on the section PRESENT AND PREVOIUS INFORMATION. 5 years ago i was an aupair in Connecticut. When my visa expired, after 1 year, i went back to italy to get a student visa. I got the student visa and I am in the usa with a valid visa. My address is always in Connecticut but in a different family. What should i putin this section? The sistem told me there is a gap in the dates
May 9, 2019 at 23:53
You should fill in the truth, but I suggest you should not be rushing to submit a DS260 yet. There is plenty of time and there downsides to submitting.
May 10, 2019 at 00:45
in this section, do i have to add also my home’s address in italy? Because i am going to address 1)my address in usa with visa F1 2)address when i was aupair in usa 3) address when i was in italy, at home. That s right?
May 10, 2019 at 01:04
I am not looking at the form, so please just follow the instructions.
May 10, 2019 at 01:53
I typed my middle name incorrectly, and I won the DV. what would be the your suggestion for me? will i be qualified to go to the interview?
May 10, 2019 at 02:35
If you had read my FAQ, you would have found this:

May 10, 2019 at 20:24
Hello Simon,
Thanks for your ongoing assistance with many cases! Great stuff! I was selected for the DV-2020 Oceania region, case number in the high 1400’s. I’m curious, this is the first year that has any influence under the Trump administration. The application for the DV-2020 was much more “involved” than previous years. I’m wondering how if I have a shot with a number in the high 1400’s?
Due to the application process requiring much information, do believe that having such a high number maybe due to many numbers ahead of me being disqualified?
Thanks in advance!
May 10, 2019 at 23:09
Numbers in the 1400s have made it in past years, usually because of low responses, not disqualifications. However, it is too early to know enough. Trump can barely find his toupee in the morning, let alone influence this process. Have a read of this.

May 12, 2019 at 01:05
My case number is 2020AF000590xx
Should I be holding to any slight of hope?
May 12, 2019 at 02:56

May 14, 2019 at 06:46
i applied last year but i cant find my confirmation number but when i put forgotten they ask me for information i used while registering which i have provided but they keep telling me its invalid .. wat can i do now
May 14, 2019 at 13:34
If you cannot enter the details correctly, there is nothing else you can do. Try again in the next lottery.
May 21, 2019 at 09:51
i have filled and submitted DS-260 after winning DV lottery in oceania region 2020OC000001XX. 1.) is that a good number?
the instructions said that i just need to obtain civil documents 2. Do i need to wait for further instructions from KCC or i have to scan the documents to them?

May 21, 2019 at 14:04
1. Yes
2. Wait for them.
May 22, 2019 at 01:23

Hi there!!!
Am kenoly from Cameroon, Africa. My case number is 59869. Wish to know my chances of being called for an interview, please!
May 25, 2019 at 20:45
Low, but it is too early to know for sure. In a couple of months we will know more.
May 26, 2019 at 14:23
Hi there!! I’m filling out the educational institutes I’ve attended. I’m a qualified lawyer in both AU and State of New York. Do I include anywhere in the application my certifications to the New York State Bar and Australian bar? May be a silly question (!) but but do I include the memberships to those institutions (law in the number of educational institutions? Or would I just include the universities that I attended? Thank you!! 🙂
May 26, 2019 at 15:11
Educational institutions means schools and universities, not professional memberships. If you are adjusting status in the USA stop filling out the DS260. If you have a high case number, stop filling out the DS260.
May 30, 2019 at 06:15

June 21, 2019 at 16:50
Hi BritSimon!
This website is indeed informative and invaluable, thank you so much for your efforts and help.
I have one concern (hopefully it’s not a critical mistake!).
Let’s say my name (in real life) is as follows:
– First Name: X
– Middle (perhaps my father’s) Name: Y
– Surname: Z
In my passport, it’s written as follows:
– Given Name: X Y
– Surname: Z
In my DV2020 Lottery application it was written as follows (It was my 3rd or 4th time applying so I didn’t really pay close attention):
– First Name: X
– Middle Name: N/A (to the best of what I recall!).
– Last Name: Z
My DV2020 lottery winning post addressed my name as follows:
– Name: Z, X.
My DS260 form was filled as follows (did my best to be safe!):
– Given Name(s): X Y
– Surname: Z
– Other Known Names:
– Given Name: X
– Surname: Z
Bearing in mind that in almost all my supportive documents (e.g. ID, Certificates, …), my name is written as follows: (X Y Z).. altogether I mean..
What do you think? did I do the right thing when added other known names?
June 21, 2019 at 17:21
I fell asleep reading this essay.
If you filled in the correct names on the ds260, you’ll be fine.
June 21, 2019 at 17:50
Didn’t realize it got all that long until I clicked on “submit”!
Yeah I filled it in the correct way (as in my passport).
Thanks for your reply!
June 27, 2019 at 10:53
Hi all,
I too am one of the Italian DV-2019 winners, In the recent months I had the possibility to work for a nwer company on an important project.
Reading on-line I found the indication about the possibility to suspend the Geen card validity ?.
Could any of you give me the needed indication about this possibility ?
Many Thanks
Elena
June 27, 2019 at 14:33
Once the visa is issued, it has an expiry date. You cannot extend that date. You must activate your LPR status before the date of expiry. Read the FAQ about entering the USA and leaving after a short trip.
June 27, 2019 at 15:39
why i can’t compleate the address in ds260 I try to do that for many times and many days
June 27, 2019 at 15:50
I can’t read your mind. You have to provide better information than that…
July 1, 2019 at 06:54
hi briti
i am edv winner 2020. i have complete my Ds 260 online form in may 10. my case number is below 98. i can’t got email form kcc to submitted my certificate and passport and police report. how much time it needed.
July 1, 2019 at 19:45
DV2020 interviews start in October, so they will start asking for documents in the next few weeks.
July 2, 2019 at 18:40
Hi Simon
I am DV-2020 winner with a case number 2020EU11***.
Filling out the section about Previous Addresses and realized that there was one address where I was living for around 5 months (rented flat) but I can’t remember the precise flat number. What should I do in that case?
Many thanks in advance.
July 2, 2019 at 20:01
Guess.
July 2, 2019 at 18:43
Hi Simon. Many thanks for your blog!
July 8, 2019 at 11:39
Hi Simon. I was not selected for the DV 2020. Do you think there might be a second draw this year for the DV 2020?
July 8, 2019 at 23:35
Probably not. We seem to have a lot of selectees already – so why add more?
July 9, 2019 at 02:58
Hi Pal,
I know you’ve answered this 100 times but I have read a few conflicting comments.
Do we WAIT to send documents until KCC email instructing so. Or do I “be careful” and send them anyway.
Also the more annoying Q. How is OC103x looking?
July 9, 2019 at 22:59
You need to include the year in your case number – I assume you are DV2020.
In that case – wait. Number is OK – but a long time to wait.
July 14, 2019 at 14:12
Dear sir , I have one question ,who will give me the sponsorship he said
May be his income is not in off cause he just buy the house so may I change the name or I can change after second letter
July 14, 2019 at 15:14
Brit sir can I change sponsor in interview
July 14, 2019 at 15:18
Yes
July 14, 2019 at 15:40
Thank you
July 14, 2019 at 15:15
I don’t understand the question.
July 15, 2019 at 17:03
I’m come from Taiwan.
When I applied for DV2020, the First Name and Last/Family Name were reversed.
But i have screen my visa lottery website.
It’s a big problem?
July 16, 2019 at 00:50
No. Get is correct in the DS260
July 16, 2019 at 16:35
Do I need to send an email to KCC to explain my name is a reverse error?
July 16, 2019 at 17:24
No. Do what I said.
July 17, 2019 at 23:14
Hi Brit,
I have a 9 years old Son that doesn’t live with me. We both live in different countries and am not married to the mom. I mentioned him during my DV application and now i am filling up my DS260 form. Do i need to include his details as well in DS260 even though he is not immigrating with me and he has no passport and the mom wont let him go with me even if i requested. I am confused on what to do and i need an advice before submitting the form.
July 18, 2019 at 09:41
You would list him on your form, but not create a DS260 for him.
July 19, 2019 at 05:31
Hi Brit, i need support. My name in the birth certificate was with three names (AAA, BBB, CCC). Before the end of high school I have deleted BBB and CCC to avoid problems with the documents. Now in my passport I have (since many years) only AAA. I participated in the DV2020 lottery and sent the DS260 with only AAA. I’m not the principal applicant, is my wife. When I will send my birth certificate with AAA, BBB, CCC, can I have problems? I will be able to explain to the interview? what do you recommend? thank you!
July 19, 2019 at 05:53
Since you are the derivative, it won;t matter.
July 19, 2019 at 06:19
Thanks Brit, good news 🙂
July 24, 2019 at 19:23
Hello Sir. Brit….
Please I’m 2020 selectee and my birth certificate is also delaying due to that, can’t do the passport book. So my question is, can I submit my DS260 and later submit the birth certificate and the passport?
thank you
July 27, 2019 at 00:41
Yes, you can, but there is no need to rush. You can use “other national ID” to submit the DS260, but will need to submit the passport etc prior to being scheduled.
July 27, 2019 at 10:31
I’m lawfully in the US with an F1 visa, I got selected for the DV 2019. My case number got current in November but due to some problems, I couldn’t file immediately. I was thinking for an adjustment but I just recently found that they can take really long so I’m considering changing that to CP instead. But the problem is, I’m taking classes this semester, one is online so I can handle that but the other one is in class. And I’m not sure about the interview dates and the amount of time that I’ll have to spend in my home country. Can you please suggest me something, or give me any ideas on how I might be able to work through this?
July 27, 2019 at 14:10
Case number (with year and region)?
August 17, 2019 at 21:58
Hi,
Is it really required for the spouse ( derivative) to show the consular officer the work and educational certificates? and to be attested those documents at foreign ministry? will the co ask those from the spouse for certain?.
Pl guide us….we kind of lost….
Thanking you.
August 17, 2019 at 22:31
No. They are not required.
August 18, 2019 at 04:55
Dear Simon,
Is it a requirement to attest documents (work expérience and education) at foreign ministry?
August 18, 2019 at 05:11
That varies by country – so read the instructions.
February 24, 2020 at 16:27
Hello dear BritSimon, I have a quick concern re: your recommendation to read the DV instructions when at the same time you go against some of those very instructions. For example, the instructions encourage applicants to enter early in the registration period to avoid website delays that occur at the end of the tregistration period due to the huge amount of entries at the same time. But I have followed one of your videos when you say that it doesn’t matter when you enter during the registration period. The KCC instruction proved valuable when people were trying to enter DV 2021 during the final days, and some applicants experienced delays and urged the State Department to amend the end date of the lottery entry period. Please advise.
February 24, 2020 at 20:56
Apparently you DID NOT follow what I said.
My comment you have quoted is out of context and were based around a question of whether the time of entry affects the chance of selection. It does not – as I have explained.
Obviously if you only “half listen” to what I say you will get confused – but don’t jump to the invalid conclusion that what I said was the problem.
August 19, 2019 at 15:04
Hi, there,
In order to get i 134 does it has to be u.s citizen or What if the sponsor / petitioner from u.k ( Relative ) would that be acceptable at the u.s embassy?
Thanking you.
August 19, 2019 at 15:57
It has to be a current US taxpayer (citizen or resident).
August 20, 2019 at 10:21
Hello Simon I received a mail that my visa can’t be processed because I flled the online D260 form late and that’s because I was in the bush trying to seek refuge because Cameroon is in a state of civil war and our houses are being burn. Pls who do I write to for a reconsideration of this decision because it’s like they keep on sending me automatic response everytime I write them. Pls is there a superior authority who can help? . I won the 2019 lottery and I’m from Cameroon. Waiting to hear from you
August 20, 2019 at 13:04
There is no higher authority, and there is no way to change the decision. I’m sorry to hear your circumstances, but this opportunity was for a set period of time, and now it is too late.
August 23, 2019 at 08:30

good evening.. thanks to all of you for being more or less helpful. i amwriting regarding the following questions:
1.Are you a health care worker seeking to perform such work in the United States but have not yet received certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools or from an equivalent approved independent credentialing organization?
2.Are you a graduate of a foreign medical school seeking to perform medical services in the United States but have not yet passed the National Board of Medical Examiners examination or its equivalent?
3.Do you seek to enter the United States for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor but have not yet been certified by the Secretary of Labor?
It seems I have to answer yes to them, but in that case the field of “explanaition” is activating. what shoud I write there?
thank you in advance..

Dear Brit,
I follow your amazing blog religiously, thanks for what you do for us.
I reside in the US and work under H1B and got selected for DV2020 with EU35XXX. My number historically becomes current around jun/jul, and my immigration attorney (he is not an expert on DV at all, I was working with him for EB-2) is confident that there is no way to do an adjustment of status in just 3-4 months as they are extremely backlogged. He seriously thinks I won’t make it, and that I’d have more chances (still no certainty) if I go back to Italy and do it from there. What’s your perspective? what are my actual chances? I can try and take unpaid leave from my work and be in Italy

The lawyer you spoke with doesn’t know anything about DV – almost no lawyers do because DV related AOS is extremely rare.
There is enough time for you to do AOS. You don’t need a lawyer at all. You will be able to take advantage of an early filing policy for DV cases, and DV cases are given a priority for AOS.
Instead of paying money to educate that lawyer, save yourself some money, AND get a better result by checking out the thread linked below. There is a spreadsheet linked from the first post in that thread. Read it thoroughly and “Mom” will answer specifics as you go through your process. You have some months to wait anyway because of your case number.

Hi Marco, i am italian and i am in the us applying for AOS. DI not take seriously what your lawyer says because as Britisimon says, they do not know anything about DV Lottery. You don t need a lawyer for that. I did all about myself thanks to this forum. If you want to chat let me know.
