People are now receiving their 2NLs for August interviews, it will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
All remaining 2016 cases are eligible for interview now, so there should be a lot of 2NLs going out. I’m expecting that some of the busiest embassies will not have allowed KCC to schedule all the interviews in August and will push some cases to September – so that might mean some people don’t get their 2NL. Write a comment here if that happens mentioning the embassy and when you submitted. Some late submissions will have been unable to be processed in time for these interviews and will hopefully be in September.

Hi Brit, thanks a lot for your help! i received my appointement for the interview , it is for august!
i have a question about the supporting document need for the interview.
1- i’m from Morocco , in the immigrant visa checklist mention the form I-864 and not I-134 , is that form I will need as diversity visa?
2- I do have the birth certificate and Marriage certificate translated on February the 8th 2016.are still useful for the interview? I would like to let you know that the birth certificate in morocco expire after 3 month, so the translat of that document will be expired?
June 22, 2016 at 23:25
1. I-134 NOT the I-864.
I. If the original is expired then it needs to be replaced and the translation is invalid.
June 22, 2016 at 21:26
Hi Brit, thanks for your response that says: No, the principal has to travel before or with the derivatives. my next question is Why? Is there a law against it or a policy?
June 22, 2016 at 23:38
It’s part of immigration law. The derivatives are called derivatives because they DERIVE their status from the principal applicant.
June 22, 2016 at 19:53
hello dear simon my friend lost his confirmation number and he s current his case is 2016AF53…his status shows ready but he can not get his 2nletter because he lost his confirmation number to check his 2 letter please telle me what to do

June 22, 2016 at 18:59
hello there
please Mr Brit .are all the 2Ls the same ? i mean like this one i recieved ; bacuase they told me to bring my family with me in the interview day .but in the DS260 i said that i will bring them with me by pitition case : the letter says :
This is the official notice for you to pursue your application for a DV-2016 visa. An appointment has been scheduled for you at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate stated below. You and all members of your family who wish to apply for a Diversity Visa must appear at the appointed date and time for your interview. Please notify the office listed if you cannot keep the appointment.
You and any eligible family members will be required to submit sufficient proof of identity upon arrival. If you fail to obtain a DV-2016 visa by September 30, 2016, your registration will expire. Your family members must also obtain their visas prior to September 30, 2016, or they will not be permitted to join you in the United States under the DV-2016 program.
Please follow all of the instructions provided at http://www.dvselectee.state.gov to prepare for your interview. It is very important that you follow the instructions carefully and completely. The Diversity Lottery Fee for each applicant and each member of the family must be paid in full at the Consulate or Embassy at the time of your interview. There is only one fee and you should only make a payment at the Embassy or Consulate when instructed to do so at the time of your interview. The fee is non-refundable, even if the visa is refused for any reason.
i appreciate your help

Hello Simon,
I really want to appreciate your hardwork on this blog.
You are doing a great job.
My question is
You just told something about host system. I actually dont get what exactly is a host system.
You also told that KDU embassy accepts host system.
What does it mean?

June 22, 2016 at 13:29
That is normal. Get the medical for the child anyway and attend the interview with her.
June 22, 2016 at 11:30
Good Day Brit,
A friend of mine have a problem with his case, He received his 2NL yesterday for August interview, but KCC did not include his just born child, which he wrote them about months ago, he did fill out the child DS-260 and submitted it and got the confirmation page, because of the new born child they asked KCC to reopen their case and they did, the child was added to the case which cause delay to their interview date. My question are:
1. should he write KCC to inquire why his child was not included in the letter?
2. Can he take the child at the interview and explain to the counselor?
If any body have had any experience like this please share it with me.

June 22, 2016 at 10:58
Greetings sir
have a question is the afedavide of support needed by all embassies or specific
June 22, 2016 at 13:44
It can be requested by any embassy on any case. Some embassies almost never ask for it.
June 23, 2016 at 09:27
Do Cairo embassy ask for the affidavit of support?
June 23, 2016 at 13:42
Typically no.
June 22, 2016 at 09:37
I have a question about proving to not become a public charge. I won the diversity lottery 2016 and I have my interview August 2nd in Stockholm, Sweden.
I totally understand everything on the I-134 page and about becoming a public charge. You have to prove that you have $10,000.00 or use an I-134 form (sponsor).
I just want to make sure that I will not have any issues with proving that I am financially secure. I have a job in the US because I am a F1 Student and I am working at my school. I make $13,000 annually and I have a job confirmation letter and tax papers to prove this.
I also have $10,000 in savings PLUS a statement from my financial aid in Sweden which explains that I will receive around $23,500 from them to pay for school and living expenses for one year.
I read on the interview stories page that someone that went to an interview in Stockholm needed to prove $75,000 so that made me really worried.
I have a total of $46,500 in liquid funds to prove that I will not become a public charge. Is this enough?
June 22, 2016 at 13:50
Sweden are odd. You are likely to have problems there as you have already noted. So – I suggest you obtain an I-134 from a suitable sponsor. You might be approved without it, but if not, the delay creates a risk.
June 22, 2016 at 16:21
Thank you for your fast response!
I am a little bit worried so I might try to obtain a I-134 form. I do not want to delay anything at this point.
Another quick question.. Can my boyfriend who makes a substantial amount of money annually file the I-134 form when he is in the United States on a E2 Visa? He is working for a large bank and he just renewed his Visa and has worked in the US since 2011.
There is a part where it says a “lawfully admitted nonimmigrant” when identifying the sponsor. However, I am not sure if this is sufficient for a diversity lottery visa?
June 22, 2016 at 17:14
He can complete the I-134 – although a really picky CO would point out the E3 visa is temporary – meaning the support is of limited duration. However, in combination with other factors, it should be OK.
June 22, 2016 at 18:26
Thank you for your help!
June 22, 2016 at 09:02
Hello Mr Brit
Thanks for your permanent assistance.
DS260 sent in September; unlocked twice in February and March
Got my 2NL and interview in August but I have some problems;
1-Filled DS260 for my son born in November 2015 but his name is not on the 2NL
2-I stated in the DS260 that am travelling alone and the family will join later but on the 2NL,they are requested to attend the interview with me.
3-We are married for 8 years but we live apart and in two differents neighbour countries because of the nature of our jobs. I have 5 hours drive to get to my wife and the kids every 2 weeks. We have all legal proofs of our union and kids
Please any advice for the interview will be highly apreciated.
Thanks

Can u help me about this! I got my 2nd letter and the interview is where I didn’t request I’m in Somalia and they make the interview location Saudi Arabia can they change that location? If yes who is the one to change ? Thanks
June 22, 2016 at 13:55
You have to contact both the embassy you want to transfer to and the Saudi embassy to arrange the transfer. It is risky – so make sure you keep on top of it.

Yes.
June 21, 2016 at 20:01
Hello there, I have been a silent follower since you once told me to wait and see if my high case number AF53**** would ever go current. Well, 2NL is here (happy dance).
Now, I had started a course early last year and still have a couple of years to complete it, how much longer can one delay the interview or can I do the interview and then extend my stay? Is it a must that one leaves immediately six months after the interview?
June 21, 2016 at 20:17
You cannot delay the interview safely – and in any case ALL DV2016 interviews must be completed before the end of September 30, 2016. You must enter the USA within the 6 months (timed from your medical). At that time you can leave immediately for up to 12 months or stay a few weeks and apply for a re-entry permit which gives up to 2 years.
However, you should understand that American education courses will be more easily understood and highly valued compared to any foreign equivalent.
June 21, 2016 at 20:35

June 21, 2016 at 16:47
Hi Brit,
I’ve just received my 2NL and will have my interview in Montreal on Aug 4.
I have just one question: for the employment current and past, are employment letters or contracts are required as proof of employment?
Keep up the great work!
June 21, 2016 at 16:52
It is rare that they ask for employment letters UNLESS your education does not reach their requirement (and in that case they will want to evaluate your work experience).
June 23, 2016 at 05:15
That’s something I am not sure of. I graduated high school with SPM which is O Level equivalent. According to this website
http://www.immihelp.com/immigration/high-school-diploma-equivalents.html
Malaysia’s SPM is equivalent to US high school diploma, but I am not sure how authoritative this source is. Do you have any idea?
June 23, 2016 at 13:50
The link you gave is not authoritative. There are many incorrect points on that site.
The question is whether your education (SPM) would have allowed direct entry to a US University/College with no further education/test.
June 25, 2016 at 22:02
Hi Brit, I have finally found something more authoritative:
http://www.nmit.edu.my/sites/default/files/form_brochure/IntStudents_EquivalentEntryQualification.pdf
This is a list given by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), and according to the list US High School Diploma is equivalent to SPM (GCE O Level).
According to UCAS: http://www.arts.ac.uk/media/arts/colleges/lcf/courses/application-forms/int-quals2013.pdf
US High School Diploma is equivalent to GCSE (average Grade C).
According to the West Texas A&M University: https://www.wtamu.edu/webres/File/Student%20Support/International/HighSchoolRequirementsFreshmanISO.pdf
SPM is equivalent to High School Diploma.
I didn’t mean to bombard you with all these links and info. It’s just that I’ve been confused with this matter for a long time, and there is no official source from the US to verify this. When I attend the interview, will the consulate officer refer to the official list by Malaysian Qualifications Agency or something else?
Do you think it would be a good idea that you start a blog to ask people from different countries to tell you what education credentials they use for their successful or unsuccessful diversity visa interview? This would hopefully give people a better idea what to prepare for the interview. For me I would surely let you know the outcome of my interview, regardless.
Again, thank you for your wonderful work.
June 26, 2016 at 14:06
The COs know the level needed for their local area and perhaps surrounding countries. For education from other countries they check with the US Embassy in that foreign country (causing AP).
Looking at the documents you provide I can tell you that I am 99% sure STPM is what they will want to see. There are a couple of countries that accept a level that is too low, but they are an anomaly. I don’t know about Malaysia specifically.
By looking at the other countries that I know the DV requirements and working back the level is always STPM on the first link you gave. US High school graduation is “normally” achieved at 18 years old. It’s the level of UK A levels for instance, not O levels (O levels are achieved at 16 and cannot qualify a child to enter University, whereas most Universities require 3 A levels and that is at age 18).
The DV rules are quite clear about the entry requirement in terms of the point of University entry. Another aspect of the rules that makes the age clear is that there is no minimum age for DV entry BUT the rules say it is practically not possible to qualify under 18.
June 26, 2016 at 15:17
By the way, THe local embassies will probably sometimes translate their local standards to compare a foreign. In Canada STPM is noted at GRade 12 on your first link, and SPM is noted as Grade 11. Grade 12 is probably the level they will look for.
August 7, 2016 at 18:00
Hi Brit, my DV interview in Montreal has been concluded and approved, and my family of four will be going to the US as permanent residents. I would like to thank you for helping me and others in guiding us in this long and tedious process.
The CO is a very nice young gentleman. Honestly I do not know if he had approved my case based on my education credential of SPM (“O” level equivalent to the UK and many commonwealth countries) or my work experience since I have many years of work experience with SPV rating of 7 and 8. I have provided the proof of employment for my last two jobs. He did ask what my highest level of education is, to which I answered Master of Design.
I might also attribute the success of my interview to the completeness of my documentation, especially the 5 police records (Malaysia, UK, Singapore, China, Canada), bank statement with sufficient funds and the Certificate of Title of our property. No affidavit of support is needed.
Once again, thanks for your help and keep up the great work.
August 7, 2016 at 19:02
You mean No affidavit of support WAS needed in your case – other cases will be different.
August 7, 2016 at 19:10
Yup, I have shown sufficient funds for the family of four. I have never prepared any affidavit of support and the CO never asked for it. Yes, I think every case is different.
August 8, 2016 at 14:43
If you showed fund that is why they didn’t ask for it.
June 21, 2016 at 16:30
I have just received my 2NL. My number is AF0005000x. I filled in my DS260 on the 18th of May 2015. I never unlocked it. My interview is on the 23rd of August.

June 21, 2016 at 15:42
Hi Brit,
Thanks for your time in taking us through this process. I submitted my DS260 on the 22nd May 2016 and still wondering if I might have a chance to receive 2NL as I am currently residing in Tanzania where I will should have my interview. In this regard, what is it like to be interviewed as foreigner residing as a dependant on my husbands permit.

Wait and see if you can be scheduled for September. Your interview will be like every other interview.

Dear Brit
We got our 2NL just today. In our DS260 (11May 2016 never unlocked) we clearly mentioned our location of interview will be SEOUL, REPUBLIC OF KOREA where we are currently living however KCC might be mistakely forwarded our interview location to KDU. What will be the solution of this unfortunate change?

I assume your current address was shown in Nepal? Frankly you should do the interview in KDU. MUCH higher chance of approval there….
If you want to change you have to contact the two embassies – and that is risky.

No permanent address was Nepal but our current address in DS 260 is Korea

Well, as I have explained MANY times on my blog, the interview is scheduled based on the address you give, not where you want to be interviewed.

Now we have newly rised problemS
1. Medical test certificate. May WE get a medical certificate from one of the seoul us embassy reconized medical center of Korea and submit to KDU?
2. We obtained police certificate to be submitted to us embassy in seoul. Should we need replace it and need mentioned to be submitted to KDU?
June 21, 2016 at 16:46
The medical must be performed at a physician that the embassy prefers. So, you cannot use one from Seoul for an appointment in KDU. That is why you wait for the 2NL before having the medical.
