Hi Mr Simon
Hope you are doing well
my name as written in the passport contains apostrophe to over come some pronunciation problem between Arabic and English
I tried to write it as it in the DS260 form but it’s not allowable to contain it in the name
any advice about it ? or just keep calm and relax
thanks for standing there to support us.
May 25, 2017 at 20:12
Don’t worry about it.

Hi Simon,
Could you shed some light on obtaining and submitting police certificates? Some countries, as per their interior policies, will only send the ordered police records directly to the specified embassy or consulate. That is not an issue by itself as long as the certificate arrives on time for the interview. However, the process is uncontrolled, may be prolonged and last for up to 2 months. I hear the time interval between the receipt of 2NL and the interview date is usually 6 weeks give or take. The case number to reference at the embassy is probably not known until 2NL has been issued. So here’re my questions:
1. Is there any best practice approach to deal with potential gaps in processing of that ilk?
2. Will the case automatically be placed on AP in those situations, what would be the downside?
3. Is it feasible to order such a police certificate “pre-emptively” prior to receiving 2NL when the case is still handled by KCC?
Best Regards and thanks in advance.
May 25, 2017 at 20:10
1. Follow instructions given on the reciprocity page EXACTLY.
2. Yes, no police cert = AP. Downside is delay and risk that visas run out in the meantime.
3. Yes – but again – see 1.
May 25, 2017 at 20:35
Thanks for your response, Simon!
The country reciprocity instructions state that “The certificate should be sent directly to the Consular Section.” That means it will not be handed to us personally. Does it make sense to order it PRIOR to receiving 2NL specifying the consulate of the interview as the address? Will it not be missing some reference number not issued yet by that point?
I hope my question makes sense to you.
Best Regards.
May 25, 2017 at 20:47
If that’s what the instructions say – follow them!

Hello Britsimon
I won the 2017 dv lottery and when depositing my DS260 form I was told that I will receive a mail with visa interview details but I did not receive a mail. So harzardiosly I went back to the enfant check page on may 1 and found out KCC replied me on November 23 and planned my interview for January 17 2017. So I called the us Embasy in yaounde Cameroon and rescheduled another interview for may 12. Due to time constraint I was not able to receive my medical exams results. The interview went well but my case was pending due to lack of medical exams results. I collected the results yesterday may 24 and handed it at the embasy. When I checked at the ceac status check center my daughter’s case shows ready and mine shows Administrative processing so I have the following preocupations.
Firstly how long does it take for my case to be trated and my visa issued considering that those who underwent interview with us received thier visas 6 days later(4 working days and 2 weekend days)
Secondly does the fact that my interview was reschedule affect the duration of visa issuance.
Thirdly what are the procedures and names given to each. Given that my daughters case shows ready And mine administrative procedure. Does ready mean that her visa is issued or that her documents are complete.
Thanks for answers.
May 25, 2017 at 20:08
1. It varies.
2. Yes, your re-scheduling will have added delay.
3. Derivatives cannot receive a visa until the principal selectee is approved.
May 25, 2017 at 20:22
Hi Brit,
what does this mean ” YOUR CASE IS CURRENTLY AT KCC “
May 25, 2017 at 20:47
KCC has your case, not the embassy.
May 25, 2017 at 21:09
I am aderivative applicant, when I fill ds-260 education starts from 2006 instead of 2005, is that a problem? Or not? Why because I am aderivative applicant?
May I unlock and correct it.
GOD bled you
Thanks!!!
May 25, 2017 at 22:55
No problem.
May 26, 2017 at 02:58
Brit thanks for your valuable comment.
May 25, 2017 at 22:33
Hi Mrs simon.I would like to ask you this question on behalf of my friend.he win DV lottery but is worried about the passport which he doesn’t have and he can’t go back to his home country to get it because of politic problems.he doesn’t know what to do.Is DV lottery administration can provide the traveling paper of those particular issue??
May 25, 2017 at 22:44
It depends on the circumstances – in SOME cases they can arrange a travel document when a passport is unavailable.
May 25, 2017 at 22:44
HI brit do i have any risk if i summit new birth certificate which is given a week ago. my previous certificate is very old and local calendar birth day is not clearly visible but the converted one is clearly visible.
May 25, 2017 at 22:54
Take old and new to the interview.
May 26, 2017 at 04:58
There is also one day difference b/n two certificates. The new one is correct but the old one has a mistake while converting from local calendar to international calendar,
1.Do you think still a good idea to present two birth certificate which shows two different days?
2. is there any risk of showing the new one only?
3. No one ask me to return the old certificate but it might be illegal to have two certificates. right?
May 26, 2017 at 19:02
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. I don’t know.
May 26, 2017 at 02:07
Hi. Simon. I hope you are fine! I’m addicted to your website! We already sent the package for AOS to Chicago. I was checking the timelines and I still have some questions: 1- How long does NOA arrive? They send to us some confirmation? 2- next step would be biometrics? And then interview 3- How much time would it take to finish the process approximately?
Thank you very much!
May 26, 2017 at 21:16
1. Usually by 2 to 3 weeks.
2. Yes, normally.
3. That varies greatly. Some FOs make the interviews quickly – some delay for a month or two and “batch together” processing. However, toward the end of the fiscal year they tend to move faster – and of course you can sometimes get faster interviews by “nagging” them with infopass appointments.
May 26, 2017 at 03:40
Hi Simon,
I am currently filling out the DS-260 form for the diversity immigrant visa. I have a few questions that I’m hoping you can help me with.
1. ‘ Have you ever been issued a U.S Visa’?
I have been to the US under the Visa Waiver Program for a holiday. Does this count as a VISA?
2. ‘ Do you seek to enter the United States for the purpose of skilled or unskilled labor but have not yet been certified by the secretary of labor?’
I’m going to sssume this is a yes as I do intend to work in the US. What would an appropriate answer be under explaination for this question? Do you have to go through a process to be certified by the secretary of labor or are some jobs automatically certified? NB. I am a junior and middle school teacher and actor.
Warm Regards,
Clare
May 26, 2017 at 19:03
1. No
2. Answer yes. There is no process to go through. It is not an important question for DV cases.

Hello Mr. simon
I have a few question regarding DS-260 form. I have already submitted the form.
1. I have entered up to high school diploma i.e. 2 on education, but, I have already completed master’s degree and have not entered those information in the form. so, will it be fine and should leave as it is or should I have to unlock the form and update the information?
2. My parents are currently residing in US, already having green card. so, on my parents current address, I have entered the address of my elder brother, who is the sponsor. however, the address of my parents from where green card has been issued is different, I mean the green card has been issued from another state. so, will there be any problem?
May 26, 2017 at 18:54
1. Make it accurate on the DS260.
2. No
May 26, 2017 at 12:07
Hello Brit,
As we know that visa bulletin of June mentioned the number 6400 for Nepal for the month July. Even though no one knows what will be the number next month, let’s say it becomes current in july for the month August. If it becomes current next month, will the person having case number 6415 from Nepal get 2NL or visa?
Thanks in Advance!!
May 26, 2017 at 13:58
Yes, obviously!
May 26, 2017 at 12:52

Hi Brits, I am scheduled for appointment for July 25, and I found an information on Embassy’s website leading to open an account to this link https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-et/iv/information/iv_services ..Titled as ” Welcome, U.S. Immigrant Visa Applicants
You are at the Official Immigrant (permanent) Visa support website for the U.S. Embassy in __.
But i have an appointment letter already from KCC, is it a must to make schedule for appointment on Official U.S. Department of State Visa Appointment Service
May 26, 2017 at 13:54
If the embassy tells you to register the account – then register.
May 26, 2017 at 13:14

I applied for my DV in October 2017 and fortunately i won. When i applying last year i was staying with this guy, as a husband and wife though we did not get married officially, and i included him in my application. Unfortunately around Christmas time he started staying away from our home for days. That is when i found out that he was legally married to someone else and he never told me. We broke up and we are no longer on speaking terms. Is it possible to return my DV application without him. Thanks Mary Chiuria.
May 26, 2017 at 18:41
Obviously your case is risky. If you choose to proceed, proceed as single and hope the CO believes your story.
May 26, 2017 at 15:37
Hy brit my case no is 2018AS71xx should i go for police certificates or wait for some time pl tell me approx duration of interview so that i could work on it
May 26, 2017 at 18:38

Hello,
I have submitted my DS-260 form and I am confused regarding my entry in education section. I have completed master’s degree, but I have only entered information up to high school diploma. will it make any difference not adding the further educational information because the requirement is at least high school diploma. And if it make the difference or if there will be problem later, then should I unlock the form?
Thanks
May 26, 2017 at 18:36
I would unlock and make it accurate.
May 27, 2017 at 09:26
Yes, it would have been better if I have included all my educational credentials. But the requirement is only at least 12 year course of elementary and secondary education, which I have completed and added those information in DS-260 form asAwell. so, I didn’t added my university degree information. Is it necessary to unlock the form?
May 27, 2017 at 15:40
It is better to answer the questions accurately – unless you want them to think you are trying to hide something.
May 26, 2017 at 16:43

Hi Simon,
A couple of basic questions here, my apologies if they have been asked and answered before:
1. At what point does the case get transferred to NVC and how can one find it out?
2. Is it possible to send any supporting documents to NVC (@Portsmouth??) before the case is transferred to the interviewing embassy?
Kind regards and thanks in advance.

Hi BRIT
DV-2018 — i have a question that if we set the marital status to single and get engage after submitting the DS-260 form but not get marry, does the engagement causes our case to be disqualified or not?
Thank You!
May 27, 2017 at 15:39
No – being engaged is no change to your marital status anyway!
May 27, 2017 at 10:31
Hello Simon
I was selected for the lottery 2018 but my husband works in Africa at oil platforms for a company that has agency in Macedonia . He took the salary in Macedonia but he rotate 40 days in Africa and 40 days in Macedonia. Is there necessity to fill in D260 all the address that he abide in Africa considering that he is there only 40 days? And is it necessary to take some document from the police from Africa ?
May 27, 2017 at 15:36
Macedonia is the home address – that is all that needs to be listed.
May 27, 2017 at 15:13
Hello again Simon 🙂
I have two questions in fact 🙂
First, I have completed my DS260 form, Im in 3000-4000 range of case numbers for europe 2018 🙂 I wonder when should I expect an email for my interwiev 🙂
Second, you told me about the re entry permit, well I made some calculations, and if I get the visa, Ill need aproximately 2 years to finish my studies in my home country, so I was wondering, can I get the re entry permit, the first time I enter USA, and claim the visa? 🙂
Thanks for answers, really apreaciate your hard work 🙂
May 27, 2017 at 15:24
Given that you want to delay your move, you should have delayed your DS260 submission. As it is, you will probably get an October/November interview. 2NLs are sent about 6 weeks before the interview month.
Yes you can apply for the re-entry permit on first trip – but you have to stay in the USA for about 6 weeks so you can have a biometric appointment. Once that is done you can leave – and you would later get approval for the I-131
May 27, 2017 at 15:33
Hello Brit

Hi
Sir
I want to know one thing while filling edv in October my Spouse surname spelling was mistake in last word and in her ds 260 form first page of personal information comes with same mistake spelling.so should I edit her Ds 260 form which was send by kcc and correct it or leave as it is on form and letter provide some documents to prove it
May 28, 2017 at 14:32
Make it correct on the DS260.
May 27, 2017 at 18:20
Hi Simon. I’ve been selected for the DV 2018 and I’ve already filled the ds260 form. I’m a masters student at the university and I’ve been receiving many scholarship and training offers from many sponsors out of my country . I wish to know if accepting any of these or flying out of the country before my interview can be a bad for my interview since I mentioned I’ve never travelled out of my country before. What if I travel before the interview, will it deprive me of my visa ?
May 28, 2017 at 14:30
No problem.
May 27, 2017 at 18:40
hi britsimon
my wife and I have been separated before my interview date, must i inform KCC about the the interview date
May 28, 2017 at 14:29
No. Separation is not a change of marital status.
May 27, 2017 at 18:49
Hi brit
I have one question
The Dv entrant i said i maried
Then
I don’t want my wife to be with me at the interview or bring to america beacouse we live different countries
So when i was filling DS260 there is a question says
Does you spouse want to travel with you ?
And i said No
So the question is
Do they ask me my wife at interview
Or do they need my wife to be interview with me?
Thanks brit
May 28, 2017 at 14:28
If she is not applying for the visa – then she does not need to be at your interview.
May 27, 2017 at 19:56
Hello Simon,
Sorry for bad English.
I have a question regarding my wife’s surname difference in original application form and DS 260 form. While applying lottery I wrote her maiden surname. Application was after marriage. Her surname changed in marriage document. But she did not change her surname in ID. In May we changed her ID and got passport according to marriage document. I want to know can this be problem in interview?
May 28, 2017 at 14:25
No problem.
May 28, 2017 at 06:03
Hello simon,
For 2018 dv winner, after how many months(maximum) we can start the process to fill the DS260 and others.

In DV entry – education, I have mentioned master’s degree, while in ds-260, i have only mentioned high school diploma. will there be any problem?
