Hi Brit,
I’m a Ghana dv2017 winner and my interview date is out. Can I do my police report and medical report after I get visa or it’s compulsory I get it before interview?
July 2, 2017 at 14:18
Before the interview. Ghana refuses a lot of cases – so follow the instructions precisely and prepare well for the best chance.

Hi Simon!
Thanks for a great website.
I’m a DV-2015 winner and live and work in the US. I met my boyfriend in the US. He has the O-1 visa. We’ve been talking about getting married this year. Would he be able to receive a green card as well if we marry? Thank you so much for the help
June 29, 2017 at 13:46
Yes
June 29, 2017 at 10:00
Hi Brits,
Thanks for valuable info and for time spent on replying 🙂
for I-134:
1- does it matter if the person in the US is residing in the same state that am planning to go to, or he can be anywhere in the US?
2- Can they send the I-134 directly to the embassy with the relevant case no?
3- if the I-134 was completed after the announcement of the selection of the DV lottery, does it have a time limit?
Thanks
June 29, 2017 at 13:45
1. Anywhere
2. No – they give the form and supporting documents to you.
3. Not a specific time limit – but it should be much more recent with recent supporting documents. Get it just before the interview.

Hello Bro ,This is Abraham , I have been place on AP since May 16, and my case has been updated three time now , the first was on the 23 of may andthe second was the 9 of may and the 3rd was the 28 of june . both of us. so what is the important of Last updated? please explain to me the idea you have my dear bro.
June 29, 2017 at 13:43
There is no “importance” of the updates. You cannot predict anything from the number or frequency of the updates.
June 29, 2017 at 10:27
Hi Simon.
I have a concern about a situation. I am a winner of DV2018. I am single and a child born 3 month ago. I add his name while filling my DS under family’s session. I don’t know if I have to fill a DS form for him since I mentioned that he will not move with me in USA, but later.
Thanks for your answer.
June 29, 2017 at 13:41
You only fill in a form for each person that wants a visa (Green Card). However, if you don’t get the visa through DV, it will take around two years to sponsor the child once you are living in the USA.
June 29, 2017 at 10:44
Hi Brit! My mom is a DV 2018 selectee. She doesn’t qualify through education because she has a part time high school degree and US embassy in Tirana doesn’t qualify that type of degree but she hopes to qualify through work experience because in the last 2 years she has worked as a kindergarten teacher a profession that based on onet online database qualify as job zone 4 with SVP>7. Her problem is that she is not legally employed(she works in black). Once she learned she was selected for further processing for the DV 2018 she asked her employer to legally register her and since the month of may she works legally. Do you know anyone that has qualified even though he/she has worked in black? Will the embassy accept it as work experience? I must say that in Albania working in black is very common. Your opinion Brit would be very very appreciated because we don’t know if it is worth trying it or not since the fees that we will pay on the date of the interview are not refundable.
June 29, 2017 at 13:39
I don’t know of any past case like that. If she can prove the whole time she was working” it might be worth a gamble – but there will obviously be a risk.
July 4, 2017 at 17:27
Joni, for more information there is an adress in fb named Dv Llotaria Amerikane ne Shqiperi-Konsulence falas. Be part of the group, so u can have a response from them. Good luck 🙂
June 29, 2017 at 14:14
thank for you input here my bro. I want to know during the administrative processing , if your your visa is approved can your CEAC status change before you been contacted by the embassy? get update from your visa status automatically from ceac. if you are on AP ?
June 29, 2017 at 14:27
Yes that can happen.
June 29, 2017 at 14:19
THANK MY BRO. I ALSO HAVE A CONCERN ABOUT YOUR ANSWER YOU STATED,
There is no “importance” of the updates. You cannot predict anything from the number or frequency of the updates……………….IF SO THAN WHAT IS THE REASON FOR FREQUENTLY UPDATING OR WHAT IS THE REASON FOR LAST UPDATE OR WHAT IS LAST UPDATE? please i am asking you because i really want to understand the issue of last update, if some cases are not updated from the day of their interview can they be contacted if they are place on AP ?
June 29, 2017 at 14:26
For goodness sake. There are many reasons for updates – and we don’t know the difference. So – there is NOTHING we can do to determine why an update happened. FORGET ABOUT the updates.
June 29, 2017 at 14:41
Good day sir,
Here is a question i need to ask sir, I apply for priority visa to the UK as a tier 4 general student and after the day of my interview i received a mail that they have sent my passport to sheildfield for confirmation. But the last mail i received from them saying that my application is not straight forward that they will inform me if decision as been taking to decide or not. Since from that very day no informaton sent to me and it as passed the 5 working days and now up to 60 working days. What should i should do?
June 29, 2017 at 16:13

June 29, 2017 at 17:23
Hi Brit,
I sent my embassy an email inquiring about changing my CP interview date.I was scheduled for August 10th but they told me the following.
Thank you for your email. Please note that your DV interview has been scheduled on August 3, 2017 at 7.30am instead of August 10 as previously communicated by KCC.
This got me confused because I did not ask them to change the date but was asking how to go about it if I wanted to change the interview date.Is this normal that the date communicated by KCC and the date set by the embassy can be different? I want a future interview date and can I get it on time?
June 30, 2017 at 00:34
It is normal. Contact them if you need to change it again.
June 30, 2017 at 04:53
and is changing the interview date wise considering I have till September 30th?How long do embassies usually take to change interview dates/
June 30, 2017 at 06:01
No, changing interview dates is normally unwise. Time to reschedule varies.
June 29, 2017 at 17:59
Hi Britt
Am a 2016 Dv winner, while playing the dv I made a mistake with the year I was born, I filled 1990 instead of 1995… I didn’t notice it until I won.. I was scared of changing it cos I was scared of anything that will cause disqualification… Now am in the United States but I need to correct the mistake to agree with my other documents.. Pls do you have any idea I can go about that…
I made a very wrong decision but I was just trying to be careful at the time… Thanks so much
June 30, 2017 at 00:33
I have no idea how to “fix” that since you must have shown false documents to get approved.
June 29, 2017 at 18:19
Hi Simon
I have a doubt, at this moment I am filling the form DS-260 and I want to add my husband and want to add it I ask for his data and in the end I have to upload a pdf file of the marriage certificate! To do that I get this message …. Please correct the following error (s):
Proof of Relationship Document: Webservice encountered a database error. Do not let me continue the process!
June 30, 2017 at 00:32
I don’t know how to fix that.
June 29, 2017 at 19:05

June 30, 2017 at 00:31
It doesn’t matter, no need to unlock.
October 15, 2017 at 20:47
Johny, I have the same error 🙁 How did you solve the problem?
June 29, 2017 at 20:17

1. at the ds260 form on my previous addresses should i declare my dislocation in afganistan although i was on duty?
2. now I am actually in afganistan for the fourth time should I declare the military base address as my actual address?
I would really appreciate if you could some how help me
thank you in advance
June 30, 2017 at 00:31

2. Yes
June 29, 2017 at 23:40
Hi, F2a category and just got interview letter but when registering online, the only visa class option is K1. What do I do?
June 30, 2017 at 00:27
I only answer questions about DV lottery cases.
June 29, 2017 at 23:42
Hi Brit,
Thanks for your timely supports, please, I want to know how does a person go about starting the process of having their derivatives left behind to join them before the 2017 dvlottery expires?
June 30, 2017 at 00:26
If someone has entered the USA without applying for visas for the derivatives, they will now have to use a family based route.
June 30, 2017 at 00:57
In that case, how long will it take in order to start the family based route process of getting their derivatives join them and what will be the requirements, could you please suggest a link where I can read in detail about this process. Let’s say the person was issued VISA for 2017 dv-lottery program and had traveled to the US March 2017.
June 30, 2017 at 01:01
I don’t know much about family based cases, so I cannot advise you.
June 30, 2017 at 01:07
Alright Brit, thanks so much once more for your support!
June 30, 2017 at 03:52
Another issue. I have received my immigration package yesterday and I want to pay the immigration fee. However the paperwork states that a DV visa should end in 5 numbers and my case number in the passport has 6 numbers i.e. xx9401 and the summary on the immigration envelope has only 4 numbers i.e. xx94 . Please advise .
June 30, 2017 at 04:08
I don’t know. I think you can figure it out…
June 30, 2017 at 05:24
Will the system accept UP TO 5 numbers so I can enter the 4 figures? Or omit the zero on the 6 figure . I didn’t want to create an account and then run into issues with ” invalid number ” or similar .
June 30, 2017 at 06:00
Again, I don’t know.
Again. TRY!
June 30, 2017 at 06:31
Hello Brit Simon,
I’m a selectee of DV2018.
I’m currently single and I have already submit DS260 form as single.
Im planning to get married in 2 months which is September.
1. My worry is that if I unlock my case at KCC to update would I not risk to loose this opportunity because my case number is low 2018AF6XXX as I am expecting to be called in the first bacthes which start in October?
2. If they unlock and update would that affect my interview date to be postpone to a later date?
Regards,
Yves
June 30, 2017 at 06:36
You should have waited to get married first before submitting your form. Unlock it now. If they haven’t started processing that MIGHT delay your case. Once you marry you resubmit as married. THat will obviously cause delay – but the delay is no problem. Your fear of delay has made things more complicated.
June 30, 2017 at 07:47
Hi BritSimon,
DV 2018 case,
Photocopies of original supporting documents as birth certs, marriage cert., school diplomas should be in color or Black & White ? Thank you
June 30, 2017 at 16:32
Whatever makes sense.
June 30, 2017 at 07:59
Good Morning Brit i attended my interview in Dec last year and was placed on AP due to a typo on my first name, for about 6 months i did not hear from the embassy, with efforts to reach them by email proving futile, that visa section would not receive calls either, on the 16th June i decided to visit the embassy, when i got there i was refused entry, but one of the receptionist went inside to inquire if i should be allowed entry, she came back and told me to return on the 19th of June at 1:00pm. On the 19th while i was inside, the CO called me to window 7, before i got to him i realized he had filled a denial form for me already, with reason for denial marked as other with the writing 221g unable to determine identity. now the issue is that i just checked my case status and realized it was updated on the 27th June while it still remains on Ready, i would like to know
1. Is it common to have updates on a case even after denial?
2. Can one be called again for a visa after he has been denied?
3. Does the update mean i still stand a chance? thank you
June 30, 2017 at 16:40
221(g) is Administrative Processing (AP) – it is a type of “denial” that CAN BE changed later. If they are able to determine identity – they could still approve – but that is only true until September 30th. If the case is not approved by then, you cannot get a visa.
June 30, 2017 at 08:47
hi.pliz when filling dv 260 is there a place that will require pictures upload or docs.
June 30, 2017 at 16:42
Typically not – only if you are adding an applicant because of recent marriage.
June 30, 2017 at 10:46
Hello brit am william from Kenya i was randomly selected for dv 2017 i live with my gf and my interview is on 26th next month and since we ain’t legally married we filled an appointment to get married and it will be on 11th next month and we will have our marriage certificate am asking is it wrong if i include her on DS260 since by the interview date we wil be having our certificate and known as legally married thanks.
June 30, 2017 at 16:48
You can’t unlock the DS260 now as you are already scheduled. How foolish to wait until the last minute for this LIFE CHANGING opportunity! All you can do is discuss it with the embassy.
June 30, 2017 at 10:51
hi brit.
I need help.
since 2015 i’ve ended high school .but It’s just now they give me my high school diploma .
Now i wanna know if it’ll be a problem during the interview because the date delivery is mentionned on the diploma
June 30, 2017 at 16:48
No problem.
June 30, 2017 at 11:01
Hi, Simon. You helped me last time so i decided to borrow your hand again.
I have some questions. My husband won green card lottery and we entered US on 14th June 2017. We paid green card fee (440$ for two persons) on May 8 2017 before entering the US. The receipt we received stated that each immigrant listed should receive their Green Card within 120 days of entry into the United States, or within 120 days after the USCIS Immigrant Fee is received, whichever occurs later. So we are waiting now. We have already received SSN (very fast, just 1 week of waiting). However, no bank agrees to open account for us unless we show them the real green card, not a visa stamped in the passport. My question, how it would be better to start credit history without bank account? Also what if I am hired tomorrow and the employer will ask for my bank account details to pay my salary, can they reject me because I do not have bank account and they cant pay me?
We also can not apply for driving licence (Washington DC) as they also requires us to provide green card. I really do not understand how they suppose people should live without bank account and driving licence for a such long period?!
Another question, me and my husband entered the US before our second anniversary of marriage, are there other documents we supposed to fill in because of that?
Thank you in advance.
Alizee
June 30, 2017 at 16:51
The endorsed temporary visa is enough for all banking, employers and DMV. They do not need to see the actual Green Card.
Nothing to do because of your anniversary.
July 1, 2017 at 10:52
They offered me to open non-resident account. But my friend says is is dangerous as it would mean that we are trying to avoid paying taxes as residents should pay. Not sure about this info.
DMV of Washington DC denied or application as they need to see the actual green card. So stupid….
BR,
Alizee
July 1, 2017 at 12:41
Go to a different bank, and a different DMV. Both answers are nonsense.
June 30, 2017 at 11:24
Please i play dv 2018 and i was not selected. Please when can i play dv 2019. Since some site are asking me to register there. Thank you
June 30, 2017 at 16:52

June 30, 2017 at 12:02
Hi Simon,
I recently came with my green card.Already received my plastic card after 3 weeks of time. My question is job recruiters asking the scan copy of my green card. Is it good to share with recruiters?
June 30, 2017 at 16:56
It’s OK.
June 30, 2017 at 12:31
Hi Simon, my wife is DV2018 winner and she filled me as husband in DS260 though she applied as single during the DV registration. In Ethiopia, you need to provide all required documents in separate folder early in the morning for afternoon interview. Thus, shall we submit all proof of marriage supportive documents along with marriage certificate in the morning session for afternoon interview like mutual financial statements. Because we noticed from others’ interview experience that sometime the consul may not give us enough time to prove or real relationship or may not raise the issue at all. This may contribute for visa denial. And, many proofs of marriage are allowed to bring during the interview period as per the U.S embassy, Addis Ababa guideline. Tanx!
June 30, 2017 at 16:58
Were you already married at the time of the DV entry? If so, your wife will be disqualified.
If you married since that time, you are expected to provide proof such as marriage certs. In addition you should take other proof of the relationship (photos, shared bills etc).
June 30, 2017 at 12:35
hi simo, iam still working as community service and national service from 2009 till now and they wont give me any recommendation letters for that.so my question is that i can fill it in my ds-260 form as work experience but is it compulsary to show those supporting documents(recommendation letters)at the interview or after?
thanks for your help.
June 30, 2017 at 16:59
You should fill it in the DS260.
June 30, 2017 at 12:36
Hello Brit

June 30, 2017 at 17:00
You mean submitting now? I doubt there is enough time.
June 30, 2017 at 17:10
Hello Brit, I have unlocked the form as u suggested, but I have confusions in filling the form, especially in work history questions. Please help me out here.
1. “Does this job require at least 2 years of training or experience?” what does this question mean? I did not get it. Does this mean that for this job eligibility 2 years of experience have been required or not?
2. “In which occupation do you intend to work in the US?” I am not sure of this. As I am currently working on health research field, can I just mention my field of interest?
3. In previous employment section, in supervisor name – can I mention don’t know? Because in my case, I guess my supervisor left his job and I am not sure where he works now and also I am not sure that he might or might not recognize me now, as I have only worked for couple of months with him and it has been almost 3 years from now that I left that job.
4. I have completed Masters degree, so what should I mention in “highest level of education completed” University degree or Advance degree?
5. In question “Do you have documentation to establish that you has received vaccinations in accordance with US law?” I have mentioned “NO”, but in the Explain box – what should I mention? Can I write “Not Available”?
June 30, 2017 at 22:31
1. It doesn’t matter whether you pick yes or no. So just answer the question.
2. Yes – again – it doesn’t matter.
3. Yes
4. You have a masters, but you don’t know what to pick???? Advanced.
5. Select no – and not available is fine.
June 30, 2017 at 20:20
Hi brit. ..
Someone told me about his family and he said me and my wife is very busy by work. when we arrive home we are very late, and our son is alone . So we need someone that be with our son. So if you ready for this thing I can bring you to USA and you can be with us. He said. And I told him that I’m ready for this chance. & he send me some emails and twitter pages and etc…
Then first you have to ask them additional information he said to me. And I’ve asked them via email and they told me all information .

June 30, 2017 at 20:42
Please I need your help, I’m a selectee of DV2018, my case number 2018AS000015XX, I sent DS-260 on 12th. of June, and my country is not included in the travel ban, but I’m worried about my daughter who reached 21 on 19/2/2017. Does she still have the opportunity to get a visa and travel with me if I get a visa?
Best regards
June 30, 2017 at 22:23
No. Her protection under the CSPA will run out in September – too soon for an interview.

July 1, 2017 at 10:25
Hi, thanks for the great information you are providing here.
I had a little problem with my application form.
I have won the lottery right after I got engaged, there is just a little problem that our marriage certificate date of birth of my spouse in marriage certificate and the date of birth on his passport don’t match, it was a human error the person responsible of data entry changed July for June. I used this certificate for the application and I upload it, does it effect my application if yes how can I go after it. Still I did not submit the application but my marriage certificate has been sent.

HI Brit
According to the DHS website in the following link, question number 5
https://www.dhs.gov/news/2017/06/29/frequently-asked-questions-protecting-nation-foreign-terrorist-entry-united-states
“visas may be revoked, or admission may be denied, based on legal requirements independent of the Executive Order.”
MY case is as follows, i’am Sudanese and my visa got issued on 28 june, and i have received my passport on 2 july, i want to travel to the USA in the following days, but i’am afraid that this ban thing may affect my visa because what they have stated is they are not going to revoke the visas but they may deny the admission in the borders. my questions are:
1- are these legal requirements new and solely applied to the nationals of the six countries ?
2- do you recommend that i travel to the states in the following days or it’s risky , because they may deny my admission in the airport?
3- some lawyers in forums say that people who has same situation to mine, should wait after the 90 days period to inter the states, is this correct?

Hi brit nice job u are doing,I have a confusing situation on my hands.i won the dv 2018 with cn AF465×× but now while filling parents information I changed my mother’s info since she is of blessed memory and replaced it with my grand mums info as my mother.this was to ease the chances of one day bringing my grand mum to the states that’s yy I filled her as my mum but the issue now is
1- on my birth certificate I have but my biological mum’s names not that of my grand mother so I want to find out if I can do another birth certificate so I can enter my gr mums name for mothers name since there is no space in the passport and my academic documents indicating parents name which I will use for the interview
2-should I unlock the form and refill the correct info but then that hinders my gr mum travelling w ease some day to the US since she virtually brought me up after losing my biological parents so young
3-in case unlocking the form is the best option such noticeable change of info in parents info;can’t it hinder my chances of getting a visa.
4 – getting a new birth certificate is easier in my country can I just do a new one and effect the changes I want?
Thanks brit I will be waiting for your answer

1. You need to tell the truth.
2. You must unlock and correct the form.
3. Lying certainly hinders your chances of getting a visa. So – you have no choice.
4. No.

I have job offer from a company in US and still in administrative processe. ( applicant of lottery 2017 in AP )
it seems to be VERY UNUSUAL and usually suspicious but actually after wining in lottery , we as a family weren’t sure for immigration and with helping and asking of one of our relations who lives in US , we decided to go and work for him.but now we can just get a simple job offer from him ( as a simple letter which is not legal documentation ) to show to the officer. is that ok from your opinion ?
July 2, 2017 at 14:08
A job offer with a family member will not be considered genuine.
July 2, 2017 at 16:32
Please tell me how can I explain to the officer to believe me ?
July 3, 2017 at 14:40
I doubt they will believe this is a genuine job offer – even I don’t believe you.
