October 22, 2017 at 06:32
Hi Simon.
Please i want to ask you a question.
Filling in the dv 2019 form the place of city of birth. A country like Kenya has only 3 cities and my place of birth is not included in any of the three cities its just a district not a town nor city. The section of city of birth in the dv form there are two options
1. City of birth
2. Unknown city
Since i am included in any of the 3 cities is it advisable yo choose the second option ie ” birth unknown” or will that create any issues
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.I APPRECIATE YOUR GOOD WORK.

Hello Simon,
I have finished high school (12 years and got the degree too) and I‘m actually studying electrical engineering, 3rd semester, which means I dont have bachelor degree not yet. What should I fill as my highest educational achievement, Some University Courses or High school Degree?
Thank you in advance

Whatever you think is more accurate.
October 22, 2017 at 12:03
hi
I have received my 2NL and the date of my interview which will be in Dec. My question is there any possible way to postpone it for a month or so? and how? I appreciate the help you are extending to me and all of us Thanks
October 22, 2017 at 15:11
You can ask the embassy to postpone – but there is risk that you get delayed more than you want – so I advise against it.
October 22, 2017 at 12:18
I’ve been scheduled for an interview in December. I want to know if I will need an affidavit of support (i-134) I’m from Ghana
October 22, 2017 at 12:29
Coming back again
Can u say something on the complication and its degree
October 22, 2017 at 15:09
Normally not in Accra. They ask about a host.
October 22, 2017 at 13:11
1-Hi Brit, i wanna ask a question. In the form I-134 part 3, 38 If my sponsor check the option ‘DO NOT INTEND to make specific contributions..’ would it be a problem for the CO ?
2-And also wanna ask that my sponsor filled another affidavit of support once throughout marriage for his wife.
Does it cause any problem for the case ??
October 22, 2017 at 15:06
I answered both these questions yesterday. Please respect my time.
October 22, 2017 at 15:32
But Brit it is confusing the answers are not matching properly with the questions that is why I asked again. I don’t intend to waste your time that’s not my hobby 🙂 we really appreciate what you do. Thank you for everything. If you answer again that would be great. Thank you.
October 22, 2017 at 15:31

October 22, 2017 at 15:22
THE WEBSITE WAS HAVING THAT PROBLEM BUT ITS BACK TO NORMAL
October 22, 2017 at 16:02
Hey BritSimon,
I have a quick question about the education requirements. If I’m in High School right now with a graduation date in June 2018 (far before my interview date should I win), should I check off the some high school or high school diploma as of today? I’m concerned if I check off some high school the computer will disqualify me instantly, but if I check the diploma I’m concerned they’ll disqualify me at the time of interview (should I win) for misrepresenting my application.
Thanks,
Andy
October 22, 2017 at 16:04
The education level chosen doesn’t affect selection. Choose the truth TODAY.
October 22, 2017 at 17:36
Mr. Simon
I would like to find if the same email address is used for multiple applicant, will it affect the applicants in any way?
October 22, 2017 at 20:21
No problem.
October 23, 2017 at 00:41

October 22, 2017 at 18:42

October 22, 2017 at 19:54
Hi BritSimon, We (my wife and I) received our green cards about 5 weeks ago but we have not yet received out SSN, is this normal? We go there to live on Saturday, should we just go to the Social Security office as soon as we get there (Monday)? Many thanks for your advice!
October 22, 2017 at 20:18
Go to the SSA office.
October 22, 2017 at 20:28
Hi brit. I came to the us 4 days ago. Waiting for my ssn and green card. Few of my colleagues say that i have to go to the ss office and few say i don’t have to go I’ll receive the letter on my own. What is the thing do i have to go to us or not?
October 22, 2017 at 20:37
In the DS260 you chose an option of whether USCIS would apply for your SSN or not. So – it depends what you selected.
October 22, 2017 at 21:33
Can you please tell me how that question is asked because i searched in my DS260 and the questions did not specify exactly saying you’ll receive in your address. Thank you
October 22, 2017 at 23:27
It’s there, check more carefully.
October 22, 2017 at 22:09
And also we changed our location on the immigration. Do we need to tell that to the ssa office
October 22, 2017 at 23:25
Yes – obviously.
October 22, 2017 at 20:40
PLEASE HOW CAN I CHECK THE VALIDITY OF DV-2019 CONFIRMATION NUMBER
October 22, 2017 at 23:26
If you entered and got a number, then you know it is valid.
October 22, 2017 at 21:55
Hi simon sorry i want to open ds260 to delete the educational institution studied after the baccalaureate because I lost the diploma if you delete the doubt will be on the day of the interview and ask the consul why the school was deleted and thank you
October 22, 2017 at 23:24
You don’t delete a school because you lost the diploma. You get a copy of the diploma.
October 22, 2017 at 22:30
Hello mr Simon.
I’ve an interview on November 7 and for the financial proof I was planning to show I-134 however I’ve changed my mind and decided to show my bank account which has 15K for now. But as of tomorrow I’ll put 7-8 K more which is totally (23-24K) above than the numbers indicated in HHS poverty guidelines 2017 for 2 person family (just me and my wife immigrating). Beside 24K money in my bank account in the past I worked in the USA and I have bachelor degree thus I could show to CO that I could easily find a job as soon as I arrive to USA, so I won’t be a public charge with this qualifications
1-Do you think that money and qualifications are enough for the CO to be satisfied with financial proof of me and wife ?
2-And is this a problem to put money not the all but 10K out of 24K just before two weeks before the interview ?
3-And the people say the embassy consider the HHS poverty guidelines for financial proof when they look at the bank statement is that true ?
4-If it is true for two person family 19K would be enough. what do you think about it ?
October 22, 2017 at 23:23
1. Probably.
2. No
3. No – they look at poverty guidelines when evaluating an I-134.
4. Repeat of 1.
October 22, 2017 at 23:04
Hey brit. I’ll be getting my ssn in 3-4 weeks porbably so do we need the ssn to register in selective service?
October 22, 2017 at 23:21
Any male under age 26 needs to register.
sss.gov
October 22, 2017 at 23:53

October 23, 2017 at 03:09
Read the website to see what you need.
October 22, 2017 at 23:07

October 23, 2017 at 00:15
sir my apologies first since I am asking a silly question and wasting your time but just to hear from you will ease the tension selectees face while waiting. What is the probability of OC 10xx to be called for an interview in 2018 since it seems things and predictions might have changed.
October 23, 2017 at 03:08
Certain.
October 23, 2017 at 01:23
Hi Simon,
I won DV2018 however my case number is OC21XX (so I doubt we will get an an interview as it’s such a high case number for OC)… Can my husband and I both enter the DV2019 now even though we have submitted our DS260 for winning DV2018? THANK YOU so much for your time : )
October 23, 2017 at 03:05
Yes, no problem.
October 23, 2017 at 02:02
hi Brit i submit multiple times in dv2019 but with different pictures is that considered as disqualification ? thanks buddy!
October 23, 2017 at 03:04
I hope so, yes.
October 23, 2017 at 06:04

October 23, 2017 at 13:30
There is nothing you can do. If you are selected, don’t bother proceeding.
October 23, 2017 at 08:14
Hi Simon
I have completed entry form Diversity visa program DV 2019 as principal applicant , but I have recognized an mistake after I get the confirmation . The mistakes consist in the fact that in our country the middle name it is not applicable . But having into consideration the translation of the instruction , in our language from US embassy where was written “Do not put father name as middle name , but put N/A” , I have entered to my self (principal applicant ) and to my spose and my kids as middle name NA where in fact all of us do not have it.
Does exist any possibility to correct the middle name in the EDV 2019 and inform Bureau of Consular Affair ?
It is considered as double entry , when I make a new entry but now with correct information means without the middle name “NA”?
Thank you in advance for your reply!
October 23, 2017 at 13:29
You cannot correct it. Don’t enter twice.
October 23, 2017 at 08:29
my name in the dv initial form is not exactly as on my passport. But I correct it in the DS 260 form
October 23, 2017 at 13:28
OK
October 23, 2017 at 09:00
Good Day Sir. I just wish to know why I can’t check my case number on CEAC. Any prob? Thanks
October 23, 2017 at 13:27
It is normal – 2018 cases are not in the system until January.
October 23, 2017 at 13:29
Thanks very much for the wonderful job your doing sir. I really Appreciate. Allah Bless you
October 23, 2017 at 09:57
Hi BritSimon.
I have question : i want to change my Interview Location and i emailed KCC and they unlocked my DS260 but the problem is i can’t change the Location of Interview so what do you think the problem is? Thank you Sir.
October 23, 2017 at 13:24
That is normal. You cannot change the interview location. You change the address, and ask them to change the embassy.
October 23, 2017 at 13:46
Hi Simon,
Hope you’re doing good!
Am gonna apply for the DV2019 lottery, I have a doubt for which your input would be of great help to me. Actually am playing based on my parents born country Srilanka as I was born in India which is not eligible, now my concern is can I acquire a passport if am selected in the lottery by May after getting to know the results ? will there be any shortage of time such as do I need my passport by may itself to fill any other forms after the selection immediately or can I get it after the results? Am asking this because I will not be issued an Indian passport because they see me as a Srilankan since my parents are of Srilankan citizens thus to get a Srilankan passport I should travel to Srilanka after getting an one time paper passport to travel to Srilanka only (which takes 2months to process) and flying down there I should get my passport and get back to India. Thus am confused if I can do this after verifying if am selected since it affects my work in India or should I get a passport before the results are out?
Since am not aware of when I will need a passport in this dv process I would need your valuable input.
Thanks.
October 23, 2017 at 14:06
You can only apply through the country of your parents IF they were in your country of birth temporarily (and you can prove that).
October 23, 2017 at 14:16
My father is no more and my mother is in India only for the last three decades legally registering as a srilankan national every 6 months in India, I hope this will be accepted for the dv2019 lottery eligibility. But also my main query was when do I need a passport during the dv process, can I get the passport after seeing the results in May’2018 or should get my passport before may’2018 itself irrespective of the results and keep it ready?
October 23, 2017 at 10:50
Dear Simon
The thing am worried about is ,when i applied for Dv program ,the education i was putting was high school no degree..when am invited for the interview.if they ask me why you put high school no degree option if you already have a diploma …i was afraid of this question?
does they have any information about my educational status on the interview..please help me am worried.
October 23, 2017 at 13:23
It is not a problem. Relax
October 23, 2017 at 10:57
i haven’t been interviewed yet .but that is threat .
October 23, 2017 at 11:12
Dear Simon,
I won the DV2018 lottery (OC) and expect to be interviewed early next year. Is it possible to hold a green card but complete study in a degree outside of the US? I deferred an offer to study law (before the result came out in May), a course that would take three years to complete, starting in 2018. I’ve read about the re-entry permit, and also comments from others in similar situations, but I was wondering what your opinion on the matter would be (the message I get is mixed)? I understand that the USCIS requires one to demonstrate that they operate with the intent of someone who resides in the US (so, maintain ties), but I’m also under the impression that they can allow study abroad since it’s temporary.
Any advice you can give would be appreciated.
Thank you for your efforts here.
Kind regards,
Lucas
October 23, 2017 at 13:20
I think 3 years is too long – you would have some risk. There is no definitive answer, it’s a gray area. USA has Universities – and by the way, your marketability in law would be increased with an America law degree – because the Americans would recognize the University.

Ngugi Jedidah
Hello Sir,i filled in an entry on Saturday 21st October 2017 through my phone and after submitting my details I did not get a confirmation kindly advise on what I should do.Thank you.
October 23, 2017 at 13:18

October 23, 2017 at 11:43
Hi Brit ,
I won the DV 2018 and my Casenumber is EU80XX. I think could probably count on an interview in January, February 2018.
Would you suggest that I should take part at the DV 2019 . I thought my husband and myself should maybe sign in,you never know.
Thank you very much
October 23, 2017 at 13:17
There is no harm in applying for DV2019
October 23, 2017 at 11:55
Mr Simon
You said that there are many people concentrate in low case number
Q1.this may be risk to high case number like (af20xxx) in egypt because the visa available will reduce?
Q2. Vb in previous year was high because there aren’t concentrate in low case number ?
October 23, 2017 at 13:16
1. AF20XXX is not high
2. Previous years were the same.
October 23, 2017 at 14:13
This year like previous year
But this slow down in VB in egypt or in all countries because the the change of ds260 process or there another reason?

Hello Simon,
I ahd attened interview for my minor son’s visa after I130 approval on sept 27th.
During the interview the consular hardly asked any questions, they returned I130 petition documents that were sent from NVC to mumbai but then they issued me 221g slip and asked me to submit all relationship proofs between me my son and my husband who is the petitioner.
I already have a greencard from my husband through AOS and i was working in USA , and now after 1 year i applied for my son’s visa since i wanted to get my son to usa only after i get a good job and settle with a house and now in a years time me and my hsuband did buy a house and i have a really great job .
Now coming to the point , the consulates in mumbai are just issuing me 221g and have put my minor sons cr2 visa on adminstrative processing and i am stuck in indai for almost a month now and my company back in usa wants me back, please give me some suggestion as to how i can expediate this and can uscis really deny my only minor son’s visa when we have provided all the documents to them??
October 23, 2017 at 13:16
I only answer DV lottery questions.
October 23, 2017 at 12:10
Hello Simon, I’m about to apply again for the DV 2019, but I have a question, before I do that! Me and my wife have a different addresses on our ID’s and passports, but we live together practically.
I want it to ask, if it’s a problem for applying or does it makes less chance to be selected or if some of us win, is that could be a problem for the interview?
October 23, 2017 at 13:15
Shouldn’t be a problem.
October 23, 2017 at 12:51
Hello Simon.
Please i realised that i used the wrong email to register for my brother. . Will it cause problems?
October 23, 2017 at 13:13
No
October 23, 2017 at 13:25
Hello Mr Brit, hoping that all is well, I wish to know why I can’t check my case number? It says invalid each time that I enter the case number
October 23, 2017 at 13:39
DV2018 cases won’t be in CEAC for status checking until January.
October 23, 2017 at 13:36
Hi Britsimon,
I have a question that doesn’t seem to be addressed on your incredibly compressive website!
Background:
I was selected for further processing for the DV2018 with OC16XX. As it was my first ever entry, I followed the instructions to the letter and completed the DS260 almost immediately. Only after a few hours of reading did I begin to understand the process, and how I probably shouldn’t have filled in the petition as early as I did.
I am set to graduate in Dec 2017, and am considering a J-1 intern visa for the beginning of 2018 while I wait until Sep 2018 to find out if by some miracle my selection number is reached.
From what I understand, a pending DS260 application will most likely be fatal to a J-1 application (which doesn’t allow dual-intent). I have read your FAQ explaining how a DS260 can be unlocked for amendments, but can a D260 application be completely withdrawn? That would at least make the immigrant intent hurdle a little more manageable. If that is possible, when would you suggest I resubmit an application (or is it difficult to know that until you’ve had the chance to look at the density)?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
AusMile
October 23, 2017 at 13:39
No you cannot withdraw the application. The J1 could still be approved anyway, you have to show that you intend to return home. Also, be aware some J1s have a two year home residence requirement.
October 23, 2017 at 13:47
Hi Brit! I have changed one of my high school transcripts since it have minor error and used recent photo. Would it have any problem? 10q
October 23, 2017 at 14:07
No problem that I know of.
October 23, 2017 at 13:53
Hello,
I was wondering if you had some feedback from the people who already got their interview for DV2018 ? I tried to find some on your article about interview stories but I only found the one for 2017.
