Hello Mr. Brit Simon
How are you today.
I got win of dv 2018 and handling my father business at a very young age but could not study till high school and left study after grade 10th but with passing certificate.
For my interview schedule on October-28-2017, I fear if I’ll be completely denied for visa because at the dv form there was no option of selecting for business but I selected high school no degree.
Please suggest what papers I should carry along with me during interview.
Thanks you.
October 23, 2017 at 17:01
Check the education requirements for your country. If you don’t meet the requirement they will refuse you.
October 24, 2017 at 02:31
Hello Mr.Brot Simon, thanks you for the reply. Education requirement for the dv is same for all the countries, perhaps u not getting my point that, as u know on dv form they just ask on education level but not occupation, on ads-260 asked for other details too, Wht I hve filed for education till 10th and on occupation business on my name doing since last 9yrs.
Now pls tell me if I carry my grade 10th certificate documents and my business registration documents and my bank details is that all legitimate documents for successful dv visa?
Thanks you !
October 24, 2017 at 03:08
Work experience has different criteria. As a self employed person, it is hard to meet the requirements.
October 25, 2017 at 13:38
Oh really. You obviously expect me to come to your house and do everything for you. You haven’t bothered to read the FAQs and now think it’s OK and give me bad attitude. It isn’t OK. I won’t bother with you.
October 26, 2017 at 01:17
Mr.Brit Simon, I m a businessman and during interview if I just go with my Business registration documents and a bank balance statement, is that be enough to get for visa ? Because I beings businessman is that not a plus point?
October 26, 2017 at 01:30
After your rude comments, I am not going to answer any of your questions.
October 26, 2017 at 07:17
@tivallu, one thing that you seems to miss, the owner of this site is brittsimon, he can make any rule as he seems fits, we are just a visitor trying to get free advice from someone that obviously know much more than us, for FREE, in the place where dog bark, then bark, don’t bite, follow the rule and everything will be just fine
I can’t imagine if you were granted GC, a very high probability you will make problem in the land of dream, damn it
I have got valuable tip here for FREE, as many others, respect others please

Hi! Sorry Brit, my Mother is a widow am asking is it possible after getting my green card maybe after 2 years can i take her to US and live with me?
October 23, 2017 at 20:17
No. You would have to wait until you are a citizen (5 years)
October 23, 2017 at 19:20
Hello, Dear Brit.
My question is about sheduling an interview. I’m currently in the US and when I submitted ds-260 I chose Consular processing in my country over AoS, and in address section I mentioned my current address where I live now in the US. I’d like to wait until I get 2NL and then travel to my country. AFAIK my interview is scheduled accordingly to my address. Wouldn’t it be a problem for scheduling an interview, that I have an US address in DS260 as my current address, not my country address? I didn’t choose my country address since I don’t currently live there and that would be a lie I thought.
Please tell me if I should unlock my DS260 and change the current address?
Thank you so much for your help and I hope I don’t bother with questions already answered. I couldn’t find similar information.
Best regards!
October 23, 2017 at 20:18
Contact KCC and confirm they know you are electing CP, and that they will schedule the interview in your home country.
October 23, 2017 at 21:21
Thank you for your helpful response!
October 24, 2017 at 07:49
Hi Dmitriy,
I hope you get your interview soon and everything goes well. I am in the sam situation as yours. I am currently studying here in the US and won the 2018 DV. However, I just filled my AOS this month. Is there a reason why you chose to do your interview in your home country? is it because of the long wait here? I mean I kinda regret my decision now knowing the fact of how long it takes to get interviewed which might even not be before September 30th. Good luck
October 25, 2017 at 03:54
Hi.
Yeah I chose Consular processing because it seems to me not so complicated as AoS. My case number is not that low, and I decided it would be safer to go with CP.
Don’t regret anything, I think you may change it anytime if you think it’s better for you. Idk if it’s worth it, you should talk to someone more aware of this topic.
Thank you and best of luck!

Good morning, Mr. Brit
Friend of mine dv lottery winner 2018 with he has small number, he has interviewe in 10/29/2017 but when he applied for jordan visa because they schedule his interview their, he got refused. What should he do in this case? What’s process to Change interview to another country?
October 24, 2017 at 13:22
The process is to contact another embassy and ask them if they will accept the case and schedule an interview, and then contact the original embassy and ask them to transfer the case.

I already finished my ds260 form(family based) in June and submit in June. Today I open it to take some printouts. But unfortunately I pressed add new applicant in that account. But I pressed cancel. So this makes in delay or something? (When I pressed new applicant it shows a form. In that form I cancel it)
October 24, 2017 at 16:26
No problem.

Britt’s kindly help,my interview appointment is on Dec,so I need to take the medical test for my whole family,my husband is a tobacco smoker, can his TB test turn positive? If he is found to have TB can it cause denial of the visa?Him being the principal applicant can it be treated?
October 24, 2017 at 18:31
If he has untreated TB, he will be delayed while he gets treatment. Once treated he can be approved.
October 24, 2017 at 17:16
Hi Brit, and thank for your time.
I’m in USA since 3 week now with B1/b2 visa, for business purpose.
Can wait and apply as AOS.
CN2018AF00011***
I think will be current before the end of my I-94
October 24, 2017 at 17:57
Don’t even try that. If they believe you entered the USA with intention to adjust status you will be denied and will destroy your chance.
October 24, 2017 at 21:17
Thank You very much,
I will back home and wait my 2nl, and continu with CP
But I was not entered the USA with intention to adjust status.
If this process is risky, I better continu with CP
October 24, 2017 at 22:03
Hello Simon
Im a winner of DV2018
When I firstly filled up my application I remember I took picture with my iPhone, however with all the standarts…
my questions:
1. Would the website let me complete my application is pictures’ parameters were not correct?
2. Is there a big chance of being disqualified if the pictures are little bit out of standarts?
Thanks for your time and effort
October 25, 2017 at 00:34
1. Possibly, yes
2. No.
October 25, 2017 at 00:40
I have been chosen winner for the visa 2018, but I am afraid i Could not meet some of the requirements, should i go ahead and fill out the DS 260 or is not good? would it affect me if I wanted to apply later for some kind of visa in the future
October 25, 2017 at 01:14
If you don’t think you can meet the requirements there is no point in proceeding with the DS260.
October 25, 2017 at 01:44
Hey! Just having a thought regarding changing the interview date t Jan or Feb – do you know if this to any disadvantage? Is changing it quite easy to do? Thanks so much!
October 25, 2017 at 01:49
Normally I recommend people do not change the appointment, it can cause problems.
October 25, 2017 at 00:52
Hey guys! Interview set for dec 12th in sydney – im living in la right now and wondering timing of it all. Medical people have said i might need to go as early as 3 weeks prior. This is making me wonder if I can do my medical here in LA so I dont miss too much work here in LA? Also, do police clearances have to be done once Im in sydney? Anddd highschool diploma, i dont have any originals we dont get them in Australia. All I have is a certified letter they emailed me saying I attended school and the dates and signed by the principal. Thank you SO much for the help!
October 25, 2017 at 01:14
No you cannot do the medical in LA. It must be in AUS. You can probably cut down the 3 weeks, but don’t forget the passport will take a few days to be given back after the interview.
You should be able to apply for police certs from LA.
You will need more education proof than a simple letter of attendance.
Please read the instructions carefully.
October 25, 2017 at 01:17
Thank you! Is there a full outline of all the instructions? Im finding it hard to find an exact step by step where everything is fully thorough and clear!
October 25, 2017 at 01:19
In your selected letter there is a link. Follow that link and read carefully.
October 25, 2017 at 05:46
Thank you! Reflecting on it all I might be cutting it fine and might try to change interview to Jan or Feb do you know much about process of changing interview date and whether it could be a disadvantage?
October 25, 2017 at 01:56
Hi Brit,
Do you thing that 2019 Dv lottery is the end DV entry(no more dv lottery)?
Thank you
October 25, 2017 at 02:05
I don’t know.
October 25, 2017 at 04:15
Hi Brit. When my visa got approved I was a given a two paged sheet with a website on it. It says I should visit the site and create account if I want to retrieve my passport. The problem is when filling the details they ask for priority date which I don’t know. Can you clarify this for me base on my dv case? Thanks
October 25, 2017 at 04:27

October 25, 2017 at 13:43
Unlocking is only needed if you have to make changes to your DS260.
October 25, 2017 at 08:34
hello
i wanted to know if i have to unlock from ds 260 bcs when i completed it i said i had only high school diploma, but 1 month later i got my university degree bcs i was on my last year of university when i completed ds 260. October 25, 2017 at 13:42
I would suggest you unlock. It won’t cause delay.
October 25, 2017 at 10:52

October 25, 2017 at 11:53
Dear Brit
I got approved for a greencard last month and I am left with activating the greencard by entering the US.I am currently based in Abu Dhabi and my visa for US entry expires next year February. I read from one of your articles that Abu Dhabi is a US POE. I was wondering whether I could just go to the airport and have them endorse my visa without having to book a flight and fly to the US. Reason for this is I still have one semester to study here in the UAE but want to activate the visa while here.
Thank you
October 25, 2017 at 13:32
No you can’t do that.
October 25, 2017 at 13:52
what exactly do they do at Abu Dhabi POE in terms of immigration processing. Is it the point where I would get my I-555 or I would only get it once I enter the US?
October 25, 2017 at 13:56
For people on flights to the USA, they process immigration before the flight leaves – which includes endorsing the I-551.
October 25, 2017 at 14:03
so once they endorse the I-551 at the Abu Dhabi airport I could technically miss a flight a booked flight to the US, and still remain with a valid Greencard? as in once they endorse the I-551 is there a pressing need to go into the US?
October 25, 2017 at 14:21
No. Because you would not have landed – why try and be clever and risk the LPR status????
October 25, 2017 at 14:33
I might not be able to afford the return flight thats why
October 25, 2017 at 17:51
If that is the issue you should consider whether you have the resources to move to the USA at all. It’s not cheap here!
October 25, 2017 at 15:33
Hi Brit.
Please I need yr help.
It s just now that I’ve got my high school. Since 2015.
There is a mistake on my high school diploma.
Instead writing PROFIL they write RROFIL.
Is it a problem?
October 25, 2017 at 17:48
No
October 25, 2017 at 16:08
Is there any risk of visa denial if you have low grades in high school certificate
October 25, 2017 at 17:48
Yes
October 25, 2017 at 19:09
Dear Simon,
I have my medical in 2 weeks and my interview in 3 weeks. About my interview: if I look at the website they tell me to bring a birth certificate, high school diploma (I also have a bachelors degree, should i bring that too?), police records and photo’s. On your website you advise to bring other documents proving that you will be able to take care of yourself there, will a transcript from my bank account suffice? Is this mandatory?
Assuming all goes well i should be in the United States by May to pick my green card up. I was wondering if you have any idea how long it takes from the moment you enter the States, till the moment you’ll get your green card in the mail. Do you have to wait to get your green card in the mail or can you re-enter on the visa that you get at the embassy? Reason i’m asking is because my godmother lives in FL and she’s terminally ill, so i kinda wanna visit her over the holidays, but i can’t take off work too long (I work in accounting so December and January are rather busy months)
Thank you so much for your time.
October 25, 2017 at 19:26
Number individual questions.
October 25, 2017 at 19:31
1) is a bank statement enough proof that you can take care of yourself in the US (if you have more than 10.000 USD in there.
2) is a bank statement or anything likewise mandatory? It didn’t show up on the US website that tells you what documents to prepare.
3) I was wondering if you have any idea how long it takes from the moment you enter the States, till the moment you’ll get your green card in the mail.
4) Do you have to wait to get your green card in the mail or can you re-enter on the visa that you get at the embassy?
October 25, 2017 at 19:53
1. Usually that would be enough for a single person.
2. You should have something ready to show. They might or might not ask.
3. 1 to 4 months
4. You can re-enter on the endorsed visa.
October 25, 2017 at 20:02
Thank you a lot!
October 25, 2017 at 19:38
So how many grades does they want in high school level
October 25, 2017 at 19:53
It varies by embassy. I don’t know all the embassies requirements.
October 25, 2017 at 20:23
@Tivallu,you do not have the right to address Brit Simon the way you just did.People should just appreciate the fact that he is not doing this for money but to help people who really need help and at times he may not adequately answer some of the questions especially stupid ones. Also remember,he did not make the DV Lottery rules, now if you do not qualify just do not waste people’s valuable time by being a nuisance. The instructions are plain and simple. That simply shows how myopic your mind is.@Brit Simon, keep up the good work. You have helped not only me to overcome the huddles towards getting a DV visa based on the advice you give on this plartform.
October 25, 2017 at 22:23
Hello @Simon,
A selectee asked me to post a question, she has the right surname in all docuements but high school degree she has another letter instead of a letter in her surname in ARABIC LANGUAGE but it’s correct in english in all documents and high school also.
Do you think that the CO will consider it as a fraud or is it okay since it’s all right in English?!
October 25, 2017 at 22:24
Thank you in advance
October 25, 2017 at 23:51
It should be OK
October 26, 2017 at 00:03
I have completed and submitted form ds-5501 for the dv lottery 2019 session and I have received the confirmation page. After printing this page, I realized I made a mistake on my date of birth. How can I correct this mistake? Can I make a second submission and will it be considered as a double entry?
October 26, 2017 at 00:07
You cannot make a second entry. If you are selected, you can correct the problem then. But first, get selected.
October 26, 2017 at 04:22

October 26, 2017 at 04:37
Hi Brit,
Just wanna ask on behalf of a brother. Can he apply for U Visa? He was promised by a relative to move to the States to work for her and he will get a much better life there. He ended up selling his business and resigned from his job. He took his wife and two little children. After 7 months and his visitors visa got expired, there were no promises made as he was told and her mother kicked him out. He was suffering as he didn’t know where to go with his family and felt so bad for his two little kids. Where he’s from is far, no money to pay fares to go back and he lost everything he had back in his country.
Do you think he can apply for U Visa under trafficking and fraud employment contract?
October 26, 2017 at 05:26
I only answer DV lottery questions.
October 26, 2017 at 05:32
Okay thank you
October 26, 2017 at 05:11
I was born in an ineligible country while my father worked their temporarily on contract. However, my parents were both born in an eligible country. This allows me to claim chargeability to my parents’ country of birth.
The DV instructions says that we can provide an explanation in the DV entry form in Question #6 to explain why we are claiming chargeability to a different country than the one we were born in. I do not see any place within the electronic form to provide the explanation. Is there an alternative way to explain my exception at the time of applying online?
October 26, 2017 at 05:28
No – you will explain at the interview if selected.
October 26, 2017 at 07:59
Thank you very much. I really appreciate the quick reply. Thanks a lot.
October 26, 2017 at 05:42
Hi Brit
If win the lottery visa next year and the visa is expired will they still allow to process papers?
October 26, 2017 at 05:55
Sorry Brit
If visitors visa expired
October 26, 2017 at 12:27
This process does not have anything to do with a visitors visa.
October 26, 2017 at 15:32
Hi Brit
I’m so sorry for asking again. So if win the lottery while in the States and the visitors visa is expired, so that means it won’t matter but still proceed with papers?
October 26, 2017 at 16:14
Ahhh you had not mentioned being in the USA – no that is not OK. You cannot adjust status in the USA if you have overstayed. You need to leave and make sure you don’t get an automatic ban.
October 26, 2017 at 17:23
Okay …thank you so much for your time. God bless!
October 26, 2017 at 07:47
Hi Brit,
I wonder if you would be able to help me with an issue of mine. I changed my passport recently and do believe that my DS260 should be updated before the interview (which might be in January as I participate in DV2018) but the form has been submitted by a lawyer, initially. My query is: Am I able to amend the form by contacting KCC or this has to be done by my lawyer?
Thank you.
October 26, 2017 at 12:19
You can amend your form yourself.
October 26, 2017 at 09:04
hi brit:
I am a DV 2018 winner at the age of 19 and I am married already but,am, I eligible to add my husband on the program ? Will it not be a problem during interview because of my age?
October 26, 2017 at 12:18
No problem.
October 26, 2017 at 09:19
Hello Mr. Simon, A friend of mine has been selected and his case number is AF201811***. She maybe due for interview somewhere early January.
1.My question is she lost her original SHS certificate due to flood that affected their house but she manage to get a photocopy at her work place which was on her file. I would like to know will that cause a problem for her when she gets to meet the CO without the original certificate? Thanks in advance.

Normally that would not cause a problem. But perhaps she should use the time to obtain an official replacement copy.

Hello Brit,
First of all thank you for the support you are providing to answer all questions posted here.
I am DV 2018 selectee . During I was filling my DS260 my wife passport will not have 6 months before my case become current. My wife has decided to request a new passport that will have new PP number different from the one which is going to expire.
The change of PP number will affect me during the interview?
Thank you.

No problem. Ideally unlock the DS260 and correct, or you can just take the old and new passports to the interview.

Dear Brit ,
thanks for your online DV support. I have been following your blog since May. I would like to extend my sincere thanks for your comprehensive and quick response to all questions asked on your blog.
Brit I need your help to the question -Have you ever served in the military?
in our Case , Eritrea, it is a must to serve national service. which starts with elementary military training with 3 to 6 month. then return back to school to complete our 12th grade and take National Exam. if you manage to score marks enough to join colleges then continue your higher education.
I have joined and earned my college degree and graduated. once you graduate you have to complete your nation service in the form of civil servant such as teacher .
I need your sincere response on how to approach the question.
